Top Two Lines

Both Sites – Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog.

Chicago had allowed at least four goals in their prior five games before the Winnipeg Jets let us down the other night. However, the Avalanche are not the Jets. The gang is reunited as Colorado has reverted back to pairing the three studs up top. I would expect Nathan MacKinnon to be the most popular individual skater on the slate, on both sites and in all formats. That being said, I also think that the full line will fall short of Toronto in terms of overall ownership. Therefore, particularly on a big slate, we can build a relatively unique line with them. The Avalanche are projected for 3.56 goals at home, and the top line or a MacKinnon one-off seems like the best way to try to harness some of that total.

Both Sites – Toronto One – John Tavares, Mitchell Marner, Zach Hyman

One night after John Tavares and Zach Hyman had quiet nights, as opposed to Mitchell Marner’s two goals, it’s time to jump back on the wagon. It’s those magic two words once again, Red Wings. Toronto is a slate high -240 favorite with a whopping 4.11 projected goal total. Both this line as well as Auston Matthews individually will be chalk. However, the shots just keep coming and all three skaters are seeing a ton of ice time. Zach Hyman continues to remain affordable thus making it easier to fit the other two skaters and still have enough salary left to fill things out.

Top Two Lines

Both Sites – Toronto One – John Tavares, Mitchell Marner, Zach Hyman

Tonight we only have a four-game slate so let’s focus on a couple of core lines to build off of. The other night it was Auston Matthews scoring all the goals for the Maple Leafs, while this line did all of the dirty work. They were unfortunate not to add to their recent totals, but Toronto One is still shooting the puck a ton. John Tavares has hit the five-shot DraftKings bonus in three of his last four games, Mitchell Marner is riding a five-game point streak, and Zach Hyman helps provide salary relief at $4,800 on DraftKings and $4,400 on FanDuel. Toronto is a -170 favorite against a Rangers team that can’t get out of their own way on defense. New York has allowed nine goals over their last two games and this will not be a great opportunity for them to bounce back.

DraftKings – Washington Two – T.J. Oshie, Jakob Vrana, Evgeny Kuznetsov

Once again, this line is criminally priced on DraftKings. Evgeny Kuznetsov is $5,400, T.J. Oshie is $5,000, and Jakob Vrana is $5,100. I don’t know how you don’t play them there. The Devils have had a somewhat soft schedule recently since the Taylor Hall trade, but that doesn’t mean that they have suddenly improved. Not surprisingly, the Caps are a decent -160 favorite and should be a good bet for a few goals here. The second line is not only cheap but the 13th overall ranked line in the NHL over the last ten days. During that span, they have 71.4 GF% and 63 SATF, which has culminated in five full line goals.

Top Three Lines

DraftKings – Vancouver Two – Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, Jake Virtanen

This pick is a bit off the board as an underdog, but Vancouver Two makes for one of the more interesting DK value lines on the slate. Vancouver just faced Las Vegas on road ice a few nights ago and had a big night despite getting outshot, winning six to three. Now the Canucks face them again a few days later on home ice and should be able to exploit the matchups. Elias Pettersson managed six shots on goal “only scoring one” against the Knights on Sunday, and at only $6,400 you can go back to well. Jake Virtanen managed four shots on goal along with a score himself and he comes in at a meager $2,800. J.T Miller has been having a strong season since arriving in Vancouver, with 31 points across 38 points. All three skaters see power playtime. Would I prefer this line with Brock Boeser in it? Sure, of course. However, given Virtanen’s $2,800 punt price, this line can provide a solid combination of salary relief with upside. They will also avoid the defensively savvy Stone/Pacioretty line and hard match with the Vegas depth lines

Both Sites – Boston One – Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak

The New York Islanders have made their bread and butter, as well as reputation, on defense and goaltending. However, as of late it has all started to fall apart, most notoriously capped off by an eight to three home shredding Tuesday night inflicted by the Predators. Boston is a -165 home favorite as of the time of writing, with a good amount of deference being shown to the Islanders in regards to the total. The Bruins come into this 12-1-6 at home and if this game were at “the Barn” or the Barclays center instead, I’d expect the B’s top line to get a heavy dose of the Islanders “enforcer” fourth line with Casey Czikas and Cal Clutterbuck. Instead, I’d expect them to eat both Ross Johnston and Josh Bailey alive on the wings. Tuesday night it was surprising just how chalky the Bruins were on a huge slate, but it just goes to show you should never sleep on Boston.

