NFL Preseason DFS

It is so close ladies and gentlemen! In just a couple of short weeks, we are all going to be sweating and overanalyzing every small detail in preparation for week one. Now that we are getting into dress rehearsal mode we can get ourselves a small taste of what we will be doing until February. Starters are getting stretched out and we can play some of these preseason slates with a little bit of certainty. We have already gotten some information regarding playing time so we do not have to guess as much for this Win Daily Sports: Preseason DFS Breakdown 8.22. But you still need to be sure to be in discord to get all of the updated information leading up to the first kick.

Strategy:

We have a couple of things going for us today. First, we have multiple games so the wild swings we get on showdown slates will not necessarily be there. Second, and more importantly, with the shortened preseason weeks two and three will give us more starters playing more reps to get ready for week one. So in this particular article you will see plenty of names you recognize but you can also get a little crazy if you are so inclined if you want to take the risk that comes with an unknown player playing the entire second half against future practice squad players.

**All playing time info is subject to change so be on discord before kickoff**

Since we are going into week two you can take some shots on starters if you feel so inclined as it would be reasonable to assume that they will get a little more work. where they may have gotten a few series at best they “should” play between 1-2 quarters of action.

Win Daily Sports: Preseason DFS Breakdown 8.22

Quarterbacks:

Jimmy Garropallo, 49ers:

It has already been stated that Jimmy Grapes will see a quarter to a quarter and a half in this contest and with Justin Herbert not playing at all this preseason we should be looking at known commodities at QB. Jimmy still has a lot to prove and knows that his replacement is waiting in the wings in the event that he falters. Trey Lance got the lions share of the first team reps in week one so my expectation is that we see the opposite today.

Case Keenum, Browns:

It is looking like we will not see Baker again so you know what that means? That is right. Case Keenum and Kyle Lauletta chucking the ball all over the field against one of the wort secondaries in the NFL. The Browns just look like they are having a little fun if week one is any indication and there is no reason to risk injuring any of their running back depth. They know what they have their already and that is not going to change so let us enjoy the browns doing their best “greatest show on turf” impersonations.

Win Daily Sports: Preseason DFS Breakdown 8.22

Running Backs:

Trey Sermon, 49ers:

In the preseason, volume is key and I think this is the best chance we get when it comes to Trey Sermon in what is always a top-flight run game in San Fran. Trey was a little underwhelming in the stat line and he let the ball hit the turf. But he brings a physical nature that the rest of that RB group does not have and I expect the Niners staff to get him some extra work to make sure he goes into week one with some confidence. Hopefully, we get to see him in some goal-line work. He pushed the pile forward every time he got the ball.

Gary Brightwell, Giants:

Brightwell didn’t play a single snap in week one due to some undisclosed reason but I expect him to do more than makeup for it against the Browns today. He’s been getting all of the first-team special team’s reps and plenty of reps at RB this week so look for him to get his chance to pass Corey Clement in the depth chart. I’m looking at his college film and it does not match the metrics. He graded badly but he looks quick with good hands and above-average vision. He’s the unknown commodity that I am going to hopefully get some ownership separation with (I do not expect anyone to be on him).

Wide Receivers:

Donovan Peoples-Jones, Browns:

One thing that surprised me a little from week one is just how much the Browns threw the ball. Between Case Keenum and Kyle Lauletta the Browns attempted 44 passes. With Beckham and Landry likely limited or out and the Giants’ clear weakness defensively coming from the secondary Donovan is in line for a potentially big day.

Brandon Aiyuk, 49ers:

Keep an ear to the ground on this one. If we can get confirmation that he will see the same reps Garoppolo sees today I am going to pair the two in most of my lineups. Deebo Samuel is dealing with a glute injury already so I do not expect Shanahan to risk further injury in a preseason game. That makes Brandon the primary option for the Niners. Add in the countless number of ways he gets used in the running and passing game the dynamic playmaker could easily give us a full game of production in a quarter and a half of work.

Tight Ends:

*Kyle Shanahan has stated that starters will play a quarter/quarter and a half. That puts George Kittle firmly in place as an option but a word of caution. Kittle has a clear history of injuries and they need him healthy going into week one so understand that with George there is always a chance they change their minds at the last minute*

Browns Tight Ends:

I am just lumping them all into one. I’m waiting to figure out who gets the playing time today but the Browns by their very nature (even though they did not in week one) as a run-first team run a lot of two tight end sets (12 personnel). While I think they are going to continue the trend of being pass-happy this week they will still run out of the same formations to get the reps in. If I were to be forced to make a choice I would look to Harrison Bryant as they are working on getting him reps to improve his blocking this year as he was way too small to be used in anything but passing down situations in 2020. If Mayfield is limited or they sit him I like it all the more. It looks like the Browns are just gonna throw it around a bunch so it is a perfect fit. But, if you have a lean for Hooper or Njoku by all means have at it.

