Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL DFS slate on Fanduel and DraftKings.  What was originally supposed to be a nice sized 9 game slate has turned into a smaller, but still fun 6 game slate thanks to some COVID postponements.  My goal here will be to provide you with a solid foundation for your lineup.

Win Daily Sports is proudly partnered with Monkey Knife Fight. MKF is offering you a FREE Win Daily Gold membership for three months ($150 value) simply for making your first deposit on Monkey Knife Fight. And if free gold isn’t attractive enough, they’re also offering a 100% match bonus up to $100 when you use promo code WINDAILY.

Before we dive in I want to highlight some terms you’ll see in my article that may be foreign to you:

  • Corsi – Any shot attempt (goals, shots on net, misses and blocks) outside of the shootout
  • Even Strength – Play where both teams have the same number of players (including goalies) on the ice. Includes 5v5, 4v4, 3v3
  • Power Play – Play where the team has more players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 5v4, 5v3, 4v3
  • Penalty Kill – Play where the team has fewer players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 4v5, 3v4, 3v5

Goaltending

Frederik Andersen ($8.2k DK/$7.9k FD) vs. Los Angeles Kings – Outside of the fact that the Hurricanes aren’t giving up much in the way of shots, I really like this spot tonight for Andersen.  The Kings just haven’t been scoring much over the past 2 weeks with a goals per game under 3.  The good news for is that even though the Hurricanes don’t give up much in the way of shots, the Kings do take a ton of shots.

My hope here is that the two teams meet somewhere in the middle and the Kings take enough shots to make paying more than $8k for Andersen worthwhile.  Before giving up 3 goals to Detroit on Thursday night, Andersen had been playing some stellar hockey as he had given up just 4 goals in his prior 3 games.  Look for him to get back on track tonight against the Kings.

Thatcher Demko ($7.5k DK/$7.3k FD) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs – This is far from a safe pick, but if we look past Auston Matthews tonight there’s not much else to love from the Maple Leafs.  Tavares is on the COVID list and was one of their leading scorers over the last 2 weeks.  Now you have your second line centered by David Kampf instead of Taveres which somewhat neutralizes William Nylander.

Toronto will not be sending out their best tonight and I’ll want to take advantage of it with a goalie that is playing some of his best hockey of the year.  Demko hasn’t scored under 17 DK points since late November and is becoming one of the more reliable goalies in the NHL.  He’s coming into tonight riding a 5 game winning streak.  While it’s always scary playing against the Leafs, Demko is playing great right now and should be in consideration when picking your goalie tonight.

I have little interest in any of the other goalies tonight so will be sticking with the two that I mentioned.

Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid/Puljujarvi/Foegele) + Nurse vs. Seattle Kraken

Going into their last game against Columbus I mentioned in our discord that this top line was due for some positive regression.  Boy did they deliver with 74 DK points between them.  This line has combined for 60 scoring chances over their last 5 games, with 27 of them being high danger chances.  Still, they’ve only scored 4 goals, 3 of which were scored by Puljujarvi the other night.

There’s still some more positive regression coming for them and I want to make sure I have them in my lineup when it happens.  Outside of McDavid this line is dirt cheap on DK.  Foegele is only $2.8K and Pulj is only $4.4k.  What if I told that you that of all the players available on tonight’s slate, only 2 have a higher iCF than Pulj over their last 5 games?    Over his last 5 games Pulj has a iCF of 36 with 25 scoring chances.  Him and McDavid are my priority here, but if you need the salary savings Foegele makes for a great value.

New Jersey 1 (Hughes/Zacha/Bratt) + Hamilton vs. Detroit Red Wings

Yes, I know that the Devils only have a 2.25 goal total coming into tonight’s slate.  Vegas has that wrong in my opinion.  Detroit has been a mess defensively of late.  Over the last 2 weeks they have a corsi % of 47.58%.  Only Ottawa has a worse %.  They’re also giving up 4.5 goals per game thanks to some subpar goaltending.  While the Devils aren’t one of the powerhouse offenses we think of in the NHL, they stand a strong chance of exploding tonight.

