Portland Trail Blazers

Plenty of games on tonight’s NBA slate but a few stand out above the rest. It’s a Wet Wednesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Golden State Warriors @ Indiana Pacers (OTB)

Golden State Warriors (OTB)

This will be an injury report to monitor throughout the day. While there is no clear path to take as of yet, there will be one once the NBA slate locks, as this is the first one on it. Klay Thompson has sat out back-to-backs this season, and he continues to rehabilitate from multiple ACL injuries. Moreover, Draymond Green is a rest candidate, Andrew Wiggins is out with a groin injury, and Steph Curry looked hobbled by the end of yesterday’s game against the Bucks. Thus, Jordan Poole can be one of the most popular players on the slate, depending on how this one shakes out.

Indiana Pacers (OTB)

Depending on who plays for the Warriors, there are different ways to get exposure to the Pacers in an elite game environment. The Warriors currently lead the NBA in pace, while the Pacers rank 5th. Thus, there will be a ton of offense in this one and getting exposure to both sides is a strong start to any NBA lineup tonight. Tyrese Haliburton has upside in this matchup given that the Warriors rank 23rd against primary ball handlers. Moreover, the duo of Buddy Hield and Myles Turner can do damage in the midrange of the pricing grid.

Portland Trail Blazers @ San Antonio Spurs (+6.5)

Portland Trail Blazers (-6.5)

This is a risky spot for the Trail Blazers. While they are heavily favored, Vegas does not have this as a landslide victory. Thus, be cautious with exposure but feel confident enough to get a piece of this high scoring game. Damian Lillard is the main contributor on offense, but this is a favorable matchup for Anfernee Simons as a tournament play. San Antonio currently ranks last in the NBA against off-ball guards, allowing over 44 fantasy points per game to the player type. Moreover, the Spurs rank last in three-point shooting percentage allowed and 23rd in three-pointers allowed per game. With Simons being one of three players to hoist up over ten three-pointers per night, he has the chance to lead the team in scoring tonight.

San Antonio Spurs (+6.5)

While the trio of Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, and Tre Jones will shoulder the offense once again, there will be value in this Spurs frontcourt. Jakob Poeltl remains out and Zach Collins is listed as doubtful to play. Thus, a combination of Jeremy Sochan, Keita Bates-Diop, Charles Bassey, and Isaiah Roby will see the bulk of minutes in a favorable matchup. Portland currently ranks 26th in the NBA against centers while being 22nd in points allowed in the paint per game. Look for updates in our projections for further direction.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Los Angeles Clippers (-6.5)

Minnesota Timberwolves (+6.5)

This game brings us back to a duo that won us a ton of money on Monday night. Despite the field loving Anthony Edwards, I preached the upside of Rudy Gobert as a pivot and tonight is the same case. While the Clippers are known to go with smaller lineups, they will have no choice to roll Ivica Zubac for more time, as the Timberwolves simply cannot match the Clippers’ small ball lineup with Towns still out. Thus, Gobert has massive upside in this matchup. The Clippers currently rank 24th in the NBA against true centers. Moreover, Gobert has three double-doubles in his last four games, averaging 19.5/15.8/1.5 on 66% shooting.

Los Angeles Clippers (-6.5)

I preached the upside of Kawhi Leonard in his last matchup and boy did he come through! Not only was he rostered by a mere 5% of the field that night, but Kawhi dropped 47 fantasy points in 29 minutes. Tonight, we’re going right back to the well. While on a “minutes limit”, Leonard has now seen 28 or more minutes in his last four contests. That is more than enough to do significant damage on this NBA slate. The Timberwolves currently rank 28th against wings, struggling mightily with their 3-and-D rotation. In his last contest, Kawhi dropped 25/9/6 on 83.3% shooting and I expect more of the same tonight, even despite an expected dip in efficiency.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Sacramento Kings @ Toronto Raptors (-5.5)
  • Miami Heat @ Oklahoma City Thunder (+4.5)

There are plenty of elite matchups on tonight’s NBA slate. However, the majority of the action resides in the latter part of the schedule. It’s a Mojito Monday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Brooklyn Nets @ Washington Wizards (+5.5)

Brooklyn Nets (-5.5)

Back to back calls on Kyrie Irving has paid off in tournaments. On tonight’s NBA slate, he’s in another good spot. Over his last ten appearances, Kyrie has scored 20 or more in nine of ten. Moreover, he has averaged 25.2/4.4/4.5 on 51.3% shooting. With the absence of Royce O’Neale from the lineup, Kyrie becomes the primary three-point shooter as well. Washington currently ranks 28th in the league in three-point percentage allowed on 12.6 made attempts allowed per game. This play is for tournaments only, as I much rather get exposure to the next two games.

