MLB DFS Hitter Stacks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 7/17/2022

Published

on

Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

Our main 10-game identical slates on both DK and FD start at 1:35 PM EST. The weather in the ATL-WAS game is favorable for bats, but even there’s no line yet — it’s a game of interest in MLB DFS. The weather game we want to avoid entirely include the DET-CLE game in Cleveland, which could get postponed early. The Reds-Cardinals in St. Louis has a much better chance to play but still runs the risk of a delay.

And probably for the better, the PIT-COL game at Coors is not on the main slate.

We should once again peruse Adam’s Starting Rotation article as our first order of business to help decide on SPs.

Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!

MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 1:35 PM EST

Atlanta Braves vs. Erasmo Ramirez/Josh Rogers/WAS Bullpen

There’s no discernible line yet or projected totals as of 8:30 AM EST, but I’m already looking to stack up these Braves against possible opener Erasmo Ramirez and his 5.38 FIP. He’ll give way pretty quickly to a long reliever (or we might get a start out of Josh Rogers) and the rest of the bullpen, but Atlanta has a team wRC+ of 106 vs. RHP and 118 vs. LHP — good enough against either that we can stack comfortably without worrying too much about splits.

I’ll start my stacks out with the number nine hitter Michael Harris, and while I wish he was higher in the order, he’s still a solid GPP play because he’s so far down. I’m primarily getting exposure to Ronald Acuna, Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Dansby Swanson, Marcell Ozuna and William Contreras. The much-maligned Robinson Cano got his first extra base hit for the Braves yesterday, but even at $2,900 he’s a risk. I’ll include him in 1/4 of my Braves GPPs.

New York Yankees vs. Chris Sale

The Yankees are rarely called a sleeper stack, because they’re always going to get their fair share of ownership. Today, they are a little risky facing a proven arm like Chris Sale, who looked good in his return to the lineup vs. the Rays on Tuesday. But they’ve gotten to him before, Sale is still probably looking at a pitch count, and the Bronx Bombers are one of the only teams who can regularly put up double-digit runs in quick bursts of walks, homers and just a barrage of power slugging.

I love starting stacks off with D.J. LeMahieu, Aaron Judge and Josh Donaldson — all of whom have had plenty of success vs. Sale and are swinging relatively hot bats. LeMahieu and Donaldson have particularly appealing numbers against Sale: DJ is 6-for-9 with three HR and Donaldson is 5-for-17 with three HR, and looking to get into a nice stretch like he had a few games ago. If I can afford Giancarlo Stanton, I’ll plug him in too, but I’ll probably end up finding another semi-value piece as soon as the starting lineup is revealed.

Houston Astros vs. James Kaprelian

With no Yordan Alvarez (IL) and Jose Altuve possibly still a little dinged up, this is not the Astros lineup we’re used tom, but I’m looking squarely in the direction of Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Jeremy Pena and value pieces galore in J.J. Matijevic, Jake Meyers and Martin Maldonado.

Kaprelian’s ERA, FIP, xFIP and xERA are all north of 5.00, and he just doesn’t miss enough bats to be a threat to quell this Houston lineup — even if it’s at 80% of its normal productivity.

Value/Game Stack: Mariners at Rangers

My favorite plays on the Mariners include explosive rookie Julio Rodriguez, the suddenly hot Carlos Santana, Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez, J.P. Crawford and Ty France, and most of my game stacks will favor this side of the matchup.

However, after we lock in Corey Seager at SS for the Rangers (I’m still a little wary at playing Marcus Semien but he’s been a dynamic feast-or-famine GPP play), the prices on some of these guys get a little more affordable, so I’ll be getting exposure to red-hot Leody Taveras, leadoff value piece Josh Smith, Nate Lowe and Kole Calhoun. Adolis Garcia is a luxury (at $4,600) I might not be ale to afford, but Sam Huff is a cheap catcher option I prefer to projected SEA catcher Luis Torrens. Elier Hernandez is min salary on DK at $2K and makes a lot of sense for wraparound stacks.

Also consider:

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Jordan Lyles: We can look at just about any mix of Ji-Man Choi, Harold Ramirez, Yandy Diaz, Josh Lowe, Isaac Paredes, Francisco Mejia and Randy Arozarena, and we’re getting the return of Brandon Lowe (back) off the 60-day IL, so he’ll be viable options as well.

I'm a writer from upstate NY in a cool little Hudson River town called Coxsackie. Too many interests to list, but the films of David Lynch, the books of Kurt Vonnegut, the music of Jack White and the maddening sport of golf are near the top of my list. Big into DFS, specializing in baseball, football, golf and hoops. I've written for FFToday.com, RotoExperts and Baseball America, to name a few.