With this stack I’m going to focus on both Hughes and Zacha.  Both guys have combined for 38 scoring chances over their last 5 games, 18 of them high danger chances.  If you want to go for a full stack here I wouldn’t talk you off of Bratt. He’s also been solid of late with 4 points in his last 5 games.  This trio also plays together on the top power play unit for Jersey.  Look for the Devils to make Vegas look silly for the implied total tonight.

Ottawa 1 (Norris/Tkachuk/Batherson) + Chabot vs. Philadelphia Flyers

This game tonight has the makings of a 5-4 game as both goalies in this one are trash and neither team likes to play defense.  Well they may like to play it, but are just not good at it.  Both teams in this one have corsi %’s below 50.  Below 50 in the NHL is bad.  I’m siding with Ottawa in this matchup because the Senators offense has been pretty good of late, outside of their 2-1 loss to the Lightning.  Lightning > Flyers.

If we think Ottawa offense, we automatically go to their top line.  Their top line has been scoring at will of late and is one of the hottest lines in the NHL.  Drake Batherson has been red hot.  In his last 5 games he has 10 points.  His line mates haven’t been slouches either.  Both Norris and Tkachuk have combined for 9 goals in the last 5.  This line is rolling and I just can’t see the Flyers slowing them down.  Look for them to score often tonight.

Other stacks (Both top lines for Philly 2, Carolina 1 and 2, Van 2, Tor 1 (if you aren’t playing Demko), Det 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Darnell Nurse ($6.8k DK) – Edmonton Oilers – 6 shots + blocks in his last 5
  • Jacob Slavin ($5.3k) – Carolina Hurricanes – 5.2 shots + blocks in his last 5
  • Thomas Chabot ($5.9k) – Ottawa Senators
  • Quinn Hughes ($5.1k DK)  – Vancouver Canucks
  • Travis Sanheim ($3.1k DK) – Philadelphia Flyers – Great Value
  • Jonas Siegenthaler ( $2.6k DK) – New Jersey Devils – Playing on the top D unit, great value

Summary

More than ever, you’ll need to keep on top of news tonight.  Covid is running rampant in the NHL right now and we’re seeing scratches right up until games start.  I can’t preface this enough, make sure you have pivots ready to your lineups.  Games are getting postponed left and right.

With that all said, I anticipate this being a high scoring slate.  Only 4 of the teams playing tonight are giving up less than 3 goals a game over the last 2 weeks.  My preference in stacks are Edmonton, then Ottawa, then Jersey.  Between values like Foegele and then some of the Defenseman I listed in the Top Defenseman section, you should have no issue fitting top plays into your lineup tonight.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

We’re back with another Wednesday Night Win Daily NHL Article! We had a strong performance after the breakdown in yesterday’s article! Tonight we have a much smaller 3-gamer for tonight’s slate, with a clear top forward and defenseman to build around!!! So, let’s get ready for the newest edition of WinDaily’s Between the Benches! For tonight’s 12/15 NHL slate, the slate begins at 8:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get into it!

