Detroit Red Wings

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Saturday and that means we have plenty of games to navigate through.  The NHL schedule makers have blessed us with a very manageable 9-game slate of NHL DFS.  This slate packs a lot of punch.  We have some teams in great spots and we also have some games that are going to be boring that we can cross of our list from the starts.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Alex Lyon vs. Ottawa Senators

Alex Lyon has been playing some great hockey of late.  Over the last 3 weeks, Lyon has started 4 games for the Red Wings.  In those 4 starts, he’s been exceptional.  He’s posted a save % of .959, while allowing just 1.25 goals per game.  He’s going to have his hands somewhat full tonight vs. an above-average Ottawa Senators offense.

That said, I like this spot for him and so does Vegas as the Red Wings are -130 favorites in this one.  With a price tag of $7.8k, I’ll be all over Lyon in both GPP’s and Cash games.  He has 4 straight games of at least 15 DK points.  Look for him to make it 5 straight games as he continues to play stellar hockey this season.

Juuse Saros vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

The matchup isn’t the best for Juice tonight, but the price tag is and so is his play of late.  At just $7.1k on DK tonight, we’re getting a goalie that is extremely inexpensive and one that is playing lights out right now.  Apart from his 1 start vs. Minnesota at the end of November, Saros 7 games over 13 DK points in his last 8 games.  He should face a barrage of shots tonight against a Leafs team that is taking around 30 shots on goal per game.

There is plenty of upside for Saros tonight at this price.  Even if he lets in a couple of goals, it’s not going to kill us at this price point.  He’s one of the best value goalies on this slate.  With all that being said, he’s reserved strictly for GPP’s tonight.

Other goalies: Thatcher Demko and Cam Talbot

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Detroit 1 (Dylan Larkin, Robby Fabbri, Lucas Raymond) vs. Ottawa Senators

This is an absolute smash spot for the Detroit Red Wings tonight.  The Senators have been giving up around 3 goals per game over the last couple of weeks.  In net for them tonight will be Joonas Korpisalo.  Korpisalo has been statistically one of the worst goalies over the past few weeks.  He’s only played 2 games over the last 3 weeks, but those 2 games have been awful.  He’s allowed 9 goals over those 2 games with a save % of just .850.  This is the type of goalie that we need to target when he’s in net.

This top line for Detroit is where most of the scoring comes from.  Over their last 5 games, this trio has combined for 8 goals and 10 assists.  That’s the type of production I love to see and he should really help us get to the top of the leaderboards with the matchup that they have.  Outside of Larkin, this line is also very affordable.

Both Fabbri and Raymond are in the low $5k range this evening.  They are also the most productive of the 3, making them my priority tonight.  You can certainly add in Larkin, but Fabbri and Raymon are my core with this line.  Expect this line to have a solid night against a Senators team that isn’t solid defensively right now.

Rangers 2 (Artemi Panarin, Vincent Trochek, Alexis  Lafrenière) vs. Seattle Kraken

The New York Rangers head south tonight to take on the Capitals in the nation’s capital.  This second unit for the New York Rangers has been a money maker for me this season as they’ve been one of the most productive lines in all of hockey on a consistent basis.  They’ll get a strong matchup tonight vs. a Capitals team that has given up 3.50 goals per game over the last couple of weeks.  They are also giving up well over 30 shots on goal per game.

Artemi Panarin is the star of the show with this line.  He’s been solid all year and is on pace to have his first 100-point season of his career.  He’s already up to 16 goals on the year and pacing to have his first 40-goal season of his career as well.  The Breadman is so far making a strong case for the Hart Trophy.

Alongside him will be Trochek and Laf.  Both guys are playing some amazing hockey and have reveled playing alongside Panarin.  Look for this line to continue their torrid play in a great matchup vs. an aging Capitals team.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Buffalo 1 and 2 vs. Montreal

Montreal 1 vs. Buffalo

Toronto 1 vs. Nashville

LA 1 and 2 vs. Islanders

Blues 1 vs. Chicago

TB 1 and 2 vs. Seattle

Value D

Cam York – $4.2k

Mikhail Sergachev – $4.7k

Alexander Romanov – $3.7k

Colton Parayko – $4.3k

Ben Chiarot – $3.3k

Mattias Samuelsson – $3.2k

NHL DFS Summary

We have a solid slate tonight. I didn’t mention them in my top stacks, but I love this spot for Los Angeles tonight.  Especially the second line of Danault, Fiala, and Moore.

