We are at TPC Twin Cities, a rather pedestrian course that makes decisions for you. You have a place to miss that’s still a good shot and a place to miss that’s a bad shot. Basically there just isn’t much guesswork. There is water on 15 holes which makes this layout tougher than your average PGA or resort course. Approach and SGOT will count more towards the top. With 156 players and most of the marquis players resting up for the FedEx, this will be a week to sort the “sometime has” from “never has” The following golfers fit that criteria- Novak, EVR, Finau, Poston, Mitchell, Davis, Griffin, Hadwin, Greyserman, and Springer—More will be added/deleted once ownership comes out.

This course has had a mini makeover since the last Open in 2016. Roughly 200 yards was added to make the course just short of 7400 yards. This was added to combat the equipment advantages. The front nine is to get as low a score as possible and the diabolical back 9 is to try and hang on to whatever birdies you got on holes 1-6. The major change is to hole 10, where the new back tee makes the drive blind. The key to finding the eventual winner is previous success in Opens. The following golfers fit that criteria. Scottie, Rahm, Fleetwood, Xander, Morikawa, Rory,Finau, Lowry, Aberg, Conners, CBEZ, Henley, Perez, and Bhatia. Others will be added once ownership is projected.

Guess what? Jordan Spieth is in this tournament! Did I mention Spieth is coming? There’s also a PGA player who hasn’t had his card updated since 1998. He’s playing in his first tourney in 26 years. Expect more of that type of golfer in this match. There are only six players in the OWGR top 40 this week. Glover, McCarthy, Day, Spieth, Straka and IM. This is another TPC course with wide fairways, receptive greens and not to many hazards. (water on 3 holes) Some of our pool includes the above with Poston, Johnson, Merritt, Griffin, Rai, Kizzire, Power, Kraft, Ryder, Hisatune and Silverman. If there was any week to play the Studs and Cruds this would be it. In fact, fading the cream at the top isn’t a bad idea according to our game theory guru. Bombers do well and it actually boils down to who gets hottest with the putter between 5 and 17 feet. If you have a favorite bottom feeder that can putt, put him in play. Two sisters inherit the family ranch. Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble. In order to keep the bank from repossessing the ranch, they need to purchase a bull from the stockyard in a far town so that they can breed their own stock. They only have $600 available.

The older sister says, “I’m going to take the bus to the stockyards since you need the pick-up truck. When I get there, if I decide to buy a bull, I’ll contact you to bring the pickup truck and trailer and haul it home.”

The older sister arrives at the stockyard, inspects a bull, and decides she wants to buy it. The man tells her that he will sell it for $599, no less. After paying him, she makes her way to the nearest town to send her sister a telegram telling her the news.

She walks into the telegraph office and says, “I want to send a telegram to my sister, telling her that I’ve bought a bull for our ranch. I need her to hitch the trailer to our pickup truck and drive out here so we can haul it home.”

The telegraph operator said he’ll be glad to help her, then adds, “It’s 99 cents a word.” Well, after paying for the bull, she only had one dollar, enough to send one word.

After a few minutes of thinking, she nods and says, “I want you to send her this word: comfortable.”

The operator shakes his head. ‘How is she ever going to know that you want her to hitch the trailer to the pickup truck and drive out here to haul that bull back to your ranch if you send her just the word “comfortable?”

She explained, “This is a big word for my sister. So she’ll read it very slowly… sounding it out as com-for-da-bull.”
