This article focuses on 8/29 NHL DFS Rankings for DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook and Fanduel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. All rankings are site specific.

The Breakdown

Tonight, we have a two game slate where two teams both bounced back from their dreadful game one to win game 2, as the Canucks rebounded well against Vegas in a 5-2 win, and Philadelphia beat the Islanders 4-3 in overtime. Vegas will be the high owned team tonight, but Vancouver is a sneaky stack especially in tournament play, and the Flyers should be the favorites against the Islanders tonight who showed poise coming back from a 3-0 deficit in game 2 to force overtime. Take a look below to see our 8/29 NHL DFS Rankings.

Welcome to Win Daily’s fifth edition of the NHL Between the Benches! In this article, the 8/23 NHL Between the Benches, we will look at the top NHL stacks on the slate, rank the best goalie spots to target and provide a core four that you can use to start building your lines! There are only two games for tonight’s main slate of the second round of the play-offs, check out the top plays below.

8/23 NHL Stack Report

  1. Tampa Bay Lighting Two
    Killorn – Cirelli – Johnson (FanDuel: $13,800 | DraftKings: $10,500)
The main draw to this line is Anthony Cirelli who has posted three points in his last three games with two points coming in the last game against the Blue Jackets. Not to mention his linemate Killorn will slot into the top power play unit with Stamkos sitting this one out. This line offers a nice contrarian play against Tampa’s top line chalk who will be more than occupied dealing with Boston’s top line. Not to mention the entire line is extremely cheap on Draft Kings.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Ryan McDonagh (FD: $4,400 | DK: $3,200)
  2. Vegas Golden Knights One
    Pacioretty – Karlsson – Stone (FanDuel: $20,500 | DraftKings: $18,000)
    – This line has simply been spectacular throughout these playoffs and despite the odds rough spot they have proven to be simply too much for teams to handle. Vegas will have their toughest challenge yet in these playoffs against the Canucks but the smart money is on the Golden Knights maintaining their momentum into this series against the Canucks. This line should average around 20 minutes of ice-time and are guaranteed power play minutes alongside Shea Theodore.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Shea Theodore (FD: $6,200 | DK: $6,000)
Honorable Mention(s): Vancouver Canucks One – Hughes

8/23 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best

  1. Robin Lehner (FD: $8,300 | DK: $8,000)
  2. Andrei Vasilevskiy (FD: $8,600 | DK: $7,800)

Worst

  1. N/A (FD: $-,—|DK: $-,—)

8/23 NHL Wild Card of the Day

Tyler Toffoli (FD: $4,500 | DK: $4,900)
Keep an eye on Toffoli, although he is currently listed as DTD. There is a chance he could see the ice for Game One against the Golden Knights and although it would depend heavily on where he slots in. He is currently listed as a huge bargain if he is given a role on the top two lines. Coming off an injury he is definitely a GPP play but there is a lot of upside to this play. He also works as a one-off punt if he does play.
Honorable Mention(s): Alex Tuch

Core Four:

C William Karlsson

W Brock Boeser

W Mark Stone

D Chris Tanev

8/23 NHL Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Stone-Pacioretty-Boeser – Putting Up Points  Boeser has been piling on the points in both the play-in and play-off rounds, however, he has truly found his groove against the Blues with four assists in just two games! The other two are listed from tonight’s top stack and although Patches is coming back from an injury, his linemate Stone has been extremely productive with seven points in six playoff games, both players feature on Vegas’ top power-play together and will figure to crack the 20-minute mark.

Honorable Mention: Brock Boeser to break the expected fantasy point total.

This article focuses on 8/20 NHL DFS Rankings for DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook and Fanduel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. All rankings are site specific.

The Breakdown

Two elimination games are on the cards tonight as we see the New York Islanders up 3-1 on the Washington Capitals, and the Dallas Stars up 3-2 on the Calgary Flames. Alexander Ovechkin finally showed up in playoff form last game, as he scored two goals with the Capitals down 2-0. Calgary lost a tight one 2-1, and this series has been quite eventful with low scoring, and then high scoring games. I expect that trend to continue tonight, and we see a decently high scoring game there and see below for my 8/20 NHL DFS Rankings.

