This article focuses on NHL DFS Picks for 2/8 on DraftKings and FanDuel. Both sites have fairly different scoring formats, particularly with the recent changes on DraftKings. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. BE SURE to double-check both regular and power play lines at both morning skate and before lock as they can drastically change from the time of publication.

Top Two Lines

Washington One – Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson, Nicklas Backstrom

The Flyers have really struggled on the road this season and the schedule makers did not do them any favors here. No one is hotter than Alex Ovechkin as of late, as he has been breaking slates on the regular. The Capitals have a 3.66 implied goal total and come in -170 favorites, which to be honest seems a little low here. The second line remains cheap on DraftKings and they are always tempting, but this is Ovi’s team and if I were pairing him, it would be with Tom Wilson who has been able to hit value more often than not. In cash games, I wouldn’t dream of fading Ovechkin right now.

Tampa Bay One – Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point

It pains me to have to list them being an Islanders fan. However, the Isles stellar defense of the last year and a half has sort of tailed off as of late. Meanwhile, this line has continued to roll since being paired together, accounting for the lion’s share of the Lightning’s goals. Over their last ten games, the Tampa Bay top line has eleven full line goals and should be able to add to that total here. It seems they tend to share a lot of slates with the Capitals and usually play the role of the tournament pivot due to their lower ownership and the extreme salary hit that comes with rostering the entire line.

Top Line Expensive Line

New York Rangers One – Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, Pavel Buchnevich

The Rangers recently shook their lines up and as a result, they have left Artemi Panarin with little assistance on the second line. As a result, he has gone cold over his last few games. Meanwhile, with the return of Chris Kreider from an injury scare, this line has become the driving force behind the Rangers offense. They will play host to a struggling Buffalo Sabres team traveling to Madison Square Garden on the second night of a back to back. Last night, the Sabres lost to the pitiful Red Wings as their fans booed them off into the locker room. Carter Hutton has been nothing short of atrocious in net since taking over and the Rangers should be able to absolutely smash him. I think that Toronto’s top line will be more popular but they are also even more cost-prohibitive.

Top Value Line

Columbus One – Oliver Bjorkstrand, Pierre Luc-Dubois, Gustav Nyquist

The Red Wings beat up the sucky Sabres last night, I guess every dog has his day. However, now Detroit travels to Columbus and karma should even out here. The Blue Jackets are a -225 home favorite, just short of Toronto’s -230 for the title of the largest favorite on this four-game slate. However, unlike Toronto where there are two lines doing most of the damage right now, with Columbus we can focus on the top line. Oliver Bjorkstrand, in particular, has been a man possessed as of late and should be extremely popular on both sites. They are still far too affordable for their consistency and upside, and now they get the perfect matchup with the Red Wings on a back to back.

  4. Chris Kreider – New York Rangers – $6,100
  5. John Tavares – Toronto Maple Leafs – $7,300

  1. Rasmus Sandin – Toronto Maple Leafs – $3,200
  2. Tyson Barrie – Toronto Maple Leafs – $6,300
  3. Zach Werenski – Columbus Blue Jackets – $5,900
  4. Esa Lindell – Dallas Stars – $3,900
  5. Justin Holl – Toronto Maple Leafs – $2,600

Oliver Bjorkstrand, Mika Zibanejad, Auston Matthews – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet looks like it will be down to 27/39 unless Leon Draisaitl somehow saves it after only one point from Nathan MacKinnon and a Jack Eichel bust. Tonight the goal is to get a piece of a few different games and I think that this lineup above accomplishes that.

Top Line “DraftKings”

Edmonton Two – Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Kailer Yamamoto

I do not have an expensive line and a value line tonight, as both lines I am writing up tonight are probably more mid-range. Therefore, I decided to instead separate the two lines by the site. Edmonton disappointed the other night but prior to that, this line was crushing at discounted ownership and price. Edmonton comes in a -190 home favorite against the San Jose Sharks with a 3.76 implied goal total, so not too shabby. They are much cheaper on DraftKings so it makes sense to ride them there, where they can leave salary for another team’s expensive line or other costly pairings. As it normally goes with late games on large slates, they should be virtually forgotten. Particularly after the disappointment of the other night, as they helped enable the Arizona Coyotes to get back on track.

