9/19 DFS Hitting Stacks ofthe Day

Minnesota Twins vs. Mike Montgomery

The Twins were a total dud on Wednesday night against the fullWhite Sox bullpen, scoring just one run on three hits across nine boringinnings. Today is a great day for a rebound, as the Royals left-hander can beexposed by hitters from both sides of the plate. Montgomery has been a reversesplits pitcher this season, yielding an amusing .443/.464/.709 slash toopposing LHBs. Over the course of his whole career, the disparity isn’t as noticeable.I like all the Twins here, since they brutalize lefties (.287/.353/.523 slash,.363 wOBA and a 127 wRC+) and will be starting my stacks with Eddie Rosario,Nelson Cruz and Mitch Garver (who’s an insane $5,600 on DK). Add in Miguel Sanoor C.J. Cron on FD and Jorge Polanco on DK.

New York Yankees vs. Andrew Heaney (DK)

I was little concerned about the Yankees rolling out an unorthodoxlineup with the division clinched, but Tampa came back and beat the Dodgers! They’llbe hungry for their 100th win of the season and thirsty forchampagne on their home turf, but they’ll be facing a left-hander who’s pitchedquite well in 2019. Their salaries are a little low because of the matchup, butHeaney isn’t enough to keep me off them. I’ll be using a lot of Mike Clevinger withMasahiro Tanaka/Kyle Gibson/Drew Verhagen, so there will be plenty of combosthat will allow me to stack D.J. LeMahieu ($4,600), Gleyber Torres ($4,700), AaronJudge ($4,500), Gio Urshela ($4,300) and Luke Voit ($4,400) though I’ll only begrabbing a few shares of Giancarlo Stanton at his outrageous price ($5,400)

Toronto Blue Jays at Gabriel Ynoa

I said Tuesday the Blue Jays would be a sneaky stack, and CavanBiggio responded by hitting for the cycle. They’re not as sneaky this timearound, since they battled with Baltimore last night as the teams combined for21 runs. Ynoa is 1-8 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.40 WHIP, and he’s given up 25 homeruns in just 100.1 IP. All the usual suspects make sense here, with the 1-5hitters as the priority bats.

9/19 DFS Hitting Stacks to Consider

Cleveland Indians vs. Daniel Norris/Drew VerHagen

St. Louis Cardinals at Kyle Hendricks (contrarian)

9/19 DFS HittingCatcher

Austin Romine, NYY vs. LAA

DK ($3,600)

Pay $2,000 more for Mitch Garver on DK if you want, but if youwant some cheap exposure to the Yankees, blend Romine into your Yankees stacks. He’s slashing .281/.312/.438 this season and sports an impressive .172 ISO vs.LHPsthis season. Romine isn’t the most exciting option, but we need to save a littleit of salary somewhere, and if we’re not paying way up or Garver, Romine makessense.

9/19 DFS Hitting FirstBaseman

Rowdy Tellez or JustinSmoak, TOR at BAL

DK (both$3,900)   FD ($2,600/$2,700)

Since Tellez sat on Tuesday and ruined all my work recommendinghim, I’ll bring you up to speed: Rowdy scored three runs on Wednesday and isstill destroying right-handed pitching (.209 ISO this season). It’s usuallyeither him or Justin Smoak in the lineup, and I like them both in Baltimore’sbandbox. Smoak boasts a .231 ISO vs. RHPs in 2019.

9/19 DFS Hitting SecondBaseman

Cavan Biggio, TOR at BAL

DK ($5.300)   FD($3,900)

Biggio hit for the cycle on Tuesday and is the one Jays bat I wantin all my GPP lineups. I touted is speed and power abilities and he respondedby doing what five-tool platers do – mashing and slashing. Biggio is 14-for-29 overhis last seven games with 133 DK points over that span (19 FPPG). And his .112wRC+ this season is in the top 10 among 2B.

