Gerrit Cole vs. Detroit Tigers

DraftKings – $12,000 FanDuel – $12,200

The Astros’ hurler is the top pitcher on the slate. Cole has a slate high 36.8% K% as well as a 2.94 SIERA on the season. And now he faces the lowly Detroit Tigers’ offense. Detroit has produced just a .150 ISO with a 26.4% K% in 2019. Cole should thrive on this 8/22 MLB DFS slate.

Max Scherzer vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

DraftKings – $11,400  FanDuel – $12,000

The Nationals’ pitcher comes off the injured list in time to catch a great matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. His 2.84 xFIP makes him a great play against anyone but against the Pirates, he is a slam dunk. The Pittsburgh offense has a .241/.309/.398 slash line over the last 30 days. Combine that with his 35.3% K% and you have to get some Scherzer exposure on the 8/22 MLB DFS slate.

Mike Soroka vs. Miami Marlins

DraftKings – $10,000 FanDuel – $9,300

In the second half of the MLB season, Mike Soroka has posted a 2.38 ERA. His remarkable performance since the All-Star break should continue on this 8/22 MLB DFS slate. The Marlins have been equally bad in the second half. The offense has posted a measly .145 ISO and an 80 wRC+ in the second half.

Kenta Maeda vs. Toronto Blue Jays

DraftKings – $8,100 FanDuel – $7,800

The Dodgers’ right-hander is a nice value play on the 8/22 MLB DFS slate. Maeda will face an American League team that loses the DH at home, where he has been lights out. He is allowing a .176/.233/.318 slash line at home this season with a 27.2% K%.

For today’s Monkey Knife Fight pick, we are going to do an over/under play from the Toronto/Los Angeles contest. On this 8/22 MLB DFS slate, let’s go over 5.5 strikeouts for Maeda and under 4.5 for Waguespack.

8/13 DFS Pitching Cash Game Pitchers

Gerrit Cole, HOU at CWS

DK ($12,700)   FD ($12,400)

Cole has amassed at least 40 FanDuel points in 10 of his past 11 starts and comes into the nightcap of a twin-bill at Guaranteed Rate Field with at least 40 FD in seven straight starts. He’s going to cost a pretty penny, but damned if he’s not worth it. Cole averages 12.98 K/9 while holding opposing bats to a .199 average. Even with an increased hard contact (35.2%) rate, you have to put Cole ahead of (almost all) the Tuesday pack for the simple fact he’s facing one of the league’s most free-swinging teams in the White Sox, who are 25th overall with 1,115 whiffs. That’s a robust average of 9.61 strikeouts per game, so even if Cole falls short of his K/9 rate, he stands a good chance to be money well spent.

Clayton Kershaw, LAD at MIA

DK ($11,800)   FD ($12,000)

As much as Cole and his strikeout potential look tempting to use, Kershaw gets the Tuesday night edge here. Kershaw’s K/9 have fallen to “just’ 9.07, but the combination of a 1.94 BB/9 rate and a matchup against the league’s second-lowest scoring offense is a winning pair. Miami is averaging a mere 3.66 runs per game and are tied with Detroit for the Major League worst in OPS+ (78). Add the fact the game is being played the offensive hellhole known as Marlins Park, and Kershaw — who is slightly less expensive than Cole — is going to be (with all apologies to Becky Lynch) The Man when it comes to pitching options tonight.

8/13 DFS Pitching GPP Pitchers

Chris Sale, BOS at CLE

DK ($10,700)   FD ($10,500)

There can be no Sale when it comes to making him a reliable cash game hurler. What a difference a year makes, huh? Sale comes off a 13-K gem over eight scoreless innings against the Angels last time out, but he had a combined 18 FanDuel points in his previous two starts. Come for the strikeouts (13.18 K/9) but his 1.41 HR/9 is more than double his rate from 2018, and it is abundantly factual that hitters have pounded Sale at career-high levels, especially when one looks at the 35.8% hard contact rate, the first time since 2016 and only the second time in his career that Sale’s HCR has gone above 30. The decreased velocity in his heater (93.1 mph) has also thrown up a red flag. There’s a lot to love here, just enough to suggest Sale, who sees the new AL Central leaders for the first time this season.

