Whether you are playing cash games or GPPs, there is value all across the board. Make sure you focus on using the best players with the highest projected ceilings, especially in GPPs. You will find all the best picks for NFL DFS Week 9 here.

I review them in the video above, but if you need a quick-hitting list here are some players that I am buying for my lineups. They include Jaylen Samuels, Dalvin Cook, Christian McCaffery, Jack Doyle, Josh Jacobs, Jarvis Landry, Jameis Winston, and Chris Godwin. Also, be sure to fade the Derek Carr chalk! Get ready for DraftKings in Week 9!

Also, keep in mind Marvin Jones is $6,000 versus a very bad Oakland secondary. The Raiders have allowed the most passing plays of 20 yards or more (35) on the slate, and rank sixth-worst in sacks on the quarterback. He is a great value play in DFS Week 9.

Be sure to also check out Monkey Knife Fight. Some of my favorite prop bets for this upcoming slate are Derek Carr under 265.5 passing yards, Josh Jacobs over 14.5 fantasy points, and Matthew Stafford over 20.5 fantasy points. And that is just naming a few of my favorites! Of course, you cannot forget the Jack Doyle reception prop at 3.5 receptions. Time to smash the over on that one!

NFL DFS Week 9 Contrarian Plays

Contrarian picks are important to winning DFS contests. One or two low owned plays that outscore a more chalky player could be all that is needed for a takedown. With the right balance of core plays and contrarian plays, a lineup is more suited for success. Read about my Week 9 NFL DFS plays below and DFS pros core players here.

Week 9 NFL DFS Quarterbacks and Game Stacks:

Sam Darnold: Jets vs Dolphins (5,900 DK)

Darnold has been nothing short of terrible over the last few weeks and has now picked up a thumb injury. None of that matters with a matchup against the lifeless Dolphins, now missing their top corner. Mason Rudolph shredded these same Dolphins on Monday Night Football to the tune of 251 yards and two touchdowns. The Dolphins are worst in the league against passes traveling over 20 yards, which makes a stack with Robby Anderson very enticing. Bringing it back with Parker or Walton is a bold DFS strategy that could pay off.

Matt Stafford: Lions vs Raiders (6,800 DK)

Matt Stafford has had at least 24 DK points in three of the last 4 weeks and has a date with the Oakland Raiders in Week 9. Over the last month, The Raiders are worst in the league against quarterbacks, giving up 29 fantasy points per game. I prefer stacking him with at least one of Jones, Golladay or Hockenson and bringing it back with Jacobs, Williams or Waller.

Week 9 NFL DFS Running Back Plays

Melvin Gordon (5,000 DK)

Melvin Gordon has so far been a disappointment, to say the least. Last week he ran for his first touchdown of this season and the party should continue against Green Bay. The Packers have given up an average of 28 fantasy points per game to running backs and have been a matchup to target all season.

Josh Jacobs (6,500 DK)

Jacobs has at least 19 touches in three of the last four games he’s played in, giving him a secure role. This week he gets to play against the worst defense in the league against Running Backs. Detroit gives up an average of 32.5 fantasy points per game to the position, setting up Jacobs to feast in what should be a close matchup.

Week 9 NFL DFS Wide Receiver Plays

Allen Robinson (6,800 DK)

Allen Robinson has been targeted at least 7 times a game, every week for the last month, reaching 16 once in that span. He’s been used as the undisputed alpha receiver in this offense and a blow-up game is coming. In Week 9, Robinson gets to face off against the pitiful Eagles secondary, who seems to have gotten burned by everyone. The Eagles have been the second-worst team in the league against wide receivers, giving up an average of 42 fantasy points per game. This is the time to buy on Allen Robinson.

Tyreek Hill (7,400 DK)

Hill has yet to have a Tyreek Hill blowup game this season and most don’t expect it to happen against the Vikings. While this seems like a bad matchup on paper, The Vikings are actually ranked in the top 11 on both passes 0-9 and 20+ from the line of scrimmage. Teams have had success 12.7% of the time on deep throws against the Vikings, setting up Hill to have a good game at low ownership.

Week 9 Tight End Plays:

Greg Olsen (3,500 DK)

Olsen hasn’t been very good over the last few weeks, letting his price drop all the way to 3,500. He has gotten more than two targets only twice over the last month and could be a risky play. The Titans have given up the 12th most points to the tight end position in 2019 with an average of 12 fantasy points per game. They’re also tied for third in the league for most touchdowns to the Tight End position.

Chris Herndon (4,000 DK)

Herndon has yet to play in a game this year so this is a bit of a leap of faith. Darnold often targets the middle of the field, which is where Herndon thrives. Last Week, backup tight end Ryan Griffin was targeted 4 times and even more is expected for Herndon. The Dolphins are barely an NFL team and Herndon is a cheap way to get exposure to this matchup.

