Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Saturday and that means we have plenty of games to navigate through.  Tonight on tap we have a 12-game slate of NHL DFS. Yes, you read that right. We’ll have 24 teams in action. That’ll mean we’ll have plenty of options to choose from and plenty of value to help us get the top lines we want to play.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Juuse Saros vs. Washington Capitals

The Juice is on the loose. Saros has been playing some amazing hockey of late. If we look at what he’s done of late, he’s going to be clearly one of the top options on the slate. Over his last 5 outings, he’s been at or over 13 DK points in each start. In multiple starts, Saros has been well over 20 DK points.

The Matchup for him is also great tonight. The aging Capitals just aren’t scoring much of late. Over the last 2 weeks, the Capitals have scored just 2.67 goals per game over 6 contests. That’s just pitiful and their start player Alex Ovechkin has now gone goal-less in 11 contests. Don’t look for him to break that streak tonight. I’m going to be all over Saros tonight, even though he’s at $8k. He should get the W and with the way he’s playing, a shutout isn’t out of the question.

Sam Montembeault vs. New York Islanders

If cheap goaltenders are your thing (it is mine), then Sam Montembeault is your goalie for tonight. He’s coming into this one at just $7k, but he’s been playing much better than that price tag and gets a matchup vs. an Islanders team that is on the second leg of a back-to-back. Monty has a .917 save % over his last 4 contests and just a 2.7 GAA. Both are extremely solid numbers.

The Islanders for their part have been taking a lot of shots and that should help Monty even more tonight. Over the last 2 weeks, the Islanders have taken over 33 shots per game. With the Canadiens propensity to give up a lot of shots, this will set us up for the potential 35-save bonus on DK tonight. Which makes Monty even more appealing tonight. Because he’s a risky play, I’d stick him in just GPP’s. That’s what I plan on doing with him tonight.

Other goalies: Connor Hellebuyck and Cam Talbot

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Edmonton 1 (Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman) vs. Florida Panthers

No team on the slate tonight has been scoring more goals per game over the last 2 weeks than the Edmonton Oilers. At 4.40 goals per game, they have a pretty decent margin over the next team. A lot of that has been due to the play of this top unit for Edmonton. They’ll get a decent matchup tonight against a Panthers team that has given up over 3 goals per game over the last 2 weeks.

After struggling to start the season, McDavid has been a beast. Over his last 5 games, McDavid has 11 points. Yes, that’s an average of more than 2 points per game. He will cost us an arm and a leg, but I’m 100% ok with that tonight given that there will be value that we can find elsewhere.

Next to him, I’m going to make sure to lock up Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He’s the cheapest of the 3 on this line, but gives us the value. He’s also been playing great. Over his last 5 games, RNH has 10 points. He’s finally playing some of the best hockey of his career. We can certainly add Zach Hyman to this stack, but a two-man of McDavid and RNH is very much in play tonight.

Buffalo 2 (Dylan Cozens, Casey Mittelstadt, JJ Peterka) vs. Arizona Coyotes

We used him a ton last season, but this season he’s been an attackable goalie. Karel Vejmelka has been statistically one of the worst goalies in the NHL this season. With Connor Ingram being the main guy this season, Vej has mostly taken a backseat. When he’s played, he’s been terrible. On the year he has just a .892 save % and a 3.50 GAA. Just awful numbers for the big guy.

Knowing how bad he’s been playing, I’m going to rock the second Sabres line tonight. Are they a safe play? Far from it. Of the 4 lines for Buffalo, they are probably the best value for tonight. That’ll make paying up for Edmonton 1 a little bit easier. No one on this line is more than $4.8k. My favorite of the 3 is going to be MIttelstadt and Peterka. These 2 have combined for 6 points over their last 5 games. Again, nothing special, but they get a great matchup tonight vs. a bad goalie. There should be some upside here.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Boston 1 vs. NYR (Shesty has been bad)

NYR 1 vs. Boston

Devils 1 and 2 vs. Columbus

Columbus 2 vs. NJD

Toronto 1 and 2 vs. Pittsburgh

Nashville 1 vs. Washington

TB 1 and 2 vs. Calgary

Value D

Mattias Samuelsson $3.1k

Jack Johnson $2.5k

Nick DeSimone $2.5k

Connor Clifton $2.5k

NHL DFS Summary

Keep in mind that the top stocks that I wrote up aren’t necessarily the top lines of the night, they match up to make a solid lineup. Toronto, Boston, and the Devils are all in great spots tonight too, and should be productive. Feel free to pick and choose your spots.

Welcome to Between the Benches, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Thursday and that means we have a Hockey Night!  We have a massive 11-game slate tonight that we’ll want to navigate through.  This slate brings us some really solid matchups.  There are some lopsided matchups in this one and there are also some really boring games that we’ll be able to cross right off our list.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Karel Vejmelka vs. St. Louis Blues

When in doubt, play Vej!  I plan on utilizing him heavily tonight as he fits the bill I’m looking for.  He’s cheap.  At just $7.6k on DK tonight he’ll give us some serious payroll flexibility without the loss of productivity.  On the year, Vejmelka has had some decent numbers.  While he’s 2-4, I’m more focused on the save % that’s north of .900.  He also has a respectable GAA at 3.09.

