Welcome everyone to the Tour Championship Final Ownership Projections. This week we are at East Lake, a Donald Ross designed course that will play more difficult than the birdie fest we saw last week at the BMW . There is some serious chalk this week due to the small field, in cash games you won’t have to worry about it, in big GPP’s it will make a major difference in whether you cash, split a pot with 400 strangers, or smash your way to a takedown.

Patrick Reed just left the hospital with double pneumonia and he’s planning on playing this week. Can you say weakness, becoming tired easily, soreness and difficulty breathing ? That doesn’t sound like a champion, or Captain America, more like a wheezing spokesperson for a nebulizer or an inhaler sponsor. Oosti didn’t seem to have any lingering neck issues last week and he is still a risk for withdrawal for any number of other reasons. Morikawa’s back injury seems to be healing, his game however is still on life support, he is a contrarian play this week. There are rumors of a Spieth injury, and they are just that-rumors only.

This weeks ownership came with a few surprises, for one we had to break down the packets in eight sections on each packet, the reason is the 150 max entries normally play a 4 or 5 core unit with a one or two player offset. This is closely linked to algorithm methods. Think of 150 plays where 4 golfers are the same and you use golfer 5 or golfer 6 to get different. This week when you do that you still have 30, 60 or 90 plays still left due to the short 30 golfer field. At least half of the max entries got cut back to three core players to allow more diversity and an anomaly or two. Again, please be mindful of your ownership positions if you are playing the large multi entry tourneys.

Let’s take a look at your Tour Championship Final Ownership:

Thank you again for reviewing the The Tour Championship Final Ownership Projections article, we really do appreciate it. I’ll be in the Discord Channel after this article comes out to answer any questions. Please review the articles by Sia, Patrick, Antonio and Isaiah to help determine your rosters and lineups.

Sia’s Secret Weapon for The Tour Championship will not be posted tonight due to a no cut very small field. He ended up with a 43-12 record for having to take a golfer with very bad metrics that no one wants to roster. That is close to 80% winners where pundits normally cringe at the thought of having to pick a golfer. Kudos to Sia for such an outstanding record! That’s expert handicapping. Antonio has been rolling with his BBB play in Discord, and I hit a streak every now and then with the Frisky Biscuit play. Joel has made more than the national GDP of Surinam with his Showdown takedowns. The next tourney rolls out on September 16th and it’s the “Fortinet” out in sunny (and smoky) California, then the Ryder Cup where chants of “USA, USA” can be heard throughout the tourney.

Sia and Joel have their livestream Tuesday nights at 8:00 EST, Spencer from Tee Off Sports has joined them with in depth roster building and model forecasting and Spencer correctly picked Tony Finau at 60-1 odds to win the first of the championship leg, last week he had Cantlay to win, he has picked three outrights in a row. Sia and Joel also had Burns as a first round leader and there was quite a bit of money made.

Draft Master Flex aka Joel opened the livestream last night with a play on words to a song called Welcome to Atlanta (where the players play). To think that he would be trying to plug a rap song on a golf show is absolutely Ludacris.

As always, I hope to be with you on Sunday afternoon, in the money. You can also come and hang out in the Win Daily Sports Discord Chat to talk it out with everyone before the lock!

PGA DFS Course Notes:

  • Just 30 golfers & no cut
  • Players starting “scores” are determined by their FedExCup positions (-10 thru even par)
  • Those starting scores are reflected in the pricing
  • The course: East Lake Golf Club (Atlanta, GA)
    • Par 70: 7,346 yards – Donald Ross design (renovations have made it tougher over the years)
    • Bermuda Greens
    • Long par 3s and 4s
      • Other Ross courses with correlative success: Sedgefield, Plainfield, Aronimink Golf Club, Oak Hill, Pinehurst #2.
      • Weather expected to have minimal effect this week, course will be receptive during outset
  • Focus Stat Categories: Strokes Gained: Approach, SG: Ball Striking, Opportunities Gained, SG: Putting (Bermuda), Par 4s Gained (450-500), Par 5s Gained, Good Drives Gained

The Picks:

Elite PGA DFS (DK $11,000 and up):

Patrick Cantlay (DK $13,400) – It’s going to be hard to pay the obnoxious price for the guy starting off 10 strokes under par, but the performance of Cantlay’s driver and putter in that epic playoff victory shows that he’s really in a good place (with a two shot lead over the heading into the Tour Championship. I have more interest in the other guys but will find a way to fit him into 2/10 GPPs.

