Vancouver Canucks

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Saturday and that means we have ourselves a healthy-sized slate of NHL DFS. We have 12 games on tap tonight in what should be a high-scoring affair. There are several top offensive teams in glorious matchups tonight. Toronto, Colorado, and Vancouver are in better-than-normal spots and we’ll need to figure out which expensive stack to use.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Jacob Markstrom vs. Los Angeles

We have a collision of 2 things we are looking for when picking a goalie. A goalie that is hot and a team that isn’t scoring much in the way of goals. The KIngs offense has pretty much disappeared over the last couple of weeks as they’re scoring just 2 goals per game over their last 6 games. We’ll want to attack that and we’ll attack with a goalie who is playing very well right now and won’t break the bank.

Over his last 3 games, Jacob Markstrom has a save % of .950 and has given up just 1.35 goals per game. Those are great numbers and with his price tag being just $7.5k on DK tonight, he’s very much in play. In his last 2 games, he’s scored 27.5 and 25.6 DK points. The Kings can explode at any time, but I like Markstrom’s chances tonight to get us value at his current price.

Ilya Sorokin vs. Carolina Hurricanes

The Islanders head to Carolina tonight to take on the Hurricanes. While the Hurricanes are favored in this one, I’m still going to take a swing at them with the Sorokin. Sorokin has been playing really well over the last few weeks and is extremely cheap tonight. HIs $7.1 price tag will allow us some payroll flexibility with the rest of our lineup.

With his level of play of late, we shouldn’t lose any productivity. Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen him put up 23.5 DK points vs. Edmonton, 24.4 against Toronto, and 27.9 vs. Florida. He’s been able to tame some pretty potent offenses and should be able to again tonight.

Other goalies: Joey Daccord, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Charlie LIndgren

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Nylander, Knies) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

On paper, there may not be a better matchup tonight than the Maple Leafs vs. Columbus. I normally try to steer away from highlighting an obvious stack like the Leafs, but it’s just a solid spot that I really just need to portray to all of you. Columbus is giving up pretty close to 5 goals per game over the last couple of weeks. They’re also giving up over 15 high-danger chances per game. They are extremely attackable right now and we’re going to do just that with one of the top goal scorers in the NHL.

Over his last 4 games, Matthews has 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points. He is playing great right now and we’ll want to make sure we have a piece of him in our lineup tonight. He’s expensive so we’ll probably need to find some crazy value elsewhere, but he’ll be worth it.

His line-mates are also very much in play. William Nylander for his production and Matthew Knies for his value. If you’re playing Matthews tonight, Knies is almost a must as he’s just $3.5k on DK. He’s far from a sure thing to get to value, but his price tag alone makes him worth it. He makes paying the $10k so much easier tonight. Fading Matthews tonight is high-risk.

Colorado 1 (Rantanen, MacKinnon, Nichuskin) vs. Arizona Coyotes

The decision we’ll need to make tonight will be which of these top lines do we play. Do we go with Toronto vs. Columbus or Colorado vs. Arizona. My lean right now is Colorado. All 3 of these guys are on fire. While the Coyotes are better defensively than Columbus, this top line for the Avalanche is on absolute fire right now.

Let’s start with the cheapest of the 3 and that’s Valeri Nichuskin. Nichuskin has arguably been the best of the 3 and he’s the cheapest at $7.3k. No one on this slate has more high-danger chances over their last 5 games than Nichuskin at 27. He’s on fire and we’ll want him in our lineups tonight.

The next decision that you’ll want to make is to pick between the starts, Rantanen and MacKinnon. If I had to pick between the 2, I’d side right now with Rantanen as he’s cheaper and can still get us a boatload of points tonight. Over his last 5 games, he has 8 points thanks to his 4 goals and 4 assists. He’s $1,400 cheaper than MacKinnon tonight and that savings will go a long way to helping us build a solid lineup.

Columbus 2 (Chinakhov, Voronkov, Marchenko) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

I’ve given you 2 high-priced stacks already so in order to build a solid lineup tonight, I also need to give a cheap one. The second line for Columbus will do that for us. All 3 of these guys are below $5k. They’ve combined for 3 goals over their last 3 games and have a SATF of 36. That SATF is actually one of the top numbers of any trio skating together tonight. Only a handful of lines have a better SATF than this line.

