NASCAR DFS Pit Stop: Truck Series from Talladega 10/3/20

Welcome to the NASCAR DFS Pit Stop for Saturday afternoon’s Truck Series race from Talladega Super Speedway! This will be the second, and final, Super Speedway race of the season for the Truck Series in 2020. We haven’t had a SS race in this series since the opening race of the season at Daytona which was won by Grant Enfinger ($9,600) in a virtual photo finish. We saw three huge wrecks in the Daytona race this season with at least 9 trucks being involved in each of the 3 wrecks. Looking back to the last race at Talladega in the fall of 2019, there 5 wrecks involving which left 10 different drivers out of the race. This race was won by Spencer Boyd ($5,600) who led just one lap and started in P25. With only 164 laps in this race on Saturday, we once again are hunting for place differential points and finishing position and less for dominator points. Like with most Super Speedway, or plate races, do NOT be afraid to leave salary on the table.

NASCAR DFS: Dominators

There are not many drivers I want to use in this section and I will advise that you only roster 1 driver in this price, at most.

Austin Hill ($10,400)

Starting Position: 2nd

If there is one driver who can dominate this race, or at least lead the majority of the 164 laps in this race, it will be Hill. Last week at Vegas it took until late in the race before Hill got up front, but on Saturday he starts on the front row next to Sheldon Creed ($9,200). Both Hill and Creed are playable but in GPP’s only (which is what I strongly recommend ONLY playing for this weekend) and could each lead the open stage and more in this race. I will probably be making multiple lineups and be using at least one if each. Hill does own a SS win, which came in 2019 at Daytona.

Other Options: Zane Smith ($10,000), Grant Enfinger ($9,600)

NASCAR DFS: Mid Tier

Derek Kraus ($8,600)

Starting Position: 17th

Kraus had a great showing in his first Super Speedway race in the Truck Series earlier this season when he started 16th and ended up 4th at Daytona. With Kraus starting 17th he has some good place differential upside and will need another top 10 or top 5 to make value at his price but I think he will be able to, if he can avoid the big one(s).

Trevor Bayne ($8,200) – P25

Kaz Grala ($8,100) – P28

Robby Lyons ($8,000) – P38

These three are grouped together because as of writing they could be considered my “core”. I don’t typically have a core I use in all lineups because I never want 100% exposure to any driver, but I do plan on having at least 2 of these drivers in each of my lineups. They all offer great upside and could easily all end up in the optimal lineup on Saturday. Grala is probably my favorite because he is the best driver of the bunch and in the best equipment. Grala hops into the #44 that is usually driven by Natalie Decker but she is dealing with a medical issue. I think Grala could easily get this truck to a top 10 finish. Lyons has run 3 races this season and has finished no worse than 26th in any of those races. In three Super Speedway races in his Truck Series career, Lyons has two top 15 finishes and an average finish of 19th.

Other Options: Todd Gilliland ($9,400), Tanner Gray ($7,800)

NASCAR DFS: Value Tier Rankings

Like normal when it comes to Super Speedway races, we will be living in this range on Saturday. I will most likely have 3-4 drivers from this range in every lineup. Like I said in the open, do NOT feel it’s necessary to used all of your salary. If you have less than $500 or so left, you are probably not building your lineup the right way.

  1. Jordan Anderson – $6,200 – P26
  2. Jason White – $4,800 – P30
  3. Codie Rohrbaugh – $5,800 – P34
  4. Spencer Boyd – $5,600 – P24
  5. Dawson Cram – $7,200 – P33
  6. Bayley Currey – $6,900 – P21
  7. Tate Fogleman – $5,500 – P16
  8. Korbin Forrester – $5,300 – P29