Max Fried, ATL vs. NYM

DK ($6,700)   FD ($8,400)

Fried’s mound opponent, Zack Wheeler, is on the outside looking in only because he’s more expensive. That’s not to take away from Fried, who has shown strong signs of maturity since the All-Star Break, dropping his ERA from 4.29 to 3.32 along with whacking his OBA from .283 to .244. He’s juiced his K/9 rate to 9.12 after striking out 10 in a win against the Twins in his last start and while his control isn’t Kershaw-like, Fried’s 2.62 BB/9 is a big check on his positive side. While he owns a 12:2 K:BB rate in 11 innings against the Mets this season, he has been hit to the tune of .356 in his two starts, yet this is much different Fried the Mets will be looking at. New York has yet to homer against him, as Fried’s 22.2% fly ball rate is an encouraging number for those considering to run with the young Braves hurler.

8/13 DFS Pitching Punt Play

Zac Gallen, ARI at COL

DK ($7,000)   FD ($7,000)

Gallen has yet to allow more than three earned runs in his first eight starts, and I’m betting he’ll make it nine despite having to make his first appearance at Coors Field. The rookie comes into Tuesday having recorded at least 39 FanDuel points in his last three starts and has gone at least seven innings in two of those outings. Walks (4.57 BB/9) have been his biggest issue, yet Gallen hasn’t been taxed dearly (at least for now) as he’s allowed just three homers in 41.1 innings. Colorado is 22nd in batter strikeouts and makes a nice fit for Gallen, who is averaging 10.67 K/9. There is considerable risk here, but I think there’s high reward for those willing to gamble.

8/13 DFS Stack Plays

New York Yankees: They’re playing Fantasy Baseball when facing the Orioles staff. Start with Gleyber Torres ($4,400/$3,600 DK/FD) and figure out the rest.

Houston Astros: Josh Reddick ($3,400/$2,700) is the hidden gem against Ivan Nova, who is due for regression after four straight solid starts.

Cincinnati Reds: Aristides Aquino ($4,600/$3,900) is the anchor of an underrated stack at Nationals hurler Joe Ross, who is vulnerable to the long ball.

Scott Engel and our resident pro wrestler and DFS expert discuss the Main MLB DFS Slates and provide DFS picks for the Hall of Fame Game. There are a few early games and a six-game night set in MLB to cover on the 8/1 DFS Podcast. The Broncos and Falcons will have us sifting through backups to determine who gets the most playing time.

8/1 DFS Podcast Pitching Picks

Michael Pineda is performing well and gets the reward of a trip to Miami. Zach Wheeler is still a Met and has a good matchup in Chicago. Max Fried could be a nice salary saver tonight so you can roster Gerrit Cole and/or save some salary for hitting.

NFL Hall of Fame Game DFS Picks

Scott and Matt provide a positional review and recommendations for DFS Play in the Hall of Fame Game. Scott may build around Kevin Hogan while Matt points out that a TE play could be important.

The 8/1 MLB DFS slate consists of just six games. Despite being light in games, the slate does have two studs on the bump. However, their matchups are less than ideal. But given the other pitching options available on this 8/1 MLB DFS slate, these are good places to start building those daily fantasy sports cash game lineups.

Sign up NOW for WIN DAILY Premium Gold right here! Projections, weather reports, wagering info, 24/7 expert chats and more!

Gerrit Cole vs. Cleveland Indians

DraftKings – $11,300 FanDuel – $11,700

Admittedly this is not a great matchup for the Houston Astros’ starter. Cleveland is striking out at only a 22.3% clip this season. But on this 8/1 MLB DFS slate, it is tough to ignore just how good Cole has been this season. He has a 2.88 SIERA and a 2.94 ERA to go along with a slate high 37% strikeout rate. If you like to build your Daily Fantasy Sports lineups with a player’s floor in mind, Cole is for you.