FanDuel – Winnipeg One – Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, Patrick Laine

The Jets will face a Blackhawks team that is on a road half of a back to back and they are a heavy -185 favorite. Chicago has allowed at least three goals in six straight games, with at least four allowed in four of them. The Blackhawks will enter the game last in the Central Division, largely the byproduct of their poor 5-8-3 home record. In terms of teams that I expect to be sort of chalky, I like Winnipeg more than Tampa Bay or Nashville considering Ottawa’s strong home numbers. Given the lack of any big price difference between lines on FanDuel, it makes more sense to target the first line there. However, on DraftKings, where Blake Wheeler is only $6,000 and Nikolaj Ehlers is only $5,000, I would use the second line or some two-man variation of it, instead.

Top Two Lines

Buffalo Sabres One – Victor Olofsson, Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart

Our top NHL DFS stack for the 12/19 NHL DFS slate is the Buffalo Sabres top line. In just their past three games, this trio has managed to record six goals and seven assists making them one of the hottest lines in hockey. All three play together on Buffalo’s top power-play unit and each average around 20 minutes of ice-time each. They will be going up against a shaky Carter Hart at 7 pm in Philadelphia.

Winnipeg Jets – Kyle Connor, Mark Schiefele, Patrik Laine

Winnipeg has been lights out at home this season with their intimidating Whiteout fan-base. Their opponents, the Chicago Blackhawks, dropped a 4-1 home match-up against the Avalanche and will have less than 24 hrs rest before their match-up tonight against the Jets. Winnipeg’s top line has recorded seven goals and six assists among themselves in their past three games, this line also plays on Winnipeg’s top power-play unit and averages around 20 minutes of ice-time each per game. The goaltender they will face-off against, Robin Lehner, has let in at least three goals in his last five starts and Chicago’s defense is allowing the most shots on goal in the league averaging 36 shots against per game. Not to mention that Winnipeg holds the best odds of the monster 10-game 12/19 NHL DFS slate at -180 favorites with a 6.5 O/U at the time of writing.

Marc-Andre Fleury – Over 26.5 Goaltending Saves – Vancouver is averaging 32.3 shots per game and Vegas has been allowing 31.2 shots per game. That should be plenty for Fleury to reach the 26.5 save threshold.

Clayton Keller – Over 2.5 Fantasy Points – Averaging over seven shots in his past three games with three points (2G, 1A) in that span, Keller is a prime choice to exceed the 2.5 fantasy points.

Honorable Mention (Eichel: Above 4.5 SOG + Blocks)

Top Two Lines

Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Andre Burakovsky, Mikko Rantanen

Colorado is a -144 favorite on road ice, in a game with a high total for a three game slate. In cash games I would definitely start with Nathan MacKinnon. From there, you can either play him as a one off, try pairing with the first line, or pairing with a more power play oriented combination of Gabriel Landeskog and Nazeem Kadri. No matter how you choose to go about it, unless trying to be fairly contrarian in a large field tournament on such a small slate; I would have Colorado exposure. Now that they are healthy, they have the potential to be scary good. Prior to “only” allowing three goals last time out, the Blackhawks had allowed at least four goals against in four straight games.

Chicago One – Patrick Kane, Dylan Strome, Alex Nylander

Outside of Patrick Kane, this line is definitely not very sexy. However, there should be goals coming from both sides in this one. When you look at the other two games on the slate, such as Edmonton in St. Louis and the Ducks in New Jersey, you can see why this one will be popular to target. All three skaters on this line see power play time. I like Colorado’s second line more than this line, but I am not trying to just list two lines from the same team. Last time these two teams met, it resulted in a 7-3 Avalanche win so I do think a line like this could pay off value. Unfortunately, both sites require skaters from at least two different teams, so here we are.

12/18 NHL DraftKings Rankings

DraftKings Forwards/Centers

  1. Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche – $8,200
  2. Patrick Kane – Chicago Blackhawks – $8,000
  3. Jonathan Toews – Chicago Blackhawks – $5,800
  4. Zach Kassian – Edmonton Oilers – $3,800
  5. Connor McDavid – Edmonton Oilers – $8,000

NHL DraftKings Defenders

  1. Oscar Klefbom – Edmonton Oilers – $6,100
  2. Alex Pietrangelo – St. Louis Blues – $5,600
  3. Ryan Graves – Colorado Avalanche – $4,700
  4. Justin Faulk – St Louis Blues – $3,500
  5. Ian Cole – Colorado Avalanche – $3,600

NHL DraftKings Goalies

  1. MacKenzie Blackwood – New Jersey Devils – $7,200
  2. Ryan Miller – Anaheim Ducks – $7,400

12/18 NHL FanDuel Rankings

FanDuel Forwards/Centers

  1. Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche – $9,200
  2. Jonathan Toews – Chicago Blackhawks – $6,500
  3. Patrick Kane – Chicago Blackhawks – $8,200

Nathan MacKinnon – Over 5.5 Fantasy Points – He is the top player on this slate and it’s not close.