Washington Wizards (+5.5)

Exposure to the Wizards offense on tonight’s NBA slate depends on the availability of Bradley Beal. After leaving a game against the Lakers over a week ago, Beal has since missed three games and is questionable to play tonight. Should he be ruled out again, the trio of Kristaps Porzingis, Kyle Kuzma, and Deni Avdija will be in for another night of big minutes. The Wizards have been playing on an awfully short rotation this past week, and tonight may be the same case. Should Beal make his return, I’ll fade this game entirely to prioritize the next two.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Portland Trail Blazers (-4.5)

Minnesota Timberwolves (+4.5)

Karl-Anthomy Towns remains out and there is a lot to like about the trio of Edwards, Gobert, and Russell. While Anthony Edwards has the highest ceiling of the three, his point/dollar upside isn’t ideal in this matchup. Rather, Gobert will be in for a big night against Jusuf Nurkic. Portland currently ranks 24th in the NBA in defensive rating. However, they have been exposed in the paint. Portland struggles mightily on both ends of the floor, ranking 24th in the league against true centers. Moreover, they are 22nd in points allowed in the paint per game. Gobert certainly won’t lead the team in touches, but his efficiency around the rim will be on display. Many shot takers in this game gives Gobert plenty of rebounding opportunity.

Portland Trail Blazers (-4.5)

If you are not fond of the studs in the next game, you should be fond of Damian Lillard in an elite game environment. Despite the acquisition of Rudy Gobert, Minnesota ranks 19th in the NBA in defensive rating. Moreover, they rank 27th against primary ball handlers. If that wasn’t enough for Lillard, Minnesota ranks 29th in three-point percentage allowed and 27th in three-pointers allowed per game. Over his last two games, Lillard has posted 30 or more points each time. He has averaged 38 points per game, chipping in 10 assists per night during that span as well. The shooting efficiency can always be an issue, but Lillard has attempted a whopping 28 three-pointers over his last two.

Boston Celtics @ Los Angeles Clippers (+3.5)

Boston Celtics (-3.5)

In the absence of both Al Horford and Robert Williams III, the trio of Tatum, Brown, and Smart will be tasked with heavy minutes tonight. First, Tatum has the highest ceiling of the three, but is tough to fit in builds on this NBA slate. If you can, do so with confidence. Second, Brown has been one of the best shooting guards in the league this season. A model of consistency, Brown has scored 20 or more points in 23 of 25 appearances this season. Moreover, he is second on the team in usage rate at 31.2% while averaging 26.8/7.2/3.6 on 50.1% shooting. Lastly, Smart has a safe floor but low ceiling. He is in a great spot as a ball handler versus the Clippers and is easier to fit in midrange builds. Moreover, Smart has five or more assists in his last twelve games, averaging 13.7/3.3/8.2 on 49.2% shooting during that span.

Los Angeles Clippers (+3.5)

It might be time to finally deploy Kawhi Leonard with confidence on an NBA slate. This certainly won’t come with any risk, given that he has been in and out of the lineup since returning from a torn ACL. However, he has played 30 minutes in back-to-back appearances. Moreover, with Boston being without both Al Horford and Robert Williams III, a smaller Celtics lineup may force the Clippers to do the same, resulting in more rebounding opportunity for Leonard. If you’re uncertain of Leonard, then Paul George is one of the better targets in a thin Clippers offense. PG13 has averaged 32.5/7.5/6.5 on 48.9% shooting in his last two games and will be relied upon heavily tonight.

The NBA is back with another six teams in action tonight. Similarly to how we saw on Tuesday, strategy is key on small slates. It’s a Thirsty Thursday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

With only six teams in action tonight, a single injury or rotation change can alter the slate. Moreover, these are teams that have the most complicated injury reports in the league. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Miami Heat (OTB)

Los Angeles Clippers (OTB)

There is no way to analyze this rotation until we see the Clippers’ final injury report. Thankfully, this is the first game on the NBA slate. With so many players missing the front end of their back-to-back, LA can have a thin rotation tonight, depending on how the dominos fall. Both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, who played last night, are rest candidates, in addition to Reggie Jackson. Moreover, John Wall, Marcus Morris Sr., Norman Powell, and Luke Kennard all missed last night’s game. There will be plenty of value in this game, beginning with the Clippers.

