NHL Playoff Play-in Preview

Welcome to Zak’s Puck Picks!! I started in Cash with Flash Handicapping Challenge and have been heating up. I am super excited to keep the momentum going and win some serious money talking Puck Picks with all of you!

As cook by trade and hockey as a passion since I was 3 years old, let’s get some puck picks in the oven and make some dough shall we?

With the news coming down today from commissioner Gary Betman, that the NHL will go ahead with their 24 team NHL Playoff Play-in, it is time to look at some of these matchups and see what we can exploit. With thanks to Sports Illustrated and Westgate Sportsbook in Nevada, I was able to uncover some early betting odds to break down. Let’s look at the matchups;

Eastern Conference:

  • Columbus Blue Jackets +140 vs Toronto Maple Leafs -160
  • Montreal Canadiens +170 vs Pittsburgh Penguins -190
  • New York Rangers +130 vs Carolina Hurricanes -150
  • Florida Panthers -120 vs New York Islanders +100

Western Conference

  • Winnipeg Jets -110 vs Calgary Flames -110
  • Edmonton Oilers -150 vs Chicago Blackhawks +130
  • Arizona Coyotes+105 vs Nashville Predators -125
  • Minnesota Wild +120 vs Vancouver Canucks -140

Now with this new system and playing in two different hubs, there really will not be any “home ice advantage” and will be strictly broken down into how teams play. This adds a bit of a wrench into handicapping as these teams are basically staring from training camp, however there are a few numbers in these series I will be looking to take advantage of, and here is why.

New York Rangers+130
Since the beginning of the 2019 season, the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers have played each other seven times. The Hurricanes have only come out a winner in one of those contests. The one time they played in 2020 was a five to two victory for the Rangers in Carolina. The defensive health is the key to this series I feel. If Dougie Hamilton can come back healthy and shore up some of the Hurricanes defensive woes, that might be enough to flip this series. I feel the Rangers have the upper hand in this matchup.

New York Islanders +100
Both the Islanders and the Florida Panthers were playing some questionable hockey before the break and neither team looked geared for a long run into the playoffs. These two teams play very different styles from each other. The Panthers play a more up tempo offensive style, where as the Islanders like to make life hard in the defensive zone and capitalize on their counter attack and constant pressure. Goaltending will be the key to this series and even though he has been brilliant in the past, Sergei Bobrovsky just hasn’t found that level in Florida this season. I believe the defensive minded New York Islanders have a legitimate edge in this series.

Nashville Predators -125
The Nashville Predators were one of the hottest teams going into the break. Jussi Saros had taken over the puck stopping duties from goal scoring tender Pekka Rinne and had seem to rejuvenate the Predators. Arizona has struggles to find comradery and consistency all season and have had issues putting the puck in the net. While Arizona’s defensive stats are impressive they ranked 23rd in the league in goals for per game. With both teams healthy as the should be come return, I give the edge to Nashville in the series.

I am very excited to join this team of highly skilled people at Win Daily. If you have any further questions, please feel free to find me on the Win Daily Discord chat (@Zak PRB) or on Twitter (@PRBpuckpicks) Thank you to you all for reading, let’s go make some bacon.

NFL Player Total Prop Bets

Sia and Michael make some NFL Player Total Prop Bets for the 2020 season.
You can find lines and over/unders at DraftKings, FanDuel, and Monkey Knife Fight!

Sia’s Picks

Drew Lock over 3375.5 (-110 on DK)

  • @StixPicks likes this one too (needs to average 211 yards per game)
  • Defense isn’t good enough to be lockdown so Drew will have all four quarters to throw the ball in most games
  • All kinds of weapons with Jeudy, KJ Hamler and Sutton and Fant
  • Plus two RB’s that can catch in Lindsay and Melvin

Kenyan Drake over 1050.5 rushing yards (-110 on DK)

  • Hate RB props because of injury risk but this one seems worth it.
  • No major competition for Kenyan (Chase Edmonds is backup)
  • Arizona continues to add weapons on the outside which should free up more space
  • If Kyler runs and Read-Option it’ll give freeze the LBs and give Drake the alley he needs to make one cut and fly.
  • Note Jason likes the value in Arizona at 60 to 1.  If you look at schedule they can get to the playoffs. Tough but doable.
  • Note Kyler passing prop is 3950.5. He probably gets there but like this one better.