Clayton Kershaw vs. San Diego Padres

DraftKings – $10,700 FanDuel – $11,400

The Dodgers’ southpaw has been locked in over the last 30 days. In four starts in that span, Kershaw has allowed a 12.6 K/9 rate as well as a 1.44 ERA and a 2.88 xFIP. And when is allowing contact, the opposing team is hitting a bunch of worm burners, as he has a 50.9% groundball rate over the last month. With the Padres’ offense owning just a .248 batting average and a 25.4% K rate versus lefties in 2019, Kershaw is a safe play for the 8/1 MLB DFS slate.

Jack Flaherty vs. Chicago Cubs

DraftKings – $8,600 FanDuel – $8,500

If you are looking to get off the beaten path a little bit on this 8/1 MLB DFS slate, look no further than the Cardinals’ Jack Flaherty. The St. Louis starter is awfully tough at home this season. Flaherty has a 10.44 K/9 ratio in St. Louis this season. The right-hander also is allowing a very low .197 batting average and a 0.91 WHIP in games at Busch in 2019. His dominance at home should continue on Thursday as the Cubs’ offense is in a funk. In the second half of the season, Chicago owns a low .239 batting average paired with a 27.6% K%.

Max Fried vs. Cincinnati Reds

DraftKings – $5,800 FanDuel – $7,500

If you prefer to punt the pitcher position on the 8/1 MLB DFS slate, the Braves’ Max Fried could be your guy. While it is not a sexy play, Fried should be in a position to provide value on Thursday against a depleted Reds’ lineup that just shipped out two of their better hitters in Puig and Gennett. Fried’s ceiling probably is not very high considering that he has completed six innings of work just once in his last five appearances, but at his price (especially on DraftKings) he doesn’t need a complete game to provide value.

Monkey Knife Fight Pitching Props

After nailing a deGrom/Giolito over 12.5 strikeout prop last night, I will look to stay hot on MKF.

And my first pick for the 8/1 MLB DFS slate may be a surprise as it involves a Baltimore Orioles pitcher. But Asher Wojciechowski has struck out at least six batters in all but one of his appearances this season. His only miss was a ⅔ inning appearance in which he struck out two. So I feel good about the over 4.5 prop bet here.

And as I mentioned above, Kershaw was locked in in July and that should continue here today. So I’ll take the over 6.5 strikeout prop for the Dodgers’ ace. Play MLB Prop Games now and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

This report will provide recommended DFS stack options for today’s 10-game main slate. I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

**All plays are listed in order of preference. Please check back between 5-6 PM EST as some players can receive rest days or get limited at bats especially as we get closer to the postseason. Make sure you are watching the weather as well.

MLB Fantasy Stack: Minnesota Twins

vs. RHP Ivan Nova (CWS): 6.00 Runs

**Moderate Risk

I know the Twins let a lot of us down last night. I also know Nova has put on some off the wall performances that may cause others to rethink whether or not they want to go here tonight. I have no problems going back here, we all know how bad Ivan Nova can be. Nova carries a 5.49 ERA, 5.34 FIP, and 5.03 SIERA. He has allowed batters to slash to a .359 wOBA, .526 SLG, and .340 OBP at home this season. When pitching at home, Nova’s ERA goes from a 5.12 road average to 6.02. He has allowed 33 earned runs and 11 home runs over 49.1 innings pitched at home. The Twins continue to hit well, slashing to a .382 wOBA, .252 ISO, and 139 WRC+. I hate to use such a small sample, but four batters in the Twins lineup have an OPS of 1.000 or greater against Nova this season.

Preferred Stack: Nelson Cruz ($4400 FD|$5600 DK), Jorge Polanco ($3500 FD|$4800 DK), Max Kepler ($3700 FD|$5100 DK), and Miguel Sano ($3700 FD|$5100 DK). Jason Castro ($2700 FD|$4200 DK) and Luis Arraez ($2900 FD|$4200 DK) make excellent value plays once again.

MLB Fantasy Stack: Cleveland Indians

vs. RHP Glenn Sparkman (KCR): 5.70 Runs

**High Risk

Cleveland Indians have slumped off a bit after going on a heater for a few weeks. They look to have returned to form last night, scoring eight earned runs. Sparkman carries a 4.67 ERA, 5.64 FIP, and 5.47 SIERA. He has the worst contact % on the slate at 84.7. He is only inducing a 7.4% swinging strike rate. The only downside to a Cleveland stack today is Sparkman’s home/road splits. Compared to his atrocious road averages, he is absolutely stellar at home. He carries a 1.76 ERA and allows batters to slash a measly .256 wOBA, .328 SLG, and .265 OBP. He has only allowed nine earned runs and four home runs over 40 innings pitched. With these kind of splits at home I can definitely see a hedge with Sparkman as well if you want to take a shot in tournaments. The Indians are slashing to a .337 wOBA, .187 ISO, and 106 WRC+ over the last month.

