MLB DFS Hitter Stacks (July 31)

Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

We’ve got near-identical 10- and 11-game main slates on DK and FD, both starting at 1:35 PM EST. Five of those nine games have projected totals over 9 runs, including the LAD-COL game (FD -only) which is around 11.5 runs right now and which closes out the FD main slate. We should once again have plenty of ways to attack a slate that has some couple of clear-cut aces along with several intriguing-but-volatile mid-range GPP options– which we know from reading Adam’s Starting Rotation top-notch article.

Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!

MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 1:35 PM EST

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Josh Winckowski (w/Game Stack option)

The only $5K salary among the hitters we’re considering for the Brewers in what could become a viable MLB DFS game stack pivot is Hunter Renfroe. The hot-hitting OF smacked a homer against his former team yesterday and really likes hitting in Fenway. He has a .348 wOBA vs. RHP over his last 67 games (which include 13 HR) and remains an interesting GPP option because of his multi-HR upside in some friendly confines. If you’re looking to fade Coors on FanDuel for contrarian purposes and want to find a core to build around with GPP-winning upside, add some exposure to Christian Yelich, Kolten Wong, Rowdy Tellez, Willy Adames and catcher Omar Narvaez.

Narvaez homered yesterday to break an enormous slump and (if he starts again) gets another favorable matchup today at just $2,400 — a salary that we’ll need in our builds that utilize the top pitching options on the slate. Whenever I’m building multiple GPPs on a day where there’s a few popular-but-expensive stacks on the menu, I make a couple lines that begin with the top two studs, just in case they combine get us 60+ points as a starting point and our bargain stacks pan out.

I’ll have one GPP stacks that also fades the Red Sox here and gives one starting SP slot to Aaron Ashby, but another that runs it back with shares of Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez, Christian Vazquez, and the very affordable Bobby Dalbec.

New York Yankees vs. Zack Greinke

There’s no way we’ll get the Yankees at the lower ownership numbers we saw last weekend, but we can’t take them out of our player pool with so many great hitters clogging this lineup.

Aaron Judge remains the top player to use in MLB DFS and there’s no real reason to stop playing him until he goes hitless in a couple games. He’s seeing the ball well, seems perfectly healthy (knock on maple) and the venue is made for his swing in late July. Along with Judge, D.J. LeMahieu has become a must-play mini-stack at the top of the order, lefty sluggers like Anthony Rizzo and Matt Carpenter are still producing, and Andrew Benintendi is in play against his old team.

Zack Greinke has had a brilliant career and once in a while can carve out a victory with smoke and mirrors, but he’s inducing a ground ball rate (39.3%) that the lowest it’s been since his early days in Kansas City when he didn’t have things figured out yet. That’s a problem in Yankee Stadium, and we can give s shot to cheaper players like Isiah Kiner-Falefa to round out our stacks. Finding a pathway to get Judge and some of these bigger bats in our final lineups will feel like a struggle today, but there’s a path I can see and I honestly don’t see my exposure dipping below 50-75% in GPPs.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Austin Voth

I’m going to have at least one large-field GPP stack that begins with Dylan Cease/Nick Lodolo at SP and includes a full Reds five-man stack of Jonathan India ($5,500), Donovan Solano ($3,400), Joey Votto ($3,900), Nick Senzel ($2,800) and Jake Fraley ($2,000). That core gives us over $5K per slot for the remaining three slots at C, S and OF, and could forge a foundation that allows us to spike a top GPP finish with the right choices at C, SS and third OF.

Senzel in particular (shout-out to JIMMY in Discord for this tidbit) has been spanking the ball with exit velos regularly over 100MPH and just not getting the breaks he needs for a breakout game. That could change today, and we’ll be here for it.

Also consider:

Chicago White Sox vs. Adam Oller

Contrarian Stack: Seattle Mariners vs. Jake Odorizzi

Three-game late slate bonus bits:

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies Game Stack: It goes without saying that the Dodgers have left a bit to be desired with a couple of their hitting performances in this Coors Field stop, but a projected tam total over 6.5 runs is not something I plan on ignoring.

Just about every Dodgers hitter in the lineup today has an extensive history against German Marquez, who stands on the bump for the Rockies today. I’ll be mostly building (mixing and matching to se what fits, really) around the six bats of Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, Freddie Freeman, Jake Lamb, Max Muncy and Gavin Lux, but Cody Bellinger is in play too. Runback Rockies include C.J. Cron, Charlie Blackmon, Brendan Rodgers and Kris Bryant.

NOTE: This LAD-COL game is part of FanDuel’s main slate and will attract tons of ownership given their softer pricing.

I also love the San Diego Padres and the bats of Manny Machado, Jake Cronenworth, Luke Voit and Eric Hosmer today vs. Dylan Bundy, but they might even be a better play on FD, where you can play two first baseman. Jorge Alfaro and Jurickson Profar are solid options at their respective positions as well.
