Daily Fantasy Sports

There was a 15 game slate on Wednesday June 5th. I will go into detail on some players who performed really well and a couple who underachieved. Points and salaries are based on DraftKings.

Winners

Jason Vargas ($7,200)

JasonVargas ($7,200)

Jason Vargas and the New York Metshosted the Giants on Wednesday and Vargas pitched an impressive complete game.He gave up only five hits and one walk over nine innings. He struck out eight.Vargas racked up 41.65 fantasy points. Vargas now has a 3.57 ERA and a WHIP of1.35. The strikeout numbers were good and raised his K/9 to 7.35 on the year.

Vargas’Outlook

Vargas will get his next chance tostart on Monday, June 10th against the New York Yankees. The Yankees have a Top10 offense this year and average 5.3 runs per game. They also have a teambatting average of .258, which ranks eighth in the league. I will be fadingVargas in this one as it will be played at Yankee Stadium.

BrianAnderson ($3,700)

Anderson and the Marlins once againtook it to the Brewers and a lot of the damage came early. Anderson went3-for-4 with a home run while batting in the three spot. He added a double andalso took a walk. Anderson scored two times and added four RBI. He scored 37fantasy points. Anderson’s batting average is now .240 and he has an OPS ofonly .690. He has played better lately and has a batting average of .357 inJune.

Anderson’sOutlook

Anderson and the Marlins have onemore game against the Brewers Thursday. They will face Brandon Woodruff, who haspitched pretty well this year. He has an ERA under four and a WHIP of 1.20. TheMarlins offense has been good the first two games of the series but expect someregression in this game. I will be fading Anderson Thursday.

ChrisSale ($10,600)

Sale and the Red Sox were bigfavorites against the Royals on Wednesday and dominated the game, winning 8-0.Sale was impressive and pitched a complete game three hitter. He racked up 12strikeouts and scored 51.45 fantasy points, tops on the night. Sale improved to2-7 on the year. He now has an ERA of 3.84 and an impressive WHIP of exactly 1.00.His K/9 is also looking great at 12.81.

Sale’sOutlook

Sale’s next projected start is onMonday, June 10th at home against the Texas Rangers. The Rangers offense hasbeen very good this year and averages 5.76 runs per game. They have a very goodteam batting average of .257. One good thing in this matchup is that theRangers have the sixth most strikeouts in the league. Sale’s ERA is not greatso far, but his strikeout numbers will keep him as an elite fantasy pitcher forthe remainder of the year.

Losers

JakeArrieta ($8,000)

Arrieta and the Phillies played thePadres in San Diego and won 7-5. The win did not get credited to Arrieta as hestruggled badly in this one. He was only able to get through 4.2 innings andgave up five earned runs on seven hits and five walks. Arrieta gave up two homeruns to the Padres. He was also only able to strike out three. Arrieta now hasa 4.29 ERA to go with a WHIP of 1.43. His K/9 is also low this year at 7.35.This was Arrieta’s second straight game giving up five earned and three homeruns.

Arrieta’sOutlook

Arrieta’s next projected start willcome against the Diamondbacks at home on June 11th. The Diamondbacks have agood offense this year and average over five runs per game with a team battingaverage of .257. Both of these stats are in the Top 10 in the league. Arrietahas scuffled recently and I do not see this as a spot for him to bounce back.Hold off for another start and revisit him in his next outing.

HowieKendrick ($5,800)

Kendrick and the Washington Nationalshosted the White Sox on Wednesday. They were able to get the win 6-4, but noneof the offense was because of Kendrick. He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout andscored zero fantasy points. Kendrick is having a really good year and has abatting average of .322 with an OPS of .953. He has hit 10 home runs to go withnine doubles and 35 RBI.