Top Line “FanDuel”

Buffalo One – Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Jimmy Vesey

There is no doubt that the Buffalo Sabres are on the downswing and have not been very impressive as of late. However, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while and it just so happens that they will play host to one of the few teams they are still able to pick on. Yes, it is none other than ur favorite target, the abysmal Detroit Red Wings visiting upstate New York. As a result, the struggling Sabres are a -210 favorite with a sizeable 3.56 implied goal total. If you want you could throw out Jimmy Vesey and just run the two-man of Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart. This strategy would essentially give you the Buffalo two-man core and allow you to expand with another pairing of your choice from there without too much salary restriction. That being said, using Vesey would allow you to plug in a real high-end line alongside Buffalo One. That choice is yours and yours alone.

2/6 NHL DraftKings Rankings

  1. Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche – $8,500
  2. Jack Eichel – Buffalo Sabres – $8,400

  4. Connor McDavid – Edmonton Oilers – $8,300
  5. Steven Stamkos – Tampa Bay Lightning – $8,200

Defensemen

  1. Ryan Graves – Colorado Avalanche – $4,700
  2. Oscar Klefbom – Edmonton Oilers – $5,900
  3. Roman Josi – Nashville Predators – $7,700
  4. Mike Matheson – Florida Panthers – $2,900
  5. Jordan Oesterle – Arizona Coyotes – $2,600

Goalies

  1. Brian Elliott – Philadelphia Flyers – $8,200
  2. Phillip Grubauer/Pavel Francouz – Colorado Avalanche – $8,100/$8,000

2/6 NHL FanDuel Rankings

  3. Jack Eichel – Buffalo Sabres – $8,400
  4. Leon Draisaitl – Edmonton Oilers – $8,400
  5. Andre Burakovsky – Colorado Avalanche – $4,900

Defensemen

  1. Ryan Graves – Colorado Avalanche – $4,000
  2. Roman Josi – Nashville Predators – $6,700
  3. Brent Burns – San Jose Sharks – $6,400
  4. Jacob Slavin – Carolina Hurricanes – $4,400

  2. Phillip Grubauer/Pavel Francouz – Colorado Avalanche – $8,200/$7,900
  3. Carter Hutton – Buffalo Sabres – $7,400 “idiot chalk”

2/6 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Nathan MacKinnon, Jack Eichel, Leon Draisaitl – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet is now down to 27/38 as despite Auston Matthews killing it with a two-point night, both “The Breadman” and “Pasta” gave us goose eggs. I guess we need to watch our carbohydrates. The first two studs tonight are obvious, and for a third wheel you can opt for a lot of skaters but I went with Leon Draisaitl, as to stick to the theme above.

Welcome to Zak’s Puck Picks!! I started in Cash with Flash Handicapping Challenge and have been heating up. I am super excited to keep the momentum going and win some serious money with all of you!

A big part of my life is my 3 kids. Each one of them holds a different attribute that I would personally use to aid me in deciding what picks to make. My twins Pork and Ribs and their little brother Bean (not their real names but very appropriate nicknames).

Pork is a doer. He is one to dive into a situation and figure it out as it unfolds, usually with great success. In terms of the puck pick, it will be a gut feeling pick and be backed with some stats to explain the feeling.

Ribs, he likes to observe the situation, take in all the information, and then make an educated decision on what his next step will be. His puck pick will be focused around teams that are on hot streaks, either against a team in a matchup or on a winning streak.

Now Bean may sound cute and innocent, but he is a wild man. Not a lot of thought goes into actions and if there is some thought, its geared towards “how can I push Dad’s buttons”. His puck pick will be a little more on the risky side. There will be reasons why I think we should go this way.

As cook by trade and hockey as a passion since I was 3 years old, let’s get some puck picks in the oven and make some dough shall we?

All odds are referenced from vegasinsider.com. I will play ALL the picks mentioned in these articles.

