9/11 MLB DFS Winners

A flashback at some of the best performances from the Tuesday slate plus their outlooks for the remainder of the season on the 9/11 MLB DFS review and look ahead.

9/11 MLB DFS Winner: Zack Wheeler

As Jason had him in our Premium Gold Cheatsheet as a value pitcher, Wheeler looked really good at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went seven innings of one run ball on seven hits while adding two walks and seven strikeouts. Wheeler is sitting at 11-7 with a 4.21 ERA on the year.

Outlook for the rest of the season: Wheeler is appoaching career highs in wins and innings pitched. He has also been pitching solid as the Mets have been trying to remain in the second Wild Card hunt. Expect Wheeler to keep on throwing gems like this every fifth day.

9/11 MLB DFS Winner: Marcus Semien

Here is a Premium Gold projections screenshot of the top eight hitters based on salary from Oakland’s lineup on last night’s slate. Marcus Semien was batting leadoff against the Houston Astros and had a solid game before being replaced, going 3-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI.

Outlook for the rest of the season: Marcus Semien has been great this season on both sides of the plate. He is slugging .688 in his last 15 games and producing while Oakland is holding onto the second Wild Card spot with Cleveland is 0.5 games back of them. Semien seems to be thriving while playing for playoff chances, so expect more of this from him.

9/11 MLB DFS Winner: Brett Gardner

Another screenshot of the top hitters, this time of the New York Yankees, who were facing off against the Detroit Tigers. Brett Gardner had a huge day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with both hits being home runs and three RBI.

Outlook for the rest of the season: At age 36, Gardner has set a new career high in homers with 23 so far this season. With the way manager Aaron Boone has rested his players throughout the season, Gardner has not hit a wall like he had in previous seasons around this time. Expect him to get a handful of days off as the Yankees care more about health at this stage, but Gardner will still be a solid hitter the rest of the way.

9/11 MLB DFS Winner: Oakland Athletics Offense

The Oakland Athletics bounced back last night and looked like they were the Raiders in their game against the Houston Astros. The team combined to score 21 runs on 25 hits. In addition to Marcus Semien, who was talked about earlier, Khris Davis went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI.

Outlook for the rest of the season: This game meant a lot more to Oakland than it did for Houston. The Athletics are in a three-team race for the two Wild Card spots. The Athletics are relatively healthy and are a top offense in the league.

Stacks

Houston Astros

The Astros face Yusei Kikuchi (L) who has a 5.36 ERA and seems to be losing some control lately. In his last two starts he has only struck out two in nine innings. He has faced the Astros twice this season and given up a total of nine runs while not getting past the fifth inning in either contest. The Astros look to be in a prime MLB DFS spot to get to Kikuchi early again tonight. Statistacally the best bats are Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel. I break down each of my favorite bats below.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves take on the Washington Nationals and Austin Voth tonight. The Nats are not comfortable extending Voth and has already said he is not going past the fifth inning (if he makes it there). Then the Braves get to go against the Nationals bullpen for the next four innings. The Braves are hot again, winning 16 of their last 18, and I don’t see that slowing down tonight. Best MLB DFS bats are Freddie Freeman, Josh Donaldson, Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies.

Oakland A’s

Oakland really should give Zimmerman a lot of trouble tonight. They truly do have elite bats. Zimmerman has a 6.03 ERA. While he has been serviceable lately, by only giving two runs in each of his last three contests, he can also implode. I am really like what I am seeing from the A’s bats lately and if they roll out the right lineup, in the right order, then there should be fireworks. Oakland is trying to hang in this playoff hunt. Give me Mark Cahna, Matt Olsen, Matt Chapman, Marcus Semien and Jurickson Profar for MLB DFS.

L.A. Dodgers

Tonight’s MLB DFS theme is stacking hot bats vs below average pitchers. The elite Dodgers get to face Tyler Beede after a disappointing loss Friday night. Beede has a 5.61 ERA and has given up at least one run in 19 of his 20 starts. The Dodgers get some redemption tonight and lay it on thick in what appears to be greatMLB DFS weather in Southern California. Joe Pederson, Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy and the Fresh Prince.

Honorable Mention: Mets

Catcher: Will Smith ($3,000 FD) has 10 homers since getting called up in the bigs and bats .456 ISO/.439 vs righties (like Tyler Beede) this season. Last night Will Smith struck out to another Giants reliever named Will Smith with stranding a man on in the ninth and ending the game for the Dodgers by being down one run. Tonight he gets his redemption and makes Uncle Phil proud.