NFL DFS Week 9 GPP Picks Of Destiny from DFS Pro David Jones

Quarterbacks:

Stud Quarterback: Matthew Stafford ($7,900 FD)

I don’t typically like Stafford on the road, but the matchup is just too good. The Raiders are tied with the Falcons for second most receiving touchdowns given up this year. They have allowed 285 yards per game to wideouts. They also average a very high 8.6 yards per catch allowed. Stafford has been sharp lately, throwing seven touchdowns in the last two games. Factor in that the Lions run game does not exist, so the Detroit coaching staff is going to ask Stafford to do more with his arm. We could see another three touchdown game out of Stafford and I wouldn’t be surprised. Make sure to stack him with one of his receiving options in your NFL DFS contests.

Stud Pivots: Aaron Rodgers, Jameis Winston (He does have the two highest priced receivers on the slate, that’s a good sign), Kirk Cousins, Josh Allen

Value Quarterback: Mitchell Trubisky ($6,500 FD)

Here we go… This guy is getting absolutely trashed for a bad game last week. They are literally burning his jersey in the street in Chicago. This is a massive overreaction in my opinion. The Bears are not going to bench Trubisky, in fact quite the opposite. They are going to let this guy get through the good times and the bad times on the field. I know that Coach Nagy has commented that Trubisky needs to figure it out fast or they will have to make some tough decisions, but I am not that worried. Trubisky is feeling the heat this week and if he ever needs to bust out of a slump it is this Sunday. So why do I like him? His price is way too low for starters. He also gets to go against one of the worst pass defenses in the league in the Eagles.

Two games ago Trubisky put up 251 yards and two touchdowns against a stout Saints defense. Two games before that’s he threw for three touchdowns against the Redskins. He can produce. Just because he didn’t find the end zone last week are we supposed to think he will never throw a touchdown again? Of course not. He has capable receivers in Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Taylor Gabriel and even Tarik Cohen. Is this a safe play? No, it is not. Is it a great GPP play? Yes, it is! If Mitchell can get us 20 points (I think he does) then we are in prime position to make big bucks in NFL DFS this Sunday.

Value QB Pivots: Derek Carr

Running Backs

Stud RB: Christian McCaffrey ($9,700 FD)

Do I even need to write this guy up? He just put up 25 FanDuel points on the one of, if not the best, defenses in the league. He is basically the entire offense and I think he wins MVP this year (sorry Russell Wilson). He will get all the rush attempts he can handle and also be targeted like a WR1. The Titans have a decent defense, but not anywhere close to what he just faced in San Fransisco. CMC already has 10 touchdowns in just seven games. He is the number one running back you should target every week in NFL DFS.

Stud Pivots: Dalvin Cook (LOVE HIM vs KC, RB1B this week to CMC), Nick Chubb

Mid RB: Derrick Henry ($6,800 FD)

The Carolina Panthers have given up a league high 12 rushing touchdowns this season (Tevin Coleman helped boost that number last Sunday). Derrick Henry does not split time and is an absolute monster when he gets the ball. He should be the first guy the Titans give the pigskin to in the Red Zone and I don’t think the Panthers are going to be able to stop him. I am predicting Henry for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. At $6,800 on FanDuel he is a NFL DFS bargain.

UPDATE: Lock in Jaylen Samuels at $5,000 on FD

Pivots: Le’Veon Bell, Austin Ekeler, Jordan Howard

Note: Phillip Lindsay popped up with wrist injury, so if he were to miss the game Royce Freeman is a good play

Note: Aaron Jones has a shoulder injury, if he is out lock in Jamaal Williams

Wide Receiver

Stud WR: Chris Godwin ($8,200 FD)

He has an elite matchup against a bad Seattle secondary. Last week he let us down, but still had eight points (which doesn’t kill you in cash games). The three weeks before that he got 20, 28, 35 FanDuel points and won a lot of us a lot of money. Jameis Winston should have to throw it here (because I expect them to be playing from behind) and the NFL DFS sites have adjusted the Bucs receivers accordingly. This week Chris Godwin leads the Bucs receiving core with over 100 yards and a touchdown. He has not had two consecutive games under ten fantasy points this year and I don’t expect that trend to end against the Seahawks, who give up and average of 273 receiving yards a game.

Stud Pivots: Mike Evans, Kenny Golladay, Tyler Lockett

Mid WR: Allen Robinson ($7,200 FD)

He is far and away the number one offensive option for the Bears. He has not been targeted under seven times the entire season. I would lock him in cash games and play him in GPPs for his high ceiling against the terrible Eagles defense. They tried to make trades to improve their corners on Tuesday but couldn’t get anyone to bite, which means they are going to be bad the rest of the season. With Mitchell Tribusky feeling the heat in Chicago he is going to highly target his best guy. Love him in NFL DFS this week.

Mid WR Pivots: Alshon Jeffrey, Tyrell Williams, Robby Anderson, John Brown

Value WR: Robby Anderson ($6,200 FD)

It feels like a Robby Anderson week. I called the last one on the Win Daily podcast and I am doing it again here. The South Florida native returns to Miami as the number one deep threat for the New York Jets. We all know the Dolphins are the worst defense in the league and targeting them every single week has worked all season, so why would we stop now? The was to attack them is through the air, not so much on the ground. Robby is a boom or bust guy and could have a bad game if Sam Darnold sees any more spooky ghosts on the field, however I think he can man up and launch a few deep to Anderson against a team that literally wants to lose. I will punt Anderson at a “friends and family” game in Miami in my NFL DFS lineups.

