NBA GPP Picks 1/16

Man have we had some crazy basketball slates lately or what? We have had slate breaking news it seems like every night to allow us to play stars and scrubs lineups. Joel Embiid has already been ruled out along with Jimmy Butler. Other notables listed as questionable are Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Goran Dragic and Gordon Hayward. With Minnesota having positive COVID tests keep an eye on Memphis as they were the most recent team to play Minnesota. Since Embiid is out our highest priced player on this four-game slate is Damian Lillard at just $9,200. For my article NBA GPP Picks 1/16 I will be using DraftKings pricing. Due to the four-game slate tonight I will just break down each game to determine my favorite plays and go through scenarios due to a plethora of questionable tags.

Pace is 1st being the fastest and Def RTG 1st is the best defense.

NBA GPP Picks 1/16

Charlotte Hornets vs Toronto Raptors

Pace: 19th   Def RTG: 6th                                               Pace: 11th Def RTG: 21st

Hornets

Gordon Hayward – ($7,800)

This Raptors match-up is one to target on this small four game slate. They have allowed the most fantasy points to both small forwards and power forwards this season. If Hayward plays he carries the highest usage average on his team at 26%. This match-up is one to drool over if Hayward suits up especially since he has the highest usage rate on his team against the Raptors vulnerable SF/PF positions.

PJ Washington – ($6,400)

I like this play if Hayward plays but I like it much more if he sits. If Hayward sits Washington see’s a 3.5% usage bump putting him at second on the team in usage at 25.6% As I mentioned the Raptors have given up the most fantasy points to power forwards as well. His lowest minute total in his last four is 31 minutes and he has scored over 40 fantasy points in three of his last four. Let’s not forget he just saw this match-up and went for over 40 fantasy points and it’s easily possible again.

Miles Bridges – ($4,500)

Clearly you see the theme here attacking the Raptors weakest spot. His minutes without Hayward have been nearing 30, even if Hayward plays he see’s around 25 minutes. Usage numbers wont be crazy for him but I want pieces of these positions. Bridges has been above 6K on DraftKings earlier this year so this is a bargain price for this dream scenario against Toronto.

Raptors

OG Anunoby – ($5,500)

He is about as consistent as it gets and I will take that for this small slate. Anunoby has scored less than 25 fantasy points in only three of the Raptors eleven games thus far. Small Forward is the position Charlotte struggles with the most giving up the sixth most fantasy points. Anunoby typically has minutes in the mid to upper 30’s along with other Raptors starters. Seeing those minutes with Hayward or Caleb Martin defense will allow Anunoby to pass off his salary with a smaller usage rate.

Chris Boucher – ($6,900)

Raptors have been searching for their big man and it looks like they found him with Boucher. He has played 25 minutes in four straight games and has yet to score under 37.5 fantasy points in those games. He just put of 48.5 fantasy points and a near 24% usage against this same Charlotte team he faces tonight. With Baynes and Len seeing minimal minutes lately at center I feel confident with Boucher and he has been a fantasy point machine given the minutes this year. His minutes are there and its time to fire up Boucher.

You can play any Raptors starters they see at least 35 minutes pretty much every night, about as tight and consistent of a rotation as it comes other than center but Boucher seems to have solidified that.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Memphis Grizzlies

Pace: 4th   Def RTG: 5th                                                  Pace: 19th   Def RTG: 4th

76ers

Shake Milton – ($5,200)

With Embiid already ruled out its tough to ignore the 8% usage bump Milton gets with Embiid and Curry off the floor. That brings his usage total to 30.9% without Embiid and Curry. If you exclude the first four games for Milton he has been good and consistent regardless of who plays. Curry being out we have seen Milton’s minutes much closer to 30 and above. Given the usage rate, minutes, and price, Milton should be able to smash value.

Tobias Harris – ($7,500)

Harris see’s a massive usage increase much like Milton. Harris’ increase is 7% bringing him to a 30% usage rate without Embiid and Curry. We see other bumps to Harris’ stats with a 8.6% assist rate increase and a rebounding increase. Being that Ben Simmons isn’t much of a shooter Milton and Harris will be relied on to do the heavy lifting in the scoring department. Roll out Tobias comfortably given his massive usage and roll in this offense with Embiid and Curry absent.

