Detroit Pistons

There may only be six games on the NBA schedule tonight, but many have playoff implications to them. Teams continue to fight injuries and aim to get healthy before the postseason, while others battle it out for the Play-In round. It’s a Mojito Monday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Portland Trail Blazers @ Detroit Pistons (+5.5)

Portland Trail Blazers (-5.5)

Despite being on the outside looking in, Portland has a real shot to make the NBA Play-In tournament. On an Eastern Conference road trip, the Trail Blazers squeaked by Orlando last night and must win this game versus Detroit. Thus, Damian Lillard will need to give it all he’s got to carry his team to another victory on the second half of a back-to-back. After another 40-point performance last night, Lillard has now averaged 38.1/5.6/6.2 over his last 15 appearances. Moreover, the duo of Jerami Grant and Cam Reddish are good ways to get exposure to an elite offense, if you cannot get to Dame Time.

Detroit Pistons (+5.5)

Riddled with injuries, the Pistons will be one of, if not the most popular rotation on the NBA slate. Detroit will be without the trio of Bojan Bogdanovic, Jalen Duren, and Isaiah Stewart, in addition to Killian Hayes and James Wiseman listed as questionable. Until their final injury report is released, this rotation is up in the air. However, look for Marvin Bagley and Hamidou Diallo to play significant roles, in addition to Alec Burks, should any combination of Hayes and/or Wiseman miss this game.

New Orleans Pelicans @ Sacramento Kings (-5.5)

New Orleans Pelicans (+5.5)

A team that once looked to be poised to make noise in the NBA Playoffs has been suffering from injuries all season long. Brandon Ingram missed significant time earlier this year, while Zion Williamson has been out since the first week of January. After missing the team’s last two games, Jonas Valanciunas returned to practice and is a candidate to return, but will have to test out his calf injury before getting the green light. Thus, the backcourt duo of CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram will have to carry this offense. The former turned in two elite performances in the absence of Valanciunas, averaging 24.5/6.5/6 during that span. Moreover, Ingram continues to lead the team in field goal attempts, amassing 20 or more in five of his last seven appearances.

Sacramento Kings (-5.5)

With De’Aaron Fox listed as questionable, the Kings’ injury report will be crucial to this NBA slate. There is no indication that Fox will miss this game, but if he does, the Kings’ supporting cast will have to step up in a tight Western Conference playoff picture. Harrison Barnes has now dropped 20 or more points in three straight games, averaging 23/6.7/1.3 on 56.8% shooting. Moreover, Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter will have more shot attempts if Fox is ruled out, but no one will have a more important role than Domantas Sabonis. The all-star has nine double-doubles over his last ten games, averaging 20.7/12.8/6.4 on 63.7% shooting during that span.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Philadelphia 76ers @ Indiana Pacers (+6.5)
  • Atlanta Hawks @ Miami Heat (-3.5)

Tonight’s NBA slate will be altered by final injury reports. While rebuilding teams have many players ruled out, others are on the second half of a back-to-back. It’s a Wet Wednesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Chicago Bulls @ Detroit Pistons (+5.5)

Chicago Bulls (-5.5)

The Bulls are on the second half of a back-to-back, meaning this is a key injury report to monitor. Should one of Nikola Vucevic, Zach Lavine, or DeMar DeRozan end up sitting this game, the other two will quickly rise up the player rankings of this NBA slate. However, if all three suit up, Zach Lavine and DeMar DeRozan are the preferred targets. The two have had lackluster seasons, but this Pistons defense ranks 28th in the league. While they were stifled last night versus a stout Raptors defense last night, this Bulls offense will get back on track here.

Detroit Pistons (+5.5)

Injuries continue to riddle the rebuilding Pistons. Isaiah Stewart (hip) has been ruled out once again, while Jalen Duren (ankle) also remains out. However, Detroit should be able to get both Jaden Ivey (personal) and Bojan Bogdanovic (achilles) back in the lineup tonight. While the value remains in the frontcourt in the form of James Wiseman and Marvin Bagley III, their usage rates take a big hit with the returns of their teammates. Moreover, Killian Hayes, Alec Burks, and Hamidou Diallo round out the rotation, all of whom make for intriguing tournament plays in their own right.

