NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 02/13

With the Super Bowl just a few hours away, the NBA did the smart thing and laid low with their schedule today. We only have two games before the main event of the evening the roundtable format is back for the NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 02/13!

One thing I want to clarify based on the questions I have received over the past few years is that I will never list a player under the $5,000 price tag simply because I use the projection model to identify all targets in this range and below. While there are often plenty of options that I like at $5,000 and less, since I often find myself with not only one – but multiple – in my NBA DFS lineups, you all have access to the very model I use to make my own selections, so when asking yourself: “Should I use player X or player Y?”, make sure to check the model because that is how I make all of my own decisions and I truly ride or die by it on a daily basis.

Before running to the DraftKings, FanDuel, or Yahoo lobby to construct your NBA DFS lineup after reading this article, please make sure to utilize the abundance of tools we have at Win Daily:

Question 1: “Which approach are you taking when building a single lineup? Stars & Scrubs, Balanced, Game stack, etc.?”

Ghost: There is no player above 10K on DraftKings tonight and truthfully, I don’t see a single scenario where I look to pair two or three of Trae Young, Karl-Anthony Towns, and/or Jayson Tatum together, defaulting me to a balanced lineup in the upper midrange.

Adam: With there not being a stud to spend on past Trae Young (and even then he’s only $9,800) as far as salary this afternoon, it should be a mostly balanced approach with no real need to jam in three star players that cost an arm and a leg.

Question 2: “Which stud is a lock for you on this slate?”

Ghost: Unless Malcolm Brogdon (Achilles) makes his return to the Pacers lineup, Tyrese Haliburton will be a building block for me in the game environment to attack. He only had a 22.3% usage rate in his Pacers debut, but Haliburton looked as good as ever, taking the reins of what will soon be his franchise. His ability to score the ball and dish the rock to surrounding shooters like Buddy Hield and Chris Duarte makes him the most appealing player for me on this slate.

Adam: Lock is not the right word, but I am going to be overweight to the field on Jayson Tatum. The Hawks allow the sixth-most attempts in the isolation play type and Tatum attempts the fifth-most shots in iso plays. Now, he’s shooting under 38% this year but Tatum can cook like few others in the league. With Atlanta sitting in the bottom-five in defensive rating, that’s enough that we can possibly get him as the highest scorer on the slate.

Question 3: “Which stud are you most likely to fade in a single-entry contest or be underweight on in 150-max?”

Ghost: I’ve been saying this on nearly every slate that the Celtics are on, but they’ve quietly had the league’s best defense in the calendar year. With Marcus Smart still in the fold after the trade deadline, I’ll be underweight on Trae Young, where the majority of the field will do the opposite.

Adam: There is a very good opportunity to fade Young as Ghost says. I would be stunned if he’s not the most popular player on the slate with John Collins out for the Hawks, I will also likely be lower than the field on the Minnesota “Big Three” of Anthony Edwards, D’Angelo Russell, and Karl-Anthony Towns if they all play because it’s near impossible to pick the right one on a given slate.

Question 4: “If you had to pick one star and one value play to be in the winning lineup, who would they be and why?”

Ghost: Tyrese Haliburton and one of Danilo Gallinari or Onyeka Okongwu. I touched on Haliburton above, and the Hawks will be more of a value play for me tonight, not only because John Collins (foot) is out, but also because I still want exposure to their offense by fading Trae Young, even if it is in a limited fashion.

Adam: Tatum and Clint Capela. Technically, Capela is not a traditional value but at $5,100 on DraftKings that is a value. We talked recently on the live show that there’s going to be a game where he goes nuts and this could be the spot. Collins is out and Boston runs their center Robert Williams an average of 30 minutes and he pushed 38 in the most recent game for the Celtics. Capela is going to be needed on the floor to help combat him and Boston is just 18th in rebounds allowed in the paint.

Question 5: “Give us a hot take for tonight’s slate.”

Ghost: Haliburton, Duarte, and Hield combine for 60 raw points in a winning effort at home.
Adam: Tatum drops 35+ real points as the Celtics chug along to their eighth straight win.

NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 02/12

We get 10 games tonight and one of the first aspects that jump out is the top end of the pricing grid is absolutely loaded. It’s going to be a tough call about which stud to choose from and hopefully, we get some strong value to snag two of them. We’ll see what comes along during the day in the NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 02/12 but we can start highlighting some spots we love now!

