Today marks the trade deadline, so it’s going to be one of the most bizarre slates of the season. That means we’ll have a bunch of funky lineups and potential scratches, so be sure to check everything before submitting lineups. With that in mind, let’s get into our 7/31 DFS Hitting picks.

7/31 DFS Hitting Picks

7/31 DFS Hitting Catcher

James McCann, DET at LAA

DK ($3,400)   FD ($2,700)

McCann really deserves more credit for what he’s done this season, as he’s truly established himself as one of the best hitting catchers in the game. That’s made crystal clear by his .283 AVG and .800 OPS, which are easily career-high numbers. His numbers against lefties have been even better, with McCann providing a .359 OBP, .519 SLG and .877 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor. That makes these price tags really hard to figure, especially against a guy with a 5.35 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.

7/31 DFS Hitting First Base

Justin Smoak, TOR at KC

DK ($3,900)   FD ($3,300)

Smoak has been a regular in my articles over recent weeks and recent results indicate that we’ve been getting things right. The simple fact is, this dude is inevitably due for some positive regression. His .342 wOBA and .427 SLG are way off of his .389 xwOBA and .513 xSLG. Those indicators tell us that this is one of the most dangerous bats in the game and his form since the All-Star break shows just that. Over his last 13 games, Smoak has four homers, nine runs scored, nine RBI and 11 walks en route to a .396 OBP and .548 SLG. That’s huge against a guy like Jakob Junis, as that puts Smoak on his favorable left side versus a pitcher with a 5.03 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.

7/31 DFS Hitting Second Base

Max Muncy, LAD at COL

DK ($5,600)   FD ($4,400)

After a couple of value plays, let’s get some studs in there for you to build off of. Muncy is just that, as his .290 ISO, .381 OBP, .555 SLG and .936 OPS since joining L.A. last season makes him one of the best bats in the game. Those fantastic numbers are even better against right-handers and his numbers in Coors Field are more ridiculous. In 55 at-bats in Coors Field, Muncy has four doubles, nine homers and 22 RBI en route to a .927 SLG and 1.343 OPS. He faces a pitcher who’s really struggling at home this season too, with German Marquez posting a 7.07 ERA and 1.70 WHIP at Coors.

7/31 DFS Hitting Third Base

Alex Bregman, HOU at CLE

DK ($5,200)   FD ($3,800)

The power potential from this kid is simply amazing and we have to like the Astros against a pitcher like Adam Plutko. The Indians right-hander is currently pitching to a 4.83 ERA and 6.21 FIP, which is truly scary against one of the best lineups in baseball. That’s why Houston is projected for more than five runs and Bregman should play a huge part of that. The little third baseman is currently generating a .520 SLG and .913 OPS, as he’s also got a .404 OBP over his last 21 games.

7/31 DFS Hitting Shortstop

Javier Baez, CHC at STL

DK ($4,600)   FD ($4,000)

It was tough to find value plays among the shortstops but Baez is too cheap. This guy has done nothing but rake since joining the Cubs and he’s particularly enticing in this circumstance. While Miles Mikolas is a solid pitcher, his inability to strike people out really adds to Baez’ value. The 29 percent K rate for Baez is one of the only things that’s slowed him down but Mikolas’ 17 percent K rate limits Baez’s risk. If you’re guaranteeing me that this talented hitter will get the ball in play four times, I’ll take those odds at this price tag. Baez is feeling it right now too, accruing three doubles, three homers, 11 runs scored and two steals over his last nine games played.

7/31 DFS Hitting Outfielders

J.D. Martinez, BOS vs. TB

DK ($4,900)   FD ($4,100)

Don’t look now but Martinez is starting to heat up. Much like Smoak, this is a guy who’s due for some serious positive regression, as his indicators are some of the best in the game. In fact, Martinez .408 xwOBA and .588 xSLG rank him Top-20 in the game and it’s really no surprise that he’s starting to heat up. Over the last nine games, Martinez is hitting .375 while providing a .750 SLG and 1.155 OPS. There’s also a good chance that he’ll face a lefty here and that’s really frightening when you see his 1.301 OPS against southpaws this season.

Ian Desmond, COL vs. LAD

DK ($4,200)   FD ($3,400)

Desmond has quietly had a resurgent season for the Rockies and he’s really one of the only Coors Field bats that comes at a value. Since May 7, Desmond is hitting .308 while generating a .925 OPS. That’s all you can ask for from someone in such a friendly ballpark and most of that damage has actually come against left-handed pitching. In fact, Desmond has a .975 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor. Hyun-Jin Ryu is a scary pitcher but his 9.15 ERA and 2.32 WHIP in five starts at Coors shows that no one is safe from those dimensions.

Justin Upton, LAA vs. DET

DK ($3,800)   FD ($3,500)

Upton has been very disappointing this season since his return from the IL but he’s got way too much potential to be priced below $4,000 on DK. We’re talking about a guy who has a career .355 wOBA and career .209 ISO. This is a 31-year-old who still has a ton in the tank and it’s just a matter of time before he gets hot. Facing a weak lefty like Daniel Norris is a good way to start, with the Detroit southpaw pitching to a 4.89 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Those ugly numbers are going to make it tough to get Upton out, as he has a .230 ISO and .366 wOBA against left-handed pitching for his career.

