MLB DFS Hitters and Stacks for 5/12

Welcome to a Mother’s Day Sunday slate here at Win Daily DFS. Today we will be covering a few of my favorite hitters, going position by position, and then we will end with two of my favorite stacks for the day. Let’s do it:

Catcher

Yadier Molina, STL vs. PIT (DK: $4,200 FD: $3,000)

I am a big fan of the Cardinals on the slate today and they have been absolutely on fire lately. On DK where you are forced to roster a catcher, Molina is priced into the upper echelon of catchers, but on FD, where you have the option to roster a first baseman instead of a catcher, Molina is down at $3K. This makes Molina an elite play on FD and more of a secondary play on DK. Regardless, with DK forcing us to choose a catcher on every slate, I will undoubtedly have plenty of shares of Molina.

First Base

Danny Vogelbach, SEA @ BOS (DK: $4,800 FD: $3,300)

The site that you want to roster DV on is actually FanDuel, as he is a full $1,500 cheaper on FD than he is on DK. Danny is a home run machine, in case you could not tell by looking at his massive frame. However, he is definitely more of a GPP play, as when he is not hitting homers he does not typically get on base often enough, and he will definitely never steal a bag.

Second Base

Jonathan Schoop, MIN vs. DET (DK: $4,200 FD: $2,900)

Add another name to the list of underpriced players on Fanduel, Schoop is only $2,900 for Sunday’s slate. While he is projected to hit pretty late in the order, Schoop is batting .276 with six home runs and he is a part of one of the hottest offenses in the majors right now. If any pitcher is going to slow down the Twins, Daniel Norris is most likely not that guy. Get the Twins stacks ready yet again on Sunday afternoon.

Third Base

Matt Carpenter, COL vs. SDP (DK: $3,900 FD: $3,500)

Finally we arrive to a batter that is much more underpriced on DraftKings than he is on FanDuel. Carpenter is a mere $400 more expensive on DK than he is on FD, which is simply too low. With the way that salary cap and roster construction shake out on each site, Carpenter should be at least $1K more expensive on DK than he is on FD, and today that is not the case. We should take advantage of this, as the Cards will be facing off against one of the worst pitchers on the slate today in Stephen Brault.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, HOU vs. TEX (DK: $4,900 FD: $3,900)

As you will see in the stacks below, the Cards and the Astros are two of my favorite teams to target on this slate. The shortstop position is typically one of the weaker spots from slate to slate, so paying up is never really a bad idea. Correa will be swinging against Adrian Sampson, who most people have probably never even heard of. Sampson has held his ERA just under five so far this season, but we can expect the Astros to bump it up quite a bit on Sunday.

Outfielders

Mookie Betts, BOS vs. SEA (DK: $5,200 FD: $4,400)

Hoping off the value train as far as the one-offs go, another target for Sunday is Mr. Mookie Betts. Mookie will get the pleasure of taking swings against a left-hander in Fenway Park on Sunday as he takes on Marco Gonzales. Not only is Fenway one of the friendliest parks in the MLB for right-handed power hitters, but Betts will have the platoon advantage and is unsurprisingly the lone highest projected Red Sox bat on the slate. While Gonzales has been solid thus far this season, the Sox’s 14 run game may just be the spark that this team needs to really kick things into high gear.

Luke Voit, NYY @ TB (DK: $4,100 FD: $3,800)

Turning to one of the best rivalries in all of sports, my other outfield one-off target on the day will be Luke Voit. While Blake Snell is certainly no slouch, and the large Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay is daunting, Voit definitely has the power to overcome both. Voit is already up to double digit homers and 30 RBI on this young season, and he is a standout bright spot in this Yankees lineup that is struggling quite a bit due to injuries. While his OBP is lower than we would like to see, the power that comes with it can more than make up for that, and Voit will come at minimal ownership due to the tricky matchup against Snell on Sunday.

George Springer, HOU vs. TEX (DK: $5,700 FD: $4,600)

While we will definitely have to pay a pretty penny for him, Springer is one of the top plays on the slate. He is one of the more reliable bats that we will ever see, which is why he is priced up so high across the industry. While we will have to punt our other positions, including SP2, getting Astros into our lineups today should be towards the top of the priority list.

Favorite Teams to Stack

  1. Houston Astros – My first stack for this slate is an expensive one, but in order to get a team in a great spot for this slate we are going to have to pay up. Combine that with Thor being an option on the slate, and that means on two pitcher sites we will have to pay down for our second pitcher. On single pitcher sites we will have to mix in plenty of value if we want to arrive at a build that we feel comfortable with. The Astros will be facing off against Adrian Sampson at home today, and Sampson has been a very vulnerable pitcher thus far in 2019. He most recently surrendered five earned runs in five innings to the Pirates of all teams, so we can expect the Astros to feast on him today.
  2. St. Louis Cardinals – The second stack that I am looking at for Mother’s Day is the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards will be batting against Pirates starter Steven Brault, who is no stranger to letting up buckets of runs in limited innings. Brault currently has an ERA sitting at a whopping 7.11 on the season and he is just flat out not a great Major League pitcher. The Cardinals have been absolutely on fire so far this season and we should not be surprised to see that flame continue to blaze in this matchup. Ideally, we can target some right-handed bats here as Brault is a left-handed pitcher who notoriously struggles against righties.