Grizzlies at Hornets

Grizzlies – If you don’t want to play Ja Morant against the Hornets, I’m not sure exactly what else to tell you at this point of the season. Yes, the choice of expensive players is plentiful tonight but Morant inherits one of the best spots possible and has 1.41 FPPM when Dillon Brooks is off the floor. Charlotte is 29th in points allowed in the paint this season and Morant is still leading the league in points off drives to the hoop at 14.7 points. For context, Deandre Ayton of the Suns (a strong play himself tonight) leads the league in points scored from paint touches at 12.8. Morant is scoring more than the highest-scoring big man in the paint, which will never cease to amaze me. These teams are top seven in pace this season and the total is already 234, so if you don’t go with Morant there are plenty of other options. I’m not terribly opposed to Jaren Jackson or Desmond Bane at their salaries but Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke are not expensive enough. Big men torment the Hornets and both big guys in this lineup can post massive scores in under 25 minutes. They are both over a point-per-minute player and we know that the Hornets don’t know how to defend any big guy (or anyone, really). Clarke is very interesting because he would be a little better suited if Memphis plays small with the Hornets.

Hornets – We saw a bit of an aberration last night when both LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier scored nearly 70 DK points each, but the Hornets also put up over 140 real points but they also shot a combined 19-32 and Rozier came out of nowhere for just his second triple-double ever. I would caution against thinking those outcomes are the norm and preach that if you want exposure to this game, it’s Ball and nobody else or you go with 1-2 other players (Rozier, Miles Bridges, Kelly Oubre) and hope Ball is underwhelming. Both P.J. Washington and Montrezl Harrell make sense at their salaries and both played at least 22 minutes last night. Washington held the edge at 29 minutes and until Gordon Hayward is back, there are minutes to go around.

Kings at Wizards

Kings – It’s still weird to write about Domantas Sabonis in the Kings section, but our man hopped on a plane, got to Sacramento, and dropped a casual 22/14/5 in 33 minutes for his Kings debut. Not only did he log 33 minutes but he had a 30.1% usage rate, wildly encouraging in his first game with De’Aaron Fox. In that game, Sabonis had 16 paint touches and scored 14 of his 22 points in the paint while Washington sits 25th in points allowed in the paint. It’s pretty nice to not have to try and figure out if it’s a Sabonis Game or Myles Turner game anymore and Sabonis is well worth an investment here. If we can’t swing two studs over $10,000, perhaps the path is one and a player like Sabonis to save a few hundred in salary. Fox himself is a strong play as well and the early returns saw them share the court for 28 minutes and Fox was at 1.21 FPPM with Sabonis at 1.52. Harrison Barnes is not a wrong option but at nearly $7,000, that might be a little too rich for my blood.

Wizards – It appears that the knee for Kristaps Porzingis got healthy quickly but I’m not terribly interested at this juncture and will likely be using the Wizards for value plays. Raul Neto is still way too cheap and the Wizards will be giving him a significant run at point guard with Bradley Beal and Spencer Dinwiddie not active for the rest of the year or simply not on the team. He played 30 minutes and Ish Smith is not likely to walk into a starting role over him, although I suppose they could surprise us. We’ll see what the model does with Thomas Bryant, Rui Hachimura, and Deni Avdija but the bottom line is a lot of Washington is still far too cheap even with the addition of KP, Smith, and Kyle Kuzma now being the highest-usage player. It also does not hurt they face the Kings, who are a top 10 team in pace and bottom 10 in defensive rating.

Lakers at Warriors

Lakers – The Lakers reportedly are reinvigorated now that they know their team moving forward (sure, the trade deadline was what’s wrong with this team) but the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis remains very appealing. James is still under $11,000 and we know that he has the dramatic gene and will be up for a game against the Warriors on ABC. This isn’t a game against the Blazers and further, the Lakers better start stacking some wins. Davis can be a bit more flighty but man the matchup is good. With Draymond Green being out for the Warriors, they really should have a tough time defending him. Credit to Kevon Looney for his play lately but he shouldn’t be able to hold a candle to Davis. Those would be the only two Lakers I would be focused on.

Warriors – I’m not too enticed to play Steph Curry but that just means the man is going to go nuclear for 40+ real points because he has not been my friend this year. Anytime I’ve put my money on him, he takes a night off but this game should be fast with the Lakers sitting fourth in pace. I would never argue the upside but Morant against the Hornets is more appealing to me. Klay Thompson is certainly the easier way to get access to the Warriors side of the ball (and as the Lakers, there are only two players here for me) and his minutes are up to 30. His shot isn’t all the way back yet as he’s just shooting 37.4% from deep but his usage rate of 29.5% is super appealing and he’s going to have a game sooner or later where everything falls. The Lakers sitting at 17th in defensive rating could be that game where Klay goes for 30+ raw points for the first time this season and he will always be a great mid-range target in GPP.

Honorable Mention

Clippers vs. Mavericks (Luka especially)

Spurs vs. Pelicans

NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/9

It’s been a little while since the NBA has had a small slate and tonight is not that different as we have six games in front of us. On the surface, this is somewhat of an easy slate because we have a lot of teams on a back-to-back and that includes teams that made trades yesterday. Let’s get into that and more in the NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/9 and carve our paths to green screens again!

