We have a rather short DFS slate here with only six games on the schedule. That makes our jobs much easier, as we only have 12 teams to zone in on. This is the perfect sort of slate for me and we’re going to look to continue our hot MKF picks!

Catcher

Buster Posey. SF at SD

DK ($2,800)   FD ($2,300)

To say the catching options on this slate are ugly would be an understatement, as Posey makes for a nice punt play. While his power has fallen off the face of the earth, this guy is still a Hall of Fame player. That’s evident by his .302 career average and .832 OPS. Those are incredible numbers from any catcher and his .669 OPS this season will inevitably see some positive regression. The reason we like him here is because he gets the platoon advantage against a lefty, with Posey generating a .322 AVG, .909 OPS and .389 wOBA against southpaws for his career.

First Base

Eric Thames, MIL at CIN

DK ($4,900)   FD ($2,800)

It’s really hard to understand why Thames remains so cheap on these DFS sites. This lefty masher has obliterated righties throughout his career and he’s being priced like a slap-hitter on FanDuel. Since joining the Brewers, Thames is providing a .535 SLG and .884 OPS against right-handers. That’s amazing production from a player priced this cheap and it doesn’t even take into consideration that he enters this game in the midst of a four-game hitting streak, collecting a .500 AVG in that span while accumulating three doubles, one triple, two homers and five RBI. Tyler Mahle is not a guy we need to feat either, with the righty pitching to a 4.80 FIP for his career.

Second Base

Scooter Gennett, CIN vs. MIL

DK ($3,900)   FD ($3,000)

Gennett has only one hit in his first two games off the IL but this is a guy who’s way too good to be this low. Since joining the Reds in 2017. Gennett has a .303 AVG to match his .508 SLG and .859 OPS. Those are stellar numbers from a little guy and he’s typically better against righties. In fact, Gennett has a .903 OPS against right-handers since joining Cincinnati. That’s way too much potential from a player below $4,000 on both DFS sites.

Third Base

Manny Machado, SD vs. SF

DK ($5,100)   FD ($4,200)

Machado’s season-long numbers are nothing special but he’s probably the hottest hitter in the league right now. What got him going was a series in Coors Field, with Machado generating a .429 AVG, a .962 SLG and a 1.415 OPS in 14 games since then. That’s obviously absurd production and it pretty much puts him in play no matter what. We love him against a guy like Jeff Samardzija too, who’s pitching to a 5.12 ERA and 1.41 WHIP dating back to last season.

Shortstop

Willy Adames, TB vs. BAL

DK ($3,800)   FD ($3,400)

Adames was incredibly cheap on both DFS sites just last week and the recent price increase indicates just how good he’s been recently. Not only does he have a hit in 10 of his last 12 games, Adames is also posting a 1.153 OPS over his last eight games in total. What’s cool about Adames is that he’s actually a reverse splits guy, which means he’s much better against right-handed pitching. That’s made crystal clear by the fact that he’s posting an .807 career OPS against righties. Jimmy Yacobonis is definitely a guy we want to exploit too, with the Orioles righty pitching to a 5.32 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 86 innings in his career.

Outfield

Kyle Schwarber, CHC at PIT

DK ($3,900)   FD ($3,600)

Schwarber just continues to be undervalued on DK and it really doesn’t make any sense. Since being moved to the leadoff spot, Schwarber has been a different player. It us evident by the fact that he’s got 14 homers over his last 44 games while accruing 31 runs scored and 31 RBI in that span. That’s all you can ask for from someone in this price range and he should have success against a guy who’s due for some serious regression. Trevor Williams has a 4.51 career xFIP, which tells us that he’s been extremely lucky up to this point. That luck could end here, with Schwarber posting a .495 SLG and .826 OPS against righties since 2017 and Williams allowing seven runs in his last start.

Franmil Reyes, SD vs. SF

DK ($4,400)   FD ($3,000)

This is yet another guy who continues to be disrespected by the DFS sites and he’ll continue to be in my articles until they raise his price. Last time we recommended him, Reyes actually provided two dingers against the Orioles. While that’s unlikely to happen again, it shows the power potential he possesses. We’re talking about a 6’5”, 280-pound dude who’s got 24 homers to match his .564 SLG, .384 xwOBA and .312 ISO. That doesn’t even take into consideration that this monster of a man is in Top 20 in hard-hit rate, exit velocity and barrel percentage. Don’t underestimate a beast like the Franmial!

