1/11 NHL Favorite Lines

Montreal One – “Nick Suzuki ($5,500), Cole Caufield ($6,100)” – TWO MAN ONLY

It’s not often that the Montreal Canadiens are featured in the Hot Shot. In fact, this is likely their first appearance this season. However, I think that we have the perfect storm tonight. First off, the Canadiens play host to one of our favorite punching bags, the San Jose Sharks, and they are -155 favorites in a 6.5 projected total matchup. Next, they happen to have one of the hottest lines in the NHL. Montreal’s top line is currently tied for fifth among all NHL lines in terms of SATF “135” over their last ten games.

The next part comes down to lineup construction and salary considerations. As always, we have two center spots to fill so all else equal we have to give that some weight. Nick Suzuki’s price is fair at $5,500 and he’s had strong production with 34 points in 39 games “12 goals and 22 assists”. The fact that it so easy to pass on Juraj Slafkovsky “only 14 points in the same 39 games” helps make for an easy decision.

Of course, if we’re going to use this line, we’re also going to use Cole Caufield. At $6,100 he seems like a bit of a bargain. While his 27 points in 39 games so far this season are underwhelming for what we might expect from him, he has been much better as of late and is due for a big game. Between filling a center spot and utilizing moderate salaries with upside, so far, we are off to a good start.

Carolina One – “Sebastian Aho ($7,200), Andrei Svechnikov ($5,800)” – TWO MAN ONLY

Let’s start with the setup. The Hurricanes are -350 favorites hosting the Ducks in a projected 6.5 total matchup. On these bigger slates we like to target two-man lines and in some situations like Montreal’s which we previously covered, it’s an easy decision which two skaters to use from the selected line. I similarly think this line sets up similarly. While this line over has had middling stats, the two selected skaters listed above stand out.

Sebastian Aho “$7,200” is the tenth highest priced active center on DraftKings on this slate. However, within his past six games he has put up totals of 22.5, 27.5, 26.0, and 29.5 DraftKings points with at least three real life points in each of those efforts. He is clearly hitting his stride just in time for this soft matchup and also fills our second center spot.

Speaking of hot, at only $5,800, Andrei Svechnikov feels like a steal given his recent production. He has double-digits DraftKings points in six of his last seven games. This includes three performances finishing up with 24.5, 22.8, and 36.0 “hat trick” DraftKings points respectively.

You’d think with his linemates going wild, Teuvo Teravainen “$4,500” would luck into some points, right? Given how putrid he has been I will take a hard pass and pay the extra $1,300 for Svechnikov. I think any further thoughts I have regarding Teravainen are perhaps better left unsaid.

Winnipeg One – “Nikolaj Ehlers ($6,800), Gabriel Vilardi ($5,700)TWO-MAN ONLY

When you’re a -440 favorite in a single hockey game, that speaks volumes. While their matchup with the Blackhawks only has a six total, it is no surprise where most of the goals are expected to be coming from. This line ranks tenth among NHL lines over their last ten games in terms of SATF “128” and is tied for sixth in goals “8”.

It is hard for me to stomach Mark Scheifele’s price at $6,900. Also, as of the time of writing, there has been no clarification regarding his status after an ear injury he suffered the other night. Given that this isn’t the soft NBA and instead it’s the NHL, I’d assume he will tough it out and play.

Since we don’t need any more centers, let’s turn to the two wings, Nikolaj Ehlers “$6,800” and Gabriel Vilardi “$5,700”. Both of the wings share additional correlation on Winnipeg’s first powerplay unit. Given the odds tonight, it’s a fair assessment to say the Jets may have a few powerplay opportunities. Although the price on Ehlers has snuck up a bit over the last few weeks, his production has also increased across that span. Vilardi has not been quite as good as Ehlers but has been solid and saves us $1,200 from Scheifele and these are savings we need.

1/11 NHL Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Lukas Cormier – Vegas -$2,700 – We need very, very cheap defensemen to make everything work salary-wise. Currently due to all of the Golden Knight’s injuries, Cormier, only one game into his NHL career thus far is slated as quarterback of the Golden Knight’s top power-play unit. He grabbed an assist his first time out while seeing nineteen minutes of ice time and we’re just not going to get similar upside for this price.

Nick Perbix – Tampa Bay – $2,800 – Definitely not a sexy pick, but Perbix is contributing in a number of different ways between providing some assists and blocking shots, hence the 5.2 DraftKings points per game average. He fits salary wise and if you use every other player listed in this article your lineup will have $0 left remaining and cannot do any better.

Goalies

This is a rough slate for goalies, so I think the idea is to pay down a little bit as you’re not losing much passing on the highest priced goalies. With as many games as there are I was shocked to like so few goalies.

Adin Hill may be an option if he returns but then we have to keep eyes peeled and the Bruins aren’t the easiest matchup to return to face. Furthermore, were also a bit salary challenged if you used all six main skaters listed.

Alex Lyon – Detroit – $7,200 – I don’t mind Alex Lyon for $7,200 in a boom or bust matchup hosting the Oilers. He is already confirmed to start in net and has a stellar 2.51 GAA and .920 SV % this season. That said being confirmed so early and due to his price he may be chalky and can get blown up given as the seven projected total indicates.

