7/28 MLB DFS: The Fearless Five (DK GPP)

Baseball is back and I’ve got five hitters for you to consider in large-field DK GPPs for 7/28 MLB DFS, where it pays to be fearless!

7/28 MLB DFS – C Will Smith (DK $4,300) LAD @ HOU

If I’m spending up at catcher today, it’s for Smith, who sports a.410 road wOBA in his career and has a lofty .322 career ISO in 206 plate appearances.He’s a reliable power source who stands a good shot at going deep in MinuteMaid Park. We can find Wilson Ramos (DK $3,700) a little further down the pricelist and the punt play is probably Sal Perez (DK $2,800). But with plenty ofvalue on this slate I’ll leaning toward spending for the most pop at catcher.

7/28 MLB DFS – 1B Matt Olson (DK $4,600) OAK vs. COL

I love the Athletics’ lefty bats in this matchup, as Antonio Senzatelais a bit of a dumpster fire against LHBs – yielding a .394 wOBA and a walk rateover 11%. Olson is almost $1K cheaper than Pete Alonso ($DK $5,500) and has a decentcontact rate for a slugger. I’ll absolutely be rolling out shares of Alonso andMax Muncy (DK $4,000), and the latter comes at a big discount because the Astrosare starting lefty Framber Valdez – who, let’s be honest, may not last long inthis game.

7/28 MLB DFS – 2B Kike Hernandez (DK $3,000) LAD @ HOU

Kike is available at 2B and any of the three outfield positions onDK, so there’s a great deal of flexibility in fitting him in your lineups.There’s always a chance he comes out of the game in the later innings, but whathe can do in just an at bat or two facing a southpaw is very intriguing. Thepricing is very soft on some of these Dodgers bats, and I’ll be taking advantage.I do have some love for dirt-cheap 2B/OF Whit Merrifield (DK $3,800), but I’llbe happy to use him in an OF spot along with the Royals OF I’ll get to in aminute, and 2B/3B David Fletcher (DK $3,200) is another interesting optionleading off for the Angels, especially with that bevy of sluggers following him(Trout, Rendon, Upton, Ohtani, Pujols).

7/28 MLB DFS – SS Xander Bogaerts (DK $4,000) BOS vs. NYM

The price on Bogaerts is way too low, so I’m not going to overthinkthis one and just use him as my main SS on DK. You can make a case for AmedRosario (DK $5,100) in GPPs that feature Mets stacks, but I’ll be putting mostof my eggs in Xander’s basket tonight. And aside from Adalberto Mondesi (DK $3,400),I’m just not seeing much upside in the value guys.

7/26 MLB DFS – OF Jorge Soler (DK $3,700) KC vs. DET

I almost included Soler in yesterday’s column but decided to give Yelich a shot, and he respond by going yard – even if it was his only hit of the game. The multi-hit games are coming, and tonight could be the first of many. Merrifield-Soler-Mondesi-Perez-Ryan O’Hearn-Maikel Franco is a fine 1-6 stack against Detroit SP Rony Garcia, and I’d be happy to run it back with some Tigers bats in a full game stack. Spend-up one-offs include Trout (DK $6,000) and the much more moderately-priced Joey Gallo ($4,100), and Mookie Betts is in a fine spot for Dodgers stacks.

NOTE: Pitching worked out great last night as I got plenty of value from Glasnow and Wacha, but tonight is a much tougher proposition. I’m currently interested in value option Patrick Sandoval ($6,600) and pairing him with a mix of higher-priced options like Kyle Gibson and possibly even Walker Buehler – pitch count and tough matchup notwithstanding.

Monkey Knife Fight Pick of the Day

I’m looking at the offense for the Royals-Tigers game, which s of post time didn’t have a line yet. I’ll take the 1-2 hitters for the Royals who were discussed in the column and Tigers leadoff hitter Niko Goodrum. 3x is risky, but these guys can easily rack up 17.5 fantasy points so you can get a big triple-up reward when you take down your Monkey Knife Fight bet.

MLB DFS: Monday’s Aces and Bases

MLB DFS season is finally here and so is the Aces and Bases from Win Daily Sports. The July 27th edition of Aces and Bases will take on the main 9-game MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. The purpose of this article is to identify our top pitching plays and fades on the slate, in addition to our top offense stacks for your GPP lineups.

Please make sure you keep an eye on the weather and other factors as those are always important things to monitor when playing MLB DFS. Be sure to check out our MLB DFS Projections as well. Without further ado, it’s Aces and Bases time.

MLB DFS: The Aces

Best Value: Pablo Lopez ($7,500 DK / $6,900 FD)

Pablo Lopez takes the bump for the first time in 2020 and gets a favorable match up in the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles bats played better than expected over the weekend in Boston, but the lineup is still lacking and shouldn’t be able to keep it up during the week.

~~Lopez leans on his change up, and for good reason, it has great movement and produced a 46% O-swing rate last year. Look for Pablo to find strikeouts in Monday’s match up.~~ Covid-Postponed.