Preferred Plays: Carlos Santana ($3700 FD|$4300 DK), Francisco Lindor ($4200 FD|$5300 DK), Roberto Perez($2900 FD|$3500 DK), and Jose Ramirez ($4000 FD|$4600 DK). Greg Allen ($2500 FD|$3900 DK) and Tyler Naquin ($2900 FD|$4100 DK) for value.

MLB Fantasy Stack: Oakland Athletics

vs. RHP Adrian Sampson (TEX): 5.30 Runs

**Low Risk

Adrian Sampson has come back down to earth recently, getting tagged for five or more runs in his last two starts. He carries a 5.19 ERA, 5.00 FIP, and 4.63 SIERA on the year. Sampson is allowing 1.76 HR/9 and a 48% hard contact rate. He is allowing 80% contact and struggles mightily to right handed batters. They are slashing to a .388 wOBA, .581 SLG, and .360 OBP. Sampson has allowed 32 earned runs and 13 home runs over 55.1 innings pitched to righties. The Athletics are slashing to a .339 wOBA, .217 ISO, and 115 WRC+ over the last month. Sampson throws a ton of sinker (55% usage) and slider (31% usage). Batters 1-4 in this projected Athletics lineup are all hitting .200 ISO or better against Sampson’s two most frequently used pitches.

Preferred Plays: Mark Canha ($2800 FD|$4300 DK), Ramon Laureano ($3100 FD|$4700 DK), Matt Olson ($3700 FD|$4500 DK), and Marcus Semien($3200 FD|$4400 DK).

Honorable Mention

MLB Fantasy Stack: New York Mets

vs. RHP Trevor Williams (PIT): 4.85 Runs

**Moderate Risk

Preferred Plays: Jeff McNeil ($3600 FD|$4600 DK), Pete Alonso ($4100 FD|$5100 DK), and Michael Conforto ($3500 FD|$4200 DK). Dominic Smith ($2300 FD|$4200 DK) and Robinson Cano ($2700 FD|$3700 DK) for value.

MLB Fantasy Stack: Atlanta Braves

vs. RHP Zach Eflin (PHI): 5.20 Runs

**Moderate Risk

Preferred Plays: Freddie Freeman ($4100 FD|$5200 DK), Josh Donaldson ($3800 FD|$4800 DK), and Ronald Acuna Jr. ($4300 FD|$5300 DK).

MLB Fantasy Stack: Baltimore Orioles

vs. RHP Dillon Peters (LAA): UPDATE

**Low Risk

Preferred Plays: Anthony Santander ($3300 FD|$4400 DK), Renato Nunez ($3400 FD|$4100 DK), Trey Mancini ($3900 FD|$4600 DK), and Dwight Smith Jr. ($2900 FD|$3600 DK).

MLB Fantasy Stack: Los Angeles Angels

vs. RHP Aaron Brooks (BAL): UPDATE

**Low Risk

Preferred Plays: Shohei Ohtani ($3900 FD|$4800 DK), Mike Trout ($5000 FD|$5700 DK), Kole Calhoun ($3500 FD|$4700 DK).

Pitching

  1. Gerrit Cole RHP (HOU): 3.20 Runs
  2. Mike Clevinger RHP (CLE): 3.80 Runs
  3. Anthony DeSclafani RHP (CIN): 4.30 Runs

We have a nice looking MLB DFS slate to attack this Saturday in late July. So without further ado, lets dive right in.

Find out which hitters to use tonight on FanDuel with our Premium Gold Data Driven Projections.