It is finally time folks and I hope you got some good info out of our Win Daily Sports: Preseason DFS Breakdown 8.22. It is time to start digging into DFS and make sure that we have our processes in place for a successful 2021 NFL campaign. Quarterbacks

QB – NYG – Daniel Jones – He is going to be the starter in the Giants’ final preseason game against the Patriots. Jones has been excellent throughout the preseason leading the NFL in yards per attempt (12.3), third in completion percentage (83.3%), second in quarterback rating (140.1), and 11th in passing yards.

https://twitter.com/RVacchianoSNY/status/1166366249724592128

QB – NE – Jarrett Stidham – Last year in the fourth game of the preseason former Patriots quarterback Danny Etling played the entire game as the quarterback. We should expect the same from Stidham in Week 4 of the preseason in 2019. Stidham played the majority of Week 3 of the preseason. Throughout the preseason Stidham ranks third in passing yards (506), 12th in yards per pass attempt (8.2), fourth in total dropbacks (73), seventh in pass attempts (62), fourth in pass completions (43), and first in first downs (31).

QB – KC – Kyle Shurmur – The Chiefs will be resting their starters as well and locked in backup quarterback Chad Henne is out with an injury. Andy Reid has already stated that newly signed quarterback Matt Moore will not play, so it will be a split between rookie Kyle Shurmur and second-year player Chase Litton. After their performances in the 49ers game, Shurmur is trending upward — and Litton is heading in the wrong direction.

https://twitter.com/mattderrick/status/1166544285103206401

QB – DEN – Kevin Hogan – Thursday’s game against the Cardinals will feature Kevin Hogan and Brett Rypien trying to win the backup job. Hogan has been significantly better than Rypien so far throughout the preseason so he is the better play of the two Denver quarterbacks.

https://twitter.com/ZacStevensBSN/status/1166533013158674432

Running Backs

RB – CLE – D’Ernest Johnson – Since the start of the second preseason game, Johnson has slowly been more involved in the Browns’ offense. He has six receptions on six targets to go along with 15 carries for 63 yards. His 20 total carries lead the Browns by a large margin and with the Browns resting their starters, Johnson should be the primary back on Thursday. He’s also impressed coach Freddie Kitchens and run game coordinator/running backs coach Stump Mitchell with his ability to pass protect. From Ohio.com: “He can do everything,” Mitchell said. “D’Ernest has the ability to be an all-down back in this league.” When asked the player who has grown most during training camp, Mitchell picked Johnson.

RB – DET – Mark Thompson – With the depth chart topped by Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson, and rookie Ty Johnson look for Mark Thompson to shoulder the load as the fourth running back on the roster. He has rushed 17 times for a team-high 80 yards and two touchdowns in the first three preseason games. With the release of Zach Zenner, the volume should be in Thompson’s wheelhouse.

https://twitter.com/FieldYates/status/1166449102432821249

RB – DEN – Devontae Jackson – There’s a chance that Khalfani Muhammad misses the last preseason game, leaving the running back workshare to be divided by Devontae Jackson and David Williams. Jackson leads the team in carries (22) and is third among running backs in targets (7) and receptions (4).

https://twitter.com/MikeKlis/status/1166445091847888896

Wide Receivers

https://twitter.com/zkeefer/status/1166384263828246529

WR – NE – Jakobi Meyers – Via Eric J Adler on Patriots.com, if Meyers plays in the final preseason game he is good for another five-catch performance. Meyers has had at least six receptions in his first three preseason games and leads the NFL in total targets (26), receiving yards (225), and first down receptions (13).

WR – CLE – Braxton Miller – Baker Mayfield and the starters will be out for the Browns come their Week 4 NFL Preseason game against the Lions. Miller signed with the Browns recently and also just released Jaelen Strong. Strong’s departure creates a large space in the receiver room as he led the team in routes run throughout the preseason. So with Strong gone and Freddie Kitchens eager to watch Braxton Miller vs. the Lions, that makes him a preseason DFS target; especially noting they want to put him positions to make plays. “He’s picking up the offense,’’ said Kitchens. “That tells you a little bit about his learning ability. We’ll see if we can put him in some positions to make some plays Thursday night. He’s doing well, though.”

https://twitter.com/MaryKayCabot/status/1166523248391139328

WR – DEN – River Cracraft – When in doubt in NFL Preseason DFS you sometimes need to follow the coachspeak. He is definitely a deep dive to target in GPPs with only three targets throughout the preseason. However, two of those three targets came during last week’s contest. His ability as a punt-returner could ultimately push him to make the final 53-man roster.

https://twitter.com/TroyRenck/status/1166417691726319616

WR – MIA – Preston Williams – Williams’ best game during the preseason came in Week 1 without Ryan Fitzpatrick dominating the snaps. With Fitzmaguc out for Week 4, look for Rosen to push the ball down to Williams more frequently. In Week 1 Williams had four receptions for 97 yards. Over the past two weeks where Fitzpatrick has led the team in pass attempts, Williams has one reception on seven targets. Third-stringer Jake Rudock is also expected to see significant time at quarterback.

Tight Ends

TE – NE – Ryan Izzo – Made the surprise start with the first-team offense in Week 3 of the preseason. With Matt Lacosse still looking to get ready for Week 1 and Ben Watson/Lance Kendricks having suspensions looming Izzo is an intriguing option. Led the team at tight end in routes run (13) in Week 3 of the preseason.