Dwight Howard – ($4,300)

Memphis typically plays with two bigs meaning minutes should be solidified for Howard here. Howard clearly isn’t a usage guy but contributes in his rebounding, blocks, and gets a bucket here and there. With over 30 minutes up for grabs at the center position a double-double should be the floor here for Howard assuming he gets the start. I also like Tony Bradley at stone minimum on DraftKings as a sneaky play.

Grizzlies

Dillon Brooks – ($6,500)

I don’t really like much from Memphis especially if Morant plays which I think he will. If he doesn’t though the main piece, I have from this game will be Brooks. He sees the highest usage rate on the team without Morant as he averages a usage of 29%. This is a nice pace up spot for Memphis and the 76ers have allowed the eighth most fantasy points to shooting guards this season.

Jonas Valanciunas – ($7,000)

This is the lowest price that we have seen Valanciunas other than his previous game against the Wolves. Valanciunas has a nice usage rate for a center at a season average of 24%. He has accrued a double-double in nine of his eleven games this season and now looks at a pace up spot against a team missing their starting center.

Detroit Pistons vs Miami Heat

Pace: 22nd   Def RTG: 23rd                                            Pace: 8th   Def RTG: 12th

Detroit

Jerami Grant – ($7,400)

Man, I can’t believe that his price went down as solid as he has been. Grant’s lowest minute total on the season is 34 minutes. In nine straight games he has a usage of at least 25%, with four of those games being above 30% usage. Miami has given up the seventh most fantasy points to power forwards this season. Given the matchup and the pace up spot for Grant another 40-point fantast night is in sight. That shouldn’t be hard to come by for Grant as he has scored at least 42 fantasy points in four out of his last five games.

Derrick Rose – ($5,200)

Returning to the court after a couple game absence is Rose. I don’t believe he will be on a strict enough minutes restriction to where he can’t see his regular 25 minutes. In the eight games that Rose his played this season in six of those he has a usage rate above 30%. Rose leads Detroit in usage rate at an average of 30% on the season. This price is crazy low for Rose as it is the lowest price he has been on DraftKings by $600. I will take the chances in GPP’s on Rose coming back from the injury, after all it was just a week two game absence.

Miami

It all depends on who plays for Miami as the come into tonight with eight players questionable. If Herro plays he is a great option for Miami as he should take the bulk of the usage with Butler out. Adebayo is a fantastic play if he gets the green light as well. Detroit has given up the second most fantasy points to centers on the young NBA season. Check out Discord Chat rooms closer to lock when we receive who is active for Miami.

Atlanta Hawks vs Portland Trail Blazers

Pace: 11th   Def RTG: 11th                                           Pace: 14th   Def RTG: 25th

Atlanta

Trae Young – ($8,900)

Young has been cold of late and went 1 for 11 last night against Utah. The plus for that is Young only played 24 minutes so this back to back shouldn’t affect them horribly. Portland has allowed the sixth most fantasy points to point guards this season. That should be a perfect recipe for a point guard like Young who dominates the ball and usage on his team. A season average of 32% usage is tops on Atlanta by far as the next closest rotation player is at 21%. We get a bargain price on Young as well, he was $200 cheaper last night in Utah and that was the cheapest he has been all season.

Cam Reddish – ($4,600)

His minutes are about as safe right now as they will ever be. With Bogdanovic and Gallinari out again minutes at wing for the Hawks aren’t as hard to come by. You wouldn’t see that in his last two games both were massive blowouts. Three games ago is when Bogdanovic got hurt and Reddish saw his season high 34 minutes in that game. A usage above 24% in two out of the three games without Bogdanovic is also something to note for Reddish. A fantastic matchup here as well as Portland is bad defensively and has surrendered the fifth most fantasy points to shooting guards. Let’s not forget they just lost their rim protector in Nurkic.

Solomon Hill – ($3,600)

In the near three games without Bogdanovic, Hill has seemed to benefit some with minutes as he has seen over 20 minutes in three straight games now. He is likely to matchup with Carmelo and see his defense so I don’t mind this as a cheap punt play.