9/19 DFS Hitting ThirdBaseman

D.J. LeMahieu, NYY vs. LAA

(DK $4,600)

LeMahieu is having an MVP-caliber season for the Yankeeswith a wRC+ of 136 and a torrid slash line of .329/.378/.515. He’s ben their steadiestplayer and has flashed impressive power (.186 ISO) against both LHPs and RHPs. His.402 wOBA and 154 wRC+ in Yankee Stadium is tops on the team, and he’ll be inmost of my lineups tonight.

9/19 DFSHitting Shortstop

Gleyber Torres, NYY vs. LAA

DK ($4,700)

Lindor was a complete disappointment Tuesday, so I’ll be goingback to him in about 2/10 lineups, but the rest of them will have shares of Torresat SS or 2B, where he’s also eligible. Torres has a .255 ISO, .353 OBP, .369wOBA and 132 wRC+ vs. LHPs in 2019, and he’s now hitting in the heart of the Yankeeslineup.

 9/19 DFS HittingOutfielders

Eddie Rosario, MIN vs. KC

DK ($4,800)   FD($3,200)

You can’t keep a great hitter down for long, and Rosario(.281/.313/.453 slash vs. LHPs in 2019) is a solid GPP play because he’ll onlybe in about half of the Twins stacks because he’s a lefty bat against a southpaw– a great opportunity against a guy like Montgomery. The Royals starter mightget pulled for a righty after he gets lit up by these Twins, and then your shortsightedDFS opponents will be kicking themselves for not having more exposure to Rosario’s.378 xwOBA against RHPs since 2018.

Aaron Judge, NYY vs. LAA

DK($4,500)

It’s hard to believe this price on Judge, who went deep again onWednesday, but it’s something I’ll be taking advantage of in cash games andGPPS alike. Judge brutalizes lefties, with a .461 wOBA in 120 PA this season, including .347/.467/.663 slash and 8 homers. He hits the ball as hard as anyonewho’s ever played the game, as he sits in the 100th percentile forExit Velocity and Hard Hit %. Get him in there – he’s primed for a monster day.

Marcell Ozuna, STL vs. CHC

DK ($4,200)   FD($3,700)

Ozuna has been relatively quiet lately, so he’s really cheap. Healso has .382 xwOBA this year and has been a much better road hitter this seasonwith a .262/.336/.519 slash and 15 of his 28 HRs in away games. Ozuna also ranksin the 93th percentile for Exit Velocity and 98th percentile forHard Hit % — and makes for a nice contrarian play vs.  a capable hurler in Kyle Hendricks.

Additional options:

C: Reese McGuire ($3,900 DK, $2,800 FD), Mitch Garver ($5,600 DK,$3,000 FD)

1B: Carlos Santana ($4,700 DK, $3,800 FD), C.J. Cron ($3,900 DK, $2,800FD)

3B: Gio Urshela ($4,300 DK) Vladimir Guerrero Jr, ($4,100 DK,$2,900 FD)

2B: Jonathan Villar ($4,800 DK, $3,600 FD), Luis Arraez ($4,200DK, $2,700 FD)

SS: Bo Bichette ($5,400 DK, $3,900 FD), Jorge Polance ($4,800 DK, $3,300FD)

OF: Whit Merrifield ($4,500 DK, $3,300 FD), Anthony Santander ($3,900 DK, $3,100 FD), Trey Mancini ($4,900 DK, $3,800 FD), Brett Gardner ($4,300 DK), Randal Grichuk ($4,500 DK, $3,000 FD), Dexter Fowler ($3,600 DK, $2,900 FD)