  1. Brock Nelson $5,900
  2. Tyler Seguin $7,300

  5. Sean Monahan $6,800

Welcome to Win Daily’s fourth edition of the NHL Between the Benches! In this article, the 8/16 NHL Between the Benches, we will look at the top NHL stacks on the slate, rank the best and the worst goalie spots to target and provide a core four that you can use to start building your lines! There are three games for tonight’s main slate of the first round of the play-offs, check out the top plays below.

8/16 NHL Stack Report

  1. Philadelphia Flyers Two
    Konecny – Hayes – Laughton (FanDuel: $15,600 | DraftKings: $15,400)
The Flyers got battered around last game by the Canadiens, and although the five-game onslaught wasn’t pretty Philadelphia is still coming in tonight at -140. They are far and away the better team and will look to show their resiliency against Montreal tonight. If Konecny doesn’t play tonight, pivot to Philadelphia’s top line as they will be relied on for heavy minutes to make up for their missing superstar. They will probably see some lower usage after last game but they have shown moments of brilliance during the round-robin series, its just a matter of time before they unleash their potential against the Canadiens.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Ivan Provorov (FD: $4,900 | DK: $5,300)
  2. Vegas Golden Knights One
    Pacioretty – Karlsson – Stone (FanDuel: $20,700 | DraftKings: $20,700)
    – With another win last night, the Golden Knights are truly putting pressure on the Blackhawks as they will be going for the series sweep tonight. The Golden Knights’ performance last night was rather underwhelming but with Patches back in the fold, the Knights will prove to be too much for the Blackhawks to handle and I can see this top-line being very productive tonight. If Stastny does end up playing tonight, Vegas’ second line works as a nice contrarian play.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Shea Theodore (FD: $5,900 | DK: $6,700)
Honorable Mention(s): Vancouver Canucks One – Hughes

8/16 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best

  1. Robin Lehner (FD: $8,600 | DK: $8,300)
  2. Jacob Markstrom (FD: $8,400 | DK: $7,600)
    Honorable Mention(s): Carter Hart

Worst

  1. Corey Crawford (FD: $7,300|DK: $7,200)
  2. Carey Price (FD: $7,800 | DK: $7,500)

8/16 NHL Wild Card of the Day

Chris Tanev (FD: $3,900 | DK: $3,600)
Tanev has been on a tear over the past four games, posting six points and cracking the 20-minute mark in each. He’ll slot in on Vancouver’s first defensive pairing alongside Alexander Edler and despite not seeing much power-play time, he becomes a huge DFS factor with his blocked shot totals (especially on DraftKings where he’s hit the bonus in three of his last four games)
Honorable Mention(s): Nick Suzuki

Core Four:

C Kevin Hayes

W Brock Boeser

W Mark Stone

D Quinn Hughes

Welcome to Win Daily’s fourth edition of the NHL Between the Benches! In this article, the 8/15 NHL Between the Benches, we will look at the top NHL stacks on the slate, rank the best and the worst goalie spots to target and provide a core four that you can use to start building your lines! There are only three games for tonight’s main slate of the play-in series, check out the top plays below.

8/15 NHL Stack Report

  1. Carolina Hurricanes Two
    Svechnikov – Trocheck – Necas (FanDuel: $15,500 | DraftKings: $–,—)
After having a relatively silent first game coming out of the play-in round, Carolina’s second line participated in every goal in their last matchup against the Bruins en route to a 3-2 win to tie the series and as it looks right now Hamilton has returned to form for a bargain price. With Pasta out of today’s game, Boston will have a harder time shutting down this powerful line. Not to mention that Svechnikov is proving how vital he is to Carolina’s offence with four goals and three assists in just five playoff games. FD Only!!!
Ideal Defensive Partner: Dougie Hamilton (FD: $5,800 | DK: $-,—)
  2. Vegas Golden Knights Two
    Marchessault – Statsny – Smith (FanDuel: $16,800 | DraftKings: $16,000)
    – This line has retained some incredible consistency throughout the postseason and considering Patches may not play tonight it will be important for this line to take it to the Chicago Blackhawks yet again. Furthermore, they have remained affordable despite their success and will be facing off against a cold goalie in Crawford. On top of that, all three will see power-play time with Marchessault and Statsny on the top PP unit and Smith on the second PP unit.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Alec Martinez (FD: $4,100 | DK: $4,600)
Honorable Mention(s): Tampa Bay Lightning Two – McDonagh, Colorado Avalanche One – Graves (Use COL1 for DK)