Jakob Junis Over 4.5 Strikeouts

Junis is too good of a pitcher to be struggling the way he is and the K upside is huge here. This is a guy who has a 22 percent K rate and has struck out at least four batters in 14-straight starts. That’s huge against a Blue Jays lineup that ranks 20th in K rate, 22nd in runs scored, 25th in OPS and 28th in OBP.

7/29 MLB DFS Winners

Carson Kelly ($3,700)

Carson Kelly had a great game against the Miami Marlins last night. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, RBI and two runs. He was also listed as the catcher to use on the DFS Hitter Picks for this slate. Kelly is now at 13 HRs and 36 RBI on the season. Fade on him on today’s slate as he won’t provide nearly as much value.

Kelly’s Outlook

Carson Kelly has been one of the best eight-hole hitters in the league, which is extremely important with the pitcher usually being on deck. In his last 30 games, Kelly is posting a .287 batting average and a .388 OBP. The Arizona Diamondbacks travel to New York to play the Yankees for a two-game set beginning today. Expect Kelly to be slowed down by a motivated Yankees team that was embarrassed the past week.

Manny Machado ($4,600)

Manny Machado is one of the best hitters in baseball and proved it once again last night against his former team, the Baltimore Orioles. He went 3-for-4 with two runs and a triple on the day. If you checked out the DFS Hitter Picks before selecting your team, you would have had Machado’s production as well. Make sure to ride Machado’s bat in today’s afternoon action.

Machado’s Outlook

Manny Machado seems to finally being adjusting to National League pitching and San Diego in general. In his last fifteen games, he is batting .300 with a .567 slugging, with phenomenal defense at the hot corner. Machado will continue the series against his former team today and expect him to have similar results.

7/30 MLB DFS Losers

Kenta Maeda

Last night was not a good one for Kenta Maeda against the Colorado Rockies as he went four innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He now is 7-8 on the season after this loss. Fade him in his next start until he figures out what is wrong.

Maeda’s Outlook ($6,800)

Kenta Maeda has struggled as of late. In his last seven games (six starts) he is 0-4 with a 4.97 ERA in 29 innings pitched. Luckily for him and the Dodgers, they have a big enough space to let the problem essentially correct itself. Maeda’s next outing is scheduled for Saturday against the San Diego Padres. Let Maeda fix himself before using salary space on him.

Max Muncy ($5,600)

Max Muncy did not live up to the price tag on him for last night’s ballgame against the Colorado Rockies, as he went 1-for-4 with a single. Playing in Coors Field, where the ball just flies and inflates numbers, Muncy doesn’t really have an excuse. All he needed to do was get some solid wood on the ball and put it in the air. Look for Muncy to bounce back today.

Muncy’s Outlook

Muncy has been less productive than usual lately, but has very good numbers away from Dodger Stadium this year. Only nine of his 26 long balls were hit in Los Angeles. The Dodgers continue their series in Colorado against the Rockies and expect Muncy to put a drive into one during today’s game.

7/30 MLB DFS Injury Update

Charlie Blackmon missed yesterday’s game due to back tightness that was caused from a postgme workout on Sunday.

The Washington Nationals placed Max Scherzer on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 26, with a mild rhomboid strain.

There are games spread all throughout the day and that makes for a fascinating MLB DFS slate. That’s why I’ll provide plays throughout the day, to cater to all of you who want to play at different times. Luckily, there’s not a whole lot of weather in the forecast, which is huge considering we’ve already had a postponement earlier this week.

Catcher

Carson Kelly, ARI vs. BAL

DK ($4,100)   FD ($2,600)

Kelly is a hidden gem for MLB DFS and we have to love him against a pitching staff like this. Not only do the Orioles rank last in total ERA, they’re also well on their way to shattering the MLB record for most home runs allowed. While they’ll be throwing out their best pitcher, it happens to put the platoon advantage in Kelly’s favor. The slugging catcher currently has a .380 AVG, .475 OBP, .760 SLG and 1.235 OPS against left-handers so far this season. John Means is a pitcher definitely due for regression too, as his xFIP is 2.40 runs higher than his ERA.

First Base

Anthony Rizzo, CHC at SF

DK ($5,100)   FD ($4,400)

Rizzo might be the hottest hitter in MLB DFS right now and we simply can’t avoid him. Not only does Rizzo enter this matchup in the midst of 13-game hitting streak, he’s also providing a .478 AVG and 1.293 OPS in that span. It’s quietly one of the best hitting stretches of the season and it’s a wonder why he’s not getting more publicity. What we like here is that he gets the platoon advantage in his favor against Tyler Beede, who’s pitching to a 4.70 ERA and 1.43 WHIP this season. Rizzo also has a .418 OBP, .578 SLG and .989 OPS against right-handers this season, if you needed any more incentive.

Second Base

Max Muncy, LAD vs. LAA

DK ($5,100)   FD ($4,100)

Picking a second baseman always hurts my soul but Muncy is always a reliable choice at this weak position. Since joining the Dodgers last season, Muncy has an ISO just shy of .300 while posting a wOBA in the .400-range. That’s backed up by a .565 SLG and .947 OPS, as Muncy is simply one of the best power bats in the game. He’s actually in the midst of yet another power surge, homering nine times in his last 19 games. All that doesn’t even take into consideration that he gets the platoon advantage against Jaime Barria’s 7.36 ERA and 1.64 WHIP.

