NHL

After a weird Monday slate, we get to break down a massive 12 gamer tonight. There should be quite a few different paths to the top of the leaderboards tonight, so don’t worry too much about ownership. Quite a few teams are on a back-to-back, and there are a few obvious spots on the board. Check out our NHL DFS picks for FanDuel and DraftKings below. Good luck!

Goalies

Ilya Samsonov – Toronto Maple Leafs: The Leafs host the Ducks tonight in what should be a very, very tough game for the Ducks. Toronto and Anaheim are not on the same level at this point in their franchises, and Toronto should be able to handle this game easily. Samsonov is your cash goalie on the night, as the Ducks come into this one scoring less than a goal per game on the road over their last five. Oh yeah, they played last night, too.

James Reimer – San Jose Sharks: Reimer returns after a short IR stint to face the Coyotes, which is a nice way for him to ease back into action. He should be able to get a win tonight, albeit with limited upside.

Andrei Vasilevskiy – Tampa Bay Lightning: The Lightning host the Kraken tonight, and Vasilevskiy should have a decent chance to dominate tonight. There could be a slight issue with the number of shots he faces, but Vas feels like a solid play overall.

Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets: The Jets host the Eichel-less Golden Knights tonight, and Hellebuyck looks like a solid play tonight.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Ville Husso – Detroit Red Wings: The Wings host the Hurricanes tonight, who love to shoot the puck. There is some upside here for Husso, who has some solid numbers recently. There is also some risk, because we know the Canes can score. Without Aho, Carolina is a little less daunting, so this is a solid play tonight.

Others to Consider: Linus Ullmark (BOS), Pyotr Kochetkov (CAR)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Toronto Maple Leafs Power Play – Auston Matthews/John Tavares/Mitch Marner/William Nylander/Rasmus Sandin: This is about the best spot there can be for DFS purposes. The Toronto power play is ranked in the top 10 of the league, while the Ducks’ PK is next to last. Sandin has been very solid playing on this unit, so he and AM34 are a must tonight. The formula is there for these guys to break the slate.

San Jose Sharks 1 – Tomas Hertl/Timo Meier/Kevin Labanc/Erik Karlsson: The Coyotes are just bad. They are ranked second in the league in HDCA/60 on the season so far, and the Sharks should be able to take care of business tonight. This top line is a great late night play, and they should have their chances. You can also consider adding Couture/Barabanov in with Hertl/Meier/Karlsson, which creates a power play look.

Washington Capitals 1 – Dylan Strome/Conor Sheary/Alex Ovechkin/John Carlson: The Caps head to the Windy City tonight to take on Mrazek and the Blackhawks. Mrazek is back after a week or so off with a groin injury, and tonight is going to be a tough game for him. The top six line matching scheme for the Hawks sets this line up for a nice night tonight.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Buffalo Sabres 2 – Dylan Cozens/JJ Peterka/Jack Quinn: The Sabres get a date with the Kings tonight, and it looks like LA will be rolling Pheonix Copley in net. The way they match their lines, this second line should see a good bit of the Kopitar line tonight, creating a plus matchup. They aren’t the most prolific scoring line in the league, so they are a riskier play, but worth a look tonight.

New Jersey Devils 2 – Erik Haula/Jack Hughes/Dawson Mercer: This play is a little more about recent data than it is about matchup. Dallas has been okay on defense all year, but this line has been scorching hot of late. It looks like Wedgewood suits up for the Stars in net, so this could be an interesting spot.

Tampa Bay Lightning Power Play – Brayden Point/Steven Stamkos/Brandon Hagel/Nikita Kucherov/Victor Hedman: The Lightning power play gets a nice matchup against Seattle’s 28th ranked penalty kill tonight. They fall under high risk because the Kraken have been surprisingly stingy on defense all year. However, their recent numbers show them being a little worse on defense than their season long baseline, so this is a very interesting play tonight.

Florida Panthers 1 – Aleksander Barkov/Carter Verhaeghe/Sam Reinhart/Aaron Ekblad: The Panthers have a massive total tonight, and they get to face Merzlikins in net for the Blue Jackets. That sets them up for a very nice overall matchup. However, there is some risk in playing these guys tonight, as the Jackets are actually somewhat limiting defensively. This line should have some chances, but they will have to capitalize on every one they get. They are worth a look, but proceed with caution.

Tonight offers us another very solid looking six game slate in the NHL. There are some interesting games tonight that could either way, and definitely some nice spots to attack. Let’s get into our NHL DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins: The Pens host the Stars tonight in what should be a good spot for Jarry. The Stars tend to struggle on the road, and this should be a spot where Jarry can pick up the win.

Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers: Igor should see a bunch of shots tonight, as the Rangers host the Devils, so there is definitely some upside potential here. He is a little risky, given how well NJ has played this year, but there is a potential for upside tonight.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Stuart Skinner – Edmonton Oilers: Skinner has been playing fairly well over his last five starts, but Edmonton as a whole has not been very good on defense all year. His recent numbers are definitely improving, so this is a good place to look for a potential upside, leverage win.

