We spend endless hours here at Win Daily Sports breaking down every detail of every sport for every slate. 365 days a year we comb through injury news, matchup data, weather reports, depth charts, and coaching styles to give the the best chance to Win Daily. Our name is more than just a catchy title to grab your attention. It is a mantra that we aim to live up to inside and outside of fantasy sports. For this reason we are going to start taking deeper dives into fundamentals that you may not always think about but are no less important than the lineups that you build and WinDaily Sports Bankroll Management- DFS 101 is a step towards helping you have long term success.

If your goal is to have long term success in Fantasy Sports there are good habits that you need to develop and bad habits that you need to actively avoid. Bankroll Management is rarely talked about outside of generalized statements in most of the community but if you listen to Jason talk on our show on SiriusXM during the NFL season I know for a fact that you have heard it. He talks about taking the budget that you are willing to spend and breaking it down either into 16 smaller weekly budgets so that you don’t overextend yourself in any given week. In the explanation below for ease of explanation I’ll talk about a sample NFL budget 10 weeks long but you can apply this in whatever segments work best for you (by day, week, month, by sport broken down by day/week/month) so that you can understand where your budget is at any given point so that can see where you should adjust.

WinDaily Sports Bankroll Management- DFS 101 Bankroll Overview:

First thing that you need to do is take an honest stock of your financial situation. Everyone is different. Some of us can play $100 dollars a night and not think twice. Others play the quarters or dollar. The process remains the same. The one thing that you can not do is throw all of you money into a slate at any given night. We all want to hit it big but there is no worse long term choice.

Let’s say for this ten week stretch you can commit $1,000 dollars to your bankroll. At this baseline you should divide this up into close to equal segments (you can move up or down on a given week based on an honest assessment of you confidence in a given slate but don’t go crazy) so $100 dollars per week so here is

Money/Time= Budget or (M/T)=B or 1000/10= $100 per week

WinDaily Sports Bankroll Management- DFS 101 Contest Selection:

Everyone wants the big win, I get it. That $1,000,000 top prize is enticing. It is also no better than a lottery ticket if you are putting one or two entries in it. The players you always see up top are putting 150 entries into EVERY SINGLE CONTEST IN EVERY SINGLE SPORT. That means at the exact same skill level if you enter two lineups you have a .013% chance of winning before even taking skill, other players, contest size, or pay line into consideration. That’s just head to head. Do you understand why we want you to avoid until you have the bankroll to do it? You should live in single entry in both cash and GPP until you can go toe to toe with these guys/gals. Those contests also have the worst pay structure and they take the highest percentage of cash out as rake (payment to the dfs site pulled from player entries) sometimes reaching as much as 18% of the prize pool. The question you need to ask next is how much of your money should you put in each type of contest below.

WinDaily Sports Bankroll Management- DFS 101 The 80/20/10 Rule

Here is where the rubber meets the road. How do we finally divide this up. The standard rule for the longest time was 80/20/10 but now the game has changed over the years to be a little more advantageous towards GPP’s so people have started going with 75/25/10 or even 70/30/10 but the premise is the same and it just depends on your risk tolerance. The 10 is simple. It is the percentage of your total bankroll that you should spend during any predetermined period of time that you selected. We already did that when we took our $1,000 budget and divided it up over 10 weeks so $100 per the example. Of that $100 you should split it between 80% Cash games (50/50’s, Double-Ups) and 20% GPP’s (Single Entry). If you want to take 5% of the GPP’s and apply it to the lottery tickets to have some fun have at it, we all love the big win. So taking the earlier formula (M/T) and apply the 80/20 (we already have the 10 for budget) rule and we get $80 dollars for for Single entry cash games and $20 dollars for single entry GPP’s or $18 for Single entry GPP’s and $2 for the lotto tickets.

(M/T)=B, then (C/B), (G/B), (B/MG) or (1000/10)= $100, then (80/100)= .08 or $80 (move the decimal two spaces to the right for your dollar number) then (20/100)= .2 or $20 for GPP, or $15 for SE GPP and $5 for Multi Entry GPP if putting the 5% in the lotto tickets. I know that sounds confusing so without the word salad it’s:$1,000 total, $100 per slate, $80 to cash, and $20 to GPP’s for any slate over your chosen budget period.

WHY?