TE – GB – Robert Tonyan – Tonyan has run the second-most routes (52) throughout the preseason on the Packers of all positions. He ranks fourth in the NFL at the tight end position in total routes run. Jimmy Graham has been out with a finger injury so Tonyan has made the most with more playing time. Last week against the Raiders, Tonyan’s 27 routes run were tied for the most by all tight ends in Week 3.

Cannot get enough of NFL Preseason DFS? We have six games coming up on Thursday, making it the perfect night for locking in some lineups for DFS preseason on DraftKings and FanDuel. For this slate, I am going to go through each game for Thursday night. The Thursday night games include NYG @ CIN, BAL @ PHI, WAS @ ATL, CAR @ NE, GB @ OAK, and JAX @ MIA.

NYG @ CIN

Giants

Giants’ coach Pat Shurmur has been vocal on not playing his starters in the preseason. Eli Manning has played just two series in two games thus far. It looks to be the Daniel Jones show again in Week 3. All signs indicate Jones should see a ton of playing time after an overall impressive performance throughout the preseason. Do not expect Jones to be necessarily chucking the ball up and down the field, but rather the Giants putting him in a position to succeed. Using short routes to the backs and tight ends. T.J. Jones has led the receiver group in targets (10), touchdowns (2), and ranks second in the NFL through the preseason in yards/route run (3.47) on a minimum of 10 targets. Jon Hilliman is interesting at running back after receiving 16 rushing attempts in Week 2, which was second-most in the NFL last week.

Bengals

The Bengals defense has allowed 469 passing yards over the past two weeks with a 105.4 passer rating. Expect to see a ton of running back work from Rodney Anderson. Trayveon Williams has been lost to injury, and because of that Anderson expects to finally be unleashed against the Giants. The Giants have allowed 103 rushing yards over the past two weeks. Receiver John Ross is unlikely to play, while Ryan Finley is strongly making his case to be Andy Dalton’s backup. His three passing touchdowns are tied for the most in the preseason, and in passing yards, he ranks eighth. Damion Willis leads the team in receiving yards (63) and routes run (51) over the preseason.

https://twitter.com/Local12Skinny/status/1164366076630773761

BAL @ PHI

Ravens

Apparently, the Ravens’ offense has been tearing up the Eagles’ defense during the joint practices.

https://twitter.com/jamisonhensley/status/1163912432819015680

Usually, you want to be hesitant to play starters in the preseason game, but using Ravens is the sharp play because the Ravens value winning even in the preseason. They have won 15 straight preseason games. Lamar Jackson and Miles Boykin create a great stack in DFS NFL Preseason. Boykin has 12 targets in the preseason which is twice as much as any other receiver on the Ravens. This game could show us the most we see of the new-look Ravens offense prior to the regular season.

Eagles

There will no be Carson Wentz on Thursday night. With so many injuries at the tight end position, Joshua Perkins needs to be on the radar for preseason DFS. Though he only received two targets last week, he tied the most routes run (19) on the team in Week 2 of the preseason. Josh McCown has looked sharp in the few days since being added to the roster so don’t be surprised to see him get playing time in this NFL preseason game. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside has seen 10 targets throughout the preseason, so he is a receiver to continue to look to in your preseason DFS lineups.

WAS @ ATL

Redskins

Receivers Trey Quinn and Paul Richardson are both out for Thursday along with tight end Jordan Reed. Great chance that running back Derrius Guice plays on Thursday. Along with that coach Jay Gruden has ultimately stated that he is not in a rush to name a starting quarterback. Receiver Darvin Kidsy should continue to see work as he has seen more than twice as many targets (9) than any other receiver.

Falcons

Dan Quinn has ruled out the following guys: Damontae Kazee, Russell Gage, Kaleb McGary, Foye Oluokun and Kendall Sheffield. Tight end Jaeden Graham has been making some noise. Graham led the Falcons in receiving yards against the Jets with four catches for 55 yards. His eight receptions rank second-most on the team behind only receiver Christian Blake during the preseason.

https://twitter.com/jeannathomas/status/1163840715832668161

CAR @ NE

Panthers

Starters are in! Cam Newton and the entire starting lineup is set to play against New England. Head coach wants to play his starters via Panthers.com “I like it just because it’s a measuring stick. Coach (Bill) Belichick, the way his teams play and prepare, they are going to test you,” Rivera said. “It’s an opportunity to truly gauge where we are and what we need to be better at.” Areas of note that Rivera highlighted: The fourth, fifth and sixth wide receiver. “What’s the combination of guys we’re going to go into games with?” Rivera said. And the rookie running backs. “We’ve really got to see Jordan Scarlett and Elijah Holyfield a lot. We have to see what those guys are made of and if they have the ability to help us.”

https://twitter.com/DNewtonespn/status/1163856798757134339

Patriots

It has not yet been confirmed whether or not Tom Brady will play in the NFL Preseason game in Week 3. However, if history is any indicator Brady will play. For more than a decade, the quarterback has played in the preseason dress rehearsal. At wide receiver Josh Gordon, Julian Edelman, and Demaryius Thomas are unlikely to play. Question marks also surround N’Keal Harry, Maurice Harris, and Phillip Dorsett, who are dealing with injuries that sidelined them for last Saturday’s matchup with the Tennessee Titans. So again firing up preseason standout Jakobi Meyers continues to be a strong buy along with Braxton Berrios. At the tight end, there won’t be Matt LaCosse or Stephen Anderson, so snaps will be divided among Ryan Izzo, Lance Kendricks, and Eric Saubert. Ben Watson is most likely to get the start on Thursday night with his 4-week suspension looming.