Jorge Soler, KC at TOR

DK ($4,000)   FD ($3,200)

Soler has 22 home runs and 55 RBI this season. Yes, you read that correctly. Soler ranks Top 8 in the AL in both home runs and RBI. Even as someone who loved Soler in his struggling days with the Cubs, those numbers really surprised me. The simple fact is, this dude is a masher right now and it’s clear that playing every day has done wonders for his consistency. What really adds to his intrigue here is that he gets to face Clayton Richard, who’s pitching to a 6.89 ERA and 1.69 WHIP while recording more walks than Ks. Those terrible numbers are even more worrisome considering the fact that it gives Soler the platoon advantage. Dating back to last year, Soler has a wOBA north of .400 against lefties while providing an .860 OPS.

Monkey Knife Fight Pick of the Day

I’ve hit 13 of my last 20 MKF picks and we’re going to look to keep that hot stretch going here. With only six games on the schedule, I’m going to go with just one recommendation.

Play MLB Player Prop Games and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Adbert Alzolay Over 4.5 Strikeouts

My mouth was watering when I saw this prop. A 2.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in his first two starts say a lot but his 3.09 ERA and 0.94 WHIP at Triple-A this season says even more. That doesn’t even take into consideration that he has 46 Ks in 32 innings this season, which equates to a K rate north of 30 percent. The Pirates rank 20th in both runs scored and wOBA, as Alzolay should cruise right through this 4.5-total.

My DFS write-ups and Monkey Knife Fight picks have been doing some serious damage recently and we’re going to look to build off that momentum here. After going 2-0 on my MKF picks on Monday, I am now 13-6 over my last 19 picks. Check out Scott Engel for MKF Picks today.

Catcher

J.T. Realmuto, PHI vs. NYM

DK ($4,000)   FD ($2,900)

The simple fact is, this is one of the three best hitting catchers in the game and he’s being priced outside the Top 10 at his position in DFS. This is a guy who’s finished either first or second at the catcher position for three straight years in traditional DFS scoring and it’s just a matter of time before he returns to that form. Facing Jason Vargas is a good way to start his inevitable run, with the Mets lefty pitching to a 5.30 xFIP this season. Realmuto is having a huge year with the platoon advantage in his favor too, posting an .864 OPS against left-handers.

First Base

Matt Olson, OAK at STL

DK ($4,100)   FD ($3,200)

I always like to use Olson in DFS when he faces a weak righty and that alone makes this price hard to understand. We’re talking about a guy with a career .867 OPS and .528 SLG against right-handed pitching, as his .252 career ISO is quite the mark too. That’s absurd power potential from a player priced so cheaply and we love him against Adam Wainwright. Not only does Wainwright have a 4.72 ERA and 1.43 WHIP dating back to 2016, he’s also allowing left-handed hitters to post a .325 AVG, .582 SLG and .404 xwOBA against him this season.

Second Base

Max Muncy, LAD at ARI

DK ($5,000)   FD ($3,800)

Muncy has been one of the best hitters in the Majors since last season and he’s always in play against a weak righty. Since joining the Dodgers, Muncy is posting a .393 OBP and .957 OPS against right-handed pitching. A career ISO approaching .300 shows just how potent of a bat this dude has too. Facing Taylor Clarke is simply the DFS icing on the cake, with the Arizona righty pitching to a 6.48 ERA and 1.56 WHIP this season. If you’re playing on DraftKings, you can’t overlook Jose Altuve at $4,100 either.

Third Base

Renato Nunez, BAL vs. SD

DK ($3,900)   FD ($2,600)

Nunez has had a stellar year for the Orioles and it’s hard to understand why these DFS sites continue to disrespect him with these price tags. The slugging third baseman has absolutely obliterated left-handed pitching this season, to the tune of a .560 SLG and .884 OPS. That’s all you can ask for from someone priced so cheaply in DFS and he usually finds himself in the cleanup spot against a lefty. Matt Strahm’s 4.85 ERA and 1.27 WHIP make him a guy we don’t need to avoid either.

