Chicago Blackhawks

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   We have a nice-sized 8-game slate of NHL DFS tonight. This slate brings us some extreme mismatches, which means we have some really big opportunities for points tonight.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Adin Hill vs. Dallas Stars – Yes, we’re going to pick on the Dallas Stars with goaltending until they fight their way out of the slump. Their offense is all but non-existent right now. Over the last 2 weeks, the Stars have mustered just 8 goals in their last 5 games. That’s just awful. Adin Hill has played reasonably well and should be back tonight after missing a couple of games with an undisclosed injury. With him being less than $8k on DK tonight, I like his chances of returning value for us.

Linus Ullmark vs. Vancouver Canucks – This is one of the bigger mismatches we’ll see all season. We have a Boston Bruins team that may set records for wins and points this season vs. a Canucks team that is already on head coach number 2 for the year. Ullmark has been exceptional this season and is one of the leading candidates for the Vezina trophy. He has somewhat of a limited ceiling tonight but should easily get the W. He’s a great goalie for Cash games tonight.

NHL DFS Stacks

Carolina 1 (Aho, Jarvis, Svechnikov) + Burns vs. Anaheim

I suspect that even on a large slate tonight, Carolina is going to be extremely popular and the overwhelming chalk. Anaheim has just been horrendous defensively and giving up goals in troves. Over the last 2 weeks, the Ducks are giving up over 5.4 goals per game, more than 19 high-danger chances per game, and over 46 shots on goal per game. There’s really no other way to say it, they are historically bad.

This top line for Carolina has been one of the better lines in hockey over the last 10 games. Only a handful of lines have scored more goals than them. My priority here is going to be Svechnikov and Jarvis. Jarvis has 5 goals over his last 5 games and is just $4.5k on DK tonight. He’s the cheapest of the bunch. Between the 2 of these guys, we’re glook

New Jersey 1 (Mercer, Hischier, Tatar) + Hamilton vs. Philly

Nothing brings me more joy than picking on a Philadelphia team. Tonight, we’ll be picking on the Flyers. What started out solidly for the Flyers this year has essentially been a disastrous year. Over the last 2 weeks, the Flyers are just 1-5-1 and are giving up more than 4 goals per game. Their goaltending has been horrendous as they have just an 84.38 save percentage. Against a more than competent Devils team, that’s not going to cut it.

We’re going to lock in Dawson Mercer here. Mercer is playing some of the best hockey of his young career right now. He has a 5-game goal-scoring streak. Over those 5 games, he has 7 goals to lead this Devils’ offense. I’ll prioritize getting Nico Hischier with him tonight. Hischier has also been playing extremely well of late, with 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games. Can Mercer extend his streak tonight? I’m banking on it in a plus matchup.

Chicago 1 (Kane, Domi, Kurashev) + Jones vs. San Jose

This line almost got me a takedown tonight and I’ll continue to play them until they slow down. With a matchup against the Sharks tonight, they should continue with their solid play. Obviously, with all the trade rumors swirling around we’ll need to keep a close eye on the Blackhawks lineup as Kane very well could be scratched at any moment.

I said it the other day and I’ll say it again tonight, Patrick Kane is playing like the Patrick Kane of old. Over his last 5 games, Kane has 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points. He’s bringing his A game in what is most likely his last few games in a Blackhawks sweater. His linemate Max Domi has been laying just as well. Domi has 3 goals and 8 assists in his last 5. These 2 have been exceptional and that should continue tonight vs. the Sharks.

Other Stacks: Ott 1 and 2, Mtl 1, NJ 2, Bos 1 and 2, TB 1, Det 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Simon Benoit – $2.8k on DK
  • Josh Manson – $3.2k on Dk
  • Bowen Byram – $4.1k on DK
  • Caleb Jones – $3k on DK

Summary

We have a fun day of NHL DFS in store. This slate has some extreme mismatches and we should see a healthy amount of goals tonight.