GB @ OAK

Packers

Oh, Canada! The Green Bay starters are projected to play in the first quarter according to Matt LeFleur. Still, the playing time is a question mark making them difficult to trust in this NFL Preseason matchup. The team will more than likely lean on caution in terms of starters playing long into Thursday night. Depth wide receiver Allen Lazard leads the team in targets (7) and yards per route run (4.29) on the Packers through the first two weeks. This is Aaron Rodgers on Lazard: “I think he’s had a really nice camp. He’s made a bunch of plays,” Rodgers said on Monday. “He’s always showing up on special teams, he does things the right way in practice. I think he’s put himself in a position to legitimately be playing for all 32 teams.”

Aaron Jones should also play, but I would expect a healthy dose of Dexter Williams again with Jamaal Williams just recently returning from his own hamstring injury.

https://twitter.com/Packers_Writer/status/1164245375718322176

Raiders

The preseason hasn’t been overly kind to the Packers defense as they have given up 26 points in each of their first two NFL Preseason contests. So this could potentially bode well for the Raiders, who could use a nice showing Thursday night amid the Antonio Brown saga. Throughout the preseason and training camps, the two biggest names have consistently been Keelan Doss and Darren Waller. Doss has led the team in receptions and targets, while Waller made his preseason debut in last week’s preseason game. Additionally, at running back DeAndre Washington has flashed with work in the preseason as he continues to fight for a roster spot. His upside in the passing game makes him a very intriguing preseason DFS play.

https://twitter.com/RaidersBeat/status/1163831117730013185

JAX @ MIA

Jaguars

For the Jaguars Marqise Lee, Alfred Blue, Geoff Swaim, Josh Oliver, and Charles Jones will not play. Nick Foles will play, but for how long is up in the air. Tre McBride continues to be a receiver to target throughout preseason DFS. He leads the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards in the first two weeks of the preseason. Leonard Fournette may also see limited action so the work could be loaded onto Devante Mays, who has led the team in rushing attempts through the first two weeks.

Dolphins

Ryan Fitzpatrick looks to get the start with the head coach claiming Josh Rosen is just not ready. Brian Flores has said that this does not mean that Fitzpatrick is the entrenched starter for Week 1. He is going to see more action in this game than in the first two preseason games. Flores wants to see how Fitzpatrick works with the first-team offense during the third preseason game. Should Fitzpatrick play well, that would essentially lock him in to start Week 1 against the Ravens.

Fitzpatrick will be without DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson, and Kenyan Drake. The weapons that Fitzpatrick might end up working with include Preston Williams, Patrick Laird, and Kenny Stills.

Preseason NFL is all about finding players who will have guaranteed playing time and high usage on the field. Follow my position plays and lock in the NFL DFS Picks of Destiny for Sunday and Monday.Note: All NFL DFS players are priced the exact same on both FanDuel and DraftKings.QuarterbackTaysom Hill (New Orleans Saints)Coach Sean Payton is letting his Swiss Army Knife, Hill, play. Last week he went 8-for-14 for 80 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed six times for 45 yards. He really can do it all, especially against the Chargers defense that gave up 17 points to the Arizona Cardinals last week. The Saints are going to put it up more this week, and Hill can attack them through the air or on the ground. He is my favorite NFL DFS quarterback.Drew Lock (Denver Broncos)In Week 1, Lock logged significantly more playing time than any Broncos quarterback. He went 17-for-28 with 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Joe Flacco is the regular season starter and played just one series the first week. I expect Lock to get another long look Monday vs. the 49ers defense. We are looking for playing time and opportunity in preseason NFL DFS and Lock has both in his favor.49ers QBsNick Mullens and CJ Beathard both threw 17 times, both had over 100 yards and both threw one touchdown in Week 1. I give Mullens the slight edge this week.Running BacksXavier Turner (Seattle Seahawks)He got the majority of the Seahawks carries last week, rushing 15 times for 42 yards. He also caught his only target for eight additional yards. The Seahawks are very difficult to predict, especially when it comes to running backs, but if I had to choose one for NFL DFS, it would be Turner.Austin Walter (San Francisco 49ers)Last week he had 13 carries for 38 yards and five receptions for 32 yards. If he is going to be a dual threat, you have to consider him against the Broncos on Monday night.Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers)He was popular in Week 1 and didn’t necessarily break the slate. He caught 2-for-4 for 61 yards with a 45-yard reception. He is a downfield threat and has a good shot to get another deep ball today. He just has to catch it. You can consider Richie James as a 49ers punt.Tre’Quan Smith (New Orleans Saints)With the season approaching, I expect Smith to start to get a longer look. He popped a couple times for us last season but still continues to struggle with his hands. He is the kind of boom or bust receiver that could win you a NFL DFS GPP. In Week 1 he was only targeted twice and caught both for 16 yards. The low output last week should help lower his ownership in Week 2. I would pair him with with the aforementioned Hill.TEDan Arnold (New Orleans Saints)Arnold had two catches for 23 yards with a touchdown in Week 1. I remember last season hearing rumblings about his talent and how much Sean Payton liked to try and find him opportunities. This preseason, he is going to have opportunities to continue to prove himself. He is legitimately a player who can contribute on a weekly basis, but the playing time just has not been there for him, as he is stuck behind Jared Cook and Josh Hill on the depth chart. Arnold will play with the third team offense and will have the most reliable hands on the field for the Saints. I am predicting lightning strikes here two weeks in a row.Ross Dwelley (San Francisco 49ers)Dwelley is trying to fight off rookie Kaden Smith for the backup TE job behind George Kittle, with Garrett Celek currently injured. Last week he had only one catch for 21 yards, however, he was only targeted once. Dwelley has the hands and the speed to get loose and take one to the house. He should also be the preferred TE target in the red zone and is worth a NFL DFS GPP dart.Defense Rankings:

  1. Saints
  2. Vikings

Preseason NFL is all about finding players who will have guaranteed playing time and high usage on the field. Follow my position plays and lock in the NFL DFS Picks of Destiny for Friday.Note: All NFL DFS players are priced the exact same on both FanDuel and DraftKings.QuarterbackJoe Webb III (Houston Texans) This week the Houston Texans take on the Detroit Lions at home. Last week the Lions gave up over 300 yards in the air to Tom Brady’s two backups and lost 31-3. Look, all you really need to know is Webb played the ENTIRE game last week. He went 25-for-40 with 286 yards with one TD and two interceptions. There is no official word if Deshaun Watson will play but either way Webb is guaranteed to get at least three quarters. I am just locking him in for playing time alone. No other QB will have as much opportunity to put up fantasy points. He is going to have a safe floor and will not be the reason you lose this week. Let everyone else make the mistake of trying to get lucky with someone that costs the exact same in NFL DFS and has half the playing time.Jarrett Stidham (New England Patriots)Tom Brady will not play. In Week 1, Jarrett Stidham went 14-for-24 with one touchdown against the Detroit Lions and his NFL DFS owners were rewarded. Coach Bill Belichick has seemed impressed with Stidham’s transition from college to NFL so far and should continue to evaluate him by giving him plenty of run again in Week 2. Stidham will continue to keep his foot on the gas to try and cement his position as the Patriots true second string QB over league vet Brian Hoyer. I watched a lot of Stidham at Auburn and he is the real deal. He legitimately has a chance to be Brady’s replacement (when he chooses to retire) if the Pats don’t trade him away..

Running Back

Blake Snell Jr (Pittsburgh Steelers)

In Week 1 he got 13 carries for only 26 yards. However he did get two receptions, on three targets, for another 26 yards. That is enough opportunity, he just didn’t deliver. Snell Jr. just needs to break one of those 15 attempts vs the up-tempo Chiefs to win us all the money. I will go back to him today.

Nick Brossette (New England Patriots)

The 23 year-old rookie got 22 carries last week vs the Lions for 66 yards and a touchdown. While I don’t think he touches the rock that much this week, if he can get around 15, he should produce. Coach Belichick is wisely not in the habit of letting his starters get much playing time during the preseason. We should get another dose of Brossette vs. the Titans.

Fade: Tony Pollard: With Zeke holding out Pollard is possibly in line for a ton of work this regular season. Cowboys will want him healthy.

Wide Receiver

James Washington (Pittsburgh Steelers)

He was a Week 1 standout and will be popular again this week for good reason. He caught four of five targets for 87 yards and one TD. The Steelers play the Chiefs, and if they care about winning this preseason game, then they are going to have to put up points. Washington may very well be the safest wideout on the board again today for NFL DFS.

Jon’Vea Johnson (Dallas Cowboys)

His production didn’t stand out much in the NFL DFS rankings last week but the opportunity was there. He was targeted more than any other Cowboys wideout (eight) while hauling in three for 30 yards. If they keep feeding him like that he should hit value. He has the breakaway speed to get loose and take one to the house and also should be a priority in the red zone. He will be low owned vs the Rams.

Rashard Higgins (Cleveland Browns)

In Week 1 he had five receptions for 98 yards and a TD vs the Redskins. Higgins is on a TERRIFIC offense and the Browns seem like they are going to want to show off every game, preseason or not. Higgins should have decent ownership after his output last week so I don’t mind pivoting to Dontrell Hilliard for lower ownership with the same NFL DFS upside.

Tight EndBlake Bell and Deon Yelder (Kansas City Chiefs)Did anyone else notice the three top recievers with the most yards last week for the Chiefs were all their tight ends? Kelce, Bell and Yelder all had over 30 yards on 10 combined targets. The Chiefs work their tight ends into the offense more than any other NFL team. Yelder caught a TD last week so now maybe it’s Bell’s turn? I will work both on a NFL DFS team this week.Defense Rankings:

Could not get enough on Thursday? We have three games coming up on Friday, making it the perfect night for DFS preseason action on DraftKings and FanDuel. For this slate, I am going to go through each position and rank my favorite plays. These games include BUF @ CAR, CHI @ NYG, and MIA @ TB.