8/15 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best

  1. Pavel Francouz (FD: $7,000 | DK: $7,900)
  2. Robin Lehner(FD: $8,600 | DK: $8,400)
Honorable Mention(s): Andrei Vasilevskiy, Petr Mrazek

Worst

  1. Corey Crawford (FD: $7,300|DK: $7,300)
  2. Darcy Kuemper (FD: $7,400 | DK: $7,100)

8/15 NHL Wild Card of the Day

Alex Tuch (FD: $4,000 | DK: $3,900)
Despite not getting started in this round, tonight’s game against the Blackhawks provides a perfect opportunity for Tuch to regain the strong form he had coming into the play-in round, of course, it is a risk given his cold start to the postseason but in a GPP format he works well in as an offline stack with Reilly Smith and Alec Martinez.

Core Four:

C Paul Statsny

W Reilly Smith

W Andrei Svechnikov

D Dougie Hamilton

8/15 NHL Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Svechnikov-Marchessault-MacKinnon – Putting Up Points  Svech will see a huge bump in minutes, especially if the game against the Bruins remains close and he has recorded points in 4 of his last 5 games. MacKinnon is a beast and although he may not always reach his expected FanDuel value he is consistently been reliable for a point or two with points in every playoff game to this point. Marchessault himself has put up six points in his last three games and is one of the hottest players in hockey right now, coming up against a cold goalie in Crawford.

Honorable Mention: Jonathan Marchessault to break the expected fantasy point total.

Welcome to WinDaily’s third edition of the NHL Between the Benches! In this article, the 8/9 NHL Between the Benches, we will look at the top NHL stacks on the slate, rank the best and the worst goalie spots to target and provide a core four that you can use to start building your lines! There are only three games for tonight’s main slate of the play-in series, check out the top plays below.

8/9 NHL Stack Report

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs One
    Hyman – Matthews – Marner (FanDuel: $21,300 | DraftKings: $19,600)
The Leafs ended up going back to the top line that provided them with so much offensive success over the past season. The last game alone proved it when they came back with three goals in under for minutes to take this play-in series to a fifth and final game. Coming into this game, it’s hard to deny the Leafs “carryover momentum” and sheer offensive firepower. At this point, it’s hard to tell who the Jackets will start in goal but it looks like both of them have had their confidence absolutely shattered by the Leafs offensive core. This line will be a little chalky so it may make sense to go with the second line (Robertson, Tavares, Nylander) in a GPP format for the lower ownership. If this game gets close, expect Tavares to see top-line play alongside Matthews and Marner. If Werenski is out for Game 5, fit this line in.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Morgan Rielly (FD: $5,400 | DK: $5,100)
  2. St. Louis Blues Two
    Sanford – O’Reilly – Perron (FanDuel: $17,700 | DraftKings: $14,800)
    – Ryan O’Reilly has been an absolute stud against the Dallas Stars this season and although a lot of time has passed since the regular season, there aren’t too many other stats to gauge from. He’s already recorded points in both round-robin games and I wouldn’t be surprised if he found his way past Khudobin with his teammates collecting the supporting points in the process. Not to mention this line eats a gross amount of minutes, ROR has averaged 22 minutes per game during the round-robin games. Look to this game for scoring as both teams will be resting their starters for the playoffs. This game would make an ideal GAME STACK!! (with DAL1 Seguin, Hintz, Benn)
Ideal Defensive Partner: Alex Pietrangelo (FD: $5,600 | DK: $6,200)
Honorable Mention(s): Washington Capitals TwoKempny, Dallas Stars One – Heiskanen

8/9 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best

  1. Jake Allen (FD: $7,700 | DK: $7,800)
  2. Frederik Andersen (FD: $8,600 | DK: $8,200)
Honorable Mention(s): Tuukka Rask, Joonas Korpisalo

