This report will provide recommended DFS stack options for today’s eight-game main slate (10 games on DK). I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

All plays are listed in order of preference. Please check back between 5-6 PM EST as some players can receive rest days or get limited at bats especially as we get closer to the postseason. Make sure you stay up to date with all our favorite plays on our Premium Gold DFS Cheat Sheet as well.

Teams with Highest IRT

MLB Stack: New York Yankees

vs. LHP Sean Manaea (COL): 6.00 Runs

Sean Manaea is back for his first start in the show since having surgery for a small tear in his shoulder. He doesn’t look to be on a pitch count, he threw seven scoreless innings while only allowing two hits in triple-A Las Vegas on Augugst 23rd. He comes into Yankee Stadium sporting a lofty .289 wOBA, .398 OBP, and .275 OBP against righties in 2018. If he were on a pitch count I would be more into the Yankees. Manaea had a good 2018 campaign and he is coming off eight days of rest. He also showed us in his latest minor league game he can pitch without restriction. The Yankees are slashing to a massive .434 wOBA, .325 ISO, and 175 WRC+ to lefties over the last month.

Preferred Stack:DJ LeMahieu ($4200 FD|$5100 DK), Aaron Judge ($4400 FD|$5200 DK), Gleyber Torres ($4000 FD|$4800 DK), and Gary Sanchez ($4000 FD|$4600 DK).

MLB Stack: Houston Astros

vs. RHP Wilmer Font (TOR): 5.90 Runs

The Astros continue to ride their strong hitting averages, slashing to a .402 wOBA, .250 ISO, and 158 WRC+ recently against righties. Wilmer Font maintains a 1.76 ERA in the month of August (15.1 IP). He does tend to struggle to left handed batting (.364 wOBA, .529 SLG). I’m not to crazy about any of the righties other than George Springer and Yuli Gurriel. The core lefties (Brantley, Springer) are my top plays in this lineup.

Preferred Stack: George Springer ($4200 FD|$5400 DK), Michael Brantley ($4000 FD|$4900 DK), Yordan Alvarez ($4100 FD|$5700 DK), and Yuli Gurriel ($3700 FD|$5000 DK).

MLB Stack: Minnesota Twins

vs. RHP Reynaldo Lopez (CWS): 5.75 Runs

I am really loving the Twins again right now. Spencer Turnbull does just enough to escape it seems. He is also sitting in front of one of the worst bullpens in baseball. The Twins have been surging against righties the last few weeks, boasting a .361 wOBA, .212 ISO, and .352 BABIP. This is an easy tournament play that may go overlooked and underplayed.

Preferred Stack: Nelson Cruz ($4000 FD|$5600 DK), Miguel Sano ($3600 FD|$4800 DK), Jason Castro ($2400 FD|$3500 DK), Jake Cave ($2600 FD|$4100 DK), and Luis Arraez ($2900 FD|$3900 DK).

Other Teams I Have Interest in

MLB Stack: Chicago Cubs

vs. LHP Gio Gonzalez (MIL): UPDATE

Preferred Plays: Kris Bryant ($3900 FD|$4400 DK), Nicholas Castellanos ($3200 FD|$4700 DK), Anthony Rizzo ($3900 FD|$5200 DK), and Ian Happ ($2600 FD|$4000 DK).

MLB Stack: Baltimore Orioles

vs. LHP Danny Duffy (KCR): 4.50 Runs

Preferred Plays: Trey Mancini ($3600 FD|$4400 DK), Anthony Santander ($3000 FD|$4300 DK), Hanser Alberto ($2900 FD|$4100 DK), Jonathan Villar ($3600 FD|$5200 DK). Pedro Severino ($3700 DK).

Pitching

  1. Patrick Corbin LHP (WSH): 3.00 Runs
  2. Michael Pineda RHP (MIN): 3.75 Runs
  3. Charlie Morton RHP (TAM): 3.50 Runs

This report will provide stacks that I recommend for today’s 11 game main slate. I’ve also included my favorite one-offs and value plays.

Boston Red Sox Stack

vs. LHP Gregory Soto (DET): 6.30 Runs

The Red Sox come in with the highest implied run total on the slate today. I do not expect Soto to pitch more than an inning or two but once he comes out he has an awful bullpen behind him. The Red Sox are slashing a league best .382 wOBA, .216 ISO, and .920 OPS over the last two weeks. Greg Soto carries 8.06 ERA, 6.29 FIP, and 5.88 SIERA over a small sample of 22 innings pitched. He is atrocious to righties. They are slashing .415 wOBA, .632 SLG, and .391 OBP against him. The Red Sox have a lot of right handed power early in the lineup and Soto struggles there the most as indicated above. This makes guy’s like Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, and J.D. Martinez early on a priority. The bullpen should open things up for Rafael Devers to crack the slate open, although he also hits lefties well.