DFS Preseason

Quarterbacks

BUF – Tyree Jackson – The Bills need to find out what they have in Jackson in the second preseason game. He played just 14 snaps in Week 1 of the preseason. His rushing upside is too much to ignore considering he had six rushing attempts in Week 1.

NYG – Daniel Jones – Apparently the plan for last week was to play Jones longer, but with the weather delay the Giants pivoted. Expect to see more action for Jones in Week 2. I like the matchup against a Bears’ defense that will be resting several starters.

TB – Ryan Griffin – No player had more dropbacks (47) or pass attempts (43) than Griffin did in Week 1 of the preseason. He threw for 330 yards. This is an easy play for DFS preseason. Stack with Justin Watson/Bobo Wilson – Both of these guys ran at least 30 routes in Week 1 and saw at least five targets.

Running Backs

MIA – Mark Walton – With Kenyan Drake in a walking boot and Kallen Ballage the presumed starter that creates an opportunity for Walton. Reports are Walton has a legitimate shot at the RB3 slot on the Dolphins with his main competition being Myles Gaskin. Cameron Wolfe reports that Walton looks like the clear RB3 at this point. Remember Walton was a fourth-round pick versus Gaskin, who was taken in the seventh-round. Walton also ran 13 routes last week which was eight more than Gaskin.

https://twitter.com/OmarKelly/status/1161651868763750400

BUF – Devin Singletary – We saw David Montgomery rip up the Carolina defense in Week 1, rushing three times for 16 yards and a touchdown; along with catching all three of his targets for 30 yards. Enter Singletary, who also was three for three on receiving targets, but had nine carries in Week 1.

CAR – Jordan Scarlett – Scarlett was forced to miss the first preseason game. Instead of making his NFL debut he was subject to streaming the game on his cell phone. Scarlett is in competition for the backup role at running back position. According to Brendan Marks, beat writer from The Observer “Scarlett should see heavy snaps Friday, where he’ll finally get to put his impressive training camp to good use.”

https://twitter.com/ThePantherPR/status/1161657357115564032

CHI – Kerrith Whyte Jr. – Nagy has suggested Montgomery after a strong preseason performance — along with Mike Davis and Tarik Cohen — won’t play much the remainder of the preseason. Many of the carries will go to Whyte, who could find a place as the Bears’ fourth running back. Whyte made the most of his touches last week: Seven for 42 yards (six runs, 35 yards).

DFS Preseason

Wide Receivers

BUF – Ray-Ray McCloud – He has also been impressive throughout the summer, in addition to four targets in Week 1 of the preseason. He also played in over 30% of the snaps. McCloud has seen reps with the first and second-team offenses and saw 18/22 snaps from the slot on passing plays. Also, Nick Easley and quarterback Josh Allen have been reportedly been connecting for touchdowns consistently in practice. Easley is much more of a dart-throw; played just five snaps in Week 1.

https://twitter.com/SalSports/status/1161638185539125248

CAR – Andre Levrone – Led the team in targets (7) in the first preseason game, and continues to have chemistry with not just Cam Newton, but quarterback Kyle Allen as well. Levrone is battling for the fifth and sixth wide receiver spot.

MIA – Preston Williams – The hype train is running off the tracks with Williams and is 100% worth the buy-in. After a great showing versus Atlanta, he needs to be on your radar for Week 2. He led the team in routes run (20) in Week 1.

https://twitter.com/schrayguy/status/1161842334960685056

CHI – Javon Wims – Matt Nagy has zero intent of playing any of his key players Friday night against the Giants. That was a major part of in holding the under-the-lights mock game on Wednesday. Nagy: “They got a lot of reps out here tonight. I like that they got a lot of reps.” Wims had three targets last week but played in 50% of the snaps; specifically, 44% of the passing plays. Wims is also drawing praise from Bears’ cornerback Prince Amukamara.

https://twitter.com/RVacchianoSNY/status/1162071317853741056

NYG – Darius Slayton – Slayton finally returned to practice. Shurmur on Slayton, “He’s a fine receiver…”He has speed, obviously. Through the OTAs and the time he was on the practice field, he displayed the ability to go down the field and make a catch. We anticipate that he’s going to have a bright future. He just needs to get out there.”

https://twitter.com/AlexWilsonESM/status/1162096942303891462

DFS Preseason – Tight Ends

CAR – Chris Manhertz – Though known as more of run-blocker, Manhertz has come alive in the passing game, using his 6-6 frame to get leverage in red-zone situations. He has seen more playing time with Ian Thomas out with a rib injury. Keep in mind Manhertz is one of the rare tight ends with the basketball background. Manhertz has played in 39 career NFL games as a guy that didn’t even play football in college. Or high school. With Thomas not expected to play, and a chance that Olsen’s reps will be limited, Manhertz could see a large number of snaps in both run-blocking and pass-catching situations on Friday.