Phoenix Suns @ Charlotte Hornets (+9.5)

Phoenix Suns (-9.5)

Kevin Durant is set to make his Suns debut tonight and the NBA will be on watch. The new super team in the league is set to all take the court together for the first time, as Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton are all set to suit up. However, this greatly impacts each one of their production in fantasy basketball. Durant is set to lead the charge on offense, as he always has, but both Chris Paul and Devin Booker need the ball in their hands to make a significant contribution to lineups. Thus, this is a wait-and-see approach, despite the excellent matchup.

Charlotte Hornets (+9.5)

One of the most key injuries on this NBA slate is the Hornets’ LaMelo Ball. The face of the franchise has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after fracturing his ankle in Monday’s win over Detroit. However, this creates more opportunity for others. If you think this game stays close, then Terry Rozier is a core piece to lineups. On the season, Rozier has posted 1.04 fantasy points per minute through a 26.6% usage rate. However, with Ball off the court, Rozier has posted 1.11 fantasy points per minute through an increased 30.1% usage rate. Should you go elsewhere in the mid range of the pricing grid over Rozier, Dennis Smith Jr. makes for an excellent pivot while still getting exposure to this offense.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder (+1.5)

Los Angeles Lakers (-1.5)

At the top of the pricing grid, no one is as important on this NBA slate as Anthony Davis. The Lakers are on the second half of a back-to-back, but essentially need every win they can get in order to make a playoff push. In the absence of LeBron James, AD simply won’t leave the court. After posting 28/19 with five blocks last night, Davis gets a matchup versus an OKC frontcourt that ranks 23rd in the league versus true centers and sits 26th in rebounding percentage.

Oklahoma City Thunder (+1.5)

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander entering health and safety protocols, he is likely to miss tonight’s game versus the Lakers. Thus, as was mentioned in yesterday’s article, Josh Giddey makes for an excellent play on this NBA slate in the mid range of the pricing grid. While both he and Lu Dort plays a mere 40 minutes combined yesterday, this was because the two combined to be -60 in plus/minus differential. While the Thunder only lost to Sacramento by six points, it was the bench who carried them there. Do not expect a repeat performance here; get exposure to OKC in the form of Giddey, Joe, Dort, and Jalen Williams.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Orlando Magic @ Milwaukee Bucks (-8.5)
  • New Orleans Pelicans @ Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5)

On small NBA slates, lineup construction and contest selection are crucial. There have already been a few key injuries to alter the landscape of the field, and more are surely to come.

Detroit Pistons @ Charlotte Hornets (-6.5)

Detroit Pistons (+6.5)

While this game does not have the star power of others, it will be crucial to lineup construction on this NBA slate. The Pistons hold two of the most important injuries to monitor: Bojan Bogdanovic and Isaiah Stewart. The two have been labeled as questionable, and this rotation is riddled with value if one or both end up missing this game. In the absence of Bogdanovic, the trio of Jaden Ivey, Killian Hayes, and Hamidou Diallo will see more offensive looks. Moreover, if Stewart misses this game, the duo of Marvin Bagley and James Wiseman will be two of the best plays in the field versus a dreaded Charlotte frontcourt.

Charlotte Hornets (-6.5)

While most will presumably flock to the best star on this NBA slate in the next game, pairing him with LaMelo Ball is awfully intriguing. Detroit currently ranks 29th in the league versus primary ball handlers and Ball has been terrific lately. Over his last six games, Ball has posted 20 or more points in four appearances. Moreover, he has averaged 25.2/8.8/11.3 on 42.9% shooting during that span, while attempting over 11 three-pointers per night.

Boston Celtics @ New York Knicks (+4.5)

Boston Celtics (-4.5)

There is no way around playing Jayson Tatum tonight. He is awfully placed on the pricing grid in the absence of Jaylen Brown (personal), who is set to miss this game at MSG. On the season, Tatum leads the team with a 33% usage rate and 1.40 fantasy points per minute. However, with Brown off the court, Tatum carries an increased 35.5% usage rate and relatively similar production. The point/dollar upside is big versus a Knicks team that ranks 27th in the NBA to ball-handling wings.