It also helps that the Maple Leafs aren’t great defensively. Over the last couple of weeks, they have been challenged on the defensive front. They are giving up pretty close to 4 goals per game and have also allowed close to 36 shots on net per game. A complete game stack here is very much in play.

Other stacks I like tonight:

New Jersey 1 and 2 vs. Detroit

Detroit 1 vs. New Jersey

NYR 1 and 2 vs. Buffalo

Buffalo 1 and 2 vs. NYR

Van 1 and 2 vs. SJ

Value D

Timothy Liljegren – $3k

Jackson LaCombe – $3k

Ian Cole – $2.7k

MIkey Anderson – $3.7k

NHL DFS Summary

This is a great-looking slate that we can take in several directions. The decision we’ll need to make tonight will be who of the top lines do we pick. Going with anyone from Colorado, Toronto, and Vancouver will be a great path to success. We’ll also need to make sure we pick the right value plays.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Saturday and that means we have ourselves a nice slate to look forward to.  NHL has blessed us with a very manageable 9-game slate of NHL DFS.  This slate has a little bit of everything.  We have a cross-town rivalry between the Rangers/Devils and we also have some lopsided matchups such as the Bruins vs. Canadiens.  There should be plenty of scoring on this slate.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Jonathan Quick vs. New Jersey Devils

As a Rangers fan growing up, this game might have some extra meaning for Jonathan Quick.  Rangers and Devils have long been rivals and these guys typically turn into slug fests.  I’m expecting this game to be on the lower end of the scoring range, at least from the Devils side of things.  At just $7.6k on DK tonight with Quick, we have a very affordable goalie who for all intents and purposes has been brilliant for the Rangers.

Through 6 games played, Quick is posting a .928 save % and just a 1.98 GAA.  These are some of the best numbers of his long and illustrious career.  The Rangers have had a long layoff so there might be some rust on defense, but I still think that Quick brings his A-game today and shuts down the Devils.  Keep an eye on the status of Shesterkin though on this one because there’s a chance he returns tonight.

Karel Vejmelka vs. Winnipeg Jets

If you read most of my articles, you know that I have an affinity for the Coyotes netminder in Karel Vejmelka.  He’s someone that always comes in on the cheaper end of the salary spectrum, but someone that normally performs rather well.  Even in the toughest of games.  Vejmelka almost always faces a ton of shots and that 35-save bonus is almost always in play for him.  He’s in a little bit of a rough stretch as he’s lost 6 straight.

Even with losing that many in a row, he’s still in double-digit DK points in 3 of them.  And has only been negative once.  At his price, we’re looking for double-dights on DK and that is definitely doable against a Jets team that is averaging around 30 shots per game.  He’s always risky, but there’s definitely some reward with him.  GPP only.

Other goalies: Igor Shesterkin, Tristan Jarry, and Ilya Samsonov

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Rangers 2 (Artemi Panarin, Vincent Trocheck, Alexis Lafreniere) vs. New Jersey Devils.

Before the mini-break that the Rangers had, this line was on absolute fire.  They should continue with their strong play tonight against a Devils team that has had some poor goaltending.  Over the last 2 weeks, the Devils have given up 4 goals per game.  Of all the teams playing tonight, that is tied for the second most.

They should have Vitek Vanecek in goal tonight and on the year he just hasn’t been very good.  He’s posted a sub .890 save % and a 3.30 GAA.  He can be had tonight and it will be music to my ears as the Rangers score a bunch of goals on him.

Since putting Trocheck with this line, they have been brilliant.  They have a combined 4 goals over the last 5 games but most importantly, they are firing at all costs.  They also have a combined 60-shot attempt on goal.  That’s the most of any line playing tonight.  The leader of this line is Artemi Panarin.  He’s been a beast this season for the Rangers with 8 goals and 16 assists.  He’s well on his way to his first 100-point season with the New York Rangers and his career.

Alongside him, I plan on locking in both Trocheck and Lafreniere.  I said it early in the year, he’s going to have a monster season.  He’s currently on pace for 41 goals which would annihilate his career high of 19.  Love this line for a pair of goals tonight.

Vancouver 1 (Elias Pettersson, Ilya Mikheyev, Conor Garland) vs. Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken just haven’t been very good defensively of late.  Over the last couple of weeks, they have given up 4 goals per game and around 13 high-danger chances per game.  Both are among the worst out of all the teams playing tonight.  The Vancouver Canucks should be able to get a few goals past him tonight and I like this top line for Vancouver to do someone the damage.  I would not blame you one bit for dropping down the second line of Miller and Boeser.  I just like it here at the top just a little bit more.