Lakers at Blazers

Lakers – I wouldn’t be overly shocked to see LeBron James or Anthony Davis sit tonight, but the flip side of that coin is the Lakers sit ninth in the West before the action started Tuesday night. They were only five games ahead of the Blazers for 11th and 4.5 games ahead of the Pelicans, who think they can make a run. Even if LeBron and AD both play, I’m more inclined to play either since they are under $11,000 and Russell Westbrook is an afterthought. Both Bron and AD can hit 60 DK points in the same game at any juncture right now and Davis has really been playing some strong basketball since he’s come back from injury. Portland should still be short-handed tonight and was already in the bottom five in defensive rating while the Lakers are a top-five team in pace and AD and Bron are over 1.31 FPPM on the season. There is potential to just double-up and play both but there are other players at the high end of the pricing grid that have my interest to be sure.

Blazers – This is being written before the Blazers play Tuesday but we do know that their starting lineup was Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic, Justise Winslow, Ben McLemore, and CJ Elleby. While DK technically did raise the prices of the cheap guys, it’s not likely to be enough as the Lakers are still a bottom 10 team in defensive rating. On top of that, they may have just eight or 10 players again tonight so they will be the main source of value and I’m likely to follow the same formula of having at least 2-3 Blazers in every lineup tonight.

Wolves at Kings

This game should look familiar because they just played last night and the Kings are going to be my main focus. As things stand, the big three for Minnesota are all active in Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Anthony Edwards, and when that is the case, I typically lean toward the cheapest player and that’s D’Lo tonight. The $7,000 salary is incredibly interesting against the Kings for a player that has the highest assist rate on the team at 32.4% and has a higher FPPM than Edwards by 0.05.

The Kings side is more interesting since they should be without their new teammates tonight and that’s likely going to leave De’Aaron Fox and Davion Mitchell with a ton of usage to eat up. It hasn’t been a large sample but when Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton have been off the floor, Fox has a 29.3% usage rate and 1.22 FPPm and the man is under $8,000. Mitchell is only at 0.69 but he’s also sporting a 36.2% true shooting rate in that sample and that’s not where his talent level is. Both teams are in the top eight of pace this year and since they faced each other the night before, defense might be optional. My goal is to have at least 2-3 players from this game and the Blazers game as things stand right now.

Honorable Mention – Bulls at Hornets

Teams To Monitor

Warriors – Klay Thompson is sitting this one out so Steph Curry is absolutely a strong option at his salary and is in the running for one of the best on the slate. He’s barely over $10,000 but the shot has been iffy at best lately and the floor is absolutely there. Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole are much more intriguing than normal tonight and if Kevon Looney sits out as well, the opposing big man could be of interest.

Jazz – Rudy Gobert is still out and I’ll be interested to see if Udoka Azubuike draws a start again even with Hassan Whiteside active. Azubuike is still very cheap and put up 30 DK in 27 minutes played last game and if Looney is out along with Draymond Green still being out, the interior for the Warriors is dicey at best. Oh, and Donovan Mitchell popped off for nearly 60 DK and somehow is still just $8,600 if you’re into that sort of thing.

NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/6

The NBA has eight total games today, split into a three-game slate and a five-game slate. We’re going to hit on both in the NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/6 and carve paths to green for both slates so let’s get to work!

Early Slate (3:30 start time)

Teams To Monitor

Nets – The biggest piece of news is the status of James Harden as he was out last game with a hammy injury. I would expect the Nets to be cautious with Harden with the news that Brooklyn may ship him before the trade deadline and even though the Nets got blown off the floor, it’s hard to want to go back to Kyrie Irving. Over 132 minutes this season without Harden and Kevin Durant on the floor, Kyrie has a 32.4% usage rate and 1.34 points per minute so the salary is justified against the Nuggets backcourt. Cam Thomas is not going to shoot 11-19 for the field again but he also played 31 minutes and that is notable at the salary, as is James Johnson who started and played 20 minutes.

Bulls – Even if Coby White and Zach LaVine are out again, I wouldn’t be too keen to chase Nikola Vucevic at a five-digit price point going against Joel Embiid (one of the best plays on the slate). DeMar DeRozan would be a different story as he has a massive 44.2% usage rate if they’re missing the number of players they were on Friday. Both he and Vuc have an FPPM of at least 1.48 so I’d just take the better matchup with DeRozan. In that scenario, Ayo Dosunmu would log massive minutes as well with a 27.7% assist rate.