Catcher Pivot: Tyler Flowers

First Base: Freddie Freeman ($3,900 FD) is in a fantastic MLB DFS spot. He hits to a .302 ISO/.432 wOBA this year with 30 home runs. He bats vs Austin Voth, in what will be a limited appearance before the Nats bullpen comes in to attempt to limit damage. Freeman hasn’t homered in four games and has let the rest of the Braves to the majority of the damage. Tonight he should pull his weight and hopefully hit one in the Chop House.

First Base Pivot: Pete Alonso; Yuli Gurriel

Second Base: Jose Altuve ($4,200 FD) ranks as the best bat on the Astros for me tonight. He crushes lefties and Kikuchi shouldn’t be much competition for the former MVP. He swings to a .378 ISO/.468 wOBA on the season vs southpaws and has multiple hits in his last two games. When Altuve gets hot, you play him in MLB DFS.

Second Base Pivot: Max Muncy; Ozzie Albies; Jurickson Profar

Third Base: Matt Chapman ($3,800 FD) has 21 homers this season vs right handed pitching. The Oakland core is lethal and if they can get this lineup turning over I expect big things. Chapman hits at a .249 ISO/.418 wOBA. Chapman usually doesn’t put up a goose egg in MLB DFS. I expect him to get on the base a couple times at minimum, but I am playing him because he should be able to get one in the bleachers tonight.

Third Base Pivot: Josh Donaldson (HOT)

Shortstop: Alex Bregman ($4,400 FD) is on a tear right now. He has scored 27.9,13,21.7,18.5, 12.5 and 19.2 FanDuel points in his last six contests. He is hitting at a .333 ISO/.440 wOBA vs lefties with 11 home runs. Things are not going to get any harder for him once a right handed pitcher comes in after Kikuchi either. Don’t overthink him, play the hot bat in one of my favorite MLB DFS stacks.

Shortstop Pivots: Marcus Semien; Ahmed Rosario

Outfield: Yordan Alvarez ($4,200 FD) is another Astro I love. With the second most home runs on the team vs lefties Alvarez will be making my main lineup. He swings to a .350 ISO/ .411 wOBA and will be in the sweet spot of the Houston lineup. He will have the opportunity to get some RBIs as well and have the back of the Astros lineup push him around the bases. Very safe.

Outfield: Cody Bellinger ($4,600 FD) is the most expensive outfielder today but has a fantastic matchup vs Tyler Beede. I will do my best to get him in, and with some cheaper pitching options today, I think it is doable. He swings to a .343 ISO/.441 wOBA this season and is of course always a home run threat. You need that from him tonight if you pay up. Joc Pederson is a great play as well. I rank them 1A and 1B on the Dodgers.

Outfield: Mark Canha ($3,400 FD) The A’s are priced pretty good today for what I expect them to do vs Jordan Zimmerman. The core of this lineup all has the chance to go deep honestly but Canha statistically has the best shot. He hits to a .274 ISO/.418 wOBA with 17 homers on the season vs righties. Get him in your Oakland MLB DFS stacks.

Outfield Pivots: Ronald Acuna, Ramon Laureano, Matt Joyce

MLB Stacks: Winning Edge for September 1

This report will provide recommended DFS stack options for today’s eight-game main slate (10 games on DK). I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

Teams with Highest IRT

MLB Stack: New York Yankees

vs. LHP Sean Manaea (COL): 6.00 Runs

Sean Manaea is back for his first start in the show since having surgery for a small tear in his shoulder. He doesn’t look to be on a pitch count, he threw seven scoreless innings while only allowing two hits in triple-A Las Vegas on Augugst 23rd. He comes into Yankee Stadium sporting a lofty .289 wOBA, .398 OBP, and .275 OBP against righties in 2018. If he were on a pitch count I would be more into the Yankees. Manaea had a good 2018 campaign and he is coming off eight days of rest. He also showed us in his latest minor league game he can pitch without restriction. The Yankees are slashing to a massive .434 wOBA, .325 ISO, and 175 WRC+ to lefties over the last month.

Preferred Stack:DJ LeMahieu ($4200 FD|$5100 DK), Aaron Judge ($4400 FD|$5200 DK), Gleyber Torres ($4000 FD|$4800 DK), and Gary Sanchez ($4000 FD|$4600 DK).

