Utah Jazz

After last night’s NBA slate was turned on its head with many stars ruled out, expect more of the same tonight. Key players are already on their respective team’s injury reports, while others will surely join them. It’s a Taco Tuesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Utah Jazz @ Dallas Mavericks (-6.5)

Utah Jazz (+6.5)

This NBA slate will have plenty of value but the Jazz rotation will go overlooked. In the absence of Collin Sexton, there is amply opportunity for both Kris Dunn and Ochai Agbaji to thrive. Yes, Lauri Markkanen and Jordan Clarkson will lead the charge on offense, but the two will get plenty of action in a thin rotation. Since signing a 10-day contract, Kris Dunn has been phenomenal. The former Providence standout has averaged 13/3.4/4.2 on 54.9% shooting in five appearances, while being the first man off the bench. Moreover, a standout 3-and-D wings in this year’s NBA Draft, Agbaji is finally getting the opportunity he deserves. Over his last seven appearances, he has averaged 28.4 minutes per game. Moreover, this has resulted in a 11.7/2.4/1.6 scoring line, where he has scored in double digits in four of seven appearances.

Dallas Mavericks (-6.5)

While Luka Doncic does not have to be the one taking the final shot anymore, this backcourt duo is awfully enticing on this NBA slate. Make no mistake about it, Doncic has the clear ceiling between the two, given his edge in rebounding and passing the ball. However, Kyrie Irving has quietly been dominant in his short stint with the Mavericks. Over his nine appearances with the team, he ranks third in usage rate at 27.5% and second in scoring with 27.4 points per game. Moreover, he has averaged 27.4/5/7 on a ridiculous 52/41/92 shooting split, which places him in the elusive 50/40/90 club. This matchup is also great for Irving, as Utah struggles mightily off the ball, ranking 25th in net defensive rating versus secondary ball handlers.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Los Angeles Lakers (-2.5)

Memphis Grizzlies (+2.5)

Despite the return of Dillon Brooks after serving his one-game suspension, the Grizzlies are missing many key players tonight. Ja Morant remains out of the lineup, as do both Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke in the frontcourt. While he no longer at the very bottom of the pricing grid, no NBA lineup construction should begin without Tyus Jones. Coming off a 25/3/12 game against the Clippers, Jones has been phenomenal in ten starts this season. During those appearances, he has averaged 19.4/3.5/8.1 on 53.1% shooting. The Lakers rank 28th in the NBA versus primary ball handlers, setting the stage for Jones to be a focal point of lineups once again.

Los Angeles Lakers (-2.5)

There is a lot of uncertainty at the top of the pricing grid. However, this NBA slate adds a second candidate, in addition to Luka Doncic, at the very top: Anthony Davis. While his rebounding numbers have been taking a dip for multiple years in a row, AD is still an elite scorer and interior defender. Against a Memphis frontcourt that will be without both Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke, Davis will be able to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor. Coming off back-to-back 30-point efforts, where he averaged 38.5/6.5/4 across 35 minutes per game, Davis will lead the charge once again for the Lakers.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Washington Wizards @ Detroit Pistons (+6.5)
  • Brooklyn Nets @ Houston Rockets (+7.5)
  • Golden State Warriors @ Oklahoma City Thunder (+4.5)

There are tremendous matchups on this NBA slate. Many elite stars take the court, with multiple injury reports expecting to be lengthy. It’s a Wet Wednesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Golden State Warriors @ Minnesota Timberwolves (+2.5)

Golden State Warriors (-2.5)

The defending NBA Champions are currently slated in the Play-In tournament, but no one in the league wants to face this team. Every game counts for them down the stretch, as they look to creep into a top-4 seed to gain homecourt advantage in the opening round of the playoffs. Steph Curry will continue to lead the way and is in a phenomenal matchup tonight. Minnesota lacks perimeter defense and guarding Curry is a daunting task. Over his last three games, Curry has posted 30 or more points in each appearance. Moreover, he has averaged 35.7/5.7/8.7 on 58.3% shooting during that span, including 53.3% from behind the arc on 5.3 three-pointers made per night.