Thatcher Demko – Vancouver – $7,400 – This where I’m currently leaning. We know Demko is a stud “2.54 GAA, .916 SV %”, he is fairly cheap at $7,400, the Canucks are close to even money in this matchup and the Penguins allow the most DraftKings points to opposing goalies. Much like Alex Lyon above, he may get blown up here. However, if taking some chances, I prefer to take them against the Penguins rather than Edmonton.

1/11 NHL Best Bet

Florida ML – (-135) – DraftKings – Facing the Kings who are traveling to the east coast, we have a team that has won eight straight hosting a team that has dropped six straight. While the law of averages isn’t absolute, for such close odds backing the Panthers makes sense.

Tonight, we have the first edition of the Hot Shot for 2024. We have a large slate with thirteen games and there are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. Aside from reading this 1/4 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

1/4 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Pittsburgh Penguins (+140) at Boston Bruins (-166)6 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo Sabres (-130) at Montreal Canadiens (+110)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Chicago Blackhawks (+310) at New York Rangers (-395)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+154) at Philadelphia Flyers (-185)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Vancouver Canucks (-135) at St. Louis Blues (+114)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (+105) at Nashville Predators (-125)6 Projected Goal Total

Colorado Avalanche (+105) at Dallas Stars (-125)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Tampa Bay Lightning (-130) at Minnesota Wild (+110)6.5 Projected Goal Total

New York Islanders (-115) at Arizona Coyotes (-105)6 Projected Goal Total

Florida Panthers (+105) at Vegas Golden Knights (-125)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (+110) at Seattle Kraken (-130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Detroit Red Wings (+160) at Los Angeles Kings (-192)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Jets (-258) at San Jose Sharks (+210)6 Projected Goal Total

1/4 NHL Favorite Lines

Los Angeles One – “Anze Kopitar ($5,700), Trevor Moore ($5,900)” – TWO MAN ONLY

The Kings are in a good spot, -192 money line favorites in a 6.5 total matchup. However, with the top two lines recently mixed up, there’s a tough decision to make. One could even make an argument for the third line which cannot be said of many teams. Our first decision comes down to which center Anze Kopitar or Pierre Luc-Dubois for $2,200 less in salary. Kopitar is averaging a point per game (34 points in 34 games) whereas Dubois has failed to live up to prior seasons standards with 14 points in those same 34 games.

With Trevor Moore’s move up from the second to top line that sort of seals the deal for me how to approach this. Moore is having a career year with 17 goals to date matching his prior season high with plenty of games left to add to it. His $5,900 salary is very fair considering his upside. He has slowed down over his last two games but gets an exploitable matchup tonight.

New York Rangers Two – “Alexis LaFreniere ($4,200), Artemi Panarin ($8,500)” – TWO MAN ONLY

If betting on ownership, the Rangers should be the chalk of the slate. They are whopping -395 money line favorites hosting the Blackhawks, and this is where we will spend a little salary. You can remove any thoughts of a surprising season for the Blackhawks as only San Jose has been worse this season. Chicago will enter the night 2-7-1 over their last ten games, 140 goals allowed “third worst in the NHL” and recent highlights which include getting smoked 8-1 by the Dallas Stars. Turning back to the Rangers, none of their lines is riding hotter than the second line at the moment. They are second in the NHL in SATF over the last ten games.

Now turning to how to use this line, it gets a little trickier. Given that we already have Kopitar, I don’t think we’re that pressed to fill the second center spot. Vincent Trocheck has been good for $5,900 but has mainly been an assist man with only nine goals to his 24 assists. In his five of his last seven games, he’s scored under ten DraftKings points overall. I think we’re better off saving money with Alexis LaFreniere “they butchered his last name in this graphic above”. He has more goals “ten” than Trocheck and saves $1,700 in salary at $4,200. Overall, he provides us much more cost-efficient exposure to this line and this game.

Winnipeg One – ” Mark Scheifele ($6,800), Nikolaj Ehlers ($5,800)TWO-MAN ONLY

Did someone say Sharks? Winnipeg’s top line is third among all NHL lines in SATF over the last ten games and has the potential for a huge game tonight. I don’t really think as tempting a matchup as this one is necessary to make you want to plug in Nikolaj Ehlers. He had a slow start to the season but has been compensating recently and is underpriced at the moment. Over his last nine games he’s averaging around four shots on goal per game and has a great chance for a big game tonight.

If it was possible, I wouldn’t mind using the streaky Gabriel Vilardi to fill things out; however, lineup restrictions just won’t allow it. Mark Scheifele’s numbers have been a bit overwhelming, but he is still averaging a point per game (36 in 36 games). He also fills our second center spot. He has been fairly cold over his last four games but may wake up tonight given that the Sharks have allowed the third most points to centers this season. Both Scheifele and Ehlers share additional correlation on the Jet’s first power-play unit.

1/4 NHL Defensemen and Goalie

Defensemen

Jordan Spence – Los Angeles -$2,700 – Our build only leaves $2,800 per defenseman so have to really slum it somewhere to make it all work. Spence is capable of putting up an assist on occasion “12 this season”. He also shares correlation with Trevor Moore on the King’s second power-play unit. For this price, we don’t need a whole lot more.

Will Borgen – Seattle – $2,800 – There’s many skaters in this range and little ability to distinguish one guy from the next. I think I will go with Borgen since he can get on the board a couple of ways. He has 14 points in 38 games so not horrific for a sub-$3,000 defenseman of his ilk. However, he also has the potential to block shots too to make up for things on the nights where he isn’t getting anything going at the other end.