Davante Adams over 1200.5 yards (-110 on DK)

  • 997 yards in 12 games last year.  Couple of which he was hobbled
  • 2018 he played 15 games and got 1386 yards
  • GB going to be more of a running team this year BUT Davante is a lock for major targets if healthy.  If he plays 14 games he clears this number.  13 games and it’s still possible.
  • He’s still only 27
  • Last two games (playoffs) he caught 9 of 10 for 138 and 8 of 11 for 160.  Expect a few dud games from Davante but enough huge ones to hit the number

Michael’s Picks

Drew Brees Passing Yards o/u – 4049.5 yds – UNDER -112 (FanDuel)

  • Hasn’t hit 4000 yards since 2017.
  • Another year older.
  • Hurt the last two seasons and Taysom Hill comes in to throw the ball sometimes
  • Based on defensive efficiency for 2020 Saints offense is in the bottom half of the league (23rd)
  • Also harder based on 2020 SOS from Vegas Win Totals (23rd)
  • Balanced run/pass attack, not quite what we remember when they were throwing the ball 650 times a year.
    • Last two years: 2019 – 581 to 407; 2018 – 519 to 471

Dalvin Cook Rushing Yards o/u – 1160.5 – OVER -110 (DraftKings)

  • CONTRACT YEAR
  • Finally healthy last year, only missed two games both towards the end of the season
  • Rushing Def against in the top half of the league. If receivers can do anything theyll be able to run as much as they’d like
  • Stephanski is leaving but Kubiak had the heaviest hand in creating that offense last year.
  • Strength of schedule is easier than average, hopefully leading to more leads late in games and opportunities to run out the clock.
  • Nick thinks Mattison and Boone are going to take away carries, but I think Cook hits the over here

Henry Ruggs III Receiving Yards o/u – 740.5 – OVER -112 (FanDuel)

  • No other wide receivers there…
  • Route runner not just a straight line speed guy
  • Darren Waller TE was their leading receiver last year with 90 catches for 1145 yrd – most likely some regression there
  • No wide receiver topped 50 catches – Renfrow had 49
    • Immediately comes in as the best receiver on the team
    • Averaged 17.5 yr/r – if he averages 3 catches a game for 17.5 yards he beats out the 740.5 total
  • Bowden will be more of a gadget play
  • Never topped 750 in college, but also had 3 other incredible receivers on that team and didn’t need to play all that much in most second halves

Go ahead and place your bets  👉 👉 👉 DraftKings and FanDuel

Win Daily Show Interview with Keith McDonnell

On this Win Daily Show Interview with Keith McDonnell, he and Michael Rasile discuss sports betting around the world!

Keith McDonnell joins Michael Rasile to discuss his career in the sports betting space. Keith started over in the UK before moving over here to the United States. Keith helps sports betting companies from a consulting perspective to make sure that they can become successful. He is the CEO and Founder of KMi Gaming.

Keith is able to connect groups of people to make sure that things are getting done. He has helped companies from Asia, Europe, as well as many here in the United States. Keith discusses how the different markets enjoy to bet and how he as a consultant needs to understand what needs to be done.

He helps us understand the different betting markets around the world, how mobile is changing the game, and how in-game betting is different around the world. With 5G and faster internet speeds become more prevalent, betting companies have a unique opportunity to engage fans. Faster speeds allow for quicker updates to apps giving the best possible information to users.

In-game betting has also become significantly more popular because fans feel they are “smarter” but also because it’s not as time sensitive.

The Match: Champions for Charity Event

The Match: Champions for Charity Event will be played between Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning against Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady tees off at 2pm EST on May 24th live on TNT.

Tiger/Phil Brady/Manning – Sia’s picks and plays for the event this weekend

The Match will be a match-play event, meaning each hole will be an independent contest. The format will be four-ball on the front nine (each player will play his own ball, and the best ball wins the hole) and Brady and Manning will get three handicap strokes on the nine. The back nine will be a Modified Alternate Shot format (everyone will tee off and the players will alternate playing the ball they choose).

This will be a fun EVENT for charity and give us ENTERTAINMENT much like the match Phil and Tiger played last November. If you’re looking to throw a few dollars on “The Match” I have you covered. Keep in mind that this is ultimately a charity event, so it may not be the spot to throw down the mortgage, but as you will see below, I think I’ve found a couple of angles worth taking.

Shop for the best line! After checking a couple of our favorite books, I saw some disparity between what you can get in terms of odds. So if there is a side you’re leaning to heavily, make sure to get the line you want!

I like Tiger and Peyton in this event. Tiger is better than Phil and Peyton is better than Tom Brady by approximately two strokes. Brady has also been in the midst of moving teams and cities, while Peyton has been presumably taking it easy, which likely includes several golf outings.

Tiger/Peyton v. Phil/Tom
-186 v. +160
-200 v +160
-220 v. +175

Most birdies – Tiger v. Phil (Tiger -145)
If you’re looking for a fun sweat that will last the entire match, this might be the bet for you. Phil is no stranger to going for the birdie, but I suspect Tiger will be locked in for most of the match as he is technically coming off a loss to Phil last November.