Honorable Mention: Josh James

Top Ace(s) FanDuel: Tyler Glasnow ($8,900 DK / $9,700 FD)

Glasnow and his curveball were absolutely electric in 2019 (57% K rate!) as the young hurler was off to a fantastic start before getting injured.

Glasnow should be ready for almost a full workload Monday and looks to pick up where he left off in 2019 where started with a 1.78 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 76/14 K/BB ratio over 60 2/3 innings in 12 starts. Atlanta is a tough opponent but Glasnow was near match up proof before going down and he is just priced way too low at the moment.

Honorable Mention: Josh James($8,600 DK / $6,700 FD)

Punt Play: Asher Wojciechowski ($6,800 DK / $6,400 FD)

The counter play to our value ace, Wojciechowski gets to take the bump against the Marlins, which is the main reason for this play. It’s hard to justify rolling out a Orioles pitcher but Asher has decent command of his fastball and showed some flashes with a few good outings last year. The price sure reflects this one. Covid-Postponed.

Replacement: Wade Miley

Top Fade: Jon Lester ($9,200 DK / $ 8,600 FD)

Lester’s arsenal is rapidly declining, his signature cutter lost a lot of movement last year and his four seam fastball wasn’t effective is the slightest. The four seamer lost a couple ticks of velo that it didn’t have to give away, coming down to a career low 90.8mph. Im going to be fading Lester all year.

MLB DFS: The Bases

On an 9-game slate, there are a ton of different ways to build your offense. Personally, I’m going to take a stand on a few offenses and call it a day. If you’re play MME style of GPPs, you can always get some exposure to more offenses, but for 3-Entry Max and Single Entry GPPs, I’m going to battle with a very limited player pool, as I really want to pick on a couple of starting pitchers and weaker bullpens.

We all know the importance of stacking when play MLB DFS GPPs, so here are my top stacks for the Sunday main slate.

Top Stacks

Houston Astros – Houston should have no problem teeing off against Kendal Graveman and the Mariners. This will be Graveman’s first start since the 2018 season as he missed all of 2019 down recovering from Tommy John.
New York Yankees – The Yankees will be expensive all year and for good reason. The lineup is strong top to bottom and will be a good bet for a couple bombs against the aging Arrieta who lost a lot to his once great sinker.

Value Stacks

Cincinnati Reds– Playing with our fade here, the Reds have yet to turn it on offensively, dropping the opening series to the Tigers. Lester gives them chance to get some runs across the board early.
New York Mets – The Boston staff is thin this year, and they are either rolling out an opener or Phillips Valdez, either way this looks like a great spot to attack.

I’ve got five hitters for you to consider for the early 7/26 MLB DFS 11-game slate in DK GPPs, where it pays to be fearless and swing for the fences!

7/26 MLB DFS – C Robinson Chirinos (DK $3,900) TEX vs. COL

The Rangers offense has been a bit slow out of the gate, but RHBsin that lineup have a favorable matchup vs. LHP Kyle Freeland. One fearless leftymasher who comes at a considerable discount is Chirinos – an ample power sourceat catcher and a guy who often flies under the radar in DFS. If you’re notpaying up for J.T. Realmuto (DK $4,800), Mitch Garver ($4,900) or ChristianVazquez (DK $4,300), Chirinos makes sense as part of a stack or as a one-off tosave a few bucks and get similar upside. *Note: Chirinos battled an ankleinjury near the close of camp and sat out Saturday but looks to be good to gofor today.

7/26 MLB DFS – 1B Joey Votto (DK $3,800) CIN vs. DET

Speaking of discounts, Votto is a relatively inexpensive veteran slugger off to an uncharacteristically hot start, with a couple HRs in his first two games. I’m intrigued by the Reds stack against eminently hittable Spencer Turnbull, who’s been known to issue the occasional free pass and give up the long ball. Spend-up options include Anthony Rizzo (DK $5,000) and one-off Josh Bell (DK $4,900), and the punt-worthy Michael Chavis (DK $2,900) is available at both 1B and 2B – but I’m putting about half my GPP eggs in the Votto basket on the early slate.

7/26 MLB DFS – SS Alex Bregman (DK $4,900) HOU vs. SEA

Thankfully, Bregman is available at both SS and 3B on DK, where there’s a few other guys I’d like to play at the hot corner. The Astros have the second-highest projected total after the Red Sox, and it’s a GPP priority to lock in Bregman and his eye-popping .417 career wOBA vs. LHP against Yusei Kikuchi, a southpaw with a home run problem. Xander Bogaerts (DK $4,600) got the day off Saturday but returns to the BoSox lineup this afternoon, so he’s a viable option as pivot from Bregman, in Boston stacks or alongside Bregman if you plug the latter in at 3B. Red-hot Didi Gregorius (DK $3,500) sticks out as a value option for the Phillies.