Goalie

Jacob Markstrom – Calgary – $7,500 – We need to spend down at goalie tonight in order to fit our build so that’s one consideration. The fact we can do that and grab a goalie from one of the six total games and from only a slight underdog helps. Markstrom has been spectacular over his last seven games since returning from the IR with a .936 save percentage. His .265 GAA on the season is also stellar, my only concern here is shot volume but there’s a few other ways he can compensate for that.

1/4 NHL Best Bet

Florida ML – (+105) – DraftKings – A rematch of the finals as Florida returns to what was a house of horrors for them. However, the Panthers come in riding a five-game win streak and will be motivated to make amends at plus money odds.

Tonight, we have the last edition of the Hot Shot for 2023. We only have four games but there are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. Aside from reading this 12/28 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

12/28 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Montreal Canadiens (+210) at Carolina Hurricanes (-258)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Philadelphia Flyers (+136) at Vancouver Canucks (-162)6 Projected Goal Total

Los Angeles Kings (+105) at Vegas Golden Knights (-125)6 Projected Goal Total

Edmonton Oilers (-310) at San Jose Sharks (+250)7 Projected Goal Total

Carolina One – “Sebastian Aho ($7,200), Tera Teravainen ($4,800), Andrei Svechnikov ($4,900)

The Edmonton lines “more below” make a lot of sense here too but if you want, you can fit them with this line. Given that the Hurricanes are -258 money line favorites on the four-game slate and two of the three skaters are sub $5,000 in price, this line should be very popular. The game has a projected 6.5 total, and it is clear which side is expected to produce most of that. Carolina went wild against Nashville and will come in with that momentum on the second half of a back-to-back. With the small slate and all, unlike on a bigger slate, I think it makes sense to use the full line here.

12/28 NHL Favorite Secondary Line

Edmonton One – “Connor McDavid ($9,500), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($5,600)TWO-MAN ONLY

I am not a fan of how the Edmonton second and third lines are dispersed with one star apiece. So, with that said, it may be a bit chalky but let’s roll with the Oiler’s top line. I probably don’t need to go too deep in detail here as even a casual NHL fan is likely familiar with their talents. Edmonton is the largest favorite on the slate by a country mile at -310 and we have a seven projected goal total for their visit to the Shark tank. They do take up a ton of salary but that’s part of why pairing them with Carolina One makes sense. As is we cannot fit in Zach Hyman as he puts us over the cap. There’s a reason why they’re expensive; over their last ten games, they lead all NHL lines in SATF.

Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Jalen Chatfield – Carolina -$2,700 – Unlike in last night’s article we have very little salary wise to spend on defensemen tonight. You can drop all the way down to the “pickle” Marc-Eduard Vlasic at total rock bottom salary wise, but I’ll at least spend the extra $200 on Chatfield who is at least capable of something.

Calen Addison – San Jose – $3,000 – Another cheap defenseman who has a shot to get on the board. Currently Addison sees time on the Shark’s second power play unit. As good as they are offensively, the Oilers are certainly not known for their defensive prowess.

Goalie

Thatcher Demko – Vancouver – $8,100 – It just makes sense to pull from one of the six total games. The Canucks are -162 money line favorites facing the Flyers and Demko should grab the start. His numbers have been absolutely stellar this season with a 2.46 GAA and .917 SV%. Since we don’t have anyone from Philadelphia “or this game” he correlates with the picks listed above.

12/28 NHL Best Bet

Kings/Golden Knights – O 6.5 – (-110) – DraftKings – This should be the best game of the night from a competition standpoint, and I expect some fireworks.

The NHL returns from the holiday break with one of the biggest slates of the year. We have fourteen games and there are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. I highly suggest against running full three-man lines tonight and instead recommend pivoting to two-skater pairings. Aside from reading this 12/27 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

12/27 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Boston Bruins (-155) at Buffalo Sabres (+130)6 Projected Goal Total

Florida Panthers (-108) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-112)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (+145) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-175)7 Projected Goal Total

Washington Capitals (+180) at New York Rangers (-218)6 Projected Goal Total

Pittsburgh Penguins (+105) at New York Islanders (-125)6 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+215) at New Jersey Devils (-265)7 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (-162) at St. Louis Blues (+136)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Detroit Red Wings (+124) at Minnesota Wild (-148)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Hurricanes (-135) at Nashville Predators (+114)6 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Jets (-225) at Chicago Blackhawks (+185)6 Projected Goal Total

Colorado Avalanche (-162) at Arizona Coyotes (+136)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Seattle Kraken (+124) at Calgary Flames (-148)6 Projected Goal Total

Vegas Golden Knights (-225) at Anaheim Ducks (+185)6 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (+280) at Los Angeles Kings (-355)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Los Angeles Two – “Phillip Danault ($4,400), Trevor Moore ($5,900)– Two-Man Only

What can I say when all I have to say is “facing the Sharks”. Los Angeles’s -355 money line odds stand out by a mile, even on a fourteen-game slate. If we’re going to plug in three 2-man lines than one of them is going to be from the Kings. Both of the King’s top two lines have been solid as of late. The top line is ninth among all NHL lines in terms of SATF over their last ten games. However, the second line is fourth among all NHL lines by the same metric.

The key pieces on the first line Anzi Kopitar ($6,100) and Adrian Kempe ($7,100) are fairly pricy. For reference, Kempe has nine goals, 19 assists on the season. Meanwhile Trevor Moore ($5,900) has been less of a setup man with 16 goals, 9 assists for $1,200 cheaper. Phillip Danault ($4,400) has not exactly been tearing it up but has seven goals, 13 assists, is very cheap, and fills one of the two center spots for us.