MLB Stack: Houston Astros

vs. RHP Wilmer Font (TOR): 5.90 Runs

The Astros continue to ride their strong hitting averages, slashing to a .402 wOBA, .250 ISO, and 158 WRC+ recently against righties. Wilmer Font maintains a 1.76 ERA in the month of August (15.1 IP). He does tend to struggle to left handed batting (.364 wOBA, .529 SLG). I’m not to crazy about any of the righties other than George Springer and Yuli Gurriel. The core lefties (Brantley, Springer) are my top plays in this lineup.

Preferred Stack: George Springer ($4200 FD|$5400 DK), Michael Brantley ($4000 FD|$4900 DK), Yordan Alvarez ($4100 FD|$5700 DK), and Yuli Gurriel ($3700 FD|$5000 DK).

MLB Stack: Minnesota Twins

vs. RHP Reynaldo Lopez (CWS): 5.75 Runs

I am really loving the Twins again right now. Spencer Turnbull does just enough to escape it seems. He is also sitting in front of one of the worst bullpens in baseball. The Twins have been surging against righties the last few weeks, boasting a .361 wOBA, .212 ISO, and .352 BABIP. This is an easy tournament play that may go overlooked and underplayed.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks and Stacks: Bombs Over the Bronx

For the record, I go into Texas high school football mode tonight, but since Friday Night Lights doesn’t make me (or you) copious amounts of the long green, then the 8/30 DFS Hitting Picks is a nice consolation.

All but one game is played in the lights and there’s plenty of nifty stack plays awaiting.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – Catcher

Jorge Alfaro, MIA at WAS

DK ($3,700), FD ($2,700)

Sometime in the past week, Alfaro tapped into his inner Joe Mauer, circa 2009. As a result, he’s ripped off five straight multi-hit games and has averaged better than 27 FanDuel points in that span. Alfaro homered in three straight games this week, helping to elevate his HR/BB% to 28% along with a fast-rising 43.8% line drive rate.

With an OPS over 1.100 over the past two weeks, I think Alfaro continues his hitting tear on the road against Nats hurler Anibal Sanchez, who has pitched well of late but has struggled when his line drive rate (24%) looks a lot less like his 2018 total (18%).

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – First Baseman

Mark Canha, OAK at NYY

DK ($5,300), FD ($3,400)

This won’t be the last time this game is mentioned. Canha has been a bargain banger, recording hits in 10 of his last 11 with four homers and 12 RBI. He’s been a blessing for FanDuel users, having recorded four games of at least 24.70 points during the same span. Canha walks at a 13.3% rate, somewhat understandable considering the amount of lumber in the A’s offense. His .271 Isolated Power is almost even with his .277 batting average.

A weekend at Yankee Stadium awaits Canha, who has a 23.2% HR/FB% and 42.7% fly ball rate and faces CC Sabathia. The Yankees starter has allowed right-handed hitters to tag him for 19 homers and a .287/.343/.543 (.892 OPS). Indeed, a solid 8/28 DFS Hitting and Stacks play.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – Second Baseman

Jose Altuve, HOU at TOR

DK ($5,100), FD ($4,200)

In 161 fewer at-bats from last season, Altuve has already equaled his career-best with 24 homers. That number could be eclipsed tonight as Altuve and the Astros head up north for a weekend set against the Blue Jays. His Isolated Power (.251) is .116 better than last year as he’s exchanged a career-high 39.4% hard contact rate and a slight bump in fly ball rate (30.7%) while watching his line drive rate dip to 18.3%.

What’s insane is that Altuve went .321/.384/.634 (1.018 OPS) with eight homers, 19 RBI and 32 runs scored this month and may not have been the best player in his lineup. Ponder that one for a second.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – Shortstop

Francisco Lindor, CLE at TB

DK ($4,800), FD ($4,500)

Lindor launched his fourth homer in his last six games during Thursday’s win over the Tigers and remains worth the price to add to any 8/30 DFS Hitting Picks lineup. He’s put up at least 15.50 FanDuel points in five of his last six games and has produced an OPS over 1.200 in the past week.

If you look at his hard contact rate, you’ll see it’s increased with each passing season, going from 25.5% in his rookie season in 2015 to his current 43.7%. While his Isolated Power has dipped to “just” .231, Lindor’s second half run has been fueled by an increased BABIP that has gone from .279 in 2018 to .313 this season.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – Third Baseman

Nolan Arenado, COL vs. PIT

DK ($5,700), FD ($4,700)

Including Thursday night’s effort against the Pirates, six of Arenado’s last 13 hits have been of the extra base persuasion, making him platinum-locked as a 8/30 DFS Hitting Picks member. When is it a bad thing to see a hitter of Arenado’s caliber delivering a 44.1% fly ball rate in Coors Field, where he also has an OPS over 1.000? I’ll wait.