Jon Rahm (DK $13,000) – After a hot start at Caves Valley, Rahm seemed to get a bit distracted and annoyed and faded down the stretch, finishing in a share of ninth place after shooting a two-under 70 in the final round of the BMW Championship. He’s only four back of the lead heading into the Tour Championship, but he’s awfully expensive, so he almost has to win to justify the price. I’ll use him in 2/10 GPPs.

Tony Finau (DK $11,800) – Finau already has a one stroke lead on Rahm and sits just three back after a blistering final round 63 that included birdies on five of his final six holes – the lowest round of the day by two shots. His confidence and putting is at an all-time high and those are traditionally the only things that have kept him from the elite tier of PGA Tour golfers.

Also consider: Bryson DeChambeau (GPP), Justin Thomas (GPP)

Mid-Range PGA DFS (DK $8,000 to $10,900):

Dustin Johnson (DK $10,700) – I’ve got to hand it to Steven Polardi (AKA Sicily Kid) with his DJ pick last week, since I was unconvinced he had his driver figured out. Johnson’s 27 birdies were the second most in the field for the week, and East Lake, while difficult, has been one of his favorite venues. DJ also ranked fourth in SG: OTT last week and seventh in SG: Putting, so he’s got a shot at defending his title this week.

Rory McIlroy (DK 9,300) – Rory is just way too cheap given how well he’s been striking it (he ranked second in SG: OTT and fourth in SG: T2G last week). At this price he really only needs to sneak into the Top 5 for the week, and he’s only four strokes off of that slot to start the tournament. He’s a horse for the East Lake course and will be in my core for cash and single-entry GPP.

Xander Schauffele (DK 8,900) – Schauffele’s in a similar position to Rory (starting at -2) and is even $400 cheaper. Sia points out in the Initial Picks article that Xander’s true score in last year’s event was -15, and his solid course history (and track record in no-cut events) means he’s an excellent (but likely popular) value play this week.

Viktor Hovland $8,000) – Hovland immediately stuck out to me as a guy who we routinely look to in cash builds for his consistency, and even if that hasn’t ben there of late (largely due to a poor putter), the change of venue and immediacy of the Tour Championship should help him exorcise some of those demons and finish in the Top 10.

Also consider: Cameron Smith (GPP), Harris English, Sam Burns (GPP)

Value PGA DFS (DK $5,000 to $7,900):

Brooks Koepka (DK $7,800) – Something has been off about Koepka for a while now, but he made 21 birdies last week despite some poor putting and we know he usually saves his most epic performances for high profile events. He may not have a great shot at winning, but he’s in the same starting position as McIlroy and Schauffele and comes at a severely discounted price.

Scottie Scheffler (DK $6,800) – As well as he hit the ball on approach last week, I could see Scheffler getting his driver straightened out and come out firing with a 65 or 66 and cutting the gap to five strokes of the lead after Day 1. He’s a sneaky play at this price and will be in my single-entry core.

Hideki Matsuyama (DK $6,400) – We know that Deki can make birdies in bunches when he’s rolling it good, since his ball striking remains elite on the PGA Tour. The reigning Master champ is coming off a disappointing week at Caves Valley, but he’s bound to popular at this price.

Daniel Berger (DK $5,800) – Berger will garner a ton of ownership and makes a lot of sense as a starting value piece for cash game builds, especially considering he finds a way to sneak into the Top 15 at East Lake almost every year. My GPP ownership will be predicate don where the field lands.

Joaquin Niemann (DK $5,600) – Niemann started off slowly last week but came alive with 15 birdies over his last two rounds to sneak into the Top 30. The price is way too low and he’ll be in my core of GPP value plays, possibly making the final cut for my single-entry builds.