7/26 MLB DFS – 3B Mike Moustakas (DK $4,000) CIN vs. DET

I’d like to play both Reds 3B Eugenio Suarez (DK $4,500) and Moustakas on DK, but you have to take your pick since each player is limited to a singular position at the hot corner. While Suarez might see lower ownership, we can probably get our variance elsewhere, as the man who sounds like a delicious Mediterranean casserole comes in with the highest daily simulated projections in the Cincy lineup. He’s the anchor of a 1-2-4-5-6 Reds stack that won’t cost you a bundle, and his upside is similar to more expensive options like Josh Donaldson (DK $4,200) and Rafael Devers (DK $5,200).

7/26 MLB DFS – OF Christian Yelich (DK $5,600) MIL at CHC

I’m on board with using potent Reds leadoff hitter Jesse Winker (DK $3,500) and value option Shogo Akiyama (DK $2,000) – easy-to-fit stack components who could make or break the slate – but my favorite spend-up at OF on DK is Yelich, who annihilated RHPs to the tune of a .473 wOBA and 195 wRC+ in 2019. The Brewers star went 1-for-5 with a dinger in yesterday’s game and we could see the wind blowing out in Wrigley this afternoon. I’m also interested in seeing Joey Gallo (DK $4,300) solve the new roofed park in Texas, so I’ll be mixing in shares of him as well. Yelich is expensive, but my first few builds include him and all of the aforementioned players with Trevor Bauer and Carlos Carrasco at my pitching spots – two of the highest projected starters in the slate.

ANOTHER NOTE: It’s also my 45th birthday today, so taking down one of the big GPPs on DraftKings would be the ultimate present! Good luck… and be fearless!

MLB DFS: Saturday’s Aces and Bases

MLB DFS season is finally here and so is the Aces and Bases from Win Daily Sports. The July 25th edition of Aces and Bases will take on the main 11-game MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. The purpose of this article is to identify our top pitching plays and fades on the slate, in addition to our top offense stacks for your GPP lineups.

Please make sure you keep an eye on the weather and other factors as those are always important things to monitor when playing MLB DFS. Be sure to check out our MLB DFS Projections as well. Without further ado, it’s Aces and Bases time.

MLB DFS: The Aces

Best Value: Corbin Burnes ($6,200 DK / $5,700 FD)

Alright, it’s risky, but he’s damn-near free. Burnes has always been a highly-touted prospect with ELITE swing-and-miss stuff. The problem is, he’s capable of walking the entire lineup and being pulled after two innings. Burnes posted a ridiculous 12.9 K/9 in his inconsistent 2019 season so you always need to keep an eye on him when he’s slated to start.

He’s been lights out thus far in the Brewers’ “Summer Training” and exhibition match-ups and should offer a ton of upside at a low price tag against a Cubs’ lineup that is projected for over a 21% K-rate.

Honorable Mention: Mike Minor

Top Ace(s) FanDuel: Mike Clevinger ($10,400 FD) | Luis Castillo ($9,800 FD) | Lance McCullers ($8,500 DK / $8,000 FD)

Clevinger, Castillo, and McCullers have juicy match ups for their opening performance of the 2020 season. Clevinger is facing off against a feeble Royals offense that shouldn’t put up much of a fight as a now healthy Clevinger should mow down batters on Saturday afternoon (just like Bieber did yesterday).

Staying in the AL central for opponents, Castillo has a uninspiring Tiger lineup that finished the 2019 campaign with a team .240 BA and a sad .294 OBP. Expect Castillo to feed the big cats a steady diet of changeups and produce strikeouts.

McCullers is simply priced way too low going up against a Seattle with an implied total of just 3.45 runs and a slate-high projected K-rate of over 24%. Keep this one simple and use McCullers.

Honorable Mention: Zach Wheeler ($10,100 DK / $9,000 FD)

Punt Play: Alex Wood ($7,800 DK / $7,600 FD)

Alex wood was sitting below 90mph with his fastball last year, and keeping it in the zone about 50% it was hit around quite a bit. Woods has a reported uptick in velo this year which wood (heh) make the fastball much more appealing. His changeup and curve were useful last year, with his curveball just being a few swinging strike points lower (48% in 2020 to 54% in 2017) than his All-Star 2017 season. This looks like some good value against a woeful SF lineup.

Top Fade: Steven Strasburg ($10,000 DK / $ 9,900 FD)

The Nationals are coming off the ultimate high of winning it all in 2019, and Strasburg is primed for another great season, but this Yankee lineup is one to fade all season. I am staying away from the high price and deadly lineup.

Honorable Mention: Lance McCullers

Top Stacks

Los Angeles Dodgers – The dodgers get to beat up the Giants staff this week, the prices will be high, but with great value in pitching on the board over the weekend its possible to get a few of these bats in. Believe me, you want to get some of these bats in against SF.
Houston Astros – The Astros face Taijuan Walker and I can’t think of anything positive to say about him. Houston feasts on fastballs and Walkers is bad, he also games a unreliable split finger that has a career -16pVal. Be aware of crooked numbers early and often courtesy of the Houston bats.