Third Base

Mike Moustakas, MIL vs. CIN

DK ($4,600)   FD ($4,100)

Moustakas is one of the best third basemen in MLB DFS and it’s a wonder why he’s priced so reasonably. The talented slugger is actually in the midst of his best season, setting career-highs with a .548 SLG and .886 OPS. Those numbers are obviously fantastic and it says a lot about how much he’s developed his game.  The Moose is raking right now too, hitting .313 over his last 12 games while generating a .953 OPS in that span. The icing on the cake is this matchup is against Lucas Sims, who’s just coming up from the minors and has a 5.75 career ERA and 5.18 career xFIP.

Shortstop

Trea Turner, WSH vs. COL

DK ($4,600)   FD ($3,900)

While the Nationals are going to play a doubleheader here, we’re going to focus on the supreme matchup against Kyle Freeland. This guy has been absolute trash for my Rockies this season, pitching to a 7.62 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. That obviously puts many of the Nationals bats in play, especially a guy like Turner. The speedy shortstop currently has a .365 OBP and .795 OPS against left-handers dating back to the start of last season and that’s all you can ask for from a guy who’s likely to steal a bag if he gets on base. Getting to hit atop this lineup is what intrigues me most though, with Washington projected for more than five runs in this game. Not to mention, Turner hit for the cycle against this terrible pitching staff on Tuesday.

Outfield

Bryce Harper, PHI at DET

DK ($4,500)   FD ($4,100)

Harper got off to a slow start with his new club but we love this matchup and recent form. Over his last 20 games. Harper gas collected four homers, 16 RBI and 12 walks en route to a .404 OBP and .951 OPS. That’s the stud we’ve been waiting for and not making the All-Star team clearly lit a fire under him. What makes him enticing here is this matchup against Jordan Zimmermann, who’s 7.51 ERA and 1.69 WHIP makes him one of the worst pitchers in the league. That also puts the platoon advantage in Harper’s favor, which is scary since he has a career .250 ISO, .394 wOBA and .400 OBP against right-handed pitching.

Garrett Cooper, MIA at CWS

DK ($4,700)   FD ($2,900)

Cooper has been a sneaky beast and people need to take notice of his stellar play. A .309 average speaks loudly in its own right, but he’s also got an .884 OPS to match it. The simple fact is, these MLB DFS sites are overlooking that this guy is on the Marlins. This is the most underutilized team in DFS and all of their prices will remain low no matter what. Getting to face Reynaldo Lopez is why I love him today, with the White Sox righty pitching to a 5.76 ERA and 1.50 WHIP this season.

Yasiel Puig, CIN at MIL

DK ($4,600)   FD ($3,300)

Puig has been a different player the last two months and FanDuel simply hasn’t priced him up enough. Over his last 32 games, Puig is hitting .356 en route to a 1.156 OPS. That means this price should be much higher on both sites and it’s a wonder why he remains in this price range. Facing Jhoulys Chacin is obviously a huge plus too, with the Milwaukee righty pitching to a 5.67 ERA and 1.53 WHIP this season.

Monkey Knife Fight Pick of the Day

Play MLB Player Prop Games and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Noah Syndergaard Over 5.5 Strikeouts and Dinelson Lamet over 4.5 Strikeouts

Play these props together or separately but they really surprised me. Syndergaard is especially friendly, as I expect him to clear this prop by the fifth inning. We’re talking about a guy with a 28 percent K rate facing a righty-heavy lineup that ranks 28th in K rate. Lamet is quite the strikeout king himself, posting a 29 percent career K rate while pitching against the 18th-ranked offense.

Wes Passinault can thank Ian Desmond and revel in the worst performance of the season by Hyun Jin-Ryu, He is headed to the biggest Fantasy Sports event he could ever hope to be a part of, the FanDuel WFBC.

The 36 year-old accountant from Amherst, Wisconsin won a seat in the 2019 $2,000,000 FanDuel World Fantasy Baseball Championship in San Diego on August 24 by taking down a qualifier on June 28. He also did it with some input from his friend and Win Daily analyst Mark Paquette.

The Path Goes Through Colorado

“I was teetering on using Desmond,” he said. “But Mark told me for a Colorado bat at $3200, I had to take him. That is what took it over the edge for me.”

The Rockies and Dodgers combined for 22 runs that night. Desmond scored 18.9 points on FanDuel, going 2 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Passinault used seven hitters from the Los Angeles/Colorado game. Nolan Arenado had a four-hit night, with two doubles and a HR, and led the way to the FanDuel WFBC with 40.4 points. Max Muncy had a homer and four RBI and came in with 38.7.

“I felt confident like I always did, and I had more confidence on that night targeting Coors Field bats,” he said. “I knew I was going to get on some Rockies bats that night.”

A savvy Fantasy DFS player, Passinault has been competing since 2000 in seasonal and 2013 in Daily games. He was set on attacking Ryu, the premier pitcher in the National League, when most others would not. He was not afraid to gun for the rare Ryu down outing in Colorado.