Minnesota Timberwolves (+2.5)

Anthony Edwards continues to lead the charge for a reeling Timberwolves squad. However, he lacks upside on this slate given his positioning on the pricing grid. Thus, the duo of D’Angelo Russell and Rudy Gobert are enticing in good individual matchups. Edwards will draw Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins on defense, leaving Russell ample room to find his shot. Moreover, Rudy Gobert will take few shot attempts in this one, but has point/dollar upside given his strong chance of getting a double-double. On an NBA slate where most will look to the top of the pricing grid at the center position, Gobert makes for an excellent tournament play.

Sacramento Kings @ San Antonio Spurs (+7.5)

Sacramento Kings (-7.5)

The Kings hold the third seed in the Western Conference but have many teams approaching them. Thus, not even a matchup against the lowly Spurs should be taken lightly. The duo of Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox are both in terrific matchups. San Antonio currently ranks 28th in the NBA versus primary ball handlers and Fox has registered 29 and 32 points, respectively, over his last two games, averaging 30.5/4/5 on 45.1% shooting. Moreover, the Spurs have solid interior defense with Jakob Poeltl manning the paint, but Sabonis will dominate the glass versus a team that sits 20th in the league in rebounding.

San Antonio Spurs (+7.5)

If there is ever a spot to play Keldon Johnson with confidence, it’s in this matchup. While the Spurs continue to look toward the future, Johnson figures to be a crucial piece in their rebuild. Moreover, he leads the team with a 28.1% usage rate this season. Despite a 1-7 record over the team’s last eight games, Johnson has scored 20 or more points in seven of those. He has averaged 25.4/5/2.4 on 48.8% shooting during that span, and gets a matchup versus a Kings defense that ranks last in the NBA versus combo wings.

Toronto Raptors @ Utah Jazz (-3.5)

Toronto Raptors (+3.5)

In the absence of OG Anunoby, other players in this Toronto rotation must step up. Over the last few NBA slates, no one has been as popular as Precious Achiuwa. He has now scored in double digits over his last eight games, averaging 15.6/9.3/1 on 59.3% shooting. The Jazz rank last in the league versus small-ball centers despite ranking second in the league in points allowed in the paint per game. Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam also make for excellent tournament plays.

Utah Jazz (-3.5)

While Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, and Mike Conley have solidified their place in the Jazz rotation, the true value here lies in the paint. Walker Kessler has been having a phenomenal rookie campaign, averaging 7.7/7.3 on 71.5% shooting. Moreover, he sits fourth in the NBA in blocks per game with 2.0. However, with Toronto running a smaller lineup, do not overlook Jarred Vanderbilt. Make sure to check our proprietary projections to see which of the two is set to give the most value.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Portland Trail Blazers @ Memphis Grizzlies (-5.5)
  • Oklahoma City Thunder @ Houston Rockets (+5.5)

There are plenty of great matchups tonight in the NBA. Unfortunately, many players continue to be sidelined with injuries. However, many unfamiliar names have stepped up for their respective teams. It’s a Mojito Monday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Houston Rockets (+6.5)

Minnesota Timberwolves (-6.5)

In the second matchup between these two teams in only three days, all eyes will be on Anthony Edwards. The former #1 overall draft pick exploded for 44/6/4 on Saturday, making him likely to be one of the popular options on this NBA slate. Over his last seven games, Edwards has scored 20 or more points in six appearances. Moreover, he has averaged 27/5.3/5 during that span, shooting 46.9% from the field. With the Rockets ranked 28th in defensive rating, Edwards is set to continue leading this offense.

Houston Rockets (+6.5)

Should Rudy Gobert miss a fourth consecutive game, Alperen Sengun is an elite target in the mid range of the pricing grid. Over his last eight games, Sengun has logged 28 or more minutes in every appearance. Moreover, he has averaged 19.1/11.1/5.9 during that span, displaying both finishing and playmaking ability. With Gobert on the sidelines, Minnesota has a 115.1 net defensive rating, which would currently rank 25th in the NBA.

Charlotte Hornets @ Utah Jazz (-7.5)

Charlotte Hornets (+7.5)

Exposure to the Hornets is contingent on the availability of LaMelo Ball. After missing Saturday’s game with an ankle injury, Ball has since been upgraded to questionable for this matchup. However, should he eventually be ruled out, Terry Rozier will lead the charge on offense. On the season, Rozier is second on the team with a 26.9% usage rate, producing 1.03 fantasy points per minute. However, with Ball off the court, Rozier sees increases to a usage rate of 30.2% and 1.09 points per minute. The Jazz struggle more off the ball than with primary ball handlers, ranking 27th in the NBA versus the former.