12/15 NHL Stack Report

  1. Washington Capitals 1
    Ovechkin – Kuznetsov – Protas (FanDuel: $19,800 | DraftKings: $20,400)
The Great Eight has been having another fantastic season as he currently sits tied for second in the league in goals this season behind Leon Draisaitl and fourth in NHL history for goals scored. Tonight, he is on a line with his Russian national teammate in Kuznetsov and rookie Protas, while Wilson is still out with an upper-body injury. Without Wilson, this line becomes much more affordable. Ovechkin is very likely the chalk of the slate and for good reason too. So, for cash games I would not steer away from this top line but you can look at Washington’s second line in GPP formats.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): John Carlson (FD: $6,400 | DK: $7,500)
  2. Anaheim Ducks 2
    Milano – Zegras – Rackell (FanDuel: $16,500 | DraftKings: $16,900)
It’s hard to ignore how this line have been playing, especially after their Michigan assist goal just a few days ago. This line has been on fire and against the Kraken, at home and against a goalie on the second half of a back-to-back. Its not hard to see the advantages that are very clearly in the Ducks favor tonight. The Ducks also hold the second-highest implied goal total on the slate at 3.1 and both Milano and Zegras are already past 20 points on the season and are in the top four in their team’s scoring charts. This line is very salary friendly and should perform very well tonight.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Kevin Shattenkirk (FD: $4,400 | DK: $4,100)

Honorable Mention(s): WSH 2 (Oshie, Backstrom, Sheary), CHI1 (Kane, Strome, DeBrincat)

12/15 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. John Gibson (FD: $7,600 | DK: $8,000)
  2. Ilya Samsonov (FD: $8,400 | DK: $8,200)
Honorable Mention: Keith Kinkaid (cheap, might let a couple through but should win tonight)

Worst (Goalies to Target)

  1. Philipp Grubauer (FD: $7,400 | DK: $7,200)

12/15 NHL Wild Card Targets

Phil Kessel (FD: $4,600 | DK: $5,700)
Phil the thrill is back to his scoring ways as of late with four points in his last five games. He has not been as prolific as he was during his time in Toronto but is still a cheap, top line forward against a very shaky goaltender in Kinkaid. I wouldn’t mind targeting against the Rangers tonight, especially in GPP formats since even though it is Arizona who has been one of if not the worst team in the league this season, they are up against a road Rangers team with goaltending issues, who also played on the road last night in a 4-2 loss against the Colorado Avalanche. The Rangers should still win but Phil Kessel has the ability to do some damage when you least expect it… a perfect Wild Card.
Honorable Mention(s): Aliakesi Protas

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Centre Trevor Zegras

Winger Alex Ovechkin

Defence Adam Fox

Goalie John Gibson

We’re back with a new Tuesday Night Win Daily NHL Article! Happy to have you today! There has been a lot of success in the chat so let’s hope that continues today! We have a HUGE 14-gamer for tonight’s slate, lots of different plays to look at!!! So, let’s get ready for the newest edition of WinDaily’s Between the Benches! For tonight’s 12/14 NHL slate, the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get into it!

12/14 NHL Stack Report

  1. San Jose Sharks 1
    Barabanov – Hertl – Meier (FanDuel: $20,300 | DraftKings: $14,300)
It’s not hard to see the upside in the Sharks tonight. They are truly a late hammer as their opponents have been really struggling as of late. The Kraken are on a three game losing steak and are among the leagues worst in goals allowed per game. The Kraken have had troubles with goaltending all season as their starter Philipp Grubauer has given up an average of 3.25 goals against per game with a save percentage of only .884. That’s not a great stat to have when you’re facing off against one of the leagues hottest players in Timo Meier who has registered 13 points over last ten games, all of which came in multipoint games. On the season, Meier leads the Sharks with 28 points in 23 games, his linemates are not far behind him at 20 points in 28 games for Hertl and 15 points in 23 games for Barabanov. Meier’s linemates make this line affordable for a large slate like this, especially on DraftKings. This will be the Sharks first appearance against the new franchise and based on the stats, they should put on quite the “late hammer” performance for their fans at home tonight.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Erik Karlsson (FD: $6,100 | DK: $5,800)
  2. Toronto Maple Leafs 1
    Bunting – Matthews – Kase (FanDuel: $20,400 | DraftKings: $18,200)
It’s hard to look at this slate and not talk about the monster matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers as two of the leagues hottest offenses are clashing in Edmonton tonight. Toronto has really heated up as of late winning 7 of their last 10 while the Oilers are coming into tonight on a five game skid. The Oilers current skid is in large part the responsibility of their shaky goaltending as the Oilers starting goaltender Mikko Koskinen is averaging 3.05 goals against per game. Their defense isnt helping much either as the Oilers are near the bottom of the league in shots allowed per game at 33.7 per game. Unsurprisingly, this game has one of the highest combined implied goal totals at 6.6 and tonight despite the sky high price I would recommend taking the Toronto side of this matchup, especially as Auston Matthews current point streak has extended to 9-games, where he has recorded a total of 16 points over that stretch. Toronto’s second line, led by John Tavares has also been performing very well as of late, so if you cannot fit in Matthews for salary reasons, Tavares is a solid backup option.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Morgan Rielly (FD: $6,400 | DK: $6,700)