Value Stacks

Cincinnati Reds (FanDuel) – I love this reds team and the middle of their lineup is full of hitters that just take good at bats and have power to boot. With the additions of Castellanos and Moustakas the have as much fire power as they need.
Cleveland Indians (FanDuel) – Sticking with the Franmil Reyes and the tribe over the weekend. You know who else to play from this Cleveland offense, but you can always sneak in salary savers like Domingo Santana, Jordan Luplow, and Cesar Hernandez if you need salary elsewhere.

MLB DFS Strategy: Is BvP Real?

There may not be a bigger debate in the MLB DFS community than whether the idea of BvP is real or not. BvP has caused many arguments in the MLB DFS industry. Touts everywhere have had to draw a line in the sand and declare if they were on #TeamBvP or not.

What is BvP?

What is BvP? It stands for Batter vs Pitcher. Specifically it stands for a batter’s previous performance against a certain pitcher. While the past performance is indeed true, the question of using BvP in DFS goes much further. The real question is if a batter’s past performance against a certain pitcher is a predictor of what will happen in future match-ups. And if we should responsibly use the information for DFS lineup decisions.

So is it real?

So is BvP real in MLB DFS? The answer is it depends. While that is not a definitive answer, it is the right answer. Here is the truth about BvP: It can be used as a stat for lazy touts. These touts can easily reference BvP and it makes them look like they researched the match up and can recommend a player as a good play. But what we must ALWAYS remember is that correlation does not imply causation.

On the other hand, BvP can also be used by very informed touts who are able to better find the correlation and causation to the success for a named batter. To better understand the difference, lets take a look at two cases of a batter and his history against two pitchers.

Case 1: Mike Trout vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu

In his career against left-handed Hyun-Jin Ryu, Mike Trout is 0 – for – 10 with four strikeouts according to R o towire. If you are a strict BvP truther, there is no way you are building your DFS lineup around Mike Trout when Ryu is on the bump, right? But by now you should already be asking yourself if you should really be scared of Hyun-Jin Ryu.

According to FanGraphs, Trout had a .294 ISO, ,408 wOBA and a 161 wRC+ against southpaws in 2019. Sounds like Trout has had plenty of success against lefties so are we still buying the BvP numbers against Ryu?

While taking a look at Ryu’s 3.05 FIP and 3.44 xFIP versus righties in 2019 it is respective but certainly should not turn you immediately off Trout.

And as you dig deeper into the numbers, specifically what Ryu’s pitch selection is, we will see that Trout is very likely long over due for some positive regression against the left-handed pitcher in their next match-up.

According to Brooks Baseball, Ryu throw a fourseam fastball 24% of the time to right-handed batters in 2019. The southpaw also throw a change-up 31% of the time to righties last season.

And don’t you know it, Trout had a .300 ISO against fourseamers and a .556 ISO versus the change in 2019 according to Brooks Baseball. All of a sudden, Trout’s 0-for-10 BvP versus Ryu isn’t so intimidating is it? In this case the correlation just doesn’t fit the causation.

While this is probably another lesson for another day, but this is the perfect opportunity to get Trout at a lower ownership than normal because the lazy touts won’t think Trout is a slam dunk against Ryu because of a lousy 0-for-10 sample.

Case 2: Mike Trout vs. Felix Hernandez

When Felix Hernandez goes to sleep at night, he likely wakes up in a cold sweat courtesy of Mike Trout. The best player in baseball, and arguably MLB DFS, has had Hernandez’s number in their 88 at-bat lopsided battles.

The next time these two are to face-off, every DFS tout will be recommending Trout as perhaps the top play on the slate. And of course, they would be right. Consider though that many of those touts would just reference the BvP as the reason why. But once again, we will see that the correlation is not the causation. But instead, it is the type of pitcher that Hernandez is that leads to Trout’s success against him.

Using the image above it is easy to see that Trout crushes against non-power pitchers as defined by Baseball Reference. And guess what? Hernandez hasn’t been a power pitcher in a long time.

Felix Hernandez’s MPH Numbers Over the Last Two Seasons according to Baseball Savant

In fact he has not averaged over 90 MPH on a pitch type in two seasons. So while Trout would be a great play next time he faces Hernandez, be sure to look past the BvP numbers and see the real reason why.

MLB DFS: BVP Conclusion

While using Mike Trout as an example might be extreme because he is the best hitter in baseball, none the less, these two examples should help you decide which side of the BvP battle you need to be on. You can use the same research process to debunk or confirm the use of a bad hitter with a good BvP history against a certain pitcher.

The lesson here is simple: Dig deeper into the match-ups and numbers. Simply make sure the correlation implies the causation before you buy the hype from lazy touts.

10/26 DFS MLB: DK Showdown(8:07 p.m. EST)

Thegame: World Series Game 4 – Houston Astros at Washington Nationals, 8:07 p.m.EST

The projected implied totals have this game about dead even at4.25 runs apiece. The 8.5 total is the highest of the series so far.

