Win Daily NHL DFS

Welcome back for another installment of the Friday Night Forecheck here at Win Daily Sports! After a somewhat brutal schedule this week, we are finally given a decent, yet small, four game slate. Since yesterday was a massive 13 game slate, tonight will feature five of the eight teams playing on the second leg of a back-to-back. We have a couple of very interesting spots tonight, and we will try to nail down the best spots on the slate. Good luck!

Goalies

Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins: The goalie spot tonight looks pretty rough, and it is going to be tough to find the top play. Surprisingly, the Pitt/Vegas game looks to be the lowest scoring on the slate, based on the way that both teams are playing recently. Pittsburgh should win this game, as Vegas has been struggling, and is also pretty banged up. Their lineup is far from their normal, so Jarry looks like a decent play tonight.

High Risk GPP Goalie Pick – Thatcher Demko – Vancouver Canucks: This is the only other goalie that looks interesting tonight, and that’s a stretch! The Canucks host the Caps tonight, who have been playing well and getting healthy. This is a risky, risky play, but on home ice, it’s worth a look. The shot volume should be there, and if Demko can keep them in check, this could be a sneaky good play.

Other Goalie Notes: With all but two teams on the slate scoring 3 or more goals per game over their last five, this is not a good goalie slate. On four games, you can certainly correlate your goalie with your stacks when building. When it comes to other goalie options, you can consider Semyon Varlamov from the Islanders, but his numbers are pretty ugly recently. You can make a case for Laurent Brossoit from Vegas, but keep in mind, the team in front of him is very banged up right now. Kaapo Kahkonen for Minnesota is an interesting play, but keep in mind, Columbus has been scoring at home, so he runs risky as well. As you can see, all goalies come with a considerable amount of risk tonight, with Jarry/Demko feeling like the better of the plays.

Lines to Build Around

These lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Minnesota Wild 1 – Ryan Hartman/Kirill Kaprizov/Mats Zuccarello/Jared Spurgeon: The Wild head to Columbus tonight to face the Blue Jackets and Elvis Merzlikins. This is a FANTASTIC matchup for this line, and arguably the best matchup on the slate. Lately, Columbus has been matching their top line to the opposing top line, with the Kuraly line taking the second line matchup duties. That matchup should set up this line for plenty of chances, and they should be able to take advantage of a poor defensive team in Columbus. Give Alex Goligoski a look as a value defender who correlates with this line.

Winnipeg Jets 2 – Pierre-Luc Dubois/Kyle Connor/Evgeny Svechnikov/Josh Morrissey: With how Varlamov has been playing, Winnipeg looks to be in a really good spot. This second line should see a majority of the top Islander line in what is a very plus matchup. Expect this line to be lower owned, and the upside is very, very nice. A Kyle Connor anytime scorer prop is currently +115 on DraftKings Sportsbook and is worth a look.

Vancouver Canucks 1 – J.T. Miller/Brock Boeser/Tanner Pearson/Quinn Hughes: Thanks to some unique line matching trends, this top line should see the second line for the Caps for a majority of the night. Throw in the fact that Samsonov looks to get the start for the Caps tonight, and this is a recipe for success for this line on home ice. The second Caps line has been bleeding high danger chances and they have a higher than normal expected goals against per 60 (3.00). This line could be super sneaky with a ton of upside.

High Risk Lines

These are plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Minnesota Wild 2 – Frederick Gaudreau/Kevin Fiala/Matthew Boldy: That top line is in a great spot for Minnesota, but this second line cannot be ignored. They have a very good matchup as well, against the bottom part of the Columbus lineup. Look for these guys to continue to stay hot, and it really depends on your lineup build and which way you end up with Minnesota.

New York Islanders 1 – Brock Nelson/Anthony Beauvillier/Anders Lee/Noah Dobson: This line should see the likes of the second Winnipeg line mentioned above. The Isles are a more defensive minded team, which tends to limit their DFS upside, but this line is in a good spot and just had a great night. They have a chance to repeat that tonight, with the Jets coming to town. Hellebuyck has been bad for the Jets, and this game should flirt with going over the total of 6, unless Hellebuyck decides to show up.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Evgeni Malkin/Evan Rodrigues/Danton Heinen: This second Pitt line should see a mix of the depth lines for Vegas tonight, and they should have the upper hand there. The scoring recently for the Pens has been somewhat spread out, and this game appears like it might be on the lower end as far as totals for the night, but this line could surprise us. It’s also why this one comes in as risky. PIT1 is in consideration as well, as you can see below in honorable mentions. You can use Marcus Pettersson or John Marino as value D men to correlate with this line.