Puck Record for February (11-9) last night (1-4).

Pork’s Puck Pick- New York Rangers +129

Newsday Sports reports that 7 of the last 10 matchups, the road team has come away with the victory, including 3 of the last 3. My opinion on this game may change however depending on if puck stopper Freddie Anderson is good to go or not. He suffered a potential concussion after a collision with Franky Vatrano of the Panthers Monday night, however, all reports post-game stated that Anderson passed concussion protocol and was feeling much better. If the Leafs go to Hutchison in net, I feel the Rangers could have enough firepower to pull off the upset. Stay tuned to Twitter and Discord for the final call on this game!

*Update* Anderson is not traveling with the team to New York. Hutchinson has not been stellar and has had trouble stopping the puck. Igor Shesterkin is listed to start on Newsday sports and has been great posting 3 wins out of 5 and an above .900 save percentage in all of his starts. Again I think the Rangers have enough firepower to beat the Leafs at home.

Rib’s Puck Pick- Boston -152

A fantastic original 6 matchup this one should be! With both teams coming off of a game last night so that shouldn’t be something to look at. It is projected that both teams will start their “1b” puck stoppers in Halak and Lehner. Both have won 3 of their last 5 games. The Boston pick comes from the fact that I believe that they are the more complete team. Chicago is a great offensive team and has been scoring on the regular, however, they aren’t the greatest keeping the puck out of the net. Boston’s top line has been one of the best in the NHL scoring goals. The Bruins also rank 1st in the league at goals against according to Newsday sports.com.

Bean’s Puck Pick – FA CUP Soccer- Tottenham -159

Soccer is my other love. Played it for the better part of 15 years and have followed the English league since I could afford the internet to see what was going on. The FA Cup is tricky to bet on because a lot of the top teams put out a young line up of guys that don’t usually see game action in the EPL or Champions League action. However, Tottenham has just come off of a huge 2-0 victory over Manchester City on the weekend and I believe will ride that momentum into this match.

There are a few other matchups I may like, however it depends who the puck stopper is. Stay tuned to the #nhl and # sports betting tabs on Discord, as well as Twitter for any changes or more potential matchups as more news unfolds!

I am very excited to join this team of highly skilled people at Win Daily. If you have any further questions, please feel free to find me on the Win Daily Discord chat (@Zak PRB) or on Twitter (@PRBpuckpicks) Thank you to you all for reading, let’s go make some bacon.

Top Expensive Line

Toronto One – Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner, Zach Hyman

The Toronto Maple Leafs will come into this showdown with the Rangers all rested up and their top line should be very popular. The Leafs are a -140 favorite in what should be a total shootout. Last time out, it was their second line that did the damage, but this time the roles should be reversed. The Toronto top line’s 142 shot attempts for over their last games is the best in the NHL during that period. Auston Matthews individually should definitely be one of the staples of your cash lineups.

Top Value Line

New York Rangers Two – Artemi Panarin, Ryan Strome, Jesper Fast

I had mentioned just above under the Toronto writeup that this game should be a shootout. It only makes sense to bring things back with the Ranger’s second line. This line’s 110 SATF over their last ten games is not quite as impressive as the Toronto first unit’s 142, but it is still good for eighth in the NHL over that span. Artemi Panarin is nothing short of a stud and after Auston Matthews, he would be the second skater that I jam into my cash lineups. This line is extremely affordable on both sites and should allow you to afford skaters elsewhere. Particularly with the Chris Krieder injury “he is GTD decision tomorrow”, the Rangers top line is depleted but I think that I would still write this line up based on the immense value that they provide.

Auston Matthews, Artemi Panarin, David Pastrnak – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet is now up to 27/37 so that MKF bankroll keeps climbing. Once again we have some elite skaters to choose from, despite the fact that this is a two-game slate. Normally it is perfectly acceptable to avoid the smaller slates as they are tougher as you don’t get as many studs to select from. However, tonight it should work out.

