Monday Night Football DFS – Value and Punt Plays

Andre Patton ($200) is a clear punt play at wide receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers. Over the last two weeks, he has run 55 routes and has played in over 80% of the snaps. He is clearly the number three receiver on the Chargers and is playing a mix of the slot and on the outside. Darwin Thompson ($200) is the punt play on the Chiefs if any of the other running backs are inactive in this game. LeSean McCoy ($5,200) was inactive last week and Damien Williams ($4,200) is questionable with a personal issue. Williams as of Monday morning is expected to play. Tight end Deon Yelder ($200) is also a considerable punt play as the backup tight end on the Kansas City Chiefs. Before his injury, Blake Bell was playing around 50% of the snaps in the Chiefs’ offense.

Monday Night Football DFS – Favorite Stack

The FanDuel Sportsbook has this game pinned at a 52.5 total with the Chiefs at -4.5. The smart stack is to go with the Chiefs onslaught on Monday Night Football DFS. Patrick Mahomes ($12,000) in his two career starts versus the Chargers has averaged 250 passing yards and three passing touchdowns with zero interceptions. You will stack Mahomes with a combination of Tyreek Hill ($10,600) who has caught four touchdowns in his last four games versus the Chargers. I would prefer stacking Hill over Travis Kelce ($9,000), who has traditionally struggled versus the Chargers. He has surpassed just 60 yards three times in ten games and has never scored versus them. The Chargers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to tight ends over the past four weeks.

In the four games this season where Kelce has scored under 12 DraftKings points, the combination of Sammy Watkins ($6,000), Mecole Hardman ($4,800), DeMarcus Robinson ($4,400), and Damien Williams ($7,400) saw more targets. This will be Hardman’s first game versus the Chiefs. Robinson has never had more than ten yards versus the Chargers (six career games), and Watkins was held under 25 yards in his only game with the Chiefs versus Los Angeles.

I love playing pass-catching running backs in the captain spot which sets up perfectly for Damien Williams who looks to be seizing that primary back role. Williams’ had his breakout game came versus the Chargers in Week 14 last season when he scored two touchdowns and had six receptions for 74 yards.

For kickers, the Chargers have allowed 2.2 field goal attempts per game, and the Chiefs lead the NFL in field goal attempts per game (2.7). In the higher elevation of Mexico City, Harrison Butker ($4,000) should be stapled in Chiefs centered-lineups. Interesting stat nugget for the Chargers’ defense is they have allowed the second-fewest plays of 40 or more passing yards, and sixth-fewest plays of 20 or more passing yards. Hard to buy into too many of the Kansas City secondary weapons.

Monday Night Football DFS – Contrarian Plays

Quarterback Philip Rivers ($8,800) is sure to be the less-owned quarterback and that is why playing him is the contrarian move. In his last four games versus the Chiefs, Rivers has thrown six touchdowns versus nine interceptions. He is going to be throwing the ball a lot in this game which actually makes the Kansas City Chiefs DST ($3,600) a super interesting pivot in the captain’s spot. They should have a ton of opportunities to generate pressure and create turnovers.

If the Chargers make this a game, then it will surely be on the backs of their running game, which is vastly improved since their offensive coordinator change. Over the past three weeks, the Chargers have the third-fewest passing attempts, but 14th most rushing attempts. Playing a Chargers’ running back in the captain spot could work because both of them are heavily featured in the passing game. Melvin Gordon ($8,600) and Austin Ekeler ($6,600) combined for 18 targets, 14 receptions, and 189 yards back the last time they faced the Chiefs.

Hunter Henry ($8,200) is probably in the safest spot to produce of all Chargers pass catchers with his overall consistent play since returning since the injury and the Chiefs have allowed the third-most receptions, second-most targets, and most red-zone targets to the tight end position this season. Keenan Allen ($8,400) continues to see targets but is failing to put up big yardage numbers and touchdowns. I don’t see a super high ceiling for Allen so he is fade from the captain spot and more likely a fade overall with his high salary. Rather play Mike Williams ($5,800) who is still due for some positive touchdown regression. Luckily for him, the Chargers could be the recipe for success for Williams. Williams in his last two games versus the Chargers averaged 78.5 receiving yards, six receptions, and one receiving touchdown.