Even with a slight dip in hard contact rate (41.6% compared to last season’s 42.9%) and HR/FB% (17.8%, 20.7% in 2018), Arenado at home against a pitcher (Dario Agrazal) who has a 1.84 HR/9 rate and 43.2% fly ball rate is money.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – Outfielder

Aaron Judge, NYY vs. OAK

DK ($5,300), FD ($4,500)

A week ago, Judge had just two homers in the month of August to go along with an OPS that barely hovered over .700. Five homers and 1.485 OPS later, Judge comes into tonight’s game with a .921 OPS this month with 15 of his 28 hits going for extra bases. The recent tear has pushed Judge’s Isolated Power to .236, putting him on par with last year’s .249. He’s dirty after dark, as Judge sports a .934 OPS in night games.

Judge is putting together a solid 29.6% line drive rate, yet isn’t getting enough lift (29% fly ball rate) to justify a vicious 55.4% hard contact rate. Take him into the lineup as Judge’s 1.179 OPS against lefties won’t be good news for A’s starter Brett Anderson, who has a lifetime 6.86 ERA against the Yankees in eight career starts.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – Outfielder

Sam Hillard, COL vs. PIT

DK ($4,000), FD ($2,900)

(Yet) another rookie who has debuted swinging like a first-ballot Hall of Famer, Hillard has wallopped a pair of homers among his first three big league hits. In only eight at-bats, Hillard has given DFSers a sample of his work in Triple-A, where he hammered 35 homers. He also stole 22 bases en route to producing a freakish 1.569 OPS.

Hilliard had a 41% fly ball rate and a 41.5% pull rate in the minors this season, traits that should allow him to thrive in Coors Field against hapless Pirates pitchers this weekend, including the aforementioned Agrazal. If he’s in the lineup, Hillard is a bargain.

8/30 DFS Hitting Picks – Outfielder

Aristides Aquino, CIN at STL

DK ($4,900), FD ($4,100)

Aquino has shook off a brief slump and has returned to mauling hurlers at a historic pace. He comes to the Gateway to the West with three homers and an 1.173 OPS in the past week, continuing a month that has seen Aquino go .330/.393/.804 (1.197 OPS). As far as first months go, Aquino has made a hell of an impression.

Aquino came into the majors with a .337 Isolated Power in Triple-A, only to destroy that mark, raising it to .474. His hard contact rate has come down to 38.9%. However, his fly ball rate is a strong 47.2% and you certainly live with his 23.4% strikeout rate. Something will give between him and Cards hurler Dakota Hudson. Bet on the Red.

8/30 DFS Hitting Stacks

8/30 Hitting Stack of the Day: New York Yankees: Build with Judge as the foundation and add Gleyber Torres ($4,900 DK) and Gary Sanchez ($4,700 DK). Attempting to go all-in toward a hard out Yankees stack will cost you when it comes to pitching, so look after Luke Voit ($5,100 DK) or D.J. LeMahieu ($5,300 DK)

8/30 Hitting Stack Runner-Up: Oakland A’s: Wheel out the right-handed bats, starting with Canha, who is enough of a bargain to allow you to add Matt Chapman ($4,700 DK). Josh Phegley ($3,800 DK) has a homer and 1.182 OPS in 11 at-bats against Sabathia. Even in a lefty-lefty scenario, Matt Olson ($4,600 DK) is a good play.

8/30 Hitting Stack to Consider: Pittsburgh Pirates: Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela has a 6.80 ERA at Coors Field and allows hitters to batter him to the tune of a .310 batting average. Bryan Reynolds ($5,600 DK) is a good start, but Kevin Newman ($5,200 DK), Collin Moran ($4,600 DK), Melky Cabrera ($3,900 DK) and Josh Bell ($5,700) are strong options.

MLB Fantasy Stacks for Main Slate: Winning Edge for July 27

This report will provide recommended DFS stack options for today’s 10-game main slate. I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

MLB Fantasy Stack: Minnesota Twins

vs. RHP Ivan Nova (CWS): 6.00 Runs

**Moderate Risk

I know the Twins let a lot of us down last night. I also know Nova has put on some off the wall performances that may cause others to rethink whether or not they want to go here tonight. I have no problems going back here, we all know how bad Ivan Nova can be. Nova carries a 5.49 ERA, 5.34 FIP, and 5.03 SIERA. He has allowed batters to slash to a .359 wOBA, .526 SLG, and .340 OBP at home this season. When pitching at home, Nova’s ERA goes from a 5.12 road average to 6.02. He has allowed 33 earned runs and 11 home runs over 49.1 innings pitched at home. The Twins continue to hit well, slashing to a .382 wOBA, .252 ISO, and 139 WRC+. I hate to use such a small sample, but four batters in the Twins lineup have an OPS of 1.000 or greater against Nova this season.