Utah Jazz (-7.5)

Although Kelly Olynyk is nearing a return to the lineup, the future of the Jazz in the paint lies in Walker Kessler. Despite having a low 12.8% usage rate on the year, Kessler has been on the best from the most recent NBA draft class. He not only has three double-doubles over his last four games, but he is also averaging 12.5/12.5/1.8 on nearly 70% shooting during that span. Moreover, despite logging 29 minutes per game, Kessler is fourth in the NBA in blocks, averaging 2.0 per night.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Sacramento Kings (+2.5)

Memphis Grizzlies (-2.5)

Memphis is on the second half of a back-to-back so there could be addition to their injury report throughout the day. Believe it or not, this game features two of the best in the Western Conference, as Sacramento shockingly finds themselves in the third seed. Despite an improved defensive system for the Kings, they lack the ability to close out on wings. Thus, Desmond Bane is the player to watch tonight, alongside Ja Morant. The former has battled injuries this year, but has been performing quite well. He carries a 26.7% usage rate on the season, averaging 21.6 points per game in over 30 minutes per night.

Sacramento Kings (+2.5)

While Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox are both worthy on an NBA All-Star selection, it will be tough to fit one of them in NBA lineups tonight with other priorities. Thus, both Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes find themselves as options. The former gets a favorable matchup on the perimeter versus a Memphis defense that ranks 22nd in three-pointers allowed per game. Thus far, Huerter has shot 41.4% from deep, making 2.9 three-pointers per night. Moreover, Barnes has scored 20 or more points in four of his last five appearances. Sporting a 19.1% usage rate during that span, Barnes has averaged 22.8 points per game on 53.2% shooting.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Atlanta Hawks @ Chicago Bulls (-1.5)
  • San Antonio Spurs @ Portland Trail Blazers (-8.5)

Star-studded matchups and teams on the tail end of back-to-backs headline tonight’s action in the NBA. It’s a Thirsty Thursday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Orlando Magic (+6.5)

Memphis Grizzlies (-6.5)

Both of these teams are on the second half of a back-to-back so things will get interesting on the defensive side of the ball. Steven Adams has been dominant on the glass as of late and gets a friendly matchup on both sides of the court. He has three double-doubles in his last four games, averaging 11/19/2.8 on 52.8% shooting. Moreover, the backcourt of Ja Morant and Desmond Bane will be able to work this offense in comfortable fashion, with the latter having a ton of upside on this small NBA slate.

Orlando Magic (+6.5)

The Magic rotations returns to full strength with everyone having served their suspensions. While Bol Bol missed last night’s game as expected, he is a strong candidate to sit once again tonight. Additionally, there are potential rest candidates in Wendell Carter Jr. and Jalen Suggs. There is intrigue to be had despite the tough matchup versus a Grizzlies defense that ranks second in the NBA. Look for updates in Discord once the final injury report comes through.

Utah Jazz @ Houston Rockets (+5.5)

Utah Jazz (-5.5)

This is the best game environment on the NBA slate. Utah comes into tonight having lost a heartbreaker to Sacramento and five straight games, but their offense has been tremendous, averaging 121 points over their last three. Malik Beasley was at the forefront of Tuesday’s article and he came through with 16/6/2 in 30 minutes of play for 33 fantasy points. He is once again in a great spot tonight with Collin Sexton out, as is the trio of Markkenen, Clarkson, and Conley.

Houston Rockets (+5.5)

On the second half of a back-to-back, Eric Gordon is a potential rest candidate for the Rockets. Should he miss this game, the bench gets awfully thin after Tari Eason. It won’t be the first time he’s mentioned and certainly won’t be the last: this is a tremendous spot for Alperen Sengun. On the season, the sophomore is averaging 14.3/8.5/2.6 on 55.1% shooting. With the Jazz ranked 29th in the NBA against centers, Sengun is set to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Boston Celtics @ Dallas Mavericks (+2.5)
  • Los Angeles Clippers @ Denver Nuggets (-6.5)

Only six teams take the court tonight. Thus, it will be crucial to keep tabs on all injury reports throughout the day. A single injury or rotation change can shift the NBA slate.

