NHL DFS Blue Line Power Plays (Feb. 9)

DFS NHL Blue Line Power Plays February 9th 2021 Slate Summary

After back-to-back Tuesday slates which looked almost identical to each other, we have a funky Tuesday night DFS NHL slate.

The Blues, Wild, Coyotes, and Avalanche are all postponed to play tonight due to COVID.

Additionally, while I’m pumped for the Caps and Flyers showdown again at 6pm EST tonight, a bit earlier than we typically see games, I don’t love the “All Day” tournament and cash options, so I’m going to focus on the Main Slate tonight.

Top DFS NHL Goalies

With an average of between 25 and 30 DFS NHL points per game and a very clear favorable match-up for the Golden Knights in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, Marc-Andre Fluery (FD $8.8K / $8.4K DK) is easily the best play of the night against the Ducks.

This is one of those nights were the other goalie options are really that appealing and swallowing the chalk is the best option.

Especially for DraftKings, there aren’t many value plays at this position. Kevin Lankinen (FD $7.2K / $7.3K DK) is really your only other good option in this slate.

Lankinen doesn’t have as favorable a match-up, visiting the Stars in Dallas on road ice. But, Kevin has over 30 saves in each of his last three starts for the Blackhawks, and five of his seven career starts beginning in January of this year.

Even with a loss, Lankinen has still collected double-digit points for your lineup, so he’s your next best play at the position. ‘

Yes, Andrei Vasilevskiy (FD $8.7K / $8.0K DK) is another solid play, like Fleury, but with the Bolts offensive onslaught and solid defense, you’re going to pile up less points with a lower save total.

If you’re really looking for lower ownership or a solid GPP option to counter the chalk, Anton Khudobin (FD $8.0 / $8.1K DK) is a great Lankinen fade and Jonathan Quick (FD $6.7K / $7.8K DK) is a super-risky play but worth the value in FanDuel.

Top DFS NHL Centers, Wingers, and Defenders

Before we jump into the Center and Winger options, I’d like to look at defenders first. Pealing back the vail a little bit here, I’ll tell you I typically like to plug in my goalie and defenders FIRST, before I focus on the Center and Wingers.

My focus at the defender position is to try to get at least one, but usually two, value plays. Both DraftKings and FanDuel load up this position with great fantasy hockey options at a very low value.

If you play enough DFS NHL, you realize this is sort of an obvious secret to winning at least some money in almost every GPP and cash game.

For this slate, Darnell Nurse ($5.9K on DK) and Tyson Barrie ($5.7K on DK) are the top two plays on DraftKings at the defense position. They’re not dirt-cheap, but you can play one or both for a total of over 30 DFS NHL points.

They’re great plays if you went the cheaper Lankinen route at goalie.

But for value options, Mikhail Sergachev ($4.4K on DK) and Neal Pionk ($4.2K on DK) should each yield 10+ points in your D-man spots at a fairly cheap price per point.

On FanDuel, Nurse and Barrie are still very attractive, and fit well with an EDM1 stack, but Keith Yandle ($4.4K on FD) and Alec Martinez ($4.1K) are also likely to yield double-digit points in this slate, and they’re so cheap on FanDuel they’re must haves in your lineup.

At the very least, plug Martinez in one or many of your lineups!

At center, with the Oilers playing the Senators again, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are your top two center plays in all formats. Chalky? Yes, but they’re also the greatest potential of any player getting 30+ DFS NHL points.

Anze Kopitar has at least an assist or goal in eight of the Kings eleven games so far this year, averaging over 15 DFS NHL points-per-game. For $6.2K on DraftKings, he’s a solid mid-tier value.

Anthony Cirelli continues to be dirt-cheap in both DraftKings and FanDuel, averaging around the same amount of points as Kopitar, and Dylan Strome is a must-have value play in DraftKings as well.

On FanDuel, Cody Glass is a ridiculous $3K, while averaging around 14 minutes of ice time per game, including the Golden Knights top power play unit lately, and has two goals and two assists in just five games.

Roope Hintz ($4.8K) is also a solid value at center for FanDuel, leading the Stars second line.

Max Pacioretty and Patrick Kane are easily the best winger plays in all formats for DraftKings AND FanDuel in this slate. Patches has three goals and four assists in his last three games, and has a perfect match-up on home ice tonight.

Kaner has heated up lately, after a cold start, and has three goals and seven assists in his last five games. This run resembles the two-plus point-per-game (goals and assists equal one point) run he made during much of last season. That should continue tonight.

Alex DeBrincat and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are benefactors of being on the Kane and McDavid lines, respectively. They’re each priced nicely in the mid-tier range for both FD and DK.

Mark Stone is a bit pricey for FanDuel, but he’s a perfect complement to Patches on DraftKings.

Dominik Kahun, Anthony Mantha, and Bobby Ryan are solid value plays in DraftKings, each with the potential for double-digit points getting some power play time or on the ice for nearly 15 minutes.

At only $4.3K of your FanDuel salary, Reilly Smith is a steal in that tool and should be used for leverage in all formats. He’s often overlooked and has a lower ownership compared to some of the other more obvious value plays.

Andrew Copp, Evgenii Dadonov, and Jesse Puljujarvi add to a long list of FanDuel wingers who likely get us over ten points with very modest salaries.

Blue Line Power Plays Summary for February 9th 2021

So at goalie, Lankinen is a solid value play in all formats and both DraftKings and FanDuel. Fleury is likely the best, and safest goalie play of the night.

Fortunately, we always find great value at defense, and Nurse and/or Barrie are great plays, with modest salaries, as part of an EDM1 stack with McDavid, Draisaitl, and/or Nugent-Hopkins.

I’d also consider the Golden Knights, Panthers, and Lightning top lines for stacks. But, each of these stacks are going to be the more popular plugs of the night.

If you’re looking for some contrarian, or fade-the-chalk, options, consider the CHI2, SJS1, SJS2, and LAK1 as low-ownership stacks as well.