The most important question, Why? Simple, we all experience periods where we struggle to hit that cash line and bankroll management aims to minimize the amount of money you lose during these down periods. In some cases, you can continue to make a small consistent profit in your cash games while not cashing in your tournaments allowing you to grow your bankroll and capitalize on GPP’s easier once you have that perfect lineup.

MLB Season-Long Fantasy Draft Guide

Howdy! Welcome to my 2021 Win Daily Sports’ MLB Season-Long Fantasy Draft Guide. If you read my last article, you have joined your MLB season-long fantasy leagues (mine are on CBS and Yahoo), scheduled your drafts, and are now preparing to dominate your leagues. This article will go over some strategies for keepers and drafts (auction and snake), as well as some player rankings.

KEEPERS

I enjoy keeper leagues. Two of my three leagues are keeper leagues. I like that it makes the fantasy league a year-round activity and allows for more skill to be involved. I especially like that fantasy league members with no shot at winning in a particular season are still incentivized to be involved because they can improve their chances for the following season and beyond by improving their keepers via trades and free agency. My recent favorite example of this occurred a few years ago in 2017 in my AL-Only keeper auction league. I was having a down year and was able to trade some non-keepers for a young Gary Sanchez and a still-in-the-minor-leagues, Gleybar Torres. Yes, I am a Mets fan, but I also like winning in fantasy leagues and this trade set me up for success for the next couple of seasons. In fact, Gleybar Torres is still on my team and at a lower than market rate price.

Make sure you know the rules in your league governing keepers. Most leagues will institute some kind of tax or inflation which will affect the keeper value of the player. In snake drafts, the tax usually is having the keeper player have to kept in a higher round than they were originally drafted, i.e., a player drafted in the 6th round would now be kept in the 4th round. In auction leagues, there may be an additional cost added to the player being kept, i.e., a player won at auction for $10 would be kept for $15. Additionally, there may be rules in both types of leagues for how many years a player can be kept. All these variables will affect how valuable your keeper is.

Speaking of value, that is the key to determining whether or not you should keep a player. You would not decide to make Mike Trout one of your keepers in a snake draft with the 1st overall pick in the 1st round of the draft. This is because there is no value in doing that when you could just keep other players and redraft Mike Trout. The same goes for an auction league where you would have to keep Trout for $75 but you believe it is likely he would only go between $50 – $60 in the draft. You have to make sure you have player rankings and auction prices figured out for your specific leagues when making your keeper determinations. You also need to determine your league’s inflation rate.

DRAFTS

Personally, I prefer auction drafts. I enjoy both, but there is more skill involved in auction drafts, so I typically perform better. Also, in snake drafts, I inherently do not like that my random and arbitrary draft slot decides who is on my team. I have a snake draft this week where I have the 13th pick out of 14 teams so I already know a few players I have no shot at drafting. Conversely, if any of my personally ranked top-12 players fall to me at #13, I am now getting a great value in my draft spot.

Whether you are in an auction or snake draft, if you sing while playing fantasy baseball you may not get a good pitch(er)! #DadJoke. While that joke is obviously terrible, my advice is not. Sing all you want because you do not need to waste valuable resources on good pitch(ers). Hitters, especially the top ones, are generally more consistent and less injury prone from year to year and thus more projectable. As such, they are a better use of prime auction dollars and high-round draft picks.

Your season-long fantasy league cannot be won the moment the draft is completed. Most successful teams will usually look vastly different at the end of the year. Even if you come out of the draft with a weak pitching staff, you will always be able to improve it on the waiver wire, free agency, or trades. An active manager has a better chance at being successful. This principle, added to the fact that it is usually much easier to find pitchers throughout the year, enforces my belief that hitters are more important in the draft.

In a snake draft, I will usually seek to draft 6-7 hitters in the first 10 rounds. In an auction draft, I am looking to spend 70-80% of my budget on hitters. Obviously, things can change if value appears (you know the saying, if they zig you want to zag), but this is generally my approach. It is also helpful to do some mock drafts.

RANKINGS

Now the moment some of my friends and league mates have been waiting for: Here are my personal 2021 MLB season-long fantasy draft guide league rankings by position. These rankings can change depending on league rules and team needs, i.e., if I need more speed or power or batting average depending on the other players on my team. Make sure you check your individual league and website for player’s position eligibility. Even more importantly, make sure you are up to date on a player’s injury status.

