Win Daily Show Interview with Vin Pensabene

Michael Rasile is joined for an Interview with Vin Pensabene on this episode of the Win Daily Show Interviews. Vin has been a writer with Win Daily for over a year and has been producing for us at a high level.

Vin has the same mindset as many of the writers and content creators here of spreading positivity and helping others. Michael and Vin dive into Vin’s career and how he got started in writing about sports and fantasy sports.

Throughout this interview with Vin we learn about his writing career and how he has always been looking for more ways to get better at what he does. By writing about other topics, continuously reading, and analyzing his work, he’s been able to create a style that works for him and an expertise that works for the Win Daily team.

In this Interview with Vin, we find how he has carved out a niche here at Win Daily discussing the “Winners” from the night before. This has gone through some transition over the last year in how he’s done it. Originally, it started out as talking about what players did well and what they did. And he even says, it got boring talking about Aaron Judge every night. This then became talking about DFS players and the players on the Win Daily team. He would break down their lineups and see who they picked, why they picked them, and how they were able to succeed that night. This has allowed for more education to impart on our user base and show everybody how great Javi is at all of these sports!

He has been able to write for multiple publications along his career and even found a love for writing about high school sports. Through sharing stories of young atheltes, Vin has been able to inspire others.

NBA DFS Game Breakdowns: Three is a Magic Number

With only three games on the 10/30 NBA slate, the duo talks about the challenges facing the Hawks and Nuggets on the second game of back-to-backs. Trae Young is off to an awesome start, but does consecutive games get the best of him? The long-awaited debut of Jimmy Butler with the Heat is also tonight, but it also means there will be players on the Miami roster who will see their DFS value take a hit.

Is Nikola Jokic a viable option? The Nuggets C has a big salary, but his shooting has struggled early. Is this a night where he rebounds or is it best to avoid him?

The Grizzlies-Lakers NBA DFS will obviously be focused around the production of Anthony Davis and LeBron James. However, the performance of Memphis rookie PG Ja Morant has caught the attention of the hosts.

A Weak 9 of NFL DFS QB Play

Week 9 of the NFL season is lacking in can’t-miss matchups for quarterbacks. Javi and BCW lament on the challenges that will come but also point out the pivots who could be difference makers.

The art of playing DFS every day is a significant challenge. So how does one crush back-to-back GPPs? That is a very good question that this article here at Win Daily Sports hopefully will answer for you. It’s a recent tale of success we wanted to share with you from the DFS MLB season while we embark on the NFL schedule. After reading this recollection of a rare feat, you’ll want to follow our DFS Pros here every day..

You see, our founder at Win Daily Sports, Jason Mezrahi, recently did the impossible in the DFS world by placing second on August 24th in the FanDuel Saturday MLB Monster, and followed up the next night by taking down first place in the same contest. So with NFL season here, and the simple fact the Jason has won nearly a half million dollars playing DFS, we at Win Daily Sports this would be a great story to share. Below are Jason’s insights in his own words.

Saturday August 24th: The DFS near miss

Saturday’s 10k MLB Monster at FanDuel is alwaysa fickle beast that has its ups and downs with very little in the way ofconsistency. It seems that when you nail your pitching, your hitting will letyou down, or vice-versa. But on this day, I was feeling pretty good. You see,Monday through Friday I am so busy running a consulting business, along withthis business helping others, that it barely leaves much time on the plate formyself. Now factor in I have a newborn child, which any of you parents outthere already know is a full-time job. Anyway, on this Saturday night my wifedecided to take a long walk with my daughter and her mother, which left me witha few hours to myself. A rare occurrence. So, I did what any DFS player woulddo, especially a member of Win Daily Sports, and locked myself in my office andgot to grinding.

After about an hour of research I knew I wanted to stack the Twins, along with the Astros. I was confident the Twins would win the game in a soft matchup versus a Detroit team I have been picking on all year. I also found the value for Kyle Gibson at $7,900 was too good to be true facing a Tigers team with such high strikeout upside. From there the Minnesota stack was in full play, starting with their lefties. The one player I felt I had to spend up on was Max Kepler, in order to make sure I could afford the high price tag I also inserted a near minimum salary player into my lineup in the form of Jake Cave for $2,100. Cave had been swinging a hot bat at the time and he was in a great spot for the price.

To further enhance the upside of my lineup, and keeping with my stack, even though the split was not in his favor, I went with Miguel Sano at third base. He was a low $3,500 and he fit well with my Astros stack since Alex Bregman slid over to SS, leaving the third base spot ineligible from the Astros standpoint. Next the Astros stack itself. I started the stack with Bregman, who ended up netting me 31.7 fantasy points, along with Jose Altuve (24.4), Yuri Gurriel (12), and a George Springer letdown that cost me first place, netting me a low three fantasy points. I went with a 4-3-1 stack with four Astros, three Twins, and Tyler Naquin from the Indians at the minimum salary. The result was a strong second place finish netting me 205.6 total points, falling just 13 points short of first place for $10,000, and a nice Win Daily Sports victory.

