MLB DFS Hitter Stacks (Aug. 17)

Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

Tonight we have a 9-game slate of MLB DFS to navigate through.  We have a couple of gas cans that can be attacked, but we also have a sneaky spot or 2.

Always make sure to read Adam’s Starting Rotation when setting your lineup.  It’s hands down the best pitching article in the MLB DFS business.

Let’s dig in and see if we can find some stacks to use today!

MLB DFS Stacks – Main

Texas Rangers vs. Adam Oller

There’s probably no greater disappointment in MLB this year than the Texas Rangers.  They spent a massive amount of money this offseason on free agents only to be 12 games under .500 through mid-August.  So much of a disappointment that they got their manager fired this week.  With that being said, they have a phenomenal matchup tonight vs. Adam Oller.  Oller’s rookie season has been a disaster, more so than the Rangers’ season.

Through 14 appearances, he’s sporting an ERA over 7 and an xFIP over 6.  Oller’s biggest struggles have been keeping the ball on the ground.  Over the last month, Oller has given up a nearly 59% flyball rate.  Couple that with a nearly 34% hard-hit rate, and you have someone that is getting lit up in the worst way.  Although he’s been pretty bad to both sides of the plate, he’s been especially bad to lefties.  Lefties have a slugging % over .630 and a wOBA of .440.

Core:  The core to my Texas stack tonight will be Corey SeagerAdolis Garcia, and Nate Lowe.  All three guys have extremely solid numbers vs. righties and will more than likely hit 2,3,4 tonight.  Over the last month Seager has a .417 wOBA vs. righties.  He’s gone hitless in his last 2 games, but overall has had a solid week with 7 hits and 6 runs scored.

I love using Adolis Garcia against righties.  He’s been the epitome of a reverse splits hitter and this is an excellent matchup for him.  Oller is giving up a slugging % well over .500 to righties and that plays right into Garcia’s strengths.  Against righties this season, Garcia has a nearly .800 OPS and a .270 AVG.  Both are significantly higher than against lefties.  With Lowe, he’s been arguably their best hitter of late.  Over his last 26 AB, he has 11 hits and a .983 OPS.  At just $3k on DK, he’s going to be a solid value in a great spot.

Secondary Pieces:  Marcus Semien just missed being a core piece for me tonight.  He’s also in a solid spot tonight.  14 of his 18 homers this season have been against righties and with how much power Oller gives up to righties, he should do well.  At just $4.3k he’s someone that has a ton of upside for his price.

Value: The back half of this Rangers lineup is filled with value.  Meibrys ViloriaLeody TaverasBrad MillerBubba Thompson, and Josh Smith are all $2.6k or less on DK.  Are they all GPP winners waiting to happen?  Not even close, but they are in a lineup that as it stands has the highest implied run total on the board tonight.  They all make for fine punts.  Going with Josh Smith in the 9-hole allows you to do a wrap-around stack.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Eric Lauer

This is going to be a tough assignment for Eric Lauer tonight.  The Dodgers are one of the top teams in the league vs. lefties and he’s not exactly coming into this one in great form.  Over the last 30 days, Lauer has seen his K rate drop from a season-long 23.5% to just 16.7%.  Lauer’s splits are really going to play well tonight for the Dodgers.

He gives up way more power to righties, with a 440 slugging % vs. them to just .355 against lefties.  The lineup he’s expected to face tonight will have 8 righties.  Of the 22 homers he’s given up this season, 20 have been to righties.  This has the potential to be an absolute nightmare for the Brewers lefty.

Core:  My core with the Dodgers tonight will be Mookie BettsTrea Turner, and Will Smith. These 3 have been the best Dodgers hitters vs. lefties this season.  There’s really not much that needs to be said about both Betts and Turner.  Both Guys have wOBA’s over .500 against lefties over the last month and have shown a ton of power.  Betts has a .462 ISO vs. them over the last month while Turner has an insane .652.

Smith has quietly had a very solid season against lefties.  His OPS is over .900, thanks to an OBP of .404 vs. them and a slugging % of .500.  All 3 are extremely expensive tonight, but there will be enough value between the Giants and Rangers to squeeze them in.

Secondary Pieces:  Other pieces I really like here tonight will be Freddie Freeman and Justin Turner.  Freeman has a long career of being very good against lefties.  Over the last month, he has a .409 wOBA vs. them.  Even though Lauer is better against lefties, if this stack goes off we can’t expect him to go more than 2 turns through the order.  Justin Turner has also been good against lefties over the last month, with a .346 wOBA.  At $4.3k, he’s very affordable tonight.

Value:  There will be some decent value at the back of this order tonight.  Hanser AlbertoTrayce Thompson, and Austin Barnes are all priced between $2.5k and $3.1k on DK.  They’ll get you an affordable way into this potent stack tonight.

San Francisco Giants vs. Zach Davies

The Giants are going to bring the late-night hammer vs. Zach Davies tonight.  Zach Davies is an average pitcher at best.  He does nothing horribly, but he also does nothing overly well.  What he does do is give up a ton of contact.  Over the last month, Davies has a 91% contact rate.  Against a solid Giants team, that’s going to make for a tough evening.

While Davies is mostly a groundball pitcher, he is someone that we can somewhat chase homers against.  In his last 12 innings of work, he’s given up 3 homers.  His HR/FB ratio is a massive 25% over the last month.  That is by the highest mark of any pitch going today.  With Davies, I’m not going to be overly concerned with splits.  He gives up slightly more power to righties, but a higher average vs. lefties.

Core/Value:  With the projected lineup for the Giants tonight, no player is priced above $4.3k  and only 2 are actually priced over $4k tonight.  There will be a ton of value to play with here.  The guys I love the most in this lineup tonight will be LaMonte WadeJoc PedersonWilmer Flores, and Mike Yastrzemski.  Over the last month, Wade has been absolutely crushing righties.  He has a .563 ISO and a .483 wOBA.  He’s also dirt cheap tonight at just $2.5k on DK.  While he will more than likely hit ninth tonight, his price tag makes up for the potential of 1 less AB than the rest of the bunch.

Wilmer Flores is another guy that has been having a solid month vs. righties.  Over the last 30 days, Flores has a .348 wOBA and a .205 ISO vs. them.  He’s normally been known for his prowess vs. lefties, but he’s also been good vs. righties.  I’m going to lump both Yas and Pederson together.  Both guys are flyball hitters facing a GB pitcher.  Should they get the ball in the air vs. Davies, there’s a good chance one of the homers tonight.  My bet would be Pederson.

MLB DFS Summary

Other MLB DFS stacks I like tonight will be the Guardians vs. Daniel Norris, Rays vs. Domingo German, and Pirates vs. Rich Hill.  The Pirates are in a sneaky spot vs. an aging pitcher.  They’ll also have some nice value in their lineup.  Red Sox vs. Roansy Contreras is also a team that should put up some runs.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green.