Also consider: Sungjae Im, Jason Kokrak, Erik van Rooyen

Welcome to the FedEx Cup Playoff finale. The Tour Championship will guarantee some big paydays for this entire field, with the winner taking home 15 million dollars. The DK field is comprised of only 29 players but Patrick Reed should be added which would round out the 30 person field. We will talk about course dynamics and roster construction on Tuesday’s PGA Livestream so make sure to join us there at 8:00 EST. Please keep in mind starting strokes apply here (which we will also talk about on the PGA show). My focus this week is to be a little more contrarian than normal in GPP as there will be some mega-chalk with this week. Let’s get to the Tour Championship picks.

Jon Rahm (13000) – Rahm begins this tournament four shots behind pre-tournament leader Patrick Cantlay, but that doesn’t concern me at all. Rahm is playing better golf than anyone and I expect him to prove he’s the best golfer on the planet this week. He starts at -6.

Tony Finau (11000) – He’s in excellent form (other than a pedestrian showing last week), but he’ll only be a play for me if his ownership is relatively low (relative to the rest of the 10k and above range). He starts at -8.

Dustin Johnson (10700) – I think DJ will end up being relatively contrarian since most people will choose to pay up for a star in better form or pay down for a guy like Rory or Xander (both of whom I also like). DJ isn’t in the best form but has some great East Lake and Tour Championship history. Won’t take much for him to get his groove back. He starts at -3.

Rory McIlroy (9300) – Great price plus great form plus great history. Rory is likely to be very popular at this price so feel free to fade him due to ownership, but he’s a great value and I’ll find a way to play him. He starts at -2.

Xander Schauffele (8900) – Another guy likely to be popular and for good reason. He absolutely destroys East Lake and illustrated that last year shooting a true 15 under par (that’s NOT accounting for starting strokes). He starts at -2.

Viktor Hovland (8000) – I’m trying to stay patient with Hovland as he was a disappointment last week. With that said, he did gain over 5.5 strokes BS and it was the short game that really failed him. At this price I’m willing to see if he can turn it around and climb the Tour Championship leaderboard. He starts at -3.

Scottie Scheffler (6800) – He was curiously bad OTT last week but great on APP. He’s way behind from a starting strokes standpoint but certainly has the complete game to climb the leaderboard. He starts at -1.

Hideki Matsuyama (6400) – A monster with the ball striking and simply needs to catch a good putter. It’s a tall order for Hideki to climb the Tour Championship leaderboard, but at this price I’m willing to invest (unless his ownership is prohibitive). He starts at -1.

Joaquin Niemann (5600) – With Berger and EVR likely garnering a ton of ownership, I’ll use Niemann as my GPP pivot. Niemann was great BS last week and was bad with the short game. I’m willing to take a chance on him to avoid some chalk (I do like Berger’s price so I will find a way to play him here and there despite his anticipated mega-chalk status). Niemann starts at -1.

Secret Weapon (less than 7k/less than 5% owned) – Current record is 43-12. No SW with the short field and no cut.

Welcome all to the BMW Championship Final Ownership Projections. This week we are at Cave Valley near Baltimore. The last time pros played Cave Valley was 2007, where the Americans routed the British in the Palmer Cup. Since then they have lengthened the venue, as well as removed trees, which is a popular move these days on the courses. Surprisingly there were 5 players who played lights out 14 years ago who are teeing it up tomorrow. D.J., Simpson, Harman, Horschel, and Chris Kirk. Luke List was the only team member who isn’t playing this weekend. DJ hasn’t been playing up to his baseline lately, although his record on courses like this is pretty strong. He did mention that he likes playing this course. Spieth also has had lots of rounds at this course although last week he regressed into his “did anyone see where that shot went?” mode. He had back to back eagles on one day and back to back triple bogeys the next.

Patrick Reed flew back to Houston after withdrawing right before lock last week. He went into the doctor to get treatment on his ankle and was hospitalized with double pneumonia. I had it once as a child and also in the Marines as a result of a combat mission. It’s a scary diagnosis and very serious. Collin Morikawa revealed after his subpar play last week that he had lingering issues with a back injury suffered at the Olympics. I hope the PGA understands how important DFS is to growing the game and viewership of the game. Not disclosing previous injuries is an issue they need to address. Oosti is playing this week after withdrawing with a neck sprain last week.