Wolves – It looks like D’Angelo Russell is back in action this afternoon while Patrick Beverly is questionable, but if Beverly is out then D’Lo becomes more appealing. I’m less inclined to pay the salary for Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards if D’Lo is active, especially when we have studs at similar price points and Embiid/Nikola Jokic at the top of the grid.

Main Slate (6:00 start time)

Pelicans at Rockets

Pelicans – The duo of Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas looks spectacular and I’m not even opposed to playing them together, although we do have some big studs to target as well. It’s just hard not to have at least one tonight against the Rockets who are the perfect mix of pace and horrid defensive rating. JoVal is averaging 9.2 paint touches per game, scores 9.4 points in the paint, and he’s one of four players with over 20 rebounding chances per game. Considering Houston is in the bottom five guarding the paint, it’s one of the best spots for JoVal. Ingram is always interesting under $9,000 and his 1.15 FPPM fits nicely along with the team-leading 29.8% usage rate. Lastly, Jaxson Hayes is an intriguing GPP option as he’s played at least 26 minutes in each of the past three games and two of those have resulted in over 30 DK points. They seem to be happy giving him a trial in the starting lineup, but it could end at any moment. If you’re playing the Rockets, the only real option is Christian Wood as their rotations cannot be banked on. I wouldn’t want to get too invested in Alperen Sengun because he only played so much in a blowout. I don’t think you have to force a run-back to play a Pelican or two.

Hawks at Mavericks

Hawks – This is probably the funnest game of the night as Trae Young squares off against Luka Doncic and fantasy fireworks should follow. I’m hoping it is reasonable to play both but we’ll see how the day unfolds with other value. Young has picked it up over the last four weeks with a 60% true shooting rate, 40% assist rate, 34.4% usage rate, and 1.37 FPPM. His salary is very appealing, as are some of the secondary players like De’Andre Hunter since he’ll be asked to play 35 minutes or more with 0.75 FPPM. I’m going to be tempted to play Clint Capela since he’s fallen to $5,700 on DraftKings. His minutes have been lower but Dallas has enough size with Dwight PowellMaxi Kleber, and others to force at least 24 minutes. Capela is never under $6,500 so even in limited minutes, that salary is crazy in this spot.

Mavericks – The salary for Luka has racked $12,000 but how can anyone argue that with his performance in the past four games. He’s racked up 64.5, 71, 71, and 79.25 DK points and this spot should be no different. His usage rate is 39.6% without Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. in addition to 1.68 FPPM. Atlanta is still 27th in defensive rating this season and even though they have been playing better, Luka cannot be defended when he’s in the zone like he is right now. I’m not all that interested in much else from Dallas because I want Luka to do everything but Dorian Finney-Smith is always a fine last man in the lineup since he’ll play a boatload of minutes.

Teams To Monitor

Pacers – We’ll need information on Domantas Sabonis and Goga Bitadze before making many decisions with the Pacers. If they’re both out, Terry Taylor is well in play as the lone “big man” on the roster and he’ll be needed as much as possible with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley on the other side.

Bucks – They haven’t played yet Saturday night as I’m writing this, but this is the profile of a spot for someone to sit on the back-to-back situation. If it happens to be Giannis Antetokounmpo, all bets are off for the slate, and the trio of Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, and Bobby Portis are all far more appealing.

NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/5

We only have five games tonight and only one player is above the $10,100 threshold on DraftKings, which will make construction interesting. There are quite a few players ruled out already that will help lead us into certain directions in the NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/5!

Thunder at Kings

Thunder – Josh Giddey is still on the radar even though he is over $7,500 on DK and that feels like the line to cross, even without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and facing the Kings who are in the bottom five in defensive rating and in the top five in pace. The Thunder playing a back-to-back shouldn’t matter all that much and Lu Dort will be on the floor plenty as he’ll be tasked with guarding some combo of Tyrese Haliburton, De’Aaron Fox (if active), or Harrison Barnes. He’s a hair pricey as well because we know that shot can go haywire every single game but we always want pieces against the Kings. Both players have a usage rate over 23% without SGA and an FPPM of at least 0.90 on top of it. Darius Bazley has been playing consistent minutes off the bench as well in the past three games, at least 26 minutes. That is before they played last night but at $4,300, he could be a strong value.

Kings – I don’t think we can bank on Fox playing until we’re told otherwise by the team and questionable reads as doubtful to me. If he’s out, we can consider both Haliburton and Davion Mitchell, who is finally over $5,000. He’s been playing massive minutes though and was almost at 40 last game to go along with a 21.5% usage rate and 0.83 FPPM without Fox. Haliburton has been tough to get right lately but the salary is justified because he has 50+ DK point upside. He’s also shown plenty of downside lately so we can leave him as a GPP-only play if Fox is out. I’m curious to see what the model makes of Damian Jones as he’s played 19, 27, and 24 minutes in his past three and has 25 DK or more in the past two. The OKC interior is nothing to worry about at all and even in limited minutes, Jones could smash his salary.