The Coyotes have been a little more stout defensively this season as they’re only allowing around 33 shots per game over the last couple of weeks.  That’s more than enough volume however to get us a goalie that should hit value tonight.  With all that said, Vejmelka should be more reserved for GPP’s as there’s a good chance he does not get the W tonight.

James Reimer vs. Montreal Canadiens

The Detroit Red Wings will turn over the crease to James Reimer this evening and that has me really intrigued.  He’s only started 4 games this season but boy has he been good!  He’s sporting a .944 save % and a GAA of just 1.52.  In the 4 games he’s started he’s failed to get into double-digit DK points just once.  In that game, he was still positive as he scored 7 DK points.  I’m willing to roll the dice with him here as he’s a very affordable $7.9k on DK.  That’s a very fair price given his production and matchup.

This is a Canadiens team that just doesn’t have a lot of firepower.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’re scoring just 2.83 goals per game, while taking around 31 shots on goal.  This is a goalie you can certainly use in Cash games if that’s your thing.  The Red Wings are heavy favorites here at -170.  Lock and load with Reimer!

Other goalies: Thatcher Demko, Jake Oettinger, and Alexandar Georgiev.

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Edmonton 1 (Connor McDavid, Ryan McCleod, Zach Hyman) vs. San Jose Sharks

With his being an 11-game slate tonight, there should be plenty of value options for us to find to be able to afford this top unit for Edmonton.  While the Sharks are fresh off their first win of the season vs. the Flyers, this is a bad team that will continue to do bad things.  Through 12 games this season, the Sharks have a -42 goal differential.  They are on a record pace to be a historically bad team.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’re giving up 5.50 goals per game and nearly 17 high-danger chances.  They are bad and we should stack against them any chance we get, except when they play the Flyers of course.

The start of the season has surely been a disappointment for the top player in the NHL.  Through 9 games, McDavid has just 8 10 points.  For someone who had 153 points in 82 games last year, he’s off to a very slow pace.  If ever there was a game on the schedule where we’d see a vintage McDavid performance, this is it!  He’s an absolute lock for me this evening.  I do wish he was playing alongside Leon Draisaitl, but he’s still in a great spot tonight.

I plan on locking him up with Zach Hyman by his side. These 2 not only play together on the top unit, they also play together on the top power-play unit for Edmonton.  They’ll have plenty of chances to score this evening, making them a very intriguing option.  Min-priced Ryan McLeod makes a nice addition for us at an extremely cheap price.  He’s nowhere near a must-play, but this cheap playing next to McDavid is very appealing.

Vancouver 1 (Elias Pettersson, Ilya Mikheyev, Andrei Kuzmenko) vs. Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are coming off a hard-earned win last night and should have some tired legs in this one.  Because of that, I’m going to be stacking against them with the top unit for Vancouver  I wouldn’t argue with you if you decided to drop down to the second unit but I’m mostly interested in this top line.  The Canucks will more than likely be shooting on Anton Forsberg this evening.

Forsberg has not been good.  Over his 4 starts this season, Forsberg has just a .861 save % and has allowed 3.42 goals per game.  Both of those numbers are close to the bottom of all the goalies expected to start tonight.  Whenever I see numbers like this, I stack against them.

My main focus on this line will be Elias Pettersson as he’s the anchor here.  Over his last 5 games, Pettersson has been really solid with 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points.  Only Quinn Hughes has more points for the Canucks over that stretch.  Pettersson has also been averaging close to 3.5 shots per game, putting him right in the square of the offense.  Neither Mikheyev nor Kuzmenko is a priority and they are both evenly priced.  If I had to pick between the 2 of them, I’d pick Kuzemnko as he does just a little bit more on offense.  Kuzmenko will also skate with Pettersson on the top power-play unit which makes him all the more appealing.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Boston 1 or 2 vs. Islanders

Detroit 1 vs. Montreal (they are close to my second favorite stack right behind Vancouver)

Ottawa 2 vs. Vancouver

Rangers 1 vs. Minnesota (Fleury is passed his prime)

Minnesota 1 vs. Rangers (Rangers are starting a 3rd string Goalie)

TB 1 and 2 vs. Chicago

LA 1 vs. Pittsburgh

Value D

Mason Lohrei ($2.5k) – Double digit DK points in 2 of 3 games

Jeff Petry ($2.8k) – Double digit DK points in back to back games

Neal Pionk ($3.2k)

Filip Hronek ($4.3k)

NHL DFS Summary

This is a great looking slate that should be high scoring. I’m all in on the Oilers as I think the Sharks come back down to earth after their dismantling of the LOL Flyers.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Saturday and that means it’s Saturday Slapshot time!  We have our first really large NHL DFS slate tonight as we have 24 teams in action.  This slate is packed with talent as teams like Edmonton, Tampa Bay, and the New York Rangers all take the ice.  Some teams are in some really amazing spots that we’ll want to take advantage of.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Igor Shesterkin vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

As a die-hard New York Rangers fan, I’ve been blessed with some really top-notch goaltending between Mike Richter and Henrik Lundqvist.  Now, we get to see Igor Shesterkin on full display.  Fresh off his 100th career win on Thursday night, Shesterkin should be between the pipes for the Ranger tonight.  He’s coming off a solid 2023-2024 debut that saw him turn away 23 of the 24 shots he faced.