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   On this final day before the NBA makes its return, the NHL has blessed us with just 3 games on its calendar. Not ideal for NHL DFS, but it is what it is and we do have some solid games to work with.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Jaxson Stauber ($6.9K DK/$7k FD) vs. Dallas Stars – Risk it or biscuit right? That’s my mentality on a short slate and tonight is no different. Coming into this game, the Stars’ offense has been nonexistent. Over their last 5 games, the Stars have scored just 9 goals for an average of less than 2 per game. That’s just not good. Stauber has so far looked competent in the NHL. He’s 4-1 with a 2.76 GAA. He’s risky, but for his price, I really like him tonight.

Karel Vejmelka ($7.2k DK/$7.2k FD) vs. Calgary Flames– Sticking with the risky theme, I’ll look to Vejmelka also tonight. I suspect that the Flames will be popular tonight and I’ll want to go against the grain. Arizona gives up a ton of shots, so even if Vejmelka gives up a couple of goals, he’ll still end up making value. He struggled against the Kings the other night, but look for him to rebound tonight.

NHL DFS Stacks

Chicago 1 (Kane, Domi, Kurashev) + McCabe vs. Dallas

As we inch closer to the trade deadline, we’ll obviously want to monitor Patrick Kane’s status. He’s at risk of being traded at any moment and could be scratched tonight for that reason. That said, if Kane plays tonight he’ll be in my lineup. He’s more than likely down to his last few games as a Blackhawk and he’s trying his hardest to up his value.

Over his last 3 games, Kane has been the Kane of old. He’s registered 15 shots, 5 goals, and 2 assists. He just missed goal number 6 last night by about a tenth of a second. This line has really gelled of late and I’ll look to pair Kane with Max Domi. Over his last 5 games, Domi has 7 assists and a goal for 8 points. He’s averaging close to 2 points per game over that stretch and is just $4.3k on DK tonight. He should easily make value if he continues to play like he’s playing.

Dallas 1 (Hintz, Robertson, Pavelski) + Heiskanen vs. Chicago

I know I recommended Stauber tonight, but if you are fading him you should consider the top line for Dallas. Have the Stars been struggling to score goals? Yes, they have. Has this top line also been struggling? Yes, they have. This line has too much talent to continue their struggles and the Chicago Blackhawks just aren’t a good team. They’ve given up 3.38 goals per game over the last 2 weeks and close to 15 high-danger chances per game. This is a great bounce back spot for the Stars’ offense.

My priority here will be Hintz and Robertson. Pavelski is also in play, but he lacks the goal upside that Robertson and Hintz have. That said, a full stack here is definitely in play.

Arizona 1 (Hayton, Keller, Schmaltz) + Nemeth vs. Calgary

This is more of a testament to how the Coyotes have been playing than it is about the Flames. Only the Islanders have scored more goals per game over the last 2 weeks than the Coyotes, of the teams playing tonight of course. I have little interest in the Islanders tonight as Hellebuyck is a tough goalie to crack. So that leaves us with the Coyotes

This top line has been playing very well together. They’ve scored a combined 8 goals over their last 5 games and have a combined 17 points. My priority with this stack will be Keller and Schmaltz. They’ve combined for 7 of the 8 goals scored. I suspect this line may be more popular than they normally would be, but it’s a small slate and we have limited options tonight. They’ll be in my lineup.

Other Stacks: Wpg 1 and 2, Dal 3, Calgary 1, 2, or 3

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Dylan DeMelo – $3.2k on DK
  • Jani Hakanpaa– $3k on Dk

Summary

We have just a 3-game slate tonight and have limited options. Tonight’s a night to get “weird” as they like to say. A complete game stack of that Dal/Chi game is 100% in play.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   We have a nice sized 4-game slate tonight.  Even though it’s a pretty small slate, we still have several sports that we can go for offense.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Igor Shesterkin ($7.8K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. Ottawa Senators – Igor Shesterkin is coming off arguably his 2 worst efforts of the season.  He gave up 4 goals to Edmonton and another 4 to the powerhouse of a team we call the New Jersey Devils.  Tonight’s matchup against the Senators should be a solid bounce-back spot for him.