Worst

  1. Anton Khudobin (FD: $7,600|DK: $7,400)
  2. Braeden Holtby (FD: $8,400 | DK: $7,600)

8/9 NHL Wild Card of the Day

John Tavares (FD: $7,300 | DK: $6,400)
Yes, I know he’s not really a “wild card” in the conventional sense, he’s been a bonafide NHL star for many many years now but I think he is an interesting option in a power-play stack alongside Matthews and/or Marner its a little unconventional but depending on how the game goes they could find themselves seeing even-strength time together and seeing crazy minutes. Towards the end of the last game, this super line was getting double/triple shifted when seeking to claw their way back into the series with Matthews and Tavares assisting each others goals. Not to mention Matthews saw 28 minutes of ice time with Tavares clocking 27 minutes. So they will definitely see the ice tonight. As mentioned above Tavares works well in a TOR 2 stack, especially in a GPP.
Honorable Mention(s): Stephen Johns, Ilya Mikheyev

Core Four:

C Auston Matthews

W Zach Hyman

W Zach Sanford

D Alex Pietrangelo

8/9 NHL Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Matthews-Tavares-Kucherov – Putting Up Points  As mentioned earlier I’d be foolish not to recommend the Leafs in this spot the carryover momentum is just too strong. Taking their top two pieces from their overloaded first power-play unit and one of the league’s top scorers in Ovechkin. You could easily swap Tavares for Pastrnak and have two or even three of the leagues top scorers (with Ovechkin in for Kucherov) in the same line but Boston’s top line and Ovechkin have been a bit too cold for my liking and I don’t know if they’re going full throttle during the round-robin.

Honorable Mention: Auston Matthews to break the expected fantasy point total.

Welcome to WinDaily’s first edition of the NHL Between the Benches! In this article, the 8/8 NHL Between the Benches, we will look at the top NHL stacks on the slate, rank the best and the worst goalie spots to target and provide a core four that you can use to start building your lines! There are only two games for tonight’s main slate of the round robin series, check out the top plays below.

8/8 NHL Stack Report

  1. Philadelphia Flyers Two
    Konecny – Hayes – Laughton (FanDuel: $16,500 | DraftKings: $13,500)
    – This line has been responsible for four goals in the past two games, they will be up against stiff competition in Vasilevskiy but there aren’t many great goalies to target in tonight’s slate. Furthermore, Konecny led the Flyers in points and goals this season so its no surprise that he’s been able to continue his production through the round-robin playoff games.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Ivan Provorov (FD: $4,700 | DK: $5,000)
  2. Colorado Avalanche One
    Namestikov – MacKinnon – Rantanen (FanDuel: $20,700 | DraftKings: $16,500)
    – Very hard to ignore Nathan MacKinnon and its hard to squeeze him in tonight but its made a little easier with cheaper pieces like Namestikov and Graves alongside him. This line is also going up against who I think is the most questionable goalie of the stacked goaltending lineup today, Fleury. MacKinnon will be necessary for cash games and has a chance of breaking tomorrow’s two-game slate.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Ryan Graves (FD: $4,000 | DK: $4,500)
Honorable Mention(s): Tampa Bay Lightning Two – McDonagh, Vegas Golden Knights One – Theodore

8/8 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best

  1. Carter Hart (FD: $7,600 | DK: $7,300)
  2. Philipp Grubauer (FD: $8,400 | DK: $7,900)

Worst

  1. N/A (FD: $-,— | DK: $-,—)

8/8 NHL Wild Card of the Day

Ryan Graves (FD: $4,000 | DK: $4,500)
– Graves has always been my reliable go-to defenseman when Colorado is on the slate and I can’t remember a time where he let me down. Graves is always in the play, has amazing Corsi
numbers and gets a lot of peripheral and primary stats so even if he doesn’t get on the score sheet, his shots and blocked shots should hold himself up as an excellent pick
Honorable Mention(s): Alex Tuch

Core Four:

C Nathan MacKinnon

W Travis Konecny

W Mark Stone

D Ryan Graves

8/8 NHL Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Kucherov-MacKinnon-Stone – Putting Up Points  Easy picking NMac and Stone, its difficult because it seems like there will be four stud goalies starting tomorrow but at least one or two of them will have to give. I expect Kucherov to be Hart’s most dangerous challenge on the Lightning for obvious reasons. The former MVP will need to work hard to get a puck past the young stud however.