Welcome to Between the Benches, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Thursday and that means we have a Hockey Night!  We have a massive 11-game slate tonight that we’ll want to navigate through.  This slate brings us some really solid matchups.  There are some lopsided matchups in this one and there are also some really boring games that we’ll be able to cross right off our list.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Karel Vejmelka vs. St. Louis Blues

When in doubt, play Vej!  I plan on utilizing him heavily tonight as he fits the bill I’m looking for.  He’s cheap.  At just $7.6k on DK tonight he’ll give us some serious payroll flexibility without the loss of productivity.  On the year, Vejmelka has had some decent numbers.  While he’s 2-4, I’m more focused on the save % that’s north of .900.  He also has a respectable GAA at 3.09.

The Coyotes have been a little more stout defensively this season as they’re only allowing around 33 shots per game over the last couple of weeks.  That’s more than enough volume however to get us a goalie that should hit value tonight.  With all that said, Vejmelka should be more reserved for GPP’s as there’s a good chance he does not get the W tonight.

James Reimer vs. Montreal Canadiens

The Detroit Red Wings will turn over the crease to James Reimer this evening and that has me really intrigued.  He’s only started 4 games this season but boy has he been good!  He’s sporting a .944 save % and a GAA of just 1.52.  In the 4 games he’s started he’s failed to get into double-digit DK points just once.  In that game, he was still positive as he scored 7 DK points.  I’m willing to roll the dice with him here as he’s a very affordable $7.9k on DK.  That’s a very fair price given his production and matchup.

This is a Canadiens team that just doesn’t have a lot of firepower.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’re scoring just 2.83 goals per game, while taking around 31 shots on goal.  This is a goalie you can certainly use in Cash games if that’s your thing.  The Red Wings are heavy favorites here at -170.  Lock and load with Reimer!

Other goalies: Thatcher Demko, Jake Oettinger, and Alexandar Georgiev.

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Edmonton 1 (Connor McDavid, Ryan McCleod, Zach Hyman) vs. San Jose Sharks

With his being an 11-game slate tonight, there should be plenty of value options for us to find to be able to afford this top unit for Edmonton.  While the Sharks are fresh off their first win of the season vs. the Flyers, this is a bad team that will continue to do bad things.  Through 12 games this season, the Sharks have a -42 goal differential.  They are on a record pace to be a historically bad team.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’re giving up 5.50 goals per game and nearly 17 high-danger chances.  They are bad and we should stack against them any chance we get, except when they play the Flyers of course.

The start of the season has surely been a disappointment for the top player in the NHL.  Through 9 games, McDavid has just 8 10 points.  For someone who had 153 points in 82 games last year, he’s off to a very slow pace.  If ever there was a game on the schedule where we’d see a vintage McDavid performance, this is it!  He’s an absolute lock for me this evening.  I do wish he was playing alongside Leon Draisaitl, but he’s still in a great spot tonight.

I plan on locking him up with Zach Hyman by his side. These 2 not only play together on the top unit, they also play together on the top power-play unit for Edmonton.  They’ll have plenty of chances to score this evening, making them a very intriguing option.  Min-priced Ryan McLeod makes a nice addition for us at an extremely cheap price.  He’s nowhere near a must-play, but this cheap playing next to McDavid is very appealing.

Vancouver 1 (Elias Pettersson, Ilya Mikheyev, Andrei Kuzmenko) vs. Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are coming off a hard-earned win last night and should have some tired legs in this one.  Because of that, I’m going to be stacking against them with the top unit for Vancouver  I wouldn’t argue with you if you decided to drop down to the second unit but I’m mostly interested in this top line.  The Canucks will more than likely be shooting on Anton Forsberg this evening.

Forsberg has not been good.  Over his 4 starts this season, Forsberg has just a .861 save % and has allowed 3.42 goals per game.  Both of those numbers are close to the bottom of all the goalies expected to start tonight.  Whenever I see numbers like this, I stack against them.