Miami Heat (OTB)

Similarly to the Clippers, the final injury report for the Heat will dictate how the chips fall. The biggest domino of them all is the availability of Jimmy Butler, who is questionable due to conditioning. Should he miss a second straight game, Tyler Herro instantly becomes one of the most popular plays on the NBA slate. Herro has now posted 20 or more points in four straight contests, averaging 26.3/6.8/5.8 on 53.4% shooting through a 26.5% usage rate. The status of Jimmy Butler truly dictates how the Heat will look, which we’ll have to wait on.

Houston Rockets @ San Antonio Spurs (+2.5)

Houston Rockets (-2.5)

Should Kevin Porter Jr. miss this game, Jalen Green becomes one of the most enticing options on tonight’s NBA slate. While he has been inconsistent with his shot, Green faces a San Antonio defense that ranks 26th in the league versus combo guards. Moreover, Green leads the team in usage rate this season, but sees a drastic shift in production with KPJ off the floor. His usage rate climbs to 33.5% from 28.9%, while his fantasy points per minute increases from 0.99 to 1.13. Elsewhere, Alperen Sengun gets a friendly matchup versus a Spurs interior that ranks 25th in the league versus true centers. Moreover, the Spurs rank 29th in points allowed in the paint per game with over 54 allowed nightly.

San Antonio Spurs (+2.5)

Issues are piling up for the Spurs. Not only is their injury report ridiculously lengthly, but they are 1-16 in their last 17 games. However, they are a mere underdog in this matchup. Jakob Poeltl, Keita Bates-Diop, Jeremy Sochan, and Blake Wesley are all out. Meanwhile, Devin Vassell is doubtful to play. Thus, both Tre Jones and Keldon Johnson are in for a heavy workload on offense tonight, flanked by the likes of Doug McDermott and Josh Richardson. There is also potential value here with Isaiah Roby and the rest of their frontcourt. In summary, make sure to check our projections to see where the value lies because it is with the Spurs on tonight’s NBA slate.

Denver Nuggets @ Portland Trail Blazers (+1.5)

Denver Nuggets (-1.5)

While I hopefully talked you off on Nikola Jokic in their matchup versus Dallas, where he posted a mere 42 fantasy points, I’m hoping to talk you into him tonight. Now, this strategy is only feasible if the Spurs value grades out well in my projections. However, should it do so, the back and forth between Jokic and one of four Trail Blazers is the route to take on this NBA slate. Despite only being third on his team in usage rate at 26.5%, Jokic has the upside to dominate this matchup. Portland currently ranks 24th in the NBA against true centers. Moreover, Jusuf Nurkic and Jerami Grant have two of the worst defensive ratings amongst qualified players. If you choose to go the Keldon Johnson/Tre Jones route with Spurs exposure, then Aaron Gordon/Jamal Murray/Bones Hyland are the Nuggets you can look at.

Portland Trail Blazers (+1.5)

After missing seven games, Damian Lillard made his return to the lineup last game in a victory against Indiana. Lillard posted over 40 fantasy points in his return, but did shoot 7-for-16 from the field. However, he did make five three-pointers on ten attempts. Denver currently ranks 19th in the NBA in three-pointers allowed per game, while also ranking 20th in three-point percentage allowed. Similarly to the strategy described above with Jokic, should you choose the midrange route for Portland, then Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant are the targets. Specifically, Grant has posted 27 or more points in six straight games. During that span, Grant has averaged 32.2/2.8/3.7 on 47.7% shooting through a 32.6% usage rate.

Only six teams are in action tonight. However, there are plenty of NBA stars facing off against one another, while a few others have already been ruled out. It’s a Taco Tuesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

With only three games on tonight’s schedule, a single injury can alter the look of lineups. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

New York Knicks @ Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

New York Knicks (-3.5)

Despite what the Pistons final injury report looks like, the Knicks have an intriguing player in the midrange of the pricing grid. With 27 or more points in four straight games, including 30 or more in his last three, Jalen Brunson is carrying this offense. Through his last four appearances, Brunson has posted a 30.8/3.3/6.3 scoring line on 51.8% shooting through a team-leading 31.3% usage rate. The Pistons currently rank 27th in the NBA against primary ball handlers and have the league’s 29th ranked defense.

Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

There won’t be a confirmation on how to get exposure to the Pistons until their final injury report is released. With four of five starters currently listed as questionable, including all of whom missed their last game, the Pistons can either be a popular source of value or targets in the midrange. The Knicks currently rank 11th in the NBA in pace and 27th in defensive rating. Thus, this will be a game environment that is far from one to avoid.

Golden State Warriors @ Dallas Mavericks (+1.5)

Golden State Warriors (-1.5)

Obviously, Steph Curry is the primary target on this Warriors offense. Not only is Curry posting better numbers than his unanimous MVP season, but he is leading the team in usage rate and scoring, while being second in rebounds and assists. If you are not getting exposure to the Warriors with Curry, you need to be doing so elsewhere. On their current five-game winning streak, the Warriors support cast have been elite. Both Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins have averaged over 20 points per game on over 50% shooting. Moreover, Draymond Green has averaged 11.3/5/9 while logging 31 or more minutes in every game. The Mavericks are last in the NBA in pace, but the Warriors offense is in another great spot.

Dallas Mavericks (+1.5)

Outside of Luka Doncic, there is little to be excited about when it comes to the Mavericks’ fantasy outlook. Despite being on a four-game losing streak, Doncic has continued to dazzle. The NBA MVP candidate has posted a 28.8/7.3/9.5 scoring line on 53.2% shooting during that span. However, he has little support. Spencer Dinwiddie has a safe floor in this game environment, but other guards take priority of him; he is not a bad play by any means, but lacks upside. Christian Wood is another target given the lack of depth at the center position on this NBA slate. However, with the Warriors playing Green more at the ‘5’, Wood will have a tough time in the paint on both ends of the court. Nonetheless, the Mavericks will shift Dwight Powell to the bench quickly in favor of Christian Wood if they want to stay in this game, making the latter an intriguing target despite the tough matchup.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5)

Los Angeles Clippers (+2.5)

With the trio of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and John Wall all ruled out for tonight, there is plenty of value on this Clippers offense. Ivica Zubac is fresh off a ridiculous 31/29/3 game and gets a phenomenal matchup against Jusuf Nurkic, making him the popular option at the thin center position. He is in a good spot, but be wary of chasing another big game. Elsewhere, with both Wall and Kennard missing in the backcourt, the trio of Reggie Jackson, Terence Mann, and Norman Powell will get many looks on offense. While all three are volatile given their dependence on their scoring output, Mann has the safer floor of the trio due to his upside on the glass and with his ball handling.

Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5)

Damian Lillard is slated to miss another game with his injury. Thus, Portland should be one of the first rotations you go to on this NBA slate. With Justice Winslow replacing Shaedon Sharpe in the starting lineup, the bench is getting little to no minutes. Joining Winslow are Simons, Hart, Nurkic, and Grant. Of the four, Jerami Grant is the most intriguing. Yes, Anfernee Simons has the higher upside as the primary shooter, but Grant gets a friendly matchup versus a defense that ranks 28th in the NBA versus wings. Over his last five games, Grant has scored in double digits in every one, posting a 25.2/2.8/2.6 scoring line on 45.8% shooting. There should be interest in Nurkic, Simons, and Winslow as well in an overlooked game on a small slate.

Tonight’s NBA slate is one of the oddest the season has to offer. Not only are there only six teams in action, but all three games tipoff at 10pm EST. There are elite studs at the top of the pricing grid, while two of three games stick out above the other. It’s a Thirsty Thursday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

With only three games on the schedule tonight, a single injury can alter the outlook of the slate. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

San Antonio Spurs @ Sacramento Kings (-6.5)

San Antonio Spurs (+6.5)

If you are looking to build a more balanced lineup for tonight’s NBA slate, there are two Spurs to monitor. With the Kings ranked 28th in the NBA to wings, the duo of Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson are once again at the forefront. While I have been fond of Vassell’s game since his draft year, his point/dollar upside is limited given his reliance on scoring. Therefore, I prefer to target Keldon Johnson in this game. Leading the team with a 27.7% usage rate, Johnson is having a breakout campaign. Amidst the departure of Dejounte Murray in the offseason, Johnson has taken his offensive game to new heights. Not only is Johnson averaging a career high in points, but his efficiency has greatly improved. His 16.9 field goal attempts per game is also a career high, while still shooting 45.1% from the field. Moreover, Johnson is averaging nearly nine three-point attempts per game while shooting 42.3% from deep.