10/26 DFS SP Strategy andGame Notes

A quick word on starting pitching: Patrick Corbin (DK $15,600/$10,400) is worth a look even at his high price for his strikeout upside, but the Astros lineup doesn’t whiff at the rates the Dodgers did, so I’m not nearly as intrigued by his impressive but small-sample 17.58 K/9 rate this postseason. Last night’s winning GPP entries didn’t have any shares of the pitchers, so I’ll be fading both and focusing on adding the right bats. We nailed Victor Robles yesterday and need more of those calls to take down a GPP.

I’ll mix in some shares of Corbin and Jose Urquidy (DK $11,700/$7,800) who’s got some upside but will pitch about 4.0 IP maximum – since he hasn’t reached 50 pitches in either of his postseason outings. Those Urquidy outings have been effective (16.62 K/9, 2.08 ERA, 2.98 FIP in 4.1 IP), but he’d likely need to exceed 12 DK points to make him a viable GPP option, so I’ll have limited exposure.

Let’s get tothe bats.

10/26 DFS Hitters

I’m partial to George Springer, Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez on Houston for their ability to hit Corbin’s main offerings of fastballs and sliders, but since Alvarez sits, we’ll use Michael Brantley. Once again, I’ll have more shares of the Astros in GPPs than Nats hitters. For Washington, I’ll be using larger shares of Soto, Rendon and Eaton, who has multiple hits in three straight games and is almost as expensive as Jose Altuve.

10/26 DFS Washington Nationals bats

Juan Soto (DK $16,200/$10,800)

Soto scuffled abit at the plate last night, but he draws a perfectly exploitable matchupagainst a hittable Astros opener and RHP-only bullpen. I’m not going to fadehim in this spot.

Anthony Rendon (DK $16,500/$11,000)

Rendon destroys fastballs and remains a key part of the Natslineup. He’s just too expensive (the most expensive in the Showdown, actually) touse in every lineup, and there’s better value out there on the Houston sidethis game. But he hasn’t homered since the Dodgers series, so he’s due.

Adam Eaton (DK $13,800/$7,600)

Eaton has multiple hits in there straight and we listed him as avalue play along with Robles. Both were in the winning GPP last night. Whilethe price has come up for the Nats’ two-hitter, he had a .152 ISO vs. RHPs thisseason and he’s on a hot streak – and that’s plenty of reason to keep usinghim.

Spotlight Value: Yan Gomes (DK $8,700/$5,800)

If Kurt Suzuki sits, this is a no-brainer value to mix in. Gomes will be guaranteed ABs at his home park, and despite the fact he likes to hit lefties better (.217 ISO vs. LHPs in 2019) than righties, he’s still sporting a .151 ISO against RHPs – an acceptable figure at this low price. He’s not a must-play, but he’s worth using in GPPs for his power and guaranteed ABs if Suzuki is unavailable. I still like Robles too, but he’s expensive now.

10/26DFS Houston Astros bats

George Springer (DK $14,700/$9,800)

Springer is starting to heat up and make things happenoffensively. He reached base three times last night and had a pair of SBs, andhe matches up extremely well against LHP Patrick Corbin. I think Corbin couldrocked from the first pitch he throws, and Springer has hit 36 leadoff homeruns in his career already.

Alex Bregman (DK$13,500/$9,000)

He’s cheaper than Adam Eaton now. Let that sink in, then plug himinto all your cash games and most of your GPPs. Yesterday’s 0-5 showingfeatured just one K, and he destroys LHPs, so I’m far from fading him.

Jose Altuve (DK $14,100/$9,400)

Altuve is a fine play in GPPs and his price has come down. We can probably build a few lineups stacking the Astros 1-4 hitters at these prices, and filling in with value plays from Washington and/or some low-cost relievers.

Spotlight Value: MichaelBrantley ($10,200/$6,800)

The price on Brantley just refuses to come up, and he’s coming offtwo straight two-hit games – last night’s being the best of the series so far.He does come out of the lineup in the later innings for a defensive replacement,but he can do enough damage in his first three ABs to neutralize that.

10/18 DFS MLB: DK Showdown(7:08 p.m. EST)

10/18 DFS SP Strategy and Picks

Astros ace JustinVerlander has the edge in upside and in most scenarios will go deeper into thisgame than Yankees LHP James Paxton – though the Yankees have a slight edge in theimplied totals. You don’t need both pitchers in this one, and I’ll likely have someexposure to both starters, even with Paxton considerably cheaper.

Justin Verlander (DK $18,000 CPT, $12,000UTIL)

There’s always the possibility that Verlander throws one of his trademark gems against the Bronx Bombers on their home turf, but the righthander’s vulnerability to the long ball makes him a risky option at such a high price. The veteran hurler – a future Hall of Famer who’s posted the highest K/9 rates of his entire 15-year career in 2018 (12.20 K/9) and 2019 (12.11 K/9) – has struggled a bit this postseason but struck out 12 batters in six innings as recently as Sept. 28. If you’re building Verlander lineups with him at Captain, the implication is that you’ll be fading Yankee bats, so you’ll probably need to employ some creativity if you also want the big Houston bats.

