Back for more? We have five games coming up on Thursday, making it the perfect night for locking in some lineups for DFS preseason on DraftKings and FanDuel. For this slate, I am going to go through each position and rank my favorite plays for Thursday night. The Thursday night games include PHI @ JAC, GB @ BAL, CIN @ WAS, NYJ @ ATL, and OAK @ ARI.

Quarterbacks

BAL – Trace McSorley – He disappointed in his preseason debut, but still played the majority of snaps at the quarterback position for the Ravens. He has running upside and the Packers allowed 47 rushing yards off scrambles versus Houston’s Joe Webb in Week 1.

WAS – Dwayne Haskins – Colt McCoy is out again, meaning Haskins will see plenty of snaps against the Bengals defense that allowed 38 points last week. Haskins struggled in his first game action but could bounce back similar to what we saw of Drew Lock in his second preseason game.

PHI – Cody Kessler – The Eagles quarterback should see extended playing game in the second preseason game following the injury to backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld. It’s a #RevengeGame for Kessler as he takes on the Jaguars ,who released him earlier in the offseason.

JAX – Gardner Minshew – The Jacksonville Jaguars do not intend on playing Nick Foles against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday. Reports out of camp this week report Minshew has responded to a rough outing last week against Baltimore with a good week of practice. He came back to have perhaps his best practice of the preseason on Sunday, and on Tuesday he completed 11 of 17 passes in a combination of 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods and threw two touchdown passes to Tre McBride. Many people are fading this game because of the lack of scoring in their first season preseason games. However, this is why its the perfect GPP play.

https://twitter.com/kracze/status/1160979368585441280

ARI – Brett Hundley – Looks like Kyler Murray is only going to play a quarter at most on Thursday and then Hundley will be taking over. He will be getting some reps in with some of the other starters like David Johnson and Christian Kirk.

https://twitter.com/joshweinfuss/status/1161732514852954112

Running Backs

GB – Dexter Williams – The Packers have said that the starters will play in the first quarter against the Ravens. Aaron Jones will see the touches here, but then it’s most likely the work will turn to Williams again. He rushed for 62 yards on 14 carries in Week 1. Jamaal Williams is still out with a hamstring injury.

https://twitter.com/TomSilverstein/status/1161329470684508162

CIN – Trayveon Williams – Left his NFL debut with a rib injury, but after scoring a touchdown. Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard will be available according to head coach Zac Taylor in Week 2. However, being that they are starters, Williams (if healthy) should play the majority of snaps later in the game. If not Jordan Ellis is a potential pivot. He had five receptions on six targets for 44 yards and touchdown.

https://twitter.com/Ben_Baby/status/1161817432954212352

WAS – Samaje Perine – He cannot afford to play poorly in the second preseason game. Perine should see his share of carries as the Redskins will most assuredly be careful with Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, and Chris Thompson. There’s also a chance more starting offensive linemen play, which could help Perine immensely. Jay Gruden also loves Perine, despite how poor he has been.

NYJ – Elijah McGuire – No player had a higher target share in Week 1 of the preseason than McGuire (28%). McGuire looks to be battling for the RB3/RB4 spot behind Le’Veon Bell and Ty Montgomery. McGuire led the team in targets (seven) and considering it’s the Falcons’ defense, which notoriously allows receptions to backs, that makes McGuire a great play. In the two preseason games they have played they have allowed three receptions to backs with an additional receiving touchdown. McGuire is also reportedly on the roster bubble, making him presumably a player the Jets are not concerned about losing to injury.

Wide Receivers

JAX – Tre McBride – He led the Jaguars in targets (4), receptions (3), and receiving yards (42) during the first week of the preseason and has been showing chemistry with quarterback Minshew. McBride runs a 4.41 and the Eagles allowed 292 receiving yards in Week 1.

https://twitter.com/Simple_dfs/status/1161655417937846272
https://twitter.com/ChrisPorterFCN/status/1161303771424493568

BAL – Miles Boykin – Nine targets in his first preseason game, four receptions for 39 yards. With Marquise Brown set to miss another preseason game Boykin is a lock for targets in Week 2.

CIN – Auden Tate – With injuries plaguing the Bengals at wide receiver Tate has made the most of his opportunities. Looked good in the first preseason game and he continues to make impressive grabs at practice. The Bengals had 46 pass attempts and only 12 rushing attempts in preseason Week 1.

WAS – Darvin Kidsy – He received seven targets in Week 1 of the preseason, good for a seventh-highest target rate (21.9%) of all receivers.

