The Betting Game Plan

I hate parlays. They truly are idiot’s bets. However, I do not like much else here, as no individual goal or shot odds have me drooling and most of the totals and lines seem fairly accurate. So might as well load up on two teams that should take care of business against a pair of bottom feeders.

Top DraftKings Line

Carolina One (Sebastian Aho, Nido Niederreiter, Teuvo Teravainan), recommended add on Dougie Hamilton, optional power play stack add-ons Andrei Svechnikov and Vincent Trocheck

On a ten game slate, there is no need to worry about ownership. Given the scoring odds, combined with salary, the Carolina Hurricanes top line makes a lot of sense. The Canes at -200 fall just slightly behind Las Vegas for the title of the slate’s top favorite.

Sebastian Aho is the corner stone at a $7,100 price that is a bit cheaper than his elite peers at the center position. Nido Niederreiter provides us with salary relief at $3,800. Finally, Teuvo Teravainan fills out the top line and has first unit power play correlation with Aho.

The two players alongside Aho are not what really get me excited about stacking up the Hurricanes. Dougie Hamilton has far and away the highest scoring odds of any defenseman and has full top line and power play correlation. If focusing on the power play, Andrei Svechnikov and Vincent Trocheck also make fine additions.

Top FanDuel Line

Las Vegas Two (William Karlsson, Reilly Smith, Johnathan Marchessault) Recommended Add-On Shea Theodore, Optional Power Play Add-Ons Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone

You can similarly play Carolina One on FanDuel. In fact, Dougie Hamilton is super cheap there, so you should definitely at least play him. However, for the sake of being different, let’s turn to the other big favorite on the slate. On DraftKings, I would prefer turning to the top line, given that Max Pacioretty seems a bit underpriced at $6,900.

Nevertheless, with William Karlsson only $5,200, Reilly Smith $4,900 and Johnathan Marchessault $6,300, they leave plenty of salary remaining to add Shea Theodore and a lot more.

This article focuses on 9/28 NHL Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook and Fanduel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. All rankings are site specific.

NHL Game Plan

The Breakdown

Game Five looked like it would be the last of the Stanley Cup Final. Tampa Bay had a goal lead heading into the final ten minutes and just had to close it out. However, a late Dallas goal would send things into overtime. From there it would go to a second overtime, as Dallas found a way to survive.

Congratulations to Dallas for making it this far. However, the Stars only managed one shot in the first overtime. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay controlled around 75% of the possession time while launching several shots and really controlled the game. It was a fortunate result for the Stars, but one that is unlikely to repeat. This series may end similarly to the Lightning/Islanders series where the Islanders won Game Five in double overtime, only for the series to end Game Six.

Once again, double down on the Lightning. You don’t have to root for them if you don’t want to, but this should be the end of the series unless Dallas can find a way to continue to defy the numbers.

This article focuses on 9/25 NHL Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook and Fanduel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. All rankings are site specific.

NHL Game Plan

The Breakdown

As predicted, the Lightning came out and absolutely smoked Dallas in Game Three, in the process, taking a 2-1 series lead. Steven Stamkos made a surprise return, even scoring a goal on his first and only shot. However, he also ended up leaving the game early, only spending a total of three minutes on the ice. Heading into game four, Stamkos status is up in the air.

Nevertheless, Tampa Bay has all of the momentum at this point. If Dallas wins this game, it will be playing a style of hockey similar to the Islanders, where they will surrender most of the possession in order to play off of the counter attack. That style, while tactically logical, does not lend itself to fantasy much goodness. Therefore, it’s time to “ride the lightning” once again.

This article focuses on 9/23 NHL Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook and Fanduel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. All rankings are site specific.

NHL Game Plan

The Breakdown

The prediction in the last article ended up hitting. The Lightning not only drew the series even, but did so on the backs of our top ranked players.

It makes sense to go back to well here and barring any changes, ride the lightning for the remainder of the series. If I believe that is going to change, I will provide a further update. Tampa Bay outshot Dallas in both games “by a significant amount in Game One, 36-20” and that trend should continue throughout this series, which is the Lightning’s to lose.

One x-factor to be on the watch for is the potential return of Steven Stamkos. His return in the finals seemed a likely possibility about a week ago. However, the prospect of Stamkos returning tends to lessen each day. Stamkos has been participating in the team’s morning skate but may not be able to get quite healthy in time. Either way, I guess we will find out his Game Three status shortly.

We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. All rankings are site specific.

NHL Game Plan

The Breakdown

Because of the nature of elimination games, this slate did not pop up until well after midnight ET last night with an earlier lock than usual so I will try to get straight to the ranks to have this up with enough time before lock.

I would think Las Vegas finally ends their unlucky streak of losing while outshooting Vancouver by a ton. Meanwhile, Colorado should continue it’s momentum given some of their newfound confidence.

This article focuses on 8/31 NHL Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook and Fanduel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. All rankings are site specific.

8/31 NHL Game Plan

The Breakdown

The second round of the playoffs continue with a pair of elimination games, as we have a two game Monday slate with a 7pm ET lock start on both sites.

The slate begins with the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are looking to close out Boston Bruins, already up three games to one. Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars look to do the same to the Avalanche later on and pull off the series upset.

The Dallas/Colorado series has been chock full of goals, so that is where I would turn first, with Anton Khudobin a tournament option, just in case you think that tonight the Stars finish things off. My inclination is that the Avalanche have at least one more big game left in them, although they will lose the series.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has been pounding Boston and comes in fairly affordable, particularly on DraftKings. The Bruins make for more of a contrarian tournament option, given their failures so far throughout this series. The B’s “Perfection Line” makes for a great pivot, particularly in large field tournaments. As far as the Lightning side goes, Ondrej Palat has been getting involved with all of the Tampa Bay goals recently and strikes me as a prime value option.