MLB Fantasy Stack: Cleveland Indians

vs. RHP Glenn Sparkman (KCR): 5.70 Runs

**High Risk

Cleveland Indians have slumped off a bit after going on a heater for a few weeks. They look to have returned to form last night, scoring eight earned runs. Sparkman carries a 4.67 ERA, 5.64 FIP, and 5.47 SIERA. He has the worst contact % on the slate at 84.7. He is only inducing a 7.4% swinging strike rate. The only downside to a Cleveland stack today is Sparkman’s home/road splits. Compared to his atrocious road averages, he is absolutely stellar at home. He carries a 1.76 ERA and allows batters to slash a measly .256 wOBA, .328 SLG, and .265 OBP. He has only allowed nine earned runs and four home runs over 40 innings pitched. With these kind of splits at home I can definitely see a hedge with Sparkman as well if you want to take a shot in tournaments. The Indians are slashing to a .337 wOBA, .187 ISO, and 106 WRC+ over the last month.

MLB Fantasy Stack: Oakland Athletics

vs. RHP Adrian Sampson (TEX): 5.30 Runs

**Low Risk

Adrian Sampson has come back down to earth recently, getting tagged for five or more runs in his last two starts. He carries a 5.19 ERA, 5.00 FIP, and 4.63 SIERA on the year. Sampson is allowing 1.76 HR/9 and a 48% hard contact rate. He is allowing 80% contact and struggles mightily to right handed batters. They are slashing to a .388 wOBA, .581 SLG, and .360 OBP. Sampson has allowed 32 earned runs and 13 home runs over 55.1 innings pitched to righties. The Athletics are slashing to a .339 wOBA, .217 ISO, and 115 WRC+ over the last month. Sampson throws a ton of sinker (55% usage) and slider (31% usage). Batters 1-4 in this projected Athletics lineup are all hitting .200 ISO or better against Sampson’s two most frequently used pitches.

Preferred Plays: Mark Canha ($2800 FD|$4300 DK), Ramon Laureano ($3100 FD|$4700 DK), Matt Olson ($3700 FD|$4500 DK), and Marcus Semien($3200 FD|$4400 DK).

MLB Fantasy Stack: New York Mets

DFS Stacks for Main Slate: Winning Edge for July 12

Welcome back everyone! I know we have a few “new” guys on the Win Daily staff, as well as a few subscribers. I just wanted to welcome all of you. This report will provide recommended DFS stacks for today’s 13-game main slate.

New York Yankees

vs. RHP Aaron Sanchez (TOR): 7.10 Runs

The Yankees lost two games in a row going into the All-Star break and had only lost two in their previous 18. They are clearly the best team in baseball right now, boasting a 6.5 game lead on the Rays and 9.0 on the Red Sox. We all know how tricky the AL East can be after the break. These teams can close the gap rather quickly given their talents. Look for the Yankees to keep their foot on the gas and truck their way into the post season. Aaron Sanchez carries a 6.16 ERA, 5.56 FIP, and 5.57 SIERA into tonight’s game. His splits are identical, holding .a 361 wOBA, .391 OBP, and .451 OBP on the year. Coming out of the break, The Yankees are slashing to a .364 wOBA, .247 ISO, and 126 WRC+. They are hitting well above their season averages.

Los Angeles Angels

vs. RHP Mike Leake (SEA): 5.60 Runs

Mike Leake hasn’t been awful this season, carrying a 4.32 ERA, 4.89 FIP, and 4.55 SIERA into tonight’s game. These +4.00 ERA stat lines seem more of the norm this season with the elevated scoring. Leake has identical splits, holding a .330 wOBA, .303 OBP, and .493 SLG through 114. innings pitched. He has the displeasure of facing an Angels team who hold the lowest strikeout rate in MLB. They average 6.87 strikeouts per game on the year. The Angels are slashing .to a 321 wOBA, .191 ISO, and .458 SLG to right handed pitching over a two week span coming out of the break.