Sacramento Kings (-6.5)

Since I’ll be turning to the top of the pricing grid in the next game, I’ll recommend the Kings’ role players in this spot. The key to this will be the availability of Keegan Murray. The rookie left last game with a back injury and did not return. Should he be forced to miss tonight’s game, there are a trio of options to us. Kevin Huerter, Malik Monk, and Terence Davis will all see increased time should Murray sit out. While the field will likely chase Davis’ 31-point outburst from last game, this is a prime spot for Kevin Huerter. Huerter has now made four or more three-pointers in his last three games, shooting 52.6% from deep and is in a great matchup. The Spurs currently rank last in the NBA versus off-ball spot-up shooters. Moreover, the Spurs rank 29th in three-point percentage allowed and 22nd in three-pointers made per game.

Brooklyn Nets @ Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5)

Brooklyn Nets (+2.5)

After an embarrassing 32-point loss to the Kings on Tuesday, the Nets’ week has been filled with drama. Not only did the Nets get humiliated on the road, but Kevin Durant later questioned the talent of the team’s roster in a press conference. Considering Durant has never held anything back in the media before, this shouldn’t be all that surprising. However, he needs to come out and dominate this game more so than ever now. Despite the hefty price tag, there is no better bet than Durant leading the NBA slate in scoring. Whether he is optimal remains to be seen, but having the slate’s leading scorer in your lineups is never a bad thing. Simply put, there is no one on the Trail Blazers that can guard Durant.

Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5)

If you are looking for a back and forth in the best game on the NBA slate, Damian Lillard is an elite target. However, rostering both he and Durant severely limits your options with the remaining spots in your lineup. Thus, I want to highlight the duo of Jerami Grant and Anfernee Simons. Specifically, the former has been on a tear lately. Sporting a 27.4% usage rate during their last three games, Grant has posted a 31/7.3/2.3 scoring line on 56.1% shooting. Moreover, he has scored 27 or more points in all three games. Likewise, Simons has been producing well also. Simons is no slouch either, sporting a 26.5% usage rate and carrying a 23.3/4.3/3.3 scoring line on 38.9% shooting during the same span. With Simons having attempted a whopping 34 three-point attempts in his last three games, including ten or more in all three appearances, he has the ability to drastically alter this slate. The Nets currently rank 28th in the league in three-point percentage allowed and allow 13.5 three-pointers made per contest, good for 27th in the NBA.

Detroit Pistons @ Los Angeles Clippers (-9)

Detroit Pistons (+9)

Of the three games on tonight’s NBA schedule, this is far and away my least favorite. However, with Cade Cunningham set to miss a fourth consecutive game, there will be intrigue here. In the absence of Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and Bojan Bogdanovic have led the the team in usage at 28.6% and 27%, respectively. While Bogdanovic has led the team in scoring during that stretch, it is Ivey who has a better matchup tonight. With the Clippers ranked 25th in the league versus primary ball handlers, this has been a matchup we’ve picked on for the longest time. Ivey has posted a 19/3.7/5 scoring line on 42.9% shooting in his last three without Cunningham, making him the preferred target in this one.

Los Angeles Clippers (-9)

As mentioned above, this is my least favorite game of the three on tonight’s NBA slate. Thus, I have little intrigue in the Clippers offense. However, what can shake things up is the availability of Paul George. The Clippers star is currently questionable with a hand injury. Considering this is the team’s third game in four days, there is a serious chance he sits out tonight. Should that be the case, John Wall is an elite target in the mid range. Currently second on the team in usage rate at 28.2%, Wall has been efficient with his time on the court. It has been five straight games where Wall has scored in double digits, posting a 13.6/3.4/5.6 scoring line on 42.6% shooting. Additionally, the Pistons currently rank last in the NBA against primary handlers.