The Senators are coming into this one having scored just 15 goals over their last 6 games.  2.5 goals per game isn’t going to cut it and when playing against a normally solid goalie in Shesterkin, they should score even less than that tonight.  Shesterkin was very vocal about his performance against the Devils and should be extra motivated to have a solid game tonight.  His price is down below $8k on DK tonight and that has me on him even more tonight.

Ilya Samsonov ($6.5k DK/$6.5k FD) vs. San Jose Sharks – Ilya Samsonov is expected to make his return tonight after a more than 3-week absence due to injury.  Prior to going on the shelf, Samsonov was playing extremely well.  He had just a 2.23 GAA and a .921 save percentage.

Although the Sharks are a solid offense, they did play last night and should have some tired legs.  The Maples Leafs’ defense has been much better of late with just 11 high-danger chances against over the last 2 weeks.  At the price point of Samsonov tonight, I will be rocking him in GPP’s.  He’s risky but has huge upside at the current price.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi) + Nurse vs. Chicago

One of the top lines in the game of hockey vs. one of the worst teams in all of hockey?  Sign.  Me.  Up.  Chicago has been a disaster this season and over the last 2 weeks, they have gone 0-5-1 while giving up more than 5 goals per game.  They are someone we should always take full advantage of.  Tonight we’ll be doing that with Edmonton’s top line.

It’s going to be extremely tough to fit both McDavid and Draisaitl together, but I’m going to try my hardest to do so.  The two of them have combined for 12 points over their last 5 games.  Draisaitl has been the goal scorer while McDavid has been the assist machine.  My lean right now is to go with McDavid because he’s just so good.  This is a multiple-goal type of matchup for him.  To save some loot, I’m going to pair both or one of them with Puljujarvi.  Pulj as I like to call him is the type of player that has never lived up to their full potential and may never do so.  That said, he has some upside at his $3.6k price on DK tonight.  Lock and load this line tonight.

Detroit 1 (Larkin, Kubalik, Raymond) + Seider vs. Buffalo

While not as talented as the duo of McDavid and Draisaitl, the tandem of Dylan Larkin and Dominik Kubalik are trying their hardest to get into the convo.  The two of them have been playing some splendid hockey and I’ll be using them tonight in a great matchup.  The Sabres, while scoring a bunch of goals, are giving up a bunch of goals recently.  Over their last 6 games, teams have scored 3.67 goals per game against them.  Most importantly, they’re also giving up more than 14 high-danger scoring chances per game.  That’s absolutely something we’ll want to attack.

If we look at what Larkin and Kubalik have done of late, they’ve combined for 46 scoring changes over their last 5 games.  This is a great spot for them and if we want to add a cheap player to this stack, Lucas Raymond is absolutely in play.  At $3.9k on DK, we’re getting a player that has multiple games over his last 4 with multi-point games.  He’s as solid of a value as there is.

Chicago 2 (Domi, Kurashev, Raddysh) + Murphy vs. Edmonton

Do I think there are betting lines to play than this second unit for Chicago?  Absolutely.  However, I’ve given 2 pricy lines so I need to provide a line so that we can afford guys like McDavid, Larkin, Draisaitl, and Kubalik.  This second line for Chicago will do.  Edmonton isn’t some shutdown defensive type of team that can’t be had.  They’re still giving up more than 3 goals per game. While this line is super risky and could net us close to nothing, they also come in at just $11.1 combined.  Both Kurashev and Raddysh are my favorites here as they’ll play on the top power-play unit with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.  They definitely are risky but have some upside at limited cost.