Value WR Pivots: DeVante Parker

Tight End

Tight End:

Darren Waller ($6,800 FD)

He is the most targeted tight end in the NFL and gets a nice matchup against the Lions (ranked 23rd against the TE) at home. He is extraordinarly safe with high upside.

Tight End Pivots: Hunter Henry, T.J. Hockenson, Cameron Brate (if OJ Howard out)

Defense

Bills
Colts (would like clarification on Steelers RB injuries before I lock them in)
Browns (they are not good, but they get to face Brandon Allen at QB)
Vikings
Broncos

Matt Stafford is my favorite quarterback this week so of course I think he gets over 300 yards here (See my write up above). I know Carr has been efficient this season but 275 is a tall order for a guy I don’t have much trust in. This could change is Josh Jacobs is ruled out (because he will be forced to throw more), but until that news breaks I am sticking with this as my MKF pick.

Welcome to NFL Week Eight’s Edition of Season Long Start ‘Em and Sit ‘Em. Rather than focus on obvious picks, the goal is to identify some fringe starters that you may consider and some regulars that you may want to sit.

NFL Week Eight – Quarterbacks to Start

Ryan Tannehill – Tennessee Titans – If you need to fill a quarterback spot this week, you can do worse than Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill will have an awesome matchup with the Buccaneers who have allowed the seventh highest amount of fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season.

Teddy Bridgewater – New Orleans Saints- This should be Teddy Bridgewater’s last start with a bye ahead and Drew Brees expected to return after that. Following some difficult games, including a trip to Chicago last week, the Saints get a juicy matchup with Arizona.

NFL Week Eight – Quarterback to Sit

Carson Wentz – Philadelphia Eagles- The Bills secondary has been no joke this season. This will be a difficult road trip for the Eagles and it seems far from an optimal spot for Carson Wentz and the passing game.

NFL Week Eight – Running Backs to Start

Jamaal Williams – Green Bay Packers- Jamal Williams work in the passing game has earned him standalone value outside of Aaron Jones weekly status. This week’s matchup at Arrowhead provides plenty of upside in a game I’d expect the Packers to win.

Carlos Hyde – Houston Texans – Carlos Hyde bombed out last week. However, game script suggests he should bounce back this week versus the Raiders.

Ty Johnson – Detroit Lions – You didn’t snatch him off of waivers only to sit him this week versus the Giants. He should already slide into lineups in front of many disappointing players drafted with high round picks.

NFL Week Eight – Running Backs to Sit

Nick Chubb – Cleveland Browns – The New England defense has continued to stifle it’s opponents. A one dimensional back, New England should be able to take both him and Odell Beckham, Jr. out of the game with added focus.

Melvin Gordon – Los Angeles Chargers – Aside from the big game allowed to Josh Jacobs a couple of weeks back, the Bears defense has been stout against the run. Melvin Gordon doesn’t look right and I’d rather acknowledge that this draft pick did not work out then roster him during such a critical week.

NFL Week Eight – Wide Receivers to Start

D.J. Chark – Jacksonville Jaguars – The Jets are underrated against the run, but very suspect against the pass. This seems like a potential ceiling game for D.J. Chark, who will be looking to cement his status as a rising star in the NFL.

Kenny Stills – Houston Texans – Still available on many waiver wires, Kenny Stills looked very comfortable replacing Will Fuller as Houston’s deep threat. Just two weeks ago, we saw the slate-breaking upside that this role provides. For whatever it’s worth, I will probably be starting him over Melvin Gordon in a flex spot.

NFL Week Eight – Wide Receivers to Sit

Alshon Jeffrey – Philadelphia Eagles – As mentioned above under Carson Wentz, I want no part of the Eagles passing game this week. The only one I would probably start is Ertz as there are few alternatives at tight end readily available which would be better.

Mohamed Sanu – New England Patriots – All early indications are that he will play in some capacity this week. However, it might be wise to temper expectations while he learns the offense and carves out his role, at least in season long leagues. By next week you can fire him up but I’d suggest sitting this one out if possible.

NFL Week Eight – Tight End to Start

Vance McDonald – Pittsburgh Steelers – Available in half of fantasy leagues to start the week off, grab him if you can and plug him in for the spot start.

NFL Week Eight – Tight End to Sit

Greg Olsen – Carolina Panthers – Between the Panther’s quarterback situation, the status of everyone outside of Christian McCaffrey in this offense, and the difficult matchup, this is a hard pass.

NFL Week Eight – Defense to Start

Indianapolis Colts – The Colts have been solid but not spectacular. That said, the defense has the chance to have a huge game in the dome against the ghost of Joe Flacco and Denver’s abysmal offense.

NFL Week Eight – Defense to Sit

Green Bay Packers – But Pat Mahomes is out!? This streaming option still doesn’t carry the weight of some of the others. The Packers defense while solid has not made many big plays. The Chiefs still have a lot of weapons at their disposal, particularly in the short game. This should make Matt Moore’s life easier than in most situations where a backup option replaces a top quarterback.