Top Expensive Line

Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog

The Colorado Avalanche come in tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning, as they are both identical -175 favorites with a 3.69 implied goal total, as of the time of writing. Both teams top lines have been phenomenal recently, as the Tampa Bay first line has ten full line goals over their last ten games, and the Avs top line has nine full line goals over their last ten games. I will give the slight nod here to the Avs, as unlike the Lightning’s opponent Las Vegas, Buffalo has been falling apart at the seams recently and should continue to regress over the second half. Nathan MacKinnon will be the most popular skater on the slate in all formats. You can play him as a one-off and I would likely go that route in cash, or you can pair him with the full line.

Top Value Line

Calgary One – Matthew Tkachuk, Elias Lindholm, Andrew Mangiapane

Tonight’s value line is a late-game hammer. Speaking of teams like the Sabres, in line for a poor second half, we have the San Jose Sharks. Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames have been flying high as of late. This line has been producing at a discount on both sites, and it does not look like they will receive a price adjustment anytime soon. Because of the game time and some bigger name teams playing before them, the Calgary Flames should go under the radar here. They come in a -180 favorite so higher than both the Avalanche and Lightning, with a healthy 3.49 implied goal total to top things off.

2/4 NHL DraftKings Rankings

  3. Torrey Krug – Boston Bruins – $4,700
  4. Mark Borowiecki – Ottawa Senators – $3,500
  5. Erik Gustafsson – Chicago Blackhawks – $3,900

Goalies

  1. Ilya Samsonov – Washington Capitals – $8,500
  2. Ben Bishop – Dallas Stars – $7,600

Top Expensive Line

Toronto One – Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner, Zach Hyman

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a -167 favorite as of the time of writing, in the game with the highest total on this slate. I like both teams in this one and think that it sets up well for a game stack. However, Auston Matthews should be the highest owned player on the slate and given how many goals the Panthers have given up on the road, if building one line, I will side with Toronto first. The Maple Leafs second line hasn’t been getting it done recently outside of William Nylander. However, the top line has 138 SATF and eight full line goals over their last ten games, tying them for fourth in the NHL during that period.

Top Value Line

Philadelphia Two – Joel Farabee, Sean Couturier, Jacob Voracek

Did you think I wouldn’t mention any lines against the Red Wings on a three-game slate? Guess again. Detroit has been better at home this season and Philly has been a lot worse on the road. However, “Slipping” Jimmy Howard should be in net and the Flyers are a -225 favorite for a reason. The first line is certainly in play and James Van Riemsdyk makes for a solid FanDuel play but the second line seems a bit underpriced recently on DraftKings. All three skaters also have a full correlation on the Philadelphia second power-play unit, on top of their even-strength pairing. On DraftKings, Jacob Voracek is $2,000 less than on FanDuel so if you play on both sites that is where to roster this line. Overall, on FanDuel it makes sense to give the first line more consideration although at $3,500 Joel Farabee is a lock.

Auston Matthews, Jonathan Huberdeau, Evgenii Dadonov – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet had it’s streak snapped and is now down to 25/35. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin grabbed a point but Alex Ovechkin gave us a rare goose-egg. For this slate, Auston Matthews should be the first man in. Next, I decided to grab some Panthers exposure so I will wait to double-check his status before placing tomorrow but would prefer Aleksander Barkov, if available. Jonathan Huberdeau would be an alternate option if Barkov is out due to an injury he picked up the other night. For the last spot, I think that you might as well go back to the Maple Leafs and Panthers, so I added Evgenii Dadonov.

This article focuses on NHL DFS Picks for 2/2 on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Alex Ovechkin is on an absolutely torrid stretch, even for his extremely high career standards. Ovi will easily be the highest owned player in all formats and there is no reason to fade him in cash games on a three-game slate. From there, the decision is how much Washington exposure you want in tournaments. They are a -140 favorite which comes in just under the Carolina Hurricanes, who are -152 favorites in their game against the Canucks. However, the Capitals 3.48 implied goal total is the highest on the slate by nearly half a point. It’s enough to make a difference, but not enough to make them a stone-cold lock. I think if you were to leave anyone out, it would be Nicklas Backstrom. You can use the two-man in tournaments, use an Ovechkin one-off, or fade completely.