Kendrick’sOutlook

The Washington Nationals now head toSan Diego for a four game series against the Padres. The Padres have the 10thranked team ERA in the Majors at 4.16. They allow a team batting average of.241, which also ranks 10th in the league. The Padres have struggled lately andhave a team ERA of 5.94 over their last six games. Kendrick has been very solidthis year and this looks to have been an outlier game Wednesday. RosterKendrick moving forward as he should get back to putting together a good season.

InjuryReport

Lorenzo Cain left Wednesday’s game in the ninth after fouling a ball offhis foot. Check his status for Thursday before adding him to your roster.

Jonathan Villar left the game Wednesday with a thumb issue. Check back foran update on Villar’s status Thursday.

Jason Vargas and the New York Mets hosted the Giants on Wednesday and Vargas pitched an impressive full game. He gave up only five hits and one walk over nine innings. He struck out eight. Vargas racked up 41.65 fantasy points for you if you selected him. Vargas now has a 3.57 ERA and a WHIP of 1.35. The strikeout numbers were good for him and raised his K/9 to 7.35 on the year.

Vargas’ Outlook

Vargas will get his next chance to start on Monday, June 10th against the New York Yankees. The Yankees have had a Top 10 offense this year and average 5.3 runs per game. They also have a team batting average of .258, which ranks eighth in the league. He added a double and also took a walk. Anderson scored two times and added four RBI. He scored 37 fantasy points. Anderson’s batting average is now .240 and he has an OPS of only .690. He has played better lately and has a batting average of .357 in June.

Anderson’s Outlook

Anderson and the Marlins have one more game against the Brewers Thursday. They will face Brandon Woodruff and as I said in Wednesday’s article, Woodruff has pitched pretty well this year. He has an ERA under four and a WHIP of 1.20. The Marlins offense has been good the first two games of the series but expect some regression in this game. I will be fading Anderson in this spot Thursday.

Chris Sale ($10,600)

He racked up 12 strikeouts and scored 51.45 fantasy points, tops on the night. Sale improved to 2-7 on the year. He now has an ERA of 3.84 and an impressive WHIP of exactly one. They have a very good team batting average of .257 as well. One good thing in this matchup is that the Rangers have the sixth most strikeouts in the league. Sale’s ERA is not great so far but his strikeout numbers will keep him as an elite fantasy pitcher for the remainder of the year, no matter who the opponent is.

There was a 15 game slate on Tuesday June 4th. I will be going into detail on some players who performed really well and a couple who underachieved. Points and salaries are based on DraftKings.

Winners

Francisco Lindor ($4,900)

Lindor and the Indians played host to the Twins, who currently have the best record in baseball. The Indians got the win, 5-2, and Lindor was a big part of that. He went 3-for-3 and hit two home runs, while batting in the leadoff spot. Lindor added in a double and walk to go with his three RBI and two runs scored. He gave his owners 37 fantasy points. Lindor has had a good year so far and his batting average is now at .306 and his OPS raised to .915. He has hit 10 home runs to go with 23 RBI. After not playing for the first 19 games of the year, Lindor started slow but has really heated up lately. He had a May batting average of .391 and in his three games in June, he is 7-for-11 with two home runs and two doubles.

Lindor’s Outlook

Lindor and the Indians have two more games against the Twins at home. The Twins have been the best team in MLB this year and are doing it both on the mound and at the plate. Along with scoring more runs than any other team, they have a Top 10 team ERA, which is currently at 3.88. They have fallen back to earth in their last five though, and have a team ERA of 5.52 and an opposing batting average of .264 over that span. This could be the time when averages work themselves out and the Indians take advantage of a sliding Twins’ pitching staff. I will look to employ Lindor in this spot because of this trend and his recent hot streak.

Garrett Cooper ($4,100)

Cooper and the Miami Marlins absolutely demolished the Brewers at Miller Park on Tuesday. He was one of three Marlins hitter to score over 20 points as the Marlins won 16-0. Cooper went 4-for-5 and hit a home run. He led the fantasy scoring in this game with 33 points. He had two RBI, four runs scored, and added a walk. Cooper did not play much early in the year but since becoming a regular in the Marlins’ lineup, he has produced. He has a batting average of .289 to go with an OPS of .850. He has appeared in 24 games to this point.