Shortstop

Jean Segura, PHI vs. NYM

DK ($4,100)   FD ($3,600)

Segura was in my DFS article on Monday and he treated us with one of his best games of the season. That extended a rather impressive streak from Segura, entering this game in the midst of a six-game hitting streak. In that six-game span, Segura is hitting .346 while providing a 1.000 OPS. That hot stretch makes him particularly intriguing against the aforementioned Jason Vargas, with Segura posting a 1.050 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor this season.

Outfield

Shohei Ohtani, LAA vs. CIN

DK ($4,500)   FD ($3,500)

It’s strange to see Ohtani outfield eligible on both sites but it’s quite the treat for us DFS players. The Japanese import has simply been one of the best players in baseball since joining the Majors last season. That’s evident by the fact that he currently ranks Top 20 in OPS and xwOBA in that span. What makes him really enticing today is that he gets the platoon advantage in his favor. In his career, Ohtani has a .604 SLG and .969 OPS against right-handed pitching. Tanner Roark is a guy we definitely want to exploit too, pitching to a 4.32 FIP and 1.32 WHIP so far this season.  If you’re playing on DraftKings, go ahead and stack a $4,000 Justin Upton with Ohtani.

Joc Pederson, LAD at ARI

DK ($4,700)   FD ($3,100)

When the Dodgers face a righty, Pederson automatically becomes one of the best DFS plays on the board. Not only does Pederson always lead off against right-handed pitching, he also does some serious damage out of that spot. That’s evident by his .598 SLG and .943 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor. All 20 of his homers have actually come against righties and it’s hard to fade him against a guy like Clarke.

Franmil Reyes, SD at BAL

DK ($3,900)   FD ($2,800)

This is yet another disrespectful DFS price tag, as Reyes is simply one of the best power hitters in the league. Not only does he rank Top 10 in exit velocity, his .371 xwOBA and .288 ISO speaks loudly too. That’s why he has 36 homers in just 494 career at-bats, which too is one of the best rates in baseball. While I expect Dylan Bundy to rack up the Ks in this game, his propensity to allow homers makes him a great target for someone like Reyes. Since 2017, Bundy has allowed 84 dingers, which happens to be the most in the Majors in that span.

Every wise DFS player checks the weather before anything else and that’s particularly imperative at this time of the year. Two postponements yesterday shows just how ugly the forecasts have been recently and we have plenty more rain on this slate. In fact, over half of these games have projected rain in the forecast and that’s simply a disaster for us fantasy owners. While we don’t have the best idea of what will happen 24 hours from now, the cities and states you need to keep an eye on are as followed: New York, Minnesota, Washington, Chicago, Kansas City, Texas and Philly.

If you have any comments or questions, write me here or reach me on Twitter @Bartilottajoel.

Catcher:

J.T. Realmuto, PHI vs. DET

DK ($4,500)   FD ($3,200)

When picking catchers, I either pay up or punt the position. For this slate, it’s hard to fade a stud like Realmuto in such a quality matchup. What we really like about him here is the fact that he gets the platoon advantage against southpaw Daniel Norris. The lefties’ numbers are just awful, with Norris posting a 1.58 WHIP to go along with a .385 wOBA. His 3.93 ERA makes him look like he’s not too bad but his 5.31 FIP shows the sort of pitcher he’s truly been. All that puts the Phillies in play for a stack, as they’re projected to score five runs in their friendly home park. That’s why we love Realmuto and he’ll be right in the heart of this order.

Also Consider: Wilson Ramos is too good to be priced at $3,600 on DK and he shouldn’t have too many issues opposing Anthony DeSclafani.

First Base:

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. BAL

DK ($5,000)   FD ($4,100)

Abreu might be my favorite play on the board, as he’s one of the hottest hitters in the majors right now. Over the last eight games. Abreu is 17-for-35 at the plate while collecting five doubles, two homers, six runs and 14 RBI. That’s impossible production to argue with, especially considering he probably gets the best matchup on the board. In fact, Davis Hess owns a .439 xwOBA, which is simply one of the worst marks in the majors.

Also Consider: Rhys Hoskins is pricey but he’s definitely worth considering against lefty Daniel Norris.