Washington Wizards @ Milwaukee Bucks (-7.5)

Washington Wizards (+7.5)

Exposure to the Wizards offense remains in question, as Bradley Beal has missed the last three games for his team. Should be make a return to the lineup, he carries the most upside on the NBA slate in the mid range of the pricing grid. However, should he miss a fourth straight contest, the duo of Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma will need to carry this offense. Over their last three games without Beal, Kuzma and Porzingis have led the team in usage rate, respectively, combining for 43 points per game.

Milwaukee Bucks (-7.5)

After practicing on Monday, it looks as though Giannis Antetokounmpo is set to return to the lineup tonight for the Bucks. Additionally, despite still missing Khris Middleton, the Bucks will get more reinforcements, with Jrue Holiday returning after a three-game absence. The Wizards recently changing their starting lineup to include both Porzingis and Gafford. Thus, Bobby Portis is set to get a phenomenal matchup off the bench. Portis comes into this one with four double-doubles across his last five appearances, averaging 15/11.2/1 on 43.9% shooting. In the mid range of the pricing grid of this NBA slate, Portis makes for one of the most intriguing options for tournaments.

Sacramento Kings @ Utah Jazz (-2.5)

Sacramento Kings (+2.5)

Domantas Sabonis picked up right where he left off on New Year’s Day. After averaging 23.4/16.1/8 over his last six games of the calendar year, Sabonis dropped an 18/14/4 double-double on the Grizzlies just a few days ago. Utah currently ranks 29th in the NBA against true centers, while also ranking last in points allowed in the paint.

Utah Jazz (-2.5)

With Collin Sexton slated to miss the next week with a hamstring injury, Malik Beasley will be crucial off the bench. Over his last six games of the calendar year, Beasley scored 10 or more points in four appearances. Moreover, he averaged 14.7/3.3/1.3 on 39.3% shooting. The Kings struggle mightily versus wings, ranking 30th in the NBA to the player type. Additionally, Beasley sees both an increase in usage rate and fantasy points per minute with Sexton off the court.

Honorable Mention:

  • Boston Celtics @ Oklahoma City Thunder (+8.5)

With only four teams taking the court tonight, this NBA slate will be interesting. Not only is one matchup lopsided, but key contributors on both sides of the ball have already been ruled out. It’s a Thirsty Thursday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

San Antonio Spurs @ New Orleans Pelicans (-10.5)

San Antonio Spurs (+10.5)

This game will be more popular than the next one. With injuries to both teams, many players will see an increase in opportunities on the offensive side of the ball. Keldon Johnson is listed as doubtful to play, leaving many chances for other Spurs to produce on offense. On the season, Devin Vassell is second on the team with a 25% usage rate. However, with Johnson off the floor, this number jumps to 26.4%. Additionally, his fantasy points per minute output increases from 1.07 to 1.20 with his teammate off the court. With the Pelicans ranked 25th in the NBA against wings, this is a tremendous matchup for Vassell.

New Orleans Pelicans (-10.5)

There is little doubt that Jonas Valanciunas will be the most rostered player on this NBA slate. Zion Williamson has already been ruled out, in addition to Brandon Ingram being sidelined. Valanciunas is fresh off an offensive explosion, where he dropped 37/18/5 on 58.3% shooting. This was the first time he saw more than 30 minutes since November 9th and he certainly took advantage. The Spurs rank 24th against centers while being 29th in points allowed in the paint per game. Valanciunas has always been efficient, but there was always a minutes concern with New Orleans rolling out smaller lineups. Tonight, with Zion ruled out, Valanciunas will be in for another heavy dose of playing time.

Washington Wizards @ Utah Jazz (-6.5)

Washington Wizards (+6.5)

Exposure to the Wizards offense will be determined by the availability of Kristaps Porzingis. The Washington center missed last game with an illness, and is listed questionable to play tonight. Should he miss, Daniel Gafford instantly becomes one of the best point/dollar plays on the NBA slate with a matchup versus a Utah defense that ranks 29th in the NBA against centers. Moreover, Bradley Beal will be one of the elite targets toward the top of the pricing grid. In his last two games since returning to the lineup, Beal has averaged 28/4/4.5 on 45.9% shooting.

