Welcome to Zak’s Puck Picks!! I started in Cash with Flash Handicapping Challenge and have been heating up. I am super excited to keep the momentum going and win some serious money with all of you!

A big part of my life is my 3 kids. Each one of them holds a different attribute that I would personally use to aid me in deciding what picks to make. My twins Pork and Ribs and their little brother Bean (not their real names but very appropriate nicknames).

Pork is a doer. He is one to dive into a situation and figure it out as it unfolds, usually with great success. In terms of the puck pick, it will be a gut feeling pick and be backed with some stats to explain the feeling.

Ribs, he likes to observe the situation, take in all the information, and then make an educated decision on what his next step will be. His puck pick will be focused around teams that are on hot streaks, either against a team in a matchup or on a winning streak.

Now Bean may sound cute and innocent, but he is a wild man. Not a lot of thought goes into actions and if there is some thought, its geared towards “how can I push Dad’s buttons”. His puck pick will be a little more on the risky side. There will be reasons why I think we should go this way.

As cook by trade and hockey as a passion since I was 3 years old, let’s get some puck picks in the oven and make some dough shall we?

Puck Record for February (9-3) last night (2-1).

Pork’s Puck Pick- Toronto -175

Toronto may have a short memory, however, I don’t think the embarrassment of the 8-4 drubbing the last time the Panthers came to town is quickly forgotten about. Without a fully healthy Sasha Barkov and the Leafs out for revenge, I expect them to come out firing on all cylinders. I know, I know I told Javier Prellezo on discord I wouldn’t bet against his cats anymore. But Pork’s got a feeling! As per Newsday Sports, I am predicting this to be a close game as the teams are 2^nd (Panthers) and 3^rd (Leafs) in goals per game separated by 0.004 goals per game. As well they are 24^th (Leafs) and 25^th. (Panthers) in goals against per game separated by 0.588 goals against. The Leafs have won both of their games coming out of the All-Star break where Florida has lost their meeting 4-0 against the Canadians. I see the Leafs taking this one. Sorry Javi

Rib’s Puck Pick- Dallas vs New York Rangers Over/Under. Under 5.5 goals -115

The Rangers are coming off back to back wins against Detroit, which you hope would be the case. Now they come up against a very solid defensive team in the Dallas Stars. Dallas is coming off a 3-2 shootout win vs the Devils and the Rangers won 1-0 against Detroit. The stats at Newsday sports has 4 of the last 5 meetings finishing under 5.5 goals, with all 4 of those finishing with 3 or fewer goals combined. With Dallas’s lack of ability to put the puck in the net and their ability to keep pucks out of their net, I see this low scoring trend continuing.

Bean’s Puck Pick – Philadelphia- PUCK LINE -1.5 (+117)

The Flyers are coming off of an impressive 6-3 win against the Colorado Avalanche. As Philly has struggled more on the road, I don’t need to tell you the struggles of the Detroit Red Wings home or away. Outscoring their opponents 16-11 in their last 5 games as well as beating Detroit by 2 or more in their last 2 meetings, I see this scoring trend continuing this evening in Motown!

2/3 NHL DFS – The Daily Hot Shot

This article focuses on NHL DFS Picks for 2/3 on DraftKings and FanDuel. Both sites have fairly different scoring formats, particularly with the recent changes on DraftKings. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. BE SURE to double-check both regular and power play lines at both morning skate and before lock as they can drastically change from the time of publication.

Top Expensive Line

Toronto One – Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner, Zach Hyman

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a -167 favorite as of the time of writing, in the game with the highest total on this slate. I like both teams in this one and think that it sets up well for a game stack. However, Auston Matthews should be the highest owned player on the slate and given how many goals the Panthers have given up on the road, if building one line, I will side with Toronto first. The Maple Leafs second line hasn’t been getting it done recently outside of William Nylander. However, the top line has 138 SATF and eight full line goals over their last ten games, tying them for fourth in the NHL during that period.

Top Value Line

Philadelphia Two – Joel Farabee, Sean Couturier, Jacob Voracek

Did you think I wouldn’t mention any lines against the Red Wings on a three-game slate? Guess again. Detroit has been better at home this season and Philly has been a lot worse on the road. However, “Slipping” Jimmy Howard should be in net and the Flyers are a -225 favorite for a reason. The first line is certainly in play and James Van Riemsdyk makes for a solid FanDuel play but the second line seems a bit underpriced recently on DraftKings. All three skaters also have a full correlation on the Philadelphia second power-play unit, on top of their even-strength pairing. On DraftKings, Jacob Voracek is $2,000 less than on FanDuel so if you play on both sites that is where to roster this line. Overall, on FanDuel it makes sense to give the first line more consideration although at $3,500 Joel Farabee is a lock.