Oscar Klefbom – Over 2.5 Fantasy Points – The threshold is low, so worth taking a shot on that third Oilers star.

This article discusses lineup construction for NHL DFS on FanDuel for December 17th. While there are many different sports and various contests pertaining to DFS along with their respective strategies, we focus on the main approach to build both reliable cash and GPP lineups for a successful NHL night: line stacking. By taking players’ prices, matchups, and recent performance into account, this will offer you an edge over the competition. PLEASE make sure to double-check any last-minute injury news; whether it may be someone coming back from injury or someone that got hurt during the morning skate, as well as changes to a club’s special teams’ units and the starting goalie. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

TopLine Stacks

Boston1: Marchand – Bergeron – Pastrnak

On a big NHL slate, I still like to stick to our main strategy when building a core: line stacking. Despite there being many options available to us, the Bruins top line is in a great spot at home looking to get back on track versus the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings are last in the Western Conference and allow 3.14 goals per game; their 29th ranked penalty kill, running at 74%, is one of their main issues. The Bruins’ price tags are high, leaving us scrambling for cheaper options to fill out the rest of our forwards which is why I am prioritizing three 2-man stacks on tonight’s slate; Pastrnak and Marchand are my two favorites with so many options at center tonight.

Tampa Bay 2: Killorn – Cirelli – Stamkos

With NHL all-star winger Nikita Kucherov nursing a lower-body injury, coach Jon Cooper shuffled his lines for tonight’s game against the Ottawa Senators. Cirelli is being asked to center the second line with Killorn and Stamkos flanking his wings. Cirelli has proven to have an offensive touch when asked to step up into an offensive role and is considered an elite target at $4,500 on FanDuel. With Killorn and Stamkos seeing time on the top powerplay unit, they are my two favorite targets in what should be an offensive game. Make sure to stay tuned as Kucherov is a game-time decision. Tampa Bay comes in with an implied team total of 4.5 as -425 favorites.

Toronto 1: Hyman – Tavares – Marner

As one of the most intriguing NHL games on the slate, I want my share of exposure to the Toronto Maple Leafs-Buffalo Sabres game. In their two meetings thus far this season, the two clubs have combined for 13 goals, each with one win apiece. John Tavares has been on fire versus Buffalo throughout his career with 40 points in 32 games, including 4 points in 2 games this season. On the flip side, I love the other end of this matchup with Jack Eichel and his linemates Victor Olofsson and Sam Reinhart; Eichel has 20 points in 15 games versus Toronto in his career, including 4 points in their 2 games this season.

Vegas Golden Knights 2: Pacioretty – Stephenson –Stone

Having combined for 17 points over their last four games, Vegas’ second line is an elite NHL stack tonight. Most notably, Max Pacioretty (5 goals and 8 points) and Mark Stone (1 goal and 6 points) are on fire in their last four games and face a Minnesota Wild team allowing 3.26 goals per game on the season that is starting back up goaltender Alex Stalock tonight with starter Devan Dubnyk out for personal reasons. If running a two-man stack, Pacioretty and Stone are my favorites.

Top Defensive Options

VictorHedman, Tampa Bay Lightning ($6,300)

If paying up tonight on defense, Victor Hedman is the man I want in my NHL lineups. After having 7 points in a 4-game span, Hedman has recently cooled off with 1 point in his last four but is in a great bounce-back spot tonight versus the Ottawa Senators. The Senators average the fifth-most penalty minutes 10.1 per game and 16 of Hedman’s 28 points this season have come on the powerplay.

RasmusDahlin, Buffalo Sabres ($5,300)

Dahlin is in his third game back from a concussion and has 2 points in his last two games. Quarterbacking an elite Sabres powerplay bolstering Jack Eichel and Victor Olofsson, I love this play stacked with Buffalo’s top line.

SheaTheodore, Vegas Golden Knights ($4,800)

With 5 points in his last two games and assuming a role on Vegas’ top powerplay unit with Stone and Pacioretty, Theodore is an offensive NHL talent worth considering in your stacks tonight.