NBA Top Shot Beginner’s Guide

If you’re in the NBA DFS circle or any type of collecting, odds are you can’t walk five feet without hearing “NBA Top Shot”. It’s probably gotten to the point of irritation for some (sorry Brian, me, and Ghost love you for dealing with it in chat) but just what is going on here? It’s still a little hard to quantify but we can take a swing at nailing down exactly what’s happening in the NBA Top Shot Beginner’s Guide to maybe make some money!

*NOTE* I want to be very, very clear before we get into this. I’m not pretending to be some seasoned veteran of Top Shot. I’ve been a member for around a month and have been lucky so far. Anything that follows is not to be considered financial advice. This is still a risky proposition and should be treated as such. Just like our DFS advice, manage your bankroll wisely and don’t spend anything you can’t afford to lose.

What is Top Shot?

The most literal way to explain comes directly from the site, nbatopshot.com –

High-flying dunks. No look dimes. Game saving blocks. The level of drama and skill in NBA basketball is simply unmatched in the sports world. Now you can own a piece of that action.

The NBA, NBPA, and Dapper Labs have teamed up to create NBA Top Shot, a revolutionary new game in which jaw-dropping plays and unforgettable highlights become collectibles that you can own forever.

It’s not entirely different than physical card collecting, except everything is now digital. The most common reaction (and one that I had myself) is “Why am I paying this kind of money for highlights?” and that’s a fair question. The moments are blockchain-based so each individual Moment has an ownership aspect to it, just like a physical card.

The Moments vary in all sorts of ways. There are tiers of Common, Limited Edition, Rare, Cosmic, Legendary, etc… and there are certain limits on how many are minted. Every Moment gets a unique serial number and generally the lower it is the more value it carries. Serials matching jersey numbers of that player are more highly sought after as well.

As you can see in his Zion Moment, the serial numbers only go up to 7,500. It’s marked LE for Limited Edition, has the serial number next to the Mint count, and what type of play it is (Layup). When you click on it, the highlight plays and has all other pertinent information from that particular game where the highlight came from.

The website is still in beta, so you need to be prepared for some small bumps along the road. I will say, the user experience has had some frustrations but improved vastly in my short time as a member. The bumps are worth the fun though as the ecosystem continues to grow and expand.

How do I buy Moments?

The most preferable way is through “packs” which are dropped periodically. Right now, packs range from Base Set which contains three moments for $9 all the way up to $230-$1,000. Just like real cards, the expense goes up with the rarity and type of cards being purchased. It must be said that the Base Set packs are not readily available right now. Since the site is in Beta, drops are sporadic in nature and you need to allow all notifications to get an idea of when they drop.

For every pack that is not a Base Set, you can sign up for notifications and get a minimum eight-hour notice to prepare. Right now, Top Shot uses the queue system and draws random numbers when a pack drops. With the exponential demand, they’ve deemed it fairest to do things that way. So you may be asking yourself, how do I buy Moments if the packs are sold out?

The Marketplace

Top Shot runs a Market to buy and sell Moments 24/7 (unless it’s in maintenance mode and you’re notified). You can connect with any collector and sell the Moment for any price you can get. The Marketplace has gone bonkers the past few days because the Base Set 1 and 2 have been retired. That means that the count on the Moments has been set and no more will ever be made. The more users that come in, the higher the demand has got so far. There’s still a ton of good deals and it’s the easiest way to sell Moments to make money. It’s also the only way that’s backed up by Top Shot and Dapper Labs (the company running things) so buyer beware in any other setting.

Is This Real?

There are some HUGE questions that some folks are hung up on, at least that I’ve seen or personally interacted with.

I heard you can’t withdraw money. Are you getting scammed?

This has been a very common complaint. What I’ve seen has been directly from the site and the managers and it’s that they flat weren’t prepared to get this big this quick. There are layers of fraud and money-laundering protections since everything is done digitally. Dapper needs to clear accounts to withdraw, which is taking over a month in some cases.

While some see that as a major issue, my take is the NBA itself signed off on it. That means the NBA is making money on it since it’s licensing their players. On top of that, NBA players are getting involved. Their reputation would have so much to lose if this was a scam, so I don’t buy that. The wise move here is to not put in money that you can’t afford to be without for a couple of months. If you’re looking at it as an investment, plan to be without that investment money for the foreseeable future.

Why is there value in these highlights?