NYJ – Greg Dortch – Continues to impress at practice after a strong preseason Week 1 performance. Dortch’s game has recently risen beyond special teams. He caught 4 passes on 6 targets, one of them being a touchdown, against the Giants in his NFL debut. On Tuesday, he began getting reps as the slot receiver for the second-team offense.

Tight Ends

DAL – Cody McElroy – I am a Blake Jarwin-truther, but it looks like tight end McElroy could see a great uptick in snaps and targets. Jarwin had the second most receptions at the position in Week 1 of the preseason.

https://twitter.com/DavidMooreDMN/status/1161006189670387712

ATL – Jaeden Graham – The Falcons recently traded Eric Saubert to the Patriots for a conditional draft pick. At first glance, this would seemingly benefit Graham. He has seen five targets and led the tight end group in routes run over the past two preseason games.

ARI – Ricky Seals-Jones – Seals-Jones is listed as a third-string tight end behind Charles Clay and Maxx Williams on the Cardinals’ unofficial depth chart in advance of Thursday’s preseason game against the Raiders. Charles Clay is returning from the PUP so Seals-Jones should see playing time Thursday. He ran the third-most routes on the team in Week 1 of the preseason.

PHI – Josh Perkins – No Dallas Goedert or Richard Rodgers? No problem for Perkins with Kessler under center.

https://twitter.com/kracze/status/1161286512392228867
https://twitter.com/mike_e_kaye/status/1161280878498197506

Defenses

Cardinals – See Nathan Peterman.

Jaguars – Eagles quarterbacks could struggle early on.

8/15 DFS NFL Preseason Outlooks

There are not a lot of decorated passers to use tonight, but Cody Kessler faces his former team in a preseason revenge game and Dwayne Haskins should get extensive playing time. Whatever you do, don’t depend on Green Bay. Elijah McGuire is battling for a roster spot and may be a prime RB play tonight.

This week we’ll look back at the Northern Trust and get you ready for the upcoming BMW Championship right here on Win Daily Sports.

Recap of the Northern Trust

Coming into Sunday Reed had the lead but with Rahm right behind him, I wasn’t sure if Reed would be able to hold on. Out of the gate it seemed like Reed was doomed, bogeying several of his first holes. Rahm, in the meantime, not only caught Reed but surpassed him. I thought to myself that the tournament was over at that point. I closed the PGA app and gave my daughter my undivided attention. After a while the itch was too strong and had to peek real quick. To my surprise Reed was back on top but this time fighting off Abraham Ancer. Reed was able to hold off Ancer and win at -16. The win skyrocketed Reed into second place overall in the FedEx Cup standings.

Despite not having Reed (28th in my model) in my personal player pool, I had 15 of 16 golfers making the cut with my only miss being Fowler. He was lined up to make the cut until he double bogied the last hole to fall out. He was in my single entry lineups of course. Nonetheless with a 94% cut rate, I’ll certainly take it. This was the Top 25 going into last week.

With the field narrowed down to only 70 players lets get ready for the second leg of the FedEx Cup with the BMW Championship.

The Basics

Course: Medinah Country Club Course #3
Par: 72
Length: 7,613 yards
Greens: Bent / Tour average in size
Fairways: Bent / Narrower than tour average
Architect: Rees Jones
For a hole by hole breakdown, visit the course website right here!

Course Breakdown

The BMW Championship is held at the Medinah Country Club Course #3 in Illinois this year. The last time this course hosted a PGA event was in 2012 for the Ryder Cup. Like last week the winning score should be around -14.

Lets start by looking at golfers who perform well in average to difficult scoring settings. This week I’ll run the stats through a progression model.

With fairways less than average in width we will want to look at golfers who can place the ball in between the rough. Here are the golfers who gain the most strokes total ranging from average to hit to hard to hit fairways.

The BMW Championship will be played on Bent Greens like last week. Here are the Top 10 golfers who’ve performed the best through the progression model.

Here are the golfers that appear in each chart
Brooks Koepka
Patrick Cantlay
Jon Rahm
Justin Rose

Course History (Tournament History) / Recent Form

The BMW Championship moves around each year, with this is mind we have to look at the tournament history overall. Here are the Top 10 golfers that have performed well in this tournament over the last five years.

Here are the Top 10 golfers in recent from leading up to the BMW Championship.

McIlroy and Rose are the only to that fall into the Top 10 for both recent form and tournament history. Rose is the only golfer to be featured in the Top 10 for all five charts.

Player Fit -Back End Stats

Here is the scorecard for the BMW Championship at Medinah Country Club.

For the Par 4s we should look at the 400 – 450 yard range with five showing up on the course. Par 5 scoring should be looked at with an overall sense, with three different yardage ranges being represented. Looking over the holes it appears that bombers may have a slight advantage heading into the week so I’ll add Driving Distance to the model with Opportunities Gained always being factored in.