Preferred DFS Stacks Build: Mike Trout ($4700 FD|$5300 DK), Shohei Ohtani ($3900 FD|$4800 DK), and Justin Upton ($3500 FD|$3800 DK).

Milwaukee Brewers

vs. RHP Shaun Anderson (SFG): 5.60 Runs

Shaun Anderson heads into tonight’s matchup holding a 4.23 ERA, 4.38 FIP, and 5.28 SIERA through 55 innings pitched. He has identical splits with a .320 wOBA, .331 OBP, and .417 SLG. I’m really hoping for a healthy Christian Yelich here tonight as he has been experiencing some lower back discomfort on and off this season. The Brewers come out of the break slashing to a .297 wOBA, .223 ISO, and .423 SLG to right handed pitching. The Brewers are only a half game back on the Cubs, who actively seem to be trying to hand the Brewers the division, but they have been having issues of their own. An unhealthy Yelich certainly does not give this lineup a ton of appeal. Look for the Brewers to get it together coming off the break.

Oakland A’s vs. RHP Ivan Nova (CHW): 5.60 Runs

Stack Report for Main Slate: Winning Edge for July 6

This report will provide stacks that I recommend for today’s 7 game main slate. I’ve also included my favorite one-offs and value plays.

Houston Astros Stack

vs. LHP Andrew Heaney (LAA): 5.70 Runs

This is a play you’re not going to be able to get away from tonight. Andrew Heaney carries a 5.40 ERA, 5.39 FIP, and 4.20 SIERA through 36.2 innings pitched. Through 27 innings pitched, right handed batters are slashing .319 wOBA, .449 SLG, and to a .304 OBP against Heaney. The Astros have been hitting very well recently, slashing .374 wOBA, .204 ISO, and a .516 SLG. Smaller slate tonight so ownership will be a lot more concentrated on the Astros but it is good chalk and I’m perfectly fine with eating it.

Preferred Stack: (in order of preference) Jose Altuve $3700 FD|$4200 DK, Alex Bregman $4300 FD|$5000 DK, Yordan Alvarez $4100 FD|$4800 DK, Yuli Gurriel $3400|$4400, and Robinson Chirinos $3100 FD|$3800 DK. George Springer ($4400 FD|$5400 DK) is my last choice for higher priced guys but if you’re playing multiple lines I would definitely have exposure.

New York Mets Stack

vs. RHP Jake Arrieta (PHI): 5.00 Runs

I’ve eagerly awaited a solid left handed power hitting team to go against Jake Arrieta since those string of rainouts in Washington a few weeks back. He carries 4.43 ERA, 5.15 FIP, and a 4.85 SIERA into tonight’s game. He is absolutely terrible to left handed batters. They are slashing .383 wOBA, .535 SLG, and to a .386 OBP through 43.0 innings pitched. He has surrendered 27 earned runs and 11 home runs over that same span. The Mets are hitting to a tune of .313 wOBA, .181 ISO, and 101 WRC+ over the last two weeks, slightly above their season averages. Be weary of the weather here tonight.

Oakland Athletics Stack

vs. LHP Marco Gonzales (SEA): 5.15 Runs

Marco Gonzales carries a 4.39 ERA, 4.11 FIP, and 5.14 SIERA into tonight’s game. He has fairly identical splits with a .324 wOBA, .444 SLG, and .327 OBP through 78.1 innings pitched against right handed batters. Most should be focused on that Astros stack and probably spending down for some cheap Cardinals so we have a chance to catch the A’s at low ownership. I didn’t list them, but I know they let down a lot of people last night. The A’s are slashing to a .349 wOBA, .223 ISO, and .499 SLG vs. left handed pitching this season. The team as a whole has been in a bit of a hitting slump over the last two weeks, slashing to a .246 wOBA, .112 ISO, and .303 SLG in that time span. I always feel like Oakland is pretty risky, but I’ll go there in GPPs tonight.

DFS Winning Edge for 7/4: Early Only Stack Report

This report will provide stacks that I recommend for today’s 4 game early only slate on FD and 6 game slate on DK. I’ve also included my favorite one offs and value plays.

Minnesota Twins

vs. RHP Tanner Anderson (OAK)

Implied Run Total: 5.10 Runs

Tanner Anderson has a small sample size coming into today’s matchup (17.2 IP) but has struggled nonetheless. Anderson carries a 7.13 ERA, 5.30 FIP, and 4.17 SIERA. He has struggled more so to left handed batters, carrying a .473 wOBA, .730 SLG, and .439 OBP through 7.1 IP. The Twins are currently hitting below their season averages, slashing .295 wOBA, .164 ISO, and 81 WRC+ over the last two weeks. Their season averages sit at .343 wOBA, .232 ISO, and 112 WRC+. Despite the hitting slump for this Twins team, I will take the matchup and run with it, even with a limited sample size and inflated stats from Tanner’s last start against the Angels.