That’s the biggest question. In truth, I don’t have the perfect answer. There’s a lot of value that is derived from how many there are, who’s in the highlight, and how great the highlight is. In that respect, it’s not any different than physical card collecting. People say they can see any highlight on YouTube and they’re right. By that same token, I can look up any card I want. Unless I owned it, it’s irrelevant. When you buy a Moment, you buy that piece of the blockchain and there’s only one of that unique serial number.

What’s the end game?

Brian has brought up a good point on Twitter and in Discord. If you’re not just here to make a quick buck, what is the end game? Are there folks out there who are actually collecting? It’s a valid question. If there are not actual collectors, there’s only so far this can go. I honestly don’t have an answer on that. Most everyone I know and I have approached it as a mercenary. I have no real desire to collect, but I see the money being thrown around. If there’s long-term viability, I want in NOW and not six months from now. If there’s not, I’m willing to set a limit on what I would take in return before everything crashes and burns.

NBA Top Shot Beginner’s Guide – The Verdict

In my view, I think this product is here to stay. I believe once the NBA throws the weight of their PR machine behind it, the sky is the limit. Sure, it’s fun to just buy highlights and yell, “TO THE MOON” but there is real money to be made here. Be savvy and smart with investing and you can turn a profit. If you’re looking to get into the collecting aspect, it’s better to get in now than later because for the Moments already out there, the prices may not look back. The best approach is fun money to see if this is for you or not, but I’m strapped into the rocket and looking up!

7 Rules to Successful Profitable Trading

Before proceeding in anything in life, especially the unknown word of Wall Street, we must have rules to follow if success will follow and repeat forever. I hope that these 7 Rules to Successful Profitable Trading will guide you with a smart and logical foundation to implement immediately. Patience, Timing and Knowledge prevail, but for our journey with stocks, I am certain that these rules will be of great value to you becoming and staying a successful and profitable trader.

Image result for one

1.Understand what your trade is:

Have A Plan, do not just follow some word of mouth. It does not work like this! Before your trade is on you should already know the targets you are after from studying the chart and numbers. Know your particular trading rules and stick to them no matter the result. Do not deviate from this plan and successful trading is already underway. Army discipline, pay attention to what and why, and I definitely utilize these 7 Rules to Successful Profitable Trading.

2 . Never stop educating yourself:

In any profession, you can never truly master it or reach the top. You are as good as the last thing you learned. With a transition personally myself in life, Wall Street is far from any different. “Paying Tuition” along the way and training with many top traders throughout our country is part of my journey. Continue to educate and learn daily to become better than yesterday everyday. Pay attention to what you do and take notes as the stock market is alive with a heart beat and will teach you new tricks to help win daily.

3. Focus on one strategy at a time:

Laser sharp focus ,avoid distractions and overtrading. Follow your plan of attack upon starting a trade until its done. Avoid the headaches and keep things simple. Do not try to trade too many things at one time until you are an experienced trader. Though we can sometimes simply get lucky, have some discipline and lesson your trade risk amount as it goes up or down! Take profits at your markers and remember, “You don’t go broke taking profit,” and “cash is king”.

Image result for cash is king

Don’t look back in anger when you could have made more . I assure that you could have just as easily lost what was made by holding on hoping it will keep going up. When a trade is wrong, take the loss and move on to a better set up. We are always best off if we can put your profits to work wisely, but not in a rush just to make the next move. 7 Rules to Successful Profitable Trading become more and more important as your experience grows.

4. No Revenge Trading:

If you have and execute a plan that doesn’t go as planned, if you followed your trading rules you will be out with minimal damage ready to move on. Often times our mental psychology brings us immediately back to that same losing trade. Simply move on because if that set up was correct it will re present itself with better support to re enter later. Point- take the loss , take a walk to clear your head back to focused and move on to a winner. Do not potentially implode your account as your mind will play games with you after a loss of any significance.

3 effective ways to clear your mind

5. Always pay close attention to volume and find those spikes:

These momentum volume driven trades are often the best ones. Often times you may see a breakout but without heavy volume the probability of failure or breakdown is higher. Though this applies mostly to day and swing trading, it certainly plays a factor in any trade as an aid to identifying a breakout pattern with some momentum. It is not the end all it is quite helpful to me though it could also indicate the end of a breakout as well where both buyers and sellers are both creating the volume at the same time

6. Listen to the charts:

They don’t lie as there is reason stocks go up and down all day every day. With proper chart knowledge and training , trading with charts and levels pre drawn out certainly help display what is actively happening , happened in the past and often times help to indicate the future direction of a stock (short and long term) Read your charts and do not hope and pray someone else’s opinion is right. Listen to what the chart is telling you.