My main focus on this line will be Elias Pettersson as he’s the anchor here.  Over his last 5 games, Pettersson has been really solid with 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points.  Only Quinn Hughes has more points for the Canucks over that stretch.  Pettersson has also been averaging close to 3.5 shots per game, putting him right in the square of the offense.  Neither Mikheyev nor Kuzmenko is a priority and they are both evenly priced.  If I had to pick between the 2 of them, I’d pick Kuzemnko as he does just a little bit more on offense.  Kuzmenko will also skate with Pettersson on the top power-play unit which makes him all the more appealing.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Boston 1 or 2 vs. Islanders

Detroit 1 vs. Montreal (they are close to my second favorite stack right behind Vancouver)

Ottawa 2 vs. Vancouver

Rangers 1 vs. Minnesota (Fleury is passed his prime)

Minnesota 1 vs. Rangers (Rangers are starting a 3rd string Goalie)

TB 1 and 2 vs. Chicago

LA 1 vs. Pittsburgh

Value D

Mason Lohrei ($2.5k) – Double digit DK points in 2 of 3 games

Jeff Petry ($2.8k) – Double digit DK points in back to back games

Neal Pionk ($3.2k)

Filip Hronek ($4.3k)

NHL DFS Summary

This is a great looking slate that should be high scoring. I’m all in on the Oilers as I think the Sharks come back down to earth after their dismantling of the LOL Flyers.

Welcome to Between the Benches, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Tuesday and for those that follow the hockey schedule, you know this means we have a massive slate on our hands.  While all NHL teams are in action tonight, we are blessed with 26 teams playing on tonight’s main slate.  We’ll have plenty of options to stack, pick a goalie, and also some great value defensemen that will open up salary to get our favorite stacks.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Filip Gustavsson vs. Edmonton Oilers

We should see our good ole friend Filip  Gustavsson in between the pipes tonight for the Minnesota Wild.  So far this season we’ve seen a little bit of everything from Gustavsson.  We’ve seen a 41-save shutout, a game where he gave up 7 goals and a game where he got the OT loss while also giving up 5 goals.  So yeah, we’ve seen polar opposite performances from him in the young season.  I really like this spot for him though this evening.

He’ll be facing off against an Edmonton team that will be with their star, Connor McDavid.  That puts a huge dent into the offensive power that the Oilers can possess.  If we look past the top line of Edmonton, they have little that should scare us.  Look for Gusty to rebound tonight and bring back some of that opening-night magic. He’s also only $7.9 on DK.

Igor Shesterkin vs. Calgary Flames

Another goalie that has seen some inconsistent play this season is Igor Shesterkin.  He’s put together 2 gems and 2 duds.  With a date against the Calgary Flames tonight, I like his chances of returning to the glory land that saw him put up 21 DK points vs. the Coyotes and 19 vs. Buffalo.  He’s one of the top goaltenders in the league and I fully expect him to have a monster night as the Rangers continue their swing through the North West corner of North America.

We can rarely get a goalie of Shesterkin’s magnitude for less than $8k on DK, and that’s what we’re going to be dealing with tonight as his price is just $7.9k.  I’ll take my chances with Shesty as the Flames are scoring less than 3 goals per game on the young season.

Other goalies: Ilya Sorokin ($7.3k on DK) and Anthony Solarz ($8.2k on DK)

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Florida 1 (Aleksander Barkov, Evan Rodrigues, Sam Reinhart) vs. San Jose Sharks

The Florida Panthers get the advantage of not only playing at home tonight but also playing against the winless San Jose Sharks.  The Sharks have so far been a mess this season, losing 4 of their first 5 games.  The only point they have so far is thanks to an OT loss.  They have struggled both on offense and defense as they are scoring just 1.4 goals per game and allowing nearly 4 goals per game.  Most importantly, they are giving up a ton of high-danger chances at 18 per game.  It’s going to be tough to win games when you are giving up that many high-danger chances.  In net for the Sharks will be Mackenzie Blackwood who has been awful to start the year as he has a GAA of 3.89.

My love for this line starts with Sam Reinhart.  Reinhart has been playing some amazing hockey to start the season.  He’s scored a goal in 4 of his team’s first 5 games and has essentially been shooting at will as he has been averaging nearly 4 shots on goal per game.  Having him paired with Barkov this season has been a blessing for him.