Cooper’s Outlook

Cooper and the Marlins will stay in Milwaukee for two more games. Brewers’ pitching has struggled recently and will have Jimmy Nelson on the mound for the first time in nearly two years Wednesday. Cooper will then face Brandon Woodruff on Thursday. Nelson has pitched well on his rehab assignment and Woodruff has also pitched well this year. They are not the problem with the Brewers pitching staff. I expect the Brewers to pitch better these next two games but that does not count Cooper out completely. His price is still low enough that he can be a good salary relief option with upside.

Pedro Severino ($3,800)

The Orioles had a big game offensively on Tuesday and Severino was a huge factor, as he hit three homers in the game. Severino and Dwight Smith Jr. teamed up in the 4-5 spots in the order and put up big numbers. Severino scored 44 fantasy points as Smith Jr. added an impressive 36 himself. Severino’s home runs came as a bit of a surprise as he had only hit two so far this year. His batting average is now at .273 and his OPS sits at .834.

Severino’s Outlook

The Orioles are hosted by the Texas Rangers for two more games on Wednesday and Thursday. Texas’ pitching staff has not been great so far and they have a team ERA of 4.90. Although they have not been great, I will not be chasing points with Severino. He has had an okay year, but he hit three dingers Tuesday, after having only six in his career going into that game. He is also a career .211 hitter and even with him being a young player on the upswing, I expect him to dip back down closer to the .230 mark than his current .273.

Losers

Masahiro Tanaka ($9,300)

Tanaka and the New York Yankees took the loss on the road to the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday. Tanaka was not horrible but wasn’t good either and was only able to get two strikeouts over six innings. He allowed four earned runs over six innings while allowing six hits and two home runs. If you paid the $9,300 for Tanaka, you were disappointed in the strikeout numbers. He only gave his owners 4.1 fantasy points. Tanaka has pitched pretty well this year and has an ERA of 3.42 and a WHIP of 1.19. His K/9 dropped to 7.90 following the disappointing start. He had struck out 35 over his last 35.1 innings going into Tuesday.

Tanaka’s Outlook

The Yankees’ Opening Day starter will get his next start on June 9th in Cleveland against the Indians. The Indians’ offense has really struggled to score this year and averages under four runs per game. Their numbers have been nearly identical on the road and home. Tuesday was Tanaka’s second poor start in a row but he had a good run before that, giving up five or fewer hits in the five starts going into Tuesday. Look for Tanaka to bounce back and hopefully get the strikeout numbers back up, as the Indians average 8.71 Ks per game.

Mike Moustakas ($5,400)

The Brewers and Marlins combined for 16 runs Tuesday, which you might think led to a big day for Moose, but the bad part was that the Brewers scored none of those runs and only had six hits. Moustakas went 0-for-4 and struck out twice. Moustakas has had a good year with solid power numbers, so far. He has a batting average of .263 with an OPS of .880. He has hit 16 home runs with 37 RBI.

Moustakas’ Outlook

The Brewers host the Marlins at Miller Park for two more games. Miami’s pitching staff has been average this year and had a team ERA of 4.25 in the month of May. Their opposing batting average was just outside the Top 10 of the league in May at .246. Moustakas has been very consistent this year so I expect him to bounce back in this series and add to his good year.

Injury Report

Jimmy Nelson of the Brewers returns to the big leagues on Wednesday. He will be worth a look at a big discount against the Marlins.

Andrew McCutchen has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will be out for the Season.

There was a 10-game slate on Thursday May 30th. The game between the Red Sox and Yankees was postponed. I will highlight a few players who performed really well and some who underachieved. Points and salaries are based on DraftKings.