7. Nothing is Impossible:

In todays game (GME) everything and anything goes: I was recently reminded when Bear Sterns went under in 2007-2008. The story goes that when it dropped from $150 to $100 a share, most didn’t understand why or how it could ever go any lower. At $75 a share, man did many think this was a bottomed bargain. If you ask what its worth today ($0) most will ask you “who is Bear Sterns?” Everything and anything is possible today in 2021.

If you do pay close attention, amazing things do occur.. As a UF gator this is quite a life and game changer.

Strive to become a better than average trader and most days the results will follow follow. How much money you have or your trade is worth is not relevant, always set goals and when you cross them make certain to set vision on your new ones.

This discipline has enabled my knowledge base to grow and my money to Win Daily. In the stock market with all the tools and education out there at your finger tips- strive for the best, set your goals and blow past them. When you’re there, rinse repeat and do it again with new visions. Educate, never stop learning and follow These 7 Rules to Successful Profitable Trading. Thanks for your time and hope this helps any level trader.

Have you ever stepped into an uncomfortable situation and thought to yourself, ” How do I do this and Win?” That is the case with many people who love daily fantasy sports and have no other option but to attempt to play UFC DFS blindly. Today is your lucky day. I am here to teach you the ins and outs of building a winning UFC DFS lineup without knowing much about the sport at all. Without further adieu, let’s get started.

Step One: Acknowledge and look up each fighter.

The first step is acknowledging who is fighting and against who, followed by looking into the fighter’s fight history. This can be done by simply googling each fighter by name and using certain websites that prioritize each fighter and allow you to type a fighter’s name and see exactly who they previously have fought and when (www.Tapology.com). Use this information to determine if the fighter is in a battle against someone they have an advantage over by looking to see the different types of fight styles that the opponent has won or lost to. This will also allow you to potentially find an underdog who is in a position to win.

Step Two: Determine lineup construction.

Whether you are playing on Draftkings or Fanduel, lineup construction is key to a winning DFS lineup. This is where you will decide if you want to build a stars and scrubs lineup or a more balanced lineup. When you are looking into fighter statistics, you will find one or two fighters that you want to build your lineup around, and this is called your “core.” You want to input those fighters and fill in the other roster spots. After you lock in your top two plays, you will start to build your very own unique lineup. When creating this lineup, you will begin to see if you are making a stars and scrubs lineup or a balanced lineup.

In my opinion, the most optimal way to build changes every fight card, and if you predict underdogs to win, you will be building a stars and scrubs lineup. If you anticipate all favorites to win, you will be building a more balanced lineup. Don’t forget that you want to create a lineup that has the potential to be an OVERALL top score and not just a lineup that has big-name fighters. Sometimes it is better to avoid a guaranteed knockout and fit in six projected winners than forcing in three high projecting fighters and three dart throws.

Step Three: Review

After filling in your DFS lineup’s final spots, make sure you do not have fighters in the same fight in the same lineup. ALWAYS double-check your work. There’s nothing more discouraging than finding out you have the top five high scorers and you made a mistake on the sixth. If there is a fight that projects to have a high scoring fighter, but it could go either way, I recommend building an identical lineup with just one switch of a fighter and going the other way of the knockout fight.

UFC DFS GPP lineups:

When building lineups for GPP’s, you want to make sure that you have one or two fighters going to go under-owned. This will allow you to create leverage and help you make your lineup different than any others in the large field GPP. Remember, it only takes one punch to knock out a heavy popular favorite.

UFC DFS Cash lineups:

When building cash lineups, you want to have fighters that are projected to win. The higher Vegas has the odds, the better they are for your lineup. When building this lineup, you usually want to have the popular fighters and give you a balanced lineup. In cash games, it is okay to have the same lineup as other people because usually, the top 50% of the players are the ones that make money.

Summary:

There is a big difference between cash games and GPP lineups, and it is crucial to understand what you are playing. With UFC DFS, I like to prioritize single entry and three entry max GPP’s. This will give you the best opportunity to win without going up against people that enter 150 lineups. If cash games are your style, then we have all the tools to help you with that as well.