It’s not often when Colorado bats go so underowned at home. I looked up the projected ownership numbers for Arenado and stuck with him and never changed,” Passinault said.

Ryu allowed seven earned runs and helped Passinault to his biggest Fantasy night ever and a seat in the FanDuel WFBC. The previous season, he had won $2,500 in a multi-entry tournament on FanDuel. Now he had woken up to approximately $8,000. He took first place in four of the five tournaments he entered that night.

The Delayed Winning Reaction

But Passinault did not find out about his winnings and seat in the live finals in San Diego until the next day. He said he knew he was going to be close to some success. But he simply turned his phone off for the night before the games ended. He didn’t realize his good fortune until the next day when he was readying for a cornhole tournament.

“My phone just started exploding,” he said. “Then I saw that I had won the qualifier and realized what happened.”

Passinault estimated he had tried to qualify for a seat in the FanDuel WFBC 55 times before he finally got in. Now he is going to play for a first place prize of $500,000 and is guaranteed a minimum of $5,000. He is having all his expenses paid for the trip and will experience welcome and viewing parties. He will also be entered into a $50,000 single game championship tournament at a Red Sox/Padres game at Petco Park, among other VIP experiences. This will be his first ever trip to San Diego.

“What I am really looking forward to the most is being with all those great DFS players in one room, and experiencing the culture as all of them get together,” Passinault said. “I think I just might be an Average Joe compared to some of these guys.”

Not Feeling the Pressure

But Passinault said he is not putting an extra pressure on himself as the FanDuel WFBC event approaches.

“I am just going to get back to playing DFS and focus on the day at hand,” he said.

In the meantime, Passinault is also grateful to his friend Paquette. Passinault had previously followed Mark on Twitter and reached out to him during the previous NBA season to start chatting DFS. It was the Win Daily writer who ultimately urged him to roster Desmond.

Ultimately, though, Passinault said his love for numbers and going with his gut has gotten him this far. Now he’ll be enjoying the VIP DFS experience of a lifetime at the FanDuel WFBC.

“As an accountant I have a natural love for the numbers, but about 40 percent of it is just gut feel,” he said. “Sometimes my gut will just tell me to go the other way.”

That mix of number crunching and going with hunches has Wes Passinault on his way to the Fantasy experience of his life. He is mentally readying for next month at the FanDuel WFBC in San Diego.

‘My wife and I are really looking forward to it,” he said. ‘But I keep reminding myself to not get too far ahead, we’re not ahead to it yet.”

This report will provide recommended DFS stacks for today’s nine-game main slate. I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

**All plays are listed in order of preference. Please check back between 5-6 PM EST as some players can receive rest days or get limited at bats especially as we get closer to the postseason.

Los Angeles Dodgers Stack

vs. RHP Nick Pivetta (PHI): 5.80 Runs

**Another game with rain out potential. At the moment it looks like the storms should hold off until after the game but i advise you to monitor the weather here as it looks shakey up and down the east coast tonight.

Nick Pivetta is on the mound this evening for the Phillies. He carries an average 5.81 ERA, 5.75 FIP, and 4.89 SIERA on the year. Pivetta has fairly identical splits, with batters slashing to a .360 wOBA, .530 SLG, and .340 OBP across 66.2 innings. He has given up 27 earned runs across 33 innings to right handed batters. He has also allowed 16 earned runs in 33 innings to left handed batters. The core of this Los Angeles Dodgers team is their left handed power and they have been tearing up right handed pitching. They are slashing to a .355 wOBA, .223 ISO, and 121 WRC+ over the last month to righties.

Preferred Stack: Cody Bellinger $4800 FD|$5800 DK, Max Muncy $3900 FD|$5100 DK, David Freese ($2800 FD|$4400 DK, A.J. Pollock $3300 FD|$3800 DK, and Joc Pederson $2800 FD|$4600 DK).

Boston Red Sox Stack

***Weather is a legitimate concern here, possible PPD. Pitching and bats risky. If you want to play a Boston stack, I would reserve it for GPP’s and monitor the weather.

vs. RHP Aaron Sanchez (TOR): 6.90 Runs

The Red Sox get a lofty 6.90 implied run total in this matchup against Aaron Sanchez (surprising, I know) and this is one we cannot ignore. I know we have some weather concerns here, so tune in with our weather man Mark for updates as we get closer to lock. Aaron Sanchez carries an average 6.22 ERA, 5.50 FIP, and 5.62 SIERA. Sanchez is allowing batters to slash to a .362 wOBA, .456 SLG, and .388 OBP across 97 innings. He has allowed 67 earned runs in that span. Aaron Sanchez is a ground ball pitcher, averaging a 48% ground ball rate. Although he doesn’t give up many home runs, he has a .330 BABIP and LOB of 66%. The Red Sox are slashing to a .374 wOBA, .252 ISO, and 131 WRC+ over the last two weeks to right handed pitching. These are the best hitting numbers on the slate by a long shot.

Preferred Stack: Rafael Devers ($4200 FD|$5700 DK), Xander Bogaerts ($4400 FD|$5600 DK), Andrew Benintendi ($3400 FD|$4500 DK), and Mookie Betts ($4300 FD|$5400 DK).