Others to Consider: Juuse Saros (NSH), Thomas Greiss (STL), Vitek Vanecek (NJD)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Ottawa Senators Power Play – Tim Stutzle/Drake Batherson/Brady Tkachuk/Alex Debrincat/Thomas Chabot: The top play on the board tonight appears to be the Sens’ power play. They get to face the Ducks’ 30th ranked PK unit and will definitely have their chances. Keep an eye on the Debrincat news, as he has a GTD tag on him. You can also give the second Ottawa line a good look tonight, provided that Debrincat plays. If not the, the focus shifts to Stutzle/Tkachuk/Chabot as a 3-man.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Calgary Flames 1 – Elias Lindholm/Jonathan Huberdeau/Tyler Toffoli/Rasmus Andersson: The Flames’ top line appears to be in a great spot tonight, as they head to Montreal to face the Canadiens. Jake Allen looks to be getting the nod in net for the Habs, and this line should be able to do some damage against him tonight. There is some risk in that the Flames have been struggling to score recently, but this is a nice get-right spot for them to change that.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Evgeni Malkin/Jason Zucker/Bryan Rust: The Pens put their fourth line on the opposing top line, which sets up a great matchup for this second line against the Dallas depth. The top line for the Pens is in play, but there appears to be a little more value in this line tonight.

Minnesota Wild 1 – Sam Steel/Kirill Kaprizov/Mats Zuccarello/Jared Spurgeon: The top line for Minnesota has a juicy matchup against the depth lines for Edmonton tonight, and this could be one of those surprise spots. Steel on this line provides a good bit of value, making them workable for a lot of combinations of lineup builds.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: ANH2, MTL1, PIT1, EDMPP, STL2

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: Sam Steel ($3500) – Minnesota Wild

Wing: Tyler Motte ($2800) – Ottawa Senators

Defense: Brian Dumoulin ($2800) – Pittsburgh Penguins

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Sam Steel ($3900) – Minnesota Wild

Wing: Tyler Motte ($4200) – Ottawa Senators

Defense: Brian Dumoulin ($4200) – Pittsburgh Penguins

Cash Considerations – DraftKings and FanDuel

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  With just 5 games on tap tonight, our options are going to be somewhat limited. We also have a handful of teams playing on the tail end of a back-to-back. That said, it should be a fun slate .

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Matt Murray ($8.1K DK/$8.4k FD) vs. Calgary Flames – The Flames showed last night that they are definitely not the same Flames team of years past. Against a poor defensive Blue Jackets team, they mustered just 1 goal, leaving plenty of NHL DFS lineups to rot. Tonight, we’ll use the Flames a bit differently. We’re going to attack them with a goalie.

Matt Murray is coming into this game off arguably the game of his career. Against the powerful Stars team, he stopped all 44 shots on his way to a 43 DK performance. I’m not calling for a repeat performance, but we know he has upside and won’t break the bank at $8.1k on DK. Murray has been strong all year with just 2 games under 10 DK points this season. The Maple Leafs are strong favorites in this one, solidifying this pick.

Jonathan Quick ($8k DK/$6.8k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – This is more of a matchup play than a testament to the play of Quick. While the Canadiens haven’t been awful this season, their offense has left a lot to be desired. Of all the teams playing tonight, they have the lowest goals per game over the last couple of weeks and if we look out to a longer view, it would be a similar story.

Quick has been far from great this year, with a 3.42 GAA and a .887 save %. That said, he has shown at times the ability to have a strong game and I think this environment tonight is one that he could do well in. He’s much more of a play on FD tonight as he’s under $7k there.

NHL DFS Stacks

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby, Guentzel, Rakell) + Petry vs. Buffalo

We get a repeat matchup between the Sabres and Penguins tonight. The 2 teams combined to scored 7 goals last night and i wouldn’t be surprised to see more than tonight as both teams should have some tired legs and that normally equates to some sloppier play. Vegas agrees as this game already has an implied goal total of 7. That’s high!

I’m starting off my roster tonight with the top line for Pittsburgh. Although Crosby was a huge disappointment last night, his linemates weren’t. Both Guentzel and Rakell had goals last night and were productive. Guentzel is now up to 8 points over his last 5 games and for me tonight, is the most important piece to this stack.

Kings 1 (Kopitar, Fiala, Kaliyev) + Doughty vs. Montreal

I like to pick and choose my spots with the Los Angeles Kings and tonight seems like a spot to use them in. With Jake Allen expected to be in goal tonight for Montreal, we’ll have a goalie that has big goal upside. And by big goal upside, I mean he likes to give up a large number of goals. He has a bunch of games this season giving up at least 4 goals.

We’ll look to attack Montreal with the top line for the Kings. My core here will be Fiala. Over his last 5 games, Fiala has 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points. I’ll add in Kopitar to this core. Kopitar has 3 goals and 4 assists in his last 5, including a 3 assist game the other tonight. I’m not overly interested in Kaliyev.