JakobChychrun, Arizona Coyotes ($3,800)

I’ll never understand how FanDuel has not yet raised his price. Chychrun offers a tremendous saving on the backend with his salary of $3,800 and has a safe floor with 57 blocked shots and 80 shots in 35 games played this NHL season. In a matchup versus the high-flying Sharks, Chychrun will be in a lot of my lineups.

Top Goalie Options

Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins ($8,500)

Andrei Vasilevskiy, Tampa Bay Lightning ($9,000)

Thomas Greiss, New York Islanders ($7,900)

Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins ($8,300)

Top Three Lines

DraftKings – Toronto One – John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Zach Hyman

The Toronto top line has been one of the most productive in hockey over the last few weeks. John Tavares has at least five shots on goal in five of his last six games, thus almost assuring the bonus. Mitch Marner has been no slouch either as he comes into this game riding a four-game point streak. The third wheel Zach Hyman has hit double-digit points on DraftKings in four of his last five games with four goals during that span. Hyman also provides some salary savings for us at only $4,900. Toronto has a high 3.93 implied goal total and this line is most likely to be a part of any scoring.

Fanduel – Tampa Bay Two – Steven Stamkos, Alex Killorn, Anthony Cirelli

Tampa Bay is one of the slate’s bigger favorites at -286 with a heavy 4.18 projected goal total. They have a very juicy matchup at home against an Ottawa Senators team on the second night of a back to back, away in Florida. Whether or not Nikita Kucherov plays is uncertain at this point and perhaps his absence is enough to shake up the Tampa Bay lines. If he is in or the line does not change, I would target the certainty and price of the second line. You have one stud in Steven Stamkos and then two very affordable options in Alex Killorn and Anthony Cirelli. Killorn, in particular, has been hot as of late.

Both Sites – Boston One – Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak

I figured that I would make sure to at least provide them an honorable mention. Boston has been slumping as a team lately by their standards. However, this has not impacted the production of their primary trio, who remains as consistent as ever. The Bruins have a very modest projected goal total of 3.33 which seems low given the home matchup with the L.A. Kings. I would expect that to climb throughout the day and it goes without saying, there is a lot of upsides here. Given some of the affordable lines available on such a large slate, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a way to make them fit in terms of salary.

Steven Stamkos – Over 4.5 Fantasy Points Tampa Bay has a very high projected total, and if Nikita Kucherov isn’t on the ice, Steven Stamkos becomes the de facto leader of this team.

David Pastrnak – Over 4.5 Fantasy Points – It’s been a while since Pasta was highlighted for Monkey Knife Fight purposes. I wouldn’t sleep on Boston tonight, or ever.

Top Two GPP Lines

Fanduel – Florida One – Aleksander Barkov, Evgenii Dadonov, Jonathan Huberdeau

Ottawa has had fairly distinct home/road splits this season and presents a plus matchup for the Florida top line. As of the time of writing, the Panthers come in a heavy -210 favorite and should be good for multiple goals here. Rather than target a depth line, I would just stick with Florida One. They have been the third most productive line in the NHL this season, combining for 23 full line goals. The top line also has full power play correlation. If you don’t want to spend up on all three, I would make Evgeni Dadonov the odd man out. Dadonov’s recent production has been nothing to write home about.

DraftKings – Washington Two – Evgeny Kuznetsov, T.J. Oshie, Jacob Vrana

This line is extremely cheap on DraftKings where Evgeny Kuznetsov is $5,800, T.J. Oshie is $5,000, and Jakub Vrana is $5,500. Those prices don’t measure up to their recent production. Oshie has three goals over his last two games, Vrana has been the team’s player of the month, and Kuznetsov is averaging over a point per game this season. As a -160 favorite in Columbus, tonight certainly shouldn’t be too imposing as far as road games go.

12/16 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Nathan MacKinnon – Over 0.5 Assists I don’t think this is a huge upside game for Colorado, but it’s hard to bet against Nathan Mac grabbing at least an assist.

John Carlson – Over 4.5 Fantasy Points – We might as well put our money behind the best offensive defenseman in the NHL right now.

Cash Line

Las Vegas Two – Chandler Stephenson, Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty

The Las Vegas Golden Knights come in with the highest projected goal total of the night, a modest 3.41. For cash games, most people will be deciding between the two top lines. Max Pacioretty is my priority among individual skaters with his current form. Therefore, the second line intrigues me a little more as it offers a solid combination of upside and savings. Chandler Stephenson has replaced the slumping Paul Stastny on the second line and comes in at a punt price. You can also try to stack one Las Vegas One and add Max Pacioretty as a one-off, so there are a few ways to attack this situation for cash purposes.