He’ll have a much easier go of it tonight vs. an average-at-best Blue Jackets team.  The Rangers are solid favorites tonight at -205.  Look for Shesterkin to not only get the win number 101, but a shutout I not out of the question, especially if the Rangers play the type of D they played on Thursday.  He’s cash game and GPP playable tonight.

Adin Hill vs. Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks

I will always call them the Mighty Ducks.  Although they have some firepower on offense, it’s not deep and the Vegas Golden Knights are still the reigning Stanley Cup Champions.  I wish Adin Hill was a little bit cheaper than he is, but it’s a great spot for him tonight to continue with the momentum that he built the other night vs. a very good Kraken team.

In that game, Hill stopped 32 of the 33 shots.  I doubt he sees the same amount of shots tonight, but he’s a massive favorite at -355.  He’s more so a Cash Game play tonight because his price at $8.5k  is a little prohibitive and will limit the skaters that you can grab.

If you want to get risky for your GPP lineups tonight, go with John Gibson.  He’s surely going to face a massive amount of shots and is only $6.9k tonight on DK.  There’s almost 0 chance he gets a W and there’s a great chance he lets in a few goals.  But there’s also a great chance that he gets the 35-save bonus on DK tonight.  Buyer beware on this bad boy.  Filip Gustavsson vs. Toronto is also a nice GPP option.

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Edmonton 1 (Connor McDavid/Evander Kane/Connor Brown) vs. Vancouver Canucks

This is essentially a re-match of the Wednesday.  A game that saw the Canucks absolutely destroy the Oilers 8-1.  That game was in Vancouver and tonight the Oilers get the advantage of playing on home ice.  That brings a completely different element and one that should bring a huge advantage to Edmonton.  For those new here, having a home-ice advantage is huge as you get you set the matchups on the ice.  It’s one of the bigger advantages that you can get in spots.

Back to the Edmonton 1.  I try to play Connor McDavid whenever I can.  He has more upside than anyone in the game.  He’s also coming off a career year that saw him score 64 goals and 89 assists for 153 points.  This was by far the best year of his career and tbh, he can do more.  I love this spot for him to score at least his first goal of the season.

While his linemate Evander Kane isn’t a standup guy, he is an exceptional hockey player, and skating next to McDavid will only make him better.  Look for this line to have a monster night.

Rangers 2 (Filip Chytil/Artemi Panarin/Alexis Lafreniere) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

The New York Rangers will get the luxury of facing off against Elvis Merzlikins tonight.  While Merzlikins has a ton of talent, he also gives up lots of goals.  Last season he had a career-worst 4.23 GAA (goals against average).  That’s horrendous.  While I expect him to be a little better this season (can’t be much worse), it won’t happen tonight.  He’s going to get lit up like a Christmas tree by a team that scored 5 goals in the opener against a very good Buffalo Sabres team.

I said it in Discord the other night, but watch out for Alexis Lafreniere this season.  He’s entering his age-22 season and is primed for a breakout campaign after having a solid camp.  He’s coming off a season that saw him have a career-high 39 points.  While that number is nothing major, he should be able to improve on that substantially this season as he’ll be skating next to one of the more underrated players in the NHL in Artemi Panarin.

Panarin is coming off a great season that saw him 92 points.  That was the 3rd time in 4 seasons that he’s been over 90 points with the Rangers.  He’s primed to have his first 100-point season this year.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Vegas 1 or 2 vs. Anaheim

Colorado 1 vs. San Jose

Montreal 1 vs. Chicago (Cole Caufield is only $4.7k)

Tampa 1 vs. Detroit

Boston 1 or 2 vs. Nashville

Value D

Ryan McDonagh

Kaiden Guhle

Kevin Shattenkirk

John Klingberg

NHL DFS Summary

This slate is going to be a fun one for the first Saturday night of the season.  We have a ton of teams that have major upside in lopsided matchups.

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   We’re getting close to the point of the season where teams will start jockeying for playoff position. We have a clear upper echelon of teams, a bottom tier, and then a bunch of in the middle. Tonight’s 7-game slate of NHL DFS gives us teams in all three categories. Buckle up, it’s gonna be a fun ride tonight.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Matt Murray vs. Carolina – I don’t mind Matt Murray here one bit. Yes, the Hurricanes can have a dynamic offense at times. However, they haven’t shown it over the last couple of weeks. In their last 8 games, the Hurricanes have scored just 17 goals for an average of just a smidge over 2. This is a team that we can attack with a goalie right now and I plan on doing so with one that will cost us just $7.5k on DK tonight. He’s risky, but the price makes it appealing.

Darcy Kuemper vs. Pittsburgh – Another cheap goalie vs. another team struggling to put the puck in the back of the net. I’m a bit more risk-averse with my goalies these days and this is another example of that. The Penguins have scored less than 3 goals per game over the last couple of weeks, and I don’t think that changes much tonight. While they have some star power, they’re also all mostly struggling. This is a spot that Kuemper can succeed in tonight.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Kane, Hyman) + Nurse vs. Vegas

The surface numbers aren’t that bad for Vegas right now. Over the last couple of weeks, they’ve given up just 2.88 goals per game. Not bad! However, if you dig a bit deeper you can see their goaltending has been keeping them afloat. Vegas is giving up nearly 16 high-danger chances per game and over 34 shots on goal per game over that stretch. Against an offense like Edmonton, that many high-danger chances and that many shots on goal are asking for trouble.