8/8 MLB DFS Hitting Stacks and Picks

There’s only eight games on the schedule, and since each will be played under the lights, it will give you time to consider how to load your lineup with 8/8 MLB DFS bargain plays and stacks (besides the obvious one in Yankee Stadium). There’s at least two games with the stench of poor lineups along with a game or two that will produce a sleeper.Top 8/8 MLB DFS Stack: New York Yankees: Blue Jays starter Thomas Pannone has a 7.48 ERA on the road and a 48.1% fly ball rate. Wrong place, wrong time, Thomas. You can start your Pinstripe stack with blistering hot Mike Tauchman ($3,300 at FanDuel), who opened the week with three homers and five RBI. Brett Gardner ($3,000) is hitting .417 with a pair of homers and five ribbies over the past week, and there should be enough available to add Gio Urshela ($3.500), who returned to the lineup on Wednesday to go 3-for-5 with a pair of bombs and four RBI. If Austin Romine gets the start, get greedy and add his $2,700 to the line, as he’s homered in each of his last two starts.Chicago Cubs 8/8 MLB DFS Stack: Entering Wednesday’s play, the Cubs were batting a composite .295/.356/.515 over the past seven days with 10 homers and 26 RBI. Those numbers should remain on point as they play at hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark and face Alex Wood, who has allowed three homers in his first two starts. Obviously, Javier Baez ($5,100 at DraftKings) will cost, but you’ll pay considering he’s hit .400 with three homers and nine ribbies over the last week. Kris Bryant ($4,300) also comes with a stiff sticker price, but he’s destroyed Reds pitching (.356, three homers, 1.130 OPS) this season. Kyle Schwarber ($4,500) is another high-priced bat, but he’s homered five times against Cincinnati this season.Detroit Tigers 8/8 MLB DFS Stack: Don’t laugh, but there’s some value in this lineup. Brandon Dixon ($3,100 at FanDuel) is hitting .357 over the past week with a homer and a stolen base to boot. Miguel Cabrera ($3,100) has a .346 average over the same span while also swatting a homer. Cabrera is hidden gold when the Tigers are at home. The ever-versatile Niko Goodrum is batting .333 with six RBI and comes in with a reasonable $3,200 salary. Now that we’ve stacked, I suppose you’ll want to get some more hitting into your system. Give ‘em what they want, right?8/8 DFS Hitting CatcherFrancisco Mejia, SD vs. COLDK ($3,200) FD ($2,200)The highly-touted bat is coming alive. Mejia has consecutive three-hit games and hit his fifth homer of the season on Wednesday. He’s slowly getting his hard contact rate on the upswing (32.7%) while quietly going .302/.351/.453 since the All-Star Break. Rockies pitcher Jon Gray has a 4.17 ERA outside of Coors Field and has allowed four of his 18 homers to Padres hitting.8/8 MLB DFS Hitting 1BMiguel Cabrera, DET vs. KCDK ($3,500), FD (3,100)As mentioned earlier, Cabrera is a solid hitter at Comerica Park, where he slashes at .351/.410/.446. His strong start to the month has seen him produce a 1.049 OPS in his first 22 at-bats. With Danny Duffy on the DL, the Royals will pitch Jorge Lopez, who makes his first start since May 28. Lopez will serve as the opener for K.C., but it doesn’t matter considering he’s allowed 10 homers in 48.2 innings on the road.8/8 MLB DFS Hitting 2BJon Berti, MIA vs. ATLFD ($4,200), DK ($3,000)The journeyman is making the most of his extended trip to The Show with four multi-hit games in his last five starts. Berti has a 1.087 OPS and will continue to keep highly-touted Isan Diaz on the bench. He’s become a line drive machine, hitting them at a 29.5% rate. The Braves will start the Bad version of Dallas Keuchel, as in the one who has a 4.71 road ERA and has allowed opposing batters to hit .301 against him outside of Atlanta. 8/8 MLB DFS Hitting 3BVladimir Guerrero, Jr. TOR vs. NYYFD ($4,500), DK ($3,700)He’s finally brought his OPS above .800 (.803) as Guerrero opened August with 11 hits in 26 at-bats that includes five extra base hits. What makes him interesting here is whether he become more consistent at home, where he’s hitting .254 with four of his 13 homers coming at Rogers Centre. Guerrero is batting .243 with a homer against New York pitching. Still, the one number that’s intriguing is the .390 OBP he’s established since the ASB, a clear sign The Chosen One is starting to get it. 8/8 MLB DFS Hitting SSBo Bichette, TOR vs. NYYFD ($4,400), DK ($3,800)Bichette has doubled in eight straight games; 11 of his first 18 hits have gone for extra bases, and it doesn’t hurt that Bichette has a stolen base to his credit. Yankees starter Domingo German is 14-2 overall but has been addicted to giving up dingers, as he’s allowed at least two homers in three of his last four starts. German is also suspect on the road, where his 5.60 ERA is more than double the 2.19 ERA he’s posted in New York. 8/8 MLB DFS Hitting OutfieldersRonald Acuna, Jr. ATL at MIADK ($5,300), FD (4,300)He’s now one homer and four steals away from going 30-30, damn nifty for a 21-year old who’ll get some serious MVP consideration that Cody Bellinger and Christian Yelich won’t hoard. Acuna is locked in, hitting .357/.400/.750 in 28 at-bats this month. As good as his numbers were in the first half, Acuna has been filthy since the break with a .302/.373/.538 slash and a .911 OPS. He loves Marlins pitching, having hit four runs against them this season with a .916 OPS. Jorge Soler, KC at DETDK ($4,200), FD ($3,200)Speaking of impressive second halves, Soler’s .309/.436/.667 (1.103 OPS) would garner more attention if he were playing almost anywhere outside of Kansas City. Soler has raised his walk rate to 9.7% while adding 75 points to his Isolated Power total (.277). He’s never going to win a batting crown, but his reduction in pulling the ball from 53.2% last season to 45.8% this year has helped make him a more complete hitter.Aristides Aquino, CIN vs. CHCDK ($3,800), FD ($2,900)Aquino is swinging the bat in almost the same manner another #44 in a Reds uniform once did. He’s still light years from Eric Davis, but Aquino has a pair of homers and five RBI in his first 16 at-bats and is hitting the ball hard to the tune of a 50% hard contact rate. Aquino is a cheap option with a great upside playing in Great American Ball Park.