Note- The Knicks/Lakers game is not terribly interesting on the New York side but Anthony Davis is finding his groove and they need it. He’s rattled off three of four games since returning from injury of at least 57 DK points and I’m right back to the well and he should come close to 1.45 FPPPM here.

Bucks at Trail Blazers

Bucks – If we get the value that we’d need to feel comfortable, Giannis Antetokounmpo should wreck the Portland defense. They don’t have nearly enough size to deal with Giannis and the 1.69 fantasy points per minute is the best on the slate. When everyone is healthy for the Bucks, I tend to not play the secondary players because if I’m paying for Giannis, I want him to do it all and the game to funnel through him. The one potential value is Grayson Allen, as he’s shooting 39.2% from deep and the Blazers are in the bottom five in FG% allowed from a 3-point distance. The trio of Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, and Bobby Portis would only be in play if something changes.

Blazers – We’ll need to double-check how they ran their rotation because it’s only 10:18 p.m. right now but C.J. McCollum and Anfernee Simons have my attention. I’m not likely to play Jusuf Nurkic at the salary against Giannis on the interior. Simons and McCollum are going to be bombs away since the Bucks allow the second-highest frequency from 3-point land and they are both high volume shooters who are over 39% from deep. CJ Elleby and Ben McLemore will be interesting as well but we need more info on how the rotation will run without Norman Powell and Robert Covington.

Honorable Mention – Heat at Hornets

NBA DFS Yahoo Cash Plays 2/3

We are back in action with another six games of NBA action tonight and it would be nice if we don’t lose a player 23 seconds into the game tonight. While it didn’t hurt you in cash games, seeing Isaiah Jackson from the Pacers go out immediately after tip last night was frustrating. Let’s dig into what this slate looks like and all bout our targets in the NBA DFS Yahoo Cash Plays 2/3!

The scoring is FanDuel-style so always be sure to look at the Projection Model. Ghost spends a TON of time on this, and it’s the most valuable tool for NBA DFS we have. While it’s not a one-to-one translation because of the salaries, it’s still a great place to start. Yahoo has eight positions to fill with a $200 budget, different than any other site. The goal here in this article will outline some of the most popular plays since cash is king, and then we set the cores in the Win Daily Discord.

Guard – Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors – $18

If you read the Gems article today, I expressed my hesitance for Klay over on DraftKings because the salary is a little high to hit 6x return on that site. That’s not the same over on Yahoo where Klay is under $20, not even 10% of the salary cap. Given the game environment with the Kings (both teams rank so high in pace) and the total of 225 points, you absolutely want exposure. The best part about Thompson as opposed to playing Steph Curry is the spread is 13.5 points but Thompson is still working his way back into top shape. Even in a big-time blowout, his minutes are more secure in that scenario and it’s hard to see him not play at least 24 minutes. That is plenty and Thompson is one of the chalkiest plays on the slate, justifiably so on Yahoo.

Honorable Mention – Russell Westbrook, One of Chris Paul/Devin Booker

Forward – Scottie Barnes, Toronto Raptors – $25

It appears that the field isn’t quite sure where to go at forward tonight because there isn’t one super chalky player at this juncture. Barnes is the closest and he’s averaging 1.9 steals/blocks per game, a nice bonus in the Yahoo scoring format. The 4.5-point spread is the second-closest on the slate and Barnes is averaging 36 minutes per night with a ceiling of 40 because that’s just what coach Nick Nurse is going to do. The usage rate is certainly not spectacular at just 18.8% but the salary is fine and there is no standout at the position, so we can just take the minutes and run.

Honorable Mention – Marcus Morris, Nic Batum, DeMar DeRozan

Center – Drew Eubanks, San Antonio Spurs – $10

The most popular player on the slate is Eubanks and we talked about this in Gems as well. Eubanks is going to have to play as much as he can handle against the Heat and Bam Adebayo since both Jakob Poeltl and Jock Landale are both out and that latter name is just as important. San Antonio doesn’t have much of a choice but to play Eubanks to combat the size of Adebayo and he’s the site minimum, in addition to generating 1.02 Yahoo points per minute when Poeltl and Landale are off the floor. I will almost certainly be deploying the double-center approach tonight with Anthony Davis, who was big chalk last night and I expect it again.

Honorable Mention – AD, Karl-Anthony Towns

NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/3

The NBA is chugging along with another six games tonight and this balance schedule is much more enjoyable than alternating nights with 13 games and then three games, as they did last week. We have one game that is slated to be an absolute track meet tonight and one that we want some exposure to somewhere along the line in the NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/3!