Arizona Diamondbacks

vs. RHP Jesse Chavez (TEX): 5.45 Runs

We have Jesse Chavez taking on the Diamondbacks in Coors South this evening. Chavez carries a 3.84 ERA, 4.51 FIP, and 4.24 SIERA into tonight’s matchup. He is a reverse splits pitcher, allowing righties to slash .353 wOBA, .519 SLG, and .329 OBP. He has fallen off recently after having a somewhat successful start to the year. I expect him to stay in this rough patch and we will see his ERA line up with close to his FIP as the season comes to a close. Arizona batters are slashing to a .300 wOBA, .161 ISO, and 82 WRC+ in recent weeks. These are by no means the averages I look for when picking my stacks, but I feel with the ballpark upgrade to the bats and Chavez’s recent struggles we could end up with a nice lower owned Diamondbacks stack.

Preferred Plays: Ketel Marte ($3700 FD|$5200 DK), Eduardo Escobar ($3700 FD|$5200 DK), Christian Walker ($3000 FD|$4700 DK), Adam Jones ($2900 FD|$4200 DK), and Jarrod Dyson ($2700 FD|$4800 DK).

Honorable Mention

Cleveland Indians

vs. RHP Spencer Turnbull (DET): 5.78 Runs

Preferred Plays: Francisco Lindor ($4000 FD|$5000 DK), Carlos Santana ($4200 FD|$5300 DK), Jason Kipnis ($2900 FD|$3600 DK), Jose Ramirez ($3600 FD|$4400 DK). Jakob Bauers for value ($2900 FD|$3600 DK). Mike Freeman ($2100 FD|$3700 DK and Tyler Naquin ($2800 FD|$4000 DK) are also good value plays.

Washington Nationals

vs. RHP Aaron Brooks (40-50 pitches) & RHP Gabriel Ynoa (BAL)

**Another trouble spot with weather otherwise I’d have them as the top stack. I think the game starts on time, but a good chance we do not get a full 9 innings.

Preferred Plays: Juan Soto ($4000 FD|$5500 DK), Howie Kendrick ($2600 FD|$4900 DK), Anthony Rendon ($4300 FD|$5500 DK), Victor Robles ($3400 FD|$4400), and Brian Dozier ($2600 FD|$3900 DK).

Pitching

  1. Chris Paddack (R) (SDP): 3.15 Runs
  2. Mike Clevinger (R) (CLE): 3.27 Runs
  3. Danny Duffy (L) (KCR): 5.01 Runs

This report will provide recommended DFS stacks for today’s 10-game main slate. I will also include my favorite pitching picks.

**All plays are listed in order of preference. Please check back between 5-6 PM EST as some players can receive rest days or get limited at bats especially as we get closer we get to the postseason.

Cleveland Indians Stack

vs. LHP Daniel Norris (DET): 6.30 Runs

Daniel Norris takes the mound in Cleveland this evening. He carries a 4.96 ERA, 4.62 FIP, and 4.71 ERA into tonight’s matchup. We get a nice little recipe here with his reverse splits. Left handed batters are slashing to a .367 wOBA, .540 SLG, and .343 OBP across 16 innings pitched. He has allowed 13 runs in that short span. His 40% hard contact rate and 40% pull rate combined with his shakiness to lefties can make for some easy liners to right field. Norris racked up eight strikeouts but gave up six earned runs in his last meeting with Cleveland. Cleveland batters are hitting below their season averages this month, slashing to a .309 wOBA, .154 ISO, and 88 WRC+. These numbers aren’t typically what we look for but they’re in the worst part of their slump and this is a good opportunity to bust out of it.

Preferred Stack: Roberto Perez ($2700 FD|$4100 DK), Jordan Luplow ($2500 FD|$3900 DK), Carlos Santana ($3800 FD|$5000 DK), and Francisco Lindor ($4000 FD|$4900 DK).

Colorado Rockies Stack

vs. RHP Derek Rodriguez (SFG):

Dereck Rodriguez was called up from AAA as the 26th man ahead of today’s doubleheader. He carries a 5.27 ERA, 5.57 FIP, and 5.46 SIERA across 57 innings pitched into tonight’s game. He has struggled both to righties and lefties, allowing a .338 wOBA, .462 SLG, and 46% hard contact rate. The Rockies batting averages are creeping up again on this home stand and should continue to rise this evening. They are slashing to a .349 wOBA, .193 ISO, and .457 SLG against right handed pitching recently and the studs in this lineup are coming off a rest day.

Preferred Stack:Charlie Blackmon ($4800 FD|$5700 DK), Daniel Murphy ($4100 FD|$5200 DK), David Dahl ($4200 FD|$5500 DK), Trevor Story ($4600 FD|$5600 DK), and Nolan Arenado ($4700 FD|$5400 DK).

Every stack report in the industry is going to have the Giants and Rockies. Ownership almost always levitates to Coors, especially when you have Dereck Rodriguez (SFG) and Chi Chi Gonzalez (COL) pitching. Going to be a lot of ownership on both sides here ,so I am not writing up the Giants in detail for that purpose, but I’ve included my preferred stack if you decide to go with the masses tonight.