Winners

Mike Moustakas ($4,800)

Moustakas and the Brewers beat the Pirates in Pittsburgh 11-5 on Thursday and Moose had a monster game. Batting fourth in the Brewers’ lineup, Moustakas went 4-for-6 with two home runs. He racked up four RBI and scored two runs. This added up to 38 points and the top spot on the day. Moustakas has played well for the Brewers. He now has a batting average of .269 with an OPS of .889. Moustakas has 15 home runs and 36 RBI. He has 11 hits over his last seven games and has been hitting well since an early May slump.

Moustakas’ Outlook

The Brewers have three more games left in their series against the Pirates. Pittsburgh’s pitching staff has not had a great year and has been even worse at home. They have a team ERA of 5.42, which ranks 26th in home ERAs this year. They also allow an opposing team batting average of .268 at home. Moustakas has had a good year and a few big games in the last couple weeks. I will look for Moose to continue this trend against a shaky Pirates rotation.

Hyun-Jin Ryu ($11,200)

Ryu and the Dodgers faced the Mets Thursday and Ryu pitched 7.2 shutout innings while taking the win. He gave up four hits and walked one while striking out seven. Ryu continued his hot season and improved to 8-1. He has been arguably the best pitcher in baseball this year as his ERA now sits at 1.48 and his WHIP is incredibly at 0.81. His strikeout numbers are not eye- popping, with a K/9 of 8.51, but he has not needed them to be a top fantasy pitcher. Ryu has now started 11 games this year and has not given up more than two earned runs in any of them! This is Ryu’s fifth straight game in which he took the win.

Ryu’s Outlook

Ryu’s next projected start will come on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona’s offense has been good this year and averages 5.16 runs per game, ranking in the Top 10. They also have a Top 5 team batting average of .259. Even with these great offensive numbers I will continue to try and roster Ryu. If anything, it will be a good thing having Ryu face a quality offense as it will cause his ownership to drop some. I will continue to target Ryu until he shows some signs of slowing down.

David Dahl ($4,200)

Dahl and the Colorado Rockies hosted the Diamondbacks on Thursday. The Rockies won a high scoring game, 11-10. Dahl was the top scoring player in the game as he went 4-for-5 with a home run. He added three singles and a walk, while scoring twice and accounting for two RBI. Dahl has had a really good start to the year and has a batting average of .319 to go with his OPS of .884. He has hit five home runs and has 18 RBI. He has now recorded a hit in eight of his last nine games. Dahl is batting .345 at home and .260 on the road. As expected with the Rockies, he is a much better fantasy choice while playing at home.

Dahl’s Outlook

The Rockies start a three-game series at home against the Blue Jays on Friday. Toronto has an average pitching staff this year with a team ERA of 4.32 and an opposing batting average of .248. I expect them to struggle pitching in Colorado, as most do. Dahl and all the Rockies will cost a bit more at home than on the road, but I see the Blue Jays as a pitching staff to target. In their last seven games, they have given up an opposing batting average of .326 and have a team ERA of 6.64. The Rockies could be a good stack option this series and Dahl should be included in that.

Losers

Martin Perez ($9,000)

Perez and the Twins played against the Tampa Bay Rays on the road Thursday and lost 14-3. Perez did not pitch well and was not able to get through three innings. He gave up six earned runs on six hits while walking two. He struck out three while pitching only 2.2 innings. Perez has pitched much better this year than he showed Thursday. He now has an ERA of 3.71 and a WHIP of 1.40. He dropped to 7-2 on the year. His K/9 is now just under one strikeout per inning. Perez went into Thursday’s game allowing just seven earned runs in his last six starts.

Perez’s Outlook

Perez’s next projected start will come on the road against the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland has had one of the worst offenses in the league this year and barely averages four runs per game. They have a team batting average of only .227. Perez has pitched well and his recent bad start seems to be a minor blip in a good year so far. I will be looking for Perez to bounce back in his next start against a bad offense.