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Bunting, Nylander) + Giordano vs. Calgary

The Maple Leafs’ offense has been showing a lot more consistency lately and that has me all over them tonight, especially this top line. The Leafs have scored at least 4 goals in 5 of their last 7 games and are finally back to being that prolific scoring team.

While not a sneaky pick with this top line for the Leafs, it’s one that should do well. All 3 guys on this line are in play tonight. While Matthews is back to scoring goals with 4 in his last 5, I wouldn’t hold you back if you just wanted to play Nylander and Bunting tonight. Both guys have been productive with a combined 10 points over their last 5 games, and they come in much cheaper than Matthews. That said, Matthews is still an elite play tonight.

Other Stacks: Buffalo 1 and 2, Pittsburgh 2, Toronto 2, Montreal 1, Car 1 and 2, Min 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • T.J Brodie – $2.6k on DK
  • Brady Skjei – $3.3k on Dk
  • Jan Rutta– $2.7k on DK
  • Brian Dumoulin – $2.8k on DK

Summary

Tonight should be a fun night of NHL DFS. We have some really strong games tonight, including a repeat of the Sabres and Penguins.

We’re back for another WinDaily NHL Between the Benches Article! Lots of action tonight, and from the early games to the late, there will be lots to enjoy this evening! For tonight’s 12/9 NHL slate, we have a large-sized ten-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

12/9 NHL Stack Report

1. Calgary Flames 2 (Dube-Kadri-Mangiapane)

— The Flames have been an interesting side and although this season has been a bit of a roller coaster, their recent form has been as good as their name suggests, hot. Both teams in this matchup are coming into tonight’s game with three game streaks, with the Flames winning their last three and the Blue Jackets dropping their last three. In fact, over those three games, the Blue Jackets have coughed up an embarrassing 17 goals, that’s almost 6 goals against per game, including 6 that they gave up to the Sabres in the FIRST PERIOD of their last game. The Jackets looked one step behind for the entire game and I don’t think that things will look much different heading into tonight. Defensively, the Flames are leaps and bounds ahead of the Blue Jackets as Columbus holds the league’s worst goals against average per game at 4.16. Which is why it should come as no surprise that the Flames currently hold an implied goal total tonight of 4.1. Both of Calgary’s top two lines are solid options for tonight’s slate but I recommend taking the second line since they have been hotter as of late, and they are cheaper overall, which will help when trying to stack the other recommended line in today’s article. The Flames have also averaged over four goals over their current win streak and the second line in particular has scored 5 goals and four assists over that three game stretch!

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Rasmus Andersson

2. Boston Bruins 1 (Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk)

—This is the most significant mismatch of today’s slate and no matter what I would recommend having a piece of this game, whether it be the top, second or even the third line of the Boston Bruins. Straight away the first thing to note is that the bruins have only lost 3 games in regulation and one game in a shootout, that’s it, 21-3-1. A simply unbelievable start to their 2022-23 season. As a result, it should come as no surprise that the Bruins are heavy favourites coming into any matchup. However, tonight in particular, the Bruins are facing the 7-13-4 Coyotes who have lost their last six games and hold a 1-2-1 record at home. Statistically, this matchup is a bit of a joke, the Bruins either lead the league or are near the top in nearly every stat category, whereas the Coyotes are near the bottom if not dead last (dead last in shots on goal per game). For instance, in goals per game the Bruins have a 1.33 + advantage (3.96 to 2.63) and in goals allowed per game, the Bruins have a 1.55+ advantage (2.08 to 3.63). Every single stat category is very similar as on paper, the Bruins are better in every single way. I see this game’s scoreline getting out of hand very quickly, and I would recommend having a piece of the Bruins in your DFS lineups tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Charlie McAvoy (value option Matt Grzelcyk)

Honorable Mention(s): San Jose Sharks 2 (Bonino-Couture-Barabanov), New Jersey Devils 2 (Haula-Hughes-Mercer)

12/9 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Linus Ullmark
  2. Vitek Vanecek
Honorable Mention(s): Tristan Jarry, David Rittich

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Joonas Korpisalo
Honorable Mention(s): Karel Vejmelka

12/9 NHL Wild Card Targets

Taylor Hall
– Despite being on the Bruins third line, Hall is steadily seeing over 14 minutes of ice time per game this season and he’s recently put together a four game point streak in which he has scored five goals and two assists. He did not have the best start to the season but he has really come into form as of late and tonight against the Yotes, who as previously mentioned, are really struggling this season. Hall could provide good value and would give you a piece of what is looking like a lopsided and high scoring game.
Honorable Mention(s): Bryan Rust, Tyler Toffoli, Dylan Strome

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Nazem Kadri

Winger Brad Marchand

Defenseman – Rasmus Andersson

Goalie Linus Ullmark

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   We have a 7-game slate tonight that has some really solid spots for offense.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Linus Ullmark ($8.3K DK/$8.7k FD) vs. Colorado Avalanche – Jared, are you really picking on the Avalanche with a goalie? Yes, I 100% am tonight. If you haven’t heard the news yet, Nate MacKinnon has been ruled out for the next 4 weeks with an injury. That leaves this Avalanche team without it’s main offensive weapon and honestly, makes this Avalanche offense average at best.