New York Knicks (+4.5)

While the duo of Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson will lead this offense, the gem of this offense comes off the bench. Since the acquisition of Josh Hart from Portland, many figured that one of RJ Barrett or Immanuel Quickley would suffer in a lack of playing time. However, the latter has simply been terrific. Over his last seven games, Quickly has scored in double digits in every one of them. Moreover, he has averaged 14.7/42.6 on 52.8% shooting during that span, while logging over 27 minutes per contest.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Miami Heat @ Philadelphia 76ers (-6.5)
  • Orlando Magic @ New Orleans Pelicans (-4.5)

For those that enjoy narratives in fantasy sports, this is one of the best slates of the year. Yesterday, the final list for the NBA All-Star game was released and there are notable omissions. Luckily, some of those players are taking the court tonight. It’s a Fajita Friday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Sacramento Kings @ Indiana Pacers (+3.5)

Sacramento Kings (-3.5)

These two teams will be linked for quite some time, as two players dealt for one another are entering their respective primes. For the Kings, Domantas Sabonis earned a well-deserved All-Star nod last night. Leading the NBA in total rebounds and rebounds per game, he has been a force in his first full season with the organization. Tonight, he takes on his former team without De’Aaron Fox, who is out due to personal reasons. On the season, Sabonis carries a 20.9% usage rate and has posted 1.34 fantasy points per minute. With Fox off the court, Sabonis gets little to no increase, but a matchup versus an Indiana frontcourt that ranks 26th in the NBA versus true centers.

Indiana Pacers (+3.5)

The Pacers are on the second half of a back-to-back, meaning there could be additional names added to their final injury report. Last night, Tyrese Haliburton returned after missing a month of action, posting 26/2/12 against the Lakers. Should he be deemed fit to play tonight, he makes for an excellent tournament play. However, do not overlook Buddy Hield. In his last two games, Hield has seen a decrease in shot attempts and will handle the ball less with Haliburton back. However, Hield leads the NBA in three-pointers made this season and is in a matchup versus a Kings defense that ranks last in the league versus wings.

Charlotte Hornets @ Detroit Pistons (-1.5)

Charlotte Hornets (+1.5)

The secondary player at the top of the pricing grid alongside Domantas Sabonis is contingent on LaMelo Ball’s availability tonight. The Hornets have nothing to play for except a higher chance in the NBA Draft lottery, and Ball has dealt with his fair share of injuries this season. The team is on the second half of a back-to-back and Ball was ejected from last night’s game. Nonetheless, this is a terrific spot for one of the most entertaining players in the league. Over his last four games, Ball has averaged 20/9/8 on a mere 35.5% shooting. Moreover, a matchup versus a Pistons defense that ranks 29th in the league versus primary ball handlers sets the stage for Ball to flirt with a triple-double. Look for updates in Discord should he be ruled out.

Detroit Pistons (-1.5)

Until the Pistons make trades to contending teams, their rotation is not friendly for fantasy purposes. Bojan Bogdanovic continues to have an excellent season, with the backcourt carousel of Ivey, Hayes, and Burks limits upside. All four are in an excellent game environment versus a Hornets team that ranks 7th in the NBA in pace and 27th in defensive rating. They will be a steady source of production, but Jalen Duren is the primary target here. Taking over for Isaiah Stewart in the paint, Duren has seen 20 or more minutes in seven of his last eight appearances. Moreover, he has averaged 12.9/9.3/1 during that span, collecting over a steal and block, respectively, per game. The Hornets have been dreadful in the paint once again this season, ranking last in the NBA to opposing centers.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Portland Trail Blazers @ Washington Wizards (-4.5)
  • Toronto Raptors @ Houston Rockets (+5.5)

There are plenty of good matchups on a small NBA schedule tonight. Some teams are on the second half of a back-to-back, while others are crawling to the All-Star break hoping to get healthy. It’s a Thirsty Thursday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Detroit Pistons @ Brooklyn Nets (-8.5)

Detroit Pistons (+8.5)

Lately, Jalen Duren has been a force on both ends of the court. The rookie was shockingly dealt from the Knicks/Hornets on draft day in a three-team trade, but the Pistons have been reaping the benefits. Over his last five games, Duren has averaged 13.6/11.6/1 on 71.8% shooting. Moreover, he has collected three double-doubles in those five appearances, seeing 20 minutes or more in four of five. The Nets rank 6th in the NBA in points allowed in the paint per game, but their bench is overmatched versus Duren, who is likely to come out of the starting lineup with the return of Isaiah Stewart looming.