Second Base:

Jose Altuve, HOU vs. MIN

DK ($4,500)   FD ($4,200)

Stacking Astros is going to be one of the best strategies on this slate, as they have too many righties for Martin Perez to navigate through. Perez has traditionally struggled with right-handed batters throughout his career, allowing a .318 AVG and an OPS approaching .900 over the last three years. That’s just what Altuve is looking for, as he enters this matchup in the midst of a 3-for-33 stretch. That terrible slump has lowered Altuve’s price to a number that we simply can’t fade, as he should be able to snap it here. So far this season, Altuve owns a 1.288 OPS against southpaws and many of those guys were way better than Perez.

Also Consider: Adam Frazier has been batting atop the Pirates order and should have success in a hitter’s park like Globe Life against a gas can like Shelby Miller.

Third Base:

Travis Shaw, MIL vs. COL

DK ($3,600)   FD ($2,500)

After a few high-end options, let’s go with a value play here. Shaw got off to a terrible start this season, but his power upside is hard to argue with. This is a guy who had at least 30 homers in back-to-back seasons while posting a .240 ISO in both those years. That power appears to be resurfacing recently, with Shaw hitting three homers and one double over his last seven games. Getting the platoon advantage against Antonio Senzatela is simply the icing on the cake, with Shaw posting a .522 SLG and .877 OPS against right-handers over the last three years.

Also Consider: Yuli Gurriel is incredibly cheap on both sites and gets the platoon advantage against Perez. Yoan Moncada is one of the biggest breakouts in the league and gets that brilliant matchup against Hess.

Shortstop:

Carter Kieboom, WSH vs. STL

DK ($3,800)   FD ($3,200)

Kieboom is one of the most touted prospects in the majors right now and early results are extremely promising. While his average has been lacking, Kieboom has two homers in his first four games. That really should be no surprise when you consider the fact that Kieboom posted a .258 ISO and .485 wOBA in the minors this season. Those are MVP-type peripherals and it shows just how much potential this kid has. Facing Miles Mikolas is not scary either, as his 6.04 FIP and 16.7 percent K-rate are numbers we want to exploit.

Also Consider: If you’re stacking Astros righties against Perez, it’s hard to overlook Carlos Correa.

Outfielders:

George Springer, HOU vs. MIN

DK ($5,200)   FD ($4,200)

Springer makes a beautiful two-man stack with Altuve, as I expect these guys to run rampant around the bases. Perez’ aforementioned splits speak for itself, as Springer should benefit by batting from the right side. He’s actually hot though, as Springer is averaging more than 10 DK points per game for the season while posting an OPS just shy of .900. Just like Altuve, Springer has made minced meat of southpaws throughout his career. In fact, Springer is posting a .906 OPS against lefties dating back to 2016.

J.D. Martinez, BOS vs. OAK

DK ($4,900)   FD ($4,000)

It’s strange not to see Martinez as one of the five-highest priced hitters, as he’s easily one of the top bats in the game. His .929 OPS speaks loudly but his peripherals indicate he should be even better. In fact, Martinez is one of the league leaders with a .448 xwOBA and a .648 xSLG. Those are absurd numbers and it simply means he’s hitting the crap out of the ball right now. Facing Mike Fiers should benefit any hitter too, as his 7.03 ERA and 1.51 WHIP says a lot about his recent struggles.

Gregory Polanco, PIT at TEX

DK ($4,300)   FD ($3,000)

Polanco is a personal favorite of mine and I believe this is the sort of matchup where he can get going. Hitting in Globe Life is a huge reason why, considering that ballpark ranks as the second-best hitter’s park in the majors. Getting to face a weak righty is huge too, with Polanco posting an .840 OPS against right-handers over the last two years. Shelby Miller is a righty we want to exploit, as his .419 xwOBA is a good indicator of his 7.52 ERA and 2.07 WHIP.

Also Consider: Mookie Betts has all the same advantages as Martinez but is actually a little bit cheaper. If you’re looking for someone below $4,000, Franmil Reyes has one of the highest xwOBA’s in the league and gets the platoon advantage against Max Fried. Not to mention, both of these guys combined for three dingers on Tuesday.