Speaking of Barkov, while he’s only found the back of the net once so far this season he does have 6 helpers for the team lead.  Look for this line to dominate tonight and for Reinhart to continue his exceptional play to start the year.  Can he make it 5 straight games with at least 20 DK points?  I sure hope so because he’ll be a lock in my lineups tonight.

Detroit 1 (Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond) vs. Seattle Kraken

The Detroit Red Wings offense has started out the season on absolute fire. Through their first 6 games of the year, they are averaging 5 goals per game.  That is by far the most of any team so far on this young season.  A big reason why they have been scoring has been the play of the newest shiny weapon, Alex DeBrincat.  The former Senator and Blackhawk have been playing some amazing hockey so far.  Through his first 6 games, DeBrincat is already up to 12 points thanks to his 8 goals.  He’s had multiple goals in 4 games so far this season, including a hat trick in his last game against Calgary.

I love the idea of pairing DeBrincat with Larkin tonight.  While Larkin only has 3 goals so far on this young season, he does have 8 assists.  These 2 players have been great together so far and although the Kraken are a bit stingy on defense and not the sloppiest of teams, they can be had and these 2 having home-ice advantage tonight should help them continue with the momentum they have built thus far.  Adding Lucas Raymond to this line gives us nice value as he’s only $4.2k.

Rangers 2 (Filip Chytil/Artemi Panarin/Alexis Lafreniere) vs. Calgary Flames

I’ve given 2 expensive lines so it’s only fair I give a cheapy.  Well, the line is cheap for the most part after Panarin.  While Panarin is the start of this line, I really like both Chytil and Lafreniere (Laf).  To say that Laf has thus far been a disappointment would be an accurate statement.  Something we need to remember is that he’s only 22 and is finally coming into his own.  He’s been playing much better this season and is a solid value for us tonight if you go with an expensive line to start.  At just $3.2k on DK, he’s someone who should see plenty of opportunities to score tonight while paired with Panarin.  Chytil himself is also a solid value at $4.3k.  Both of these kids can easily find the net tonight against the Flames.

Other stacks I like tonight:

Tampa 1 or 2 vs. Carolina

Montreal 3 vs. Jersey

Jersey 1 vs. Montreal

Boston 1 and 2 vs. Chicago

Minnesota 1 and 2 vs. Edmonton

Value D

Jacob Trouba – 4.2 blocks per game

Mario Ferraro – 6 shots plus blocks per game over last 5

Jacob Slavin – 5 shots plus blocks per game over last 5

Matt Roy – 5 shots plus blocks per game over last 5

NHL DFS Summary

This is a massive slate that can take us in multiple directions.  I plan on going heavy with both the Red Wings and Panthers tonight.

Today’s article is going to focus on tonight’s 5 game NHL main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel.  With the trade deadline just days away, we’re going to want to keep a continued look at lineups up until the game starts.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

Goaltending

I’ll start by saying goalie tonight is horrendous.  No goalie is safe, but we do need to pick one, so let’s dive in and try to find one.

Andre Vasilevskiy ($8.2K DK/$8.5k FD) vs. New York Rangers – I used a goalie against the Rangers last weekend and it ended up burning me as the Rangers exploded for a bunch of goals.  I just don’t see it happening tonight vs. a much better goalie in Vasilevskiy and a much better defensive team in the Lightning.

After a little bit of a rough stretch for Vasilevskiy, he has back to back games giving up just 1 goal in each.  Rangers struggle to score goals at time, as evidenced by their 1 goal game against the Islanders on Thursday.  Look for them to struggle again tonight against a stout team and goalie.

Alex Nedeljkovic ($7.6k DK/$7.3k FD) vs. Seattle Kraken – This is a high risk, high reward pick tonight.  It’s tough to stomach playing Nedeljkovic, but he gets a great matchup and showed some life in his last game against the Canucks with a shutout.  Seattle is a team that really struggles to score goals.

Over the last month they’re averaging just 2.25 goals per game.  Not a good mark and it’s something that we can be somewhat confident in attacking. While this season has been a struggle for Nedeljkovic, he got back on track the other night and the matchup tonight should help build his confidence back up.