Preferred Stack: Alex Dickerson ($3800 FD|$4800 DK), Stephen Vogt ($2700 FD|$4300 DK), Evan Longoria ($3500 FD|$5300 DK), Pablo Sandoval ($2900 FD|$4900 DK), Brandon Crawford ($3000 FD|$3900 DK), and Austin Slater ($3600 FD|$5000 DK).

Los Angeles Dodgers Stack

vs. RHP Zach Eflin (PHI): 5.40 Runs

I imagine ownership here will be higher as well. It’s not very often we get the Dodgers so early in the evening. Zach Eflin carries a 3.78 ERA, 4.66 FIP, and 4.70 SIERA into tonight’s matchup. Left handed batters are slashing to a .357 wOBA, .544 SLG, and .333 OBP. He has allowed 22 earned runs and 11 home runs across 43 innings pitched to lefties as well. The only concern I really have with Dodgers batters here is a possible hangover from last night’s game. The Dodgers are slashing .to a 335 wOBA, .209 ISO, and 109 WRC+ vs. right handed pitching over the last month.

Preferred Stack:Max Muncy ($3800 FD|$4600 DK), Alex Verdugo ($3100 FD|$4100 DK), Cody Bellinger ($4800 FD|$5100 DK), and Joc Pederson ($2600 FD|$4200 DK).

Boston Red Sox Stack

vs. RHP Trent Thornton (TOR): 6.25 Runs

The Red Sox get another cupcake matchup against Thornton. They have faced him twice this season, his first outing in Boston when he allowed only two earned runs and a recent second outing in Toronto in which he allowed seven earned runs. This Red Sox team is hitting very well recently. They are slashing .372 wOBA, .254 ISO, and 129 WRC+. I have the same concern with the Red Sox as with the Dodgers. They played late last night but they do get the benefit at being at home. Trent Thornton has a 4.85 ERA, 4.41 FIP, and 4.75 ERA on the year. He has identical splits, allowing batters to slash to a .332 wOBA, .321 BABIP, and .444 SLG.

Preferred Stack: Rafael Devers ($4100 FD|$5500 DK), Xander Bogaerts ($4400 FD|$5300 DK), Mookie Betts ($4200 FD|$4800 DK), and Christian Vazquez ($2900 FD|$4700 DK).

Honorable Mention

Houston Astros vs. RHP Griffin Canning (LAA): 4.90 Runs

Preferred Stack: Alex Bregman ($4200 FD|$4400 DK), Yordan Alvarez ($4300 FD|$4800 DK), Michael Brantley ($3900 FD|$4000 DK), and Yuli Gurriel ($3800 FD|$4200 DK).

Toronto Blue Jays vs. RHP Rick Porcello (BOS): 4.25 Runs

Preferred Stack: Freddy Galvis ($3200 FD|$4300 DK), Cavan Biggio ($3700 FD|$4500 DK), Eric Sogard ($3300 FD|$4700 DK), and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ($3800 FD|$5300 DK).

Pitching

  1. RHP Adam Plutko vs. DET: 4.20 Runs
  2. RHP Lucas Giolito vs. KCR: 4.40 Runs
  3. LHP James Paxton vs. TAM: 4.00 Runs

With both Coors and Miller hosting games that could turn into high-scoring affairs, there might be a lot of cracking cold brews as we watch the numbers turn on the scoreboard and in our DFS lineups.

1.) Los Angeles Dodgers

Antonio Senzatela is no more than a below average pitcher. At Coors this season he holds a 6.21 ERA and has given up five long balls. What doesn’t help his case is that he struggles against lefties. So far this season he has given up a .336 BAA and a .531 SLG. With the likes of Joc Pederson, Max Muncy, Cody Bellinger and Alex Verdugo, good luck. The Dodgers are going to have a field day and carry your DFS lineups.

2.) Minnesota Twins

Carson Fulmer has had a horrible start to his young career. So far while at home in his career he holds a 7.81 ERA with a .390 wOBA. He is able to limit his hard contact, but he gives up massive fly ball rates. With the power hitters of Eddie Rosario, Nelson Cruz, CJ Cron and Jorge Polanco, there is no reason why they won’t chase Fulmer back to the minor leagues on your way to winning big in DFS.

3.) San Diego Padres

What a downfall for Michael Wacha. Someone with such promising talent that just lost it all this year. On the road so far this season he holds a 5.21 ERA. So far this season he has been very reverse splits and cannot get a righty out for the life of him. Against righties he has a .338 BAA and a .619 SLG. Hunter Renfroe, Manny Machado and the young phenom in Tatis Jr. should be the staples of your DFS stack here.

4.) Milwaukee Brewers

How bad are the Pirates regretting this Chris Archer Trade? Holllllllllly. Archer has been dreadful this year, but he has been even worse away from Pittsburgh (8.42 ERA). It seems like Archer has been better against lefties, but the underlying numbers show that he gets hit harder, more fly balls and strikes them out less. This makes me love Yelich, Mouse, Grandal and I also don’t mind throwing in Braun for DFS purposes. This is a very sneaky stack for me as I assume everyone will jump all over Coors.