Brooklyn Nets (-8.5)

The Nets are on the second half of a back-to-back and facing an underwhelming opponent. Thus, there is a chance that key players sit this one out. Should Kyrie Irving be one to miss this game, the NBA slate will be turned upside down. Make sure to monitor this injury report throughout the day.

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Houston Rockets (+7.5)

Cleveland Cavaliers (-7.5)

Donovan Mitchell is set to miss multiple games with a groin injury, making the Cavaliers enticing on this NBA slate. Beginning with Darius Garland, the starting unit will thrive against a Rockets defense that ranks 28th in the defensive rating. On the season, Garland has a 27.4% usage rate, resulting in 1.10 fantasy points per minute. However, with Mitchell off the court, Garland sees an increase to 1.24 fantasy points per minute through a 29.8% usage rate. Caris LeVert will see more opportunity on the offense end, while both Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley see more action in the paint with Mitchell out.

Houston Rockets (+7.5)

The Rockets are on the second half of a back-to-back and may rest a few players. Eric Gordon has been the subject of many trade rumors and could get the night off, while Jabari Smith Jr. returned to the lineup after a two-game absence against the Wizards. Thus, the duo of Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun will continue leading the offense. However, there will also be more opportunity for the likes of KJ Martin and Tari Eason, should both Gordon and Smith Jr. miss this game. Another injury report to monitor, but a crucial one to this NBA slate.

  • Chicago Bulls @ Charlotte Hornets (+5.5)
  • Dallas Mavericks @ Phoenix Suns (+1.5)

Following the theme of the new year, there are numerous studs already ruled out for tonight’s NBA slate. However, there are marquee names nearing their returns, while others look to step up in their teammates’ absences. It’s a Taco Tuesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Moreover, join the conversation in the Win Daily Discord to get the insight you need from both subscribers and staff.

Detroit Pistons @ Philadelphia 76ers (-9.5)

Detroit Pistons (+9.5)

In the absence of Bojan Bogdanovic, the Pistons offense will be searching for answers. There will be plenty of shots to go around, with a few benefactors. Killian Hayes continues to lead the charge in a surprisingly deep backcourt. While Philadelphia leads the NBA in defensive rating versus primary ball handlers, Hayes figures to be in for a ton of work tonight. Over his last three games, Hayes has logged 35 minutes per night, averaging 17.7/3/8.7 on 51.2% shooting. Moreover, Hamidou Diallo, Saddiq Bey, and Alec Burks make for intriguing options with Bogdanovic out. If Joel Embiid remains out for Philadelphia, Isaiah Stewart has a tremendous matchup versus Montrezl Harrell.

Philadelphia 76ers (-9.5)

Exposure to the 76ers offense in contingent on the availability of Joel Embiid. Should the face of the franchise return to the lineup after missing the last three games, both he and James Harden will be able to roll this offense efficiently versus the Pistons. However, if Embiid sits out another game, James Harden figures to be one of the more popular options on the NBA slate. Detroit currently ranks 29th in the NBA versus primary ball handlers, struggling mightily since Cade Cunningham went down with a season-ending injury. Over his last eight games, Harden has scored 20 or more points in seven appearances. Moreover, he has averaged 23.1/6.1/11.9 on 41.6% shooting during that span. Harden is only in consideration should Embiid miss this game.

Phoenix Suns @ Golden State Warriors (-4.5)

Phoenix Suns (+4.5)

No team in the NBA has as depleted of a rotation as the Suns. Tonight, they will be without Devin Booker, Chris Pauk, Cam Johnson, and Cam Payne. Moreover, Deandre Ayton, Landry Shamet, and Torrey Craig are all listed as questionable to play. This is not a question about statistics, per minute fantasy output, usage rate, or anything else. Rather, the Suns that do find themselves suiting up will be popular solely because there will be so few of them. Both Damion Lee and Duane Washington Jr. will see a ton of minutes in the backcourt, with the latter being a must play in all formats.