Opportunity Gained, Par 4 Scoring: 400 – 450, Par 5 Scoring & Driving Distance weighted evenly.

No real surprise here with who’s in the Top 10, outside of Niemann, coming in second.

Final Recap of the BMW Championship

This is the second to last week for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. This will be a no cut event (Kevin Na has WD). With this in mind I’ll look to take more risk with my player pools but play less overall. My pick for The Range last week was Justin Rose and I’m going back to the well again!

Course Setup
Average to Difficult to score
Bent Greens
Average to Difficult to hit fairways

Player Efficiencies
Opportunities Gained
Par 4 Scoring: 400 – 450 yards
Driving Distance
Par 5 Scoring

Thanks for reading and I hope this article is a great starting place for your DFS research for the BMW Championship. Look out for the Insight Sheet dropping soon. It will include my model’s Top 50 with Data Golf World Rankings, Vegas Odds, Key Stats and analysis on my personal player pool.

Scott Engel and our DFS/Weather Expert break down the day and night slates on the 8/14 MLB DFS Podcast. There are some nifty pitching values that can help you load up on hitting. We help you build the right lineups on the 8/14 MLB DFS Podcast.

8/14 MLB DFS Podcast Pitching Picks

On the early slate, Cal Quantrill stands out as one of the top bargains. Wade Miley can anchor your lineups if you want to clear some room for Coors bats. Cole Hamels presents an interesting case for usage, as does Steven Matz. But as always, Mark has one unique pick, and he has been on point with his distinctive mound choices recently.

This report will provide recommended DFS stack options for today’s six-game main slate. I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

**All plays are listed in order of preference. Please check back between 5-6 PM EST as some players can receive rest days or get limited at bats especially as we get closer to the postseason. Make sure you are watching the weather as well.

MLB DFS Stack: Seattle Mariners

vs. RHP Edwin Jackson (DET): 5.50 Runs

**Low Risk

It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to go after our favorite fantasy pitcher, Edwin Jackson. He has been downright bad this season, owning a 9.35 ERA, 8.23 FIP, and 5.69 SIERA. He is pitching for the worst team in baseball. The Tigers have a run differential of -233 so I can see this one getting out of hand quickly. Detroit also ranks 27th in terms of bullpen efficiency, so when Jackson comes out I expect the runs to continue to pour. The Mariners are not at their best, slashing to a .295 wOBA, .123 ISO, and 86 WRC+. Despite the poor hitting averages, the Mariners are poised to break out of their hitting slump with a gravy starting pitcher and bullpen matchup.

Preferred Stack: Daniel Vogelbach ($3900 FD|$4300 DK), Domingo Santana ($3300 FD|$4400 DK), Mallex Smith ($3300 FD|$4200 DK), and J.P. Crawford ($3200 FD|$3800 DK). Omar Narvaez ($2600 FD|$4200 DK) for catcher on DK. Kyle Seager ($3400 FD|$4100 DK) and Austin Nola ($2700 FD|$3700 DK) for value.

MLB DFS Stack: Atlanta Braves

vs. LHP Steven Matz (NYM): 5.50 Runs

**Moderate Risk

The Braves will likely draw a nice chunk of ownership as they have been hitting well over the last month and it is a pretty small slate. They are slashing to a .331 wOBA, .181 ISO, and 101 WRC+. Steven Matz is on the mound and has massive struggles away from home, allowing hitters to slash to a .381 wOBA, .573 SLG, and .362 OBP. He has allowed 42 earned runs and 16 home runs in 55 innings pitched during that span. He owns a 4.49 ERA, 4.72 FIP, and 4.46 SIERA. His 47% GB rate coupled with a .315 BABIP should set the Braves up nicely for some extra base hits tonight.

Preferred Plays: Freddie Freeman ($4300 FD|$5600 DK), Ozzie Albies ($3700 FD|$5200 DK), Ronald Acuna Jr. ($4500 FD|$5700 DK), and Josh Donaldson ($3500 FD|$4700 DK). Ender Inciarte ($2700 FD|$3900 DK) and Adam Duvall ($2800 FD|$4200 DK). serve as good value plays.

Other Teams I Like

MLB DFS Stack: St. Louis Cardinals

vs. RHP Brad Keller (KCR): 5.30 Runs

**Moderate/High Risk

Preferred Plays: Paul Goldschmidt ($3900 FD|$4300 DK), Matt Carpenter ($3000 FD|$3800 DK), and Marcell Ozuna ($4200 FD|$4800 DK). Dexter Fowler ($3200 FD|$3800 DK) and Tommy Edman ($3100 FD|$4200 DK).