Hunter Pence ($5,500)

Hunter Pence and the Rangers hosted the Royals and lost on Thursday, 4-2. Pence wasn’t able to get anything going and finished the day 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Pence has been having a really big year so far and has a batting average of .295 with an OPS of .965. He has hit 11 home runs to go with his 39 RBI. Pence came into this game with a hot bat. He had a multi-hit game in six of his last 11 games. His May numbers are great with a slash line of .304/.356/.722.

Pence’s Outlook

The Rangers host the Royals for three more games. Kansas City shut down the Rangers offense on Thursday but I do not expect that to be the case all series. The Royals have the second worst team ERA on the year at 5.24. They also allow an opposing batting average of .270, which ranks them in the bottom part of the league. Pence has played well lately and the Royals have pitched badly all year. This adds up to a bounce-back spot for Pence and the Rangers.

Injury Report

Hunter Dozier left in the fifth inning with chest tightness and is considered day-to-day.

Tommy Pham also left his game in the fifth inning with a right lower leg cramp. He will be evaluated further but it is not expected to keep him out long.

Here are thetop teams to stack for MLB’s May 30th main slate action:

Cleveland Indians

The White Sox’s Manny Banuelos is a pitcher that we will want to get some exposure against. The left-handed pitcher has struggled this season as evidenced by his extremely high 7.71 ERA. Banuelos has a 5.07 SIERA and a 5.02 xFIP. The Chicago starter also is serving up 2.57 HR/9, making the Indians look like an excellent stacking option for Thursday. Admittedly the Indians’ numbers against lefties will leave something to be desired here but nonetheless this is still a matchup they should take advantage of. That is mainly due to Banuelos’ lack of success against right-handed batters. He is allowing a .323/.409/.606 slash line to righty bats in 2019.

The obvious right-handed Indians are in play, of course. Carlos Santana (FanDuel: $3,600 DraftKings: $4,500), Jose Ramirez (FanDuel: $3,100 DraftKings: $3,900) and Francisco Lindor (FanDuel: $3,700 DraftKings: $4,800) will be the big names to focus on.

But some lesser known pieces maybe the real key to the Indians’ stack. Jordan Luplow (FanDuel: $3,100 DraftKings: $4,100) and Robert Perez (FanDuel: $2,500 DraftKings: $3,700) but have ISOs greater than .260 against left-handed pitching. Not only are they in position to take advantage of the matchup, but they also will provide some salary relief to your DFS lineups.

Boston Red Sox

The Yankees’J.A. Happ has struggled with the long ball this season. He is allowing 2.16HR/9, so we are going to want some the Red Sox hitters in this one.

You willwant to start with lefty killer J.D. Martinez (FanDuel: $4,300 DraftKings: $5,200).Martinez has a .500 ISO and a .512 wOBA against southpaws this season. OtherBoston bats to pick from include Xander Bogaerts (FanDuel: $3,800 DraftKings: $5,000),Michael Chavis (FanDuel: $3,600 DraftKings: $5,100), Sandy Leon (FanDuel: $2,200DraftKings: $3,100) and Christian Vazquez (FanDuel: $2,400 DraftKings: $4,100).These Red Sox batters all have .300 or better ISOs versus lefties in 2019.

Texas Rangers

The Royals’ Jakob Junis is getting hit hard this season. He is allowing a 42.2% hard contact rate. The hard contact has resulted in some serious damage done against Junis, as he has a 4.64 SIERA. Look for that damage to continue on Thursday. The Rangers have punished right-handed pitching all season. As an offense they have a .214 ISO and a .349 wOBA versus righties.

When building your Texas lineups, you want to focus on the lefties first. Junis is allowing a .361 wOBA as well as 42.9% hard contact rate to left-handed batters. So, of course you are going to start the build with Joey Gallo (FanDuel: $4,300 DraftKings: $5,600). The slugger has a .333 ISO and a .434 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.