Golden State Warriors (-4.5)

Depending on how the Suns injury report shakes out, the Warriors will approach the game accordingly. Steph Curry is nearing a return from a shoulder injury, while Andrew Wiggins returned to the lineup the other night after missing 15 games. Golden State needs to get their best players back into rhythm, while prioritizing their long term health. One player that has been routinely in NBA lineups for our team has been Anthony Lamb. In the absence of Jonathan Kuminga, Lamb has been tremendous off the Warriors bench. Over his last three games, Lamb has logged over 31 minutes per night. Moreover, he has scored 17 or more points in each appearance, averaging 20/5.7/3.3 on 53.7% shooting, including 40% from behind the arc on 3.3 three-pointers made per game.

Dallas Mavericks @ Los Angeles Clippers (-2.5)

Dallas Mavericks (+2.5)

It’s forever been a matchup to pick on: primary ball handlers versus the Clippers. This season is no different than in years past, with Los Angeles ranked 26th in the NBA against the player type. On the other side of the ball, there’s a pretty good ball handler in Luka Doncic that the Clippers have to deal with. Leading the league with a 38.5% usage rate, Doncic has averaged 34/8.8/8.7 on 49.9% shooting this season. It’s a challenge in its own to get Doncic into NBA lineups on all fantasy sites, but his upside is like no other player in the league.

Los Angeles Clippers (-2.5)

In the absence of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard will be a must play on this NBA slate. On the season, Leonard has averaged 17.3/5.9/3.8 on 46.4% shooting through a 25.9% usage rate. However, he has been limited in both playing time and games played. With his teammate off the floor this season, Kawhi sees bumps in both output and usage rate. The former increases from 1.14 fantasy points per minute to 1.25 fantasy points per minute, while the latter jumps from 25.9% to 29.2%, leading the team. Not only does he have a high ceiling in an elite game environment, but his safe floor makes him one of the best targets of the slate.

  • Charlotte Hornets @ Toronto Raptors (-7.5)
  • Cleveland Cavaliers @ Utah Jazz (-3.5)

As was pointed out yesterday, a multitude of players will miss games over the next two weeks. With the holiday period approaching, some teams will take advantage so give their players as much rest as they can. Thus, monitoring injury reports will be as important as ever to succeed in NBA action.

Utah Jazz @ Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

Utah Jazz (-3.5)

With the Jazz on the second half of a back-to-back, this injury report will be important to tonight’s NBA slate. Both Kelly Olynyk and Collin Sexton were ruled out yesterday, and there is a possibility they both miss this game as well. Moreover, Mike Conley is a candidate to receive the night off to rest. Thus, there is interest to be had in the young duo of Walker Kessler and Nickeil Alexander-Walker against a rebuilding Pistons team. This is an elite game environment given that it has the the highest total on the board and the Pistons rank 29th in defensive rating. Moreover, Detroit sits 19th against centers, while being 28th in points allowed in the paint. More to come in Discord once Utah releases their final injury report.

Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

As much intrigue as Walker Kessler carries in this matchup, there is equal, if not more upside with Jalen Duren. Since taking over the starting center spot over Marvin Bagley, Duren has been playing elite basketball on both ends of the court, most notably on the glass. Over his last six games, Duren has logged 24 or more minutes in each appearance. Moreover, he has averaged 9.2/13.7/1.2 on 66.7% shooting during that span, including double-digit rebounds in every game. While he doesn’t take many shots, he is wildly efficient around the rim. Utah ranks 29th in the NBA against true centers and is last in the league in points allowed in the paint.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Denver Nuggets (+1.5)

Memphis Grizzlies (-1.5)

This is the game with all the star power on tonight’s NBA slate. Beginning with Memphis’ point guard, Ja Morant, there is a ton of upside in this matchup. Despite being tossed after a questionable technical foul in his last game, Morant has been elite offensively lately. Excluding last game since he got ejected, Morant has posted 20 or more points in eight of his last nine games before that. Moreover, during that span, Morant averaged 26.1/7.6/9.2 on 44.3% shooting. Denver ranks 29th in the NBA against primary ball handlers, setting the scene for Morant to come back from his ejection with a vengeance.

