NBA DFS Saturday Night Position Breakdown with DFS Pro David Jones

NBA DFS is all about finding the best opportunities for guaranteed production with a high upside. Follow my stud and value plays and lock in the NBA DFS Picks of Destiny.

David Jones won 100K on FanDuel! Read about it here

IMPORTANT: NBA DFS is completely different than any other sport. Players get ruled out five minutes before games and you HAVE TO BE READY to pivot. I will update this article as close to lineup lock as possible with any big news, but play it safe and stay on top of the news yourself.

I refer to FanDuel pricing today.

I will update this closer to lock when news comes out but these are my current leans.

1/18 NBA DFS Point Guard

  1. UPDATE: WALKER OUT Kemba Walker ($7,000 FD) Good matchup against the Suns and the C’s are down Jaylen Brown. I do respect Rubio’s defense, but also respect Walker’s offense. The price is right.
  2. Chris Paul ($7,100 FD) The Thunder are down Gallinari, Nadar and Ferguson. Paul is getting mid 30’s minutes in his starting point guard role. Like with Adams, you need the game to stay close, but I do like his upside tonight. I only want one OKC guard, and lean Schroeder for his price, but I think Paul is a guy that is being overlooked and should give you solid value in a close game.
  3. Ricky Rubio ($6,300 FD) He will be popular tonight because people are going to chase his 61 point game and his price is still reasonable at $6,300. He is not a bad play, but will be an over-owned play. If you want him I can’t fault you because of the price, but don’t expect another game like he had against the Knicks on Thursday. However with his price you do not need 61 points. Mid 30’s points work for him and he should be able to get at least that.

Punt: Anfernee Simons ($3,700 FD). He gets the largest bump on the Trail Blazers with no CJ McCollum.

Punt 2: Jeff Teague ($4,500 FD) This is a long shot guys but I am a narrative guy. Teague makes his return to ATL tonight (where he played the majority of his career). State Farm arena is going go wild for him. The Hawks will also need him to play decent minutes with their starters coming off a B2B in San Antonio.

UPDATE: Fade and Pray: Damian Lillard ($8,900 FD) Yes, he gets a boost with no CJ McCollum, however he is still sick and had a very late game last night. ESPN posted a video of him out at 2AM signing autographs, which is very respectful but not great for his health while fighting sickness. I think I am staying away. Update: The Blazers just made a trade and will only have eight men available tonight. Lillard back on the board. He is going to be forced to play big minutes.

1/18 NBA DFS Shooting Guard

  1. Zach LaVine ($8,600 FD) Wow, this time last week LaVine cost $6,800. Oh how a week changes things in NBA DFS. LaVine is getting close to too expensive but if you find the salary you can feel safe LaVine is getting a clean 40 points tonight against the Cleveland Cavs defense who rank 25th against the shooting guard.
  2. Marcus Smart ($5,100 FD) He is getting big minutes with no Jaylen Brown. I only want him if he is starting, which he should be. Devin Booker defense is bad and shooting guards go off agains the Suns (Huerter is the latest to do it). I love Smart’s price and looks like a staple on my lineup.
  3. UPDATE: Donovan Mitchel ($6,600 FD) Too cheap against Kings

Pivots: Dennis Schroeder ($5,500 FD) Great price against Portland with OKC missing Gallinari, Ferguson or Nadar. A very nice salary saver.

Gut play: Devin Booker ($8,800 FD) It has been a while but I witnessed Booker put up 70 REAL LIFE POINTS at Boston a couple years ago and had the Celtics fans cheering him on (a difficult thing to imagine). It not the best matchup and he will have the Celtics full defensive attention. But, I still would take a shot in GPPs if I had multiple lineups.

Fade and Pray: James Harden there is too much value at shooting guard and Lakers have a fantastic defense. Of course it gets much better if Davis is back, but I doubt we have the news in time. Update: With all the value popping up fitting Harden is getting easy. Turning into a stars and scrubs night.

1/18 Small Forward

  1. Lebron James ($11,000 FD) Love if Davis is out. He is in the Vegas projected highest scoring game of the slate and needs to bounce back from his slow start his last outing. High price, but high floor and ceiling.
  2. Carmelo Anthony ($6,300 FD) No CJ McCollum and going against another one of his old teams gives me enough confidence that Melo can exceed his salary expectations tonight. Kent Bazemore being terrible also helps. I like him a ton at $6,300 FD.
  3. Tobias Harris ($6,800 FD) He is still too cheap with Embiid out and gets to play to struggling Knicks. Small forward seems straight forward tonight.

Pivot: Gordon Hayward ($5,700 FD) No Jaylen Brown and going against the Suns. Great price, great play.

Pivot 2: Joe Ingles ($5,600 FD)

Update: Nassir Little ($3,500 FD) Blazers just traded Bazemore. Little will probably start and get more than enough minutes to pay off min price

1/18 NBA DFS Power Forward

Note: No word on Anthony Davis yet and I am sure we will not have it before FanDuel lock due to the Lakers record of waiting until the last second to let us know who is starting. You can’t play him on FD even though he is in a great spot. If he is announced as starting with not minutes limit, pivoting to him on DraftKings would be one of my priorities.

  1. Jayson Tatum ($7,600 FD) Last game without Brown he got 40 minutes. Getting close to that time on the court looks likely again tonight against the Suns who get lit up by power forwards.
  2. Nemanja Bjelica ($5,700 FD) He gets a tough matchup against the Jazz but he is getting mid 30’s minutes a game. His price is still too cheap for his new role for the Kings.
  3. Nerlens Noel ($4,300 FD)

Pivot: Kyle Kuzma ($4,700 FD) Love if Davis is out against the Houston Rockets. He is hit or miss, but he would be in a great spot in a high scoring game if he is getting 30 minutes, which I would expect tonight (with no Davis). IF Davis is back, you gotta fade him. This is a hard play on FanDuel because we will not have the news.

Update: OUT Punt: John Henson ($4,100 FD) ONLY if Love is out AND he is starting.

1/18 DFS Center

Note: Whiteside gets bump with only eight players available for Portland

  1. Andre Drummond ($10,100 FD) He has been slumping and not paying off his expensive price but today I think he bounces back against the Atlanta Hawks. Bigs against the Hawks are thriving and the Atlanta is coming home after a taxing game against the Spurs. I can see the Hawks coming in tired and possibly losing here. Drum has also been rumored to be a big trade target for the Atlanta Hawks. Does he come in and show them what they are missing? Eh, maybe if he is desperate to get out of Detroit, but he also would probably rather go to a contender. Either way he is in a great match and I can see a 20/20 game out of the big guy. I like him a lot tonight.
  2. Steven Adams ($6,300 FD) Big men against Portland is a thing but we need a fews other factors to fall into place. Obviously Adams needs to play a full allotment of minutes (he is questionable now). We also need the game to stay close (currently the spread is -6). When games get out of hand Adams gets pulled. The factor in Adams favor is that Gallinari is out, which may help OKC from running away with it sense Portland is missing CJ McCollum. It is a somewhat risky play, but he is in the right spot.

Punt: Tristan Thompson ($5,800 FD) Kevin Love may rest, I only would consider Thompson against the Bulls if Love is out.