This isn’t to take anything away from Ullmark. Ullmark has been great all season. He’s coming into this matchup 14-1 with a 1.93 GAA and a .936 save %. He’s made an early case for the Vezina Trophy. We have to go all the way back to Nov 1 to find a game where Ullmark hasn’t been in double-digit fantasy points on DK. I will add that although Ullmark does have a pretty save floor in this one, he also has a limited ceiling, making this more of a Cash game play.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen ($7.7k DK/$8.5k FD) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – After giving up a goal on the very first shot he saw last night, Tristan Jarry went on to completely shut down the Blue Jackets and go for 32 DK points. While i wouldn’t put Luukkonen in the same class as Jarry, he gets the same matchup vs. a Blue Jackets team that has scored just 12 goals over their last 6 games. After last night’s debacle, their shooting percentage over the last 2 weeks is now down to 6.5%. That’s awful.

With Luukkonen, we have a goalie that has struggled this season. He has a 4.17 GAA and a .856 save %. Sometimes in GPP’s you need to take a risk, and I’m going to take a risk tonight vs. a team struggling. He’s coming off a strong performance vs. a solid Sharks team and my hope is that it carries over into this matchup. I need to reiterate with this one, it’s a high risk only meant for GPP’s.

NHL DFS Stacks

Buffalo 2 (Cozens, Peterka, Quinn) + vs. Columbus

I attacked the Blue Jackets with PIttsburgh last night and it paid off as their top line had 2 goals and 3 assists. While this second line for Buffalo doesn’t have the pedigree of Pittsburgh’s top line or even the Sabres’ top line, it’s been balling out and has a chance to continue to do damage. The Blue Jackets should put their best defensive line against the Thompson line tonight, leaving this second line to do some damage.

My important pieces here are going to be Cozens and Quinn. Cozens is playing great right now, with 4 goals and 5 assists over his last 5 games. Quinn at just $3.1k tonight on DK is a solid value. Over his last 5, he has 3 goals and 2 assists. Adding in another cheapy in Peterka allows us to really free up a ton of cash tonight, while staying extremely productive.

Buffalo 1 is also 100% in play tonight. They’re just more expensive and may garner more ownership.

Boston 2 (Krejci, Zacha, Pastrnak) + Carlo vs. Colorado

The team that the will be skating for the Avalanche tonight will be vastly different than the team that won the Cup last season. There will be no Nazm Kadri, no Gabriel Landeskog, and most importantly there will be no Nathan MacKinnon. Not to say that it will be a team of scrubs that will be playing, but they won’t resemble a championship team.

Knowing all of that, I’m going to attack them with the best team in the NHL, the Boston Bruins. And we’ll go with one of the best players in the game in David Pastrnak. Pasta has been balling this season and of late. Over his last 5 games, Pasta has 5 goals and an assist. Against a weakened lineup for the Avalanche, he should be able to add to that total tonight. I’ll prioritize pairing him with Krejci as he has 5 points also over his last 5 games. I don’t often play the Bruins in NHL DFS because of their popularity, but I feel like tonight is a night they can go off big time.

Vancouver 2 (Pettersson, Boeser, Mikheyev) + Dobson vs. St. Louis

The Sharks will hand over the goalie crease to Kaapo Kahkonen tonight. Over his last 7 games, Kahkonen has given up at least 4 goals 5 times. He’s someone that is extremely attackable and I’ll do so with a team that has been scoring some goals. The Canucks have been scoring more than 3.5 goals per game over the last 2 weeks.

We’ll want to jump down to their second line as well tonight as it’s been the one doing the damage. Most notably by Elias Pettersson. Pettersson has 7 points over his last 5 games. He’s been the playmaker as he has 5 assists. Both of his linemates are extremely cheap tonight, but I’m going to pair him with Mikheyev tonight as he’s put 3 pucks in the net over his last 5. That’s a decent amount of production out of someone under $4k.

Other Stacks: Vegas 1 and 2, Edmonton 1, Rangers 1, Sharks 1, Cgy 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Alex Goligoski – $2.9k on DK
  • Travis Sanheim – $3.9k on Dk
  • Matt Benning – $3k on DK
  • Jared Spurgeon – $4.6k on DK

Summary

This has the makings of a super-fun slate tonight. I’ll be locked on both Buffalo and Boston tonight and will fit in Vancouver and Vegas where i can. The Rangers, as much as it pains me to say it, have been playing like hot garbage. Attack them where you can.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to Tuesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   We have a nice-sized 9-game slate tonight.  We have some lopsided matchups tonight so there should be plenty of offense to go around.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Tristan Jarry ($8.4K DK/$8.4k FD) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – Even though they have some nice shiny weapons on offense, this Blue Jackets team just hasn’t been getting it done. Over the last 2 weeks, the Blue Jackets are scoring just 2.20 goals per game on around 30 shots per game. Their 7.59% shooting percentage is one of the lowest of any team playing tonight.