Kings at Warriors

Kings – It’s almost impossible to start at any other point than this game as both teams are inside the top 12 in pace this season and the Kings are bottom-five in defensive rating. The blowout factor is palpable and I’ll be curious if the line is enough to consider. I would also point out that the Warriors just struggled to put the Houston Rockets away in a game that saw Steph Curry score over 40 raw points, so Golden State has hit a bit of a rut for the season. The status of De’Aaron Fox is once again important to how we approach Tyrese Haliburton as the most expensive King but Davion Mitchell remains in play regardless. He’s now $4,800 and we talked about it last night on the live show that the Kings needed his on-ball defense against James Harden and Kyrie Irving. Well, in steps Steph and Klay Thompson so even if Mitchell doesn’t start, he’s going to log heavy minutes once again. Harrison Barnes and Richaun Holmes are deeper GPP plays, but not priority targets tonight as the Warriors are still in the top 10 in defensive rating even without Draymond Green.

Warriors – He may well be the most expensive option on the slate but this is more toward the comfort level to play Steph. As much as I love him, he was pushing well over $11,000 for a while and that is a hard path for him to really hit value outside of a massive scoring game. I’m not sure anyone on the Kings is dumb enough to talk trash to Steph and stare him down like Kevin Porter Jr. did last time out, but Curry might be coming out of his shooting funk a little bit. Over the past three games, he’s 16-34 from deep and the Kings allow the seventh-highest FG% from deep. Klay would be a pass from me at $6,000 unless we know he’s going to play 30 minutes but be aware his shot has been erratic and it has to be on for him to hit value. I would be moderately interested in Kevon Looney but over $5,000 is a little dicey, even though the Kings are in the bottom half of the league in points and rebounds allowed in the paint.

Lakers at Clippers

Lakers – The LA players are far from set in stone on a back-to-back but assuming it is still LeBron James sitting out (the knee is still swollen so I think it’s more than fair to assume he sits for a bit), Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook are on the table with an emphasis on Davis. His salary went down, and even if DK is insistent on listing him as a center only his appeal is still there under $10,000. To their credit, the Clippers are 11th in points allowed in the paint but this is AD. When he’s on, the combo of Ivica Zubac, Serge Ibaka, and Isaiah Hartenstein is not going to stop Davis from doing what he wants in the paint, including scoring almost 10 points a game in the paint. Let’s see how the Lakers approach it, but the late-night hammer is appealing as usual.

Clippers – We never lie to you guys and in full transparency, the Clippers are a nightmare to project for any slate without Paul George in the lineup. It’s seemingly a different Clipper every single game and that can make it frustrating. For me, the players that stand out are Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris, and I prefer Jackson. It’s hard to ignore that Jackson is leading the team with a 30.2% usage rate and 1.01 points per minute, even with the understanding that his true shooting rate is 49.4% and the floor is certainly there. The Lakers struggle with ball-handlers so R-Jax has the edge there. Morris is sitting at 25.1% for the usage rate and 0.94 points per minute, so both are in play as a run-back option.

Teams To Monitor

Spurs – Both Jakob Poeltl and Jock Landale are out for the Spurs and that means we should have Drew Eubanks as a primary salary-saver. The matchup is not kind since he has to face Bam Adebayo but the Spurs need some see to deal with Bam and Dewayne Dedmon. Dejounte Murray facing off against Jimmy Butler has my attention but Derrick White at just $6,000 is a fine way to fill a guard spot as well if you’re in the mid-range.

Hawks – The status of Trae Young is vitally important to the slate tonight because if he’s out, that opens up a lot for Atlanta. If he plays, Young being under $10,000 is interesting even against the Suns. He was playing some of his best basketball of the year before the shoulder issue, shooting over 40% from deep. John Collins, Bogdan BogdanovicDelon Wright, and Kevin Huerter all have usage rates over 23% and Bogdanovic and Collins lead in FPPM at 1.02 and 1.07. Bogdanovic getting up to 30 minutes last game is very interesting since he’s under $5,000.

NBA DFS Yahoo Cash Plays 2/2

We have another nine games tonight and the chalk isn’t quite as concentrated as it was last night, at least as we stand. The chalk plays are quite as cheap as they were last night but we do have a front-funner as far as a popular team and it appears to be the Cleveland Cavaliers. Let’s get into that and more in the NBA DFS Yahoo Cash Plays 2/2 to carve the path to green screens again!