Woods and Manning to Win Hole #10 (-135)
Woods and Manning to Win Hole #11 (-135)

If you’re putting down a few bucks check out some of the lines over at DraftKings and FanDuel.

The front nine is likely to be the more playful nine. Once the golfers make the turn, it will truly be a team effort with the modified alternate shot format, and this is where you are likely to see the better golfers prevail. I wouldn’t be shocked if Tiger and Manning are trailing going into the back nine and then start to turn on the intensity. I like them to lock in for the first true team holes.

BallStreet Trading

Our friends over at BallStreet will be running a real-time market for “The Match.”

There will be both a free contest and a paid entry (no rake) contest for players to join. We recommend entering both as you have twice the opportunity to win a fairly nice cash prize considering it’s free and a low entry format.

Free contest prizes will be $20 to everyone in the top 10 with $2 prizes given out to the rest of the top 20%.

Paid entry will be $10 (no rake) with a $100 prize given to everyone in the top 10%.

Markets have been created for each team and trade based on the win probability as decided by the market. Remember there are no outside APIs, data or models creating the pricing. Only the other players in the market.

BallStreet has IPO’d the match in line with current implied odds of around 2:1 in favor of Woods and Manning. Markets opened with Woods and Manning at §65 and Mickelson and Brady §35.

The biggest factor will be how well Manning and Brady are on the day. Manning has a listed handicap of 6.4 while Brady is listed at 8.1. Couple this with the different aspects to the match (5th hole teams must only just a single club) and we have the chance for almost anything to happen.

The early trading seems to be buying up Mickelson and Brady looking for value but after tee off Sunday the real market begins. If you are planning on watching golf this weekend BallStreet could be a great compliment giving you a chance to check out one of the newest and most innovative startups in the space while winning a little money for your trouble.

UFC 249 Picks

Y2JAYWEEZY’s UFC 249 Picks

Here are the UFC 249 Picks for the May 9th fights.
Check the website for other UFC Picks.

Spann 9300 vs Alvey 6900
Sam Alvey is basically a gatekeeper in the UFC nowadays. Too keep this short and sweet Spann will win this fight with ease but at his price he has to get a first round KO. I believe he can do it but won’t be so heavy on him in my lineups.
WINNER – SPANN

Mitchell 8500 vs Rosa 7700
This fight is between two tough grapplers in the UFC. Both of these guys could submit each other in the first round. Mitchell doesn’t throw strikes at a high volume and if this fight stays in the feet that worries me. Rosa is a BJJ black belt and a great submission grappler. My pick is Rosa just because he has a better pedigree of Jui Jitsu and a better striker if this fight was to stay on the feet. Mitchell is an undefeated fighter so keep that in mind when making lineups. His only finish is a submission and Rosa has never been submitted.
WINNER – Rosa

Luque 9000 vs Price 7200
This is a very interesting rematch. Luque was able to get the submission against price in their last bout. Luque is a very high volume striker with good submissions. Price is a wildcard. He has power to finish a fight he probably could finish Luque. With Luque at 9000 he has to finish to meet value. Price at 7200 could meet value easy but only play him if you think he can upset Luque based off your own research. I’m thinking Luque gets this done nice and easy.
WINNER – Luque

Esparza 8400 vs Waterson 7800
Both of these fighters have a grappling based approach. In a win they most likely won’t meet value. They don’t throw strikes at a high volume or don’t have any KO power. This fight will be a decision most likely and the winner might be Esparza based on the odds. I’m picking Waterson just because she has a better striking output than Esparza.
WINNER – Waterson

Werdum 9200 vs Oleinik 7000
Werdum is pretty much a lock for me. He is just a 10 times better version than Oleinik. He should get the finish easy. Keep in mind Oleinik is a sneaky submission artist but Werdum is a former heavyweight champ.
WINNER – Werdum

UFC 249 PICKS!