TB – Tanner Hudson – No tight end ran more routes (38) than Hudson did in the first week of the preseason. Hudson has continued to stand out in joint practices as reported by Carmel Vitali. Her reports also say that the tight ends for Tampa Bay have had a lot of success in one-on-one drills against Miami defensive backs. The Miami 2s had no answer for tight end Tanner Hudson underneath in seven-on-seven drills.

https://twitter.com/LMart810/status/1161693512921956352

CHI – Ian Bunting – Bunting could again lead the Bears’ tight ends in targets a week after he led the team in receptions. He had three catches but also had two penalties and a fumble in a mixed performance last Thursday.

DFS Preseason – Defenses

Tampa Bay – Reports from joint practices showed that the Buccaneers’ front were consistently dominating the Dolphins’ offensive line. Former Dolphin defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh at one point broke through the line so easily and effortlessly and tossed his blocker to the ground as he made his way toward quarterback Josh Rosen.

Back for more? We have five games coming up on Thursday, making it the perfect night for locking in some lineups for DFS preseason on DraftKings and FanDuel. For this slate, I am going to go through each position and rank my favorite plays for Thursday night. The Thursday night games include PHI @ JAC, GB @ BAL, CIN @ WAS, NYJ @ ATL, and OAK @ ARI.

Quarterbacks

BAL – Trace McSorley – He disappointed in his preseason debut, but still played the majority of snaps at the quarterback position for the Ravens. He has running upside and the Packers allowed 47 rushing yards off scrambles versus Houston’s Joe Webb in Week 1.

WAS – Dwayne Haskins – Colt McCoy is out again, meaning Haskins will see plenty of snaps against the Bengals defense that allowed 38 points last week. Haskins struggled in his first game action but could bounce back similar to what we saw of Drew Lock in his second preseason game.

PHI – Cody Kessler – The Eagles quarterback should see extended playing game in the second preseason game following the injury to backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld. It’s a #RevengeGame for Kessler as he takes on the Jaguars ,who released him earlier in the offseason.

JAX – Gardner Minshew – The Jacksonville Jaguars do not intend on playing Nick Foles against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday. Reports out of camp this week report Minshew has responded to a rough outing last week against Baltimore with a good week of practice. He came back to have perhaps his best practice of the preseason on Sunday, and on Tuesday he completed 11 of 17 passes in a combination of 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods and threw two touchdown passes to Tre McBride. Many people are fading this game because of the lack of scoring in their first season preseason games. However, this is why its the perfect GPP play.

https://twitter.com/kracze/status/1160979368585441280

ARI – Brett Hundley – Looks like Kyler Murray is only going to play a quarter at most on Thursday and then Hundley will be taking over. He will be getting some reps in with some of the other starters like David Johnson and Christian Kirk.

https://twitter.com/joshweinfuss/status/1161732514852954112

Running Backs

GB – Dexter Williams – The Packers have said that the starters will play in the first quarter against the Ravens. Aaron Jones will see the touches here, but then it’s most likely the work will turn to Williams again. He rushed for 62 yards on 14 carries in Week 1. Jamaal Williams is still out with a hamstring injury.

https://twitter.com/TomSilverstein/status/1161329470684508162

CIN – Trayveon Williams – Left his NFL debut with a rib injury, but after scoring a touchdown. Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard will be available according to head coach Zac Taylor in Week 2. However, being that they are starters, Williams (if healthy) should play the majority of snaps later in the game. If not Jordan Ellis is a potential pivot. He had five receptions on six targets for 44 yards and touchdown.

https://twitter.com/Ben_Baby/status/1161817432954212352

WAS – Samaje Perine – He cannot afford to play poorly in the second preseason game. Perine should see his share of carries as the Redskins will most assuredly be careful with Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, and Chris Thompson. There’s also a chance more starting offensive linemen play, which could help Perine immensely. Jay Gruden also loves Perine, despite how poor he has been.

NYJ – Elijah McGuire – No player had a higher target share in Week 1 of the preseason than McGuire (28%). McGuire looks to be battling for the RB3/RB4 spot behind Le’Veon Bell and Ty Montgomery. McGuire led the team in targets (seven) and considering it’s the Falcons’ defense, which notoriously allows receptions to backs, that makes McGuire a great play. In the two preseason games they have played they have allowed three receptions to backs with an additional receiving touchdown. McGuire is also reportedly on the roster bubble, making him presumably a player the Jets are not concerned about losing to injury.

Wide Receivers

JAX – Tre McBride – He led the Jaguars in targets (4), receptions (3), and receiving yards (42) during the first week of the preseason and has been showing chemistry with quarterback Minshew. McBride runs a 4.41 and the Eagles allowed 292 receiving yards in Week 1.

https://twitter.com/Simple_dfs/status/1161655417937846272
https://twitter.com/ChrisPorterFCN/status/1161303771424493568

BAL – Miles Boykin – Nine targets in his first preseason game, four receptions for 39 yards. With Marquise Brown set to miss another preseason game Boykin is a lock for targets in Week 2.

CIN – Auden Tate – With injuries plaguing the Bengals at wide receiver Tate has made the most of his opportunities. Looked good in the first preseason game and he continues to make impressive grabs at practice. The Bengals had 46 pass attempts and only 12 rushing attempts in preseason Week 1.

WAS – Darvin Kidsy – He received seven targets in Week 1 of the preseason, good for a seventh-highest target rate (21.9%) of all receivers.