Pittsburgh Pirates

vs. LHP Jose Quintana (CHC)

Implied Run Total: 4.65 Runs

Jose Quintana comes into today’s matchup carrying a 4.21 ERA, 4.13 FIP, and 4.68 SIERA through 94 IP. He tends to struggle more to right handed batters. They carry a .325 wOBA, .442 SLG, and .325 OBP against Quintana through 69.2 IP. The Pirates are hitting slightly above their season averages against left handed pitching, slashing .291 wOBA, .133 ISO, and 84 WRC+. Tougher matchup for Pittsburgh against Quintana, who has been fairly dominant to lefties. Most of the Pirates power lies in their left handed batters, but I’m confident they can knock Quintana around a bit this afternoon.

Preferred Stack: Josh Bell $4600 FD|$5600 DK, Starling Marte $3900 FD|$5100 DK, Bryan Reynolds $3400 FD|$4800 DK, and Jose Osuna $2800 FD|$4800 DK.

DFS Hitting Stacks 7/2: To Coors or not to Coors?

Well we have a Coors game on the schedule tonight. No MLB DFS stacking article would not be complete without a Coors mention when they play there. One thing we will have to watch is if the grieving Angels decide to play tonight or not. Who can blame them if they do not play tonight?

Stack One to Consider:

Rockies/Astros: I almost automatically lump the Coors game together in this article and in cash games. I chose bats and possibly a DFS stack from a Coors game almost subconsciously. According to ESPN’s park factors Coors has shot up to the top two or three in every major statistical category that they measure. This is common, exactly where Coors should be found in a list of parks.

To Coors or not to Coors? That is the question tonight in my mind as we have a highly touted rookie pitcher from the Astros (Jose Urquidy, $5,500 FD, not available on DK) against a very good Rockies pitcher (German Marquez $7,100 FD, $8,700 DK). Marquez fares much better on the road than he does at home (.314 batting average against at home vs. 201 away, 5.70 home ERA, 3.06 road ERA, nine HRs allowed at home in 53.2 innings, six HRs allowed in 61.2 road innings). How heavy do we stack this Coors game, or do we do use a few bats here and look for smash spots in other places? This is my first stack choice, so there is your answer.

Stack Two to Consider:

Athletics: Here is my sneaky stack for today. I like them because as good as Jake Odorizzi was in April and May, he was as bad in June. After a sparkling 0.94 ERA in May, Odorizzi allowed 11 earned runs over 15 1/3 innings in his past three appearances. He has also allowed four homers over that span, matching his total from his first 13 starts. This is certainly not a top stack, but a sneaky one tonight being in Oakland (a pitcher’s park) and in a late game. At least one guy I want is Khris Davis ($3,200 FD, $3,500 DK) IF he is back in the lineup after dealing with a bruised hand from a hit-by-pitch. For a guy who has led the AL in HRs, those prices are low.

Stack Three to Consider:

White Sox: Another different stack, so just hear me out please. Matthew Boyd has a problem, a big problem. And it is something that “Chicks Dig” according to commercials in the 90s. No, the problem is not steroids or sharing needles wise guy. The problem is the long ball. He has allowed three homers in both of his past two starts. If this problem continues, in a park that is giving up HRs this year (4th best park for HRs according to ESPN), with the wind blowing out, high dewpoints and warm temperatures, then you could take advantage of Boyd’s problem.

Los Angeles Dodgers – Clayton Kershaw (LHP) takes the mound in Colorado tonight. He is sporting a 2.85 ERA, 3.51 FIP, and 3.76 SIERA on the season. Kershaw has identical splits, carrying a .282 wOBA, .269 OBP, and .278 BABIP to both sides. Dodgers batters are slashing .338 wOBA, .209 ISO, and .298 BABIP over the last two weeks. They are hitting close to their season averages.

Pittsburgh Pirates – Jordan Lyles (RHP) on the mound tonight in Milwaukee. Lyles is sporting a 3.64 ERA, 3.67 FIP, and 4.74 SIERA on the season. He has true splits, carrying a .367 wOBA, .500 SLG, and .367 OBP to left handed batters. He has been particularly bad on the road against lefties. Pirates batters are slashing to a respectable .376 wOBA, .226 ISO, and .532 SLG against right handed batters over the last few weeks.