MLB DFS Upper-Tier Arms

Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers at Nationals ($11,400 FD, $11,400 DK): The only negative here is that he is not on the main MLB DFS slate of games. Starting at 4:05 pm Eastern, Kershaw has been cash-game worthy. Kershaw deserved a better result in his last appearance, striking out 10 over six scoreless innings before the bullpen blew the game. Kershaw’s ERA is below 3.00 for the first time in a month, and every start this year has been at least six innings.

Gerrit Cole, Astros at Cardinals ($12,000 FD, $12,000 DK): I am not sure what the MLB DFS gods are trying to tell us with the top two arms the same price. Cole will likely be my cash pitcher on the main slate because of his consistency and strikeout potential. Cole is the second-fastest player in Major League history to reach 200 strikeouts in a season. He accomplished this feat in only 133 1/3 innings. He leads the Majors with 205 strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings (13.5) and is 7-0 with a 2.03 ERA in his last 11 starts.

Win Daily offers several membership options including a free membership and Premium Gold. Both are available for different prices and lengths. Our most popular option is our Gold Monthly recurring subscription. You can also purchase a weekly or yearly subscription.

MLB DFS Middle-Tier Arm

Eduardo Rodriguez, Yankees at Red Sox ($8,100 FD, $8,800 DK): Baseball historians will tell you we are watching the reverse of the famed “Boston Massacre” of 1978. The Yankees came into Boston that season and clobbered the Red Sox in four straight games. Seriously though, even though the Yankees have a comfortable lead in the AL East, fans in the Bronx have to be slightly concerned. In comes a lefty with a MLB DFS history of pitching well against the Yankees. And, add in the fact that the Yankees are faring better against righties this season. Another factor in the E-Rod choice, over the last couple of months, Rodriguez has emerged as Boston’s most consistent pitcher. In his last 11 starts, E-Rod is 8-1 with a 3.03 ERA. At home this season, he is 5-1 with a 3.83 ERA. A GPP-only option for me as my theory is to never use a pitcher against the Yankees in cash games.

If you already have a free registered membership, we suggest upgrading to our Premium Gold monthly membership plan for regular access to MLB Weather Reports.

MLB DFS Bargain-Basement Arms

I have several cheap pitchers in MLB DFS that I like better than any other middle-priced pitcher. Alex Young, Diamondacks at Marlins, $7,300 FD, N/A DK, Martin Perez, Twins at White Sox, $6,900 FD, $8,800 DK and Homer Bailey, $6,800 FD, $6,700 DK are the three arms I like. All three pitchers have a really nice combination of park factors and/or opponents that I like to attack.

7/27 MLB DFS Monkey Knife Fight Picks of the Day

A rather easy and simple pick for me today. Gerrit Cole is on a historic strikeout run. All of MLB is striking out at never seen before levels. Cole has struck out nine of more batters in five consecutive starts with double digits in four out of those five. Take the over 8.5 strikeouts in this spot.

Scott Engel and our resident pro wrestler and DFS expert discuss the Main MLB DFS Slate on the 7/25 MLB DFS Podcast. There are early games, but there is not much to choose from, so Matt says do not be intimidated into playing. But pitching is not easy to come by on the night schedule.

7/25 MLB DFS Podcast Pitching Picks

Jose Berrios and Lucas Gioloto face off in the pitching matchup of the night, and they are really the only two guys on the slate who seem to be true quality choices. But Matt has a good salary saver for you. Plus, Angels and Athletics bats are in play tonight.

It is a decent-sized 11 game slate to choose our DFS MLB pitchers from tonight. There are plenty of top arms and bargain basement options as well.

DFS MLB Upper-Tier Arms

Gerrit Cole, Athletics at Astros $11,700 FD, $12,500 DK: A top DFS MLB option whenever he toes the rubber, and even more so on this 11-gamer. Cole has put himself squarely in the American League Cy Young race, going 6-0 with a 2.11 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in his last 10 starts. He has struck out 94 batters in 64 innings over that span. Cole leads the Majors with 194 strikeouts and 13.47 strikeouts per nine innings. He has the potential to break this slate tonight. He is a cash-game staple tonight and probably for the rest of the season whenever he is on top of the hill.