You will also want to get some Nomar Mazara (FanDuel: $3,500 DraftKings: $4,400) and Hunter Pence (FanDuel: $4,100 DraftKings: $5,500) in your lineups as they both are lefty batters with ISOs over .300 versus right-handed pitching.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers’ offense is in position to be the late-night hammer that your DFS lineups need to push across the money line.

The Mets’ JasonVargas checks a lot of the boxes in terms of pitchers you like to stackagainst. First off, he has a 5.49 SIERA and a 5.79 xFIP. He also is allowingflyballs at a rate of 43.5%, owns a 49% hard contact rate and has a below leagueaverage 17% K rate. Vargas’ velocity is also low compared to the rest of theleague. His fastball has averaged 85.5 MPH in 2019.

The Dodgers’ stack, of course, begins with Cody Bellinger (FanDuel: $4,800 DraftKings: $5,800). The MVP frontrunner has crushed left-handed pitching this season with a .358 ISO and a .459 wOBA. Bellinger also owns a .377/.438/.770 slash line and a 1.209 OPS against finesse pitchers, like Vargas is.

Other Dodgers to consider in this stack are Max Muncy (FanDuel: $3,500 DraftKings: $4,700), Chris Taylor (FanDuel: $2,600 DraftKings: $3,400), Enrique Hernandez (FanDuel: $3,200 DraftKings: $3,700), Justin Turner (FanDuel: $3,400 DraftKings: $4,200) and Alex Verdugo (FanDuel: $2,800 DraftKings: $4,100). These five Dodgers’ hitters all have ISOs in the .200s versus southpaws this season.

Good luckand happy stacking!

There was a 14 game slate on Wednesday May 29th. I will go into detail on some players who performed really well and a couple who underachieved. Points and salaries are based on DraftKings.

Winners

Carlos Santana ($4,900)

Carlos Santana and the Indians played in Boston against the Red Sox on Wednesday and got the win in a high scoring game, 14-9. Santana was 3-for-4 and was a single away from hitting for the cycle. He added two walks, four runs scored, and five RBI. He was good for 45 fantasy points and the top scorer on the day. Santana has had a good year to this point and is batting .284 with an OPS of .922. He has hit 10 home runs and has 34 RBI. He has 38 strikeouts to go with 40 walks. Santana busted out of a mini-slump, as he had only three hits in his last last six games.

Santana’s Outlook

The Indians have a four game series with the Chicago White Sox on the road, starting Thursday. The White Sox pitching staff has struggled this year. They have a team ERA of 5.03 and allow an opposing batting average of .260. Although Santana has struggled in May, with a batting average of .231, this could be a spot to build on his big game. I will be looking to roster Santana as a high upside player in this series against the White Sox.

Anibal Sanchez ($7,200)

Anibal Sanchez of the Washington Nationals got the win on Wednesday over the Braves. In his first start since coming off the IL, Sanchez pitched a gem, allowing only two base runners over six innings. He gave up one hit and one walk while striking out seven. He gave his owners 30.30 fantasy points. Sanchez has not had great numbers so far this year and has an ERA of 4.47 with a WHIP of 1.51. Wednesday was his first win of the year and he now has a record of 1-6. He has a K/9 of nearly nine.

Sanchez’s Outlook

Sanchez’s next projected start will come against the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox have struggled scoring runs this year while having a decent team batting average. They score only 4.15 runs per game, ranking them 23rd in the league, but they have a team batting average of .250, which ranks 14th. Sanchez has not been a quality starter overall this year and has one good start coming off the IL. I will not get me back on the bandwagon, even against a vulnerable offense. Sanchez took losses in five straight games before being sent to the IL. I am staying away for now.

Juan Soto ($5,000)

Soto was a big reason the Nationals won big on Wednesday, accounting for six runs. He went 2-for-4 with a home run. He scored four times while adding two RBI. Soto also struck out twice and walked twice. His owners were rewarded with 29 fantasy points. Soto has had a good year so far and has been especially productive lately. He has batting average of .291 while hitting .349 in the month of May. His OPS numbers reflect the same as his at.892/988. Thiswas Soto’s 13th straight game with a hit and he had seven multi-hit games over that span.