I’m going to attack Vegas tonight with the best hockey player on this planet, and that’s Connor McDavid. McDavid has 5 goals and 6 assists over his last 5 games. He’s having by far the best season of his career, and that’s saying a lot. I have a slight preference to pair him with Kane over Hyman as Kane is $500 cheaper on DK tonight. That savings, while not high, will come in handy when paying all the way up for McDavid.

Dropping down to line 2 is also in play. Draisaitl is also playing some unreal hockey right now with 12 points in his last 5 games. You can pair him with a very cheap Yamamoto. Yamamoto has 10 high-danger chances over his last 5 and we know that Vegas gives up a ton of those.

Dallas 3 (Johnston, Benn, Dadonov) + Heiskanen vs. Vancouver

Vancouver has been playing better of late, giving up just 2.29 goals over the last couple of weeks. That said, they’re going to have their hands full tonight vs. a very good Dallas Stars team. The Stars’ offense is rolling right now, scoring nearly 4.5 goals per game over their 8. They should be able to get to the Canucks tonight.

I’m going to drop down to the Stars’ third line tonight so save a little bit of cash. This line has been playing very well. Over their last 5, Benn and Johnston have combined for 7 goals and 12 total points. They should continue to play well in this matchup. We’ve seen the Canucks give up a ton of goals at points this season, tonight seems like a perfect time for it to happen again.

Columbus 2 (Roslovic, Johnson, Foudy) + Boqvist vs. Montreal

If you want to play both McDavid and Draisaitl together tonight, this line may your best bet to make it work. The Blue Jackets take on the Canadiens in a battle of 2 very awful teams. This game has the makings of a 7-6 game as neither team knows how to play defense and both teams have goaltenders that just aren’t very good.

This line is far from safe, but again, I want a piece of this game and this is a cheap way to get it. Roslovic has averaged close to a point per game over his last 5 games and is just $3.6k on DK. Johnson has 4 points in his last 5 and is even cheaper at $3.1k. If these guys can both get a couple of points while enabling us to fit the Oilers’ stars, we could be looking at a takedown tonight.

Other Stacks: Dal 1, Mtl 1 and 2, Columbus 1, NJ 1 and 2, Ott 1, Was 1, Stl 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Travis Hamonic – $3.8k on DK
  • Mattias Ekholm – $3.7k on Dk
  • Marco Scandella– $2.5k on DK
  • Robert Bortuzzo – $2.5k on DK

Summary

We have a fun day of NHL DFS in store. I plan on loading up on Oilers tonight and going out from there. While I didn’t name them in my top stacks, St. Louis is in a marvelous position tonight.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   We have a nice-sized 8-game slate of NHL DFS tonight. We have some glaring mismatches tonight between teams jockeying for playoff position and teams jockeying for Conner Bedard. This should be a fun, high-scoring night. Lock is an hour earlier than normal tonight so you’ll want to make sure you’re dialed into that.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Petr Mrazek vs. Nashville – This Blackhawks/Predators game tonight will be a battle between two teams that have given up on the 2022/2023 campaign. Both have traded away key offensive assets and are throwing out questionable NHL lineups. Mrazek has been playing some solid goalie. He’s been in double-digit DK points in 5 of his last 6 games and this is a game he should excel in. Mrazek is never a safe goalie, but I really like him tonight.

Juuse Saros vs. Chicago – If you want to go with the safer play, Saros is your best bet. Yes, I’m recommending both goalies in this one. The Blackhawks’ offense is really bad now. Gone are both Kane and Domi. The two guys that were keeping this offense afloat. With the lineup that the Blackhawks will be using nightly going forward, they are almost a lock for Bedard. Saros has a very real chance at a shutout tonight.

NHL DFS Stacks

Ottawa 1 (Stutzle, Tkachuck, Giroux) + Chabot vs. Columbus

The Senators should be able to have their way tonight with Columbus. More than likely starting in net for the Blue Jackets tonight will be newcomer Michael Hutchison. He’s posted a sub .900 save percentage in the AHL this season which is bad. The Blue Jackets are giving up a ton of shots right now, with over 35 per game over the last 2 weeks. With having shotty goaltending tonight, this sets up for a monster night for Ottawa.

This top line for Ottawa has been great. They’ve combined for 20 points over their last 5 games. The goals are pretty spread out as well with this line so a full line stack is very much in play. That said, my priority would be Stutzle and Tkachuck. Both guys also fire the puck on net a ton and you should be able to get the 5 shot bonus on DK with them. This line has a great opportunity to be the top line of the slate.

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Kulak, Hyman) + Nurse vs. Winnipeg

Even though Edmonton is on the back end of a back-to-back, I still really like their chances tonight to do some damage. Their offense is always explosive and they’ll be playing against a free-falling Jets team. Over the last 2 weeks, the Jets are just 1-5-1, while allowing close to 4 goals per game. What was once a top team in the league, is now just a struggling team.

There’s nothing I need to tell you to play McDavid. He’s the best player in the league, one of the best players of our generation, and having the best year of his career. There will always be that chance that he has a subpar game, I just don’t think it will be tonight. Over his last 5 games, Kulak has 4 assists and is just $3.4k on DK. He’ll be a nice way to bring down the cost of McDavid.