Carolina Two – Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Ryan Dzingel

In the alternative, you can also use the Washington Capitals second line who remains perpetually cheap on DraftKings. However, assuming you have Alex Ovechkin and some other Washington pieces in hand, it makes sense to get some exposure to the slate’s other major favorite. If you wanted to use Justin Williams as an add on or as a replacement for Ryan Dzingel, it would be okay as a power-play stack of sorts. If that were the case, I would also incorporate Jacob Slavin who does not share even strength time with this line but quarterbacks the first power-play unit. Slavin has stepped into the Dougie Hamilton role at a discount so he should be popular.

Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet is up to 25/34 behind Pasta’s three-point night and a game-ending assist from Auston Matthews to hit four points on what had started off a very slow night. Unfortunately, the stars shootout is not available on the three-game slate. The best strategy is to take the top three skaters available regardless of team. It leads us to roster two Penguins in a game that Washington is favored to win, but so be it.

Top Two Lines

New York Rangers Two – Ryan Strome, Artemi Panarin, Jesper Fast

This feels like a repeat of last night’s article but you can re-read everything that I already said regarding the Rangers and the Red Wings. To summarize, Detroit has nearly double as bad a goal differential as the next closest team, their goalies are practically turnstiles, they stink! Not surprisingly, the Rangers dominated the Red Wings last night and get to face them again on the road end of a back to back. Both of the Ranger’s top two lines are in play and I would make sure to have Artemi Panarin in any cash lines. The Breadman had two points last night including a spectacular goal and should be back to work in the point-scoring business tonight. Mika Zibanejad got a lot of ownership last night as well, so a cross line, power play-oriented Rangers build doesn’t seem like a bad idea either.

Toronto One – Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner, Zach Hyman

This line has been one of the best in the NHL with nine full line goals over their last ten games. Toronto has a high 4.48 implied goal and comes in a heavy -280 favorite tomorrow at home against the Senators. The Sens come in on the second night of a back to back and should have their hands full here. Auston Matthews is the standout play and I would make sure to have both him and Artemi Panarin in any of my cash games. In a large field tournament, you can add the other two skaters but on a slate with so many studs, they are far from priorities in cash games or smaller tournaments.

Honorable Mention for GPPS: Tampa Bay One – Brayden Point, Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov

Top Two Lines

New York Rangers Two – Ryan Strome, Artemi Panarin, Jesper Fast

My favorite line of the night, the New York Ranger’s second line is a value line with tremendous upside. They get the best matchup that a team can ask for, as they will face the pathetic Detroit Red Wings at home. This line has nine full line goals over their last ten games, which puts them in a three-way tie for 2nd in the NHL during that span, along with Alex Ovechkin’s line and the Colorado top unit. As for the Red Wings, their -90 point differential is nearly double the next closest team, the New Jersey Devils, who are at -46. The Red Wings 199 goals surrendered also leads the NHL by a considerable margin. Bottom line, don’t overthink it.

Washington One – Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson, Nicklas Backstrom, Add-On: John Carlson

This reminds me of the other night, as paying up seems like a decision between Washington and Tampa Bay. It’s like deciding between which choice cut of steak to eat. I generally like to use Washington more in cash as they allow for more flexibility in terms of your build and tend to be higher owned, especially Alex Ovechkin. However, I think that Tampa Bay is the proper tournament pivot. Ovi’s line is tied for third in the NHL in terms of goals scored over the last ten games as mentioned above, but the Tampa Bay top line is first during that period with eleven full line goals. Tampa Bay is a -190 favorite, Washington is a -180 favorite, but the Capitals have the slightly higher total as of the time of writing if splitting hairs.

Honorable Mention: Tampa Bay One – Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point, Nikita Kucherov

Alex Ovechkin, Artemi Panarin, David Pastrnak – Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet is up to 23/32 so really rolling as of late. Tonight’s lineup should be illegal. You can also use Nikita Kucherov or Steven Stamkos instead of Pasta but it’s splitting hairs. I will probably make a few combinations.