Soto’s Outlook

The Nationals start a three game series in Cincinatti on Friday. The Reds have had a good pitching staff so far this year but have been a little more vulnerable at home than on the road. They have a home team ERA of 3.68 while giving up an opposing batting average of .230. The Reds have scuffled the last week as well, and have a team ERA of 5.90 over their last seven games. Soto has been one of the hottest hitters in the league this month and I expect that to continue in this series and moving forward. He is a young star in the making.

Losers

Kevin Gausman ($8,300)

The Braves were blown out by the Nationals on Wednesday and it was a long first inning for Gausman. He was only able to get through one inning, giving up eight earned runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out one. He scored -17.75 fantasy points and surely ruined any chances to get in the money for your team. Gausman has not had a good start tand fell to 2-4 after this loss. His ERA is now at 5.56 and his WHIP is 1.38. Gausman’s K/9 is at 9.33. He has not gotten through more than six innings since April 17th.

Gausman’s Outlook

Gausman’s next projected start is on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates offense has struggled this year but has been better in the month of May. They are averaging 4.69 runs per game in May with a team batting average .of 264. Gausman has not looked good this year and with Pittsburgh finding a bit of a rhythm lately, I will be staying away from Gausman in this spot. I will also most likely be staying away from him in DraftKings for the foreseeable future.

Eduardo Escobar ($5,700)

Escobar and the Diamondbacks took the loss on the road to the Rockies Wednesday. Escobar was a big disappointment. In a plus matchup playing at Coors Field, Escobar went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts. He struck out in the top of the ninth for the last out of the game. Escobar has had a good year to this point and was really hot coming into this game. He came into this one on a seven game hit streak, with 12 hits over that span. His batting average is now at .283 and his OPS is at .894.

Escobar’s Outlook

The Diamondbacks have a day game against the Rockies on Thursday. I expect Escobar to slot right back into the three spot in the order and get back on track. The Rockies pitching staff, at home, has a team ERA of 6.22. They allow an opposing batting average of .297 at home. Their opponent’s OPS is also high at home, at .854. These numbers are all last or second to last in the league. Roster Escobar Thursday, and watch the points come in.

Injury Report

Mitch Moreland has been placed on the 10-day IL with a lower back strain.

Carlos Correa is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured rib. He is on the IL along with teammates George Springer and Jose Altuve.

There was a 15 game slate on Tuesday May 28th. I will go into detail on some players who performed really well and some who underachieved. Points and salaries are based on DraftKings.

Winners

Derek Dietrich ($4,400)

Dietrich and the Reds beat the Pirates at home 11-6 on Tuesday. Dietrich went 3-for-4 and hit three home runs. This went along with six RBI and three runs scored. He put up 48 fantasy points. Dietrich has had a good season this year with really impressive power numbers. He has a batting average of .254 to go with his OPS of 1.085. He has 17 home runs and 35 RBI. Dietrich has hit nine home runs in just 60 at bats in the month of May.

Dietrich’s Outlook

The Reds host the Pirates for one more game before the Nationals visit Cincinnati. Dietrich will be a popular play on Wednesday after his monster day but I will be looking at his upcoming matchup with the Nationals. The Nationals pitching staff has struggled so far this year and they have a team ERA of 4.89. They also allow an opposing batting average of .255. Both of these stats rank in the 20’s in the league. I will be looking to roster Dietrich in this series and moving forward.