My picks for the BMW Championship

Top Tier: Rahm, D.J.

Mid Tier: Smith, Casey, Sungjae IM

Low Tier: Bradley, Tringale, Vegas

Out in Left Play: Emiliano Grillo

Frisky Risky Biscuit Play: * In Discord later Tonight ! *Risky

The best value plays on the board as far as salary without ownership included are Casey, Burns, Neimann and Sungjae IM. Thank you again for reviewing the The BMW Championship Final Ownership Projections article, we really do appreciate it. I’ll be in the Discord Channel after this article comes out to answer any questions. Please review the articles by Sia, Patrick, Antonio and Isaiah to help determine your rosters and lineups.

Do not forget that Sia’s Secret Weapon for The BMW Championship will be released in Discord later on tonight! His record is an amazing 43-12 for the bottom tier that no one likes to play. Antonio will be releasing his BBB play and my frisky risky play will be released as well. Any late breaking steam plays or news, including weather, will be updated tonight in Discord.

Sia and Joel have their livestream Tuesday nights at 8:00 EST, Spencer from Tee Off Sports has joined them with in depth roster building and model forecasting and Spencer correctly picked Tony Finau at 60-1 odds to win last week. Nice.

I allegedly got a video last night of people in Baltimore holding pitchforks and torches and demanding to know where Draft Master Flex aka Joel was, apparently on last nights livestream he allegedly mentioned something about millionaire golfers being a little hesitant to live in Baltimore, which once held the number one ranking for murder in the city for many years. We’re number one has a different ring to it sometimes, I let the mob know he was reachable at Fort Knox, where 93.7 million pounds of gold reside, and with all his recent big wins, about one fourth of that was his. I don’t think pitchforks will hold up well with soldiers stationed there. No one has ever robbed Fort Knox, in fact no one has ever attempted it, lots and lots of armed soldiers at every corner may have something to do with that. I’m hoping that you all will experience your own Fort Knox moment this weekend when you take down a tourney and make it rain.

As always, I hope to be with you on Sunday afternoon, in the money. You can also come and hang ou thet in the Win Daily Sports Discord Chat to talk it out with everyone before the lock!

The Northern Trust: Initial Picks

Sia

Welcome to the first round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The Northern Trust features the Top 124 in the standings (125 minus Louis) and it is therefore a field that is packed with talent. This course will require all features of the golf game to be firing which means to be successful you’ll need to be good with the short and long game. We will talk plenty about course dymanics and metrics on tonight’s PGA Livestream with Joel and Spencer and myself so tune in at 8:00 EST for that. And now let’s get to the picks for The Northern Trust.

Jon Rahm (11500) – Just like anyone else, Rahm can sometimes have a bad putting tournament but he is absolutely elite in every other department.  Only thing that can stop this guy in 2021 is Covid.  Tough to play him at this price, but if that keeps his ownership down, I’m all aboard.

Jordan Spieth (10800) – The only knock on Spieth is that his long iron game hasn’t been clicking on all cylinders, but outside off that he checks all the boxes.  Last 36 rounds he’s Number 1 in this field in the following categories that I’ve put into my model:  BOB Gained, SG Par 5 and Draftking points.  He’s also inside the Top 15 in the following categories:  APP, PUTT, ARG, T2G, P4 450-500 and Bogey Avoidance.  He’s got the all around game you’re looking for.

Abraham Ancer (9400) – The only issue with Ancer in this tournament is that you’re obviously buying the stock at its height as he’s coming off a win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude.  With that said, he’s been in good form for a while and has all-around game that we are looking for with the Ball Striking and the short game.

Scottie Scheffler (9300) – This guy hasn’t lost strokes ball striking since the Reagan Administration.  He’s also 2nd in this field in BOB gained over the Last 36 rounds. Plenty of upside here at The Northern Trust.

Webb Simpson (8900) – Webb was a pick of ours last week because he had great course history and because it looked like he had finally turned a corner.  He may not be the best course fit this week, but the corner appears to have been turned which makes this the right price.