Pettis 8200 vs Cerrone 8000
This fight is pretty much a 50/50 for me. I have no idea who will win. Pettis can’t handle pressure and Cerrone lost against 3 of the best 155 pound fighters on the planet. You’re choice here .
WINNER – 50/50

Hardy 8500 vs De Castro 7600
This fight is kind of iffy for me. De Castro is a former Kickboxing world champion and is coming off a KO win vs Tafa. He has the power to finish fights but Hardy isn’t the type to get KOed. He showed toughness against Alexander Volkov who is a top heavyweight. He has the drive to win. I’m not to heavy on this fight but if I was to pick I would go De Castro because he has a better striking background than Hardy.
WINNER – De Castro

Kattar 8900 vs Stephens 7300
This will be Kattars first real test at someone with KO power. Stephens is on a 3 fight losing streak and Kattar is coming off a loss. Both fighters need a win but one more than the other. Kattar has smooth hands and can put together punches very smoothly. His only problem is defending leg kicks. Stephens has the power to put this fight away but he doesn’t fight at that high of a pace. I don’t know how well Kattar scores without a finish. Stephens hasn’t been finished since Jose Aldo but I believe Kattar can get the job done.
WINNER – Kattar

Ngannou 9100 vs Rozenstruik 7100
This is a battle between two KO artist. Both can KO each other in a flash . For Ngannou to meet value he has to get a first round KO. This fight will go ham or flop completely like Ngannou’s last fight against Derrick Lewis. If this fight makes it out of round one Rozenstruik could win but I’ve never seen Ngannou hurt. This fight is a 50/50 in my eyes.
WINNER – 50/50.

Cejudo 8800 vs Cruz 7400
This is a 5 round war that could score high. A stack wouldn’t be that bad. Cejudo has been evolving his striking game a lot lately and could keep up with Cruz. He is on a tear and momentum is everything. But Cruz is an Anomaly. Maybe the greatest Bantamweight ever. If he wins this fight he will be. I think Cejudo will bring the pressure but Cruz will match it. You could go either guy cause Cejudo has the heart and determination to win. But Cruz is a technically sound and smart fighter. I would call this is a 50/50 but I’m gong. Cruz because of his IQ and he provides a pretty bad matchup for Cejudo because of size. But size doesn’t matter.
WINNER – Cruz

Ferguson 8700 vs Gatheje 7500
This maybe fight of the year. Two badass fighters going head to head for the Gold . Anything could happen. Gatheje throws with power and intent to kill. Ferguson throws moderately but has good damage in his punches. Gatheje could honestly win this fight by KO. But Ferguson is a robot and is on a 12 fight win streak. I see him beating Gatheje down the stretch but that doesn’t mean I’ll be right. This fight will be a war and anything could happen but my gut is Tony Ferguson. Gatheje throws at a high volume but he eats too many punches. If this fight goes all 5 both fighters may score very very well. It’s your choice. You can pick one or stack it.
WINNER – Ferguson

Win Daily Show Interview with Jeffrey Schwartz

On today’s Win Daily Show Interview with Jeffrey Schwartz, he and Michael discuss Jeff’s career in sports talk radio.

Jeffrey got into the game back in the early ’70s and moved around a bit during his career. He spent some time as a producer, he spent time in sale, and in promotions allowing him to see all aspects of the business.

Along the way, Jeff owned a couple different companies where he consulted for other media companies in the space. Each time he was roped back into the corporate world.

In 1979, Jeff was working in Chicago and was apart of the team that created the infamous “Disco Demolition” when over 60,000 people showed up to Cominsky Park to burn disco albums. If you’ve never seen or heard anything about the “Disco Demolition” we highly suggest you listen. The promotion was a great one to get people to go to the White Sox game, but they we’re hoping for 20,000 attendees for this to be successful. In between the double-header, the promo was for rock and roll fans to bring their least favorite disco album to the park and it was going to get blown up. The ended up getting over 60,000 people to show up, they lit the field on fire, and the White Sox had to forfeit the second game.

Jeff was also apart of one of the first Sports Betting radio stations in the country where everything they spoke about centered around one of our favorite pastimes.

Win Daily Show Interview with Ani Sridhar

On this Win Daily Show Interview with Ani Sridhar, he tell us how he was able to land a dream job as a producer at SiriusXM.

Ani joins Michael to discuss his career getting into the production side of radio. Ani has been with SiriusXM for over three year during two different stops there. In between, he was a writer for the University of Maryland sports programs. He has always enjoy the sports media side and realized that one of his favorite aspects was through spoken word.

He has great stories of how he was able to finally get his job at SiriusXM and why he wanted (needed) it so badly! If he didn’t get it graduation may have been in question… Ani also discusses what it was like working multiple jobs at once with the worst possible hours just to make sure he was making enough money and keeping his name relevant. Sleeping in his car for a few hours was considered a good night. He also knows what it’s like to work the overnight shift. This gave him great perspective on what it takes to make it in the job because everyone before him had to do it, and so will everyone after him.

Ani is now a producer at SiriusXM and talks about what goes into being a producer and how its really a 50/50 split between him and the hosts on how to put on a show. Ani was our producer for the Win Daily Show, which is why he is such a good friend. He has aspirations of being the talent eventually and has even started his own podcast to craft his skills. His dedication to getting better at producing and speaking his points is another reason why we appreciate him so much!