Sunday August 25th: The taste of sweet DFS victory

Coming off a strong second-place finish on Saturday night, and 10k win, I felt confident rolling into Sunday’s slate. After all, MLB is about stacking and finding the right one. The previous night I had done a podcast which afforded me the luxury of getting an early jump on the Sunday action, and had me well prepared for the day. I had planned a trip to Manhattan to celebrate my anniversary with my wife on this day, which included a massage, and lunch, so I honestly was not even sure I would have the time to put in a lineup. Then the DFS gods shined upon me and my wife had to go out for about an hour, so here was my opening.

Making lineups comes easily for me and I can make a lineup in about three minutes that I feel completely confident in, while at the same time spending three hours and hating the finished product. Remembering my podcast, I knew I was locking in Aaron Nola in a cake matchup facing a Marlins team struggling against, well everyone. It seemed to me Nola had the highest upside on the slate, so he was locked and loaded.

Next up, the stacks. I knew it would be tough sledding in Houston, which I had pegged as the number one stack. But still, I had to try and find a way to make it work. The key was value, and I found it in Josh Reddick at $2,400, coming in at a nice low 5.5% ownership while netting me 22.7 fantasy points. Next I looked at one of the hottest teams in MLB to pair with the Astros, the St. Louis Cardinals. My favorite thing about these Cardinals was they were all coming in at a fair price, and I knew the ownership would be low. I locked in Matt Carpenter at $2,700 who was 9% owned, Tommy Edman at $2,700 (11% owned), Harrison Bader at an incredible value at $2,200 (5.5% owned), and Paul Goldschmidt at a bargain $3,500.

Unfortunately, or at least it felt that way at the time, I was unable to complete the 4-4 Astros/Cardinals stack, leaving me with an empty utility spot. I ended up going with the hot and power hitting Reyes at $2,500. With maybe 30 minutes to make this lineup, and a whole day planned in NYC, I locked it in, leaving my house and never looking back.

About three hours into the long Sunday slate I decided to check my lineup only to find Houston was off to a slow start while the Cardinals game was in a delay and started late. It often seems to me if I unglue myself from my phone, my lineups do better, so I dedicated the day to my wife and proceeded to our lunch, and massages. It would be dinner time before I checked again. Later that evening I found the time to check my lineup, I then looked up at my wife, told her I had another anniversary surprise for her, and showed her the screenshot. Another Win Daily Sports victory in the books! I won by 35 fantasy points.

**Kevin Na and Ryan Moore WD**

Players priced between $12,000 and $9,000

Rory McIlroy – $11,600
I don’t think I need to go into too much detail here. Top Five in every stat except one, major history, he’s 10th. Vegas’ odds on favorite and I do not believe the pressure of playing at home will affect him. (Projected Ownership – 18%)

Brooks Koepka – $11,400
After the U.S. Open, I’m buying into the idea that Koepka plays for the majors. At this point I think it’s foolish not to play him in some capacity. Until this streak ends I’ll be riding Koepka for every major. It’s interesting to note that The Open Championship, has seen his worst finishes though. (PO – 12%)

Xander Schauffele – $9,500
I’m sure he doesn’t like to hear it, but he’s a mini Koepka. It won’t be until he wins a major that the title will drop. Always shows up in the biggest contests, despite form coming in. Like Brooks, I doubted his ability to turn it on when needed. No longer. (PO – 13%)

Patrick Cantlay – $9,000
Number four overall in my model. Cantlay is Top 15 in every stat. He played in the British Open last year and finished 12th. He’s been on a tear as of late, finishing 15th, 21st, 1st, 3rd, 3rd & 9th his last six tries. I’m expecting Cantlay to be one of the highest owned golfers if not the highest. (PO – 24%)

Players priced between $8,900 and $8,500

Adam Scott – $8,800
Scott might as well be an the older Cantlay or vice versa. Either way they’re evenly ranked in the model. Scott has more Open Championship history but doesn’t quite have the recent form as Cantlay. Don’t get me wrong, his recent form is great, 7th, 2nd, 8th and a 18th finish. Expect Scott to be almost as highly owned as Cantlay as well. (PO – 22%)

Matt Kuchar – $8,700
He might be evil, but I don’t care. Kuchar has been having his best season. He’s number two in my model this week, with both event history and recent form leading the way. Will most likely be a staple in cash games this week. (PO – 20%)