Friday 3/4 NHL Breakdown

Welcome back for another installment of the Friday Night Forecheck here at Win Daily Sports! March already?! This season is flying by, and we will soon be talking about the playoffs. Tonight’s slate is a bigger-than-normal-for-a-Friday slate, with seven games going. It also features an unusual number of teams playing on back to back nights (CAR, PIT, MIN, TBL, and VGK). With that many back-to-back scenarios, it makes the goaltending pretty dicey. Let’s dive into the plays. Good luck and be sure to keep up on news through the day and during warmups!

Goalies

John Gibson – Anaheim Ducks: There is no doubt that Gibson has been struggling recently, but he is still a very solid goalie. With the matchup against Vegas tonight, he should see plenty of shot volume. The good thing is that the Knights have only been scoring 2.2 goals per game over their last five road games. This is a good spot for Gibby to be himself and steal the Ducks a win.

Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets: Helle, what have you been doing to us? He seems to show up in bad spots and blow up in good spots. Tonight is an interesting matchup against the visiting Dallas Stars. The Stars have been struggling on the road recently, so this spot looks good for Helle and the Jets.

Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers: Igor and the Rangers host the Devils tonight, and admittedly, this play is a little bit riskier than we would hope. Igor’s numbers have been very good this year, and even recently, so this is a good chance for him to stifle the Devils who have been scoring quite a bit recently.

GPP Goalie Pick – Antti Raanta – Carolina Hurricanes: The Canes host the Penguins tonight in what should be a high event game. If Raanta does in fact get the nod, then he should be peppered with shots. Since the Pens played last night, and dominated, we are going to hope they are a little tired and maybe lose some steam here tonight. The shot volume should keep Antti relevant, we just need him to not give up 5.

Lines to Build Around

These lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

New York Rangers Power Play – Mika Zibanejad/Ryan Strome/Chris Kreider/Artemi Panarin/Adam Fox: The Rangers, as mentioned above, are playing a Devils team that has been scoring recently, but they have also been giving up goals at a whopping 4.2 goals allowed over their last five games. The Devils also give up quite a bit of shots per game, and their goalie situation is not ideal. This is a very good spot for this power play unit that has proven to be lethal at times this season.

Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – Brayden Point/Nikita Kucherov/Ondrej Palat/Victor Hedman: The Lightning put up an absolute dud last night against the Penguins at home, and tonight have a chance to make up for it when they host the Red Wings. The main thing about this play is the goalie matchup. Nedeljkovic has the worst numbers on the slate over his last five starts, posting a whopping 4.89 GAA. This will likely be a chalky play, but their lack of production last night could (hopefully) pull some ownership off of them tonight.

Winnipeg Jets 2 – Pierre-Luc Dubois/Kyle Connor/Evgeny Svechnikov/Josh Morrissey: Keep an eye on the line combos here tonight, as it looks like Ehlers might be set to return. If he does, he very well could slot into this line to replace Svechnikov. Hopefully, this line stays intact, though, because they have a fantastic even strength matchup with Dallas 2 tonight. Don’t be afraid to play Svechnikov, because not many people play him, and he has been playing really well recently with this line.

High Risk Lines

These are plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Carolina Hurricanes 1 – Sebastian Aho/Andrei Svechnikov/Teuvo Teravainen/Jaccob Slavin: The matchup tonight for this line is a decent one, and they should definitely see their chances. The other good thing about this play is that they get to face Desmith, who is the worse of the goalies for the Penguins. This line has a chance to put multiple tallies on the board, and they are a borderline top play. The Penguins have been playing well recently, so this very well could be a tight game, which is the only reason they didn’t make it up there.

Buffalo Sabres 2 – Dylan Cozens/Casey Mittelstadt/Kyle Okposo: The numbers in the matchup for this line look very, very good tonight, and they will be up against Kaapo Kahkonen, who has been shaky of late. This line will be way under the radar, and should see a surprising number of chances tonight.

Los Angeles Kings 2 – Phillip Danault/Trevor Moore/Viktor Arvidsson/Drew Doughty: Lately, this line has seemed like a constantly good play, and they have a very nice matchup tonight against the Blue Jackets. They become high risk because Merzlikins actually has decent numbers recently, but it is very hard to trust him. This line could make a splash tonight.

Detroit Red Wings Power Play – Dylan Larkin/Lucas Raymond/Tyler Bertuzzi/Robby Fabbri/Moritz Seider: The Lightning gave up 5 goals to the Pens last night on home ice with Vasilevskiy in net. Now, the Red Wings are not the Penguins. However, the Lightning will have Elliott in net, who only plays when there are back-to-back situations. This power play unit gives you direct access to the top two lines for Detroit, who are in a spot where they could fly under the radar with high upside.