Honorable Mention: Nathan MacKinnon to break the expected fantasy point total.

Welcome to WinDaily’s first edition of the NHL Between the Benches! In this article, the 8/1 NHL Between the Benches, we will look at the top NHL stacks on the slate, rank the best and the worst goalie spots to target and provide a core four that you can use to start building your lines! There are six games for tonight’s first main slate of the play-in series, check out the top plays below.

8/1 NHL Stack Report

  1. Edmonton Oilers Two
    Yamamoto – Draisaitl – Ennis (FanDuel: $17,200 | DraftKings: $17,900)
    – There’s just no avoiding the Oilers as the top play of this slate, Edmonton’s second line is very strong all-around and given how well they should do their price is extremely low (excluding Draisaitl). Both Draisaitl and McDavid are threats to break the slate so having exposure to both of them is not a bad idea, especially for cash games.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Darnell Nurse (FD: $4,200 | DK: $4,800)
  2. Pittsburgh Penguins Two
    Rust – Malkin – Zucker (FanDuel: $20,300 | DraftKings: $20,100)
    – Montreal was very unconvincing in their exhibition matchup against the Leafs. This should’ve been an ideal prep game for the Canadiens as the Leafs and Penguins are very similar in terms of playstyle but Montreal just looked outclassed on the ice. I do expect them to score but Pittsburgh is looking fantastic heading into this one. Given Rust’s price (especially on FanDuel), my top target will be Pittsburgh’s second line. Pulls away from the Crosby’s and Guentzel’s while targeting consistent point-getters in Rust, Malkin and Zucker (who all did well in their exhibition game against the Flyers). Rust can also put up a crazy amount of solo points so he works as a one-off. Pittsburgh has the capability to absolutely break a slate and I can see them doing it again here tonight.
Ideal Defensive Partner: Justin Schultz (FD: $4,300 | DK: $3,800)
Honorable Mention(s): New York Rangers Two Fox, Winnipeg Jets One Pionk, Calgary Flames Two Gustafsson

8/1 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best

  1. Igor Shesterkin (FD: $7,900 | DK: $7,400)
  2. Connor Hellebuyck (FD: $8,300 | DK: $7,500)

Worst

  1. Sergei Bobrovsky (FD: $7,600 | DK: $7,700)
  2. Corey Crawford (FD: $7,200 | DK: $7,200)
  3. Dave Rittich (FD: $7,600 | DK: $8,100)

8/1 NHL Wild Card of the Day

Morgan Geekie (FD: $4,000 | DK: $2,800
– Geekie hasn’t spent much time in the pros but he surely made a big impact with his time. In just two games towards the end of the season, Geekie recorded four points! He is definitely a GPP play since if he makes it in it’ll be in a depth role, but he could be that piece that’ll give you separation on large-field GPPs. Keep an eye out on his status as a Canes starter. If he ends up playing alongside Justin Williams, you can also stack the two together!

Honorable Mention(s): Bryan Rust (w/Zucker), Artemi Panarin (w/ Fox)

Core Four:

C Leon Draisaitl

W Bryan Rust

W Kailer Yamamoto

D Adam Fox

8/1 NHL Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Draisaitl-McDavid-Malkin – Putting Up Points  The top two point-getters in the NHL season, followed by the player with the best matchup on the slate. I see no issue meeting the point threshold on this one! The MKF props haven’t been released yet at the time of writing, but they should be released shortly!

Honorable Mention: Leon Draisaitl to break the expected fantasy point total.

New York Rangers (+110) vs Carolina Hurricanes (-120) 12PM EST

This game comes down to goal scoring and defence. I believe that Rangers are better set up in both categories. New York goaltender Igor Shestyorkin played 12 games this season and posted a scintillating 0.932 save percentage. If he doesn’t start, look for King Henrik Lundqvist who looked really good in the exhibition to back stop the Rangers to victory. Take the New York Rangers @ +110

Edmonton Oilers (-140) vs Chicago Blackhawks (+130) 3PM EST

DO NOT WAIT! I will no longer like this line if it reaches -150 or lower. Both Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen looked solid in their half game on Wednesday. Connor McDavid had 2 shots and 2 goals. Chicago looked pretty good in their warm up Thursday, however St. Louis didn’t look all that great against the Blackhawks that afternoon. Take the Edmonton Oilers @ -140 while the getting is good.

