IMPORTANT: NBA DFS is completely different that any other sport. Players get ruled out five minutes before games and you HAVE TO BE READY to pivot. I will update this article as close to lock as possible with any big news, but play it safe and stay on top of the news yourself. Hanging out in our Slack Chat is a great way to keep up to date.
There will be updates. Check back an hour before lock.
Point Guard
- Trae Young ($9,400 FD)
I hope you drafted him in season long because he is an absolute stud. He played last night but I am not worried about his minutes in back to backs. He is the glue that holds the Hawks together so he should get his normal load. In his first two games he scored 38 and 39 real life points going over 55 FanDuel points in each game.
2. Luka Doncic ($10,400)
He too has had a phenomenal start to the season with 49, 55 and 61 FanDuel points in his first three games. He is a nightly triple double threat. I like player that score, asset and rebound and he does all three.
Pivots: Jamal Murray, Ja Morant (if he plays, and does not have a minutes limit)
Update: Rondo out, adding Alex Caruso, Quinn Cook
Shooting Guard
- Jimmy Butler ($9,000 FD)
I have been waiting all offseason for this spot. It is Jimmy Butler’s first game in Miami. He is going to go nuts. I will probably lock him in 90% of my lineups. Besides my narrative love the matchup is also great. You can attack the Hawks guards and be successful in NBA DFS.
2. Dillion Brooks ($4,700 FD)
Shooting guard is a thin position today so I am searching for value. Brooks got hot last game and played 37 minutes. If we can get anywhere close to 30 minutes today he is the safest punt at SG I am seeing.
Pivots: Danny Green, Malik Beasley, Gary Harris
Small Forward
- LeBron James ($11,300 FD)
I usually like to fade LeBron in NBA DFS but I don’t think that’s the smart move tonight, especially on FanDuel (where I usually play). The SF position is extremely thin and there is no one, and certainly not two, players who should be able to come close to LeBron’s production. Let’s lock in LeBron and figure the rest out.
2. DeAndre Bembry ($4,200 FD)
Bembry is going to get around 20 minutes at a cheap price. I don’t love the matchup but there is not much at small forward today.
Pivots: Justise Winslow (he is getting a ton of minutes, but that was with Butler out. He should still be starting but now but his usage should go down. I am not sure he can pay off his NBA DFS price tag tonight)
Update: Pivots: Jae Crowder
Power Forward
- Anthony Davis ($12,300 FD)
He is a threat to be the highest scoring player on any NBA DFS slate, especially if it is only three games. He is very expensive, but he is also going to probably get you at least 50 points. I will do whatever I can to get him in my lineups. I know if I don’t lock him in I will regret it immediately when the game starts. It is going to be very tough with a lot of quality options to spend up on tonight. We are going to need some value to open up before lock most likely. My recommendation is make one lineup with Davis and one without.
2. Bam Adebayo ($7,800 FD)
Bam has finally got a starting gig and is doing a lot with it. He has exceeded value in every NBA DFS slate so far this season. Jimmy Butler is returning and will “hog” the ball more, but I don’t think that affects Bam. He has a double double in every game but one and should be able to do it against the Atlanta Hawks. Although the Hawks are not as terrible as they were last season, they are still one of the best teams to target on this slate.
Pivots: Kristaps Porzingis, John Collins, Paul Milsap (starting to like him more)
UPDATE: Value Pivots: Powell is playing, bumping down Brandon Clarke and Maxi Kleber
Center
- Nikola Jokic ($10,700 FD)
He will be the top scoring center and it’s not close. He will be coming off a back to back so his minutes may be a little less than normal, but he should still do plenty to outscore the other available NBA DFS centers. There is not one other center on the slate that is guaranteed 20 minutes. Easy choice.
Pivots: Jonas Valanciunas, Dwight Howard, JaVale McGee, Mason Plumlee
Note: There is no way to get all the players you want today. We have some very good options at almost every position and we are going to make some hard decisions. It is a good night to make a few teams to get exposure to everyone you want. It is also a good night to game stack.
I am going to make a lot of random lineups and a lot of different game stack lines. My thinking is if one of the studs goes off that means the game is close and the value guys will have opportunity to pay off their salary as well. What kills you in NBA DFS on a night like this is if one game gets out of hand and starters get pulled.

Anthony Davis should be able to take advantage of this Memphis front court. He stacks points fast and I could see him getting 30 here. Jonas Valanciunas usually gets around 20 minutes which I don’t believe is enough to get 20 real life points. He has not done it once in his first three games.