12/27 NHL Favorite Secondary Line

Columbus One – “Adam Fantilli ($3,900), Johnny Gaudreau ($4,200)” – Two-Man only

This is the sort of slate where I’ll want to find a way to jam in some stars. The path to getting there involves a couple of spenddowns. Let’s start here. The defensively challenged Blue Jackets are big underdogs at +215, visiting New Jersey. However, offensively there has been a bit of a turnaround lately, despite Patrik Laine’s absence. This game has a seven total and the Devils have been generous on the other side of the ice. Their 115 goals allowed this season is tied for sixth worst in the NHL.

While still not quite his former self, Johnny Gaudreau ($4,200) comes in riding a three-game point streak. As for Adam Fantilli ($4,000), he has scored a point in three of his last four. We are probably grabbing the third overall pick in the 2023 draft for as cheap as he will be moving forward in a good matchup. With the salary savings we add here, we can do anything moving forward.

Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Brock Faber – Minnesota -$4,300 – Faber is on the top line and is quarterbacking the Wild’s top power-play unit as well. In addition, as of late, he is getting nearly thirty minutes of ice time. I am not of fan of how their lines are put together for DFS purposes, but this gives us some Minnesota exposure. With a lot of lower projected scoring games tonight, it gives us access to a favorite in a 6.5 total matchup.

Morgan Reilly – Toronto – $5,900 – We have some money tonight, so don’t need to double punt here. You can also consider Victor Hedman ($5,500) but Reilly is very fairly priced and gives us some Toronto exposure on a night they are -175 favorites in a seven total game. This all said Cale Makar ($8,100) is too rich for my blood, so I think one of the two defensemen mentioned as high as I’ll pay up.

Goalies

Ilya Sorokin – New York Islanders – $7,900 – With so many six projected total games on the slate, let’s start there. While at -125, the Islanders aren’t as big a favorite as some others, this has potential for goalie upside. I’d expect the Penguins to get their fair share of shots, so hope for a low scoring game in which Sorokin is the main reason that the Islanders win.

Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers – $8,100 – Igor is picking things up at the right time. The Rangers are heavy favorites tonight and should help him grab the win. Some of the other low total games have questionable goalie situations so this makes sense.

12/27 NHL Best Bet

Boston – 60 Minute ML (-110) – DraftKings – The straight money line at -155 is a bit too rich but the 60-minute line is much fairer.

We’re less than a week out from Christmas but let’s see if we can grab some early presents “or extra money for presents” from tonight’s slate. We have twelve games and there are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. I highly suggest against running full three-man lines tonight and instead recommend pivoting to two-skater pairings. Aside from reading this 12/21 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. 12/21 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Toronto Maple Leafs (-162) at Buffalo Sabres (+136)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Vegas Golden Knights (-102) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-118)6.5 Projected Goal Total

St. Louis Blues (+180) at Florida Panthers (-218)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Nashville Predators (+100) at Philadelphia Flyers (-120)5.5 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Hurricanes (-122) at Pittsburgh Penguins (+102)6 Projected Goal Total

Washington Capitals (-120) at Columbus Blue Jackets (+100)6 Projected Goal Total

Edmonton Oilers (-105) at New Jersey Devils (-115)7 Projected Goal Total

Vancouver Canucks (+114) at Dallas Stars (-135)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Montreal Canadiens (+180) at Minnesota Wild (-218)6 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (+150) at Colorado Avalanche (-180)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (-148) at Anaheim Ducks (+124)6 Projected Goal Total

Arizona Coyotes (-155) at San Jose Sharks (+130)6 Projected Goal Total

Toronto One – “Auston Matthews ($9,900), Matthew Knies ($3,600)– Two-Man Only

It was too tempting to turn back to Toronto again against the struggling Sables, although we will be switching lines. Last Thursday the pair of Mitch Marner and John Tavares came through for us, but I think now we pivot elsewhere. Simply put, it is hard to avoid Auston Matthews.

If playing any cash games, he is a must play. Over his last five games he has 34.4, 41.5, 35.8, 29.3, and 29.4 DraftKings points and now he gets this soft matchup. I usually hate spending up like this on any one player, but he is locked in. In a world without salary, William Nylander would get plugged in next. However, we need some salary savings and Matthw Knies at only $3,600 brings plenty of that, if nothing else. Hopefully some of Matthew’s magic can rub off on him tonight.

12/21 NHL Favorite Secondary Line

Florida Two – “Sam Bennett ($4,900), Carter Verhaeghe ($6,200)” – Two-Man only

As far as other popular options go, the Panthers have even better money line odds and give us the option of two lines to pull from. However, it is hard to pull the trigger on either of Florida’s lines has they have been really underwhelming for their prices. Matthew Tkachuk has been a shell of his 2023 playoff self with only five goals in 31 games and the team’s other star, Aleksandr Barkov, is also underperforming.

The most cost-efficient way to go about it is to pair Sam Bennett who has been underperforming as well, with Carter Verhaeghe who certainly has not been. He has been on fire as of late and should be in a position to take advantage tonight, all for the moderate price of $6,300. In terms of actual goals scored, this line is tied for fifth in the NHL over the last 10 games. For their combined two-man price on tonight’s slate we may make out with some solid points per dollar.

Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Devon Toews – Colorado -$5,300 – For as long as Cale Makar remains out and Toews doesn’t get ridiculously expensive, you play him. He is quarterbacking the Avalanche power play for a very fair price. While it’s shocking that he has not done more with his opportunities perhaps he is waiting for his writeup in the Hot Shot to go crazy.

Jalen Chatfield – Carolina- $2,600 – This is just price enforcement. In two of his last three games, Chatfield has 14.9 and 14.1 DraftKings points. If we get anything close to that, we’d have to be very happy.

Goalies

Carter Hart/Samuel Ersson – Philadelphia – $8,000 – The Flyers are in a 5.5 projected goal total game so that’s a great start. Philadelphia is a -120 favorite at home. It seems Carter Hart will return from illness either tonight or for Friday’s game on the back-to-back. However, no matter which goalie starts they have both been putting up strong numbers and that should continue here.

Charlie Lindgren – Washington – $7,900 – He is already confirmed in net with Washington coming in on the second night of a back-to-back. Lindgren has burned us over his last couple of starts but the 2.45 GAA/.925 SV% are still very strong despite the regression. This is a soft matchup with a projected total of six.

12/21 NHL Best Bet

Vancouver/Dallas – Under 6.5 (-110) – DraftKings – I usually try to cap manually before seeing the totals, had this at six and was surprised it was set for over that. It probably shouldn’t be.

The Hot Shot comes into tonight (12/14) on the second half of a back-to-back and we have a really nice size eight-game Thursday slate. There are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. I highly suggest against running full three-man lines tonight and instead recommend pivoting to two-skater pairings. Aside from reading this 12/14 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. 12/14 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Carolina Hurricanes (-148) at Detroit Red Wings (+124)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+235) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-290)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Washington Capitals (+114) at Philadelphia Flyers (-135)5.5 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (-110) at St. Louis Blues (-110)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (+120) at Minnesota Wild (-142)6 Projected Goal Total

Tampa Bay Lightning (+130) at Edmonton Oilers (-155)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Florida Panthers (-115) at Vancouver Canucks (-105)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Chicago Blackhawks (+195) at Seattle Kraken (-238)6 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Two – “John Tavares ($6,600), Mitch Marner ($6,900)– Two-Man Only

The Maple Leafs stand out tonight by a wide margin. No favorite on the slate is even close to Toronto’s -290 money line odds and this game has a 6.5 projected total. The Blue Jackets have been singing their same old song this season, scoring enough but performing woefully on the defensive end. So far this season, Columbus has allowed 106 goals, which is tied for second worst in the league.

It is tempting to go with the Leaf’s first line here and jam in Auston Matthews. However, he eats up a lot of salary I think we’re better served going more balanced on this slate. If you have a cheap line in mind that you’d like pair with Toronto One, go for it. Otherwise let’s roll with the second line who has been putting up similar peripheral numbers to the top line. Mitch Marner went wild on Tuesday night after a slow stretch, so perhaps we will catch the beginning of a heater. Tyler Bertuzzi is very cheap, but he has been so bad that I think we’re just going to have to pass on using the full line or substituting him in for one of the other two skaters listed above.

12/14 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

St. Louis One – “Robert Thomas ($5,400), Jake Neighbours ($4,100)” – Two-Man only

Most of the top lines for tonight’s bigger favorites and higher scoring games are prohibitively expensive. One notable exception is the 6.5 projected total between Ottawa and St. Louis. This game is even money with both team’s odds listed at -110 apiece. The Blues top line has been slightly rearranged but has been doing damage as of late. Over the last ten games, they are tenth among all lines in the NHL in SATF. Jordan Kyrou has switched places with Pavel Buchnevich, but this line still packs a punch.

Ottawa may win this game given the Blues overall poor form, but perhaps not without this line leaving its mark. Given that Kyrou has not done much, I think we turn to our friendly neighbor or Neighbours. At only $4,100 he is very chap considering he has ten goals on the season. If you use all four skaters listed so far, you’re left with $5,300 per skater and thus shouldn’t have any problems jamming in some extra talent.

Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Mikhail Sergachev – Tampa Bay -$4,900 – Unfortunately, this is a late game, so we will have to wait on injury news. However, if Victor Hedman remains out, this is a no brainer. In a worst-case scenario, even if Hedman is in, it is not that bad a play given that Sergachev has double-digit DraftKings points in four of his last five games.

Jake Sanderson – Ottawa – $4,200 – As we keep exploiting injury situations, here’s one that helps us mini game-stack the Ottawa/St. Louis game. Thomas Chabot is on the IR once again and Jake Sanderson seems to be filling his role in entirety. I just think that this is a game we want exposure to and we have a bit more salary for defensemen tonight.

Goalies

Carter Hart – Philadelphia – $8,200 – This game profiles as low scoring; they had me at 5.5 projected goal total. It’s rare that you see those anymore. Philadelphia is a -135 home favorite and Hart simply put makes sense. He has won three straight starts and boasts a strong 2.42 GAA for the season.

Darcy Kuemper – Washington – $7,300 – If you want to be a bit more wild, you could try the netminder on the other side in the 5.5 projected goal total game. Kuemper has not been up to his prior standards this season but that can always change in the blink of an eye.

12/14 NHL Best Bet

Philadelphia (-135) – DraftKings – Look for the Flyers to prove the oddsmakers right and grab the home win.