    Honorable Mention(s): PIT1 (Kapanen-Crosby-Rodrigues), COL1 (Rantanen-MacKinnon-Burakovsky), EDM1 (Draisaitl-McDavid-Kassian), OTT1 (Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson)

(lots of games, lots of viable stacks)

12/14 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. James Reimer (FD: $7,200 | DK: $8,100)
  2. Frederik Andersen (FD: $7,700 | DK: $7,600)
Honorable Mention(s): Jack Campbell, Ilya Sorokin

Worst (Goalies to Target)

  1. Philipp Grubauer (FD: $6,900 | DK: $7,300)
Honorable Mention(s): Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Jake Allen

12/14 NHL Wild Card Targets

Paul Stastny (FD: $3,900 | DK: $2,600)
Paul Stastny is easily one of the best value plays of tonight’s slate. Not just because of his price and recent successes but also because he and the Jets are up against one of the worst defensive teams in the league in the Buffalo Sabres, who are currently starting backup goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen between the pipes who has yet to record a win over his first three NHL games. Luukkonen did not have great numbers in the AHL and is having a rather shaky start to his NHL career as he has contributed to the Sabres current 7 game losing streak. The Sabres also sit nearly dead last in the league in goals allowed and shots on goal allowed, while the Jets are coming into tonight with one of the highest implied totals on the slate at 3.8 and one of the best odds on the slate at -260. Stastny is coming into tonight with two points in his last three and sees time on Winnipeg’s second power play unit alongisde his linemate Nikolaj Ehlers. Stastny also pairs well with defenseman and value play Nate Schmidt. No matter what, I would recommend having some exposure to the Jets in this game.
Honorable Mention(s): Taylor Raddish, Kevin Hayes, Nino Niederreiter

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Centre Auston Matthews

Winger Timo Meier

Defence Thomas Chabot

Goalie James Reimer

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  I’m Jared and I’ll be your host.  Tonight we have a massive 11 game slate where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL slate on Fanduel and Draftkings.

Goaltending

Cam Talbot ($7.9k DK/$8.3k FD) vs. Los Angeles Kings – Love the spot tonight for Talbot if he gets the nod.  He’s been extremely solid during his recent stretch of hockey.  Over his last 7 starts he’s gotten to the 20 point DK mark 5 times.  During that stretch he’s played some extremely solid offenses in the Oilers and Maple Leafs.

Tonight’s match up against the Kings should be a much easier task.  Kings take a ton of shots but have a sub 10% shooting percentage.  Lots of shots + low shooting %  means high upside.  Talbot is my favorite goalie of the night.  Especially on DK where his price is below 8k.

Ilya Sorokin ($8k DK/$8.2k FD) vs. New Jersey Devils – Islanders are big favorites tonight against the Devils. Devils haven’t been scoring too many goals of late.  Over their last 7 games they’ve been scoring less than 3 goals per game while taking more than 30 shots per game.  That means there are some saves to be had against the Devils.  Sorokin has hit at least 30 saves in 6 out of his last 7 games.  He should make it 7 of 8 tonight against a team that lacks a solid scoring threat.