Guard – Caris LeVert, Indina Pacers – $30

The Pacers will be without Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner, and Domantas Sabonis again tonight and that leaves LeVert as the focal point of the offensive attack with a 24.3% usage rate, 30.3% assist rate, and 0.84 Yahoo points per minute across a 116-minute sample size this season. What is really notable there is the 46.1% true shooting rate in the said sample because it’s 51.7% on the season and LeVert has had games where he exceeds 50 Yahoo points in this scenario. Facing the Orlando Magic when they played last night and rank 23rd in defensive rating is a recipe for a big game and the salary didn’t move for LeVert, making him too cheap for the upside and a great place to start with a chalky guard.

Honorable Mention – Russell Westbrook (not likely for me), Mike Conley (pending Jordan Clarkson news)

Forward – Cedi Osman, Cleveland Cavaliers – $12

This doesn’t surprise me that much because forward has generally been terrible unless you’re plugging in an All-Star so a lot of nights on Yahoo, the field prefers to punt small forward when it makes sense. We know the Cavs will be without point guard Darius Garland tonight, as they were last game and Osman played 37 minutes and dished 12 assists. Listen, he’s not going to be the most fun name you ever click on but he’s just $12 and he’s not going to leave the court. Throw in the fact that he’s facing the Houston Rockets and now you have something. Houston is still dead last in defensive rating and first in pace, meaning a massive pace-up spot for Osman and the Cavs who are 24th. Pair Osman with Isaiah Jackson from Indiana, spend $30 total on two forward spots and build 25% of your cash game lineups with no need to look back.

Honorable Mention – Bojan Bogdanovic, Jayson Tatum

Center – Jarrett Allen, Cleveland Cavaliers – $28

Not only does the Rockets matchup boast everything we talked about for Osman, but they have been one of the worst teams defending the paint on the season. They are dead last in points allowed in the paint and 26th in rebounds allowed and Allen has been a monster in the paint for Cleveland all season long. He leads the league in paint touches per game at 12.4, he’s third in points per game in the paint at 12, and he averages over 18 rebound chances per contest. This is one of the best spots for a player like Allen to have and the fact he’s under $30 on Yahoo is a gift.

Honorable Mention – Anthony Davis, Christian Wood

NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/2

We get nine games tonight and the top end of the salary grid is positively loaded with options in excellent spots. Since this is the NBA, the landscape will certainly change before lock but we can start to outline what we like in NBA DFS: Gems with Ghost and Adam 2/2!

Trail Blazers at Lakers

Trail Blazers – The bulk of the game stacks tonight are later on in the evening and the game in the least window is super appealing since both teams are bottom 12 in defensive rating and the Lakers are top-five in pace. Both Jusuf Nurkic and Anfernee Simons are probable but the main player I’m focused on is C.J. McCollum even at $8,100. He leads in usage at 28.6% and the Lakers can’t defend ball-handlers at all this season. If the build doesn’t allow for McCollum, Simons is very interesting as well with a 26.2% usage rate and both players are scoring dependent so the discount isn’t the worst thing in the world. He’s coming off a terrible game as well so the salary is low and Simons isn’t likely to shoot 3-16 again since he’s had a 57.4% true shooting rate on the season without Damian Lillard.

Lakers – I’m not sure there are many more uncomfortable phrases in the DFS landscape than “I love Anthony Davis”, yet here we are. Portland is 24th in points allowed in the paint and 10th in rebounds allowed but Nurkic does not know how to defense, to quote the goat Ghost. Davis is seventh in paint touches with 10 per game and sixth in points scored in the paint with 9.5. On top of that, LeBron James is listed as doubtful and when he’s out, Davis has a 29.8% usage rate and leads the team with 1.39 points per minute. I can’t stomach Russell Westbrook anymore than the actual Lakers and the only value play that I would be interested in is Malik Monk if he plays. He’s shooting 41.3% from deep this year and Portland is still 0.5% away from allowing the highest 3-point FG% across the league.

Nets at Kings

Nets – This is one of the primary game stacks, but the status of both Kyrie Irving and James Harden are vital to the game and the entire slate. Kyrie has not played on a back-to-back yet this season but he’s also playing normal minutes and Kevin Durant remains out. They both have over 1.30 points per minute and at least a 30% usage rate so against the Kings, both would be worthwhile investments and it depends on the build around them. If one of these players sits, the other is one of the best spend-up options on the slate. Both teams are in the top 10 in pace and Sacramento is 29th in defensive rating. Nicholas Claxton would be of interest as well since LaMarcus Aldridge is out and Claxton has 0.97 points per minute. The Kings are in the bottom 10 in points and rebounds allowed in the paint so this is a dynamite spot.

Kings – Hopefully we get a lean on De’Aaron Fox before lock because if he remains out for his sixth straight game, Tyrese Haliburton is a strong play once again. He sporting 1.05 points per minute and a massive 39.3% assists rate in an elite game environment, and that means Davion Mitchell should start again as well. He’s played at least 30 minutes in each of the past four games and has hit over 29 DK points in three straight while he sits under $5,000 again. Harrison Barnes would be the last of the trio that I would give consideration but he is GPP-only because his production is erratic. Even in the past five games, he has two over 40 DK and one of just 12.