The main focal point of this top line is Elias Pettersson.  He’s the star of the show and the star I plan on locking in with this stack.  Over his last 5 games, he’s found the back of the net twice and helped with 4 others for 6 points.  He should easily add to that total tonight in an easy matchup vs. a bad defensive team.  I plan on pairing him mostly with Ilya Mikheyev.  On the year, Mikheyev has 6 goals and 3 apples for 9 points.  He should also be able to add to the total tonight.  Again, I have no problem with dropping down the second unit for the Canucks tonight.  They should also have a strong game and will come in both cheaper an at a lower ownership %.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Boston 1 and 2 vs. Montreal

Calgary 2 vs. Islanders

Pittsburgh 1 and 2 vs. Carolina

Winnipeg 1 vs. Arizona

LA 1 vs. St. Louis

St. Louis 1 and 2 vs. LA

Value D

Nikita Zadorov $2.8k

Neal Pionk $3.7k

Brendan Dillon $3.2k

NHL DFS Summary

We have a solid slate tonight.  I didn’t mention them in my top stack, but the Bruins are in a great spots tonight and should score a ton of goals vs. Montreal and Jake Allen.  That said, I really love the Rangers tonight against a Devils team that just isn’t as good defensively this year as they have in the past.

Welcome to Between the Benches, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

This Sunday we have ourselves a larger than normal slate as the NHL has given 4 games to make ourselves some NHL DFS money.  This slate has a couple of really lopsided games as the Rangers will take on the Blue Jackets and the Ducks get the Sharks.  There should be plenty of offense to go around and I’ll surely be stacking my favorite team.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Jonathan Quick vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

As long as he gets a clean bill of health, Jonathan Quick should be between the pipes for the Rangers tonight.  He’s a little pricier than I normally like to use on my goalie, but he’s been rock solid for the team he grew up rooting for.  Quick has so far played in 5 games for the Rangers this season.  He’s been in dougle-digit DK points in all but one of them and that was his initial start.  His GAA is a measly 1.77 and has a .935 save %.

He should be able to keep in line a team that has been scoring just 3 goals per game over the last couple of weeks.  The Rangers have been rock solid on D and that means that Quick should be getting some easy shots to push away.  Quick and the Rangers are massive favorites in this one so he should see that Win bonus.

John Gibson vs. San Jose Sharks

John Gibson is on pace to have his best season since all the way back in 2016.  His GAA are the lowest it’s been since that season and his save % of .921 is the highest it’s been since 2017.  This is a much better Ducks team than last year and there’s a strong possibility that they sneak into the playoffs this year.

The Ducks get a great matchup in this one and are nearly -200 favorites.  Gibson too is a little more than I normally pay for him but there’s definitely upside with him tonight with the potential for a shutout and a win vs. the worst team in the league.  Lock and load with our friend Gibson tonight.

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Ranges 2 (Artemi Panarin, Vincent Trocheck, Alexis Lafreniere) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

This Rangers has looked amazing to start the season.  I’m not just saying that because I’m a die-hard Rangers fan, but because they actually look really good.  Only the Knights and the Bruins have started out the season better than the Rangers.  They’ll get a tasty matchup vs. a Blue Jackets team that has struggled over the last couple of weeks.

Over the last 2 weeks, the Blue Jackets have given up 4 goals per game and close to 15 high-danger chances a game.  They’ll have Elvis Merzlikins in net and he’s a goalie that when the matchup dictates it, I love to pick on.

The Rangers’ second unit has been by far their best unit of the year.  Even though they’ve lost Chytil for a little bit, there hasn’t been any loss of productivity as Trocheck has filled in admirably.  This line is anchored by Panarin.  He’s having one of his finest seasons and over his last 5 games, he has 10 points thanks to his 4 goals and 6 assists.

I’ll look to definitely pair him with Laf as Laf is finally coming into his own this season.  Over his last 5 games, he has 5 points.  At just $4k tonight, he’ll allow us some payroll flexibility.  This line should be extremely productive this season vs. a bad Blue Jackets team.

Anaheim 2 (Mason McTavish, Alex Killorn, Ryan Strome) vs. San Jose Sharks

While the Sharks have finally won a couple of games, they are still a really bad team that has given up more than 5 goals per game over the last couple of weeks.  They are bleeding shots as they’re giving up very close to 40 shots on goal per game over their last 6.