Utah Jazz (-6.5)

Should the availability of Porzingis take you off Beal, roll out Lauri Markkanen with confidence. Through a breakout campaign, Markkanen has now scored 20 or more points in seven of his last nine appearances. Moreover, he has averaged 25.6/7.6/1.8 on 56.9% shooting during that span. The potential return of Collin Sexton complicates the Jazz backcourt, so monitor this injury report and adjust accordingly. If playing Beal with the core listed below, Walker Kessler makes for a tremendous way to get exposure to this offense. Over his last eight appearances, Kessler has logged 20 or more minutes in seven games. Moreover, he has averaged 9.1/8.5/0.6 on 75% shooting during that span. He won’t take a ton of shots, but Washington ranks 18th in the NBA in points allowed in the paint and 16th in rebounding.

Core

  • CJ McCollum
  • Jonas Valanciunas
  • Devin Vassell
  • Pick one (1) of Bradley Beal or Lauri Markkanen
  • DK bonus: Daniel Gafford (if Porzingis out) or Walker Kessler

As was pointed out yesterday, a multitude of players will miss games over the next two weeks. With the holiday period approaching, some teams will take advantage so give their players as much rest as they can. Thus, monitoring injury reports will be as important as ever to succeed in NBA action.

Utah Jazz @ Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

Utah Jazz (-3.5)

With the Jazz on the second half of a back-to-back, this injury report will be important to tonight’s NBA slate. Both Kelly Olynyk and Collin Sexton were ruled out yesterday, and there is a possibility they both miss this game as well. Moreover, Mike Conley is a candidate to receive the night off to rest. Thus, there is interest to be had in the young duo of Walker Kessler and Nickeil Alexander-Walker against a rebuilding Pistons team. This is an elite game environment given that it has the the highest total on the board and the Pistons rank 29th in defensive rating. Moreover, Detroit sits 19th against centers, while being 28th in points allowed in the paint. More to come in Discord once Utah releases their final injury report.

Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

As much intrigue as Walker Kessler carries in this matchup, there is equal, if not more upside with Jalen Duren. Since taking over the starting center spot over Marvin Bagley, Duren has been playing elite basketball on both ends of the court, most notably on the glass. Over his last six games, Duren has logged 24 or more minutes in each appearance. Moreover, he has averaged 9.2/13.7/1.2 on 66.7% shooting during that span, including double-digit rebounds in every game. While he doesn’t take many shots, he is wildly efficient around the rim. Utah ranks 29th in the NBA against true centers and is last in the league in points allowed in the paint.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Denver Nuggets (+1.5)

Memphis Grizzlies (-1.5)

This is the game with all the star power on tonight’s NBA slate. Beginning with Memphis’ point guard, Ja Morant, there is a ton of upside in this matchup. Despite being tossed after a questionable technical foul in his last game, Morant has been elite offensively lately. Excluding last game since he got ejected, Morant has posted 20 or more points in eight of his last nine games before that. Moreover, during that span, Morant averaged 26.1/7.6/9.2 on 44.3% shooting. Denver ranks 29th in the NBA against primary ball handlers, setting the scene for Morant to come back from his ejection with a vengeance.

Denver Nuggets (+1.5)

The only player that will contend with Nikola Jokic to lead the NBA slate in scoring is discussed above. However, with Vegas having this one as a tight contest with a high total, pairing them together is ideal. Jokic is fresh off a ridiculous 40/27/10 triple-double against Charlotte. However, while that stat line will be impossible to replicate, his offensive game has been trending in the right direction as of late. In his last seven appearances, Jokic has scored 30 or more points in five games, with 25 or more in six of seven. During that span, Jokic has averaged 31.9/14/9.4 on 60.1% shooting. He is third in the NBA in total assists and assists per game, giving him yet another opportunity to get a triple-double tonight.

  • Washington Wizards @ Phoenix Suns (-6.5)

Only eight teams take the court tonight but this should be an interesting NBA slate. We have a rematch between New Orleans and Utah, while both Los Angeles and Miami are on the second half of a back-to-back. It’s a Thirsty Thursday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Memphis Grizzlies (-1.5)

Milwaukee Bucks (+1.5)

On such a small NBA slate, it is in your best interest to roster the player leading the slate in scoring. At times, especially on large slates, they may not be in the optimal lineup. However, on smaller slates, raw fantasy points are king. Thus, Giannis Antetokounmpo will be at the focal points of lineups. Giannis has scored 28 or more points in ten of his last eleven appearances, racking up seven double-doubles along the way. During that span, he has averaged 32.8/10.6/5.4 on 55.6% shooting. Memphis has good interior defense, but there is no stopping the Greek Freak when he wants to get to the rim.