Stacks

Nashville 1 (Johansen, Forsberg, Duchene) vs. Toronto

The hockey world has so far fallen in love with Kallgren. Through his first 3 games played, he’s been “brilliant” allowing just 3 goals.  While he’s been great, tonight will be his first taste of road hockey.  He also has some metrics that show he may be playing with fire.  So far, he’s giving up a ton of rebounds.  At some point, giving up that many rebounds is going to bite him.

I do think that Nashville gets to him tonight and this top line is where I want to go.  The duo of Duchene and Forsberg has been great of late, with 9 goals and 20 points in their last 5.  They are clicking right now and with the matchup tonight, they’re my top stack.  I know Vegas has the Predators at just 2.25 goals tonight, but they are wrong on this one.

Montreal 1 (Suzuki, Caufield, Armia) + Petry vs. Ottawa

Ottawa will be giving Forsberg a breather tonight and going with Gustavsson in net.  On the year, Gustavsson has a poultry 3.68 goals against average.  He’s played sparing over the last few months, but when he’s been in net, it’s been good for the other team.

Caufield and Suzuki have been playing very well together recently.  Over their last 5 games, they’ve combined for 8 goals and 12 points.  They also have more 30 scoring chances between them.  On DK, Caufield is still somehow below $5k and it just seems like a mispricing.  He has 3 straight games of at least 18 DK points and if he continues with that tonight like he should, he makes for a great value.   Another great value on this Canadiens squad is Jeff Petry at just $4.1k.  He’s been over 14 DK points in each of his last 4 thanks to his shots plus blocks average of 6.4.  My core with the Habs will be Suzuki, Caufield, and Petry.

Detroit 1 (Larkin, Namestnikov, Raymond) vs. Seattle

In his last 7 games of action, Grubauer hasn’t given up less than 3 goals in any game.  On the year he has a goals-against average over 3.20.  That’s a number I really want to attack tonight.  It’s been a bit of a struggle for Larkin of late as he just 1 goal in his last 10 games.  What has me motivated to play him tonight is that he’s still shooting the puck a healthy amount, with an average of 2.5 per game over his last 5.  I think he bounces back in a big way tonight vs. a poor team.  I plan on pairing him with Raymond who is having a pretty successful rooking campaign, with 19 goals and 27 assists.  Over his last 5, Raymond has 3 goals and stands a very good chance to add to that number tonight.  Detroit has the potential in this matchup to be one of the highest-scoring teams on the slate.

Toronto is always in play, but just not one of my top stacks against a team Nashville.  Saros struggled against the Philly the other night, but that’s not the norm for him.  His superb goaltending can limit the upside of the Maple Leafs.

Other stacks (Ott 1 and 2, Mon 3, Tor 1 and 2, Cgy 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Jeff Petry – $4.1k on DK – 14 shots and 18 blocks over his last 5, lock him in
  • Roman Josi – Playing unreal right now, 10 assists in his last 5.  If you can afford him, play him.
  • Mattias Ekholm – $3.7k on DK and has 16 shots over his last 5 to go with 5 blocks.  Great Value
  • Adam Fox
  • Travis Hamonic
  • Moritz Seider
  • TJ Brodie

Vegas

Vegas has Nashville at just 2.25 goals tonight. They should smash that number

Summary

Tonight’s looking like a fun slate.  On some of these expected goal numbers, I really think Vegas got it wrong.  2.25 for Nashville vs. Toronto and 2.25 for Detroit vs. Seattle are numbers that just seem way off.

Make sure to use our optimizer when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  I’m Jared and I’ll be your host.  Tonight we have a nice sized 8 game slate where I’ll be highlighting some of my top plays for tonight’s NHL slate on Fanduel and Draftkings.

Before we dive in I want to highlight some terms you’ll see in my article that may be foreign to you:

  • Corsi – Any shot attempt (goals, shots on net, misses and blocks) outside of the shootout
  • Even Strength – Play where both teams have the same number of players (including goalies) on the ice. Includes 5v5, 4v4, 3v3
  • Power Play – Play where the team has more players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 5v4, 5v3, 4v3
  • Penalty Kill – Play where the team has fewer players on the ice than their opponent due to penalties. Includes 4v5, 3v4, 3v5

Goaltending

Jacob Markstrom($7.9k DK/$7.9k FD) vs. Winnipeg Jets – Jets are a team that have some fire power, but recently they’ve been shooting blanks.  Over the past 2 weeks the Jets have one of the worst shooting percentages of any team on tonight’s slate.  It’s sitting at just 5.37%.  They’re firing at will as they have been averaging over 34 shots per game during that stretch but nothing is finding the back of the net.