Preferred Stack: J.D. Martinez ($4000 FD|$4700 DK), Mookie Betts ($4200 FD|$4900 DK), Xander Bogaerts ($4200 FD|$5000 DK), and Rafael Devers ($4400 FD|$5600 DK).

Toronto Blue Jays Stack

vs. RHP Asher Wojciechowski (BAL): 5.95 Runs

Asher Wojciechowski has bounced around multiple farm systems since 2010 and has limited big show experience other than the 62 innings pitched he tossed for the Reds in 2017. Through his career, Wojciechowski carries 6.62 ERA, 4.92 FIP, and 4.25 SIERA. He surrenders 1.81 HR/9 over that same time span and typically gives up over 50% fly ball rate. The Blue Jays offense has hit extremely well against right handed pitching the last few weeks. They are slashing a massive .399 wOBA, .318 ISO, and 152 WRC+ in that time span. I like this lineup a lot more when Randal Grichuk is in it. He is currently projected to start but is nursing a back injury. Boost to Toronto if he plays today.

Preferred Stack: Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ($3800 FD|$5500 DK), Cavan Biggio ($3800 FD|$4700 DK), Freddie Galvis $3400 FD|$4300 DK), Eric Sogard ($3400 FD|$4700 DK) and Justin Smoak ($3000 FD|$4100 DK) are my preferred plays. Danny Jansen ($2900 FD|$3800 DK) is okay for value but I typically won’t waste my utility spot on a catcher. Randal Grichuk ($3200 FD|$3800 DK) if he plays, if not Brandon Drury ($2500 FD|$3300 DK) is a decent value play.

Chicago Cubs Stack

vs. RHP Ivan Nova (CHW): 6.00 Runs

I’m going to jump on this Cubs train before it passes me by this weekend. This team has quietly hit very well to right handed pitching over the last two weeks, slashing .354 wOBA, .233 ISO, and .515 SLG. Ivan Nova carries 5.92 ERA, 5.43 FIP, and 5.06 SIERA into today’s matchup. Nova isn’t giving up a ton of fly balls, but he does have a .339 BABIP to compliment his 45% ground ball rate. His splits are awful and close to identical. He holds a .386 wOBA, .512 SLG, and .368 OBP on the season. Wilson Contreras, Javier Baez, Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo, and Jason Heyward all sit in the top 45 hitters in the league with the best HR/FB ratio.

Preferred Stack: Jason Heyward ($3500 FD|$4800 DK), Kyle Schwarber ($3900 FD|$4300), Anthony Rizzo ($4300 FD|$4800 DK), Wilson Contreras ($3600 FD|$5300 DK), and Javier Baez ($4100|$5300). I have a ton of interest in Robel Garcia ($2000 FD|$2200 DK). He’s essentially a free square with the fantastic matchup and minimum pricing. Lock him in.

Honorable Mentions

Houston Astros Stack

vs. LHP Jose Saurez (LAA): 5.90 Runs

Preferred Stack: Jose Altuve ($3600 FD|$3900 DK), Alex Bregman ($4100 FD|$4700 DK), and Yordan Alvarez ($4200 FD|$4700 DK).

Baltimore Orioles Stack

vs. RHP Trent Thornton(TOR): 4.55 Runs

Preferred Stack: Chance Sisco ($3500 FD|$4200 DK), Anthony Santander ($3000 FD|$3900 DK), Renato Nunez ($3300 FD|$4400 DK) Chris Davis ($2500 FD|$3000 DK), and Jonathan Villar ($3600 FD|$4500 DK).

One-Offs and Value Plays

Robel Garcia (CHC) ($2000 FD|$2200 DK), Chris Davis (BAL) ($2500 FD|$3000 DK), Mike Trout (LAA) ($4800 FD|$5800 DK), Matt Olson (OAK) ($3500 FD|$4800 DK), and Ian Desmond (COL) ($3000 FD|$4700 DK).

This report will provide stacks that I recommend for today’s 4 game early only slate on FD and 6 game slate on DK. I’ve also included my favorite one offs and value plays.