Tonight is another Saturday night where goaltending is a train wreck.  There are a ton of teams that are on the back end of back to backs tonight and that means we have mostly back up goalies, but at starting prices.  I will more than likely stick with Talbot and maybe use Sorokin.

Stacks

Washington 1 (Ovechkin/Kuznetsov/Wilson) + Carlson vs. Buffalo Sabres

When it comes to attacking specific teams, the Buffalo Sabres are almost at the very top of the list.  Sabres are currently riding a 6 game losing streak and tonight should make it 7.  Defensively, they are one of the worst in the business.  Over their current losing streak they are giving up an outstanding 4.5 goals per game.  That’s even after giving up just 2 to my Rangers last night.

I expect the Capitals to come out firing after losing a tough one to the Penguins last night.  With the Capitals it all starts with Ovechkin.  Yes, Ovechkin only has 1 goal over his last 5 games but he also has five helpers during that stretch.  He also has an insane iCF of 47.  On tonight’s slate only Pastrnak has a higher number.  Look for Ovechkin to explode out of his mini slump tonight.  You’ll want to make sure you pair him with at least Kuznetsov or Carlson.  They are expensive but are in a great spot tonight.

St. Louis 2 (Tarasenko/Buchnevich/Barbashev) + Scandella vs. Montreal Canadiens

In this game we have 2 teams going in opposite directions.  The Canadiens are 1-4-1 in their last 6 while the Blues are 4-1-1.  While both teams have struggled defensively of late, I’m going to side with the Blues in this matchup because they just have more talent.  Both teams have corsi’s of just 44% over the past 2 weeks so we know both teams are going to give up some shots.  Blues are giving up 36 shots per game while the Canadiens are giving up 37.

While I love Tarasenko, it’s actually been his line mates that have been putting up the numbers.  Both Buchnevich and Barbashev have 5 points over their past 5 games.  They are also incredibly cheap on DK tonight and will help us fit the expensive stack above.  I absolutely do not mind if you pair them with Tarasenko tonight, but those two will be my priority.

Seattle 1 (Wennberg/Schwartz/Eberle) + Giordano vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

Seattle has been playing much better hockey of late.  Over their past 6 games they are 3-2-1.  They are also a much better team at home than on the road and guess what?  They’re on home ice tonight.  Over their past 7 games the Blue Jackets have been extremely poor on the defensive front. They are just giving up way too many high danger chances to be successful.

During that 7 game stretch of hockey they are giving up over 14 high danger chances per game and 4 goals per game.  That just screams attack to me.  And that’s exactly what I’m going to do.  My priority with this stack will be Wennberg and Eberle as the two play together on the top power play unit for Seattle.  This is my riskier stack, but they are in a great spot tonight and I’m looking to take advantage of it.

I didn’t write up Anaheim as one of my top 3 stacks, but I absolutely love them tonight if Casey DeSmith is between the pipes.  He’s awful and is always stackable against.

Other stacks (Both top lines for Edmonton, Tor 1, Min 1 or 2, Anaheim 1, Bos 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Morgan Rielly – Toronto Maple Leafs (9 points in 5 games)
  • Seth Jones – Chicago Blackhawks
  • Kris Letang – Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Erik Karlsson – San Jose Sharks
  • Evan Bouchard – Edmonton Oilers
  • Mark Giordano – Seattle Kraken

Summary

I mentioned it in my goalie section that we’ll see a lot of back up goalies tonight.  With that we should see some high scoring games.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

We’re back with another Wednesday Night Win Daily NHL Article! We had a strong performance after the breakdown in yesterday’s article! Tonight we have a small 4-gamer for tonight’s slate, with some great plays that jumped out right away!!! So, let’s get ready for the newest edition of WinDaily’s Between the Benches! For tonight’s 12/8 NHL slate, the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get into it!