Lucas Giolito ($9,900)

Giolito and the Chicago White Sox played at home against the Royals on Tuesday. Giolito was highlighted in our pitching writeup for Tuesday and came through in a big way. He pitched eight full innings and got the win. Giolito gave up three earned runs on three hits and one walk. He was able to get 10 strikeouts against the Royals lineup. Giolito was the top scoring pitcher on Tuesday’s slate and scored 33 fantasy points. He improved to 7-1 on the year. Giolito has had a great season and has an ERA of 2.85 and a WHIP of 0.98. His K/9 is currently at 10.35. He has been especially good lately and this is his fifth straight game with a win.

Giolito’s Outlook

Giolito’s next projected start will come against the Cleveland Indians at home. Cleveland’s offense has been horrible this year and they average only 3.83 runs per game. They have a team batting average of .222. Both stats rank in the Bottom Five in the league. They have been equally as bad in the month of May and have averaged 3.76 runs this month. This should be a great spot to ride Giolito’s hot hand, as the Indians also strike out at a decent rate to go with their run scoring struggles. Roster him with confidence moving forward even at his high price tag.

Alex Bregman ($4,800)

Houston took down the Chicago Cubs on the road 9-6 and Bregman led the way for the Astros. Bregman went 2-for-4 with two home runs and a walk. He scored three runs and had three RBI. He scored 34 fantasy points for anyone who rostered him Tuesday. Bregman has been great this year again and has a batting average of .271 and an OPS of .968. He has hit 17 home runs and has 38 RBI. He has also taken 39 walks while striking out only 36 times.

Bregman’s Outlook

Bregman and the Astros have one more game against the Cubs before heading to Oakland for a three game stand on the road. Kyle Hendricks will pitch for the Cubs Wednesday and he has struggled in his last couple of outings. He has given up 11 runs over 11.2 innings in his last two starts. I will try and fit Bregman in my lineups on Wednesday. Looking forward to the series with the Athletics, I like his chances to continue his success. Oakland has had decent success pitching this year and has a team ERA of 4.03 and an opposing batting average of .238. Even with the early success for the A’s pitching staff, I like Bregman’s upside in this series.

Losers

Jon Lester ($7,500)

Lester faced off against the Astros on Tuesday and took the loss as the Cubs fell 9-6. Lester gave up seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks. He also gave up a home run and was able to get through 5.2 innings. He also was only able to get three strikeouts. Lester had -2.45 fantasy points. His record dropped to 3-4 after Tuesday’s loss. His ERA is currently at 3.59 and his WHIP is at 1.39. He started the season out pretty well but has dropped off significantly lately. He has given up 42 hits in just his last five starts.

Lester’s Outlook

Lester’s next projected start will come against the Angels at home on June 3rd. The Angels’ offense has been average this year. They score 4.74 runs per game and have a team batting average of .254. They do avoid the strikeout really well this year and average only 6.23 strikeouts per game. This is by far the lowest rate in the league. With Lester’s recent struggles and the Angels’ strikeout numbers, I will be fading him in this one. His ceiling is low and so is his floor.

Willson Contreras ($5,100)

Contreras faced Corbin Martin and the Astros Tuesday. Contreras went 0-for-5 and struck out three times. He has had a really good start to the year and has a batting average of .302 and a WHIP of .984. Contreras has hit 12 home runs and has 32 RBI. He has struck out 49 times in 49 games and has only walked 22 times. Contreras has struggled some in his last week and is 5-for-20 with one home run over that time span.

Contreras’ Outlook

Contreras and the Cubs have one more game against the Astros before heading to St Louis for a three game series with the Cardinals. The Cubs will face Wade Miley, who has pitched well this season. Miley has an ERA of 3.32 and is 5-2. He then faces the Cardinals, who have a team ERA of 4.39 and allow an opposing batting average of .241, both near the league average. Contreras’ numbers this year are much better than his career numbers. I expect some regression moving forward and with Contreras’ steep salary, I will be fading him until that salary dips back down.

Injury Report

Carlos Correa was not in the lineup Tuesday because of sore ribs. He saw a doctor for further tests.

Michael Pineda was placed on the 10-day IL with knee tendinitis.