The Jets have been averaging just 1.86 goals per game over their past 7 games.  In Markstrom we have an elite goalie who has a 1.73 GAA on the year and a .940 save %.  All signs point to Markstrom having a solid night and being one of the best values in net.

Ville Husso ($7.8k DK/$7.8k FD) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – Husso has only played in 2 games this season.  1 game he was brilliant, the other game he was average.  Tonight he faces a Blue Jackets team on the tail end of a back to back set.

They’ve been averaging around 33 shots per game over the past 2 week so we know there’s a good chance that Husso gets some volume tonight.  If he plays like he did in his first start with that type of volume he stands a good chance of having a solid night tonight.

Goalie is a train wreck in my opinion tonight.  Outside of Markstrom I have little comfort in any goalie.  Normally I’d put a goalie vs. the Canadiens, but have no interest in DeSmith.  You could make a case for Cal Petersen but he’s more than I’d like to pay for a goalie.

Stacks

Detroit 1 (Larkin/Bertuzzi/Raymond) + Seider or DeKeyser

If you have followed me this season, you know my affinity for the Red Wings.  They are a high risk, high reward type of team.  Tonight I love the spot for them.  The Sabres as a team are a mess defensively.  They’re giving up more than 4 goals per game on average in their last 7 games.  As per usual with the Red Wings, Larkin and Raymond are my priority.

The two of them have combined for 6 goals and 12 points over their past 5 games.  They also play together on the top power play unit.  For this stack, I’d also consider adding in Seider.  While his price has crept up there, he plays with Larkin and Raymond on the top power play also.  He’s also getting more than 4 shots plus blocks in his last 5 games.

Los Angeles 1 (Kempe/Arvidsson/Kopitar) + Roy

The Kings have been struggling of late.  Over the past 2 weeks they’ve only scored 9 goals in their 5 games.  There’s no better slump buster than the Ottawa Senators.  This is a great bounce back spot for the Kings.  While they haven’t been scoring much of late, the top line is where I want to stay tonight.  Kempe and Arvidsson are my priorities here as they are the ones playing the best of late.

Over their last 5 games they each have individual corsi’s of at least 25.  Between the 2 of them they have 20 high danger chances over that stretch too.  At some point, they’re going to break back through and it should be tonight.  Kempe, Arvidsson, and Roy all play together on the top power play as well so they’ll correlate throughout the game.

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby/Guentzel/Kapanen) + Letang

The Canadiens are another team that is an absolute mess.  Over their last 7 games the are giving up more than 4.2 goals per game and over 37 shots.  Teams are just firing at will against them.  The Sabres had 39 shots and 4 goals against them last night.  There’s no reason to think that the Penguins can’t replicate that tonight.

I love both the top lines for Pittsburgh tonight but my preference is the top due to how well Guentzel has been playing.  Over his past 5 games he has 25 scoring chances, with 15 being considered high danger.   My priority here would be Guentzel and Kapanen.  Crosby is starting to heat up a bit as he has 11 shots over his past 3 games. That said, $7.1k on DK is still a lot to pay for someone that hasn’t been scoring.

Other stacks (Both top lines for Edmonton, Pittsburgh 2, STL PP1, Col 2, CGY 1)

Top Defenseman

  • Cale Maker – Colorado Avalanche
  • Roman Josi – Nashville Predators
  • Jakob Chychrun – Arizona Coyotes
  • Esa Lindell – Dallas Stars
  • Kris Russell – Edmonton Oilers
  • Vladislav Gavrikov – Columbus Blue Jackets

Summary

We may see some sloppy hockey tonight as nearly half the teams playing tonight played last night.  Sloppy normally means some extra goals.  Markstrom is my top goalie tonight and it’s not really close.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Goaltending

Juuse Saros ($7.7k DK/$7.2k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – Any chance I get I try to pick on the lowly Montreal Canadiens.  Offensively, they’ve been a mess.  Over the last 2 weeks they’ve been averaging just 2 goals per game on around 32 shots.  Quick math tells me that’s just an awful shooting % at just a shade over 6%.  So the Canadiens are shooting the puck, just with no success.