James Paxton (DK $12,900 CPT, $8,900 UTIL)

The price is right, and the upside is there, but Paxton hasn’tgiven us his best so far this postseason. He has, however, struck out 11batters in 7 IP, and although the Astros don’t whiff all that often, they’lllikely come out aggressive at the plate with a 3-1 lead in the series. IfPaxton’s stuff is on point, he could easily post double-digit Ks over 5-6innings of work.

10/18 DFS Hitters

Who’s going to be the hero of Game 5, if not one of the startingpitchers? Here are my top hitter picks for the 10/18 DFS Showdown.

10/18 DFS New York Yankees bats

Gleyber Torres (DK $12,300/$8,200))

If he’d come up big with the bases loaded against Ryan Pressly in the fifth inning last night, he’d probably be the odds-on favorite for World Series MVP heading into Game 5, but the 22-year-old is still looking to bolster his batting resume with a standout performance in Yankee Stadium. He’s still slashing .345/.406/.793 this postseason, with the only knock being his relatively futility against Verlander thus far (1-for-12 with 5 Ks).

DJ LeMahieu (DK $13,500/$9,000)

Torres hasn’t had much success against Verlander, but LeMahieuis 5-for-15 career with a homer and just two Ks. He’s got Aaron Judge hitting rightbehind him and should get some pitches to hit as the Yankees leadoff hitter onFriday night.

Gary Sanchez (DK $7,800/$5,200)

He parked one into the left field stands last night and is massively underpriced – even in this difficult matchup against Verlander, who has owned him (2-for-19, 5 Ks). Gary is still pretty scary, though, and he’ll be a chalky value play in this Showdown. It’ll be interesting to see if Aaron Boone moves him up a little further in the lineup tonight.

Other options: Didi Gregorius (DK $8,100/$5400), Aaron Judge ($11,400/$7,600), Aaron Hicks ($8,400/$5,600)

10/18 DFS Houston Astros bats

George Springer (DK $14,100/$9,400)

Last night’s homer – Springer’s 13th career postseason HR in 166 at-bats – was a powerful statementby the leadoff man that he’s ready for another big night in Game 5, and hismatchup against Paxton and subsequent relievers should give him plenty of chancesto make his mark. The price is high, but he’ll be the main Astros hitter I havein my builds.

Carlos Correa ($12,600/$8,400)

Like Springer, Correa hit his second homer of the postseasonand the 10^th of his postseason career. Springer and Correa form quitethe power tandem, as that was sixth time those two have homered in the samegame in the postseason – an all-time MLB record, according to a tweet by STATS.Correa has good numbers vs. LHP (138 career wRC+, .371 wOBA) and Paxton in particular(9-for-22 career).

Jose Altuve (DK $15,000/$10,000)

It’ll be tough to fit in Altuve at the Captain spot, but he’scertainly viable in Astros-heavy lineups that fade Verlander. He’s slashing.351/.385/.730 this postseason with four homers and seven runs scored in just39 plate appearances.

Justin Verlander Under 7.5 Strikeouts & James Paxton Over 4.5 Strikeouts (3x WIN)

Verlander would normally be a pretty safe bet to reach eight Ks, but the more the Yankees see of the veteran, the more they’ll provide excellent ABs. I expect Verlander to challenge hitters in Game 5 and as a result, there will be more balls put in play early in counts.

We’re also counting on Paxton giving us his best stuff. As I mentioned before, he’s whiffed 11 batters in 7 IP this postseason, and I expect him to go a little deeper into this game than he did in Game 2.

It’s a busy Monday in the MLB postseason, so let’s jump right into the 10/7 DFS picks for the four-game slate and the featured Showdown contests on DraftKings.

The games: Houston Astros at Tampa Bay Rays (1:05 p.m. EST), Atlanta Braves at St. Louis Cardinals (3:07 p.m.), Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals (6:40 p.m.) and New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins (8:40 p.m. EST)

SP Strategy and Picks

There should be enough value in the bats to allow us to use my two favorite pitchers in this slate.

SP1: Luis Severino (DK $8,600, FD $8,400)

It’s been about a year since Severino took the mound in theplayoffs, the last time a disastrous outing against the Red Sox in which he gaveup six runs in three-plus innings in the ALDS, but this is his redemption tour.He’s been electric (12.75 K/9, 2.13 FIP) since returning from injury and shouldbe fresh, last pitching in a three-inning,72-pitch outing against the Rangers on Sept. 28. Sevy is affordable and makesfor a fine SP1 if he can throw about 80-85 pitches.

SP2:Zack Greinke (DK $9,100, FD 10,300)

Greinke was 8-1 with a 3.02 ERA in 10 starts after beingacquired from the D-backs in a July trade, going 18-5 with a 2.93 ERA for the2019 season. He even carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning of his finalregular-season start on Sept. 25 in Seattle and shouldn’t need his best stuffto dispatch this Rays team that’s been struggling at the plate and has animplied run total under 4.