NYJ – Greg Dortch – Continues to impress at practice after a strong preseason Week 1 performance. Dortch’s game has recently risen beyond special teams. He caught 4 passes on 6 targets, one of them being a touchdown, against the Giants in his NFL debut. On Tuesday, he began getting reps as the slot receiver for the second-team offense.

Tight Ends

DAL – Cody McElroy – I am a Blake Jarwin-truther, but it looks like tight end McElroy could see a great uptick in snaps and targets. Jarwin had the second most receptions at the position in Week 1 of the preseason.

https://twitter.com/DavidMooreDMN/status/1161006189670387712

ATL – Jaeden Graham – The Falcons recently traded Eric Saubert to the Patriots for a conditional draft pick. At first glance, this would seemingly benefit Graham. He has seen five targets and led the tight end group in routes run over the past two preseason games.

ARI – Ricky Seals-Jones – Seals-Jones is listed as a third-string tight end behind Charles Clay and Maxx Williams on the Cardinals’ unofficial depth chart in advance of Thursday’s preseason game against the Raiders. Charles Clay is returning from the PUP so Seals-Jones should see playing time Thursday. He ran the third-most routes on the team in Week 1 of the preseason.

PHI – Josh Perkins – No Dallas Goedert or Richard Rodgers? No problem for Perkins with Kessler under center.

https://twitter.com/kracze/status/1161286512392228867
https://twitter.com/mike_e_kaye/status/1161280878498197506

Defenses

Cardinals – See Nathan Peterman.

Jaguars – Eagles quarterbacks could struggle early on.

Let everyone else make the mistake of trying to get lucky with someone that costs the exact same in NFL DFS and has half the playing time.Drew Lock (Denver Broncos)In Week 1 Drew Lock logged significantly more playing time than any Broncos quarterback. He went 17-for-28 with 180 yards a touchdown and an interception. Joe Flacco is the regular season starter and played just one series the first week. I expect Lock to get another long look Monday vs. the 49ers defense. We are looking for playing time and opportunity in preseason NFL DFS and Lock has it.Josh Rosen (Miami Dolphins)The Dolphins play the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay. Last week the Bucs gave up 30 points to the Mason Rudolph-led Pittsburgh Steelers. I like Rosen again this week for a lot of the same reasons as last week. He will be splitting time with Ryan Fitzpatrick and is trying to win the starter’s job. He will also be coming in second, meaning he gets the less experienced defense. In Week 1 Fitz went 2-for-5 with 20 yards while Rosen went 13-for-20 with 191 yards with one interception. Fitz should get a little more time than he did last week but I would still expect Rosen to outproduce him. I believe Rosen will be the starter for the Dolphins before the season is over. He needs to throw at least one TD vs the Bucs and get the momentum building. I like him again as a NFL DFS play this weekJarrett Stidham (New England Patriots)Tom Brady will not play. He legitimately has a chance to be Brady’s replacement (when he chooses to retire) if the Pats don’t trade him away..Dwyane Haskins (Washington Redskins)Dwayne Haskins will get a bump in playing time this week with Josh Woodrum tearing a pectoral muscle and Colt McCoy still unable to return. Haskins will be splitting time with Case Keenum. In Week 1 Haskins went 8-for-14, 117 yards and two interceptions vs. a pumped up Browns defense in Cleveland. Haskins should be able to get his team in the box at least once vs the Cincinnati Bengals, who just gave up 38 to the Kansas City Chiefs.Tight EndJoshua Perkins (Philadelphia Eagles)The Eagles are thin at TE. Zach Erts won’t see the field much, Dallas Goedert is out the rest of the preseason with a calf injury and Richard Rodgers is dealing with a foot issue. The only NFL DFS options left at TE are Joshua Perkins and Will Tye. Perkins has had a stellar camp and now has the perfect opportunity to bust out on a big stage.Dan Arnold (New Orleans Saints)Dan Arnold went 2-for-23 with a touchdown in Week 1. I remember last season hearing rumblings of his talent and how much Coach Sean Payton liked to try and find him opportunities. Well this preseason he is going to have opportunities to continue to prove himself. He is legitimately a player who can contribute on a weekly basis, however, the playing time just has not been there for him. As of now he is stuck behind Jared Cook and Josh Hill on the depth chart. Arnold will play with the third team offense and will have the most reliable hands on the field for the Saints. I am predicting lightning strikes here two weeks in a row.Ross Dwelley (San Francisco 49ers)Ross Dwelley is trying to fight off rookie Kaden Smith for the backup TE job behind George Kittle, with Garret Celek currently injured. Last week he had only one catch for 21 yards, however, he was only targeted once. Dwelley has the hands and the speed to get loose and take one to the house. He should also be the preferred TE target in the red zone. He is worth a NFL DFS GPP dart.Ricky Seals Jones (Arizona Cardinals) He will get plenty of time on the field behind a hobbled Charles Clay. Fellow WinDaily writer Andrew Erickson pointed out that he rant the third most routes of any player on the Cardinals last week. I like it.Defense Rankings:

  1. Ravens
  2. Jaguars
  3. Houston
  4. Carolina
  5. Denver
  6. Cardinals