8/7 DFS Hitting Catcher

Carson Kelly, ARI vs. PHI

DK ($3,900)   FD ($2,600)

I don’t like to tout myself but every time I recommend Kelly, he seems to homer. It’s easy to see why when you look at his splits, with Kelly providing a .383 AVG, .471 OBP, .767 SLG and 1.238 OPS against left-handers so far this season. That’s why he’ll always find his way into my articles when he gets the platoon advantage in his favor and these are some of the most underappreciated splits in the game. Getting to face Jason Vargas is only a bonus, with the Phillies lefty posting an xFIP north of 5.00 so far this season.

8/7 DFS Hitting First Basemen

Jose Abreu, CWS at DET

DK ($4,000)   FD ($3,800)

This DK price is really surprising and it’s a wonder why one of the most consistent players in baseball has seen such a drastic price drop. We’re talking about a player who’s a guarantee for 30 homers and 100 RBI every year and he’s on pace to surpass those numbers yet again this season. While this price is fantastic, we have to like this matchup too. Tyler Alexander has only thrown 22 innings in the Majors, which is scary when you consider his 4.98 ERA and 1.46 WHIP dating back to 2016 at the minors.  It also puts the platoon advantage in Abreu’s favor and he’s got a .944 OPS against lefties since 2017.

8/7 DFS Hitting Second Basemen

Keston Hiura, MIL at PIT

DK ($4,600)   FD ($3,100)

This is one of those cases where I like Hiura on one site and not another. This DraftKings price is much more indicative of the guy we’ve seen and that makes this FanDuel price an absolute bargain. We’re talking about a guy who’s generating a .299 AVG, .560 SLG and .928 OPS. That’s really no surprise when you look at his 1.095 OPS at Triple-A this season and he’s simply one of the most dangerous second basemen in the league. Getting to face Trevor Williams only adds to Hiura’s value, with him pitching to a 6.64 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over his last seven starts.

8/7 DFS Hitting Third Basemen

Josh Donaldson, ATL at MIN

DK ($4,800)   FD ($3,600)

Donaldson has returned to his MVP form as of late and it’s done wonders for the Braves. Over his last 28 games, Donaldson has 11 homers and 19 RBI en route to a .415 OBP, .667 SLG and 1.081 OPS. That’s the stud that we’ve been waiting for and that doesn’t even take into consideration that he gets to face a lefty here. For his career, Donaldson has a .571 SLG and .954 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor. It happens to be a weak lefty too, with Martin Perez pitching to a 4.58 ERA and 1.40 WHIP this season.