New York Islanders (-105) vs Florida Panthers (-105) 4PM EST

My faith in the Florida Panthers is low until they show some life. The Islanders might not score five goals like the Lightning did on Wednesday, but the Panthers also were unable to score. NYI are a much better defensive team, and were able to beat the Ranger 2-1. Take the New York Islanders @ -105

Winnipeg Jets (+100) vs Calgary Flames (-110) 10:30PM EST

The Winnipeg Jets looked scary good agains the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night. Calgary and Vancouver both looked like they played similar games, where they carried the play for a majority of the game but were unable to beat quality goaltending. Connor Hellebuyck is a quality goaltender up for the Vesina Trophy. Calgary took too many penalties against Edmonton and their defence and goaltending didn’t look quite play off ready. This will be a tight series but I really liked how the Jets looked in their tune up. Take the Winnipeg Jets @ +100 to win game 1.

Sunday August 2nd

Arizona Coyotes (+105) vs Nashville Predators (-115) 2PM EST

Nashville looked dominant agains the Dallas Stars in their tune up. Both goalies didn’t allow a goal and Victor Arvidsson was able to get two, both assisted by Filip Forsberg. Arizona gave up a short handed goal as well as a power play goal against the Golden Knights on Thursday. Take the sharper looking Nashville Predators @ -115

St.Louis Blues (-105) vs Colorado Avalance (-105) 6:30PM EST

The St. Louis Blues had quite the rough outing agains the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. Jordan Binnington was stellar in the minutes he played but the rest of the Blues showed some rust. Colorado looked really good beating Minnesota 3-2. Nathan McKinnon didn’t look like he missed a beat, scoring a goal and flying into the offensive zone. I have faith St.Louis will find their game, but it won’t be in this contest. Take the Colorado Avalance @ -105.

Columbus Blue Jackets (+132) vs Toronto Maple Leafs (-145) 8PM EST

Both of these teams had dominant preformances in their exhibition games. I think Columbus is being undervalued here and with the return of goaltender Joonas Korpisalo and forward Cam Atkinson, this could be the upset of the first round. Even if it isn’t, I like the Leafs to receive a wake up call here. This line seems to overvalue the Leafs on this night. Take the Columbus Blue Jackets @ +132

Minnesota Wild (+105) vs Vancouver Canucks (-115) 10:30PM EST

Minnesota looked like the stronger team in their exhibition game being edged out late by the Colorado Avalanche 3-2. Minnesota is better on the back end and can find offence from anywhere. Vancouver looked good as well, however had some defensive lapses against Winnipeg. I don’t believe that this is out of Vancouver’s system yet as they have a young core. Take the Minnesota Wild to win game 1 @ +105

NHL Best Bets, Play in Round and Outrights

Many of these picks have been previously discussed on the live stream that can be watched on YouTube here. I highly recommend watching the show in its entirety, but if you just need your NHL fix, scroll ahead to the 45 minute mark to see my beautiful bald head covered by a glorious WinDaily hat (found here). Here are some of our favorite NHL Best Bets for the Play in Round and Outrights.

New York Rangers (+110) Carolina Hurricanes (-136)

The New York Rangers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in all four games during the regular season. While there has been an almost five month pause between the regular season and the start of the play in series, I do not think this is a scenario that can be ignored. To add to that, the top two lines for the Rangers really found their game as the season progressed. With NYR’s Artemi Panarin nominated for the Heart Trophy, given out to the leagues MVP during the regular season, it is added value to take the underdog here. Carolina were looking to get two quality defenders back, however their number one defenseman, Dougie Hamilton sustained an injury in training camp and is unlikely to play for this play in series. It may be surprising to some that I would go against a team that beat a high powered Maple Leafs team with their minor leagues zamboni driver, but these are crazy times. Take the New York Rangers @ +110

Chicago Blackhawks (+135) vs Edmonton Oilers (-167)