Mike Clevinger, Indians at Blue Jays $10,200 FD, $12,100 DK: His strikeout rate this season is absurd. He has 58 strikeouts in 35.1 innings pitched! We will see tonight if the kid-gloves are removed from Terry Francona. Last time out, he allowed one run in six frames with 12 Ks. If you are fading Cole on FD, this guy has to be your next choice.

DFS MLB Middle-Tier Arms

Robbie Ray, Orioles at Diamondbacks $9,600 FD, $11,400 DK: Wherever you classify him on this list of DFS MLB pitchers, his strikeout potential means I want a piece of him in my cash-game lineups. Ray has won each of his last three starts. Last time out against the Rangers he allowed four runs on six hits over six innings. In his two starts prior to that he gave up just two runs in 12 1/3 innings.

Sonny Gray, Reds at Brewers, $8,600 FD, $9,700 DK: Brewers at home!?!? No way am I using Gray here! That is what you may be saying to yourself after reading this. Well, how about if I told you the Brewers offense is 25th of the season in productivity against right-handed starters? I understand that the risk is there but to differentiate from the crowd, Gray is an excellent GPP choice.

DFS MLB Bargain Basement Arm

Homer Bailey, Athletics at Astros $6,900 FD, $7,400 DK: Making his second appearance for the Athletics, Bailey is a intriguing GPP option tonight. Bailey was sharp in his A’s debut, allowing just two runs over six innings in a win against the Mariners. The right-hander returns to his home state of Texas for a matchup with the Astros, whom he’s 4-0 against with a 1.46 ERA in eight career starts.

Scott Engel and Mark Paquette discuss the Main MLB DFS Slate on the 7/22 MLB DFS Podcast. This is a schedule that has a lot of interesting pitching picks. But gaining the right hitting advantages will not be easy. Weather concerns could make the best DFS Stack in Washington a risky play, according to Mark.

7/22 MLB DFS Podcast Pitching Picks

Gerrit Cole and Mike Clevinger are very pricey, and Robbie Ray may be the top alternative. Trevor Williams is a great salary saver. When your’e done listening to our 7/21 MLB DFS Podcast, please check out our premium weather blog to stay up to date.

With a nine game Main slate on FanDuel we have high, mid, and low end options for DFS MLB pitching.  One stands out far above the rest but we have cheaper options and potential pivots.

Top Overall DFS MLB Pitching Arm – Mike Clevinger ($9,400 FD).  Clevinger has a crazy K Rate of 37.9% on the season and gets the matchup we should be targeting with any RHP in the Detroit Tigers.  Even though they have added a few left handed bats since the All-Star break they still have a team K Rate of 24.3% vs. RHPs. In addition, the Tigers have lacked power as a team with an ISO of .145.  He’s my number one in all formats.

Tournament DFS MLB Pitching Pivot 1 – Robbie Ray ($9,600 FD).  Ray gets the Rangers, who currently have a K Rate of 26.4% against lefties and Ray has a K Rate of 30.8% on the season.  Hunter Pence came back to the lineup and makes the matchup a little tougher for lefties. With Ray you have to worry about walks since he has a 11.9% rate.  The great hitting weather and the walk rate make him a GPP only option for me. However, he could easily be the highest scoring pitcher and might break the slate.

Tournament DFS MLB Pitching Pivot 2 – Gerrit Cole ($11,400 FD).  While I never like to pay this much for a pitcher against a lineup that only strikes out 17.8% of the time against right handed pitchers, he is in play because he goes deep into games and has a massive K Rate of 37.4.  However, he will fall out of my player pool if Trout comes back tonight. I think if Trout is out of the lineup he becomes a great GPP play since the Angels have a team ISO of .165. This is important because where Cole struggles is with the long ball.  If the long ball risk is mitigated, I’d be willing to take my chances with him against a low K lineup. Ownership should be low for him tonight due to price and matchup.

Salary DFS MLB Pitching Saver – Trevor Richards ($6,400 FD).  San Diego has K Rate of 25.3% against Righties on the season but they also bring some power bats.  He has a 23.0% K Rate against righties and he could see up to seven of them in the Padres lineup. This power risk is mitigated some since Marlins Park is a pitcher’s park.  If Richards avoids the long ball, there are enough strikeouts in this lineup to pay off the price tag and possibly make him the best points per dollar play on the slate.