8/7 DFS Hitting Shortstop

Manny Machado, SD at SEA

DK ($4,300)   FD ($4,000)

Machado is one of the hottest hitters in the game and he’s always tough to fade whenever he faces a left-hander. Since a series in Colorado in the middle of June, Machado is hitting .330 over his last 42 games while generating a .653 SLG and 1.027 OPS in that span. It’s really no surprise when you look at his numbers against lefties, with Machado posting a .391 AVG, .484 OBP, .823 SLG and 1.307 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor this season. That’s obviously ridiculous production and it really makes him enticing against Yusei Kikuchi’s 5.49 ERA and 1.48 WHIP.

8/7 DFS Hitting Outfielders

Yordan Alvarez, HOU vs. COL

DK ($5,500)   FD ($4,100)

This dude is simply absurd and his majestic blast on Tuesday shows just how much power this kid has. We’re talking about a guy who has 13 homers and 41 RBI in just 41 games played en route to a .340 AVG. That’s really no surprise when you see his .343 AVG and 1.185 OPS at Triple-A this season and it’s clear this kid is going to be a threat for years to come. What makes him particularly scary here is this matchup, as he gets the platoon advantage against Peter Lambert and his 5.71 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.

Hunter Renfroe, SD at SEA

DK ($4,300)   FD ($3,000)

Much like Machado, Renfroe has made minced meat of left-handers all season long. In fact, the big outfielder has a .738 SLG and 1.049 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor this season. That’s why this club has mashed lefties all season long and Renfroe actually has an OPS north of .950 against southpaws for his career. Getting to face Kikuchi may be the best part of this play though, with the Seattle southpaw pitching to a 7.65 ERA and 1.91 WHIP over his last eight starts.

Stephen Piscotty, OAK at CHC

DK ($3,400)   FD ($3,000)

This is a strange play but Piscotty has been abusing left-handers all season long. In fact, Piscotty’s .952 OPS against southpaws this season is 300 points higher than his OPS against righties. That’s why he’s typically in the heart of the order under these circumstances and Jose Quintana is not really a pitcher we need to worry about. In fact, the Cubs lefty has a 4.40 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, which are some of the worst numbers of his career.

Monkey Knife Fight Pick of the Day

Gerrit Cole Over 7.5 Strikeouts

We are talking about the league leader in strikeouts and K rate facing an offense that sits 26th in K rate, 29th in road OPS and last in road OBP. This prop should be two Ks higher than it is.

Today marks the trade deadline, so it’s going to be one of the most bizarre slates of the season. That means we’ll have a bunch of funky lineups and potential scratches, so be sure to check everything before submitting lineups. With that in mind, let’s get into our 7/31 DFS Hitting picks.

7/31 DFS Hitting Picks

7/31 DFS Hitting Catcher

James McCann, DET at LAA

DK ($3,400)   FD ($2,700)

McCann really deserves more credit for what he’s done this season, as he’s truly established himself as one of the best hitting catchers in the game. That’s made crystal clear by his .283 AVG and .800 OPS, which are easily career-high numbers. His numbers against lefties have been even better, with McCann providing a .359 OBP, .519 SLG and .877 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor. That makes these price tags really hard to figure, especially against a guy with a 5.35 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.

7/31 DFS Hitting First Base

Justin Smoak, TOR at KC

DK ($3,900)   FD ($3,300)

Smoak has been a regular in my articles over recent weeks and recent results indicate that we’ve been getting things right. The simple fact is, this dude is inevitably due for some positive regression. His .342 wOBA and .427 SLG are way off of his .389 xwOBA and .513 xSLG. Those indicators tell us that this is one of the most dangerous bats in the game and his form since the All-Star break shows just that. Over his last 13 games, Smoak has four homers, nine runs scored, nine RBI and 11 walks en route to a .396 OBP and .548 SLG. That’s huge against a guy like Jakob Junis, as that puts Smoak on his favorable left side versus a pitcher with a 5.03 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.