Minnesota Twins

vs. RHP Tanner Anderson (OAK)

Implied Run Total: 5.10 Runs

Tanner Anderson has a small sample size coming into today’s matchup (17.2 IP) but has struggled nonetheless. Anderson carries a 7.13 ERA, 5.30 FIP, and 4.17 SIERA. He has struggled more so to left handed batters, carrying a .473 wOBA, .730 SLG, and .439 OBP through 7.1 IP. The Twins are currently hitting below their season averages, slashing .295 wOBA, .164 ISO, and 81 WRC+ over the last two weeks. Their season averages sit at .343 wOBA, .232 ISO, and 112 WRC+. Despite the hitting slump for this Twins team, I will take the matchup and run with it, even with a limited sample size and inflated stats from Tanner’s last start against the Angels.

Preferred Stack: Nelson Cruz $4200 FD|$5200 DK, Max Kepler $3700 FD|$4600 DK, Jorge Polanco $3700 FD|$4500 DK, and Jason Castro $3000 FD|$4100 DK, Miguel Sano $3800 FD|$5000 DK

Pittsburgh Pirates

vs. LHP Jose Quintana (CHC)

Implied Run Total: 4.65 Runs

Jose Quintana comes into today’s matchup carrying a 4.21 ERA, 4.13 FIP, and 4.68 SIERA through 94 IP. He tends to struggle more to right handed batters. They carry a .325 wOBA, .442 SLG, and .325 OBP against Quintana through 69.2 IP. The Pirates are hitting slightly above their season averages against left handed pitching, slashing .291 wOBA, .133 ISO, and 84 WRC+. Tougher matchup for Pittsburgh against Quintana, who has been fairly dominant to lefties. Most of the Pirates power lies in their left handed batters, but I’m confident they can knock Quintana around a bit this afternoon.

Preferred Stack: Josh Bell $4600 FD|$5600 DK, Starling Marte $3900 FD|$5100 DK, Bryan Reynolds $3400 FD|$4800 DK, and Jose Osuna $2800 FD|$4800 DK.

Honorable Mentions

Seattle Mariners

vs. RHP Michael Wacha (STL)

Implied Run Total: 4.80 Runs

Preferred Stack: Domingo Santana $3700 FD|$5000 DK, Daniel Vogelbach $3600 FD|$4700 DK, J.P. Crawford $3100 FD|$4700 DK, Omar Narvaez $2500 FD|$4400 DK. I also like Tim Beckham (FD specific) $2700 FD|$3900 DK.

One-offs & Value Plays

Jose Martinez (STL) $2600 FD|$3900 DK, Paul Goldschmidt (STL) $3000 FD|$3800 DK. Kyle Schwarber (CHC) $3600 FD|$4100 DK, Franklin Barreto (OAK) $2000 FD|$3500 DK, Elias Diaz $2200 FD|$3500 DK.

Scott Engel and Mark Paquette get into the full MLB schedule on the 7/1 MLB DFS Podcast. They break down the Monday slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. Making pitching decisions will not be easy as there are only 10 hurlers to pick from on a short slate and most of them are not appealing.

7/1 MLB DFS Podcast Pitching Notes

The big question is whether to spend up for Mike Minor on a five-game main slate. No other pitcher really provides confidence that he will deliver a quality performance. Logan Allen is the top alternative so far, but we have only seen two starts from him with differing results.

MLB DFS Podcast Hitting Notes

The Padres may be the best stack of the night, as many of their bats have been hot lately and they should provide good offense against Jeff Samardzija. The Brewers-Reds matchup should also provide a lot of offense and you can build stacks from both lineups.

Boston and Chicago have small rain issues tonight to watch for as you make your DFS stack builds. The wind will continue to blow out moderately to right at Wrigley.