The Sharks are a team that I will continue to stack against any chance I get.  Especially when they have a goalie like Mackenzie Blackwood who has a GAA of 4 this season and a save % below .900.  He’s struggled in net and will continue to struggle against a much improved Ducks team.

This line is ready for a breakthrough.  Over their last 3 games, this line has 34 shot attempts.  Although they only have 1 goal together, they are due if they continue to try to put as many pucks on the net as they currently are.  This line is also a really solid value and is going to allow us to fit in those expensive Rangers I want tonight.

Mason McTavish leads the way for this line with 6 points over his last 5 games.  3 of those points were goals so we have some upside with him.  He’s also putting a ton of shots on net as he’s averaging 4 shots on goal per game over that stretch.  I’ll look to lock in Killorn next to him.  He’s only played in 3 games so far this year but his last was his best as he recorded a pair of assists.  I like this line for a pair of goals tonight.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Dallas 1 vs. Minnesota

Vancouver 1 and 2 vs. Montreal

Rangers 1 vs. Columbus

Value D

Erik Gustafsson $4.2k

Cam Flower $4.4k

Thomas Harley $3.3k

NHL DFS Summary

We finally have a decent sized slate on a Sunday night.  This slate has some potential blowout games with the Rangers and Ducks expected to score a ton of goals.  I plan on loading up on both teams tonight.

Make sure to drop into Discord where we’re constantly talking about plays for every slate.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Saturday and that means we have a full slate on our hands.  Tonight we have ourselves a really solid 10-game slate of NHL DFS.  There are a handful of high-powered offenses that we’ll want to get into our lineups.  We also have some really bad teams on the ice that we’ll want to attack.  It’s shaping up to be an extremely fun slate.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Connor Ingram vs. Nashville Predators

The Coyotes should be turning over the crease to Connor Ingram this evening.  I plan on locking him as my goalie tonight as he fits the bill that I normally look for, cheap and productive.  Ingram is just $7.2k tonight and he plays far from a minimum-salary goalie.  Over his last 3 starts, Ingram has games of 23, 18.6, and 22.8 DK points.

If he can come even close to that tonight against an average Predators offense, I will gladly take it.  With a tag of $7.2k and the potential for points in the 20’s, that’s an extreme value and really solidifies our lineup.  Lock and load Ingram tonight.

Alexandar Georgiev vs. St. Louis Blues

If you’re looking for more of a cash-game goaltender tonight, I’d side with Alexandar Georgiev.  Georgiev is a little more pricier than Ingram at $8.3k on DK, but he’s also a much safer bet to get the W and perform well.  The Avalanche are a huge favorite tonight against the Blues at -255.

I will add though that Georgiev has struggled a bit of late, with 4 consecutive duds.  That said, this a solid get-right spot for him vs. a Blues offense that really isn’t all that impressive.

Other goalies: Igor Shesterkin, Tristan Jarry, and Ilya Samsonov

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Vancouver 1 (Elias Pettersson, Ilya Mikheyev, Andrei Kuzmenko) vs. Ottawa Senators

This line worked out really well for us on Thursday when I recommended them and they get just as good of a matchup tonight against Toronto as they did on Thursday vs. Ottawa. The Canucks will be facing off against Ilya Samsonov.  Samsonov has been horrendous.  This season he has a 4.11 GAA and just a .855 save %.  Both numbers are really bad.  He has multiple games this year allowing at least 4 goals and has let up less than 3 just twice in his 7 starts.

He’s someone who will allow the puck to get past him early and often.  It’s not only his fault though as the Maple Leafs have not been good defensively.  They have allowed well over 4 goals per game over the last couple of weeks and pretty close to 14 high-danger chances.  They are a team that, although they can score, they give up just as many just as quickly.

Over their last 3 games, this line has combined to score 4 goals.  Elias Pettersson is the anchor of this line and the one that I’m most interested in.  Over his last 5 games, Pettersson has been brilliant with 5 goals and 6 assists.  Yes, he’s expensive at $7.9k but he’s a star on this team and one that we can often count on to fill the box sheet.