2/3 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Auston Matthews, Jonathan Huberdeau, Evgenii Dadonov – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet had it’s streak snapped and is now down to 25/35. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin grabbed a point but Alex Ovechkin gave us a rare goose-egg. For this slate, Auston Matthews should be the first man in. Next, I decided to grab some Panthers exposure so I will wait to double-check his status before placing tomorrow but would prefer Aleksander Barkov, if available. Jonathan Huberdeau would be an alternate option if Barkov is out due to an injury he picked up the other night. For the last spot, I think that you might as well go back to the Maple Leafs and Panthers, so I added Evgenii Dadonov.

NFL DFS SUPER BOWL Showdown Preview with DFS Pro David Jones

The NFL is all about finding the best opportunities for guaranteed production with a high upside. Follow my stud and value plays and lock in the NFL DFS Picks of Destiny.

David Jones took down the Week 8 Monday Night Showdown which is the fourth time he has won it the past five contests.

I want to start off this article by saying you must have the absolute nuts to win the top prize up top on large field GPPs. There is no room for mistakes with so many entries in these contests. If you think you are going to win it all by playing a combo of the top seven guys in the player pool, you are not. If a combo of a bunch of guys you have heard of before is indeed the best scoring lineup, you will most likely tie for first. If that sounds good to you, then go for it. It will be profitable if you nail it, but for me, I like to be a little different on these slates. I will be making multiple teams and taking long shots on a few cheap guys.

Leaving cash on the table in these NFL DFS contests is fine too. This makes your lineup even more unique and lower owned because a lot of amateurs will be pulling their hair out to use their entire salary.

That all being said, I have looked at every possible player that can get on the field and listed my picks below.

The NFL DFS SUPER BOWL Showdown Picks

It may seem obvious but on FanDuel you want the highest scoring player in the MVP slot. On Draftkings it is different, you want the best value. These picks were made with Fanduel pricing.

MVP: Patrick Mahomes ($16,000 FD) Quarterbacks are normally what wins it at the MVP spot on FanDuel and we have one of the best in the game playing. I wish I had a “cute” top pick for MVP, but I do not. Although I expect the 49ers offense to be on the field more here, Mahomes moves the ball when he gets a chance. The San Fran D is tough, but not unbeatable. Mahomes has a great receiver in Hill, a top TE in Kelce and also has a big pass catching weapon coming out of the backfield in Damien Williams. He in all likelihood will be the highest scoring player on the slate. Reminder, this is for FanDuel. On DraftKings I would likely pay down.

MVP Pivot: Tyreek Hill ($12,000 FD) Besides, Damien Williams, Hill has the best potential for multiple touchdowns which is what you are going to need if Mahomes isn’t the MVP. Sometimes he let’s us down, but sometimes he goes off. He is simply too fast and I am certain Andy Reid has a couple deep routes all lineup up for him.

MVP 2: Raheem Mostert ($13,500 FD) If you want a SanFran player for your MVP spot it is Raheem Mostert. You can run on KC much easier than pass on them. I am also a believer that the 49ers plan this week is run the football and keep Mahomes off the field. This game should be close in my opinion, which means more ground game for the scareltt red and gold.

If you are considering taking a 49ers receiver for MVP you might as well take Jimmy G. I like him a lot better on DraftKings.

Flex Options: Listed in order of preference

Damien Williams ($14,000 FD) I feel like he has trouble running the ball here, but will do his job in the pass game. He has been steadily producing all playoffs and will be a big part of the KC offensive game plan.
Deebo Samuel ($8,500 FD) Hello underpriced Deebo. I love him this Sunday. He is “arguably” there best receiver on the 49ers and lately he has been getting involved with the run. He has a 14 yard rush prop and is one of my favorite players to get in the end zone. He is on my main lineup.
Jimmy Garoppolo ($14,000 FD) His latest stats are frightening. But this is the Super Bowl and he is the quarterback of the team that I THINK will win. He is a better play on DK where he is way underpriced. On Fanduel he is not a priority for me largely due to being the third highest priced option. I am making multiple lineups and will have some Jimmy G, just not a ton.
George Kittle ($11,500 FD) He has a much easier matchup at the TE position than Travis Kelce, so if I can only fit one it is going to be Kittle.
Emmanuel Sanders ($10,000 FD) Big game playmaker in a big game. If you go the route of him and Samuel (or Kittle) you have just committed to a 49ers stack and you need to highly consider play Jimmy G with them two receivers/TEs. This will not be my route, but it makes sense if you are heavy on the 49ers pass atack.
Travis Kelce ($12,500 FD) I prefer Hill but will have some Kelce as well. I have mentioned it before, you do not want them both on the same team.
Robbie Gould ($9,000 FD) A steady kicker. He is a better play on DK, but I will have some on FanDuel.
Kendrick Bourne ($7,000 FD) One of my sweetheart receivers this year. I won a showdown with him earlier this season and will be over weight on him this Sunday. He is just as likely to get a redzone target as Deebo or Sanders and he is cheaper. I know he will not get the volume as the other two guys, but all it takes is a big play or two.
Mecole Hardman ($6,000 FD) Way too cheap. Great salary saver.
Harrison Butker ($9,500 FD) Chiefs kicker
Demarcus Robinson ($6,500 FD) I prefer Hardman, but Robinson has shown some promise this season. He is capable of catching a big pass or two. I like pairing one of these cheap receivers with Mahomes.
Kyle Juszczyk ($6,000 FD) Much better play on DK where he is $1,200. Desperate play on Fanduel, but he is on the field quite a bit. He is a guy targeted in the redzone and used in the pass game out of the backfield. If Coleman is struggling to participate in the pass game, Kyle might get his number called more.