Denver Nuggets (+1.5)

The only player that will contend with Nikola Jokic to lead the NBA slate in scoring is discussed above. However, with Vegas having this one as a tight contest with a high total, pairing them together is ideal. Jokic is fresh off a ridiculous 40/27/10 triple-double against Charlotte. However, while that stat line will be impossible to replicate, his offensive game has been trending in the right direction as of late. In his last seven appearances, Jokic has scored 30 or more points in five games, with 25 or more in six of seven. During that span, Jokic has averaged 31.9/14/9.4 on 60.1% shooting. He is third in the NBA in total assists and assists per game, giving him yet another opportunity to get a triple-double tonight.

We’re a fourth into the NBA season and things are shaping up to be rather interesting heading into the holidays. Many teams are experiencing injuries, while others are picking up steam on both sides of the ball. Tonight, many elite game environments make this slate an intriguing one.

Sacramento Kings @ Detroit Pistons (+4.5)

Sacramento Kings (-4.5)

This is a prime spot for the Kings’ duo of stars. Both Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox find themselves in elite matchups at their respective positions. For one, the Pistons rank 29th in the NBA in points allowed in the paint and 25th in defensive rebounding. Over his last five games, Sabonis has scored 20 or more points in four appearances. Moreover, he has averaged 20.8/14.4/5.8 on 69.6% shooting and has racked up 4.2 offensive rebounds during the same span. De’Aaron Fox has been volatile as of late, only scoring 20 points once in his last seven appearances. However, his point/dollar upside in an elite game environment makes him an intriguing play for tournaments.

Detroit Pistons (+4.5)

The Pistons offense has many opportunities given the absence of Cade Cunningham. In 18 games since Cunningham last played, Bojan Bogdanovic has been carrying this offense. During that span, he leads the team with a 27.3% usage rate and has averaged 22.4/4.1/2.9 on 51.4% shooting, including 41.1% from deep. Sacramento ranks 23rd in the NBA in three-point shooting percentage allowed on over 11 makes per game. Moreover, there is value to be had with both Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren, despite the tough matchup for the latter against Sabonis.

Golden State Warriors @ Philadelphia 76ers (-7.5)

Golden State Warriors (+7.5)

Welcome to the most popular rotation in NBA DFS over the next month. Unfortunately, Steph Curry will be sidelined for the next month or so after leaving last game with a shoulder injury. Thus, Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson will carry this offense. On the season, Poole and Thompson have usage rates of 28.2% and 25.6%, respectively, while posting 1.03 and 0.98 fantasy points per minute. However, with Curry off the floor, Poole takes a significant leap. In over 400 minutes played without Curry on the floor, Poole sees an increase to 1.14 fantasy points per minute through a 35.3% usage rate. However, Thompson sees dips in both. If you think Golden State keeps this one close, Poole is your guy, albeit being one of, if not the most popular player on the NBA slate.

Philadelphia 76ers (-7.5)

This is a tricky spot for the 76ers. On one hand, this game can get out of hand quickly. However, blowouts simply cannot be predicted. Thus, there is a strong chance that Joel Embiid or James Harden lead the NBA slate in scoring. Golden State currently leads the league in pace while ranking 19th in defensive rating. Moreover, they have struggled to guard primary ball handlers, ranking 24th in the NBA. Over his last three games, Harden has averaged a whopping 22.7/6.7/14.3 on 50% shooting, including 43.5% from behind the arc. This only thing stopping Harden from dominating tonight is Joel Embiid and his love for getting to the free throw line.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Oklahoma City Thunder (-1.5)

Minnesota Timberwolves (+1.5)

This game is riddled with questionable tags for both injury reports. However, there is plenty of intrigue. Should he make his return after missing last game, D’Angelo Russell makes for an excellent tournament play. Over his last 10 games, Russell has averaged 21.4/2.8/6.6 on 52.3% shooting, including 40.5% from deep. Moreover, there could be value in the frontcourt, should Rudy Gobert be unavailable. Should this be the case, Naz Reid will instantly become one of the best values on the NBA slate and one of the most popular options in the field.

Oklahoma City Thunder (-1.5)

Similarly to above, should Rudy Gobert miss this game, value is here with Darius Bazley. With Jeremiah Robinson-Earl out for a few weeks, Bazley filled in at center, logging 31 minutes against Miami and posting a 12/5/2/1/1 scoring line in a tough matchup. Moreover, if Gobert plays, this game instantly becomes more competitive. Thus, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is in a tremendous spot. With 23 or more points in 14 of his last 15 games, SGA has been on an absolute tear. During that span, he has averaged 31.4/4.8/6.1 on 48% shooting. Minnesota ranks 29th in the NBA against primary ball handlers, setting the stage for SGA to potentially lead the slate in scoring.