Los Angeles 1 (Kempe, Kopitar, Fiala) + Doughty vs. St. Louis

One of the best matchups on the board tonight will be the Kings vs. Blues. The Blues have been horrendous over the last couple of weeks. They are giving up over 4 goals per game and over 15.5 high-danger chances per game. That’s not going to cut it and they should struggle vs. a very good Kings team tonight.

This top line for LA has been very good this season. Kopitar has been very hot over his last 5 games as he has 6 goals. While Kempe has been quiet, he has been firing on the net with 16 shots over his last 5 games. At some point, one of those shots will go in. Against a defensively challenged Blues team, this line should do well tonight.

Other Stacks: Pitt 1 and 2, Fla 1, Was 1, Ott 2, Tor 1 and 2, Edm 2 or PP

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Martin Fehervary – $3.7k on DK
  • Radko Gudas – $3.3k on Dk
  • Marcus Pettersson – $3.6k on DK

Summary

We have a fun day of NHL DFS in store. A handful of the games tonight are extreme mismatches. Nothing is a given, but teams like Ottawa, Toronto, and LA should all crush tonight.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   For a Saturday, we have a nice-sized 9-game slate of NHL DFS. There are some great spots for offense tonight that we’ll want to take advantage of.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Logan Thompson ($7.6K DK/$7.4k FD) vs. New York Islanders – The Islanders’ offense is a mess right now. Over the last 2 weeks, they’ve scored just 15 goals in 8 games. They’re coming off a win last night, but they scored just 2 goals in that one. Until their offense starts clicking again, we’ll want to target goalies against them. The price for Thompson is really nice as it’s in the mid $7k range. That makes him playable in GPP’s tonight.

John Gibson ($7.8k DK/$7.6k FD) vs. Arizona Coyotes –We have a matchup here of 2 teams that have combined for 72 points. For context, the Bruins have 80 points. Neither of these offenses is any good, especially the Coyotes’ offense. Gibson is coming off of one of his best games of the season. A game that saw him stop 41 of 44 shots from the Avalanche. Look for him to continue with the solid performances and get the W tonight vs. a bad Coyotes team.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Holloway, Hyman) + Nurse vs. Chicago

The Oilers were mostly a huge disappointment the other night in an extremely juicy matchup. While the matchup tonight isn’t as juicy as it was Wednesday, it’s still an extremely enticing matchup vs. a bad Blackhawks team. The Blackhawks are giving up a couple of things that I really look for. Over the last 2 weeks, they’re giving up close to 16 high-danger chances per game and nearly 35 shots per game. That’s a ton of shot volume and a ton of high-danger chances. Goaltending can only get you so far.

My preference in this stack is going to be Hyman and McDavid. Hyman is playing some of the best hockey of his season right now. Over his last 5 games, Hyman has 5 goals and 7 assists for an average of well over 2 points per game. Next up will be McDavid, the best player in the game. He’s also been good, just not as good as Hyman. The 2 should be able to dominate in this cake matchup tonight. Holloway isn’t a must-play in this stack, but he opens up some salary relief as he’s just $3.5k on DK.

Seattle 1 (Donato, Eberle, Burakovsky) + Larsson vs. Columbus

We should see Elvis Merzlikins in the net for Columbus tonight and that my friends should be music to our ears. Elvis is statistically one of the worst goalies in the NHL. Over his last 8 games, he’s given up less than 3 goals just once. During that stretch of play, he’s also given up 6 goals multiple times as well as 5 goals. He’s swiss cheese and we’ll want to target that mess tonight.

While the Seattle offense is typically thought to gauge, I’m going to target this top line for them tonight. I’m mostly interested in Ryan Donato here. He’s only $3k and has been their main goal-scorer. Over his last 5 games, Donato has 4 goals. His price plus production is key to unlocking Edmonton tonight. Of course, we’ll want to pair him with either Eberle or Burakovsky so we get some correlation. My preference here would be Burakovsky as he has slightly more upside.

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby, Rust, Guentzel) + Letang vs. San Jose

We’ll call this stack the Vecchio special tonight. Pittsburgh, as inconsistent as they’ve been of late, are in a great spot tonight vs. a suspect San Jose Team. A team that will more than likely have a firesale at the deadline. San Jose has been giving up over 4 goals per game over the last couple of weeks. It’s mostly been due to horrendous goaltending as they have just an 87.5 save % over that stretch.

We’ll look to attack San Jose with the top line for Pittsburgh tonight. My main preferences here will be Crosby and Guentzel. Combined, they have 15 points over their last 5 games. With such a great matchup tonight, they should be able to add to their point totals tonight. Rust is also playable here, but he’s not a priority for me. If he fits my builds, I’ll certainly play but will not be forcing him in.

Other Stacks: Ottawa 1, Montreal 2, TB 1 and 2, WPG 1 and 2, Min 1, Buf 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Rasmus Ristolainen – $3.1k on DK
  • Owen Power – $3.4k on Dk
  • Jake Sanderson – $3.8k on DK
  • Dylan DeMelo – $3.3k on DK

Summary

Can Edmonton fail us again? I’m willing to roll the dice that they don’t in another great matchup tonight. I’ll be prioritizing getting them into my lineups tonight.