It’s a strange Thursday DFS slate with 10 games, but at least there is a Coors game between the Dodgers and the Rockies! Two of the most well-known teams in MLB in the Yankees and the Red Sox are traveling (or have already arrived at this point) to London, England in preparation for a historic, two-game series in one of the most prestigious cities in the world. Temperatures are going to be hot in Coors so the ball will carry even better than normal.

First Basemen

Joc Pederson, FanDuel Only ($4,100): For whatever reason, FanDuel has Joc Pederson as a First Baseman at Coors Field as the Dodgers visit the Rockies. Well isn’t that convenient ladies and gentlemen! He will be batting leadoff for the Dodgers, and with warm temperatures at Coors, expect the ball to carry well. Obviously, he is in his correct position on DraftKings so on that site let’s go with his Dodgers teammate Max Muncy ($5,600 DK). Both players are notorious righty mashers with 20 and 11 HRs, respectively, on the season. By the way, Muncy is listed as a second basemen on FanDuel. Peter Lambert has been blasted in his first two career starts at Coors so we can expect the same in this start.

Second Basemen

Luis Arraez, Rays at Twins ($2,600 FD, $3,500 DK): In only 17 games, Arraez is hitting .436 on 17 hits in 39 ABs with three doubles, eight walks, eight runs scored, four RBIs and a home run. To be able to afford some big bats from the Dodgers and Rockies game in Coors, you are going to need some bargains. Facing a likely bullpen game, this left-handed batter from Venezuela will likely start the game as long as a right-handed opens for the Rays.

Shortstop

Garrett Hampson, Dodgers at Rockies ($2,700 FD, $3,300 DK but listed as a 2B/OF): This top-prospect was recently recalled from the minors and seems ready this time. On Wednesday, Hampson went two for four with two runs, a double and a stolen base. With Brandon Rodgers joining Trevor Story on the IL, shortstop is Hampson’s position for the foreseeable future. The only issue the Rockies face tonight is ace right-handed Walker Buehler of the Dodgers.

Third Basemen

Justin Turner, Dodgers at Rockies ($3,900 FD,$4,900 DK): Dodgers third baseman Turner is a reverse-splits guy, meaning he hits righties better than lefties even though he himself is a right-handed batter. Turner’s batting average and OPS against righties is considerably better than against lefties. Probably batting third in the order behind Pederson and Muncy, this Dodger stud will get plenty of opportunities to produce.

Outfielders

Dominic Smith, Mets at Phillies ($2,400 FD, $4,100 DK): Just pencil him in into your all-day FD lineup. Dominic is also first base eligible on DK to give you extra flexibility. There are fewer hotter bats in the league and the savings he gives you allows you to get those Coors bats you want. Smith has hit home runs in three consecutive games and reached base four times in last night’s game. With temperatures expected to be near 90 degrees for this afternoon game, expect the ball to be flying out of Citizens Bank Park.

Kyle Schwarber, Braves at Cubs ($3,200 FD, $3,600 DK): For as much power as Schwarber possesses, his price is extremely affordable. Throw in the fact that he will be playing in an afternoon game with temperatures in the 80s and against an unproven Braves starter in Bryse Wilson. His WHIP is over two in a tiny sample size, Schwarber could be in for a good game.

My DFS write-ups and Monkey Knife Fight picks have been doing some serious damage recently and we’re going to look to build off that momentum here. After going 2-0 on my MKF picks on Monday, I am now 13-6 over my last 19 picks. Check out Scott Engel for MKF Picks today.

Catcher

J.T. Realmuto, PHI vs. NYM

DK ($4,000)   FD ($2,900)

The simple fact is, this is one of the three best hitting catchers in the game and he’s being priced outside the Top 10 at his position in DFS. This is a guy who’s finished either first or second at the catcher position for three straight years in traditional DFS scoring and it’s just a matter of time before he returns to that form. Facing Jason Vargas is a good way to start his inevitable run, with the Mets lefty pitching to a 5.30 xFIP this season. Realmuto is having a huge year with the platoon advantage in his favor too, posting an .864 OPS against left-handers.

First Base

Matt Olson, OAK at STL

DK ($4,100)   FD ($3,200)

I always like to use Olson in DFS when he faces a weak righty and that alone makes this price hard to understand. We’re talking about a guy with a career .867 OPS and .528 SLG against right-handed pitching, as his .252 career ISO is quite the mark too. That’s absurd power potential from a player priced so cheaply and we love him against Adam Wainwright. Not only does Wainwright have a 4.72 ERA and 1.43 WHIP dating back to 2016, he’s also allowing left-handed hitters to post a .325 AVG, .582 SLG and .404 xwOBA against him this season.

Second Base

Max Muncy, LAD at ARI

DK ($5,000)   FD ($3,800)

Muncy has been one of the best hitters in the Majors since last season and he’s always in play against a weak righty. Since joining the Dodgers, Muncy is posting a .393 OBP and .957 OPS against right-handed pitching. A career ISO approaching .300 shows just how potent of a bat this dude has too. Facing Taylor Clarke is simply the DFS icing on the cake, with the Arizona righty pitching to a 6.48 ERA and 1.56 WHIP this season. If you’re playing on DraftKings, you can’t overlook Jose Altuve at $4,100 either.