Despite only eight teams taking the court tonight, there is no shortage of intriguing storylines. There is plenty of star power available to us, but we’ll need value plays to get exposure to them. Luckily, five of eight teams are on back-to-backs, making this NBA slate one that can turn on a dime. It’s a Thirsty Thursday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

As mentioned above, five of eight teams are on the second half of a back-to-back. Injury reports will be interesting to monitor throughout the day. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Dallas Mavericks @ Washington Wizards (+4)

Dallas Mavericks (-4)

If you are able to fit Luka Doncic into your lineups without feeling uneasy about the remaining players, do it. A leading candidate to be a MVP this year, if not soon enough, Doncic has been simply outstanding this season. Sporting a league-high 39.5% usage rate on the year, no one carries their team’s offense the way Doncic does. Last night was the first time he hadn’t scored 30 or more points through his first ten games and it took a 9-for-29 shooting performance to do so. Averaging 34.8/8.2/8.1 on 49.8% shooting, there is no stronger candidate to lead the NBA slate in scoring.

Washington Wizards (+4)

With Bradley Beal in health and safety protocols, the Wizards offense will run through Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma. Unfortunately, with the Mavericks sitting dead last in the NBA in pace, there isn’t much appeal here. Monte Morris will form a trio with the others to log the bulk of the minutes in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, the bench unit will be led by Rui Hachimura, Will Barton, and Jordan Goodwin. With the Wizards sitting 26th in pace themselves, this is far and away the worst game environment on the slate and I won’t hesitate to fade it, outside of Luka Doncic.

Philadelphia 76ers @ Atlanta Hawks (-1.5)

Philadelphia 76ers (+1.5)

No doubt about it, Joel Embiid is the priority of the NBA slate not named Luka Doncic. Not only does he offer a sizeable advantage at a scarce position, but he is also in a premium spot. In his lone appearance without James Harden in the lineup this season, Embiid carried a lofty 37.4% usage rate while posting a 33/10/5 scoring line agains the Suns. Tonight, with the Hawks battling issues with their frontcourt, Embiid will not only aim to get Clint Capela in foul trouble, but consequently dominate Onyeka Okongwu on the inside.

Atlanta Hawks (-1.5)

With many options at the top of the pricing grid tonight, the duo of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray will likely find themselves behind the 8-ball. While Young carries a sizeable advantage in usage rate over his backcourt partner, it’s been Murray’s dominance on the glass and in the assist column that has been notable to his fantasy performances. Both have the ceiling to make this an interesting slate, but they’ll need to outscore the likes of Embiid, Lillard, and contend with Doncic. With the 76ers ranking 1st in the NBA versus opposing primary ball handlers, I’m likely out on Young, but I’ll provide an update on this offense in Discord, depending on how the slate shakes out closer to lock.

Portland Trail Blazers @ New Orleans Pelicans (-6.5)

Portland Trail Blazers (+6.5)

Missing Jusuf Nurkic (adductor), Jerami Grant (ankle), and Keon Johnson (hip) last night, the Trail Blazers’ injury report will be one to monitor leading up to lock. Additionally, Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons, and Josh Hart were all listed as probable ahead of last night’s matchup. Should everyone be healthy and available, Damian Lillard is in a prime spot as a pivot to Luka Doncic at the top of the pricing grid. With the Pelicans sitting 24th in the NBA to opposing primary ball handlers, Dame will be able to exploit to Pelicans backcourt on the offensive side of the ball. Sporting a 32% usage rate on the season, Lillard has posted a 29/4.5/4.8 scoring line on 47.7% shooting, including nearly four 3-pointers made per game.

New Orleans Pelicans (-6.5)

With few options at the center position tongiht aside from Joel Embiid, Jonas Valanciunas is an interesting target in tournaments. Surely, should Nurkic miss a second straight game, the field will flock to Drew Eubanks. However, should Nurkic return to the lineup, that won’t be the case. Either way, Valanciunas is in an elite matchup. His minutes have been inconsistent this season, but Valanciunas is averaging a 14.4/10.3 double-double in under 25 minutes per game. With the Blazers ranking 23rd in the NBA to opposing big men, including allowing Mason Plumlee to drop 16/12/4 on them last night, the Pelicans need to utilize Valanciunas on the inside early and often.