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   Tonight we have a very manageable 5-game slate of NHL DFS. We also have one of the most glaring spots for offense as we’ve seen all year. We’ll need to make the decision to chase the chalk or fade the chalk.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Ilya Sorokin ($7.5K DK/$8k FD) vs. Ottawa Senators – This game features 2 struggling teams as both teams have been playing sub-.500 hockey over the last couple of weeks. Both teams have also seen their offenses essentially disappear. I’m going to lean toward Sorokin in this matchup. The Sens are scoring just 2.17 goals per game over the last couple of weeks on around 37 shots on goal. With the volume they’re putting on the net and their measly 5.91 shooting %, this sets up nicely for Sorokin to have a high-ceiling type of game. With his price, I really like him for GPP’s tonight.

Stuart Skinner ($8.5k DK/$7.7k FD) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets– This is more of a FD play tonight as the price on DK is on the high side. That said, this is a good spot for Stuart Skinner tonight. The Blue Jackets are a lost team right now, scoring less than 3 goals per game over the last 2 weeks and winners of just 2 in 8 games. He’s been at 18 DK points or higher in 4 of his last 6 games. There’s always upside with him and tonight is no different.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman) + Nurse vs. Columbus

This stack is going to cost an arm, a leg, and the kitchen sink. This stack is also going to be extremely chalky, but for good measure. Rarely have we seen the stars align so perfectly for us with arguably the most powerful line in the league against one of the worst defenses in the league. Can this line fail tonight? Absolutely, it’s the NHL and anything can happen. That said, this is just a marvelous spot for Edmonton tonight.

The metrics are there for this line. Over their last five games, Draisaitl has 10 points, McDavid has 9, and Hyman has 12. Yes, Hyman is leading the way for this potent offense. My order of preference is going to be Hyman, Draisaitl, and McDavid. If you want to go a little cheaper, you can also add in Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as he’ll play with this trio on the top power-play unit. He’s been good recently with 7 points in his last 5. Fade at your own risk tonight, even though they’ll be chalky.

Rangers 3 (Chytil, Kaako, Lafreniere) + Schneider vs. Toronto

To counteract the massive amount of money we’re going to spend on Edmonton 1, we can look to New York 3 for some salary relief. Is this a safe play? Far, very far, from it. This is a high-risk high-reward type of line. The Rangers’ kid line has 3 guys that can play explosive hockey but can also disappear just as fast. They are also extremely cheap though, with Chytil being the most expensive at $4.2k.

If you want to go the safer route with the Rangers, their top line is also in play. Once they get their groove going, Zibanejad, Kreider, and Panarin can be as explosive of a line as any in the NHL. My preference here would be Zibanejad and Panarin as Kreider has had some weak games of late.

Seattle 2 (Wennberg, McCann, Donato) + Oleksiak vs. Vancouver

Tonight we’ll have the Seattle conundrum. We know they are in a great spot because let’s be honest, Vancouver is a mess defensively, new coach or not. They are giving up 4 goals per game over the last 2 weeks thanks to some shotty goaltending. Their save % of 86.38 is better than only Ottawa of the teams playing tonight.

I plan on prioritizing Seattle 2 over the rest of their lineup tonight. Of the 16 goals that the Kraken have scored over the last 5 games, 6 have come from this line. Both Donato and McCann have 3 goals a piece. Donato has also thrown in 3 assists for good measure. This too is a cheap line option to counteract paying up for Edmonton 1.

Other Stacks: Tor 1 and 2, Car 1, Dal 1 and 2, Van 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Mark Giordano – $3.6k on DK
  • Justin Holl – $2.6k on Dk
  • Jalen Chatfield – $3k on DK
  • Braden Schneider – $2.7k on DK

Summary

The decision we’ll have to make tonight is going to be play or fade Edmonton. And who on Edmonton do we prioritize if we go there. The Rangers/Maple Leafs is an original 6-matchup and should be fun to watch.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   Thanks to a small 2-game slate last night, today we’re blessed with a massive 11-game slate. We’ll have plenty of options today for our NHL DFS lineups.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Jake Oettinger ($8.5K DK/$9k FD) vs. Arizona Coyotes– The price is a bit high for me, especially on FD, but it’s a great spot for Jake tonight. This is one of the more lopsided matches of the night and one we’ll want to exploit with our goalie and stacks. The Coyotes just aren’t scoring right now and this screams shutout potential for Oettinger. His ceiling is a bit lower than most so we’ll want to reserve this play for Cash games. That said, if you have some cash left over, he’s also playable in GPP’s.

Darcy Kuemper ($7.5k DK/$7.6k FD) vs. Vegas Golden Knights – If you’re going to use a goalie on the cheaper end tonight, Kuemper should be your guy. He’s on a stretch right now where he’s playing very well. He’s coming off a 26-save shutout of the Coyotes but also has 4 of his last 6 starts. The matchup isn’t bad either as the Golden Knights aren’t scoring too much right now. Over the last 2 weeks, they’re scoring just 2 goals per game. Their offense has all but disappeared and this may be an exploitable spot.

NHL DFS Stacks

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Nylander, Bunting) + Rielly vs. Montreal

After a stretch of excellent goaltending, Sam Montembeault’s world came crashing down on Thursday night. With his play returning to a more normal level, we’ll look to attack him tonight in an original 6-matchup between the Maple Leafs and Canadiens.