Next to him will be Ilya Mikheyev and Andrei Kuzmenko.  Mikheyev is coming off one of his better games of the season that saw him score 2 goals and put 4 shots on net.  Do I expect that again from him?  No, but with a solid matchup, I do expect him to get in on the scoring.  He’s a solid value at $4.4k.  Adding Quinn Hughes to this stack is also a smart move.  He’s making a very strong case for the Norris Trophy.

Los Angeles 1 (Anze Kopitar, Quinton Byfield, Adrian Kempe) vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Before we start, we’re going to have a little history lesson.  Name the team that provided the first win for the historically bad San Jose Sharks.  If you said the Flyers, you are right.  This is a pretty weak Flyers team this season.  Yes, they are coming off a victory vs. the Ducks last night, but they are still a bad team.  I plan on attacking them often tonight with the Kings.  Over the last couple of weeks, the Flyers are giving up pretty close to 4 goals per game.

They should have backup goal Cal Petersen in net tonight with Hart still nursing a back injury and Ersson playing last night.  In his lone appearance this season, Petersen let up 5 goals against this same Kings team.

This top line for LA has been very good.  Not only do they have 3 combined goals over their last 3 games, they also have 54 shot attempts on net.  That’s more than any trio over their last 3 games.  We’ll get to the stars of the show next, but I want to highlight the value of this line.  Quinton Byfield is just $4k tonight, but he’s been on a tear and should be priced higher.  Over his last 5 games, Byfield has an impressive 8 assists.  He’s had at least 9 DK points in 4 of the 5 and if we can get him into double-digits tonight he’ll be an extreme value play.

Both Kempe and Kopitar are the goal scorers on this line.  If I can only afford one of them tonight I’m siding with Kempe.  Kempe has 4 goals in his last 5 and 27 shots on goal.  He’s been great and so has this line.  Use them often.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Boston 1 vs. Montreal

Ottawa 2 vs. Calgary

TB 1 and 2 vs. Carolina (tread lightly though)

Toronto 1 and 2 vs. Vancouver (tread lightly, Demko has been very good)

Pittsburgh 1 and 2 (Buffalo is on the tail end of a back-to-back)

Value D

Jamie Oleksiak $3k – Getting a ton of blocked shots of late

Nikita Zadorov $2.7k

Alexadre Carrier $4.2k

Scott Mayfield $3.9k

Sean Walker $3.4k

NHL DFS Summary

On the surface, this is a pretty clear-cut slate for me.  Stack the Canucks and Kings.  There are certainly other spots for offense tonight, but I’m really digging those spots and you should too!

Welcome to Between the Benches, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Thursday and that means we have a Hockey Night!  We have a massive 11-game slate tonight that we’ll want to navigate through.  This slate brings us some really solid matchups.  There are some lopsided matchups in this one and there are also some really boring games that we’ll be able to cross right off our list.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Karel Vejmelka vs. St. Louis Blues

When in doubt, play Vej!  I plan on utilizing him heavily tonight as he fits the bill I’m looking for.  He’s cheap.  At just $7.6k on DK tonight he’ll give us some serious payroll flexibility without the loss of productivity.  On the year, Vejmelka has had some decent numbers.  While he’s 2-4, I’m more focused on the save % that’s north of .900.  He also has a respectable GAA at 3.09.

The Coyotes have been a little more stout defensively this season as they’re only allowing around 33 shots per game over the last couple of weeks.  That’s more than enough volume however to get us a goalie that should hit value tonight.  With all that said, Vejmelka should be more reserved for GPP’s as there’s a good chance he does not get the W tonight.

James Reimer vs. Montreal Canadiens

The Detroit Red Wings will turn over the crease to James Reimer this evening and that has me really intrigued.  He’s only started 4 games this season but boy has he been good!  He’s sporting a .944 save % and a GAA of just 1.52.  In the 4 games he’s started he’s failed to get into double-digit DK points just once.  In that game, he was still positive as he scored 7 DK points.  I’m willing to roll the dice with him here as he’s a very affordable $7.9k on DK.  That’s a very fair price given his production and matchup.

This is a Canadiens team that just doesn’t have a lot of firepower.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’re scoring just 2.83 goals per game, while taking around 31 shots on goal.  This is a goalie you can certainly use in Cash games if that’s your thing.  The Red Wings are heavy favorites here at -170.  Lock and load with Reimer!

Other goalies: Thatcher Demko, Jake Oettinger, and Alexandar Georgiev.