Honorable Mention:

  • Charlotte Hornets @ Miami Heat (-10)

After a day off yesterday, the majority of NBA teams are back in action tonight. While many players sat out on Monday night, most were for precautionary reasons. Now, with everyone having the day off yesterday, we’re likely to see healthy rotations tonight and consequently, a larger player pool. It’s a Wet Wednesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

With 26 of the league’s 30 teams in action tonight, the slate can change at any given time. Since everyone was off yesterday, some news has already trickled in while we await availability confirmation of some of the league’s best. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Portland Trail Blazers @ Charlotte Hornets (+5)

Portland Trail Blazers (-5)

We’ll have to wait until the final injury report comes out, but there is plenty to like about the Blazers offense in this one. With four of five starters listed as probable, we’re likely to see a healthy rotation here. However, this is the NBA, and anything can change in the blink of an eye. Even with the return of Damian Lillard last game, Anfernee Simons led the team in usage with a whopping 37.3% rate. Consequently, Simons led the team in both points and field goal attempts. With Terry Rozier having a team-worst 114.8 defensive rating, Simons can be an unrostered gem for us tonight.

Charlotte Hornets (+5)

With a slightly improved Portland defense remains a constant: Jusuf Nurkic is a defensive liability. The Trail Blazers have lacked interior defense for quite some time, and this season is no different. Specifically, Portland ranks 26th in the NBA to opposing small ball centers, which bodes well for PJ Washington. Having Mason Plumlee log 30 minutes or more in only two of eleven appearances, the Hornets are quick to shift Washington to the ‘5’ and use Jalen McDaniels in favor of Plumlee. In 6 games where he has logged 30 minutes or more, Washington has scored 17 points or in five of six.

New Orleans Pelicans @ Chicago Bulls (+2)

New Orleans Pelicans (-2)

If you are looking for an under-appreciated game stack on this NBA slate, this is it. Not only are there plenty of elite offensive options here, but no one is in the upper range of the pricing grid. With Zach Lavine presumably making his return, I’m looking at his matchup on the other side of the ball in Brandon Ingram. Since returning to the lineup, Ingram leads the team in usage rate at 28.4%. In those three games, Ingram has also led the team in minutes, scoring, assists, and field goal attempts. With a 7’3″ wingspan, Ingram has a notable advantage over Lavine off the ball and will be relied upon to create offense consistently.

Chicago Bulls (+2)

There are different ways to get exposure to this offense tonight. Firstly, Nikola Vucevic gets a favorable matchup with the Pelicans ranking 21st in the NBA in points allowed in the paint per game. As a result of Jonas Valanciunas playing less in favor of Zion Williamson at the ‘5’ and Trey Murphy III checking in to help the team’s perimeter defense, New Orleans is weaker on the inside down the stretch. Second, is none other than Zach Lavine, who we discussed above. Ideally, you want to avoid DeMar DeRozan lining up on Herbert Jones, leaving Lavine to get the switches he loves in an isolation offense to get off Ingram and onto CJ McCollum, who has a 112.8 defensive rating. Lastly, the Bulls’ bench unit of Goran Dragic, Javonte Green, and Alex Caruso will dominate the Pelicans’ bench unit, but minutes will be limited, capping their upside.

Memphis Grizzlies @ San Antonio Spurs (+6)

Memphis Grizzlies (-6)

Should Steven Adams (ankle) miss a second straight game, the Grizzlies rotation gets awfully thin. Thus, Ja Morant is in a prime spot to be a surprising contender to lead the NBA slate in scoring. With most presumably flocking to Giannis Antetokounmpo if Jrue Holiday (ankle) misses their game versus OKC, Morant will be rostered at a lower rate than he should be. Not only does the matchup against a Spurs team that ranks 26th versus primary ball handlers entice us, but the game environment does. The Spurs are shockingly 3rd in the league in pace while sitting dead last in defensive rating. This is truly an elite game environment, and Morant’s upside will be on full display. Coming into tonight with a 28.5/5.7/7.1 scoring line through a 36.2% usage rate on 47.5% shooting, including 45.7% from deep, Morant can alter this slate in a massive way.