Tonight, we have a nice sized five-game Wednesday slate. There are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. Pricing is based on DraftKings pricing but in most instances applicable to FanDuel. Aside from reading this 12/13 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

12/13 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Pittsburgh Penguins (-162) at Montreal Canadiens (+136)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Boston Bruins (-105) at New Jersey Devils (-115)6 Projected Goal Total

Anaheim Ducks (+195) at New York Islanders (-238)6 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo Sabres (+180) at Colorado Avalanche (-218)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Jets (+150) at Los Angeles Kings (-180)6 Projected Goal Total

Pittsburgh One – “Sidney Crosby ($7,500), Jake Guentzel ($7,300)– Two-Man Only

This line has been on a roll this season. Tonight, Pittsburgh is one of the biggest favorites on the slate as the Penguins are at -162 as they visit Montreal. This also one of two 6.5 projected total games on the slate. They continue to lead all NHL lines in SATF “348” and not by any small margin as illustrated below. The price is fair given that they have slowed down a bit. However, this seems like a spot where they can put some numbers. I think you plug in Sidney Crosby for the $7,500 price tag and then given Bryan Rust’s absence, you could pop in Drew O’Connor for salary savings if trying to get a little crazy and jam in Colorado. However, he has not done much even with opportunities, so Jake Guentzel is the ideal pairing.

12/13 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Islanders Two – “Brock Nelson ($6,200), Kyle Palmieri ($4,100)” – Two-Man only

It’s time to turn to one of my favorite salary saving lines. You can totally spend up on Colorado tonight, but I’d rather save money with the other hefty favorite. The Islanders come in -205 money line favorites hosting the Anaheim Ducks who travel to the east coast for this one. This line, particularly, the two man-version, has been solid all season. On the season, they are in the top ten among all NHL lines in terms of SATF as you can see above. They are also currently in the top ten over the last ten games as you can see below. After plugging the two of them in, were left with $4,980 left per skater and can expect to slum it for at least one defensemen spot. If you add the defenseman and goalie listed below you are set up well to be able to add in a third two-man line of your own or a pair of one-offs.

Defenseman and Goalie

Defenseman

Kevin Shattenkirk Boston- $3,100 – Filling in for Charlie McAvoy on the Bruin’s top power play unit. I am not a huge fan of how spread-out Boston’s lines are, but Shattenkirk makes sense as obvious value.

Goalie

Conor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg – $7,300 – I don’t mind this move for tournaments. The Jets are heavy underdogs at +150 but Hellebuyck remains stellar. He’ll carry a 2.45 GAA and .915 SV % into tonight. He should be peppered with shots and that usually checks the first box off for tournament upside.

12/13 NHL Best Bet

New Jersey Devils (-115) – DraftKings – Boston is dealing with a lot of injuries here. Let’s take the Devils at home and by the way, Timo Meier ($5,400) is one of my favorite solo plays of the night in DFS.

The Hot Shot comes into tonight (12/7) on the second half of a back-to-back and we have a huge thirteen-game slate. There are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. Given the size of this slate, I highly suggest against running full three-man lines and instead recommend pivoting to two-skater pairings.

Aside from reading this 12/7 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

12/7 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

San Jose Sharks (+240) at Detroit Red Wings (-298)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo Sabres (+220) at Boston Bruins (-270)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Maple Leafs (-135) at Ottawa Senators (+114)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Los Angeles Kings (-218) at Montreal Canadiens (+180)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+170) at New York Islanders (-205)6 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (-142) at Washington Capitals (+120)6 Projected Goal Total

Tampa Bay Lightning (-115) at Nashville Predators (-105)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Anaheim Ducks (-125) at Chicago Blackhawks (+105)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Jets (+130) at Colorado Avalanche (-155)6 Projected Goal Total

Philadelphia Flyers (-102) at Arizona Coyotes (-118)6 Projected Goal Total

Minnesota Wild (+110) at Vancouver Canucks (-130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Hurricanes (-122) at Calgary Flames (+102)6.5 Projected Goal Total

New Jersey Devils (-155) at Seattle Kraken (+130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Detroit One – “Dylan Larkin ($8,000), Lucas Raymond ($5,100)– Two-Man Only

We can start with the obvious part; facing the San Jose Sharks. In most cases that is all that needs to be said regarding a line being both popular and in a good spot to score goals. Tonight, the Red Wings are the largest favorite on the slate at -298 in a projected 6.5 total matchup. There is a decision to be made between which of Detroit’s top two lines. After a full evaluation, I’m siding with the top line.

For the second line, Patrick Kane ($5,500) will be making his Red Wings debut. He will have the comfort of a former Blackhawk teammate of his, Alex DeBrincat. However, with both lines priced nearly equally, give me the top line which provides us with the team’s best player in Dylan Larkin ($8,000) who also fills one of our two center spots. For the pairing, it is suggested Lucas Raymond be added to complete the two-man line. Larkin has 24 points (ten goals, 14 assists) in 22 games this season and Raymond has 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) in 24 games, so both are hovering around a point a game. With the plus matchup tonight, integrating them makes a lot of sense.