MLB Stack: Los Angeles Dodgers

vs. RHP Elieser Hernandez (MIA): 5.25 Runs

**Low Risk

Preferred Plays: Max Muncy ($3700 FD|$5100 DK), Cody Bellinger ($4600 FD|$5500 DK), Joc Pederson ($3200 FD|$4500 DK), and Corey Seager ($3300 FD|$4100 DK).

Pitching

  1. Clayton Kershaw LHP (LAD): 2.70 Runs
  2. Marco Gonzales LHP (SEA): 4.40 Runs
  3. Aaron Nola RHP (PHI): 4.45 Runs

This report will provide recommended DFS stack options for today’s eight-game main slate. I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

**All plays are listed in order of preference. Please check back between 5-6 PM EST as some players can receive rest days or get limited at bats especially as we get closer to the postseason. Make sure you are watching the weather as well.

MLB Stack: Colorado Rockies

vs. RHP Merrill Kelly (ARI): 7.50 Runs

**Low Risk

I’m going to get the Coors chalk out of the way to start things off. We have Merrill Kelly taking on the Rockies at home tonight. Kelly owns a 4.52 ERA, 4.61 FIP, and 4.82 SIERA. Kelly is allowing the second highest hard contact rate on the slate at 42.4% and 1.51 HR/9. He tends to struggle the most on the road, allowing righties to slash to a .335 wOBA, .479 SLG, and .325 OBP. He has allowed 28 earned runs in 36 innings pitched against them. Rockies batters are slashing to a .321 wOBA, .171 ISO, and 81 WRC+ over the last month and they get the highest implied run total here tonight.

Preferred Stack: Trevor Story ($4600 FD|$5600 DK), Nolan Arenado ($4500 FD|$5400 DK), Charlie Blackmon ($4700 FD|$5700 DK), and Ryan McMahon ($3200 FD|$4200 DK). Yonathon Daza ($2600 FD|$3200 DK) and Raimel Tapia ($3100 FD|$4100 DK) make excellent value plays.

MLB Stack: Arizona Diamondbacks

vs. RHP Peter Lambert (COL): 6.50 Runs

**Low Risk

Arizona hasn’t been as hot as you’d like them to be coming into tonight’s matchup, slashing to a .325 wOBA, .167 ISO, and 97 WRC+. Despite this, the Diamondbacks get a gravy matchup against Peter Lambert, who struggles immensely at home. He is allowing batters to slash to a .399 wOBA, .626 SLG, and .358 OBP. He has allowed 24 earned runs and nine home runs in 29 innings pitched. Colorado/Arizona will be very popular, so get creative in tournaments. Also looks like some pricing we can take advantage of on FanDuel, as Arizona bats are underpriced there.

Preferred Plays: Christian Walker ($3600 FD|$4900 DK), Eduardo Escobar ($4200 FD|$5500 DK), Ketel Marte ($4400 FD|$5500 DK), and David Peralta ($3800 FD|$4900 DK). Jake Lamb ($3100 FD|$4300 DK), Jarrod Dyson ($3200 FD|$5300 DK), and Carson Kelly ($3300 FD|$5200 DK). serve as good value plays.

Other Teams I Like

MLB Stack: Cincinnati Reds

vs. RHP Erick Fedde (WSH): 5.30 Runs

**Moderate Risk

Preferred Plays: Josh VanMeter ($2600 FD|$3700 DK), Jesse Winker ($3000 FD|$3800 DK), Joey Votto ($3400 FD|$3800 DK), and Eugenio Suarez ($4100 FD|$4500 DK). Aristicles Aquino ($3900 FD|$4400 DK)

MLB Stack: Toronto Blue Jays

vs. RHP Ariel Jurado (TEX): 5.50 Runs

**Moderate Risk

Preferred Plays: Bo Bichette ($4100 FD|$4500 DK), Randal Grichuk ($3000 FD|$3800 DK), Vlad Guererro Jr. ($3600 FD|$4200 DK), and Derek Fisher ($2600 FD|$3900 DK).

MLB Stack: Los Angeles Angels

vs. RHP Mitch Keller (PIT): 5.25 Runs

**Moderate Risk

Preferred Plays: Mike Trout ($4900 FD|$5400 DK), Justin Upton ($3300 FD|$3600 DK), Shohei Ohtani ($3700 FD|$4300 DK), and Kole Calhoun ($3200 FD|$3800 DK). David Fletcher ($2900 FD|$3300 DK) for value.

Pitching

  1. Zack Greinke RHP (HOU): 3.20 Runs
  2. Anthony DeSclafani RHP (CIN): 5.00 Runs
  3. Joey Lucchesi LHP (SDP): 3.82 Runs