Portland

CJ McCollum – ($8,300)

Nurkic is out with a significant wrist injury and McCollum sees the main usage benefit as gets a bump of 2.3% putting his total at 31.4%. That usage is more than Lillard’s and without Nurkic I think it hurts Dame more in the pick and roll game. In close games Portland rolls their stars out heavy. We saw that recently as CJ logged 39 and 43 minutes before the Indiana game. With his lowest fantasy output of 33 points McCollum really has yet to bust at this price. This game opened at 236 so a fast-high scoring game always benefits McCollum and his shooting.

Enes Kanter – ($5,600)

In the absence of his fellow big man Kanter should take over the starting roll in Portland. Kanter has seen over twenty minutes of playing time in just four games this season. He has scored over 23 fantasy points in all those games making it clear to see if he gets the minutes he should produce. His usage rate is near 20% on the season as well so its not like he isn’t involved offensively. His ownership could be chalky, and Harry Giles could be a sneaky play at a much cheaper price. Giles isn’t likely to see as much Capela defense either.

NBA GPP Picks 1/16

Monkey Knife Fight

76ers vs Grizzlies

Tobias Harris – 19.5 points – More – He see’s the big usage increase without Embiid. Even if Embiid played this amount of points seems low. Regardless Harris should see more and I feel like this number should be more like 23.5 to 24.5.

Dillon Brooks – 15.5 points – More – I like this more if Morant sits a lot more. I think Brooks and the Memphis offense benefits with Morant so I would still take the more if Morant plays. Brooks has the second highest usage on the Grizzlies behind only Morant.

NBA GPP Picks 1/10

Well yesterday’s slate ended up being wild after all the news with star players being ruled out like Giannis and Russell Westbrook. It was an extremely high scoring night for NBA DFS. We are back tonight though with another edition of NBA GPP Picks 1/10 a six game Sunday night slate. It could be just a crazy of a slate as yesterday as Boston could be missing several players. We also don’t know what the deal with Kyrie is or if Anthony Davis misses another game as he is still listed questionable. Lakers vs Rockets, Wolves vs Spurs will be my main games to target, while also looking towards Boston for Value. In this article I will be referring to DraftKings pricing. Based upon my research I will select two players from each position that are great fantasy plays for tonight’s NBA slate.

PG

Dejounte Murray – ($6,800)

Well at this point the Wolves are about the dream matchup as they rank dead last in defensive efficiency. They have given up the fourth most fantasy points to point guards and just allowed Dame a massive game in three quarters. Murray has averaged a usage rate of 24% good for second on the Spurs. Adding the Wolves are the seventh fastest team in the league and Murray just went for over 50 fantasy points in the same matchup last evening.

D’Angelo Russell – ($8,100)

Even with Towns return Russell still grabbed a usage rate of 28.4%. He get’s the same opponent as he saw last night in San Antonio who has allowed the most fantasy points to point guards this season. San Antonio ranks 21st in defensive rating and has been the ninth fastest team in the league. Although Russell struggled in this matchup last night I will play him as that will likely drive ownership down even with this glorious matchup.

SG

Jeff Teague – ($4,400)

As I mentioned earlier Boston has loads of players questionable due to health protocols and Tatum is listed doubtful already. In Boston’s previous game Teague slotted third in usage at 21.3% behind just Brown and Tatum. With Tatum already doubtful a load of usage is up for grabs not to mention Jaylen Brown is also doubtful. Looking at Boston’s usage with just Tatum and the other Celtics off the floor, Teague sees a usage increase of 5.7% albeit a small sample size. The minutes and usage available will allow Teague to pay off this price tag even against a good Heat team.

D’Angelo Russell – ($8,100)

Even with the return of Towns, Russell still saw a usage rate near 30%. San Antonio currently ranks 21st in defense rating and is playing at the eighth fastest pace. Russell has a premiere matchup here as the Spurs have surrendered the most fantasy points to point guards on the season. I know Russell didn’t hit value last night that should drive down his owndership for the rematch. With an average usage of 29% and this beautiful matchup against the Spurs, Russell has another great opportunity to have a big fantasy day.

