I want to start off this article by saying you must have the absolute nuts to win the top prize up top on large field GPPs. There is no room for mistakes with so many entries in these contests. If you think you are going to win it all by playing a combo of the top seven guys in the player pool, you are not. If a combo of a bunch of guys you have heard of before is indeed the best scoring lineup, you will most likely tie for first. If that sounds good to you, then go for it. It will be profitable if you nail it, but for me, I like to be a little different on these slates. I will be making multiple teams and taking long shots on a few cheap guys.
Leaving cash on the table in these NFL DFS contests is fine too. This makes your lineup even more unique and lower owned because a lot of amateurs will be pulling their hair out to use their entire salary.
That all being said, I have looked at every possible player that can get on the field and listed my picks below.
The NFL DFS Week 12 Thursday Night Showdown Picks
NFL DFS MVP: Deshaun Watson ($16,000 FD)
He is a dual-threat QB with multiple touchdown upside through the air and on the ground. MVP is close today, but I am locking in Watson as my top guy.
MVP Pivot: Jacoby Brissett ($15,000 FD)
He has an easier defense to pass against, however not as much rush upside.
MVP Pivot 2: DeAndre Hopkins ($14.500 FD)
Elite WR in a primetime spot. He should get double-digit targets and has two touchdown upside, especially if Houston somehow finds themselves playing from behind. If you have him as your MVP you better have Watson as a flex.
MVP Pivot 3: TY Hilton ($11,500 FD) HE IS PLAYING
He owns the Texans. If he is playing, he is healthy and is Jacoby Brissett’s top target. If he is your MVP you want Brissett as a flex.
Note: I think you are going to want multiple teams today. Taking one of these down with a single bullet is very difficult. If you are having a hard time deciding who to make MVP but love your build just make another team and switch the MVPs.
Honorable Mention: I have to mention my boy Will Fuller. If he is healthy you better believe I am going to have some MVP shares.
Flex Options:
Listed in order of preference, with price factored in.
- Nyheim Hines ($10,000 FD) I like him better on DK. Houston gives up the most receptions to pass-catching backs.
- Jonathan Williams ($12,500 FD) It feels weird to pay this much for a back that is splitting touches with two other guys (Hines and Wilkins), however, he is the “starter” tonight and will have the opportunity.
- Will Fuller ($8,000 FD) He is playing. Love Fuller
- Carlos Hyde ($13,000 FD) He has been pretty steady all season. Needs to get in the end zone to pay off. I have some concern over Watson stealing one of his touchdowns in the RedZone.
- Darren Fells ($7,500 FD) The starting TE is too cheap. He has three touchdowns the past three games.
- Duke Johnson ($10,500 FD) Houston pass-catching back, I don’t think I want him and Hyde on the same team.
- Zach Pascal ($9,000 FD) Bump him way up if TY Hilton is out.
- Kenny Stills ($8,500 FD) He is the clear WR 2 if Fuller (my boy) is out. We have to watch the news. I will update closer to lock when we have more information.
- Jack Doyle ($8,500 FD)I like him a lot more if Ebron is out and/or if TY Hilton is out. UPDATE: Ebron in
- Eric Ebron ($8,000 FD) Update: Prefer Ebron over Doyle
- Jordan Wilkins ($6,500 FD) Seems too cheap. He has unimpressive game logs but is just as likely to get a RedZone rush attempt as Williams in my opinion. He will get a usage bump with Marlon Mack ruled out.
- Adam Vinatieri ($9,000 FD) Hall of Fame kicker but it looks like his legendary career will be coming to an end very soon. I am not ready to count him out yet. I like that he is kicking in a dome.
- Kyle Fairbairn ($9,500 FD) Houston kicker

Punts Listed in order
- Keke Coutee ($7,500 FD) If Fuller is out I like him a lot if Fuller is in, I have little to no interest.
- Marcus Johnson ($8,500 FD) Priced too high for my liking, which makes him a punt
- Chester Rodgers ($7,000 FD) Punt Colts WR. Helps somewhat that Paris Campbell is out
- Jordan Akins ($6,000 FD) YOLO Texans TE punt