In Saros we have a goalie that’s been playing pretty well, but not great.  He hasn’t had a game under 14 DK points since early November so we know he’s not going to kill us.  There should be some upside with Saros tonight with how the Canadiens have been playing.  He’s one of my favorites tonight on FD as he’s only $7.2k there.

Jacob Markstrom ($7.6k DK/$7.9k FD) vs. New York Islanders – I’m chasing the ceiling with Markstrom tonight.  He’s had back to back stellar games with more than 26 DK points in both.  In his last game he shut out the Buffalo Sabres.  With the matchup against the Islanders tonight he’s facing another team here that has an extremely low shooting %.

Over the last 2 weeks the Islanders have just a 4% shooting %.  That’s insanely low and while I expect to see some positive regression with them at some point, I just don’t see tonight against one of the top goalies in the league.  This is the cheapest that Markstrom has been on DK since late October.  His price went down $900 on DK after his shutout.  I’m all in on him tonight.

Jack Campbell ($8.3k DK/$8.7k FD) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins – I’ll start by saying I’m going to live with my top 2 goalie choices tonight in Saros and Markstrom.  If you want to go the expensive route Campbell deserves some consideration.

He’s been lights out in November.  In the 8 games he has started this month he’s been under 20 DK points just twice.  The Penguins are getting healthy with Crosby back in the lineup but I don’t think they’ll be any match up for the surging Maple Leafs and Canadiens.

Stacks

Detroit 1 (Larkin/Bertuzzi/Raymond) + Seider or DeKeyser

I absolutely love Detroit tonight. They’re facing off against a Coyotes team tonight that’s just downright bad.  They are certainly priced up tonight but w/ the match up I get it.  The Coyotes have been giving up close to 33 shots per game over the past 2 weeks with a save % under 90%.  Any time I see that combo I’m automatically intrigued by the matchup.

The Coyotes also have a slate worst 42% corsi over the past 2 weeks.  Offenses are hammering them right now.  Any offense w/ the Red Wings starts with Larkin.  When he’s on the ice and the Red Wings score he’s always involved.  My priority here would be Larkin and Raymond.  Bertuzzi’s price is getting up there while the production hasn’t.  Bertuzzi is far more playable on FD tonight.

Vegas 1 (Stephenson/Stone/Dadanov) + Hague or Pietrangelo

Let’s start by saying that the Columbus Blue Jackets gave up 4 goals to the Coyotes on Thursday night.  The goaltending for them has been pretty shaky of late.  Merzlikins has given up 12 goals over his last 3 games after starting out the year pretty solidly. In 4 of his last 5 starts he’s had a save % under .900.

With the Golden Knights tonight we should be able to find some goals.  With Mark Stone back in the lineup the Golden Knights get back one of their key weapons.  He’s had an assist in each of his last 3 games.  My core in this stack is going to be Stone, Dadanov, and Hague.  Hague at just $3.6k on DK feels like an absolute steal w/ his production of late.

Edmonton 1 (McDavid/Puljujarvi/Hyman)

You know the drill.  When McDavid is on the ice, he’s in play.  Thankfully for us he gets a solid matchup tonight vs. a Blackhawks team that has one of the worst Corsi’s of any team on the ice tonight.  They’re Corsi % over the past two weeks is at 43%.  Only the Coyotes have a worse number of the teams playing tonight.

While I love Hyman, I’m more than likely going to pair him with Pulj tonight due to the savings.  Over his past 5 games Pulj is averaging nearly 3 shots + blocks so we know we’ll get some productivity out of him.  Look for McDavid to continue his dominance over the NHL Tonight.

Other stacks (Edmonton 2, CBJ 1, STL 1, NSH 1, Tor 1 or 2)

Top Defenseman

  • Zach Werenski – Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Seth Jones – Chicago Blackhawks
  • Charlie McAvoy – Boston Bruins
  • Nicolas Hague – Vegas Golden Knights
  • Dante Fabbro – Nashville Predators
  • Martin Fehervary – Washington Capitals

Summary

We have a fun looking slate tonight.  There are 4 games w/ a total of 6 and the rest of 5.5.  We should definitely see some offense tonight.  I can’t wait to see what a young Red Wings team can do tonight vs. an awful defensive team in the Coyotes.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!