GPP Line

Minnesota Two – Eric Staal, Jason Zucker, Mats Zuccarello

The Minnesota Wild travel to Chicago as the underdog. Meanwhile, this line is quietly the seventh most productive in the NHL this season by the numbers, with 16 full line goals. One metric in particular that stands out is their .883 save % against which is better than lines such as the McDavid/Draisaitl line “.917” and Boston One “by one percentage point”. On DraftKings they are underpriced for their production.

DraftKings Forwards/Centers

  2. Jason Zucker – Minnesota Wild – $5,000

NHL DraftKings Defenders

  1. Carson Soucy – Minnesota Wild – $2,700
  2. Jonas Brodin – Minnesota Wild – $3,000
  3. Drew Doughty- Los Angeles Kings – $5,700

  1. Jack Campbell – Los Angeles Kings – $7,000
  2. Marc Andre-Fleury – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $8,200

  1. Max Pacioretty – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $7,400
  2. William Karlson – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $6,200
  3. Alex Tuch – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $4,400

FanDuel Defensemen

  1. Carson Soucy – Minnesota Wild – $3,800
  2. Nate Schmidt – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $4,200
  3. Matt Dumba – Minnesota Wild – $3,600 “he is $6,000 on DK where I would never pay that for him across seven lifetimes”

FanDuel Goalies

  1. Kappo Kahkonen – Minnesota Wild – $7,400 “Assuming Dubynk waits for one more game to return”
  2. Jack Campbell – Los Angeles Kings – $7,100

12/15 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Max Pacioretty- Over 3.5 Fantasy Points At the moment, Patches is too hot to pass on.

Robin Lehner – Over 30.5 Saves – Minnesota might put up a ton of shots in what could be a sneaky shootout.

Top Three Lines

Montreal One – Tomas Tatar, Brendan Gallagher, Phillip Danault

Hold up everyone, we have a Red Wings sighting! Yes, I know they trolled the hockey universe and finally snapped their losing streak last time out against Winnipeg. However, sometimes you need to have a short memory. Not surprisingly, the Canadiens are a big favorite, coming in at -240 with a solid 3.69 projected goal total. Joel Armia is a fine one-off but let’s just stick with the first line as they have been producing, remaining a top ten line over the last 14 days. I love both Shea Weber and Ben Chiarot as well if looking to stack up Habs. I would assume Montreal will be the chalk, as it normally goes when Detroit comes to town anywhere in the NHL.

Pittsburgh One – Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, Bryan Rust

There should be some absolute bloodbaths tonight with some of the big favorites so likely a high scoring slate. Pittsburgh is a -225 favorite, hosting the Kings who are on an East Coast swing. Evgeni Malkin was sick the other night, but supposedly he is “feeling a lot better” now. Bryan Rust should be the first skater of the trio in your lineup on FanDuel. Despite putting up at least five shots on goal in four of his last six games, he has only received a modest price bump of $100, making him all of $5,200 now. The 3.63 projected goal total suggests Pittsburgh should score here and we know the most likely source.

Arizona Powerplay – Phil Kessel, Clayton Keller

I am not sure I have ever listed Arizona in this article before. Most people can understand why. While they have been extremely successful this season, it has largely been on the backs of the defense, coaching, and goaltending. By and large, the Arizona Coyotes are the New York Islanders West. However, they will host the New Jersey Devils who are on the second night of a back to back, after losing to the Avs. The Devils are resting Taylor Hall as he is likely about to get traded, so morale is probably low. The Coyotes are a strong -205 favorite but I am not a fan of anyone line. My single favorite play from the Yotes is Phil Kessel who comes in at only $5,000 on DraftKings. I would use him there rather than on FanDuel for $6,800. My favorite Coyote on FanDuel is Jacob Chychrun per usual.

  1. Darcy Kuemper – Arizona Coyotes – $8,300
  2. Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins – $8,400

12/14 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Brendan Gallagher – Over 3.5 Fantasy Points This is a great spot for Brendan Gallagher and the Canadiens. As far as DFS goes, I like his price better on DraftKings. However, on Monkey Knife Fight you won’t have to worry about his salary.

Kris Letang – Over 4.5 Shots on Goal plus Blocks – Let’s hop back on the Letang wagon, in a game the Pens should win with ease. I doubt they will disappoint again on home ice absent more surprise late scratches.