Memphis Grizzlies (-1.5)

With Giannis being a priority at the top of the pricing grid, Ja Morant is the odd man out on this NBA slate. He makes for a good play with Jrue Holiday out on the other side of the ball, but rostering the two together limits the upside of your lineup. Thus, exposure to the Memphis offense will have to come elsewhere. Steven Adams has been a wildcard this season given his volatility in minutes and the strength of Memphis’ bench in the frontcourt. However, with Brook Lopez and Giannis on the other side tonight, he will be needed to match the Bucks’ size up front. Adams has a mere 14.1% usage rate on the season and averages 1.02 fantasy points per minute. However, he has averaged 8.6/13.5 when playing over 30 minutes this season, logging double digit rebounds in seven of those eight appearances.

New Orleans Pelicans @ Utah Jazz (+1.5)

New Orleans Pelicans (-1.5)

This is a rematch from Tuesday’s NBA slate and interest remains the same as then. Despite a blowout victory by Utah, Zion Williamson put up 47 fantasy points in a mere 26 minutes. He dominated the paint, as Monday’s writeup illustrated: “The Pelicans are still missing Brandon Ingram but this team is on an absolute tear right now. Not only are the one of the hottest teams in the NBA, but Zion Williamson has been turning heads. Over his last six games, Williamson has scored 25 or more points in each one. Moreover, he has averaged 31.2/9.3/4.8 on 68% shooting during that span through a 29.8% usage rate. With the Pelicans rolling smaller lineups and using Zion at the ‘5’, he’ll get the bulk of minutes in a favorable matchup. Utah currently ranks 28th in the league against centers and last in points allowed in the paint per game.”

Utah Jazz (+1.5)

Similarly to the Pelicans, the approach regarding the Jazz on this NBA slate remains the same. On Tuesday, Nickeil Alexander-Walker was highlighted, despite coming off the bench. He went on to score 35 fantasy points in 25 minutes played with only ten of those points coming in the fourth quarter due to a blowout. Tonight, interest remains in the trio of Alexander-Walker, Kessler, Vanderbilt, and Beasley.

Only ten NBA teams take the court tonight but there is plenty of intrigue. Some of the league’s best will face off against one another, while a few short rotations may steal the show.

Phoenix Suns @ Houston Rockets (+5.5)

Phoenix Suns (-5.5)

Devin Booker is set to miss a second straight game with a hamstring injury. Thus, both Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton will be priorities on this NBA slate. Both have massive point/dollar upside in their respective matchups. With Booker off the floor, Paul will get to run the pick-and-roll even more than usual. Thus, Ayton is a primary benefactor on the inside. Moreover, the Houston Rockets are last against primary ball handlers. Additionally, they rank last in pick-and-roll defense with a league-worst 52.3% effective field goal percentage allowed. No individual statistics needed for this duo; it’s a dream matchup.

Houston Rockets (+5.5)

If you are getting exposure to the Rockets on this NBA slate, duplicate your lineup and make one with Kevin Porter Jr. and another with Jalen Green. However, if choosing between the two, I prefer the latter. On the season, Green leads the Rockets with a 28% usage rate and has averaged 21.6/4/3.8 on 41.8% shooting. Moreover, he has taken 17 or more attempts from the field in his last five games. The efficiency can always be a cause for concern, but there is no doubting his volume tonight.

New Orleans Pelicans @ Utah Jazz (+1.5)

New Orleans Pelicans (-1.5)

The Pelicans are still missing Brandon Ingram but this team is on an absolute tear right now. Utah currently ranks 28th in the league against centers and last in points allowed in the paint per game.