I’ll be targeting the top line for Toronto tonight, but the second unit is also very much in play. My lineups tonight will more than likely have 100% exposure to Auston Matthews. He has immense upside in this matchup tonight and very well could score multiple goals. Over his last 5 games, he’s found the back of the net 4 times. I’ll pair him with both Nylander and Bunting tonight. Bunting is the cheaper of the 2 and if you could only go with one, I’d go with him.

Edmonton 2 (Draisaitl, Hyman, McLeod) + Barrie vs. Vancouver

Another extremely exploitable spot tonight will be Edmonton against Vancouver. Defensively, Vancouver is just a mess right now. They are 1-6 over their last 7 games and are giving up a ton of the good stuff on defense. They’re giving up well over 4.5 goals per game and over 15 high-danger chances per game. With how well the Oilers’ offense is clicking right now, this is one of my favorite spots for offense tonight.

Connor McDavid is always in play, but I’m going to lean toward the second line of Edmonton tonight as they’re playing very well right now. Draisaitl leads the way right now with 5 goals and 5 assists in his last 5 games. Hyman isn’t too far behind with the production as he has 3 goals and 5 assists in his last 5 for 8 points. McLeod is an important piece here as he’s just $2.6k on DK. He makes paying up for Draisaitl and Hyman a lot easier and he’s no slouch either as he has 3 goals in his last 5.

Philly 3 (Hayes, Laughton, Allison) + Ristolainen vs. Detroit

I’ve given 2 high-priced lines so far so I feel obligated to give at least one cheap one. We need to keep in mind that any time we play a third line, it’s high-risk. Overall, this is a good spot for Philly tonight. Detroit is giving up around 3.5 goals per game over the last couple of weeks and Philly can definitively get some pucks past Husso tonight.

The main piece in this third line that I want is Scott Laughton. He’s been playing very well of late with 2 goals and 5 assists in his last 5. He also gets time on the top power-play unit for Philly. I’ll look to pair him with ex-Ranger Kevin Hayes. Hayes has also been playing well with 3 goals in his last 5. This is a high-risk high reward line tonight and will make paying up for Edmonton 2 or Toronto 1 easier.

Other Stacks: Toronto 2, Winnipeg 1, Ottawa 1, Det 1, Columbus 1, SJ 1 and 2, Carolina 1 and 2, Stl 1 and 2, Dallas 1 (great, great spot), Seattle 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Jalen Chatfield- $2.6k on DK
  • Esa LIndell – $3.3k on Dk
  • Timothy Liljegren – $3.2k on DK
  • Connor Murphy – $3k on DK

Summary

At first glance, this looks like an amazing slate tonight. We have tons of different options and it should be a high-scoring NHL DFS night.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   A large Tuesday slate leaves us with just 4 games of NHL DFS tonight. Those 4 games however pack a massive punch and we should see a healthy amount of scoring.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Phoenix Copley ($8.2K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. San Jose Sharks – Have the Kings found their goalie? It sure seems like it. The 30-year old netminder has been playing some exceptional hockey over the last few weeks. Since December 6, Copley has played 13 games and has won 11 of them. His 2.56 GAA is the best of his career. He also gets a favorable matchup tonight vs. a Sharks team that is just 2-3-2 in their last 7 games. This is a great spot for Copley to continue his stellar play.

Jack Campbell ($8.2k DK/$7.5k FD) vs. Anaheim Ducks– This is more of a testament to the matchup than it is to the goalie. The Ducks are a mess on both sides of the ice and one we can take advantage of. The Ducks are scoring just 2 goals per game over the last 2 weeks. That’s pretty horrendous. Campbell, while not great, is a competent goalie and should be able to limit the damage tonight against this anemic offense. He’s shown upside at times this season and should show it tonight. Far from safe so he’s more of a GPP only type play.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Kostin, Yamamoto) + Nurse vs. Anaheim

Any time the Ducks play we should automatically consider stacking against them. They are one of the worst teams in the league and more often than not, give up a ton of goals. Just look at their last game where Boston put up a 7-spot vs. them. The Ducks just play too loose of a defense to have any success. Over the last 2 weeks, they’ve given up on average nearly 18 high-danger chances per game. That’s just not going to cut it.

I’ll be honest, I’m mostly focused on McDavid here. You can certainly pair him with Yamamoto or Kostin, but I wouldn’t do a full line stack here as neither of those guys has much upside. Another route you can take here is to play the Oilers’ PP and pair McDavid with Draisaitl and Hyman. Regardless, I will be finding a way to get McDavid into my lineups tonight. In this matchup against a bad Ducks team, he’ll be a man among boys and should be able to do whatever he wants on the ice.

Los Angeles 3 (Fiala, Lizotte, Vilardi) + Doughty vs. San Jose

This is probably one of the more lopsided matchups of the night. We have the Kings (54 points) vs. the Sharks (34 points), with both teams on polar opposite ends of the standings. This is a game that the Kings should dominate from the very start, especially with how bad the Sharks goaltending has been of late. They’ve given up 4 goals per game on just 27 shot attempts per game. That equates to a slate low 85% save %.

We’ll attack San Jose tonight with the third line from LA. This is the line that has been keeping the Kings afloat. They’re led by Kevin Fiala. Over his last 5 games, Fiala has 5 goals and 5 assists for an average of 2 points per game. My preference here is to pair him with Vilardi. Vilardi has 5 assists in his last 5 games and is just $3.8k on DK tonight. It’s always risky playing a third line, but these guys have been playing really well.