Other Stacks: Rangers 1 and 2, Toronto 1 and 2, Edmonton 2, Buffalo 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Ryan Lindgren – $2.8k on DK
  • Filip Hronek – $4.7k on Dk
  • Matt Benning – $2.6k on DK
  • Evan Bouchard – $3.6k on DK

Summary

We have some clear spots for offense tonight with Edmonton and Detroit.  I’ll be extremely heavy with both teams. You should be too.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

NHL Betting Picks Thursday 5/6

Welcome to Keith’s NHL Betting Picks Thursday 5/6. The Model bounced back going 2-0 last night. The Golden Knights needed OT to finish the Wild with a nice Pietrangelo finisher. The Jets absolutely dominated the Flames winning 4-0, a nice momentum building win leading to playoffs. With the Habs losing to the Sens it is also setting up a Leafs-Habs first round matchup, which is what everyone wants. Also, that Rangers/Caps game was electric. 3 fights off the opening faceoff, 6 fights in the first period, Wilson with an ‘upper-body’ injury in the 2nd, Buchnevich cross-checking Mantha in the face. I mean look at the Caps box after the 6th fight.

Image

This game had quite the playoff/revenge vibe and I loved every second of it. Playoffs are right around the corner let’s finish off this regular season strong.

We have 6 games on the NHL slate tonight. Let’s take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentages for the teams playing today.

Dashboard 1

To interact with the dashboard click here.

Dashboard Edges

  • Penguins Money Line (-345) and Puck Line (-1.5, -148) over the Sabres
  • Hurricanes Money Line (-295) over the Blackhawks
  • Bruins Money Line (-225) over the Rangers
  • Rangers Puck Line (+1.5, -139) over the Bruins
  • Rangers/Bruins Under (5.5, -113)
  • Islanders Money Line (-250) over the Devils
  • Maple Leafs Money Line (-220) over the Canadiens
  • Oilers Puck Line (-1.5, -118) and Money Line (-286) over the Canucks

Keep an eye out for Starting Goalies tonight. Every single money line is -220 or greater for the favorites tonight. We are getting into that time of year with big discrepancies as teams who are eliminated are testing rookies and different lineups for next year, and resting players with nagging injuries. We look to the over/unders and puck lines to get some value tonight.

My Picks

Bruins -1.5 (+125): Finally a pick I absolutely love, which means it will definitely lose (kidding). The Rangers, who are eliminated from the playoffs already, had their Super Bowl last night and are probably emotionally exhausted. The Bruins want to keep winning to move up in the standings and maybe get home ice. When looking at the PL numbers the Rangers are good over the whole course of the season and the B’s are slightly above average. However over the last month it is reversed with the Rangers only +1.9u on the PL and the Bruins are +9u. I like getting this at plus money and we are riding heavy tonight.

Blackhawks +1.5 (+108): Chicago is trending downwards losing 2 straight matchups to Carolina by more than a goal. However throughout the course of the season they have done pretty well covering against Carolina. With Chicago rotating goalies lately it is a bit of a risk to take this without that being confirmed, but we should get Lankinen in net tonight. The Canes are 43% covering -1.5 and the Blackhawks are 58% covering +1.5, which would suggest a better than 50% chance the Blackhawks cover. With that probability and getting the +1.5 at plus money, we have to ride with this tonight.

NHL Betting Picks Tuesday 4/27

Welcome to Keith’s NHL Betting Picks Tuesday 4/27. The Model got absolutely obliterated last night. 0-4. An overtime loss, a one goal loss, and an over that miss by a half goal. The only bad L was the Ducks and that was only a half unit play for the value. It happens but it still stings. That is what happened when I take a weekend off, pretty sure it happened last month. It’s also that weird time of year when you can’t really tell what certain teams are playing for and those games have some risk (Sens last night). We move on to Tuesday, as always Trust the Process.

We have 8 games on the NHL slate tonight. Let’s take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentages for the teams playing today.

Dashboard 1

To interact with the dashboard click here.