With Jarry, we have a goalie on a roll right now. He hasn’t given up more than 3 goals in any of his last 6 games. On DK, he’s had at least 19 points in all 5 of those games. This seems like one of those lopsided spots that we’ll want to take advantage of both offensively and with our goalie. The Pens are massive favorites tonight so Jarry should get the W here. Look for him to continue his stretch of really solid play.

Ilya Sorokin ($8k DK/$8.5k FD) vs. St. Louis Blues – The Islanders and Sorokin get a nice matchup tonight vs. the St. Louis Blues. The Blues played a tough one last night against the Rangers and although they scored 4 goals, it was against a struggling Rangers team. They’re still a team that has scored just 2.86 goals per game over the last couple of weeks and are 1-6 in their last 7.

Sorokin has been one of the top goalies in the NHL this year and one that i use often with my NHL DFS lineups. Although he’s coming off a rare stinker vs. the Predators a few nights ago, i still really like his chances to be one of the top goalies on the slate tonight and his $8k DK salary is very reasonable.

NHL DFS Stacks

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby, Guentzel, Rakell) + Petry vs. Columbus

I mentioned in the goalie section that the Penguines are in a lopsided affair offensively tonight. In net for the Blue Jackets tonight will be Elvis Merzlikins. Merzlikins is statistically the worst goalie in the NHL these days. His Goals Saved Above Average is -12.9, by far the worst mark in the NHL. When he’s in net, we’ll want to take full advantage of the opportunity.

This top line for the Penguins has been playing great. Over their last 10 games together, they’ve scored 7 goals. Now we’ll want to keep an eye on Crosby’s status tonight as he’s listed as day-to-day, but if he’s in this line will be a core for me. Over his last 5 games, Crosby has 3 goals and 3 assists. His linemate Guentzel has also been extremely productive with 2 goals and 4 assists. This duo should be able to dominate tonight.

Seattle 2 (Beniers, McCann, Eberle) + Schultz vs. Montreal

Season 2 for the Kraken has been significantly better than the premier season. Over their last 6 games, the Kraken are 5-1 all while scoring on average 5 goals per game. This is a solid offense these days and one that will more than likely get to face Jake Allen tonight. Since November 1, Allen has played in 9 games. He’s given up less than 3 goals just twice and has given up more than 3 goals 6 times. He’s the equivalent of getting to face Dallas Keuchel.

This second unit for Seattle has been great. They’ve combined for 10 goals over their last 10 games, tied for the most in the NHL over that time. We’ll want to build around Matt Beniers and his 7 points over his last 5. At just $5k on DK, we’re getting someone putting up a ton of points at a low price. If we want to chase assists here, we’ll go with Jordan Eberle and his 6 assists in his last 5 games. This entire line makes for a solid full stack in a great matchup.

Islanders 2 (Nelson, Lee, Beauvillier) + Dobson vs. St. Louis

I would never call the Islanders a powerhouse of an offense, but oh do they get a great matchup tonight. The Blues are coming off a 6-4 loss to my New York Rangers and will get railroaded by yet another New York team tonight. The Blues are really struggling right now to keep the puck out of the net. Over the last 2 weeks, they’re giving up north of 5 goals per game. This is something we want to attack, especially since they’re on the second leg of a back-to-back.

The main scoring line for the Islanders is the second line, led by Brock Nelson. Nelson has 3 goals and 2 assists over his last 5 games and with this type of matchup, should continue to excel. I’ll prioritize getting Anders Lee into this stack as well. If you look at his metric right now, he’s got virtually nothing. Just one assist over his last 5. That said, he has 13 high danger chances and a 2.46 ixG. At some point, he’ll find the back of the net. It should be tonight.

Other Stacks: Devils 1 and 2, OTT 1, TB 2, Pitt 2, Tor 1, Dal 1 (Jason Robertson is playing like Gretzky)

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • John Marino – $3k on DK
  • Erik Cernak – $2.9k on Dk
  • Erik Gudbranson – $3.3k on DK
  • Johnathan Kovacevic – $2.5k on DK

Summary

Tonight’s looking like a great slate of hockey with some really clear spots for offense. While i didn’t list Jersey as a top line, they should smash in this spot.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  We have a monster of a slate tonight with 12 games on tap. While the marquis matchup of the night will be the Bruins vs. Avalanche, I’ll be looking elsewhere for offense as both teams can shut down offenses.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Karel Vejmelka ($7.3K DK/$7k FD) vs. Vancouver Canucks – Karel Vejmlelka is one of the more volatile goalies in the NHL. If you have played him in NHL DFS before, you’re well aware of the swings he’ll give you. On any given night, he can net well over 20 DK points thanks to the volume of shots he gets. He can also net you single-digit points just like he did the other night vs. the Kings. I’m more of a GPP player and he’ll be my lock for GPP’s tonight thanks to his price point and upside.