12/7 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Philadelphia One – “Sean Couturier ($5,400), Tyson Foerster ($3,600)” – Two-Man only

Unless your name is Jon Love, you probably haven’t seen much of the Philadelphia Flyers. At least in DFS articles or more specifically winning DFS articles. However, this line has been on fire as of late. They are second among all NHL lines over the last ten games in terms of SATF, one of the more important peripheral stats. Tonight, they are on the road in what is a near-pick ’em matchup with the Coyotes. You shouldn’t be going with any full lines tonight to begin with, but I would limit this one to a two-man even if it was a three-game slate as opposed to thirteen games. Sean Couturier comes in riding a three-game point streak and fills a center spot for $5,400. As for Tyson Foerster, he is beyond cheap at $3,600 and comes in on a three-game goal-scoring streak. For $3,000 less than Travis Konecny he also shares time with his linemates on the Flyer’s top power-play unit as well. The use of this two-man line in addition to the Detroit line listed above allows a lot of salary flexibility to fill out the rest of our lineups.

Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Devon Toews – Colorado -$4,500 – Cale Makar is unlikely to place once again. You know what that means? Chalk Devon Toews night as people turn to Makar’s fill-in. In the last three games, he has seen a whopping 27 minutes of ice time in each. While he has not done much during that span, hopefully, tonight is the breakout.

Luke Hughes – New Jersey – $4,200 – Luke Hughes continues to quarterback the Devils top power-play unit. With Dougie Hamilton out he also sees some extra ice time as compared to earlier this season. Hughs is also still very affordable. When we see his pricing a year from now, it will be markedly different.

Goalies

Semyon Varlamov – New York Islanders – $8,200 – After a torrid start to the season, he has slowed down a little bit. However, he still boasts a strong 2.50 GAA and .927 SV % and should get the nod tonight after Ilya Sorokin was in the net Tuesday night. The Islanders are heavy home favorites at -205 in one of only three six projected totals of the thirteen games on this slate.

Sam Montembeault – Montreal – $7,100 – High risk, high reward. I think for $7,100 like most, I’ve played worse goalies. It’s a tough matchup but there should be plenty of upside based on shot volume. Sam Montembeault has been playing well coming into this, with three straight wins (four of his last five) and a stellar 2.66 GAA for the season.

12/7 NHL Best Bet

Dallas 60 Minute Line (+105) – DraftKings – Even on the back-to-back, you have to like the Stars here versus an inferior team.

Tonight, we have a relatively small four-game Wednesday slate. However, there are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. The target strategy involves three pairs of two-man lines as listed below. Pricing is based on DraftKings pricing but in most instances applicable to FanDuel. Aside from reading this 12/6 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

12/6 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Dallas Stars (+100) at Florida Panthers (-120)6 Projected Goal Total

Pittsburgh Penguins (+110) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Vegas Golden Knights (-155) at St. Louis Blues (+130)6 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Hurricanes (+100) at Edmonton Oilers (-120)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Edmonton Two – “Leon Draisaitl ($7,900), Evander Kane ($5,900)– Two-Man Only

Seeing Leon Draisaitl priced under $8,000 sort of seals the deal here. The idea is that we’re the beneficiaries of some positive regression that is bound to happen. Given his production this season, I think Evander Kane is a bit undervalued at $5,900. More likely than not, he will be very popular on this slate. After popping these two in your lineup you still have an average of $5,171 left per player and we can add a bit of salary to that by paying down at defensemen. Since they don’t share any power-play correlation, it makes sense not to take it any further than the two-man pairing.

Pittsburgh One – “Sidney Crosby ($7,500), Bryan Rust ($6,600)– Two-Man Only

If looking for pivots off of this a two-man pairing of Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust makes sense and is similar in price. Crosby had a big game with a goal and 5 shots on goal a week ago against tonight’s opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning. They have certainly been productive this season, leading all NHL lines in SATF “in terms of recent form, they are 7th among lines over their last ten games”. I also don’t mind the idea of trying to pair them with Edmonton listed above.

12/6 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Carolina Two – “Andrei Svechnikov ($5,100), Jesperi Kotkaniemi ($4,400)” – Two-Man only

If you insert the two lines listed above, you probably need to fill things out with something a bit cheaper. I think we’re getting a very fair price here on these two. It is a good matchup with an Oilers team that can give up goals as much as they score them. I would prefer Teuvo Teravainen to Jesperi Kotkaniemi all else equal but the salary difference is needed here. Conversely if looking to free up an extra $200 for other spots, you can also turn to Teravainen over Andrei Svechnikov. I am sort of leaning on Svechnikov’s upside here as I think a breakout should be coming soon.

Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Jalen ChatfieldCarolina -$2,600 – There’s just no money on this slate for anything but a punt. Jalen Chatfield has been seeing a bunch of added ice time at the expense of Tony DeAngelo. Considering he is only $100 over the minimum price, he helps us resolve part of our salary problem.

Goalies

Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh – $7,400 – Given salary limitations at goalie as well, we will be swinging for the fences. Tristan Jarry has had a decent season but most notably is one week removed from a monster game against Tampa Bay “39.3 DraftKings points”. The Penguins are +110 road underdogs here in a matchup where the shot volume should be there.

Jordan Binnington – St. Louis – $7,200 – If dropping even lower salary-wise than Jarry, we can turn to Jordan Binnington. Similar to Jarry in the narrative listed just above, Binnington just faced his opponent “Vegas” on Monday night and put up 25.6 DraftKings points with a win. St. Louis is a +130 underdog but this isn’t David and Goliath and it is expected Binnington will face plenty of shots.