Friday 2/25 NHL Breakdown

Welcome back for another installment of the Friday Night Forecheck here at Win Daily Sports. This Friday gives us a decent six game slate with a lot of places to go. It should be a fun one. Good luck!

Goalies

Ville Husso – St. Louis Blues: The Blues host the Sabres tonight, and they are heavy favorites. Husso has some of the best numbers on the slate, and the Sabres have been struggling mightily on the road over their last five. This is a great spot for Husso, and probably the safest on the board tonight.

Laurent Brossoit – Vegas Golden Knights: The Knights head to the desert tonight to face the Coyotes, where they should be able to control the game. Vegas has also been struggling to score on the road over their last five, so Broissoit may be called on to keep them in the game tonight, which is kind of wild when you consider how bad Arizona is overall.

Darcy Kuemper – Colorado Avalanche: The Avalanche host the Jets tonight, and this is a bit of a riskier play than Husso and Brossoit. Kuemper has had an up and down season for sure, but his recent numbers definitely look good. The Jets have been struggling over their last five road games, and this looks like a really good spot for the Avs, so hopefully, Darcy can put in a good performance tonight.

GPP Goalie Pick – Marc-Andre Fleury – Chicago Blackhawks: The Hawks host the Devils tonight, who are in the second leg of a traveling back to back. Fleury is always a risk in net, but he has these games where he just shows up, and the Devils should be tired tonight. He should be a solid play, and with others on the board, he should go under the radar from an ownership standpoint.

Lines to Build Around

These lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Vegas Golden Knights 1 – Jack Eichel/Max Pacioretty/Chandler Stephenson/Shea Theodore: As mentioned above, the Knights head to Arizona tonight in what should be a very good spot for them. This top line should see the Galchenyuk line for more of the night, and when they don’t, it’ll be the Boyd line. Both of these matchups should give this line plenty of opportunity to produce tonight. Feel free to drop Stephenson for a three-man.

Carolina Hurricanes 1 – Sebastian Aho/Andrei Svechnikov/Teuvo Teravainen/Jaccob Slavin: The Hurricanes’ top line should be matched up with the Blue Jackets’ top line tonight, and what a matchup that is for them. This line has a great chance to break the slate tonight, especially considering that they are up against J.F. Berube in net.

Colorado Avalanche 1 – Mikko Rantanen/Gabriel Landeskog/Andre Burakovsky/Cale Makar: Without MacKinnon, this line is just a little cheaper, and in their line matching, they should see the likes of the 4th line for the Jets for most of the night. What a matchup this is. Hellebuyck for the Jets has been up and down, so this game in theory could go either way, but look for this line to do some big damage tonight against the Jets’ depth. Feeling frisky? Andre Burakovsky as an anytime scorer prop is at +195 early in the day on DraftKings Sportsbook, and is definitely worth a look.

High Risk Lines

These are plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

St. Louis Blues 2 – Robert Thomas/Pavel Buchnevich/Vladimir Tarasenko/Torey Krug: Truthfully, the Blues’ second line is interchangeable with the Vegas top line, and this play borders on one to build around. These guys should see the likes of Buffalo 2 for a good portion of the night, setting them up for a really nice opportunity. Craig Anderson in net for the Sabres is the cherry on top, and this line may just fly under the radar. As long as Anderson gets the start for the Sabres, a team total over 3.5 bet is worth a look at -125 on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Los Angeles Kings 2 – Phillip Danault/Trevor Moore/Viktor Arvidsson/Mikey Anderson: The Kings head to Anaheim to take on the Ducks tonight, and the line matching trends suggest that this line is in for yet another good night. They have been the hot hand recently, and they could very well fly way under the radar tonight as a late night hammer. Gibson for Anaheim is decent, but he has not quite been himself recently, so this is an interesting, yet risky look.

Chicago Blackhawks 1 – Dylan Strome/Alex Debrincat/Patrick Kane/Seth Jones: On paper, this line looks like a fantastic spot tonight, especially going up against the Devils, who are on the back end of a traveling back to back. They are the Hawks, though, and they have been very inconsistent, even bad most of the time, throughout the season. The risk is there, but if there is a possibility that this line could dominate the game tonight against Jersey.

Winnipeg Jets 1 – Mark Scheifele/Blake Wheeler/Paul Stastny/Josh Morrissey: This is a contrarian play that is big opportunity at what should be very low ownership. The top line should see the third and fourth lines for the Avalanche tonight, creating a very nice plus matchup for them. If Kuemper has one of his off nights, this could be a line that makes a big difference on the slate. They may not break it, but they could very well combine for multiple goals. This one is reserved for deeper GPPs to be super contrarian.