Other options: Dallas Keuchel/Julio Teheran (value), Charlie Morton, Max Scherzer

10/7 DFS Hitters

10/7 DFS C: Brian McCann (DK $3,200, FD$2,600)

He’s cheap and has power upside, with a .343 xWOBA against RHPs over his last two seasons. McCann has plenty of playoff experience and already has a couple hits this series. The Braves are a talented bunch and McCann is a fearless team leader. Pivot: Gary Sanchez

10/7 DFS 1B: Paul Goldschmidt, STL (DK$4,200, FD $3,900)

We’regetting a legendary playoff performer at a huge discount here, and he’s facingthe team with the worst pitching – so that’s a huge reason I’m leaning towardGoldschmidt. He put up somesolid numbers and metrics (145 wRC+ and .313 ISO) this season and is mypreferred 1B on this slate. Pivot: Freddie Freeman

10/7 DFS 2B: D.J. LeMahieu, NYY (DK $4,800,3B on FD $3,900)

I’ve toutedhim before in this column and he’s been awesome thus far in the postaseason,with four hits (three XBH) in nine ABs and a homer and 4 RBI. There are someother folks I want to play at 3B on DK, so plug him in at second base on thatsite and UTIL on FD. Pivot: Max Muncy

10/7 DFS 3B: Anthony Rendon, WAS (DK $4,500,FD $4,300)

Plugging in Alex Bregman here is fine, but Charlie Morton should help to limit the amount of damage the Astros do in this game, so I’m using Rendon against LHP Rich Hill. Rendon has three hits in his last two games and Hill isn’t the dominating force he was in previous seasons. With a .289 ISO against LHPs over his last couple of seasons, Rendon — who was REALLY hot when the season started and could be getting going again — has me stuck on him here. Pivot: Gio Urshela/Josh Donaldson

10/7 DFS SS: Didi Gregorius, NYY (DK $3,900,FD $3,300)

When Didi gets hot, he’s a dangerous hitter, and we get him at a very affordable price. His grand slam in Game Two put the contest out of reach for the Twins and gives Sir Didi the requisite confidence to set aside some of his struggles and produce in this circular Yankees lineup. Pivot: Danby Swanson

10/7 DFS OF: Nick Markakis, ATL (DK $3,500,FD $2,800)

Spending down a little more at the corner infield positions allows you some more expensive OF, but I’ll be looking for some value in my outfield and Markakis is the perfect play at this price. He had a double in Game 1 and sits nicely in the Braves lineup between the dangerous Josh Donaldson and lefty-mashing Matt Joyce. Solid numbers against RHPs (.817 OPS, .387 xWOBA over his last two seasons) clinch it for me. Pivot: Michael Brantley/Max Kepler

10/7 DFS OF: Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (DK $3,900,FD $3,700)

Stanton is hitless in the postseason and is still scoring fantasy points – largely because pitchers are afraid of throwing him anything near the strike zone and hes drawing walks, even with the bases loaded! The big fella is still getting in good ABs and is ready to bust out facing an overmatched Jake Odorizzi. Pivot: Aaron Judge/Eddie Rosario

10/7 DFS OF: Brett Gardner, NYY (DK $4,100,FD $3,000)

Lets go right back to the well with Gardy, who’s been hot at the plate over the past few weeks and offers immense upside in the heart of the Yankees lineup. He gets us just under the salary line at his reasonable price point and will be looking to finish off this series with the help of his lively bat. Pivot: Marwin Gonzalez/Josh Reddick

I may fade the pitchers in this game entirely given the probableextensive use of both bullpens. I’m fine using Severino in the classic format,but he might be a little overpriced for Showdown.

9/24 DFS Hitting Stacks of the Day

Red Sox at Edinson Vólquez/Ariel Jurado

The Red Sox shouldn’t have problems getting to either Vólquez, who’s having a last hurrah in the big leagues before retiring, or Jurado, who has a 5.73 ERA this season and has trouble getting Ks. You may want to skip Betts, who’s been getting rest since coming back from a foot injury, but grab shares of J.D. Martinez, Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts and some of the more inexpensive bats (Mitch Moreland, Brock Holt, Jackie Bradley) that should help you make salary. I think the 2-5 plus Christian Vazquez (the projected 7 hitter) might be my favorite stack among the Red Sox bats.

Houston Astros at Justin Dunn/Tommy Milone

The Astros are always worth looking to considering their 121 team wRC+ and .349 wOBA, but they face a couple mashable pitchers and you don’t have to worry about splits since they rake just about everybody. Get some shares of the red-hot George Springer (three HRs on Sunday) as well as Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yuri Gurriel and Yordan Alvarez. they have the highest implied total among the teams with set lines so far.