Thunder at Mavericks

Thunder – The Thunder will be without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander through the All-Star break so the salary looks high for Josh Giddey but he can still get there. He only played 33 minutes last game and the Thunder pulled away in the fourth so he had a few minutes shaved off his time on the court, making it easy to see where he can get to 45 DK. Lu Dort is always in play too but he wouldn’t be a cash play unless he’s overwhelming chalk because his shot comes and goes a lot. His true shooting rate is 48.9% without SGA but the usage is 26.9% so it’s really just a matter of if he can get hot from the floor.

Mavericks – Tim Hardaway Jr. had foot surgery during the week and Kristaps Porzingis remains out so Luka Doncic will be popular and I can’t mount an argument against it. His usage rate is 39.6%, the points per minute is 1.67, and the assist rate is 49.2% when KP and THJ are off the floor and the ceiling is 70+ DraftKings points like it was last game. While Jalen Brunson, Maxi Kleber, and Dorian Finney-Smith are in play and I want to see what the model does with them, my attention is focused on a different model darling from his last game – Marquese Chriss. He went from 16 minutes to 19 in the last game and he has a 124-minute sample size this season without KP and THJ. The minutes are not secure but 1.21 points per minute at potentially 20 minutes against the Thunder frontcourt is massively appealing at stone minimum.

Honorable Mention – Hornets at Celtics

Teams To Monitor

Pacers – Domantas Sabonis, Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner, and Goga Bitadze are all out tonight for Indy and Isaiah Jackson is likely going to be popular again. His price rose by $1,300 but he also played 30 minutes and went for 46 DraftKings points so the field is likely happy to go back to the well.

76ers – They will still be missing Shake Milton and Furkan Korkmaz so the easiest route to get some exposure would be Seth Curry. Even if he just plays 35 minutes without overtime, he’s only $5,300 and shoots 40.3% from deep. He shot 4-15 last game and is due for a rebound, which could push him well over 30 DraftKings points tonight.

Jazz – Rudy Gobert is out, Donovan Mitchell is out, Joe Ingles has suffered an ACL injury, and Hassan Whiteside is questionable. Not only could the Jazz bring us some value in players like Jordan Clarkson and Bojan Bogdanovic but the flip side is they may have nobody to guard Nikola Jokic

NBA DFS Yahoo Cash Plays 2/1

There is a reason I typically write this article later in the day and it paid off again today as the Golden State Warriors flipped the slate on its head. They only have nine total players available for the game tonight so the rotation is going to be extremely compressed and that means fantasy goodness to go around for everyone in the NBA DFS Yahoo Cash Plays 2/1!

Note – Jordan Poole, Gary Payton II, Jonathan Kuminga, and Kevon Looney are all inside the top eight in ownership currently for the Warriors on Yahoo. Your cash lineup likely needs at least three, if not four so this article will be focused on the fill-in options between the Warriors.

Guard – Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns – $39

The premier game of the night is the Nets facing the Suns in Phoenix, and Booker is seemingly chalk every single night in Yahoo cash games. The Suns might be getting Jae Crowder and Deandre Ayton back tonight but even if everyone is active, Booker leads the Suns in usage rate at 32.5% and his 1.18 Yahoo points per minute is very strong. The game has the highest total of the night and both teams are in the top 10 in pace so we need exposure to this game without question.

Honorable Mention – Spencer Dinwiddie, Chris Paul

Forward – DeMar DeRozan, Chicago Bulls – $39

Since we have so much money to spend, it’s pretty easy to plug in DeRozan and the 223 point total is well worth chasing. Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball are both still out for Chicago and in that scenario, DeRozan leads the team with a 33.2% usage rate and he’s sitting sixth in points per game across the league at 26.4. There is no easier way to rack up fantasy points and the Magic are 23rd in defensive rating this season. The floor for DeRozan is strong and it’s so easy to play him around Golden State.

Honorable Mention – Wendell Carter Jr., Giannis Antetokounmpo

Center – Nikola Vucevic, Chicago Bulls – $36

As of now, it appears the field is going to double up on Bulls and centers, as both Looney and Vuc are in the top eight in popularity. We talked about the matchup with the Magic defensively and they are also 24th in rebounding overall, 27th in points allowed in the paint, and 24th in rebounds allowed in the paint. His usage is behind DeRozan and Zach LaVine but the Yahoo points per minute lead the team at 1.31. Its stars and scrubs all over the board tonight and Yahoo tends to be a double-center site.

Honorable Mention – Karl-Anthony Towns, Jonas Valanciunas