Punts:

Tevin Coleman ($10,000 FD) I just can’t get to him much in this spot at this price. He is dealing with a nagging shoulder injury, and I know he is going to play, but the question is will he be effective enough to pay off 10K? I don’t think so.
Matt Breida ($7,500 FD) Perhaps my favorite Milli Maker play because he is SO boom or bust. IF Coleman is struggling, AND Breida gets hot, the 49ers should keep him in. In the first playoff game it was Coleman for the 49ers, in the second it was Mostert, what will happen in the third? I’ll take some shots on Breida.
Ross Dwelley ($5,500 FD) Kittle is in a great spot, but that means Dwelley is too. This is a punt play that could get a 0, but if Kittle has to come off the field for any reason then Dwelley will be sitting in the weeds, waiting to attack.
Darwin Thompson ($6,000 FD) I’ll have one on a team that doesn’t have Damien Williams in a Dooms Day scenario.
Jeff Wilson ($5,000 FD) He might get one crack at the end zone. Even if he scores from the one yard line, I don’t think it will be enough to win a million dollars, which I plan on doing.

It should come to no surprise that in games that the total exceeds 51 or more points Patrick Mahomes ($12,600) puts on an absolute clinic. Before the playoffs, in the divisional playoff game and championship game Mahomes scored (41 and 35 points respectively). He is clearly the best fantasy quarterback in the game but that is why he is the most expensive player.

Super Bowl DFS DraftKings

As for Jimmy Garoppolo ($8,000), he is the seventh-most expensive player in the game on DraftKings. The narrative here is that Garoppolo is entering this game very similar to how Ryan Tannehill was. Basically, the Titans were just relying on the run game and Tannehill had thrown for just 160 yards total on 31 passing attempts. In the championship game alone Tannehill went 21-31 for 209 yards and two touchdowns.

For defenses overall on this slate the Chiefs ($3,000) are the cheaper of the two on DraftKings with the 49ers ($3,600) coming in slightly higher. Both of these defenses can get after the quarterback in passing situations. The current over/under on sack totals in the game is 4.5 sacks. I like the over there.

Damien Williams ($9,800) is the third-most-expensive player on DraftKings. I tend to favor rostering pass-catching running backs in the captain spot due to their path to touchdowns. Williams has been getting all the carries and snaps in the Chiefs backfield since returning from injury so I like him a lot. He has nine touchdowns in five career playoff games. With the 49ers heavy zone scheme and a low percentage of blitzes Williams should see plenty of targets in the backfield. The 49ers have allowed the lowest ADOT this season to opposing quarterbacks (6.8).

Additionally, the only team that played more zone than the 49ers did this season were the Los Angeles Chargers, who the Chiefs played twice this season. In those games, the Kansas City running backs averaged 6.5 receptions with the lead back getting at least four receptions.

The 49ers have one of the best fullbacks in the NFL. The 49ers this season had a 54% success rate when running from 21-personnel averaging 5.4 yards per attempt. They also ran it 32% of the time (#1 in the NFL). The Kansas City defense versus that personnel grouping allowed a 51% success rate and 5.5 yards per carry. Kyle Juszczyk ($1,800) is sneaky on DraftKings at his price for Super Bowl DFS.

Top Two Lines

New York Rangers Two – Ryan Strome, Artemi Panarin, Jesper Fast

This feels like a repeat of last night’s article but you can re-read everything that I already said regarding the Rangers and the Red Wings. To summarize, Detroit has nearly double as bad a goal differential as the next closest team, their goalies are practically turnstiles, they stink! Not surprisingly, the Rangers dominated the Red Wings last night and get to face them again on the road end of a back to back. Both of the Ranger’s top two lines are in play and I would make sure to have Artemi Panarin in any cash lines. The Breadman had two points last night including a spectacular goal and should be back to work in the point-scoring business tonight. Mika Zibanejad got a lot of ownership last night as well, so a cross line, power play-oriented Rangers build doesn’t seem like a bad idea either.

Toronto One – Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner, Zach Hyman

This line has been one of the best in the NHL with nine full line goals over their last ten games. Toronto has a high 4.48 implied goal and comes in a heavy -280 favorite tomorrow at home against the Senators. The Sens come in on the second night of a back to back and should have their hands full here. Auston Matthews is the standout play and I would make sure to have both him and Artemi Panarin in any of my cash games. In a large field tournament, you can add the other two skaters but on a slate with so many studs, they are far from priorities in cash games or smaller tournaments.