Hideki Matsuyama – $8,500
Three Top 20s in his last six attempts in the Open Championship. Six Top 25’s in his last six starts. You can probably pencil him in for a Top 20 and watch him climb the leaderboard on Sunday. (PO – 20%)

Players priced between $8,400 and $8,000

Henrik Stenson – $8,400
If you’ve read The Range article you saw Stenson as number one overall in strokes gained total. Even better than McIlroy, technically. Deadly accurate with his three wood off of the tee. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Stenson contend this week at the British Open. (PO – 20%)

Gary Woodland – $8,200
Woodland has a great stinger in his arsenal. What he doesn’t have is the greatest track record at the Open Championship. It hasn’t been terrible, just very up and down. Woodland has been playing well this season though. I don’t know if he wins this week but it eerily feels like the U.S. Open all over again. (PO – 8%)

Matt Wallace – $8,100
Wallace has been playing well, both on the PGA and Euro tour. Plays well at the majors, though he didn’t place well in his only attempt at the British Open. 11th on the Euro Tour in birdies and 39th in Tee to Green. I like Wallace as a lower owned golfer. (PO – 10%)

Louis Oosthuizen – $8,000
For some reason people do not like to play Oosthuizen for DFS. Actually I know why, he tends to pull himself out of the race early. He’s been known to withdraw after lock, burning lineups along the way. At $8,000 though he has decent recent form and a former winner, almost twice. Ill take the risk for the upside for this lower price tier. (PO – 8%)

Players priced between $7,900 and $7,500

Marc Leishman – $7,700
Price wise I feel this is the perfect spot for Leishman. Just a solid player with good event history and recent form. The 21st world ranked player by DataGolf standards. If things break his way, we could see Leishman atop the leader board come Sunday. (PO – 13%)

Webb Simpson – $7,600
Simpson comes in 8th on my overall model. He’s also the 8th ranked player in the world according to DGWR. Comes in with good form and solid major history. A complete game and if I could wager, my card would probably start with Simpson (65/1) for the Open Championship. (PO – 16%)

Matthew Fitzpatrick – $7,600
Fitzpatrick won’t be found on the model’s Top 50. He resides at number 64th overall. His lack of success at the British Open is whats holding him back right now. He has a 14th and a 2nd on the Euro Tour to go along with his 12th and 21st finish in the U.S. Open and Masters respectively. I believe his form and momentum are heading in the right direction. (PO – 7%)

Players priced between $7,400 and $7,000

Tyrrell Hatton – $7,400
Always a Twitter clip away from showing the world how funny he is or what a bonehead mistake he just made. Hatton is coming off of five made cuts on the PGA and a 14th place finish at last weeks Scottish Open. Rounding into form at the right time. Though if his ownership seems to be rising I might pivot elsewhere. (PO – 8%)

Hao-Tong Li – $7,300
Solid Open Championship history with two made cuts and a 3rd place finish. Two out of three made cuts on the Euro tour as well with two Top 15 finishes. Li is 1st in birdies, Top 10 in both Par 4 & 5 scoring and 9th in strokes gained off the tee on the Euro Tour. (PO – 5%)

Chez Reavie – $7,100
Is there a golfer with more disrespect than Reavie? Comes in making five out of the last seven cuts, including a win at the Travelers. Not to mention his 3rd and 15th place finish at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship respectively. He’s clearly priced wrong, DGWR has Reavie rated as the 23rd best golfer right now. I’ll have plenty this week. (PO – 7%)

Erik Van Rooyen – $7,100
Rooyen has better Vegas odds than 14 golfers above him in pricing. EVR played at the Open Championship last year and finished in 17th. Three Top 20s in his last six starts on the Euro Tour. He also has a 43rd and 8th in the last two majors in the U.S. Wiesberger might be playing really well, but he’s never fared well at the British open. I’ll take Rooyen and a fraction of the ownership over Wiesberger. (PO – 10%)

Players priced between $6,900 and $6,000

Andrew Putnam – $6,600
Will need to get it done with his approach and putting game to play on the weekend. No Open Championship history but did come in 4th at the Scottish Open last week. Been trending up in the last month or so. I think he keeps the arrow pointing up this week. (PO – 5%)

Lucas Glover – $6,500
If there was ever a play that I thought was a trap it’s Glover. Number 13 in my model this week, he’s Top 40 in every metric. He should be at LEAST another $1,000 more this week. It looks like a free space, feels like a trap. Becareful. (PO – 7%)

Andrea Pavan – $6,400
European Tour only, Pavan has been playing very well. In his last eight starts he has two Top 25, a 15th and two Top 5 on his resume. A flier only but I’ll take a chance. (PO – 2%)