Milwaukee Brewers – Brandon Woodruff (RHP) on the mound for the Brewers tonight. He has a 4.01 ERA, 3.07 FIP, and 3.53 SIERA on the season. Woodruff has true splits, carrying a .335 wOBA, .441 SLG, and .341 OBP against left handed batters this season. Brewers batters are currently slashing to a .315 wOBA, .170 ISO, and have a .402 SLG. They are hitting slightly below their season average over the last two weeks. Jordan Lyles is awful on the road vs. lefties and Milwaukee bats have been a bit pedestrian lately. I think the Brewers crack things open tonight and score some runs.

Seattle Mariners – Yusei Kikuchi (LHP) on the mound in Houston. He carries a 5.11 ERA, 5.55 FIP, and 5.10 SIERA on the season. Kikuchi has fairly similar splits and struggles quite a bit on the road. Kikuchi carries a .361 wOBA, .505 SLG, and .354 OBP against right handed batters. Everyone is waiting for the Astros to really break out again and I think this is a good spot for them to do so. Seattle batters are slashing to a .333 wOBA, .173 ISO, and .441 SLG over the last few weeks. They are hitting close to their season average.

Houston Astros – Justin Verlander (RHP) on the mound tonight at home. He carries a 2.67 ERA, 3.77 FIP, and 3.17 SIERA on the season. Verlander has a flyball rate of 46%, hard contact rate of 39%, and 1.65 HR/9. He has identical splits, carrying a .232 wOBA, .343 SLG, and 1.75 BABIP. Houston batters are hitting well above their season averages recently with a .448 wOBA, .337 ISO, and .647 SLG.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants

Over/Under: 7.5

Implied Run Total – ARI: 4.20

Implied Run Total – SFG: 3.30

Arizona Diamondbacks – Zack Greinke (RHP) takes the mound in San Francisco tonight. He is sporting a 2.91 ERA, 3.45 FIP, and 3.96 SIERA on the season. Greinke has identical splits, allowing a .260 wOBA, .249 OBP, and .252 BABIP to both sides. Greinke gets a ballpark boost and has the clear advantage against a weak SFG offense. Arizona batters are slashing to a .272 wOBA, .127 ISO, and .349 SLG over the last few weeks. They are hitting well below their season averages.

Anderson carries a .295 wOBA .383 SLG, and .304 OBP against him on the road. Oakland batters are slashing to a .371 wOBA, .273 ISO, and .580 SLG to left handed pitching over the last few weeks.

Los Angeles Angels – Tyler Skaggs (LHP) is on the mound for the Angels this evening. He carries a 4.30 ERA, 4.25 FIP, and 4.40 SIERA on the year. Skaggs tends to be hot and cold and the last time he faced the A’s he ended up getting hit around a bit. The A’s lineup is full of right handed power and Skaggs is carrying a .310 wOBA, .407 SLG, and 318 OBP to them on the year. Angels batters are slashing .to a 266 wOBA, .073 ISO, and .305 SLG over the last two weeks, They are hitting well below their season averages over the last two weeks.

St. Louis Cardinals – Dakota Hudson (RHP) takes the mound in San Diego. He has a 3.36 ERA, 4.67 FIP, and 4.72 SIERA on the season. Hudson struggles mightily against left handed batters, carrying a 386 wOBA, .532 SLG, and .396 OBP so far this season. He has a massive ground ball rate of 62% and an extremely low fly ball rate of 17%. Cardinals batters are slashing .283 wOBA, .123 wOBA, and 74 WRC+. They have struggled all season with right handed pitching.

Preferred DFS Plays – Dakota Hudson $8400 FD | $6900 DK.

San Diego Padres – Chris Paddack (RHP) is on the mound at home this evening. He has a 3.18 ERA, 3.99 FIP, and 3.87 SIERA this season. Paddack has a 45% hard contact rate and 40% fly ball rate. He has identical splits, carrying a .261 wOBA, .370 SLG, and .257 OBP against both sides this season. The Cardinals have struggled a ton against righties as of late and Paddack certainly has the arm talent to get the QS and win against this porous Cardinals lineup. The only concern I have is Paddack is not an innings eater, averaging four or five IP per game. Padres batters are slashing to a .358 wOBA, .214 ISO, and .493 SLG against right handed pitching over the last two weeks. They are hitting well above their season averages.
