FanDuel NHL Blue Line Power Plays – August 4 Slate Summary
Well hockey was back over the last weekend, and I’m now a huge fan of these ‘bubble’ sport options. FanDuel NHL had some exciting slates over the weekend, and it continued into Monday.
For Tuesday, it appears FanDuel has settled on a three-slate split, to best capture the time slots. We have two games starting between noon and 2:30 PM ET for both the Early Only and All Day slates. There are a decent amount of GPP options in the Early Only slate.
The only way to capture the 4 PM ET games are with the All Day slate, but we have less attractive tournament plays there. Your best bet for most tournament and cash plays is the Main slate, with three games starting at 6:45 PM ET.
We’ll take a look at the schedule, likely starting goalies for each, provide the best options for each of these three slates, and summarize your top fantasy hockey NHL DFS plays for the day.
Here’s a look at the schedule and likely starters for the day:
Early Only/All Day Goalies
12 PM ET Panthers – Sergei Bobrovsky ($7,600) vs Islanders – Semyon Varlamov ($8,400)
2:30 PM ET Coyotes – Darcy Kuemper ($7,600) vs Predators – Pekka Rinne ($8,000)
All Day Goalies (Only)
4 PM ET Blue Jackets – Elvis Merzlikins ($7,500) vs Maple Leafs – Frederik Andersen ($8,200)
Main/All Day Slates
6:45 PM ET Flames – Cam Talbot ($8,100) vs Jets – Laurent Brossoit ($7,100)
8 PM ET Hurricanes – James Reimer ($7,300) vs Rangers Henrik Lundqvist ($7,200)
10:45 PM ET Wild – Alex Stalock ($7,600) vs Canucks Jacob Markstrom ($7,700)
Top Goalies
First of all, unfortunately my favorite NHL DFS goalie is on home ice in a winnable situation but only for the All Day slate. In order to play Frederik Andersen, I’ll likely enter a few All Day lineups.
Even when Andersen is lowing, like his one goal against loss to the Blue Jackets on Sunday, he’s still piling up over 20 FanDuel MLB points. It’s likely the Leafs, like many other heavy-weights we saw yesterday, will bounce back on Tuesday and Andersen will be a 30+ point play.
The Early Only slate is a tough spot for goalies, but Pekka Rinne should be a sneaky 30+ FanDuel NHL play. I get why the Preds started with Suros, he was fantastic before the long break.
But, while Rinne had some very difficult to watch high-scoring losses in late February and early March, he’s also produced some gems, like a one goal against win on home ice over the Blues.
The Preds are favored to bounce back in this one and it’s expected to be a tight game. Additionally, the Isles and Panthers snoozer over the weekend likely has most NHL DFS players flocking to their goalies, so we expect low-ownership of Rinne as well.
For the Main Slate, most fantasy hockey players will jump to Alex Stalock, after his shutout of the Canucks over the weekend. I think that’s a mistake we need to pounce on.
Jacob Markstrom has had three tough losses against the Wild in his last three games facing them. But, he had solid outings averaging around 30 saves per game, and earlier in the season, he dominated the wild with a one goal-against win.
With solid Canucks offense on Tuesday night, Markstrom should be a low-owned, high value, play with the opportunity for a shutout.
Top Centers, Wingers, and Defenders
I’ll try to make this as easy and succinct as possible, because there’s a lot going on with these slates throughout the day. First, I’m starting my day of with Mika Zibanejad ($8,000) and a top-line Rangers stack in my Main Slate lineups.
So with Zib, add Chris Kreider ($5,700) and Pavel Buchnevich ($5,100) for some decent mid-salary range value in your lineup. The Jets Kyle Connor ($7,000) and Hurricanes Justin Williams ($4,200) fit nicely with the Rangers stack as two one-off plays with high upside and value.
For a value center in the Main slate, consider Mikael Backlund ($5,700) manning the Flames second line. And on defense, do some sort of combination with Neal Pionk ($4,600), Tony DeAngelo ($5,500), or Alexander Edler ($4,300).
For the All Day slate, I’d including most of those players as your top options as well, but factor in Maple Leafs players like Tyson Barrie ($4,900) on defense, Mitch Marner ($7,500) at winger, and Auston Matthews ($8,500) at center.
For the Early Only slate, we’re fading the Coyotes, and focused Predators, Panthers, and Islanders.
I realize how boring the Isles and Panthers may have looked in the opening game, but Varly hasn’t been consistent this season, and the Panthers have incredible firepower with Aleksander Barkov ($7,100) at center, Jonathan Huberdeau ($7,300) and Mike Hoffman ($6,500) as wingers.
You can get some value out of the Panthers from MacKenzie Weegar ($4,000), Keith Yandle ($4,600), and/or Aaron Ekblad ($5,000).
FanDuel NHL Blue Line Power Plays for August 4
We’re looking at playing all three ‘key’ FanDuel MLB slates on Tuesday. The Early Only and Main slates have the best GPP and Cash options, but All Day is intriguing with the Maple Leafs likely bouncing back on Tuesday.
Our top three goals for each slate are Rinne, Andersen, and Markstrom in time-order. From there, I’m stacking Panthers with some Islanders, and adding some Predators. I mentioned the names above.
For the Main slate, I’m mostly focused on the Rangers top line, along with some Jets and Hurricanes with either one-off plays at winger or a two-man combination at winger and defense.
In the All Day, I’m combining all of these options, but adding in some Maples Leafs.