12/8 NHL Stack Report

  1. Boston Bruins 1
    Marchand – Bergeron – Pastrnak (FanDuel: $26,300 | DraftKings: $22,700)
Lets get the obvious out of the way first. Out of all the “top lines” (the others being COL1 and VGK1, in terms of the line’s high salaries) Boston’s top line is in the best spot for tonight’s slate. They are far and away Boston’s best line meaning that unlike Colorado and Vegas’ top line they will see a lionshare of the playing time as well as the power play opportunities. Unsuprisingly, they’ve been consistently good, for example Marchand has only been kept off the scoresheet in three games this season. He’s more than made up for those games with many multi-point game efforts. In tonight’s slate they’re up against a Vancouver side who has had a shaky go this season as they hold an embarrassing home record of 4-7-1 and are near the bottom of the league in defensive stats while also having a goalie who is extremley inconsistent and struggles against top talent. This line is very expensive so if you can only pick one player from this line, pick Marchand.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Charlie McAvoy (FD: $6,700 | DK: $6,000)
  2. New Jersey Devils 1
    Bratt – Hischier – Zacha (FanDuel: $14,500 | DraftKings: $14,300)
This line is a welcomed edition to tonight’s small slate as they are a top line that will get plenty of opportunities to run over the struggling Philadelphia Flyers who have now lost NINE straight and arguably made matters worse by hiring Mike Yeo who is most notable for getting fired by the Blues en route to the Blues miraculous cup run back in 2019. Over their last two games, the Flyers coughed up 14 goals!!!! Bottom line, the Flyers are struggling bad (lacklustre offence, and worse defense) and at these prices New Jersey can provide some top talent performances at value prices. On this line in particular I am particularly looking at Bratt and Hischier for my builds tonight as they have been consistently good as of late (especially Bratt).
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Dougie Hamilton (Ryan Graves works as salary relief) (FD: $7,300 | DK: $7,700)

    Honorable Mention(s): DAL1 (Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski), COL1 (Rantanen-MacKinnon-Landeskog), VGK2 (Smith-Karlsson-Marchessault), VGK1 (Stone-Stephenson-Pacioretty)

12/8 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Mackenzie Blackwood (FD: $7,100 | DK: $8,000)
  2. Jeremy Swayman (FD: $8,400 | DK: $8,200)

Worst (Goalies to Target)

  1. Thatcher Demko (FD: $7,400 | DK: $7,200)

12/8 NHL Wild Card Targets

Devon Toews (FD: $5,600 | DK: $5,700)
Devon Toews has been a surprising success story for the Ave’s considering the time and effort they have spent into (successfully) developing Cale Makar. Regardless, Toews has been making the most of his opportunities as of late and has been putting together quite the run as of late. Like Marchand, he has only been kept off the scoresheet in three of his games this season and has strung together his fair share of multipoint games (including in his last two games). Stacking Toews will be difficult since his linemates are very expensive but he does work as a one-off option and can serve as a cheaper option to defenseman Dougie Hamilton as in this slate, in particular, smart salary plays are everything. It would be wise to get some exposure to the Colorado side of this matchup as they will be facing off against a Rangers side who played last night and who will most likely be starting a goalie who is taking on both sides of the back-to-back and has notoriously had some trouble stopping the puck this season despite the fact that his team’s offence has been able to bail him out. Toews plays alongside Makar on the Avalanche’s top defensive pairing and also sees time on Colorado’s second power-play unit.
Honorable Mention(s): Jason Robertson, Reilly Smith, Wade Allison, Nazem Kadri

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Centre Nico Hischier

Winger Brad Marchand

Defence Dougie Hamilton (Devon Toews if you need the extra salary)

Goalie Mackenzie Blackwood

We’re back with a new Tuesday Night Win Daily NHL Article! Happy to have you today! There has been a lot of success in the chat so let’s hope that continues today! We have a nice 10-gamer for tonight’s slate, lots of different plays to look at!!! So, let’s get ready for the newest edition of WinDaily’s Between the Benches! For tonight’s 12/7 NHL slate, the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get into it!

