The Raptors are anoverwhelming favorite and it will cost you $290 dollars to win $100 dollars or2.9 units to win one unit. Conversely, a $100 dollar wager on the Pelicans towin this game would net $240 dollars for every $100 dollar bet.
Cashwith Flash Best Bets would suggest avoidingthe Raptors money line wager as the risk is far greater than the reward. We won’tbe playing the Pelicans tonight but if you feel strongly that New Orleans willwin this game, then this is the spot for you.
The Spread Bet
The is the most commonway to bet NBA and NCAA hoops and tonights Pelicans-Raptors point spread lookslike this;
New Orleans Pelicans +7
Toronto Raptors -7
The Raptors are laying seven points and they will need to win the game by at least seven points to take this game. The juice is usually -110 for both sides of NBA spread bets so a wager on either team would cost you $110 dollars to win $100. Cash with Flash Best Bets suggests playing the Raptors to “cover” or win by seven or more points because we feel this is the most likely outcome but if you feel strongly this game ends closer than seven points than by all means plunk down $110 dollars and play the Pelicans at +7.
Mostonline books offer opportunities to buy points on the spread and it will looksomething like this.
If youfeel New Orleans can cover +1.5 points, a $100 dollar wager will net $205dollars and as the Pelicans total climbs, the odds go down considerably. TheRaptors being heavily favored will cost $280 dollars and the value rises as thenumber increases.
A generalrule of thumb is to take the Vegas total and bet as close to that number as youcan, based on who you think will win and how much that team wins the game by. Cashwith the Flash Best Bets likes the Raptors to win by seven points andif we were to suggest anything here, and we’re not, but IF we were, we wouldlay down $100 dollars that Toronto would win by nine points tonight.
First Half
Mostshops also offer opportunities to bet on who will win the first half and thatwill look something like this;
The lines and subsequent payouts for this game aren’t all that great but if you believe the Pelicans will head to the locker room with a three-point lead or better, a $100 wager will net $105 dollars and anything above this will cost you more to win less. Wagering $100 dollars that Toronto has a halftime lead of 4.5 points or more will win $105 dollars and anything less than three points will cost $135 dollars to win $100.
The Total
This hasbecome a popular bet, especially in NCAA basketball. Vegas will drop a numberthat reflects what they believe the final combined points total will be and wedecide if the game ends over or under their number. Tonight’s Pelicans-Raptorsgame Total Line looks like this.
Over 231 (-115)
Under 231 (-105)
Cash with Flash Best Bets suggests playing UNDER 231 points as it opened at 227.5 points and jumped to 231.5 points and most Vegas shops offer 231 points. You will need to wager $105 dollars to win $100 and if you think these teams will exceed the total, then wager $115 dollars and play OVER 231 points.

As you can see, the payouts on the above are much better but require us to be more specific in the points range of the total. Anything UNDER 229 points is going to provide the most value as will anything OVER 233.5 points, but you must be exact and will really test your NBA handicapping skills. First Half Totals
Mostshops also offer opportunities to bet on the first half total and that willlook something like this;
They giveus two numbers to shoot at and the most value is UNDER 112.5 points and OVER119.5 points and it works the same as any other totals wager. Betting boxing is just like bettingany other sport and the most common way is the money line and boxing lines,much like hockey, are .20 cent lines. Tonight’s money line looks like this;