Vitek Vanecek ($8.3k DK/$8.5k FD) vs. Philadelphia Flyers – We saw some struggles out of Vanecek on Thursday night vs. Nashville as he gave up 4 goals on just 24 shots. It happens sometimes and while the Predators’ offense hadn’t really been clicking of late, they do have some firepower. I’m more than willing to go right back to the well tonight with Vanecek in a solid matchup vs. a bad Flyers team.

The Flyers are just 1-4-2 over their last 7 games and are scoring just 2.14 goals per game during those 7. They’re struggling and we’ll want to attack them with a goalie. Look for Vanecek to return to form tonight and end up being one of the top-performing goalies of the night.

NHL DFS Stacks

Rangers 2 (Chytil, Panarin, Kravtsov) + Miller vs. Chicago

The New York Rangers get a great matchup tonight vs. a BAD Chicago Blackhawks team. The Blackhawks are giving up over 5 goals per game over the last 2 weeks. That’s just awful. Even though they played last night and may have tired legs, tired legs are still better than what the Blackhawks are putting out nightly.

The Rangers put together this line last night and it paid dividends immediately as Kravtsov had a goal thanks to a helper from Panarin. This line, while risky, has immense upside. They are also dirt cheap as Kravtsov is only $2.5k on DK. Although Chytil didn’t get any points last night, he did have 5 shots on net. If this line plays like they did last night, the skies the limit for them in this one.

New Jersey 2 (Hughes, Haula, Mercher) + Graves vs. Philly

Over his last 7 games, Carter Hart has given up at least 4 goals 5 times. That is not good and that is 100% something we want to exploit with our stacks, especially with one of the top players in the NHL. Jack Hughes is one of my favorite plays of the night.

Over his last 5 games, he’s been dynamite, with 5 goals and 2 assists. His 12 goals on the season are already the second most he’s had in his career and if he can stay healthy and play a full season, he’ll obliterate his career high of 26. I’ll pair him with his cheap linemates of Haula and Mercer. Both guys have 4 assists over their 5 games and are $4k or less on DK.

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman) vs. Edmonton

I’ve given 2 cheap stacks so far, let’s go with an expensive one here. The Oilers get the luxury of facing Jake Allen and the Canadiens tonight. Although Allen had a monster night vs. Calgary on Thursday, he had games of 6 and 7 goals allowed in the month of November. The Canadiens have lapses where they forget to play D and against a potent duo of McDavid and Draisaitl, that’s a recipe for disaster.

There’s not much I need to say about McDavid and Draisaitl to sell you on the benefits of playing them tonight. They are 2 of the best players in the game and have combined for 15 points over their last 5 games. They are expensive, but there’s enough value between the Rangers and Devils stack to fit them in. Hyman also makes a nice addition to this stack. Although he hasn’t scored a goal in his last 5 games, he has an ixG of 4.51. He’s due and part of a dynamic line.

Other Stacks: SJ 1, Ott 1, Vegas 1, Det 1, NJ 1, Pitt 1 and 2, Sea 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Brett Kulak – $2.7k on DK
  • John Marino – $2.9k on Dk
  • Martin Fehervary – $2.6k on DK
  • Zach Whitecloud – $2.9k on DK

Summary

This has the makings of an extremely fun NHL DFS slate. We have some top lines in great spots. Expect a high-scoring slate tonight.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

We’re back for another Friday of WinDaily NHL content! Although we have a smaller slate tonight, all three games are packed with action! For tonight’s 12/2 NHL slate, we have a small-sized three-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

12/2 NHL Stack Report

1. Winnipeg Jets 1 (Perfetti-Scheifele-Wheeler)

— The Jets have the best odds and the highest implied total of this small three game slate with -245 and 4.1 xG respectively. This is because this matchup pits one of the best all-around teams in the league against one of the worst all around teams in the league this season. Not only that but going into this matchup the Jets are coming into this game on a three-game winning streak, while the Blue Jackets are coming into tonight’s game on a two game losing streak. The Jets have relied heavily on their top two lines for the majority of their scoring throughout the season and I am slightly leaning towards the Jets’ top line as they have been a little more consistent as of late. In their last game alone, Winnipeg’s top line put up four goals and six assists amongst themselves! On top of that, the goalie they’re going up against tonight, Joonas Korpisalo, holds a 3-4-1 record, a 3.76 goals against average and a save percentage below .900. Simply abysmal but not surprising given the season the Jackets have had to this point. One final note on this game is that the game will be taking place in Winnipeg and the Jets currently hold a home ice record of 8-2-0, whereas the Blue Jackets are a measly 1-4-1 on the road, talk about a home ice advantage!