Utah Jazz (+1.5)

The return of Lauri Markkanen to the lineup removes the upside from multiple Jazz. Throughout their last three games, the Jazz have been without multiple players. Tonight, Collin Sexton remains out, but the bulk of this roster is healthy. Thus, it will be interesting to see what the Jazz do with Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Over his last three appearances, NAW has seen a massive jump in minutes and offensive opportunity. Logging over 31 minutes per contest in that span, NAW has averaged 16.3/4.7/3.3 on 58.6% shooting, including 55.6% from deep on six attempts per night. Presumably, he should get the start with both Mike Conley and Malik Beasley coming off the bench, but look for updates in Discord. There is a lot to love about this offense in a competitive game environment on tonight’s NBA slate.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Sacramento Kings @ Philadelphia 76ers (-5.5)
  • Golden State Warriors @ Milwaukee Bucks (-4.5)
  • Boston Celtics @ Los Angeles Lakers (+3.5)

Tonight’s NBA slate is one of the most interesting ones of the season. There are plenty of studs going head to head, while many will fly under the radar despite elite performances lately. It’s a Fajita Friday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Many key players are currently listed as questionable. Should they sit out, the slate can be altered in a drastic way. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Washington Wizards @ Indiana Pacers (-5.5)

Washington Wizards (+5.5)

Kristaps Porzingis will be completely overlooked on this NBA slate. However, he shouldn’t be. Over his last five games, KP has been on an absolute tear. The Wizards big man has averaged 28.8/10.4/2.6 on 50% shooting during that span, while scoring 20 or more points in every appearance. Moreover, he leads the team with a 30.3% usage rate. A tough matchup looms against Myles Turner, but he is listed as questionable. Should he miss this game, Porzingis is set to dominate the paint on both ends of the court. However, Porzingis himself is also questionable, making Kyle Kuzma one of the most popular plays on the slate if the former sits out.

Indiana Pacers (-5.5)

Without hesitation, Tyrese Haliburton is an elite play on this NBA slate. Similarly to Kristaps Porzingis, Haliburton will be overlooked considering the number of studs on this slate. Over his last 14 games, Haliburton has posted double digit assists in 12 appearances with ten double-doubles. However, I also want to highlight Buddy Hield in the midrange of the pricing grid. Over his last three appearances, Hield has averaged 21.7/7.7/3 on 45.1% shooting, including 45.5% from deep. The Wizards currently rank 24th in the NBA in three-point percentage allowed on over 12 makes allowed per night.

Atlanta Hawks @ Brooklyn Nets (-6.5)

Atlanta Hawks (+6.5)

Despite the letdown at the Garden, Trae Young will be one of the most popular studs on this NBA slate. Not only is John Collins still out, but Dejounte Murray has been ruled out for the next two weeks and De’Andre Hunter is questionable to return to the lineup after a three game absence. On the season, Young leads the team with a 34.1% usage rate and has posted 1.31 fantasy points per minute. However, with Murray off the floor, Young sees increases to an outrageous 43.7% usage rate and 1.60 fantasy points per minute. A short memory is key in NBA DFS after poor performances and it certainly applies to Trae Young here tonight.

Brooklyn Nets (-6.5)

Exposure to the Nets offense is far from a must on tonight’s NBA slate. However, Kyrie Irving has massive upside in the midrange of the pricing grid. With the field likely flocking to a player in the same range as Irving in the next game, the Nets point guard will essentially go unrostered. In his last appearance, Kyrie turned in his first 30-point performance since October 29th. The sheer presence of Kevin Durant limits his ceiling, and with the return of Ben Simmons to the lineup, this is a pure tournament play only.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Utah Jazz (-2.5)

Minnesota Timberwolves (+2.5)

The player referred to above is Anthony Edwards. Likely to be one of the most popular options on the NBA slate, be wary in this one. While Edwards has posted phenomenal statistics with Karl-Anthony Towns out over his last three games, the majority has come in unsustainable practice. Edwards has three straight games with 26 or more points while Towns has been out, averaging 27/4.7/5.7 on 48.3% shooting. However, he has topped 50 fantasy points in two of three games, large in part to his ridiculous 5.67 steals per game during that span. Moreover, Utah ranks 6th in the NBA in turnover percentage, taking care of the ball nearly every possession they can.

Utah Jazz (-2.5)

Exposure to the Jazz is already interesting with Collin Sexton ruled out. However, should Lauri Markkanen miss a second straight game, Jordan Clarkson and Malik Beasley will shoulder the load on offense. We need to take a wait-and-see approach here, but Utah is one of the most key injury reports to monitor on this NBA slate. Look for updates in Discord once we get confirmation on Markkanen and Mike Conley.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Sacramento Kings @ Cleveland Cavaliers (-5.5)
  • Los Angeles Lakers @ Philadelphia 76ers (-3.5)