12/6 NHL Best Bet

Pittsburgh/Tampa Bay – O 6.5 (-110) – DraftKings – However it shakes out, this one is likely to get us to a seven total. Hopefully, it’s Pittsburgh One doing most of the damage.

It’s the end of November and tonight, we have a huge fourteen-game slate. There are lots of options to choose from and we will cover a few of them below. Given the size of this slate, I highly suggest against running full three-man lines and instead recommend pivoting to two-skater pairings.

Aside from reading this 11/30 NHL DFS article, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS Projection Model which is available every morning. If you like what you see, sign up for more Win Daily content here.

11/30 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

*All odds and player pricing below have been obtained from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of the time of writing*

Chicago Blackhawks (+185) at Detroit Red Wings (-225)6.5 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (+380) at Boston Bruins (-500)6 Projected Goal Total

Pittsburgh Penguins (+120) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-142)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Florida Panthers (-225) at Montreal Canadiens (+190)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Seattle Kraken (+160) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-192)6.5 Projected Goal Total

New York Islanders (+164) at Carolina Hurricanes (-198)6 Projected Goal Total

New Jersey Devils (-155) at Philadelphia Flyers (+130)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo Sabres (-105) at St. Louis Blues (-115)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Minnesota Wild (+102) at Nashville Predators (-122)6 Projected Goal Total

Colorado Avalanche (-205) at Arizona Coyotes (+170)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Edmonton Oilers (-122) at Winnipeg Jets (+102)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (-135) at Calgary Flames (+114)6 Projected Goal Total

Washington Capitals (-110) at Anaheim Ducks (-110)6 Projected Goal Total

Vegas Golden Knights (+100) at Vancouver Canucks (-120)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Boston One – “Pavel Zacha ($5,300), David Pastrnak ($9,800)– Two-Man Only

The Bruins have been struggling as of late and the Sharks have overall been writing the ship. However, the odds don’t lie and tonight Boston comes in a -500 home favorite. There has been some rearranging of lines due to the B’s recent struggles. While the graphic above does not represent it, the struggling Brad Marchand was allegedly moved down to the third line. However, this is why we stick to a two-man pairing, which we would anyway given the size of this slate.

Both Pavel Zacha and Pasta also share time on Boston’s top power-play unit along with their even strength correlation. If there was ever a get-right spot, it seems like this might be it for the Bruins. Zacha has 16 points in 21 games so far this season “7 goals, 9 assists” while Pasta has been a stud per usual with 31 points in the same 21 games “13 goals, 18 assists”. Pasta is priced through the roof but Zacha’s price helps to offset this a bit.

11/30 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line

Arizona Two – “Nick Bjugstad ($3,900), Lawton Crouse ($4,400)” – Two-Man only

Because of the price of Pasta, we are going to have to sneak in a lower-priced two-man here. That said, we aren’t looking to sacrifice upside, only the floor. It’s time to embrace the call of the wild and a team we don’t normally see on here but let’s roll out some Coyotes. Not just any Coyotes, but Arizona’s second line. I think you take Nick Bjugstad to fill a center slot and from there pick one of the two wings. Lawton Crouse has 13 points in 20 games but ten of those have been goals. Matias Macclli by comparison has 16 points in 21 games but thirteen of those have been assists. Therefore, it seems like Crouse is the one getting fed the puck and is the priority of the two unless you need the $800 savings.

Currently, over the last ten games, this line is 10th in the NHL in terms of SATF (107). Aside from Arizona Two, I also like pulling from Florida Two “Matthew Tkachuk is expensive but a two-man line of Sam Bennett ($4,400) and Carter Verhaege ($5,700) is doable. The Panthers are -225 favorites in Montreal and there is a projected 6.5 total so hopefully some goals can be captured from that game as well.

Defensemen and Goalies

Defensemen

Conor Timmons – Toronto -$2,500 – He has only played three games so far this season and has done nothing of note. However, John Klingberg is out and Mark Giordano will be out as well. Connor Timmons should see some power-play time with the second power-play unit for the Leafs along with a bump in ice time. Best of all, he is the minimum price. The Maple Leafs are hefty -192 money line favorites hosting the Kraken with a 6.5 projected goal total. Another cheap option is Ben Hutton ($2,700) who should continue to see added ice time for Vegas but I think Timmons has more offensive prowess (14 points in 27 games last year).

Luke Hughes – New Jersey – $3,800 – Luke Hughes continues to quarterback the Devils top power-play unit. With Dougie Hamilton questionable for tonight’s game, he may also see some extra ice time. However, most importantly he is sub $4,000 as we continue to spend down on defenseman in order to spend up elsewhere.

Goalies

Jeremy Swayman – Boston – $8,600 – For a little extra money, Boston is a -500 favorite here, something you don’t see in the NHL too often. Jeremy Swayman is already confirmed in the net very early for this one as he seeks to redeem himself from a poor showing Monday night. His 2.38 GAA and .924 SV % are outstanding as Boston seems to continue to be stacked/blessed at goalie.

Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg – $7,500 – For the price, worth a gamble in tournament formats. We know Edmonton can rack up shots so this play is high risk, high reward. However, Connor Hellebuyck has put up strong numbers (2.61 GAA, .908 SV %) this season and the game isn’t too far off of a pick-em with the Jets at home.

11/30 NHL Best Bet

Dallas 60 Minute Line (+110) – DraftKings -I hate turning to a favorite above -120 but the Stars should win this one. So since we’re looking for a bit more juice than the -135 money line we can take them to win in regulation.