12/7 NHL Stack Report

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs 1
    Bunting – Matthews – Simmonds (FanDuel: $19,200 | DraftKings: $15,300)
With the news that Marner is going to be out of the lineup for a couple more weeks, you’ll have continued access to a super affordable top line for Toronto. As of late, Toronto has been one of the hottest teams in hockey and is coming into tonight as one of the biggest favorites on the slate. Either of Toronto’s top two lines are playable tonight but with Matthews on a six-game scoring streak which included a hattrick against Colorado, I am leaning towards the all-star centre with super affordable wingers for tonight’s slate.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Morgan Rielly (FD: $6,200 | DK: $5,200)
  2. Anaheim Ducks 2
    Milano – Zegras – Rackell (FanDuel: $16,200 | DraftKings: $13,000)
There’s so much that can be said about this line, they’ve been playing extremely well as of late, with multi point games over their last three and have are up against arguably one of the worst goalies in the league this season, Aaron Dell, who wont be helped by the fact that Buffalo is one of the worst defensive teams in the league this season giving up 3.75 GA/G and allowing almost 34 shots against a game. On top of that, they’re riding into tonight on a four-game losing streak. Despite Anaheim’s recent losses, this line has been on fire and for their price, its hard to not play them tonight.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Kevin Shattenkirk (FD: $4,800 | DK: $4,300)

    Honorable Mention(s): TBL1 (Palat-Stamkos-Joseph), NSH1 (Forsberg-Granlund-Duchene), SJS1 (Meier-Couture-Dahlen), FLA2 (Reinhart-Bennett-Huberdeau), EDM1 (Hyman-McDavid-Puljajarvi)

12/7 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Ilya Sorokin (FD: $8,200 | DK: $8,200)
  2. Jack Campbell (FD: $8,100 | DK: $8,500)
Honorable Mention(s): Juuse Saros, James Reimer

Worst (Goalies to Target)

  1. Aaron Dell (FD: $6,800 | DK: $7,500)
    Honorable Mention(s): Ville Husso

12/7 NHL Wild Card Targets

Mikael Granlund (FD: $5,100 | DK: $5,400)
Granlund has truly been impressing me as of late. Aided by his linemates Matt Duchene, Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi. Granlund has soared to the top of the list in Predators point scoring which has included multiple four point performances. At the moment, he is also tied for third in the league for assists and is the classic case of iron sharpening iron (playing better because of the talent around him). I mainly like him in a stack tonight with one of his linemates mentioned above. They’ll also be up against the Red Wings who have been extremley shaky defensively this season, giving up 3.12 GA/G and over 33 shots against per game.
Honorable Mention(s): Pierre-Luc Dubois-Andrew Copp, Brandon Hagel, Anthony Cirelli, Seth Jarvis

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Centre Auston Matthews

Winger Rickard Rackell

Defence Adam Fox

Goalie Ilya Sorokin

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  I’m Jared and I’ll be your host.  Tonight we have a nice sized 9 game slate where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL slate on Fanduel and Draftkings.

Goaltending

Tristan Jarry ($8k DK/$8.1k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – Triston Jarry is one of the hottest goalies in the game.  Over his past 9 games he has a save % of .939 and has given up just 1.66 goals per game.  Outside of his last game vs. an explosive Edmonton offense he had been above 20 DK points in 6 consecutive games.

In a matchup against a Canucks team that is only scoring a hair over 2 goals per game, I really like Jarry’s chances of getting past his dud vs. Edmonton and back on the saddle w/ a game above 20 DK points again.  There’s a strong chance for a ceiling type game from Jarry due to the Vancouver’s high shot volume and low shooing %.  They are averaging 38 shots per game with just a 5.58 shooting percentage.