Toronto 2 (Tavares, Marner, Jarnkrok) + Giordano vs. Nashville

I don’t often make it a habit of picking on the Predators because they do have solid goaltending, but this second line for Toronto has been playing really well and that should continue tonight. Even though their goaltending is solid, their defense is not. The Predators are giving up more than 15 high-danger chances per game over the last 2 weeks. Goaltending can only save you for so long and against a really good Maple Leafs team, it won’t be enough.

All 3 guys on this second line have upside tonight and I more than likely will play a full stack here. This line is led by Tavares and his 4 goals over the last 5 games. Combined, these guys have 21 points in their last 5 games. The priority here if you don’t wan to go full stack is Tavares and Marner. That said, Jarnkrok offers nice savings at $2.9k tonight. He’s been productive with 5 points in his last 5.

Other Stacks: Was 1, Philly 2, Tor 1, Nash 1, LA 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Martin Fehervary – $3.0k on DK
  • Marc-Edouard Vlasic – $2.6k on Dk
  • Alexandre Carrier – $2.7k on DK

Summary

It’s a small but mighty 4-game slate tonight. We have some really clear spots for offense and also some sneaky ones. McDavid is a must play tonight IMO, and pairing him with either his line mates or power play mates will be a key to you getting a takedown.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  We have a monster of a slate tonight with 12 games on tap. While the marquis matchup of the night will be the Bruins vs. Avalanche, I’ll be looking elsewhere for offense as both teams can shut down offenses.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Karel Vejmelka ($7.3K DK/$7k FD) vs. Vancouver Canucks – Karel Vejmlelka is one of the more volatile goalies in the NHL. If you have played him in NHL DFS before, you’re well aware of the swings he’ll give you. On any given night, he can net well over 20 DK points thanks to the volume of shots he gets. He can also net you single-digit points just like he did the other night vs. the Kings. I’m more of a GPP player and he’ll be my lock for GPP’s tonight thanks to his price point and upside.

Vitek Vanecek ($8.3k DK/$8.5k FD) vs. Philadelphia Flyers – We saw some struggles out of Vanecek on Thursday night vs. Nashville as he gave up 4 goals on just 24 shots. It happens sometimes and while the Predators’ offense hadn’t really been clicking of late, they do have some firepower. I’m more than willing to go right back to the well tonight with Vanecek in a solid matchup vs. a bad Flyers team.

The Flyers are just 1-4-2 over their last 7 games and are scoring just 2.14 goals per game during those 7. They’re struggling and we’ll want to attack them with a goalie. Look for Vanecek to return to form tonight and end up being one of the top-performing goalies of the night.

NHL DFS Stacks

Rangers 2 (Chytil, Panarin, Kravtsov) + Miller vs. Chicago

The New York Rangers get a great matchup tonight vs. a BAD Chicago Blackhawks team. The Blackhawks are giving up over 5 goals per game over the last 2 weeks. That’s just awful. Even though they played last night and may have tired legs, tired legs are still better than what the Blackhawks are putting out nightly.

The Rangers put together this line last night and it paid dividends immediately as Kravtsov had a goal thanks to a helper from Panarin. This line, while risky, has immense upside. They are also dirt cheap as Kravtsov is only $2.5k on DK. Although Chytil didn’t get any points last night, he did have 5 shots on net. If this line plays like they did last night, the skies the limit for them in this one.

New Jersey 2 (Hughes, Haula, Mercher) + Graves vs. Philly

Over his last 7 games, Carter Hart has given up at least 4 goals 5 times. That is not good and that is 100% something we want to exploit with our stacks, especially with one of the top players in the NHL. Jack Hughes is one of my favorite plays of the night.

Over his last 5 games, he’s been dynamite, with 5 goals and 2 assists. His 12 goals on the season are already the second most he’s had in his career and if he can stay healthy and play a full season, he’ll obliterate his career high of 26. I’ll pair him with his cheap linemates of Haula and Mercer. Both guys have 4 assists over their 5 games and are $4k or less on DK.

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman) vs. Edmonton

I’ve given 2 cheap stacks so far, let’s go with an expensive one here. The Oilers get the luxury of facing Jake Allen and the Canadiens tonight. Although Allen had a monster night vs. Calgary on Thursday, he had games of 6 and 7 goals allowed in the month of November. The Canadiens have lapses where they forget to play D and against a potent duo of McDavid and Draisaitl, that’s a recipe for disaster.

There’s not much I need to say about McDavid and Draisaitl to sell you on the benefits of playing them tonight. They are 2 of the best players in the game and have combined for 15 points over their last 5 games. They are expensive, but there’s enough value between the Rangers and Devils stack to fit them in. Hyman also makes a nice addition to this stack. Although he hasn’t scored a goal in his last 5 games, he has an ixG of 4.51. He’s due and part of a dynamic line.

Other Stacks: SJ 1, Ott 1, Vegas 1, Det 1, NJ 1, Pitt 1 and 2, Sea 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Brett Kulak – $2.7k on DK
  • John Marino – $2.9k on Dk
  • Martin Fehervary – $2.6k on DK
  • Zach Whitecloud – $2.9k on DK

Summary

This has the makings of an extremely fun NHL DFS slate. We have some top lines in great spots. Expect a high-scoring slate tonight.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!