SF

Jimmy Butler – ($7,300)

Having a fantastic game against the depleted Wizards team was no surprise last night for Butler. He draws yet again another injury riddled team in the Celtics who have multiple players questionable or ruled out. The two main rim protectors will be out and one of the candidates to guard Butler is doubtful in Tatum. Butler is averaging a usage rate of 28.7% in his last two games one of those games was against Boston in which he saw a 34.7% usage rate. If he gets near that usage rate in this matchup against a thin Boston team he should crush value.

Demar Derozan – ($7,700)

Last night against the Wolves Derozan tied his highest point total with the Spurs. He went for 51 fantasy points while scoring 38 real points in route to a overtime victory. I personally watched the game and the Wolves had no one to guard Demar, even on ISO’s he just got right to the rim. In that victory Derozan amassed his highest usage rate of the season at 29.9%. As I mentioned in the Dejounte Murray section the wolves are a dream matchup as they are the worst defensive rated team in the NBA. After playing 44 minutes last night Derozan and some other Spurs could be rest candidates be aware of that.

PF

Julius Randle – ($9,500)

In his most recent game against the Thunder Randle saw his lowest minute total of the season at just 31. First half foul trouble was a factor in that. As we know Tom Thibodeau led teams typically have tight rotations with starters seeing heavy minutes. Prior to the Thunder game Randle’s lowest minute total was 35. This Denver team hasn’t been good defensively to start the year ranking 25th in defensive rating. With Robinson playing center for the Knicks it is likely that Randle avoids Jokic defense as well for majority of this game. Randle’s usage rate has also been way up this season averaging a usage rate of 28% on the year. In his last four games his usage rate has been above 25%. Heavy minutes, a large usage rate, and a slight price decrease against a Denver team struggling defensively will allow Randle his second triple double on the season.

JaMychal Green – ($4,300)

Michael Porter Jr. has received an additional quarantine meaning more fantasy goodness for Green. Since making his season debut Green is second on the Nuggets in usage at 26%. He has yet to see a game with a usage rate below 22% while seeing nearly 20 minutes in every game he has played. Green has scored over 20 fantasy points in four straight games and the only game he didn’t score over 20 was in his season debut. The price is fair and still leaves upside for Green that we have seen, but he also has been a safe play for this price.

C

Anthony Davis – ($9,700)

Of course Davis has to play here but I love this spot if he does. I do think he sat out that last game due to it being the second leg of a back to back. A matchup against the Rockets who have allowed the second most fantasy points to center up to this point. Averaging a 28% usage rate against this Houston team should be plenty to pay off Davis’ price tag below 10K. Houston has allowed the most rebounds to centers out of all NBA teams this season, as they also have the worst defensive rebound rate. Davis should be able to get a double-double grabbing that bonus on DraftKings. A fantastic spot awaits Davis as long as he is given the green light.

Tacko Fall – ($3,300)

With Daniel Theis being the only healthy center Fall was called upon for the most minutes of his career at 19 minutes. In those minutes he was efficient from a fantasy stand point scoring 20 fantasy points at minimum price on DraftKings. Its possible that more of these players are ruled out and this game could get out of hand if both Brown and Tatum sit for the Celtics. Fall would be a primary beneficiary of garbage time. If he is going to see around 20 minutes of regular rotation time regardless of the score he will hit value. Fall has also recorded five blocks in 25 minutes of playing time this season. This is a risky play as Fall doesn’t have gaurenteed minutes, but as we saw last game he can hit value when given the minutes.

Monkey Knife Fight

Minnesota vs San Antonio

Demar Derozan – 20.5 points – More – facing the Wolves this shouldn’t be an issue. In this same matchup he just torched the wolves for 38 points. He has a large usage rate and should be able to eclipse 20 points.

D’Angelo Russell – 22.5 points – More – San Antonio has given up the second most real points to point guards this season. Russell also saw a near 30% usage rate with Towns returning last night.

Closing NBA GPP Picks 1/10

Thank you for taking the time to read my article NBA GPP Picks 1/10. This six game slate has already has news to watch with Tatum being doubtful and several other Celtics players being questionable. We also have no clue what is going on with Kyrie, and Anthony Davis comes into this slate questionable as well. NBA GPP Picks 12/27

Today we are looking at a Sunday NBA GPP Picks 12/27 with nine games scheduled for the slate again. Every game on this slate will be featuring a team on a back-to-back and teams could elect to be cautious this early in the season. Since there was previous inklings Russell Westbrook will sit out one of the back-to-back games we should keep an eye on that situation after he played last night. That Orlando vs Washington game is projected as the highest total again at 230 1/2.