Third Base

Renato Nunez, BAL vs. SD

DK ($3,900)   FD ($2,600)

Nunez has had a stellar year for the Orioles and it’s hard to understand why these DFS sites continue to disrespect him with these price tags. The slugging third baseman has absolutely obliterated left-handed pitching this season, to the tune of a .560 SLG and .884 OPS. That’s all you can ask for from someone priced so cheaply in DFS and he usually finds himself in the cleanup spot against a lefty. Matt Strahm’s 4.85 ERA and 1.27 WHIP make him a guy we don’t need to avoid either.

Shortstop

Jean Segura, PHI vs. NYM

DK ($4,100)   FD ($3,600)

Segura was in my DFS article on Monday and he treated us with one of his best games of the season. That extended a rather impressive streak from Segura, entering this game in the midst of a six-game hitting streak. In that six-game span, Segura is hitting .346 while providing a 1.000 OPS. That hot stretch makes him particularly intriguing against the aforementioned Jason Vargas, with Segura posting a 1.050 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor this season.

Outfield

Shohei Ohtani, LAA vs. CIN

DK ($4,500)   FD ($3,500)

It’s strange to see Ohtani outfield eligible on both sites but it’s quite the treat for us DFS players. The Japanese import has simply been one of the best players in baseball since joining the Majors last season. That’s evident by the fact that he currently ranks Top 20 in OPS and xwOBA in that span. What makes him really enticing today is that he gets the platoon advantage in his favor. In his career, Ohtani has a .604 SLG and .969 OPS against right-handed pitching. Tanner Roark is a guy we definitely want to exploit too, pitching to a 4.32 FIP and 1.32 WHIP so far this season.  If you’re playing on DraftKings, go ahead and stack a $4,000 Justin Upton with Ohtani.

Joc Pederson, LAD at ARI

DK ($4,700)   FD ($3,100)

When the Dodgers face a righty, Pederson automatically becomes one of the best DFS plays on the board. Not only does Pederson always lead off against right-handed pitching, he also does some serious damage out of that spot. That’s evident by his .598 SLG and .943 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor. All 20 of his homers have actually come against righties and it’s hard to fade him against a guy like Clarke.

Franmil Reyes, SD at BAL

DK ($3,900)   FD ($2,800)

This is yet another disrespectful DFS price tag, as Reyes is simply one of the best power hitters in the league. Not only does he rank Top 10 in exit velocity, his .371 xwOBA and .288 ISO speaks loudly too. That’s why he has 36 homers in just 494 career at-bats, which too is one of the best rates in baseball. While I expect Dylan Bundy to rack up the Ks in this game, his propensity to allow homers makes him a great target for someone like Reyes. Since 2017, Bundy has allowed 84 dingers, which happens to be the most in the Majors in that span.

Boston Red Sox

Whenever the White Sox run Reynaldo Lopez to the bump, there should be interest in stacking against him. The right-hander is basically everything we look for when searching for a pitcher to target against. Lopez is a flyball pitcher with a 48.3% rate. And the flyballs have led to home runs, as Lopez is allowing 2.18 HR/9 this season. On top of the flyballs and home runs, the biggest reason to target Lopez is that he is predictable. The White Sox starter is throwing a four-seam fastball on 57% of his pitches. On that type of pitch, Lopez is allowing a .395 xwOBA and has a 6.58 xFIP.

So of course, we want to get some Red Sox in our DFS lineups for Wednesday. The Boston stack needs to start with Mookie Betts (FanDuel: $4,200 DraftKings: $5,300). The outfielder has the best matchup of any of the Red Sox’s batters. Betts has a .242 ISO versus right-handed pitching while Lopez is allowing a .357 wOBA to right batters. Betts also has a .255 ISO against the four-seam fastball. Some other Boston bats worth considering for your DFS entries are: Rafael Devers (FanDuel: $3,700 DraftKings: $5,300) and Xander Bogaerts (FanDuel: $4,000 DraftKings: $5,100). Both bats have ISOs above .200 versus righties in 2019. And no Boston stack is complete without giving J.D. Martinez (FanDuel: $4,100 DraftKings: $5,000) a look. The outfielder has a .320 ISO versus four-seam fastballs.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Any time the Dodgers’ offense is opposed by a righty, they have to be considered for stacking purposes. Against right-handed pitching this season, Los Angeles has been very successful. They have a .210 ISO and a .345 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

The Diamondbacks’ Taylor Clarke has a 4.90 SIERA and a 5.47 xFIP. On the season he is allowing a 48.3% flyball rate. You can benefit from both sides of the plate against Clarke, but you will prefer to use lefties. The Arizona starter is allowing a .416 wOBA and 2.6 HR/9 to lefty bats.

So, your L.A. building blocks for your DFS lineups should include the likes of: Joc Pederson (FanDuel: $3,100 DraftKings: $4,700), Cody Bellinger (FanDuel: $4,500 DraftKings: $5,800) and Max Muncy (FanDuel: $3,800 DraftKings: $5,000). All three of these Dodgers’ left-handed batters have accumulated at least a .240 ISO versus right-handed pitching and should hit a few balls hard against the Arizona starter in this one.