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Josh Morrissey

2. New York Rangers 1 (Kreider-Zibanejad-Vesey)

— Although not as lopsided as the Jets and Blue Jackets game, the Rangers vs Sens game also has a clear favourite with a high implied total at 3.8 xG. These two teams actually just played each other two days ago in Ottawa and the Rangers were able to snap a three game losing streak and walk away with a 3-1 win with the Rangers top line contributing in two of the three goals scored. Tonight, these two teams will meet up again at MSG with all the momentum on the Rangers side of the ice. Although these two teams have similar offensive stats this season, their defensive stats show a stark difference. The Rangers are near the top of the league in goals allowed and shots allowed with 2.79 and 29.2 respectively, whereas the Sens give up 3.36 goals per game and nearly 34 shots against respectively. These are stats that you can’t give up against any team, let alone the Rangers. The Rangers will rely heavily on their top line tonight and I think they will walk away with the win here, comfortably.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Adam Fox (value option Ryan Lindgren)

Honorable Mention(s): New York Islanders 2 (Lee-Nelson-Beauvilier), Ottawa Senators 1 (B. Tkachuk-Stüzle-Giroux)

12/2 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Igor Shesterkin
  2. Ilya Sorokin
    Honorable Mention(s): David Rittich

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Joonas Korpisalo
Honorable Mention(s): Kevin Lankinen

12/2 NHL Wild Card Targets

Morgan Barron
– The late 2017 draft pick has successfully secured a spot on the Jets roster and thus far he has not disappointed. He’s put up five points over his last six games (1 goal, 4 assists) and is steadily seeing more ice time with each passing game. In his last game, he saw 16 minutes of ice time and was on the second line alongside Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois. It’s been amazing to see his steady rise and I don’t think he’s done yet, Barron still has a lot to prove if he wants to keep his spot in the top six down the line.
Honorable Mention(s): Zach Parise, Ryan Pulock, Ryan Lindgren

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Mika Zibanejad

Winger Blake Wheeler

Defenseman – Ryan Lindgren

Goalie Igor Sharangovich

Welcome to Thursday’s edition of Between the Pipes.   We have a fairly large 11-game slate of NHL DFS to navigate through tonight.  22 teams mean 22 different goalies and that means a lot of options.  My goal here will be to get you the goalie with the most upside and best chance at not killing your lineups.

Let’s dig in and see if we can find goalies that will take us to the top of the leaderboards!

NHL DFS Goalies – Cash

Alexandar Georgiev ($7.9K DK/$9k FD) vs. Buffalo Sabres

Fresh off an OT victory that went to a shootout, the Buffalo Sabres get to go head-to-head with the juggernaut that we like to call the Colorado Avalanche.  Playing with tired legs against the Avalanche is not ideal and it’s going to present some challenges for them.  The biggest challenge for them though will be trying to get pucks past Alexandar Georgiev.

Georgiev is coming into this playing extremely well.  During the month of November,  Georgiev sported a 2.24 GAA and a .932 save percentage over 8 starts.  He also had a 7.21 Goals Saved Above Average (GSAA), one of the highest marks of any goalie playing tonight.  The Sabres are a tough team, but with them playing more than a full game last night and the Avalanche coming in fresh, I love this spot for Georgiev.  He’s playable in both Cash and GPP’s tonight.

Karel Vejmelka ($7k DK/$8.4k FD) vs. Los Angeles Kings

If Karel Vejmelka played on any other team besides the Coyotes, he’d probably be more of a household name.  He had himself an absolutely outstanding month of November.  In 9 starts, Vejmelka averaged over 33 saves per game and had a 2.15 GAA.  His 9.24 GSAA is by far the highest number of any goalie expected to play tonight.

With a matchup against the Kings tonight, it’s set up for Vejmelka to get a decent amount of volume.  The Kings have been taking around 33 shots on goal per game and if we compare that to the 37 that the Coyotes are giving up, we have a team that likes to shoot and a team that likes to give up shots.  Vejmelka is far from safe so I’m going to reserve him strictly for GPP’s tonight.

Vitek Vanecek ($8.4k DK/$8.6k FD) vs. Nashville Predators

Can anyone stop the New Jersey Devils?  I can tell you one thing, it’s not going to be the Nashville Predators, a team scoring just 2.4 goals per game over the last 2 weeks.  In a great matchup vs. the Ducks the other night, they scored just 2 goals, and that was with extra time in OT.  Tonight they’ll have a much tougher task against the top team in the NHL.

In net for the Devils tonight should be Vitek Vanecek, one of the top goalies in the NHL this season.  Vanecek played great in November, stopping 93% of the shots that came his way and giving up just 2.13 goals per game.  The thing with the Devils though is that they don’t give up much in the way of shots.  Over the last 2 weeks, teams have just 30 shots on goal vs. them.  Ideally for GPP’s, we’d see a bit more so this is going to be strictly a Cash play for me tonight.  Especially at his current price on DK.

Andrei Vasilevskiy ($7.8k DK/$ 7.5k FD) vs. Philadelphia Flyers

It’s nice to see that Philly can’t have it all.  While the Eagles, Sixers, and Phillies have been the toast of the town in 2022, the Flyers have not.  They are currently in a rough stretch of it, going 1-4-2 in their last 7 and scoring just 2.14 goals per game over that stretch.  That has me somewhat on Vasilevskiy tonight.

