David Jones took down the Week 8 Monday Night Showdown which is the fourth time he has won it the past five contests.

I want to start off this article by saying you must have the absolute nuts to win the top prize up top on large field GPPs. There is no room for mistakes with so many entries in these contests. If you think you are going to win it all by playing a combo of the top seven guys in the player pool, you are not. If a combo of a bunch of guys you have heard of before is indeed the best scoring lineup, you will most likely tie for first. If that sounds good to you, then go for it. It will be profitable if you nail it, but for me, I like to be a little different on these slates. I will be making multiple teams and taking long shots on a few cheap guys.
Leaving cash on the table in these NFL DFS contests is fine too. This makes your lineup even more unique and lower owned because a lot of amateurs will be pulling their hair out to use their entire salary.
That all being said, I have looked at every possible player that can get on the field and listed my picks below.
The NFL DFS Week 16 Sunday Night Showdown Picks
It may seem obvious but on FanDuel you want the highest scoring player in the MVP slot. On Draftkings it is different, you want the best value. These picks were made with Fanduel pricing.
Update: McCoy out
MVP: Mitchell Tribusky ($15,000 FD) He has been playing very well lately and putting up big points. His ability to scramble and possibly vulture a rushing TD has me very interested. He has outscored Mahomes in three of the last four games.
MVP 2: David Montgomery ($10,000 FD) You can run all over the Chiefs. It is harder to pass on them. Montgomery technically has the best offensive matchup of any player in the game.
Pivot: Tyreek Hill ($14,000 FD)
Pivot: Patrick Mahomes ($16,000 FD)
Pivot: Travis Kelce ($13,500 FD)
Flex Options:
- Allen Robinson ($14,000 FD) A great wide receiver but I didn’t want to list him MVP because if he has two touchdowns, so does Mitch Tribusky, and then some. I do not believe Robinson will be the highest scoring player (for FanDuel) in the game, so he is a top flex option for his floor.
- Anthony Miller ($12,000 FD) His price his getting higher than I like because of his impressive run over the past month. His targets will be there. Solid play at flex.
- Chiefs RBs: Damien Williams ($8,000 FD) What a mess at running back for the Chiefs. They seem to be going full committee. Dame is first on the depth chart and I trust him more than the other two guys personally, but look, it’s really close. I am not going to act like I know who’s number Andy Reid is going to call in the red zone because of the three options he has. Does he go with the Williams off injury? McCoy? or give the rookie Thompson some run? I am leaning towards Williams followed by McCoy. All the prices are close so if you are having a difficult decision deciding, here is the easy solution on a showdown. Make three teams, and sub out the different running backs.UPDATE MCCOY INACTIVE 3B: LeSean McCoy ($8,500 FD), 3C: Darwin Thompson ($8,000 FD) I just want one Chiefs running back if I am playing Mahomes.
- Sammy Watkins ($8,500 FD) Fair price. He has not done much in weeks but he will be on the field the majority of the time with the offense. It’s a single game slate. You can take a chance on him.
- Tarik Cohen ($9,000 FD) Boom or bust. His 10 targets last week are encouraging though. I like him better on DraftKings.
- Harrison Butker ($9,500 FD) Chiefs Kicker
- Eddy Pineiro ($9,000 FD) Bears Kicker
- Jesper Horstead ($5,500 FD) He is the starting TE for the Bears and is extremely cheap
- Mecole Hardman ($7,500 FD)
- Demarcus Robinson ($6,000 FD) This is too cheap
Punts:
- Update: Javon Wim ACTIVE: Like as a punt
- J.P. Holtz ($6,000 FD) TE2 for Bears who are thin at the postion
- Riley Ridley ($5,000 FD) Here is a guy they should have been playing much earlier in the season. I really like his talent. He was a standout at the University of Georgia. Great punt in my opinion, but do not use for cash, or if you care if he puts up a zero and you lose with him. In huge GPPs I will take a shot.
- Blake Bell ($5,000) Deep punt. Got some garbage time run last game.
- Spencer Ware ($7,000 FD) He got seven carries last game but that was because Damien Williams was out. I don’t think he contributes much here at all, if any. He is an RB4.