  1. Yankees: This team will be the most popular DFS stack of the night for obvious reasons. Their deep and powerful lineup recently saw their two biggest right-handed bats return in Giancarlo Stanton ($4,200 FD) and Aaron Judge ($4,300). They now get left-handed starter Clayton Richard ($5,600) Tuesday night in the Bronx. Some of his statistics on the season include 25.1 innings, 29 hits, 21 earned runs, 15 walks, 14 strikeouts and five HRs allowed. Yikes, good luck tonight Mr. Richard!
  2. Braves/Cubs: I know this matchup let most people in the DFS industry down last night. But let us go back to this DFS stack again tonight, shall we? After all, 11 runs were scored last night between the Cubs and Braves with three combined HRs last night. Not a horrible performance but not the explosion we were hoping for either. Weather conditions should be almost exactly the same as they were last night, warm, somewhat muggy and a wind blowing out to right around 15 mph. This isn’t the best weather conditions we have ever seen at Wrigley but bats do get a boost here. Possible players that you may see on my DFS roster Tuesday night would be left-handed sluggers Freddie Freeman ($4,500 FD), Anthony Rizzo ($3,900), Kyle Schwarber ($3,100) and the suddenly red-hot Jason Heyward ($2,800, two or more hits in each of last three games, going a combined eight for 12 for a .667 batting average with a HR, three doubles, three runs scored and a RBI). The Braves are throwing a lefty out there in Max Fried so some of these left-handed bats from the Cubs may not play, keep that in mind for DFS stack purposes.
  3. Padres: Let’s differentiate ourselves from the crowd with this DFS stack choice. After a winter with a shakeup at all levels of the Baltimore organization, Orioles fans hoped 2019 would be different. Unfortunately, this looks like a long-term project in Maryland. Baltimore is tied for last as a pitching staff in batting average allowed at .273. They have given up an incredible 156 HRs as a staff. The next closest team is Seattle at 137. Tampa has given up fewer than half of Baltimore’s total (73). The Oriole bullpen continues to be a problem, with a 4.78 ERA which is good (bad??) for fourth worst in the league. Tonight, the Baltimore nine plan on using Jimmy Yacabonis as their opener and will string the rest of the game together with bullpen arms. Oh, and did I mention that according to ESPN’s park factors Oriole Park at Camden Yards is the third easiest park to HR in and 6th to score runs in? DFS stack with the Padres!

The guys dig into the Monday night schedule on this DFS Podcast, spotlighting CC Sabathia as a possible bargain play against Toronto, and they also consider Philadelphia and Colorado stacks. Tonight’s Braves-Cubs game should produce a lot of offense, and there is a sparkling pitching matchup between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. The Rockies-Giants game presents an interesting dilemma to close out today’s DFS Podcast. Should you take a hot-hitting team against a bad pitcher as your prime stack of the night? Will the ball leave the yard enough?

I actually do like Julio Teheran tonight against the Mets in Atlanta. Teheran typically shows up against the Mets as he has maintained them to a .198 BA with 24 strike outs in 107 at-bats. Teheran comes into this game pitching nicely with a .53 ERA in the month of June and Mets are striking out more as of late with low team batting averages. Teheran is going to be my pitching play tonight despite Vegas favoring the Mets at -110 with a 9 under/over.

I”m guessing that I am not the only one questioning their pitching tonight. I just wanted to include a list of the teams who have struck out the most over the last week. Which one to target? Not sure yet. But at the moment San Diego looks like an appealing team to target with Milwaukee Brandon Woodruff. The Padres are struggling at home with a .224 home team BA and a 29 % K rate against righties.

Now Chicago. This is really my favorite stack of the night. Chicago carries upside, BvP advantages, reasonable salaries as well as a solid hitting environment on a nice 72 degree night in Chicago. Nova has been pretty bad as of late. He’s leaving too many off speed pitches out over the plate and against a veteran team like Chicago, they will make him pay. The left-handed bats on Chicago specifically have the most impressive stats as Nova owns a .349 allowed BA to opposing lefties with eight home runs this season. Nova owns a 6.55 ERA over his last two and a 7.38 ERA in night games this season. On DraftKings this is a five man stack for sure but on FanDuel which four Cubs to select is one of my most difficult decisions of the night. Baez, Rizzo, Schwarber and Gonzlalez make the cut for me.

Okay, I have some strong opinions tonight on the Oakland A’s and Chicago Cubs. What are my opinions you ask? Stack these team and do it with confidence. Let’s start with Oakland. The A’s face Gabriel Ynoa and Baltimore’s horrific bullpen. The only question to ask yourself when targeting Baltimore this season is, “When will my players see the bullpen?” Ynoa has a 5.74 road ERA over five games played. Ynoa is also exhibiting some major reverse splits as right-handed batters are hitting .304 against Ynoa with four homers in 76 at-bats. Ynoa has struggled lately with a 4.88 ERA over the month of June. After a great April, Ynoa has been declining ever since, I expected him to continue this trend tonight and let the horrible Oriole bullpen take over…which is when the real fun begins!