7/31 DFS Hitting Second Base

Max Muncy, LAD at COL

DK ($5,600)   FD ($4,400)

After a couple of value plays, let’s get some studs in there for you to build off of. Muncy is just that, as his .290 ISO, .381 OBP, .555 SLG and .936 OPS since joining L.A. last season makes him one of the best bats in the game. Those fantastic numbers are even better against right-handers and his numbers in Coors Field are more ridiculous. In 55 at-bats in Coors Field, Muncy has four doubles, nine homers and 22 RBI en route to a .927 SLG and 1.343 OPS. He faces a pitcher who’s really struggling at home this season too, with German Marquez posting a 7.07 ERA and 1.70 WHIP at Coors.

7/31 DFS Hitting Third Base

Alex Bregman, HOU at CLE

DK ($5,200)   FD ($3,800)

The power potential from this kid is simply amazing and we have to like the Astros against a pitcher like Adam Plutko. The Indians right-hander is currently pitching to a 4.83 ERA and 6.21 FIP, which is truly scary against one of the best lineups in baseball. That’s why Houston is projected for more than five runs and Bregman should play a huge part of that. The little third baseman is currently generating a .520 SLG and .913 OPS, as he’s also got a .404 OBP over his last 21 games.

7/31 DFS Hitting Shortstop

Javier Baez, CHC at STL

DK ($4,600)   FD ($4,000)

It was tough to find value plays among the shortstops but Baez is too cheap. This guy has done nothing but rake since joining the Cubs and he’s particularly enticing in this circumstance. While Miles Mikolas is a solid pitcher, his inability to strike people out really adds to Baez’ value. The 29 percent K rate for Baez is one of the only things that’s slowed him down but Mikolas’ 17 percent K rate limits Baez’s risk. If you’re guaranteeing me that this talented hitter will get the ball in play four times, I’ll take those odds at this price tag. Baez is feeling it right now too, accruing three doubles, three homers, 11 runs scored and two steals over his last nine games played.

7/31 DFS Hitting Outfielders

J.D. Martinez, BOS vs. TB

DK ($4,900)   FD ($4,100)

Don’t look now but Martinez is starting to heat up. Much like Smoak, this is a guy who’s due for some serious positive regression, as his indicators are some of the best in the game. In fact, Martinez .408 xwOBA and .588 xSLG rank him Top-20 in the game and it’s really no surprise that he’s starting to heat up. Over the last nine games, Martinez is hitting .375 while providing a .750 SLG and 1.155 OPS. There’s also a good chance that he’ll face a lefty here and that’s really frightening when you see his 1.301 OPS against southpaws this season.

Ian Desmond, COL vs. LAD

DK ($4,200)   FD ($3,400)

Desmond has quietly had a resurgent season for the Rockies and he’s really one of the only Coors Field bats that comes at a value. Since May 7, Desmond is hitting .308 while generating a .925 OPS. That’s all you can ask for from someone in such a friendly ballpark and most of that damage has actually come against left-handed pitching. In fact, Desmond has a .975 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor. Hyun-Jin Ryu is a scary pitcher but his 9.15 ERA and 2.32 WHIP in five starts at Coors shows that no one is safe from those dimensions.

Justin Upton, LAA vs. DET

DK ($3,800)   FD ($3,500)

Upton has been very disappointing this season since his return from the IL but he’s got way too much potential to be priced below $4,000 on DK. We’re talking about a guy who has a career .355 wOBA and career .209 ISO. This is a 31-year-old who still has a ton in the tank and it’s just a matter of time before he gets hot. Facing a weak lefty like Daniel Norris is a good way to start, with the Detroit southpaw pitching to a 4.89 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Those ugly numbers are going to make it tough to get Upton out, as he has a .230 ISO and .366 wOBA against left-handed pitching for his career.

Monkey Knife Fight Pick of the Day

Play MLB Player Prop Games and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Jakob Junis Over 4.5 Strikeouts

Junis is too good of a pitcher to be struggling the way he is and the K upside is huge here. This is a guy who has a 22 percent K rate and has struck out at least four batters in 14-straight starts. That’s huge against a Blue Jays lineup that ranks 20th in K rate, 22nd in runs scored, 25th in OPS and 28th in OBP.