Paul Casey (8700) – Seems like a very fair price for a golfer who is in great form and also has the all-around game to compete at this course.  He’s great with the long irons and is actually a much better scorer than most people think as the last 36 rounds establish:  15th in BOB gained, 2nd in SG Par 5, 8th in DK Points and 2nd T2G.  If he gets super popular then he may be relegated to cash only, but for now he can be used in both formats.

Jason Kokrak (7700) – Another golfer that has the upside to smash his soft price and who can pile up the DFS points in a hurry.  His main issue is the SG ARG, but even with that he is still inside the Top 20 in my model (with the upside to finish much higher than that).

Shane Lowry (7500) – Lowry has some flaws OTT and with the PUTT but he really makes up for it on APP.  If he can get things going OTT then I think he can be inside the Top 10 at the close of this tournament.  A GPP play with some upside here.

Brendan Grace (7200) – Much like Lowry, he can be a little erratic OTT, but he makes up for it with great APP play and he can sometimes get red-hot with the putter.  He has finished inside the Top 10 in 3 of his last 5 tournaments so the upside is there to finish high at The Northern Trust.

Charley Hoffman (7000) – He hasn’t played much golf at all lately and I think the time off will help him get back on track.  Hoffman is a consummate ball striker, and quite frankly, does everything well.  If he were coming in with some recent play and good form under his belt, he’d be priced 1000 dollars higher.  I’m happy to take this leap.

Charl Schwartzl (6900) – The DFS community is sophisticated enough to not jump off of a guy due to an MC, but we’ll need to wait and see what happens with Charl after his very poor showing last week.  He’s been in good form overall and I think he’s a value at this price in spite of burning plenty of lineups last week.  A GPP consideration only.

Hank Lebioda (6300) – the metrics are starting to slip a bit for this DFS Darling, but he still rates out as 50th in my model.  He’s pretty weak OTT but he rates out above average on everything else I looked at.

Secret Weapon (less than 7k/less than 5% owned) – Current record is 42-12. See you in Discord.

If you haven’t already, subscribe to Win Daily Sports on YouTube and at the Apple Podcasts and check out all the content at windailysports.com. It’s also important to be in Discord Wednesday night for all Northern Trust lineup adjustments, late breaking news and weather reports.

Welcome to The Northern Trust Final Ownership Projections, this week is the first week of the FedEx Championships, where 124 golfers (Oosti will not be in the player pool this week) will try to make the top 70 to move on to next week and the ultimate prize in East Lake, where first place is 15 million instead of ten, and last place makes you a millionaire. This years prize pool is 60 million, the players are allegedly very thankful for Joel, aka Draft Master Flex, for arranging the additional financing.

This field is loaded, our program told us it was the strongest field in the PGA tourney, not only this year, but in all history. When you see 6K players who have won a tourney or two, you’ll know why.

Bryson Dechambeau is walking into a hornets nest, New Yorkers, for some reason, do not like him at all and they will be in different phases of sobriety this weekend, they will be heckling Bryson, often, always, and in a very loud fashion. His low ownership reflects that.

Daniel Berger’s dad was once ranked 7th in the world as a top tennis pro, when Daniel was 13 he took his son to a golf course and asked the head pro to watch him for a few minutes and see if he had potential. They hit a few sleeves on the range and the pro asked Daniel if he was ready to play the course. “What are we going to play for” the youngster asked, “Let’s play a $20 closeout.” While the pro was asking him if it was alright, Daniel shot back with, “are you alright with getting your butt kicked by a 13 year old ?” That’s what I call moxie. Rahm has it, D.J. has it but he’s more reserved, Koepka has a huge neon sign with moxie plastered across his chest. Hatton and Garcia have it, but their emotions can get them unhinged. Berger has a lot of moxie and a lot riding on this weekend, the biggest challenge is for him to make the Ryder cup and he will be auditioning all weekend. I will have some shares of Berger this week, I like moxie, also some Spieth and Rahm as well.

Our program said 48 of the golfers this week have a shot at winning this tourney, that’s getting close to half the field and that’s the most its ever come up with, thus the strongest field narrative. Let’s get to the ownership so you can review and adjust your rosters if necessary.

Thank you again for reviewing the The Northern Trust Final Ownership Projections article, we really do appreciate it. I’ll be in the Discord Channel after this article comes out to answer any questions. Please review the articles by Sia, Patrick, Isaiah and Antonio to help determine your picks and lineups.