Dashboard Edges

  • Flyers Money Line (-132) over the Devils
  • Flyers/Devils Over (6, -113)
  • Red Wings Money Line (+123) and Puck Line (+1.5, -220) over the Blue Jackets
  • Penguins Money Line (+100) over the Bruins
  • Rangers Puck Line (-1.5, -120) and Money Line (-295) over the Sabres
  • Hurricanes Money Line (-125) over the Stars
  • Stars/Hurricanes Under (5.5, -117)

Keep an eye out for Starting Goalies tonight. We are waiting for confirmation on goalies before we lock in the Preds/Panthers over. We are only taking it if we get a Bobrovsky/Rinne goaltending matchup.

My Picks

Islanders ML (+108): This one is pretty simple. These teams are relatively evenly matched at full-strength, but the Caps are without Ovi tonight. Yet for some reason the Isles are still plus money. The Isles have sputtered a little bit as of late, but Trotz always seems to coach against his former team well. They have lost 2 straight against them and I doubt they lose a 3rd. I think the Isles get it done tonight and with the plus money, we are getting some great value here.

Blackhawks/Lightning Over 5.5 (-130): The Lightning score a lot of goals and the Blackhawks are pretty good at giving them up. Getting this at the 5.5 makes me like this a lot, even if it is a little juicy. The Lightning are 50% on their overs and the Blackhawks are 48%. But at home the Lightning are 60% and the Blackhawks are 52%, so both even better in the current environment of tonight’s matchup. Also the Lightning average 6.13 goals/game on the road and the Blackhawks average 6.22 goals/game at home, so we love this play tonight.

Hurricanes ML (-125): Running it back with the Canes tonight. Same logic as yesterday, but we have the better goaltender tonight (Ned). Carolina coming off of a loss, and they are the better team even though they are a little banged up so is Dallas. The Stars do not have a significant home ice advantage and the Canes are rather good on the road. Feeling good about a comeback tonight.

NHL Betting Picks Tuesday 3/23

Welcome to Keith’s NHL Betting Picks Tuesday 3/23. The Model returned with an 0-2 night thanks to Minnesota just squeaking out a 2-1 win and not covering the puck line, and the Flames with a surprise loss to Ottawa 2-1. That’s a game Calgary needs to win and half the reason they made the coaching change was to ensure that. Will be interesting to see if they punt on the season and sell at the trade deadline. Our premium pick (Edmonton ML) had their game cancelled so we weren’t even afforded the opportunity to rebound. Whatever, we bounce back today.

We have 5 games on the NHL slate tonight. Let’s take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentages for the teams playing today.

To interact with the dashboard click here.

Dashboard Edges

  • Lightning Money Line (-155) and Puck Line (-1.5, -180) over the Stars
  • Panthers Money Line (-148) over the Blackhawks
  • Avalanche Money Line (-225) over the Coyotes
  • Predators/Red Wings Under Goals (5.5, +100)

Keep an eye out for Starting Goalies tonight.

My Picks

Free Picks

Devils ML (+140): I don’t love taking my team however the numbers are forcing our hand tonight. Carter Hart has been quite frankly terrible this season with a league low -21.28 (!!) Goals Saved Above Expected per Evolving-Hockey. The Devils are also very solid on the road +5.8u on the money line while the Flyers are -2.5u at home. Love the opportunity to win financially and emotionally too. Let’s ride.

Panthers/Blackhawks Under 6.5 (-110): This 6.5 number seems quite high for 2 teams that are both hitting their overs around 50%. Both of these teams average 6.03 goals/game and both have their strongest goaltending options in net (Driedger and Lankinen). The over is 3-1 when these teams have squared off this season and the only time it didn’t hit was when they scored 6 total goals. Look for a regression tonight and an under hit.

NHL Betting Picks Sunday 2/28

Welcome to Keith’s NHL Betting Picks Sunday 2/28. A 1-2 day yesterday as Matt Murray let us down by giving up some goals you and me could’ve saved in the Senators/Flames tilt. A good win with the Flyers money line, and then a questionable goal was scored with 10 minutes left in the Golden Knights/Ducks game that pushed it to OT with Vegas ultimately winning. You be the judge if this look like a high stick:

Looks like a high stick to me, but I digress.

