NHL DFS Blue Line Power Plays (Mar. 2)

DFS NHL Blue Line Power Plays March 2nd 2021 Slate Summary

While only one game mirrors the games we saw in Monday night’s DFS NHL slate, Tuesday looks very similar, in some respects. However, the lineup focus and outcome will be different.

In Monday night’s slate, I focused primarily in the Canadian/North division. In this slate, we’re looking further south at a broad range of solid DFS NHL picks across the 16 teams of options.

A few high-level thoughts come to mind when I look at this slate:

I like the goalie odds in the Lightning vs. Stars game.

Should we go with the Senators wave over the Canadiens or do the Habs bounce back now that the Sens got Claude Julien fired? Leaning Canadiens!

The Jets could stay hot hosting the Canucks, but I also like the Canucks. Great stackable game!

The Rangers could be a sneaky high-point DFS NHL play on Tuesday night.

The Flyers are hot, and play a team they’ve torched so far this season.

Top DFS NHL Goalies

This is one of those rare Tuesday night DFS NHL slates where I’m actually leaning heavy toward the one of the most expensive goalie plays, Andrei Vasilevskiy (FD $8.8K / $8.3K DK).

Over the last several weeks, we’ve found better value plays making it easier to load up on top skaters. However, in this slate Vas is a clear top play at goalie, coupled with some very good value plays at the skater positions.

So, while Jake Allen (FD $7.8K / $8.2K DK) is a solid mid-tier play, yes the Canadiens are likely able to bounce-back against a pesky Senators team who got the Habs coach fired early, it’s smarter to pay up for the Bolts top net-minder facing the Stars.

You may even be tempted to use Matt Murray‘s (FD $6.6K / $6.9K DK) value against the Canadiens, given the Sens recent success against a good Canadian hockey team.

Or, you’re taking a flier on Aaron Dell (FD $6.8K / $7.3K DK) with the Devils hosting the Islanders. Also not a bad value option for GPP.

But, Vas is likely able to get enough saves, has a shot at a shutout, and could yield enough points that he’s still the best value play at this position, even though he’s seemingly expensive.

And, we’re able to still easily afford the top skaters in this slate, because they’re still affordable fantasy hockey options.

Top DFS NHL Centers, Wingers, and Defenders

As I indicated already, I don’t think we need to spend too much on our skaters in this slate. There is plenty of solid value for both DraftKings and FanDuel NHL at the Center and Winger spots.

For that reason, this is a unique slate where we can pay up for Victor Hedman (FD $6.9K / $6.8K DK) or Dougie Hamilton ($6.8K DK). Hamilton is especially cheap on FD, only taking $5.2K salary out of your pot.

Brett Pesce (FD $4.2K / $4.3K DK) is a cheap solid play from the Hurricanes PP2 line. He’s hot right now, likely as a result of nine shots on goal in his last three games, including five blocked shots.

Nick Leddy ($3.8K) is another sneaky value play for DraftKings defense.

For FanDuel, you could even pick down to Travis Sanheim or Filip Hronek and likely get 20 to 30 points using only about $7K to $8K of your salary. And as always this season, Adam Fox is a solid lock at the D-man position, although often chalky.

Shea Weber, Thomas Chabot, and Mikhail Sergachev (DK) also add value in the mid-tier level for defense picks.

Once you have your D-men picks lock and loaded, and you know if you’re going with Vas or a cheaper value play for the goalie position, you can now fill in our top skaters for the Center, Winger, and Utility spots.

Mark Scheifele and Sean Couturier are each leading the top line for the Jets and Flyers, two stacks I’m targeting for this slate. In addition to Coots, I’m going to add Joel Farabee and James van Riemsdyk from the Flyers top line.

In additional to Scheifele, I’m adding Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler to complete the WGP PP1 stack.

As I hinted earlier, I’m leaning against the Senators in this match-up in Montreal. I get it…they’re hot. They just got the Habs head coach inexplicably fired. But the Habs are likely to bounce-back in this match-up.

I’d go with the top Habs line in this slate, if you’re looking to stack other than the Flyers and Jets. However, the Penguins 2-line along with the Canadiens third line are two great value/contrarian plays, especially for GPP.

A couple of other good stacks likely off some radars are the Canucks top ling, along with the Penguins and and Rangers top PP lines.

Here are some other DFS NHL plays by tier at Center:

Top – Mika Zibanejad (DraftKings) and Elias Pettersson (FanDuel)

Mid-Tier – Ryan Strome, Elias Pettersson (DraftKings), Mika Zibanejad (FanDuel), and Kevin Hayes (FanDuel)

Value – Jesperi Kotkaniemi (DraftKings), Vladislav Namestnikovm (FanDuel), and Yanni Gourde

Here are some other DFS NHL plays by tier at Winger:

Top – Tyler Toffoli (DraftKings) and Brendan Gallagher (DraftKings)

Mid-Tier – Tomas Tatar (DraftKings), J.T. Miller (DraftKings), and Bryan Rust (FanDuel)

Value – Kyle Okposo (DraftKings), Joel Armia, and Andrew Copp (FanDuel)

Blue Line Power Plays Summary for March 2nd 2021

There are some intriguing value plays at goalie on Tuesday night, but we love Vas if he’s starting between the pipes for the Bolts over the Stars.

The Rangers top line, Penguins second line and top power play line, and Canucks are stacks likely all falling under a lot of DFS NHL player radars.

You should consider each stack but we’re spending most of our focus on the Canadiens, Flyers, and Jets.

Pesce or Fox (FD) are great value plays at defense, and they’re easy to afford along with Hedman or Hamilton are affordable even with our top stacks and top net-minder on Tuesday.