  • Brooklyn Nets @ Toronto Raptors (+1.5)
  • Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Lakers (+1.5)

There are only six NBA teams in action tonight but there is no shortage of intriguing headlines. The King makes his return to Cleveland, while both Miami and Dallas are on the second half of a back-to-back. It’s a Taco Tuesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

Only three games are on the schedule tonight. Therefore, a single injury or lineup change can alter the slate and popularity of players. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. Detroit Pistons @ Miami Heat (OTB)

Detroit Pistons (OTB)

Barring any added injuries throughout the day, there is little intrigue in the Pistons offense tonight. Jaden Ivey has the highest upside of the bunch, but I prefer another guard in the last game of the NBA slate at a similar price point. Elsewhere, Bojan Bogdanovic can certainly shoot well from deep in this one with the Heat ranked 27th in the league in three-pointers allowed per game. Additionally, the duo of Marvin Bagley and Isaiah Stewart see a bump in the frontcourt should Bam Adebayo be ruled out, but only in that specific scenario.

Miami Heat (OTB)

We are going to need some value to roster some of the studs discussed below and this is the game to get it. Now, at the time of writing, I am fully anticipating Jimmy Butler sitting out on the second half of a back-to-back. With Detroit being without Cade Cunningham for the foreseeable future, the Pistons are set to be contending for the top of the lottery. Thus, there is no reason for Miami to push Butler, who is dealing with a knee injury. Moreover, Tyler Herro is dealing with an ankle injury, and Max Strus is nursing a shoulder issue. There is no confirmation on who the Heat will sit out, but I’m banking on the fact that is is a lengthly injury report to provide immense value on this NBA slate.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Cleveland Cavaliers (-4.5)

Los Angeles Lakers (+4.5)

Look out for the rejuvenated Lakers! Is this team still a championship contender? One can argue no, but you can certainly argue in favor of LeBron James and Anthony Davis being one of, if not the strongest duo in the NBA right now. Over his last nine games, Davis has been on an absolute tear. The All-NBA talent has posted double-doubles in every one of those appearances with 25 points or more in every one. Moreover, he has averaged 35.3/15.6/2.7/1.2/2.9 on 64.8% shooting during that span. Additionally, Davis currently leads the league in rebounds per game and is second in blocks. A tough matchup looms against Evan Mobley and a potential return for Jarrett Allen to the lineup, but Davis has entered the conversation for being unfadeable right now.

Cleveland Cavaliers (-4.5)

If you’re looking for a potentially overlooked player that can contend with the slate’s best, it’s Donovan Mitchell. The back and forth between he and Darius Garland on offense can cause headaches on offense, but one of the two is set to dominate here. Mitchell currently leads the team in usage rate at 31.3% with Garland right behind him at 28.3%. Moreover, the same trend lies true in the Cavs’ last five and ten games. Mitchell has a higher upside due to his shotmaking and minutes splits. With the Lakers ranked 28th in the NBA against primary ball handlers, both Mitchell and Garland are firmly in play, but I prefer the former.

Dallas Mavericks @ Denver Nuggets (-4.5)

Dallas Mavericks (+4.5)

There should be no doubt that Luka Doncic can lead any NBA slate in scoring. Not only that, but he is one of few players in the league who can produce at a level that alters fantasy sports in indescribable ways. However, as good as he is, playing Doncic on DraftKings tonight forces you into an ugly lineups structure. On FanDuel, it is much more doable. Thus, I’ll have exposure to him on the latter rather than the former. It’s a bold stance to take, but you have to plant your flag on small slates. No exposure to this offense on DraftKings, with Doncic firmly in play on FanDuel.

Denver Nuggets (-4.5)

Similarly to Luka Doncic, there is another international star that can shift an NBA slate like only a few in the league could. Nikola Jokic certainly has a sizeable advantage over Dwight Powell and Christian Wood on the inside, but the Mavericks actually rank first in the league against true centers. They collapse the paint well, but this leaves the perimeter open. Thus, Jamal Murray is a great way to get exposure to Denver if you’re not playing Jokic. Over his last five games, Murray has averaged 23.2/3.8/5.6 on 50% shooting. Moreover, he has the second highest usage rate on the team at 29.1% over that span.