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Edmonton 1 (Connor McDavid, Ryan McCleod, Zach Hyman) vs. San Jose Sharks

With his being an 11-game slate tonight, there should be plenty of value options for us to find to be able to afford this top unit for Edmonton.  While the Sharks are fresh off their first win of the season vs. the Flyers, this is a bad team that will continue to do bad things.  Through 12 games this season, the Sharks have a -42 goal differential.  They are on a record pace to be a historically bad team.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’re giving up 5.50 goals per game and nearly 17 high-danger chances.  They are bad and we should stack against them any chance we get, except when they play the Flyers of course.

The start of the season has surely been a disappointment for the top player in the NHL.  Through 9 games, McDavid has just 8 10 points.  For someone who had 153 points in 82 games last year, he’s off to a very slow pace.  If ever there was a game on the schedule where we’d see a vintage McDavid performance, this is it!  He’s an absolute lock for me this evening.  I do wish he was playing alongside Leon Draisaitl, but he’s still in a great spot tonight.

I plan on locking him up with Zach Hyman by his side. These 2 not only play together on the top unit, they also play together on the top power-play unit for Edmonton.  They’ll have plenty of chances to score this evening, making them a very intriguing option.  Min-priced Ryan McLeod makes a nice addition for us at an extremely cheap price.  He’s nowhere near a must-play, but this cheap playing next to McDavid is very appealing.

Vancouver 1 (Elias Pettersson, Ilya Mikheyev, Andrei Kuzmenko) vs. Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are coming off a hard-earned win last night and should have some tired legs in this one.  Because of that, I’m going to be stacking against them with the top unit for Vancouver  I wouldn’t argue with you if you decided to drop down to the second unit but I’m mostly interested in this top line.  The Canucks will more than likely be shooting on Anton Forsberg this evening.

Forsberg has not been good.  Over his 4 starts this season, Forsberg has just a .861 save % and has allowed 3.42 goals per game.  Both of those numbers are close to the bottom of all the goalies expected to start tonight.  Whenever I see numbers like this, I stack against them.

My main focus on this line will be Elias Pettersson as he’s the anchor here.  Over his last 5 games, Pettersson has been really solid with 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points.  Only Quinn Hughes has more points for the Canucks over that stretch.  Pettersson has also been averaging close to 3.5 shots per game, putting him right in the square of the offense.  Neither Mikheyev nor Kuzmenko is a priority and they are both evenly priced.  If I had to pick between the 2 of them, I’d pick Kuzemnko as he does just a little bit more on offense.  Kuzmenko will also skate with Pettersson on the top power-play unit which makes him all the more appealing.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Boston 1 or 2 vs. Islanders

Detroit 1 vs. Montreal (they are close to my second favorite stack right behind Vancouver)

Ottawa 2 vs. Vancouver

Rangers 1 vs. Minnesota (Fleury is passed his prime)

Minnesota 1 vs. Rangers (Rangers are starting a 3rd string Goalie)

TB 1 and 2 vs. Chicago

LA 1 vs. Pittsburgh

Value D

Mason Lohrei ($2.5k) – Double digit DK points in 2 of 3 games

Jeff Petry ($2.8k) – Double digit DK points in back to back games

Neal Pionk ($3.2k)

Filip Hronek ($4.3k)

NHL DFS Summary

This is a great looking slate that should be high scoring. I’m all in on the Oilers as I think the Sharks come back down to earth after their dismantling of the LOL Flyers.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  I’m Jared and I’ll be your host.  Tonight we have a solid 10 game slate where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL slate on Fanduel and Draftkings.

Before we dive in I want to highlight some terms you’ll see in my article:

  • Corsi – Any shot attempt (goals, shots on net, misses and blocks) outside of the shootout
  • Even Strength – Play where both teams have the same number of players (including goalies) on the ice. Includes 5v5, 4v4, 3v3
  • Power Play – Play where the team has more players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 5v4, 5v3, 4v3
  • Penalty Kill – Play where the team has fewer players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 4v5, 3v4, 3v5

Goaltending

Thomas Greiss ($7.2k DK/$7k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – Greiss is the projected starter for the Red Wings and if he does indeed get the nod between the pipes I’m all in.  The Canadiens have been brutal to start to the year as they are still yet to find the win column.  Through their first 5 games they’ve only managed to score 3 even strength goals.  In Greiss we have a goaltender who’s look solid in his first two outings with a .969 save % and just a 1 GAA.