Honorable Mentions: ANH2, VGK2, NJD1, CBJ1

Value Options – DraftKings

Center: Kirby Dach ($3300) – Chicago Blackhawks – not a part of the stacks above, but can be used as a one-off, as he should see extended ice time against the top line for the Devils

Defense: Mikey Anderson ($2500) – Los Angeles Kings

Value Options – FanDuel

Center: Chandler Stephenson ($5100) – Vegas Golden Knights

Friday 2/18 NHL Breakdown

Welcome back for another installment of the Friday Night Forecheck here at Win Daily Sports. A nice four game slate is on tap with some interesting spots, and one game that should be fun to watch. It’s a tougher slate that you would think for four games, but we will do our best to narrow down how to attack it. Good luck!

Goalies

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: The Stars travel to Chicago to take on the Blackhawks, who played Thursday night. The back to back situation, and, well, the fact that it is Chicago, puts Jake in a good spot, despite having a road matchup. Frankly, this feels like the only ‘safe’ goalie on the slate tonight, but you can also consider Frederik Andersen or Juuse Saros in this spot if you don’t want to put all of your eggs in the Oettinger basket.

GPP Goalie Pick – Laurent Brossoit – Vegas Golden Knights: With Lehner on the shelf, potentially long term, Brossoit has a legitimate chance to make a name for himself in Vegas. He is arguably a slightly better goalie than Lehner and could really benefit from a stretch of good hockey. In a home matchup against the Kings, he should be able to put a decent game together. He is a risk, however, simply because he has an ability to just blow up and not save anything.

Lines to Build Around

These lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Florida Panthers Power Play – Aleksander Barkov/Anthony Duclair/Sam Reinhart/Jonathan Huberdeau/Aaron Ekblad: It is very hard to argue with the way the Panthers have been playing this year, especially over the last month or so. They have been finding scoring everywhere and have become an offensive powerhouse. Tonight, they head to Minnesota for a date with the Wild in what should be a fun game to watch. The priority in the PP unit is usually Barkov/Huberdeau/Ekblad, but feel free to mix and match as your build allows.

Dallas Stars 1 – Roope Hintz/Jason Robertson/Joe Pavelski/John Klingberg: The Stars head to Chicago tonight to take on a Blackhawks team that is playing the second game of a back to back, and they get a matchup against Fleury, who has been less than stellar all season. If Klingberg can’t go, then Heiskanen can be played in his spot. This top line for the Stars should have its way with the Hawks and make great core pieces in any lineup.

High Risk Lines

These are plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Nashville Predators 2 – Ryan Johansen/Luke Kunin/Eeli Tolvanen/Mattias Ekholm: The Preds’ second line is in a very interesting spot tonight. The Canes match the Staal line to the opposing top line, the top line to the second, and the second to the third. That matching scheme sets this line up for a date with the top Canes’ line in a very nice matchup. This line is not necessarily known for its scoring, but they have a chance to be a super low owned, sneaky upside play.

Chicago Blackhawks 2 – Kirby Dach/Mackenzie Entwistle/Alex Debrincat: The even strength matchup for this line should be against the second line for the Stars, which is a nice matchup that should provide plenty of opportunity. This is a sneaky play that carries more risk than usual, setting this play up as a deep GPP look only. Of course, don’t play this line in the same lineup where you have Oettinger as your goalie.

Minnesota Wild 1 – Ryan Hartman/Mats Zuccarello/Kirill Kaprizov/Jared Spurgeon: the MIN/FLA game should be the most exciting game on the night, showcasing Kirill the Thrill and some other Young Guns against a slightly more seasoned, but very exciting Florida team. Because this game should be high event, it is recommended to get at least a piece of it in your lineup. These guys have a nice matchup, even though FLA gets the slight edge in this game. If playing multiple lineups, be sure to get both sides of this game.

Vegas Golden Knights 2 – William Karlsson/Jonathan Marchessault/Reilly Smith/Alex Pietrangelo: Everyone is rightfully excited about Jack Eichel finally suiting up for the Knights. He is going to make a great fit out there and really make the Knights a tough team. However, this second line should still be strongly considered as the better line until Eichel can skate with Stone and Patches consistently. Against the Kings, this line should see a mix of both top lines, spending just a touch more time against the second line. This matchup is very nice for the second line for Vegas tonight. Keep in mind, it is also a very nice matchup for LAK2 here, so you can go either way in this game.