It’s obvious the booksdon’t have a strong feeling about either fighter winning tonight. If you thinkGvozdyk is going to win, you will need to wager $125 dollars to win $100. Ifyou believe Beterbiev will win, you will need to wager $105 dollars to win $100and so on.
Just like othersports, try and avoid taking chances on favorites over -200 as the risk farexceeds the rewards. There are certainly times when these bets MUST be playedbut for the most part, you should avoid these high-risk low reward types ofwagers. The beautiful thing about boxing is the various other avenues to takeother than a money line.
Betting Totals in Boxing
Boxing over undertotals are wagered the same as most other sports and tonight’s card looks likethis;
Over 10.5 Rounds +125
Under 10.5 Rounds -175
The oddsmakers don’t believe very strongly this fight will last more than 11 rounds. If you think the fight will go over 10.5 rounds a $100 dollar wager will net you $125 dollars. If you believe the fight will go under 10.5 rounds you will need to risk $175 dollars to win $100.
Round by Round
Guessing the correctround this fight will end can land the savvy boxing fan some real money. Theodds are much higher and the payouts much larger, but Sports Books aren’tgenerally in the habit of giving money away, so tread lightly. Have a look atwhat’s on offer for the Artur Beterbiev and OleksandrGvozdyk bout.
It’s clear the oddsmakersdon’t see this fight lasting more than nine rounds and they also believe it’slikely the bout will last longer than three rounds. Using the above table canhelp determine which way to wager. Betting $100 dollars Gvozdyk will win in rounds seven to nine would net$750 bucks. Betting $100 dollars on his opponent to win between rounds sevenand nine will net $500 dollars profit.
If this bout ends in adraw or a technical draw, a $100 bet will net $1800 and obviously, the oddsmakersdon’t believe this is likely to happen.
Round Betting
Round betting worksthe same way only your totals begin at Over/Under -1.5 rounds and increasesincrementally by round all the way to Over -10.5.
Do yousee how the odds for the over decrease as we get to where the oddsmakers thinkthis fight will end? Look at the odds as we reach rounds seven to nine.
The only way you can make any realmoney is correctly guessing the fight will last seven rounds or less and whythe payouts are much higher.
Fight Props
Accurately choosing how the bout willend is another good way to profit wagering on boxing. Have a look at what’s onoffer for tonight’s fight.
Again, bear in mind the bookies aren’tin the habit of giving away money and there’s a reason the payouts are muchbetter than on a money line or over-under wager.
Live Wagering
Let’s say you think Gvozdyk is going to win but unsure how he will holdup against that monster Beterbiev hook and this is where live betting is abeautiful thing. Maybe Beterbiev is winning after three rounds and the moneystarts pouring in on Beterbiev. That should make the line much more favorable thanthe -125 the books offered you before the fight began. If you still believeyour guy is going to win than pull the trigger and hope your bet comes throughand at a much better price and ultimately larger profit if your wager ends upwinning.
Okay, let’s keep all this in mind aswe look at this fight and how to bet this;
The Prediction
Both fighters are undefeated, and thisfight probably won’t last more than 10 of the 12 scheduled, three-minuterounds. Beterbiev is the slight underdog based on his 100 percent knockout rateand he’ll likely need to knock Gvozdyk out in orderto win this bout. Gvozdyk is the better technical boxer and he’s going to makeit extremely difficult for Beterbiev to land one of the deadliest right-hooksin the sport today.
Beterbiev is looking to get into anold-fashioned, middle of the ring slugfest but the crafty veteran Gvozdyk isn’t going to let that happen and as this goes oninto the middle to later rounds, Gvozdyk is strong enough to weather any stormand jab his way into a decision in this fight.
Pick: Gvozdyk -125

This is themost popular method and one we’ll be using throughout the NHL season. Most ofthe books offer .20 cent lines meaning there’s a .20 cent difference betweenthe favorite and the underdog.
Detroit +135
Las Vegas-155
If I want toplay Detroit, and the capper suggests a three-unit play on Las Vegas to beatDetroit, you would need to risk 4.65 units to win three units. Playing a four-unitplay or higher at -155 should rarely be done because you’ve broken the goldenrule of bankroll management by going over the five percent rule.
Anotherthing you’d like to avoid is taking chances of playing favorites over -200 becausethe risk far exceeds the rewards on wagers like this. There are certainly timeswhen these bets MUST be played but for the most part, you should avoid thesewagers.
The PuckLine
It’s thesame thing as the MLB run line and your sheet will look like this;
Detroit +1.5(-220)
Las Vegas-1.5 (+240)
If youbelieve Las Vegas will win by two or more goals, you would need to wager one unitto win 2.4 units. The reason the favorite pays out so well is that most hockeygames are one-goal affairs with 10 percent of games ending with a score of 3-2.Conversely, wagering on Detroit to cover the -1.5 goals would be unwise as itwould cost 2.2 units to win just one unit.
The Total
Again, itworks the same way as an MLB total and the sheet will look like this;
Detroit vsLas Vegas under 5.5 goals (-110)
Detroit vsLas Vegas over 5.5 goals (-110)
Beingmindful that 10 percent of NHL games end with a 3-2 score, you will wager 1.10unit to win one unit on the scenario you think will likely happen. You will seemore five-unit plays on lines like these as an extra half unit over our five-unitmax bet won’t be that costly if you don’t do it too often.
The GrandSalami
This bet is fun because the totals of every game are involved and the number on a 10-game slate will begin around 52 goals to as high as 70 goals. Usually, these bets payout at even money to has high as +1.50. Vegas Insider offers a monthly Grand Salami Tracker you can use to see what happened last season on any given night in the NHL.
The Closing Number
Informationregarding injuries and such happens all the time and that usually moves theline one way or the other.
Let’s sayyou laid down the -155 on Vegas to beat Detroit and at four o’clock in theafternoon word leaks that Vegas forward Max Pacioretty is ruled out. That linewill likely drop to -135 or less and could close closer to -115 at faceoff. Ifyou played Vegas at -155 you ended up on the wrong side of the line. Do that toooften and you will lose in the long term.
Unless Ireally LOVE a line, I like to make my hockey wagers 30 minutes prior to faceoffand then later check at Pinnacle to seewhat the actual closing line was for that game. If I’m under the number I am ahappy camper and if I’m not I know I must prepare better the next day.