San Antonio Spurs (+6)

Despite this being a mismatch on paper, Vegas has this game staying close. Not only do I agree because of how surprisingly good the Spurs have performed, but because of how inconsistent the Grizzlies have been. Forever known for their defense, Memphis sits 23rd in the NBA in defensive rating. Notably, the Grizzlies have been exposed in the backcourt. With Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Dillon Brooks all carrying defensive ratings of 114 or worse, there is plenty to like here. Both Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell make for excellent plays on this slate. The two have the benefit of the matchups detailed above on the wing and in the backcourt, respectively. Leading the team with usages rates of 27.5% and 25.3%, respectively, Johnson and Vassell have combined for 44.5 PPG on over 32 field goal attempts per game.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Denver Nuggets @ Indiana Pacers (+5.5)
  • Utah Jazz @ Atlanta Hawks (-4)

Back to a full set of games on this beautiful Wednesday. Multiple teams are on back-to-backs tonight, making some scenarios particularly interesting. Additionally, some elite game environments are on this NBA slate, especially in the Western Conference. It’s a Wet Wednesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Eleven games are on tap tonight, meaning there will be plenty of injury news to follow. Some players have already been ruled out, but with multiple back-to-backs on this slate, there will be more to follow. Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Charlotte Hornets @ Chicago Bulls (-5.5)

Charlotte Hornets (+5.5)

With LaMelo Ball (ankle) out and Terry Rozier (ankle) doubtful to play, the Hornets are a primary source of mid range value on tonight’s NBA slate. With the Bulls’ struggles against three-point shooting and on the wing, Kelly Oubre Jr. fits this matchup to a tee. Leading the team with a 26.7% usage rate with Rozier out of the lineup, Oubre Jr. has posted a 17.4/5.6/1.6 scoring line on 38.8% shooting. Additionally, he leads the team with 2.6 three-pointers made per contest during that stretch on nearly eight attempts per night. Should value be scarce on this NBA slate, Oubre Jr. will be a popular option in an elite game environment.

Chicago Bulls (-5.5)

On the second half of a back-to-back, the Bulls are in an elite game environment. Zach Lavine (rest) has already been ruled out for this one, meaning DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic will carry the load on offense. In three games without Lavine this season, DeRozan carries a team-high 32% usage rate. Leading the charge with a remarkable 34/4.3/5.3 scoring line on 55.4% shooting in these same three games, DeRozan has a cakewalk of a matchup versus Gordon Hayward on the wing, who carries a 113.6 defensive rating.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Portland Trail Blazers (+4)

Memphis Grizzlies (-4)

Even if Desmond Bane (ankle) returns to the lineup tonight, it’s all systems go on Ja Morant. On a large NBA slate with plenty of studs, it’s Morant who finds himself in the best matchup in the best game environment. With Damian Lillard (calf) ruled out for tonight’s contest, Morant will be lined up on Anfernee Simons, who carries a 113.5 defensive rating. Coming into tonight, Morant has averaged 33.3/4.5/6.3 on 55% shooting while carrying a 34.8% usage rate. With 20 or more points in all six games he’s played this season, including 30 or more in four of six, Morant is one of the best options at the top of the pricing grid.

Portland Trail Blazers (+4)

A ridiculed offseason had most believing the Trail Blazers were destined for the draft lottery, potentially losing Damian Lillard in the process. Now six games into their NBA season, Portland sits atop the Western Conference at 5-1 and have the second-best record in the league. Tonight, they face a Memphis team that ranks last in defensive rating. With Lillard (calf) missing this one, look for Anfernee Simons to carry the load on offense. In his lone appearance with Lillard out of the lineup, Simons dropped 30/5/7 on the Rockets, finishing second on the team with a 27.1% usage rate. While Ja Morant is a tremendous offensive talent, he ranks as one of the worst defenders in the league with a 122 defensive rating, paving the way for a backcourt of Simons and Sharpe to do significant damage.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Sacramento Kings @ Miami Heat (-6.5)
  • New Orleans Pelicans @ LA Lakers (+3.5)

Day twenty-six of the Cash with Flash 30 Day Challenge is here and Flash was unable to do a video on Sunday morning. He did, however, leave us with a pick for day 26.

Indiana Pacers +1 over the Portland Trail Blazers

Indiana has been playing exceptional ball on the road this season and has won four of its last five road games. Sunday ends a five-game road trip for Indiana and they up against a Portland Trail Blazers team with a red-hot Damian Lillard who has scored 108 points over the last two games. Portland will likely miss C.J. McCollum with an ankle injury and that is going to hurt them against the tenth best defense of the Pacers. Cash with Flash by taking the point and playing the Pacers to cover tonight.

Good luck and don’t forget to follow us on social media and tweet us your picks to be included in this contest.