Today we have 6 games let’s take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentage for the teams playing today:

To interact with the dashboard click this link.

Dashboard Edges

  • Flyers Money Line (-175) and Puck Line (-1.5, +148) against the Sabres
  • Blackhawks Money Line (-195) against the Red Wings
  • Islanders Puck Line (-1.5, +220) against the Penguins

Keep an eye out for the Starting Goalies. Not too much to love on the board but there is one play I do like.

My Pick

Blackhawks/Red Wings Over 5.5 Goals: Coming off a 5-3 game yesterday (8 total goals), it’s easy to think that this game will regress to the mean and go under. However, the Red Wings are starting one of the worst goalies in the league this season in Thomas Griess. The Blackhawks are starting rookie Kevin Lankinen who started the season great before having a couple of shaky performances lately. The Blackhawks will come out strong knowing they can’t lose back-to-back games against the Red Wings and I think the over hits again today.

NHL Betting Picks Thursday 2/25

Welcome to Keith’s NHL Betting Picks Thursday 2/25. We had an easy 1-0 night with the Tampa Bay Lightning easily defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0. Once that goaltending matchup was announced I knew we instantly had an edge on the books so I hope you tailed! We have 10 games on the slate today.

Let’s take a look at the profitability and over win percentage of the teams playing tonight:

Dashboard Betting Edges

  • Oilers ML (-132) over the Canucks
  • Blackhawks +1.5 (-250) over the Blue Jackets
  • Capitals/Penguins Over 6.5 (-107)

Let’s keep an eye out for the Starting Goalies today.

There are couple lines I like today but won’t officially play:

The Devils ML (-109) against the Sabres. They lost their last two games to Buffalo but are the better team and have the goaltending edge. They should eventually be able to be at Buffalo but they’ve burned me the last two games so I can’t play them here.

Flames -1.5 (+155) against the Senators. Give the Sens some credit they have won a few games no one expected them to and DJ Smith has them playing some decent hockey. Having said that they are simply not a good hockey team as currently constructed. I thought the Flames played well in their 2 game series against Toronto, with solid goaltending from David Rittich. I like the Flames to handle the Sens by a decent margin tonight.

My Picks:

Blue Jackets ML -122: Columbus is coming off of a tough loss to Chicago on Tuesday in a high scoring affair. They return to play them again tonight. Columbus has a strong goaltending edge as Subban is confirmed for Chicago and Korpisalo for Columbus, which is driving the value in Columbus’s favor. Laine and Roslovic have fit in seamlessly since being traded from Winnipeg and Columbus should take care of business tonight.

Jets ML +110: The Canadiens are coming off a bad loss to the Senators on Tuesday which led to the dismissal of their head coach Claude Julien. Winnipeg won both of their games in their mini 2 game series against Vancouver, with the last one coming on Sunday. Hellebuyck should be in goal for Winnipeg which will give them the goaltending edge.

NHL Betting Picks Wednesday 2/24

Welcome to Keith’s NHL Betting Picks Wednesday 2/24. A decent 1-1 day with our dog the Chicago Blackhawks (+115) winning a wild 6-5 game in a shootout and allowing us to be profitable on the day. Unfortunately the Devils (-127) laid an absolute egg against the Sabres.

Let’s take a look at the updated profitability and over win percentages for the teams playing today:

The biggest edges based on this dashboard for tonight’s matchups are Kings +1.5 (-195) over the Blues, Panthers ML (-137) over the Stars, and the Maple Leafs/Flames Under (6, -120).

Keep an eye out for Starting Goalies.

My Pick:

Lightning ML -145: The only pick of the night. The Model really likes the Lightning and gives them around a -180 edge with the confirmed goalie matchup of Vasilevskiy (TB) and Nedeljkovic (CAR). The line will probably move to -155/-160 shortly so I would take it while you can. Tampa looked like the better team when they played on Monday, and with Carolina most likely getting the better goaltending matchup when they meet again tomorrow, I’d take Tampa tonight.
