DFS NHL Blue Line Power Plays March 9th 2021 Slate Summary
You’re getting this post late and we’ve now got a short window to figure out how to conquer our DFS NHL slate for this evening, Tuesday, March 9 2021. But, we have a clear line of sight on some of the top picks and best value plays for the slate, and we’ll make this brief.
First off, a quick view of our schedule. We’re back to another Tuesday fantasy hockey evening with eight games in the Main slate. Yes, there’s a game at 6pm EST as well, offering a ‘full day’ of hockey DFS plays, but both DraftKings and FanDuel offer better options with the Main slate.
NHL Schedule for March 9, 2021
A few high-level thoughts come to mind when I look at this slate:
I like the goalie odds in the Lightning vs. Red Wings game.
The Blackhawks offense continues to surprise, behind solid net-minding and a decent defense this year. They’re a stacking target!
Jets or Maple Leafs in Toronto? Why not stack both (or either) and enjoy a high-scoring game!
Vincent Trocheck and Filip Forsberg are each on a scoring tear this season, and should be in any lineup build we create, even if one-off plays.
Top DFS NHL Goalies
The best DFS NHL net-minder on the ice tonight is pretty simple. The Red Wings have a -33 goal differential this season, the worst in the NHL. They’re hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning, who happen to have Andrei Vasilevskiy (FD $8.6K / $8.4K DK), one of the best fantasy hockey goalies on ice this season.
The Wings won’t get a ton of shots on goal, but they do average at least 28 per game. So, Vas should get around 25 to 30 saves, he has a STRONG win probability, and his shutout potential is high.
The only downside to Vas is the chalkiness he’ll have with both FanDuel and Draftkings.
After Vas, I’d consider Sergei Bobrovsky (FD $7.6K / $7.9K DK) as either a cheap value play for FanDuel or more of a mid-tier salary play at goalie for DraftKings.
Lastly, he’s been risky, but Carter Hart (FD $7.8K / $8.3K DK) is facing a Sabres team he recently shutout and the banged up Eichel-less Sabres are struggling lately. This could be a cheaper way to get a Vas-like slam-dunk win on Tuesday.
Finally, Joonas Korpisalo ($7.4K DK) is cheap enough for DraftKings to be at least worth a value play consideration in a risky play for GPP on Tuesday evening.
Top DFS NHL Centers, Wingers, and Defenders
For top Defenders on DraftKings, consider Dougie Hamilton and Roman Josi your best shots at most points, if you can afford them. For mid-tier salary range plays, Miro Heiskanen and Mikhail Sergachev are you best options.
For value at the D-Man position on DraftKings, Gustav Forsling and Brett Pesce should be your targets. Forsling is a BARGAIN considering he’s playing on a power play unit for under $3K on DraftKings.
For Defense on FanDuel, I’d replace Charlie McAvoy for Josi as a top play. Heiskanen and Sergachev fit nicely in the mid-tier for FD as well, but so does Pesce as he’s more expensive on the application.
Finally, Esa Lindell, Filip Hronek, and Dante Fabbro are some unique value plays at the D-man position for FanDuel NHL.
For skater stacks, the best play is likely the top Blackhawks line including Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane. After that, here are some other options at Center and Winger…
Here are some other DFS NHL plays by tier at Center:
Top – Vincent Trocheck, Aleksander Barkov, and Sean Couturier
Mid-Tier – Anthony Cirelli (FanDuel) and Jean-Gabriel Pageau (DraftKings)
Value – Carl Soderberg, Yanni Gourde, and Boone Jenner (FanDuel)
Here are some other DFS NHL plays by tier at Winger:
Top – Filip Forsberg
Mid-Tier – Ondrej Palat, William Nylander (DraftKings), Joel Farabee (FanDuel), Dominik Kubalik (FanDuel)
Value – Frank Vatrano, Bobby Ryan (FanDueL), and Eeli Tolvanen (DraftKings)
Blue Line Power Plays Summary for March 9th 2021
Rounding out the slate, we really like the Blackhawks scoring for tonight, grabbing and stacking anyone from their top two regular lines or their top power play line.
There are plenty of DFS NHL value plays you can use at defense, winger, or center, but try to pair them with a top play at each position, especially where there are utility spots.
At goalie, Vas should be the top play of the night, but Carter Hart could be a sneaky good play considering his match-up. And, Bobrovsky and Korpisalo offer solid points at the mid-tier salary range as well.