Another notable situation is with the Timberwolves as Karl Anthony Towns got injured in last nights game and said he has “heavy soreness” after the game. If those two players alone are out that is a ton of usage and value to be had on this slate. For this article I will be using DraftKings pricing to find the best point per dollar plays at each position based upon my research. Lets get into this back-to-back heavy slate!

NBA GPP Picks 12/27

Steph Curry– ($9,300)

We finally have a game that Steph and company may keep close as the spread is currently just three. It comes as no surprise as of now this game opened as highest total on the slate at 228 ½ according to DraftKings sports book. Chicago has yet to stop either team they faced surrendering 124 and 125 points in those games. Trae Young lit up the Bulls scoring 37 points in only 26 minutes. Steph is the lead dog in this offense and if he shoots 21 times like on opening night the fantasy upside in this matchup is glorious. The defense or lack thereof in this Chicago backcourt should allow Steph to have a massive day even if Draymond Green returns.

Tomas Satoransky – ($4,300)

D’angelo Russell – ($7,600) especially if towns is out

SG

Terrence Ross – ($4,700)

Orlando draws the same matchup as they had last night which saw them score 130 points and Ross specifically scoring 33.5 fantasy points. Ross has played nearly 30 minutes in both game and shot 14 times in both games. This is a cheap price to get a guy like Ross that heads the second unit and shots plenty including from long range. Washington’s defense just got torched by this Magic team and the game is projected as the highest total. again.

Alec Burks – ($5,400)

SF

Tobias Harris – ($6,600)

What a magnificent matchup for Harris facing Clevland as they have allowed over 45 fantasy points in both games to just the starting small forwards this season. Although Harris is yet to have a big game he has taken the second most shot attempts among the team in both games only trailing Embiid. Already this season Cleveland has been apart of some huge total games so picking on them isn’t a bad idea. 45 fantasy points is not out of the question for Harris at all. He is every bit as good as Gordon Hayward and Jerami Grant, those being the two starters to carve the Cavs up.

Demar Derozan  – ($7,300)

PF

Jayson Tatum – ($8,800)

Without Kemba Walker the usage for Tatum to start the season has been thru the roof. In just two games Tatum has already attempted 50 shots this season. He should see the weakest defender in the starting lineup for Indiana in TJ Warren, just ask Jimmy Butler. DraftKings has dropped Tatum’s price below 9k for the first time this season even though he almost dropped a 50 burger already. If Tatum gets 36 minutes and shoots it 25 times like he has been it is highly likely he exceeds value today.

Jae Crowder – ($5,000)

C

Bismack Biyombo – ($3,800)

We should see Biyombo get the start again against the Nets with Zeller out. Getting the starting nod and seeing 30 minutes of court time allowed Biyombo to hit value by scoring over 25 fantasy points last night even with shooting 2-7 from the field. The real question is if Charlotte can keep this game close enough for the starters to see close to 30 minutes. If I get 30 minutes out of a center at this price its almost hard for them to under perform unless foul trouble occurs. Minutes equal money in NBA and that showed for Biyombo yesterday exceeding value only making two of his seven shots.

Naz Reid – ($4,200) could be a great move if Towns is out.

Zion Williamson – ($8,200)

Monkey Knife Fight

Golden State vs Chicago game

Steph Curry – 25.5 points (MORE) 20 shot attempts against the Bulls should be plenty to his this mark.

Zach Lavine – 23.5 points (MORE)

There is potential for loads of slate altering news with 12 teams from this slate being on second leg of a back-to-back. Two more teams are on the first leg of a back-to-back as well. A fantastic option to stay updated on any news is in our Discord Chat rooms with myself and the WinDaily family. We follow all NBA news and help you make the proper changes necessary. If players get ruled out It could be a tricky slate so be sure to join us to make the game changing adjustments. Hopefully your Sunday football or basketball DFS slate brings you money. Best of luck with your NBA lineups and thanks for tuning into my article!