While he’s been playing just a little better than average over the last month, he is still one of the best goalies over the last few years and with a matchup tonight, he should return to his glory days.  Even though this game will be played in Philly tonight, the Lightning are heavy favorites at -215.  Vasilevskiy should get the W tonight and should pay off his sub $8k DK salary tonight.

Summary

These are the 4 goalies I’ll be using tonight.  For Cash, my leading guy will be Vanecek, followed by Georgiev and Vas.  For GPP’s, I’ll be riding Vejmelka with a bottle of Tums right next to me!

Good luck and hope to see you in the green.

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   We have a nice sized 4-game slate tonight.  Even though it’s a pretty small slate, we still have several sports that we can go for offense.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Igor Shesterkin ($7.8K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. Ottawa Senators – Igor Shesterkin is coming off arguably his 2 worst efforts of the season.  He gave up 4 goals to Edmonton and another 4 to the powerhouse of a team we call the New Jersey Devils.  Tonight’s matchup against the Senators should be a solid bounce-back spot for him.

The Senators are coming into this one having scored just 15 goals over their last 6 games.  2.5 goals per game isn’t going to cut it and when playing against a normally solid goalie in Shesterkin, they should score even less than that tonight.  Shesterkin was very vocal about his performance against the Devils and should be extra motivated to have a solid game tonight.  His price is down below $8k on DK tonight and that has me on him even more tonight.

Ilya Samsonov ($6.5k DK/$6.5k FD) vs. San Jose Sharks – Ilya Samsonov is expected to make his return tonight after a more than 3-week absence due to injury.  Prior to going on the shelf, Samsonov was playing extremely well.  He had just a 2.23 GAA and a .921 save percentage.

Although the Sharks are a solid offense, they did play last night and should have some tired legs.  The Maples Leafs’ defense has been much better of late with just 11 high-danger chances against over the last 2 weeks.  At the price point of Samsonov tonight, I will be rocking him in GPP’s.  He’s risky but has huge upside at the current price.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi) + Nurse vs. Chicago

One of the top lines in the game of hockey vs. one of the worst teams in all of hockey?  Sign.  Me.  Up.  Chicago has been a disaster this season and over the last 2 weeks, they have gone 0-5-1 while giving up more than 5 goals per game.  They are someone we should always take full advantage of.  Tonight we’ll be doing that with Edmonton’s top line.

It’s going to be extremely tough to fit both McDavid and Draisaitl together, but I’m going to try my hardest to do so.  The two of them have combined for 12 points over their last 5 games.  Draisaitl has been the goal scorer while McDavid has been the assist machine.  My lean right now is to go with McDavid because he’s just so good.  This is a multiple-goal type of matchup for him.  To save some loot, I’m going to pair both or one of them with Puljujarvi.  Pulj as I like to call him is the type of player that has never lived up to their full potential and may never do so.  That said, he has some upside at his $3.6k price on DK tonight.  Lock and load this line tonight.

Detroit 1 (Larkin, Kubalik, Raymond) + Seider vs. Buffalo

While not as talented as the duo of McDavid and Draisaitl, the tandem of Dylan Larkin and Dominik Kubalik are trying their hardest to get into the convo.  The two of them have been playing some splendid hockey and I’ll be using them tonight in a great matchup.  The Sabres, while scoring a bunch of goals, are giving up a bunch of goals recently.  Over their last 6 games, teams have scored 3.67 goals per game against them.  Most importantly, they’re also giving up more than 14 high-danger scoring chances per game.  That’s absolutely something we’ll want to attack.

If we look at what Larkin and Kubalik have done of late, they’ve combined for 46 scoring changes over their last 5 games.  This is a great spot for them and if we want to add a cheap player to this stack, Lucas Raymond is absolutely in play.  At $3.9k on DK, we’re getting a player that has multiple games over his last 4 with multi-point games.  He’s as solid of a value as there is.

Chicago 2 (Domi, Kurashev, Raddysh) + Murphy vs. Edmonton

Do I think there are betting lines to play than this second unit for Chicago?  Absolutely.  However, I’ve given 2 pricy lines so I need to provide a line so that we can afford guys like McDavid, Larkin, Draisaitl, and Kubalik.  This second line for Chicago will do.  Edmonton isn’t some shutdown defensive type of team that can’t be had.  They’re still giving up more than 3 goals per game. While this line is super risky and could net us close to nothing, they also come in at just $11.1 combined.  Both Kurashev and Raddysh are my favorites here as they’ll play on the top power-play unit with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.  They definitely are risky but have some upside at limited cost.

Other Stacks: Rangers 1 and 2, Toronto 1 and 2, Edmonton 2, Buffalo 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Ryan Lindgren – $2.8k on DK
  • Filip Hronek – $4.7k on Dk
  • Matt Benning – $2.6k on DK
  • Evan Bouchard – $3.6k on DK

Summary

We have some clear spots for offense tonight with Edmonton and Detroit.  I’ll be extremely heavy with both teams. You should be too.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!