I said on the live stream that I liked this pick even though the juice was higher than I like to bet. This is still the case, however there have been some updates since that live stream. Corey Crawford is back in net for the Blackhawks after reportedly recovering from Covid 19. They then comes in and posts a shut out against the defending Stanley Cup Champions. This would normally scare me off this pick and tell you that I am second guessing this pick. Here are two reasons I am not. Edmonton boasts the top power play in the league. The second reason, Edmonton had the best player in the league who had two shots on net… and two goals. I also failed to mention that aside from Connor McDavid who had a 100% shooting percentage, they also have the leagues top goal scorer and heart trophy candidate in Leon Draisaitl. Put your mind at ease and swallow the juice. Take the Edmonton Oilers @ -167.

Florida Panthers (+100) vs New York Islanders (-122)

A New Jersey Devils fan suggesting to take both teams from New York? I must be coming down with something. Don’t get me started on why I think the Penguins will also win their series and how surprisingly good the Philadelphia Flyers looked. I had hoped, for sanity sake, that Sergei Bobrovski would turn back the clock and show what he displayed last year when he stood on his head and was a major reason that Columbus swept the heavily favoured Tampa Bay Lightning. Alas, this is not the case. Those same Tampa Bay Lightning got five goals past goalie Bob, en route to a 5-0 victory, in Wednesday’s exhibition game. The New York Islanders, who struggled before the Covid break, played a great defensive game and came away with a 2-1 victory over the high scoring New York Rangers. This result doesn’t bode well for the Panthers as they will need to outscore the Islanders to make up for their defensive shortcomings. I don’t believe this will happen. Take the New York Islanders @ -122

You are probably wondering, “why did I open this if he is just going to spit out the same information he did on the live stream?” Well I hopefully am adding more humour in this article to brighten your day! OK FINE. Here are two more series I quite like the looks of.

Arizona Coyotes (+115) vs Nashville Predators (-139)

Looking at the statistics for this series, a lot of the numbers point to the Arizona Coyotes being the most likely to come out of this series the victor. Better goals against, better PP%, a much better PK%. However, I took myself through a self taught course on what they call Corsi statistics. These stats are relatively new to the hockey world but explain a lot of how Nashville is the favourite. The Predators, over the course of the season held the puck 51.7% of the time. As we know, its much harder to score if you don’t have control of the puck. They also had 33 less high danger scoring chances than the Coyotes but managed to score 7 more high danger goals. Juuse Saros took over the crease from long time net minder Pekka Rinne, and stole the show. Nashville also has goal scorers Viktor Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg returning to their lineup. As long as Nashville can stay out of the penalty box often than they did in the regular season (which shouldn’t be difficult at 9 minutes per game) I really like their chances. Take the Nashville Predators @ -139

Minnesota Wild (+100) vs Vancouver Canucks (-122)

How is this for a confident opening? I do not understand this Minnesota Wild team. Their roster on paper looks like a group that were really talented 5 years ago and cast offs from teams that “no longer required their services”. However, I must admit, I really like their chances against the Canucks. Since the trade deadline, they have had a drastic spike in their power play percentage and a lot like Nashville, their high danger scoring chances converted to goals sits at a staggering 15.8% (that’s really good). Another similarity to the Predators is that the Wild made a goaltending switch from Devin Dubnyk to Alex Stalock who vastly improved their Goals Against Average. Vancouver is a high paced group with a lot of young talent. They will have their time of success, but it doesn’t come this year. Take the Minnesota Wild (+100)

Bonus selection!! This line just seams way off to me and I have undervalued them this whole season. Both of these teams looked really good in their exhibition games so it is a bit of a stretch. They have very opposite styles in this team is much more defensive than their opponent. Also, their opponent has a history of starting slow in the regular season, and their goalie tends to take a while to find his dominant game. Take the Columbus Blue Jackets @ +140 to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs

Outrights to Win the Stanley Cup

No changes in thoughts here!

  • Boston Bruins +650 (prefer the Bruins in the +650 range)
  • Tampa Bay Lighting +650
  • Vegas Golden Knights +800 (Prefer Vegas in the +800 range)
  • Colorado Avalanche +800
  • Washington Capitals +1000
  • New York Ranger +4000 (please bring me medicine!!!)