TorontoBlue Jays at Dylan Bundy

These teams have been bashing each other’s brains in, and while I prefer the Blue Jays side of this offensive tilt, the entire game stack is in play. It’s been a GPP winner recently, so I have no qualms about rolling out the usual suspects again: Cavan Biggio, Randal Grichuk, Rowdy Tellez, and value bats like Brandon Drury and Teoscar Hernandez – especially if Lourdes Gurriel, Jr. (illness) sits for a second consecutive day.

9/24 DFS Hitting Stacks to Consider

Chicago Cubs at Mitch Keller – The Cubs are nearly out of the playoff picture thanks to the Cardinals, but for 9/24 DFS you shouldn’t consider them officially dead yet – and they’re a bunch who can still pile on the runs. The Pirates home park isn’t the best venue for stacks, so ownership should be relatively low.

Atlanta Braves at Danny Duffy – Plenty of bats to like for this potent Braves lineup facing the lefty in Kansas City, you’ll just have to leave out a couple since they’re all so good. I may be fading the Yankees in Tampa, but I’m not worried about the Braves against a hittable pitcher in the heartland.

Cleveland Indians vs. Hector Santiago – The Indians aren’t as consistent as the Braves offensively, but they have a bunch of lefty mashers with a special affinity for Santiago. The implied run total is over 5.5, which means you should have shares of the 1-5 bats along with some exposure to Franmil Reyes and Jordan Luplow. I might take a wait-and-see approach with Jose Ramirez, who’s set to be activated from the IL.

Oakland Athletics at Dillon Peters – The A’s aren’t as good against LHPs (.305 team wOBA), but it’s a viable contrarian stack to consider for 9/24 DFS. The implied total is also over 5.5 runs and seems a bit high — so tread lightly with this bunch.

9/24 DFS Hitting Catcher

Christian Vazquez, BOS at TEX

DK ($4,600) FD($3,200)

Vazquez got a day off yesterday against the Rays, but he should beback in the lineup Tuesday in Texas. He’s got 3 homers in his last seven gamesand his overall numbers in 2019 have been impressive: .273/.316/.472 with 22 HRs.Digging a little deeper, we find a .232 road ISO, with 14 of his dingers comingaway from Fenway Park.

9/24 DFS Hitting First Baseman

Carlos Santana, CLE at DET

DK (4,900) FD ($4,000)

Santana is having a career year, and I’m plugging him into most ofmy GPP builds against Hector Santiago. Hisseason slash sits at .288/.403/.529 with a 139 wRC+ and he’s destroying LHPsthis season (1.015 OPS, 162 wRC+ and .421 wOBA). There are many ways to go at1B on this slate, but Santana is my bet for a monster game.

9/24 DFS Hitting Second Baseman

Cavan Biggio, TOR at BAL

DK ($4,900) FD ($3,700)

Did you expect me to play some other than Biggio? He hit anotherbomb last night and has ben raking every time I use him in GPPs – from lastTuesday’s cycle and Thursday’s home run to helping me spike some decent cashesin last night’s Rally contests on FanDuel. He’s way too cheap on that site andhis price tag on DK should keep him from being chalk – especially with so manyhigh-priced arms.

9/24 DFS Hitting Third Baseman

Manny Machado, SD vs. LAD (3B/SS on DK)

(DK $3,700) FD($3,000)

It’s been a disappointing season for Machado, but he’d like to endit with some standout performances against his old team, the Dodgers. The price is rightfor Machado, and using him as a one-off or with OF Hunter Renfroe ($4,000 onDK, $3,100 on FD) – who’s another viable Padres power hitter with a 132 wRC+against LHPs – makes a lot of sense if you’re trying to find some value and buildingmultiple lineups.

Seger is finally hitting his groove as we near the postseason, andnow is a great time to plug him in at SS in the 9/24 DFS main slate. 9/24 DFS Hitting Outfielders

Cody Bellinger, LOS at SD (1B/OF on DK)

DK ($4,800) FD($3,200)

Cody might just ring that bell again on Tuesday night against “BadRonald” Bolanos, who’s given up three homers in 14 innings. Bellinger’s 166wRC+ and ridiculous .314/.414/.641 slash line vs. RHPs means he’ll be in all thelineups I can afford him in, regardless of the venue and the fact he’s on the road(149 wRC+ in away games this season).

Ronald Acuna, Jr., ATL at KC

DK ($5,300) FD ($4,400)

He makes for a fine one-off if you’re not using the Braves stack, and he’s putting up obscene numbers against both LHPs and RHPs. Another interesting stat about Acuna is that he’s slashing a robust .281/.370/.510 with a 125 wRC+ at home and .279/.361/.527 with a 128 wRC+on the road. There’s not a day that I don’t consider him, even against the league’s top pitchers and regardless of the lofty price tag.

Austin Hays, BAL at TOR
DK ($3,800) FD ($2,700)

Hays had a monster night in Toronto on Monday and he’s once again in a good spot facing a lefty. The 24-year-old slugger is slashing .302/.362/.535 in the 15 games he’s played in the majors, and he’s still very inexpensive on both sites. If he’s in the Orioles lineup on Tuesday, I’ll be grabbing shares.
