Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel. 

Once again, we have a large afternoon slate that serves as the featured slot for the largest MLB DFS contests, and once again, the only thing different between the DraftKings and FanDuel player pool is FD’s addition of the Coors Field game to the end of DK’s eight-game 1:35 PM EST slate. MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 1:35 PM EST

Minnesota Twins vs. Kohei Arihara

Arihara, who got knocked around pretty bad in 2021 and was never a guy we looked to for a long outing, has just once start in 2022, and he’s the most obvious place to attack in today’s slate. The 30-year-old former Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighter has a 6.41 ERA in 11 career starts, including a feeble 5.83 K/9 rate and a FIP that comes in hot (like a gas can) at 6.60. Arihara’s only true credit is that he throws six different pitches, the best being a plus splitter that he worked in more during his lone 2022 MLB appearance.

The Twins offense looked a little punchless yesterday facing Glen Otto and the Rangers bullpen, but we can realistically expect a bounce-back game today at Target Field. The first four Twins in the projected lineup (Luis Arraez, Jorge Polance, Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton) offer the most firepower and cost a bit more, but the next four (Jose Miranda, Max Kepler, Nick Gordon and Jake Cave) gradually cost less and you advance down the order and provide a nice combo of high GPP upside and salary relief. I’m going back to the well on Gordon and want him in at least half of my Twins stacks, and Buxton/Arraez are the two best among the studs against the splitter.

Game Stack: New York Mets (Jose Butto) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (Kyle Gibson)

If there’s a game to stack on the 1:35 PM slate, it’s Mets-Phillies, with the Mets side offering more GPP upside but the Phillies giving us possibly a safer slew of hitters. Mets starter Jose Butto will be making his MLB debut today against one of the more potent offenses in baseball, and Kyle Gibson is well-known by these Mets hitters to the point where some of them have extensive track records of success against him.

Since Butto only has two starts above Double-A, we can feel safer attacking him because he hasn’t faced hitters like Kyle Schwarber, Rhys Hoskins, J.T. Realmuto and Nick Castellanos before. He’s got a fastball that lacks movement and his best pitch is probably a relatively weak changeup that he may be scared to throw. I’m, also considering Bryson Stott and the tail end of the Phillies lineup with Matt Vierling and Bradley Zimmer for value.

The Mets top options include Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Daniel Vogelbach, with Michael Perez standing out as a super cheap option (DK minimum $2K) at C.

GPP: Tampa Bay Rays vs. Zack Greinke

I’m not overly excited about stacking the Rays in GPP, but Zack Greinke still carries a sense of solidity that’s likely to keep the masses from flocking to them. Greinke has had a tough time getting strikeouts this season (5.33 K/9), and one of the Rays’ biggest issues is a high K rate against RHP (>24%).

If the veteran can’t put them away, he’s going to have a difficult time keeping them off the basepaths and scoring runs. My top options for Tampa include Yandy Diaz, David Peralta, Randy Arozarena and Brandon Lowe. Harold Ramirez, Taylor Walls (just $2,400) and Ji-Man Choi are also in play, but I prefer the 1-4 hitters.

Coors Field Stack (FanDuel only)

Last night we got another 4-3 game without any fireworks, so this is our last chance at making something fun happen in the rare air of Colorado.

With the Rockies rolling out lefty Kyle Freeland, it’s an opportunity to play that righty-heavy Giants lineup with all the fun GPP value, including leadoff man Austin Slater, the notorious southpaw-slamming Wilmer Flores, J.D. Davis, Evan Longoria, Thairo Esrada and catcher Austin Wynns.

On the Rockies side, we should be getting most of our exposure to the 2-7 hitters, including Charlie Blackmon, Brendan Rodgers, C.J. Cron, Ryan McMahon, Randal Grichuk and surprise masher Elehuris Montero, who’s still way too cheap.

Also consider for hitting stacks:

Sneaky GPP Stack – Atlanta Braves vs. Jose Urquidy (HOU): The usual suspects are fine, but I’m particularly interested in Travis d’Arnaud, Matt Olson, Austin Riley and Michael Harris. On DK, you can add in your favorite among Ronald Acuna, Dansby Swanson or Eddie Rosario for the full five-man stack.

GPP Value Stack – Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Mike Minor (CIN): The Reds are in play as well, but I agree with Adam Strangis that Bryan Reynolds and Michael Chavis are where we should be concentrating most of our Pirates ownership. Kevin Newman and Greg Allen make for the best secondary PIT options if you want to stack ’em up higher.