Only six teams are in action tonight. However, there are plenty of NBA stars facing off against one another, while a few others have already been ruled out. It’s a Taco Tuesday edition of the Gems – let’s ride.

With only three games on tonight’s schedule, a single injury can alter the look of lineups. Thus, be sure to use our proprietary NBA projections and cheat sheet to build your lineups as the news rolls in. New York Knicks @ Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

New York Knicks (-3.5)

Despite what the Pistons final injury report looks like, the Knicks have an intriguing player in the midrange of the pricing grid. With 27 or more points in four straight games, including 30 or more in his last three, Jalen Brunson is carrying this offense. Through his last four appearances, Brunson has posted a 30.8/3.3/6.3 scoring line on 51.8% shooting through a team-leading 31.3% usage rate. The Pistons currently rank 27th in the NBA against primary ball handlers and have the league’s 29th ranked defense.

Detroit Pistons (+3.5)

There won’t be a confirmation on how to get exposure to the Pistons until their final injury report is released. With four of five starters currently listed as questionable, including all of whom missed their last game, the Pistons can either be a popular source of value or targets in the midrange. The Knicks currently rank 11th in the NBA in pace and 27th in defensive rating. Thus, this will be a game environment that is far from one to avoid.

Golden State Warriors @ Dallas Mavericks (+1.5)

Golden State Warriors (-1.5)

Obviously, Steph Curry is the primary target on this Warriors offense. Not only is Curry posting better numbers than his unanimous MVP season, but he is leading the team in usage rate and scoring, while being second in rebounds and assists. If you are not getting exposure to the Warriors with Curry, you need to be doing so elsewhere. On their current five-game winning streak, the Warriors support cast have been elite. Both Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins have averaged over 20 points per game on over 50% shooting. Moreover, Draymond Green has averaged 11.3/5/9 while logging 31 or more minutes in every game. The Mavericks are last in the NBA in pace, but the Warriors offense is in another great spot.

Dallas Mavericks (+1.5)

Outside of Luka Doncic, there is little to be excited about when it comes to the Mavericks’ fantasy outlook. Despite being on a four-game losing streak, Doncic has continued to dazzle. The NBA MVP candidate has posted a 28.8/7.3/9.5 scoring line on 53.2% shooting during that span. However, he has little support. Spencer Dinwiddie has a safe floor in this game environment, but other guards take priority of him; he is not a bad play by any means, but lacks upside. Christian Wood is another target given the lack of depth at the center position on this NBA slate. However, with the Warriors playing Green more at the ‘5’, Wood will have a tough time in the paint on both ends of the court. Nonetheless, the Mavericks will shift Dwight Powell to the bench quickly in favor of Christian Wood if they want to stay in this game, making the latter an intriguing target despite the tough matchup.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5)

Los Angeles Clippers (+2.5)

With the trio of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and John Wall all ruled out for tonight, there is plenty of value on this Clippers offense. Ivica Zubac is fresh off a ridiculous 31/29/3 game and gets a phenomenal matchup against Jusuf Nurkic, making him the popular option at the thin center position. He is in a good spot, but be wary of chasing another big game. Elsewhere, with both Wall and Kennard missing in the backcourt, the trio of Reggie Jackson, Terence Mann, and Norman Powell will get many looks on offense. While all three are volatile given their dependence on their scoring output, Mann has the safer floor of the trio due to his upside on the glass and with his ball handling.

Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5)

Damian Lillard is slated to miss another game with his injury. Thus, Portland should be one of the first rotations you go to on this NBA slate. With Justice Winslow replacing Shaedon Sharpe in the starting lineup, the bench is getting little to no minutes. Joining Winslow are Simons, Hart, Nurkic, and Grant. Of the four, Jerami Grant is the most intriguing. Yes, Anfernee Simons has the higher upside as the primary shooter, but Grant gets a friendly matchup versus a defense that ranks 28th in the NBA versus wings. Over his last five games, Grant has scored in double digits in every one, posting a 25.2/2.8/2.6 scoring line on 45.8% shooting. There should be interest in Nurkic, Simons, and Winslow as well in an overlooked game on a small slate.