Do not forget that Sia’s Secret Weapon for The Northern Trust will be released in Discord later on tonight! His record is an amazing 43-12 for the bottom tier that no one likes to play. Antonio will be releasing his BBB play and my frisky risky play will be released as well. Any late breaking steam plays or news, including weather, will be updated tonight in Discord.

Sia and Joel have their livestream Tuesday nights at 8:00 EST, Spencer from Tee Off Sports has joined them with in depth roster building, and they have a new segment called good chalk, bad chalk. When have any golf experts gone thru the player field, picking out some higher owned players and given them either a good chalk or bad chalk designation? It’s never happened until now, and Win Daily Sports has it. This is a good barometer for choosing cash, GPP, 50/50 and 3 max plays.

Ownership this week is spread pretty evenly, it’s due to the super strength of the field, lot’s of good choices, there are a few glaring players who are about 10% under owned, this is due to industry bias, and also that Dechambeau will be heckled with no mercy all tournament long, whether its for 2 days or 4 remains to be seen. They call Philadelphia the city of brotherly love, yet it’s the only city where the football fans booed Santa Claus and ran him off the field, injuring him, by pelting him with snowballs and slush balls. It’s probably a good thing it’s not snowing in NY/NJ this week at Liberty National golf course. New Yorkers could eat Philly fans for breakfast.

As always, I hope to be with you on Sunday afternoon, in the money. You can also come and hang ou thet in the Win Daily Sports Discord Chat to talk it out with everyone before the lock!

Welcome to The Wyndham Championship Final Ownership projections, this week there are golfers trying to get in the top 125 rankings to grab their share of sixty million dollars in prize money. The winner gets 15 million instead of 10 million, and the prizes increase as they go down the line. There is no truth to the rumor that FedEx negotiated with our own Draft Master Flex, aka Joel, for a loan to increase the payouts this year.

Last week Oosti fell apart on Sunday, his ball striking game was a tiny bit suspect, with Webb Simpsons ownership close to 30%, right now Oosti has a baseline that is +.21 better than Simpsons. Webb Simpson has a daughter named Wyndham, he has a home on the course, and he finishes top 5 here.

Please be aware that in the large GPP contests a majority of the players will pick two top tier players and four popular value plays. The top tier chalk is good chalk, the four most popular value plays are deadly for your lineups. Please be prepared to pivot for the 7K and 8K heavy chalk ownership.

Speaking of ownership, I listened to a podcast where the host said, “ownership isn’t important to me, golf is way to volatile.” He had his cohost agree and said, “I’m glad you’re on the same page with me.” What I find so amusing is that they mentioned ownership almost 20 times in a short podcast, then stopped the show, twice, so they could look up several golfers ownership. I’m wondering if they were just filling dead air, or humoring the masses who do find it an integral part of winning GPP tourneys, it’s one or the other. Of course I’m biased on ownership because I write about it, breathe it and live it every week.

I’m in St Pete beach this week finishing a deal that cut my last vacation short, besides signing off on the deal, I got in some parasailing, wave running and some minor adult beverage consumption. St Pete is 4 times more expensive than Belize, so don’t stay at a resort hotel, just buy one. I’m a firm believer in balancing work and recreation.

Lets get to these ownership numbers so you can hit that next big takedown and start giving Conrad Hilton or JW Marriott a run for their money.

Sia and Joel have their livestream Tuesday nights at 8:00 EST, (last nights episode was hot, hot, hot and featured Spenser from the bettor golf podcast) and they go over every price range, the top plays, value plays and sleepers, as well as a new segment called good chalk/ bad chalk that has become very popular. Why go anywhere else when you can hear from two experts who are closing in on $450,000+ in winnings this year. Joel goes for his seat in the DK golf finals this week, with millions on the line he will be in the thick of the race. All the construction contractors in Texas have left and are heading to Joel’s house, I hope Jersey has good BBQ, rumors are that he needs lots more closets built to stuff his DK winnings into.

As always, I hope to be with you on Sunday afternoon, in the money. You can also come and hang ou thet in the Win Daily Sports Discord Chat to talk it out with everyone before the lock!