Alex Nedeljkovic ($7.7k DK/$7.5k FD) vs. New York Islanders – The Red Wings are riding a 4 game winning streak, with a lot of it due to the solid play of Nedeljkovic.  He has been superb of late.  In his last 3 games he has DK points of 32, 24.8, and 40.8.  The only concern with Nedeljkovic tonight is that the Islanders play at a slow pace and don’t shoot the puck much.

Over their last 5 games they are averaging just 25 shots per game.  That said, they’re also averaging less than a goal per game during that stretch.  The Islanders are getting past their COVID issues but tonight’s not going to be their night.  Look for Nedeljkovic to be one of the top goalies by the end of the night.

Marc-Andre Fleury ($7.3k DK/$7.3 FD) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins – As a Rangers fan I hope I’m wrong here but I think they struggle tonight.  They’re playing their third game in 4 days and are on the back side of a back to back. In Fleury we’re getting a very affordable goalie who is in the midst of a pretty good stretch of goaltending.  Over his last 7 games he has .947 saver percentage and is giving up just 1.69 goals per game.  With my expectation that the Rangers have some tired legs I expect Fleury to have one of his better nights of the year.

Stacks

Colorado 1 (Mackinnon/Landeskog/Rantanen) + Toews or Maker

Colorado gets an extremely favorable matchup tonight vs. a Senators team that is giving up close to 5 goals per game over the past 2 weeks.  Senators are one of my favorite teams to stack against because they are one of the bottom feeders in the NHL.  Over the last 2 weeks they have a corsi % of just 41%.  In comparison, the Avalanche are at 57%.  Anything below 50 isn’t great, but when you are approaching 40% you’re bad.  Very bad.

In net for Ottawa tonight should be Filip Gustavsson.  Over his last 5 games he has an .887 save % and is giving up more than 4 goals per game.  This stack is extremely expensive and will be very popular.  But they are in just too good of a spot to pass up. If you want to go a different route w/ Colorado tonight I do also love their second line with Kadri and Nichushkin.  Both guys have been playing extremely well together and come at a fraction of the cost of the top line.

Nashville 1 (Granlund/Duchene/Forsberg) + Josi or Fabbri

This line is very affordable tonight on DK and gets a great matchup.  Montreal is giving up close to 40 shots per game over the last 2 weeks.  That’s just a ton of volume.  While Jake Allen is serviceable goalie, he’s not someone that can handle that much volume without giving up a handful of goals.  His GAA over his past 5 games is north of 3.

This top line for Nashville is playing extremely well.  Over the past 5 games Forsberg has 6 goals while Granlund and Duchene have combined for 11 points with 9 assists.  They have a chance to put up a big number tonight vs. a poor defensive team.

Carolina 3 (Svechnikov/Kotkaniemi/Stepan)

I don’t have the warm and fuzzies about this pick, but the Sabres are just so bad right now.  Over their past 7 games they have a goals against average of 5 and a corsi of 47%.  That’s just downright awful.  While the Hurricanes aren’t playing their best hockey right now, they have shown explosiveness in the past.  There’s no better slump buster in the league than the Buffalo Sabres.

Svechnikov is one of their best players and even though the team is struggling to score some goals, he’s still firing away on net.  Over his past 5 games he’s averaging almost 3.5 shots per game.  His line mates are extremely cheap and if Svechnikov can connect on a pair of goals tonight with them we have a chance to break away from the pack at a low cost.  Carolina gets back on track tonight and puts up a very large number.

Other stacks (Detroit 1, Pit 1 and 2, Min 1, Tor 1 and 2, Was 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Roman Josi – Nashville Predators
  • Kris Letang – Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Tyler Myers – Vancouver Canucks
  • Seth Jones – Chicago Blackhawks
  • Jacob Slavin – Carolina Hurricanes
  • Adam Fox – New York Rangers

Summary

We have a fun looking slate tonight.  4 of the 9 games have a total of at least 6.  Some of the worst defensive teams are in action tonight and I’m going to make it a point to attack them.  The Toronto/Minnesota game tonight highlights two of the more solid teams in the league.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!