Frederik Andersen ($8.1k DK/$7.8k FD) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – Through his first 3 starts on the year Andersen has looked extremely sharp.  He’s been averaging 30 saves per game and has a .938 save %.  With Cam Atkins no longer on the squad, this Blue Jackets team is nowhere near as scary as they used to be.

They’ve been averaging less than 2 even strength goals per game in their 4 first games and if the Hurricanes can stay out of the penalty box I don’t see any reason why Anderson won’t keep up his string of solid starts.  I do like his price quite a bit better on FD than DK, but he’s a solid play on both.

Jordan Binnington ($8.5k DK/$7.5k FD) vs. Los Angeles Kings – While he’s playable on DK, this is more of a FD play tonight since he’s $1k cheaper there. Binnington gets an extremely solid match up tonight.  After the Kings exploded for 6 goals on opening, they’ve only been able to muster 5 goals in their last 3 games.  Binnington is coming off his best start of the year in which he saved 42 of the 43 shots that the Vegas Knights had.  Look for Binnington to post another strong performance tonight.

Stacks

Carolina 2 (Andrei Svechnikov/Vincent Trocheck/Martin Necas)

Svechnikov has been rolling to start the year.  Through just 3 games he has 4 goals and 5 points.  Him and his line mates get a great match up tonight vs. a Blue Jackets team that has been challenged to start the year.  The Blue Jackets have a Corsi % of 45% (really want to be above 50%) at even strength to start the year.  They’re giving up way more shot attempts than they taking themselves.

Another way to get exposure to the Hurricanes tonight is to go with their PP1.  You can drop Necas and add in either Sebastian Aho or Tony DeAngelo.  Any way you slice it, I really like the Hurricanes chances of putting up a big number tonight and it’s all going to start with Svechnikov.  He’s your Hurricanes lock and you’ll want to build around him.

Detroit PP1 (Dylan Larkin/Tyler Bertuzzi/Nick Leddy/Lucas Raymond)

I focused on the Canadiens struggles scoring goals above, now I’m going to focus on their inability to keep the puck out of the net.  Through their first 5 games the Canadiens have given up 8 power play goals.  Their penalty kill has been atrocious and I really want to attack it.  Bertuzzi, Larkin, and Raymond all play together at even strength and on the power play.

Those that hang out in discord know my affinity for Raymond.  He scored his first goal of his career the other night and I love his chances of adding to that total tonight.  This trio is going to be a ton of fun to watch this year and they get a soft match up tonight.  On DK, I’m probably going to fade Bertuzzi and play Leddy because $7.6k is just a bit more than I’d like to pay for him.  On FD though, Bertuzzi is just $4.9k and is a must play in my eyes.

Vancouver 1 (Elias Pettersson/JT Miller/Brock Boeser)

Of all the teams playing tonight, no team has given up more high danger chances at even strength than the Seattle Kraken.  They’ve given up 11 through their first 5 games.  They’ve also given up a ton of scoring chances through those 5 as their opponents have had more than 23 scoring chances per game.  In comparison a team like the Predators is only giving up 18 per game.

My favorite pieces of this stack are Pettersson and Miller.  The two of them have combined for 29 shots this season and 13 high danger scoring chances.  With the Kraken’s propensity to give up high danger chances and their ability to get those some types of chances, I really like their chances find the back of the net multiple times tonight.

Other stacks (Islanders PP1, Florida Panthers 1, Arizona Coyotes 1, St. Louis Blues 1)

Value Defenseman

Sean Walker – Averaging more than 20 minutes per game on the ice.  Has averaged more than 4 shots + blocks per game and is also seeing power play time

Erik Cernak – Isn’t seeing power play time, but is on the nice for more than 20 minute per game.  Also averaging more than 4 shots + blocks per game.

Brett Pesce – Has played 23, 23, and 22 minutes in 3 games so far.  Last game had 5 blocks.  Love playing guys that have no regard for their bodies and willing to block that many shots

Brady Skjei – The ex Rangers defenseman has been putting in the work this year.  20 minutes of ice time per game.  Averaging multiple shots + blocks per game.

Summary

We have a great slate tonight with 10 games on top.  The Hurricanes and Red Wings are my favorite spots for offense tonight.  Both teams should put up a big number.  While I didn’t mention the Maple Leafs they get a great match up tonight, especially if Casey DeSmith is between the pipes.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!
